Tumblr media
You almost hold it together.
Really, you almost do.
But your work day seemed determined never to end. Each time you thought you’d gotten on top of what you needed to do, there was a new fire to put out. It was as if everything that could have gone wrong did, and just about everyone you encountered during your day was in a foul mood.
Even so, you had pushed through frustration after frustration, and finally made it home. It’s your day off tomorrow and you get to spend the rest of your night with your boyfriend. Things are looking up.
Any other day, you would have laughed it off. But when you finally let yourself plop down on the couch that’s flush with your living room wall and bang your head, the dam just breaks.
The sound of a particularly forceful “motherfucker!” sends Bradley bolting downstairs, and when he sees you crouched forward, your face in your hands, he’s on his knees in front of you in seconds.
“Honey? What happened, are you all right?”
“I’m fine,” you say miserably.
“You don’t sound fine.” You don’t respond for a moment. The rough pad of his thumb wipes a wayward tear from your cheek. “You’re crying, hun.”
“I’m fine,” you repeat, voice wavering, “I just hit my head.”
“You hit your head?” You want to curl up and wither away. This is so embarrassing. It’s only the worry in his voice that makes you look up.
“Not hard. I just clonked it when I sat down. I’m… I had a really bad day. I’m sorry.”
“Hey,” he says softly, “don’t apologize. Not your fault you had a bad day. C’mere.” Bradley leans forward, still kneeling in front of you, and wraps you in his arms. You sag into his embrace, and tears begin to darken the fabric of his sweatshirt.
“Do you wanna talk about it?” he asks. A little sob works its way out of your chest.
“Not–– not really.” You feel Bradley’s mustache before his lips as he turns to press a kiss to your temple.
“That’s okay,” he coos, “It’s okay.” He’s quiet for a moment, and then: “I have an idea.”
You aren’t particularly pleased when he gets up, but you don’t have it in you to complain. His footfalls are quiet on the carpet as he pads over to the record player and starts fiddling around.
“What are you doing?” you hazard after a moment.
“I can’t tell you,” he says. “Just hang on a second–– this is gonna be romantic as shit.” You let out a little giggle through your tears, and he grins over his shoulder at you. Leave it to Bradley to make you laugh when all you want to do is crawl into a hole and never come out.
A little flash of blue catches your eye as he finds whatever album he’s been searching for, but you don’t get a good enough look to suss out what it is. Finally, he drops the needle, and you hear the opening notes of No Woman No Cry. The organ plays softly, and you sniffle as a fresh wave of tears hits you. Bradley holds out his hand.
“Dance with me?” You wipe your eyes and nod, shuffling into his arms. He presses a kiss to the crown of your head and draws you in, settling you against his chest with a hand at the nape of your neck. Relief floods through you at the warmth of his touch, the slow and comforting beat of the music, the sway of your bodies.
“I love you,” you mumble into his chest.
“I love you too, baby. I’m sorry you had a bad day.”
“It’s much better now.” That makes him smile. The rest of the song plays out to comfortable silence as you rock back and forth together. It’s a longer cut–– the live version Bradley is playing is a little more than seven minutes–– and eventually, you find that you’re cried out. As the song ends and the crowd on the recording begins to cheer, you tilt your chin up to look at him.
“Thank you,” you whisper.
“Hey, anything to see my girl smile.” And you do, tilting your head down bashfully.
As the cheers fade, the next song on the record begins to play and the plucky guitar of Could You Be Loved fills the room. Unable to help himself, Bradley begins to bob along with the rhythm. He withdraws a little from the embrace and takes your hands, bouncing your arms back and forth. You feign a pout, but it’s useless. As usual, Bradley Bradshaw is sunshine, fending off the gathering clouds until all you can see is him. You relent and begin to match his movements and he breaks into a beautiful, enormous grin.
As you dance late into the night, you remember that this is what it’s all about. That no matter how awful your day is, you have someone to come home to that knows, without fail, how to lift you up.

