[slight shadowbringers / lv 80 summoner job spoilers]
So I was having a very normal amount of thoughts regarding the summoner class the other day. Mostly how as your character learns the job with Y'mhitra they are taught to summon specific primals outlined in ancient teachings; but the moment your WOL is given the chance to create a summon on their own, they come up with Phoenix. assuming your WOL went through the coils storyline and has any connection to 1.0 stuff, that's a really personal choice for them to make!
Though the lack of fanfare when you receive that skill does make it feel like you get the summon to call back to the widespread accounts of Phoenix sightings at the Battle of Carteneau. I feel like that might be more of a product of how there's no longer job quests when you hit ShB. Though I enjoyed the stormblood follow up content for that lv 80 quest, I wish they had made it about how the WOL created demi-phoenix...
Anyways, it got me thinking about how instead of ifrit, titan, and garuda, summoner WOLs could instead use egi's that they have a more personal connection with. Of course this means I started thinking about what Arsay's egi's would be. Which also means of course I had to sketch them out. These are super quick designs obviously and I haven't gone through the effort of a proper design cycle so bare that in mind lol. Content under the cut!
Ruby summon: Egi-Ifrit -> Sapphire summon: Egi-Leviathan
The first primal Arsay ever saw, though that memory has been lost to time in the aether stream. It was his appearance in the Rhontano sea that prompted the meeting between a new adventurer and a scion of great import to her. Even if their minds have forgotten such events, the summoner's aether has not. Aetherial element: Water
Tumblr media
Topaz summon: Egi-Titan -> Pearl summon: Egi-Bismark
Despite the beast itself creating yet another roadblock in her adventures, Arsay can't help but be reminded of more immediate and positive associations. Her favourite eatery in Limsa of whom he is the name sake, the always perfectly timed arrival and rescue of her friend Cid, and of course the gentle reflection who provided aid in their time of need. Aetherial Element: Wind
Tumblr media
Emerald summon: Egi-Garuda -> Fluorite summon: Fluorite Carbuncle
Though the power of a third primal might be tempting to most, Arsay knows a carbuncle can be as powerful as the summoner wills it to be. Plus it's much cuter! Using a crystal she gathered around Revenant's Toll as a focus, she called forth from the aether her own form of carbuncle Aetherial Element: Lightning
Tumblr media
Obviously by lv 90 you swap your egi's for the real deal so instead her carbuncle would get super charged ✌️
Again I thought way too hard about this (as per usual). I wanted to have the elements line up with what you have access to as Ninja. Since that's her main job it would make sense that her aether would be more likely to lean towards those elements. Phoenix covers fire, so unfortunately the only one missing would be ice. There's more wind-coded abilities than ice, so I went with that. Which is for the best because it lines up with the aether elemental chart flow! Water goes to wind goes to lightning.
Idk if all these ideas line up exactly with the ffxiv summoner lore - I've been doing the best I can to absorb all the info I get from the job quests but very possible I missed something along the way lol
Tumblr media
Have a gpose for making it to the end o/

Handed Down From Stone
Chapter 1: Etched in Emerald
Characters: Y'rhul Nuhn, Y'zel Tia, Y'mhitra Rhul, U'noloh Tia, Ruby Carbuncle/Ifrit Egi
Rating: T for Tia
Notes: None
Tumblr media
- Old Sharlayan, 1560 -
Y’rhul sighed as he checked his watch then consulted his day planner. Office hours were ending, which meant he’d be fulfilling his duties as Nuhn soon before heading off to a meeting of the Forum and after dinner with the clan before many returned to Dravania. The only thing to look forward to being the peace that would come after, tucked into his bed with a good book. While as a Forum member, he’d never truly be free of the endless days of policy and the attempted filibustering against it, a chunk of the family voluntarily displaced meant fewer familial obligations to eat up his scholarly time.
Not that he didn’t love them; however, his energy was better spent filling his daughter’s minds with knowledge than their mothers with life. He took no pleasure in it. The Scholar was his only true love. Yet proving time and time again he was the most sage of the Jaguar tribe, he was left with the burden of maintaining their line. At least the title of Nuhn didn’t come with leadership. The womenfolk made their own schedule for him, and he abided. Perhaps if his brother Y’lem wasn’t so hung up on a return to the old ways like their Drake and Marmot peers, they’d take to him. It’d help if he wasn’t so obstinate and unlikeable too.
Y’rhul rested his elbow on his table then rapped his fist against his chin as he plucked a pink hair off his desk and raised a brow. One good thing did come out of his little brother, he supposed. His time in Dravania he found someone to bond and love, and together they brought his nephew Y’zel into the world. The boy was curious and warm-hearted and loved to have books read to him. He did feel bad for the boy, his father pushing his own desires onto him, filling his head with nonsense of a time long past. Then that of often being made the plaything of his daughters. Still, Y’zel was bright and if he had the sense to ignore his own father, he very well could grow up to be Nuhn if that’s what the tribe wanted, though something told him that if that time came, it would be out of performing his duty rather than the desire to. He’d need that…and to become a bit less predictable.
Standing, he rolled his eyes. “Well, I’ve finished my work. I guess I’ll get my robes and head out,” he announced before side-stepping out from behind his desk.
With a turn, the Nuhn held out his arms and watched as a pink-haired Miqo’te sprung from the shelf above, toy sword in one hand and shield in the other, “PREPARE YOURSELF UNCLE RHUL!”
The man caught the boy under his arms, giving him a swing as the before giving him a playful dangle in the air. “Prepare for what now? What were you going to do,” he asked, wiggling his thumbs under the boy’s arms.
Y’zel began to squirm about and giggle, soon loosing the sword and shield from his grasp before being plopped down onto his feet. “My attack…but I guess it didn’t work...I’m never going to be a Nuhn…,” the boy whimpered, ears and tail drooping.
Y’rhul shook his head then took a knee, petting over the boy’s ears. “Do you see me pouncing on people unawares?”
          “No…”
“Then why do you think a Nuhn does that?”
“Well, cause…cause father says that if I beat the Nuhn in combat…then I’ll be the Nuhn. He’s read me many tales of other tribes and their great feats of combat and how they got to lead their entire village!”
Y’rhul wanted very much to pinch the bridge of his nose and sigh; however, he swallowed the impulse to not show the boy his irritation with his father. “Maybe for some other tribes…and maybe for ours a long time ago; however, now us Jaguars are chosen for what’s in here by the women of our tribe.,” he explained to the boy, poking him in the forehead, “Mind you, we live in a diverse city, not a village. We’re subject to the laws of the Forum. Not all Nuhns are leaders either, or the other way around. Your father sits with me as well does he not?”
Y’zel looked up to his uncle and nodded before taking his hand as the man led him out of the office. “I’ve told that to father before…but he says the old ways can come back.”
“And what is wrong with the way things are now?”
The Nuhn smiled, watching Y’zel’s ears perk up then lower slowly as his mind was left to turn over what he said. Chuckling, he picked up a parcel then put it in the boy’s arms, “Here. I got you a few more books for your collection. Y’mhitra said that you were interested in the arcane arts?”
The boy hugged the books as he looked up to his uncle, giving a little nod. “Yeah. I want to summon friends!”
“Well, there’s a book in there straight from Limsa Lominsa that will teach you how to do just that on top there. Why don’t you go out and practice some and show me what you can do at dinner?”
Y’zel nodded eagerly then hurried out of the man’s office and onto the stoop outside, sitting on the marble steps and immediately cracked into the book. Passing, Y’rhul stroked over his ears, “And don’t worry about your father. I will tell him you tried.”
- Southern Thanalan, After the Dragonsong War-
            “Ifrit! To me!”
Y’zel watched as the Egi floated over to him then circled about. Etching in his tome for a moment before casting his magicks, warping the creature into a ruby carbuncle. “There, that’s a bit better now, isn’t it?”
The creature stirred then went to nibble at the laces at his shoes for a moment while he looked to Y’mhitra as she clapped her hands together, “Great job cousin!”
The Tia nodded then closed his book before squatting down to stroke his carbuncle’s ears. “Thank you. I’ve been out of practice. A lot of my time in Ishgard was focused on swordplay. I was scared I wouldn’t be able to summon anything at all,” he sighed, looking at the peridot stone in his palm.