for you i'd wait forever

a/n: okay so from what i gathered from my googling is that tapping out is typically for new military graduates (i think?) but this idea was so cute so pls forgive the inaccuracies i have no idea what i'm doing at all <3 and also pls forgive me for the utter lack of writing since the beginning of the year, these last few months have been brutal (creatively and otherwise) but i am hopefully back!!! xx
Tumblr media
Bradley thought he knew the tolls of being in the Navy. It was tough on not only him, but the people in his life. For the most part, he’d always put his career first. His life had always been on a set track, and although there were plenty of setbacks, he forged ahead until he got where he was today.
And then he met you. Fell in love with you. Finally knew what it meant to have someone in his corner who was just his. Who knew him for him only, not as Goose’s kid, or Mav’s protege.
For the first time in his life, he could actually see himself spending the rest of it with you. Marriage, house, kids, grandkids—the whole shebang.
That was his first mistake. The more he thought about what life could look like with you, the more he thought about what your life could look like without him. What would happen if something happened to him and he didn’t make it back from this next mission coming up in a few weeks.
He thought about his mom and how she lost his dad—her husband. The man she thought she’d be spending the rest of her life with.
Bradley’s thoughts grew quite grim after that. Countless what if’s and thinking about every possible outcome and he eventually made up his mind. He had to break up with you.
He didn’t want to. Not by a long shot. You were probably the best thing that ever happened to him in his thirty plus years of life. But deep down, he knew that it was the right thing to do. He was about to leave for six, seven months, with little to no contact with anyone who wasn’t Navy. That would definitely take a toll on your relationship. You’d never been through something like this before, and there really was no way to prepare you for what it would be like.
You would worry about him every single hour of every single day, he knew that for a fact. Bradley barely remembered what it was like when his dad was away because he was so young, but he did remember how worried his mom was all the time.
Looking back, he understood now. He didn’t want that for you. The worry would hold you back from other things you wanted to do in life, things that brought you joy and gave you purpose.
With the mission creeping up on him faster than he would’ve liked, he knew he had to do it sooner rather than later.
That was how Bradley found himself on your doorstep right now, pushing down his guilt by telling himself over and over that breaking up with you was in your best interest. He hadn’t called beforehand to tell you he was coming by, so when you answered the door and beamed brighter than the stars when your eyes landed on him, he almost wanted to chicken out.
“Hi!” You exclaimed, immediately pulling him into a warm hug. His arms closed around you out of instinct, thumb rubbing over the sliver of exposed skin at your waist, nose nudging its way against your neck the way he always did when you embraced him.
He inhaled the scent of the lotion you loved to use, that flowery one that sometimes made him sneeze. You always said you’d buy a different one the next time you went to the store, but you always forgot. He didn’t mind it at all though. A small bout of allergies was nothing compared to the inevitable smattering of apology kisses you pressed to his face when you realized you’d forgotten.
Fuck, this was going to be way harder than he thought.
Your hands made their way up his biceps to cup his cheeks, eyes darting around his face. “What’re you doing here? Oh my god, did we have something planned? I’m so—”
“No.” He gave his head a shake, offering you a smile. “No, we didn’t have anything planned. I just…wanted to see you. To talk to you.”
“Come in, come in, I was just about to start dinner,” You hummed, escaping his embrace with an arm hooked through his to tug him over the threshold. “Trying a new recipe I found the other day, not sure if it’ll turn out good or end up being a shitshow, but—well, you can help me be the judge of that, I guess!”
“Is it okay if we talk first?”
If you were confused, you didn’t show it, just changed direction seamlessly, making your way to the couch instead of the kitchen. You sat down, patting the cushion next to you for him to settle on and he did, rubbing his clammy palms against his thighs.
“Is everything okay?”
Everything was far from okay, he wanted to say. Instead he inhaled a deep breath before his next words.
“I wanted to tell you I’m shipping out in a few weeks.”
Your face fell a little, but you nodded thoughtfully. “Okay. What do we do? Is there anything you can tell me? Like, what’s the best way to get in touch with you, when’s the best time, that kind of stuff? Or is sending letters better? Sorry, I feel like I’m asking a lot of questions. I don’t—I’ve never really done anything like this before, so—”
“I think we should break up.” He blurted.
You hesitated before answering, blinking at him like you’d somehow heard him wrong. “What?”