Y’mhitra smiled then gestured to their dark-haired guide ahead of them as he scanned the desert. “Perhaps you had sufficient inspiration to perform and show off? Our U tribe friend here seems to have kept you in high spirits.”
Y’zel flushed deeply as he picked up his carbuncle. “Still your tongue. U’noloh is high-spirited himself and I feel obligated to match is energy in turn.”
“Hm. Do you? And if his energy were to…let’s say, become romantic. Would you feel obligated to match that?”
The Tia balked then shouldered into his cousin playfully, toppling them both over into the sand and down the dune. The cousins laughed in turn as the egi squirmed free of its master’s arms. Y’mhitra sat up. “To think that I used to dress us up and make Shtola officiate our pretend “marriages”. Now we’re grown and have found we’d both prefer a strong strapping young man to sweep us off our feet and carry us down to the ivory halls.”
“Mhitra! He’ll hear you,” Y’zel shushed before finding the sun blocked out by the U tribe Tia.
“Had a spill did we,” the man asked, reaching down to help both to their feet, “Careful not to mess around too much. You could end up sliding right into the jaws of a sandworm or the sands could shift, and you’ll be buried.”
Y’zel went pale while U’noloh and Y’mhitra started to laugh.
“He teases us cousin,” Y’mhitra laughed while using her tail to brush off the sand on her back.
“Mostly. Never can be too sure about the sands, but it’s nothing I can’t fish or carve you out of,” the other Tia assured them.
As Y’zel too brushed the sands from his back, finding U’noloh’s tail tangling with his own to help him brush it away. Cheeks remaining flushed, he looked away, feigning innocence as Y’mhitra smiled.
“You know. On our little pilgrimage, we will need a sturdy sword to see us through the jungles of La Noseca and the woods of Gridania. My cousin and I wouldn’t mind the extra protection if you’re free.”
U’noloh crossed his arms then shrugged. “I’m a sellsword. I go where the gil is. This just happened to be my stomping grounds, so I took it to be far less work than anything else Momodi had for me.
            “Y’mhitra…I am capable of wielding a sword…”
“I know, but after that incident with the Alpaku you just haven’t been the same,” his cousin sighed while shaking her head.
Both Y’zel and U’noloh’s ears twitched as they tilted their heads. “Right…the Alpaku incident…,” the pink-haired Tia responded.
“Same rate? I’m game. Nothing’s keeping me here after all other than petty squabbling over titles and bad memories,” U’noloh shrugged before tugging Y’zel’s tail then slipping it free.
“Perfect. Let’s return to Ul’Dah and find ourselves a way to Vesper Bay. Perhaps grab a bite in the Quicksand…and in the matter of staying over, Y’zel will now how have an excuse to sleep in another room. I fear that I am quite restless and kick when we share a bed. You boys can cuddle up together and I’ll be the problem for my pillows.”
Y’zel looked to his ruby carbuncle, wishing that it would Ruby Ruin him right then in there. U’noloh shrugged then put his arm around them both their waists as he guided them safely down to the bottom of the ruin. “I don’t care about bedding. I’ve spent plenty of days taking naps buck-naked out on a rock with my Amalj’aa buddies…though they say I snore. Will that be a problem,” he asked.
The Keeper-eyed Seeker’s head swam, mental images crossing his mind. “Let’s leave some things to our imaginations. I fear my cousin, while having an eventful life, might be a little sheltered given his rearing in Ishgard. You might shock the poor dear with your stories so tread lightly.”
U’noloh raised a brow as he looked at the flustered of the more flustered of them. “A Tia prude? That’s a new one.”
“I-I am not,” Y’zel protested, while the two laughed before channeling their aether and moving on to Ul’dah ahead of him.
Left alone, the Tia turned to his carbuncle who looked back to him in turn, tails swaying about before taking another look at the green soul stone in his hand then back to it. “She’s very determined to play matchmaker, isn’t she? I wonder if she harasses Shtola so?”