“It’s hard having someone overseas for a long time, even more so when it’s a partner. It was really hard on my mom, and hard for me having to watch her worry like that for months, and I—I don’t want that for you.” He said quietly, not daring to meet your eyes until he gave his poor excuse for an explanation on why he was doing the one thing he swore he wouldn’t do to you.
The moment he’d realized he’d fallen in love with you, he’d promised himself he would never abandon you, never break your heart or your trust, and here he was, doing that exact thing. It was tearing him apart inside.
“I don’t want you to have to go through all that, so it’s just better if we—that we break up now. Before I go.”
“What are you doing?”
“I’m sorry. It’s for the best.”
“Why are you doing this?” Your voice broke just after the last word, swallowed up by a hitched inhale of a breath that had his resolve wavering just the slightest bit. He could barely look you in the eyes the whole time, and now…he didn’t think he could stand the sadness and hurt flooding every single one of your beautiful features.
“All the worrying and the uncertainty of not knowing what’s happening, I don’t—it wouldn’t be fair to you. I care about you too much to put you through all of that.”
You were silent for the longest time, eyes glued to the floor as you processed the information. He thought you were about to start crying with the way your brow creased, but when you finally looked back up at him, your gaze had hardened. “Did these last six months mean nothing to you? You’re just gonna throw everything away because what—you don’t think I can handle it?”
They meant everything to me, he wanted to say. You mean everything to me.
If he was really being honest with himself, it was him who couldn’t handle it. Still, he forged on, thinking it best to just rip off the bandaid. He could live with being the asshole if it meant sparing you from the terrible experience of him being god knows how many miles away for months.
“I’m sorry. I wish you nothing but happiness, Y/N. You deserve better than anything I could ever give you.”
“You wish me nothing but happiness?” You chuckled humorlessly, shaking your head. Bradley’s eyes tracked you across the room as you paced back and forth, guilt ridden expression on full display. All he wanted to do was take all of it back; to kiss you senseless and tell you everything was going to work out, but he couldn’t. He’d burned the bridge, cut the rope. Broke your heart. He felt like the biggest asshole in the world. He probably was. “Screw you, Bradley. I mean it.”
“I’m sorry.” He repeated, for what seemed like the hundredth time. It was all he could say.
“Get the fuck out of my house.”
“Y/N, I—”
You rushed at him, pushing, shoving, sending him stumbling step by step towards the front door until he almost crashed into it had he not managed to pull it open a split second before you shoved him outside. He’d never forget the look of betrayal in your eyes right before you slammed the door in his face.
Bradley forced his feet to take him back to his car, then to drive away before he could have a chance to even try and make things better. He’d most likely end up making things much, much worse. Though he didn’t think it could get any worse with the way he was feeling about himself right now. You were angry at him, and you had every right to be.
But had he lingered at your door only moments after, he would’ve heard the thump against the wood that was you sliding down to the floor and the sob that escaped your mouth.
All because of him.
-------
Bradley was happy to finally be coming back home after ages away, but then he realized it—he didn’t have anyone to tap him out this time. His mind jumped to you first, but there was no chance in hell you’d be there for him. You’d probably moved on months ago. Forgotten about him. And with Mav away on another deployment, he really had no one.
His chest ached the longer he stood at attention, jaw clenched tighter than he meant it to be as he watched the rest of his squad get tapped out by their loved ones. Coyote’s parents, Fanboy’s sisters, Hangman’s nieces and nephews, Phoenix’s girlfriend. They were all emotional reunions, and Bradley was happy for them, he really was. But it sucked being the one with nobody there for him.
He wasn’t expecting the soft tap on his arm when it came. He thought it was a mistake at first; someone else’s family bumping into him accidentally, so he didn’t move. But when the hand didn’t leave its place wrapped loosely around his bicep, Bradley knew it really was for him. He turned around, squinting against the blinding sunlight to see who’d come for him.
“Hi.” You said softly, hand dropping back down to your side. He couldn’t help but let himself take you in, eyes drinking in every single achingly familiar detail of you until you shifted nervously under his intense gaze. You looked so beautiful he almost felt dizzy, just like he remembered but at the same time somehow even better.
“You came.” He said, disbelieving. He could still hardly believe you were actually here.
“I promised you I would.”