The aetheric pet just chittered, unable to really offer an opinion one way or another leaving Y’zel to cross his arms. “He is rather handsome though…and affectionate. Not what I expected a sellsword to be like. I wonder what father would think…” he trailed before finding the ruby carbuncle jumping up into his arms to lick his nose.
“You’re right. I should dwell on that. Let’s away! There’s two more friends for us to find and I’m sure Y’mhitra will think I’ve flowed away to escape her relentless teasing…”

//as an arcanist turned summoner, mikha'a has his collection of familiars. outside of battle, he prefers to have them all summoned at once. as the egi are glamoured into carbuncles, it can be hard to tell which of his pets are simple carbuncles or secretly made of fire.

How to currently SMN:
As SMN you have your Carbuncle whose only job is to either give you a shield or later do a party wide buff. Every time you die you gotta resummon Carbuncle. It doesn’t fight for you anymore. It stands there, looks pretty, and is probably scrolling on instagram while you’re being swarmed by opo-opos.
Step 1. Use Aethercharge which will become Dreadwyrm Trance later on. Then either Ruin/Outburst until its done. Step 1a. When its Dreadwyrm Trance use Astral Impulse/Flare to your hearts content until it runs out. Also with Bahamut on the field, Deathflare and Akh Morn can be weaved into the attacks during the Trance’s duration. But they both have such long Cool Downs they might as well each be one use per trance.
Step 2. Your Charge/Trance is done. Despite what they said during the Letter to the Producer. You can actually use the Ruby, Topez, or Emerald Jewel in whatever order. You use this by summoning your Ruby/Topez/Emeral Carbuncle later your Ifrit/Titan/Garuda-Egi and then at level 90, the actual damn thing.
Step 2a. Using Ruby grants you two “long” cast time spells in place of Gemshine and Precious Brilliance. Topez grants you 4 instant spell casts with a short CD and Emerald grants you 4 instant spell cast and near instant CD. Initially all these spells seem to be single target save for Emerald’s phase. At which point its aoe. But eventually, it all becomes the same AoE spell and from what I can tell, it all collectively does the same damage over the same amount of time. You can start with Ruby for any calm phases, use Topez if you need to keep up keep while minimally moving, or weave Emerald if you need to move around a lot.
Step 2b. You will, however, have to use all these up. Because waiting for Aethercharge or Trance to CD while you need Emerald or Topez at the time is just not good upkeep.
Additionally around level 86 your Enkindle will become spells for each phase instead of just being grayed out until you summon Bahamut.
For Ruby: Enkindle grants you a charge attack which does AoE Damage and an extra attack that lets you just melee aoe again. Which like Topez’s attacks use an instant cast and a short CD.
For Topez: Enkindle grants your Topaz Catastrophe a combo aoe move Mountain Buster. Which is instant cast and instant use and will only change once you’ve cast Topaz Catastrophe. So its kind of just Topaz Cat. > Mountain Buster, four times.
For Emerald: Your Enkindle becomes the staple of old Garuda-Egi for a long cast time you can summon a patch of AoE damage that also acts as a DoT if the enemies remain in your area.
Step 2c.: At 90 when you’re able to summon Ifrit, Titan and Garuda they’ll do an AoE attack before fucking off at your general target location. That’s it.
Step 3. At level 80, after your trance has finished and after a long cool down. It’ll become Summon Phoenix. Doing so will grant a party wide, decent length, Heal over Time to all allies within a certain range. You’ll also gain Rekindle which will grant you a decent heal for yourself or one of your party members but can only be used for the duration of Phoenix’s remaining. Naturally your Gem Shine and Precious Brilliance will turn into the Single Target Fountain of Fire and the AoE Brand of Purgatory. Brand no longer combos with Fountain. Naturally like Bahamut you also get Phoenix’s one use Doom Orbital Strike AoE, Revelation.
Naturally, much like Trance, after its done and while you’re waiting for Trance to come off CD, another round of Jewels will be available for you to follow through with.
Step 4. Energy Drain/Energy Siphon still lets you use the Single Target “Fester” and the AoE Painflare. Painflare no longer has any weird aoe effect, it just hits everything around it.
Step 5. I couldn’t exactly pin down if it was because I used a gem or because the gem got done expiring but at random intervals Ruin IV will just become available to use once a certain amount of time.
Step 6. Physick is still kind of shit at higher levels don’t bother, let the Healers do their work. Put swift cast next to Rez cause the trials are unforgiving.
Step 7. When Trance/Charge/Phoenix is on CD and you got no gems use Ruin and Outburst.
Thats it...that’s Summoner.

Name/Title: Forsaken Shard
Battle Music: Alluring Secret Black Vow (Instrumental)
Appearance: Phase 1: Phoenix Stance, she still holds her form however she has a buff called “Flame Skin”, she’s always protected by fire. It’s just boosted defense. Stage is very similar to Ifrit’s.
Tumblr media
Phase 2: Bahamut Stance (Changes at 50% Health) - “Flame Skin” disappears. New buff “Akh Mourn” is boosted strength. Lilith looks more like her WoL form than she did in her Phoenix stance. She has faint aetheric wings, much similar to Bahaumut’s. Bahamut is summoned in the background, however she’s channeling the summons power through her own attacks.
Tumblr media
Final Phase: Persephone (Changes at 20% Health) - “Akh Mourn” disappears. No more buffs. Stage change to Amaurot. Music change to Mortal Instants.
Tumblr media
Start of Battle Quote: “...You summon me for my aide, and now you forsake me?”
Tank Buster moveset name: Light Flare (basically just Bahamut’s Death Flare), she calls out the name of the move
DPS Check, moveset name or quote said when casting: Summon Egi, “please, come aid me, my children” -- she summons an Emerald, Topaz, and Ruby carbuncle. If they’re not defeated in time, it’s an insta-kill move called “Everlasting Flight” where everything on the field turns to ash.
First Phase Change: “This is the true power of those chosen by Hydaelyn!”
Second Phase Change: “That’s right... I was... I am...”
Party losing to Primal WoL quote: “Just like all my foes before, you too, have fallen.”
Primal WoL losing Quote: “... Hades... Hythlo... I remember...”
Feel free to add whatever else you can think of!

Z’hali Nunh
Name | Z'Hali Nuhn Race | Miqo'te, Seeker of the Sun Age | 29(ARR) Birthday | 13th Sun of the Third Astral Moon Gender | Male (Stealth Trans)
Guardian | Azeyma; the Warden
Main | Scholar
Appearance | Z'Hali is a tall, broad Miqo'te with toned muscles. He’s on the larger end of size for the race. His tail is long and fluffy, as are his ears,. His skin is a medium brown, dusted with freckles and marred with the occasional scarring from his life before becoming an adventurer. His hair, and fur, is a soft pink that darkens through the tips. His hair reaches his mid back and falls in waves - though, more often than not he wears his hair in braids. He has heterochromia, resulting in one pink and one blue eye. They’re both quite vivid.
Personality | Z'Hali is a happy, gentle man. Though very quiet, he is very warm and kind to those around him. He endeavours to help the world where he can. He can be described as placid, as he is far more a follower than a leader and tends to go along with the decisions of those around him. He finds it easier to rely on other’s to make these choices and occasionally will look to those closest to him for guidance in making his own choices. He rarely says no to any request, but this isn’t out of meekness but because he often sees no reason to deny them. He struggles to completely fathom what it is to be the Warrior of Light and so has not lost touch with common people. He treats most as equals, and with warmth. He also has a competitive streak and is somewhat mischievous.
Bio | Z'Hali was born in Thanalan, though refuses to give more details than that. He prefers not to speak about his past; but when he speaks of it, the story he tells is one of death and bloodshed. A young Nunh, away from his tribe only briefly, returns to find them slaughtered by the Amalj'aa. He tries to fight but is overpowered; though not killed. He loses everything. [This story is fabricated, and after Lyse reveals her true identity, Z'Hali is able to reveal his own to the Scions. Outside of those he trusts, he continues to use this story as his backstory.]
A healer happens upon him, the only survivor of the attack, and takes him under her wing. She healed his wounds and he stayed with her for a few years; as the attack had damaged him mentally and he had lost the ability to speak. She taught him sign and helped him recover mentally, enough that he may be able to rejoin the world. And so he left for Limsa Lominsa to become an adventurer.
He joins the Arcanist’s guild and after mastering the art, decides to become a Scholar to help those like he had been helped. He seeks to do good as a healer. He did not intend to be swept up in everything and become the Warrior of Light.
Notes | - Z'Hali is selectively mute and communicates mostly through sign - I prefer to assume an inclusive fantasy where sign is a lot more well known. - Outside of combat and when resting, Z'Hali often has all of his pets present. These are; Eos and Selene - his faeries, his Emerald and Topaz Carbuncles, and his three Egis in the guise of Carbuncles (Ruby Carbuncle Ifrit, Topaz Carbuncle Titan and Emerald Carbuncle Garuda) - Z'Hali is technically homeless and has been since getting to Limsa; but he makes do and sleeps wherever he’s welcome.

Post ARR Bonus Journal 1: Reunion.
I returned to the Arcanist guild after my injuries were mostly healed. The reason for my visit was mostly just because I was visiting people that helped me out along the way. Of course, I was accompanied by my dearest. Who gave a thorough verbal lashing for what happened in the Praetorium. A verbal lashing followed by me apologizing profusely and holding her as close as I could despite my wounds. I was eventually forgiven and the first thing we did was go on a date to Limsa Lominsa so...half explaining why I'm here.
I visited with the Guild Master and told her how I became incapable of summoning any of the egi's. Like in that purging light of Lux I lost the image I used to conjure Ifrit, Garuda, or Titan. I also showed her the aftermath of my Grimoire and she was stunned. Apparently, I spiritbound my Grimoire so hard that it was partially crystalized into a piece of Materia shaped like a book.
It certainly explained why I couldn't open the thing or why I couldn't cast any magic for that matter, she handed me a new Grimoire and I was able to cast something. I still couldn't summon the image of the Egi's. So she suggested that instead of how I used to imagine them, that I should picture them as Carbuncles. It seemed like a strange idea but I conceded and did it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was shocked and stunned as it worked. I could still summon. So I now have Ruby, Topaz, and Emerald who now have the same abilities as the three egi's prior. I also took the chance to introduce my love to my Carbuncles however right after she had to head to work. Something I should get on as we speak.
-Eternal Shadows

-Onward to adventure!

so thanks to @dragons-bones I’m finally actually writing up my ACN and SMN’s character lore bullshit (because they’re the only characters of mine who regularly do more than what comes with the basic job description and/or interact with the job lore*) ENJOY UR TEXT WALLS
Ritanelle “Soleil,” summoner
did start out as an arcanist, but quickly found herself dissatisfied with the scope of her powers. sure, Bio and Miasma and Virus are cool, but where’s the raw destructive power? she should have stayed at the thaumaturge’s guild and lived off stale bread
and then she joined the Scions
turns out the Echo has some uses beyond giving her nauseous migraines
her egis are pretty standard in terms of their toolkit, but she’s really leaned into the “primal” part; instead of relying on raw equations coded into her carbuncle summoning arrays, she’s bolstered their power (and personalities) with incantations in their devotees’ tongues (Enkindle, yo)
this involved becoming semi-fluent in those tongues, mostly from the beast tribe daily questgivers (she is a Sister of Ash and adores her pet drake)
despite her affinity for earth-aspected aether, titan was the hardest egi for her to enkindle because Kobold is a tonal language and she kept hecking it up
did u know garuda has dance steps? no? now u do. good thing rita enjoys dancing
her actual favorite part of tinkering with her egi arrays isn’t with their gemstones or their rune circles, it’s their appearances
you know how Ifrit is compared to a demon? That’s exactly what she makes Ifrit-egi up as when she wanders the Shroud
if you’re a good and kind and decent wood wailer, your shift will be untroubled by demons. if you’re not? winds will rip at your clothing, the earth will shift under your feet...and a horrible fiery thing will stalk you through the Shroud until you repent**
entirely unrelated, she likes giving Titan-egi legs and making him a bit rounder and friend-shaped
WHAT I REALLY WANT TO TALK ABOUT THOUGH ARE TRANCES
Dreadwyrm Trance: great for cosmic destructive power (and I giggle to myself every time I see a Deathflare go out) but not so great for...uh, anything else. (in addition, she’d had some trouble adjusting, as bahamut’s aether attunes so strongly with her own that when she falls into the trance she sometimes sprouts aetherial wings/scales/claws)
as an active Scion, Rita runs into “anything else” a lot, so she adapted. Heavily. these are also good for when she’s caught without her grimoire, as she only needs a few moments’ meditation to drop into one
Ifrit Trance: fire claws! fast! good for punching and close-quarter combat, since she’s basically igniting the aether around herself. bad for defending. usually employed when she’s just seen a seedkin and panicked. if I could stand to level MNK again I’d make her one for this trance.
Titan Trance: no shield? no problem! the earth is now her shield (and fists, and feet). good at defense and taking hits but very very slow, also useful for if she’s about to collide with the ground very hard. she uses this when for whatever reason she needs to win a physical contest
Garuda Trance: what is this “falling damage” you speak of? it’s no flight, but when she pops this trance she can glide for long enough to avoid horrible splattering death. enemies seem to find her slightly harder to hit, as well. bad for actual combat, very good at running away
at this point, the only remnants of her base class are her DoTs (which she is deeply, deeply fond of) and the tendency to summon her old carbies when she wants something to cuddle and make dumb noises at. her egis tend to be offended if she does that to them
oh
and her reaction to demi-bahamut was just giggling
Shinju Toyotama, arcanist
is just an arcanist, no special powers to speak of, except...
when you grow up in a village under the Ruby Sea and get really excited about heading topside only to discover you are allergic to nearly everything cute and fluffy, you get really attached to carbuncles
her carbies have been custom-coded, possibly building off of other published arrays, for maximum cuteness, personalities (calm, but distinctly Them), and fluffiness. soft fur and big bright expressive eyes are a must
being that she does spend a lot of time in and around the water, they also have webbed toes and sleek, waterproof fur like otters
and very sharp teeth, also like otters
they are very round and exceedingly spoiled
...they also need names, which I will get around to some day
she keeps her head down, studies hard (she has an eye to majoring in aetherochemistry, though her modifications to her squishy carb-buddies probably qualify her for aetherophysics) and tries not to get into trouble, but the first time someone she was assessing picked a fight with her sniffer carby, she Tri-Bound him into a tide pool full of crabs
Do Not Touch The ‘Buncles
instead of grimoires, she prefers scrolls and usually has at least one on her person at all times. calling this clunky or old-fashioned is a good way to get on her bad side
you don’t want to get on her bad side; she enjoys tinkering with biochemistry-based spells for extra credit, drawing on disease and poison symptoms from her native oceans
she’s prone to excitedly going on about the effects of lionfish venom or cone snail toxins at great length, usually over dinner
the general consensus among her fellow underclassmen is that she’s greatly broadening their potential array of damaging effects--but gods, at what cost?
*Rrisya: just a lancer, though it’s possible she made a deal with some sort of forest spirit to do The Big Jumps Portia: is garlean. punches things Real Good. no aether whatsoever. Q’sevet: incredibly lazy (and spoony) bard Evrard: your bog-standard RDM, though he’s prone to busting out a Verblizzard instead of a Verfire Gantsetseg: possibly the only thing that departs from the MCH toolkit is her fondness for different sorts of turrets to control the battlefield, other than that she just does the flippy shooty thing (and insists on calling Stephanivian “Steff”)
**And if you don’t repent...well. Perhaps the last thing you’ll ever see will be a bone-tipped spear and a Miqo’te hunting screech.

Selection: “Together, we’re unstoppable!”
Job: Summoner.
Weapons: Grimoire.
AI Behavior: L’zhai will mostly summon Ruby Carbuncle (Ifrit-Egi) to fight at his side, using Egi Assault I / II whenever possible. His first action in battle will be using Tri-disaster + Bane if there is more than one enemy, and enter Dreadwyrm Trance / Firebird Trance the moment they are ready. He will use Enkindle Bahamut (Akh Morn) / Enkindle Phoenix (Revelation) the moment he summons them, and a second time before they go away. For groups of enemies, he will use Energy Syphon, Outburst and summon Emerald Carbuncle (Garuda-Egi). He will usually avoid AoE’s, but when in Trance he will move as little as possible.
Battle Lines:
“Carbuncle, to me!” —Starting Attack Line
“Dreadwyrm of calamity, unleash your deathly wrath!” —Using Specialty Skills, Variation 1 (Enkindle Bahamut – Akh Morn)
“Firebird of rebirth, cleanse them in your flames!” —Using Specialty Skills, Variation 2 (Enkindle Phoenix – Revelation)
“Grant us your blessings, Carbuncle!” —Assisting an ally, Variation 1 (Aetherpact)
Limit Break:
• “Watch this!” —Using Limit Break I (Skyshard)
• “Heads up!” —Using Limit Break II (Starstorm)
• “Lend me your power, O King of Dragons!” —Using Limit Break III (Teraflare)
KO’d:
• “Why, you…” —Variation 1
• “Ow…” —Variation 2
Revived:
• “You haven’t seen the last of me!” —Variation 1
• “The Master of Carbuncles is back!” —Variation 2

♡ + mountains, ♡ + ocean
Send me ♡ + a word, and I’ll write a headcanon.
Mountain: Taimu doesn’t do well in the cold mountains of Coerthas. Least not unless she has Ifrit-Egi or Ruby Carbuncle at her side to help keep her warm at all times. When visiting friends within Ishgard and without her usual garb l, expecting her bundled in thick sweaters or gear is common sight.
Ocean: Through a good portion of her life she has lived near the ocean, from her memorable childhood in Kugane to her arrival to Eorzea at Lisa Lominsa’s dock. Albeit her place in La Nocsea was more accidental and a half than anything.

I get why Yoshi and some people are like “You have...
What’s an Egi glamour?
So as an Arcanist you have Carbuncle as a pet, a pet shared by all in-universe Arcanists (including Alphinaud and Urianger, as well as all Arcanists in the guild)
But Summoners instead call upon a portion of a Primal’s Aether, giving it form via similar Arcanima to what gives Carbuncle form; because it’s not a primal and it’s formed with your own aether, it doesn’t eat the Aether of the world around it. you also have to force it to bend to your will, so the Summoner quests that give you your egis are boss fights with the egi version of the Primal. These often include miniature versions of Primal fights, so for example the Ifrit-Egi fight included a Nail mechanic.
However, there are only 3 Summoner Summons: a caster pet (Emerald Carbuncle/Garuda-Egi), a tank pet (Topaz Carbuncle/Titan-Egi), and a melee pet (Ifrit-egi/Theoretically Ruby Carbuncle) The original plan from the Dev team was to introduce other egis in expansions, but they realized there was very little room for them without making some unabalanced than others or otherwise the same type of summon.
Thus, the Egi Glamour system was created. You can basically glamour over an existing Egi with any color of Carbuncle: Emerald, Topaz, or Ruby. The idea, however, is that this system will allow Summoners to access Ramuh-egi, Shiva-egi, Leviathan-egi, etc. such that those pets can be in the game and available to Summoners without breaking balance.
That said, while the Carbuncle colors are currently not role-locked, it has been said that future Egi Glamours will be. Ramuh will likely be caster-only, along with maybe Shiva, while Leviathan might be melee or tank. I think the Warring Triad might also be considered for Egi Status, although they aren’t technically Primals IIRC? (They’re... complicated, at the very least) Ravanah-egi will 100% be melee, Bismark will probably be a tank... Susano strikes me as another melee, Lakshmi is very caster-y.
This system might extend to Demi-Bahamut, Summoner’s new Bahamut Summon in Stormblood. We don’t know if it wil yet, but if it does I’m sure we’ll see Demi-Alexander. (I think Shinryu is the 12-stage primal for Stormblood? But don’t quote me on that.)
For some reason I kind of hope King Moggle Mog is a Demi and not an Egi if only to be a cute summon to match the Carbuncles? At least in the cast that we don’t get the Deity Carbuncle as a Bahamut glamour.
tl;dr Re-skins for egi’s only recently added and summoners have been asking for since the dev team said they couldn’t add more summons, which was around when Heavensward launched.