“But that—that was before…everything happened. Why are you—what’re you doing here?” The last thing he wanted to sound like was ungrateful, because he was quite literally the opposite, but his mind just couldn’t wrap around the fact that despite him breaking your heart seven months ago, you still remembered what you’d promised him in the very beginning of your relationship.
“What does it mean to tap someone out?” You asked quietly, tracing a finger along the planes of Bradley’s bare chest. Your legs were tangled under the covers, both of you still basking in the aftermath of getting reacquainted with each other again after Bradley had been out of town attending a weeklong training exercise.
His skin was still damp with sweat, but you didn’t mind one bit, too busy exploring the expanse of muscle shifting under his bronzed skin again. “In military terms, I mean.”
He chuckled, hiding a content smile into the hair at the crown of your head. “That’s a weird question.”
“Humor me, Bradshaw.”
“Yes ma’am.” Bradley stroked a rough palm down the smooth skin of your arm, taking a few beats to come up with an answer that would make sense. “Tapping out is a super long standing tradition in pretty much all military units, I think. It comes at the end of a mission, when we’ve come back to base.”
His arm repositioned itself under your head as he scooted closer to the warmth radiating from your body, nose nuzzling deeper against you just so he could engrain the smell of your lingering fruity scented shampoo into his memory forever.
How you still smelled so good even after your…physical activities just before this was beyond him, but he loved it.
“An aviator’s loved ones are usually the ones to do it. Friends, family, those kinds of people. When you tap out your aviator, literally you’re releasing them from formation. But I guess it’s kind of a gesture that means…you’re home.”
Your wandering fingers stilled against his skin, lingering right above his heart. “Can I ask you something?”
“Go for it.”
“Who usually taps you out?”
Bradley remained silent. It was an innocent question, he knew that. He’d told you a little bit about his parents, and you were just curious. Still, it sent a pang of sadness through his chest whenever he thought about what it would’ve been like if they were still around today.
He cleared his throat, sniffing once. “Usually Mav. Or sometimes one of my squad’s family. If no one can, I just gotta wait til everyone else is done.”
“I wanna do it.”
“What?”
“I’m gonna be there next time you come back from a mission. To tap you out.”
“I appreciate it, honey, I do. But you don’t need to.”
“I want to.” You said firmly, pulling away from him to prop yourself up on your elbow and look him in the eye. You looked damn serious too. He raised a quizzical brow. “You said that to tap someone out means to tell them they’re home. I want to be the one to tell you you’re home. Here. With me.”
Bradley opened his mouth like he was going to say something, then snapped shut when no words came out. He really was at a loss for words. No one had ever done that before. Sure, Mav’s offer was always a good one to fall back on, but Bradley had never had someone he cared about as much as he did about you telling him they were going to be there for him.
The next best thing he could think of instead of saying anything at all was to kiss you. So he did.
He pushed himself up towards you, sliding a hand around the nape of your neck and pressing his lips against yours. Not bruisingly hard, but enough to let you know he was all in. The other hand curled around your shoulder, splaying across your back to bring you back in closer to him, until your chests were flush and you could feel his heartbeat thundering under your palm.
He was home. You were his home.
“I told you I’d be here to tap you out, and I meant it.” You said simply, holding his gaze. “I keep my promises, Bradshaw. Even after the way you left things.”
Red hot guilt crept its way through his chest like vines, bringing all the memories of the last time you saw each other right back up to the surface, even after how hard he’d tried to shove them all down. If there was one thing he regretted in life, it was how he left you that night. He didn’t think he’d ever forgive himself for that one.
“I don’t even know what to say, Y/N, I—”
“Then let me say something.” You blurted, wringing your hands. Bradley nodded instantly, still too dumbfounded to reply. “I’ve been thinking about what I wanted to say to you today for months. I don’t even know if I should.”
“You should.” He encouraged, nodding quickly. He’d always wanted you to be able to speak your mind with him. “Don’t hold back. Let me hear it.”
“Okay. Okay, well first of all, you’re an asshole, Bradley.”
He nodded again. He deserved at least that much. “I am. Absolute asshole, I know.”
“But I never stopped loving you. Even though I was angry and sad and confused as fuck as to why you would do that to me, I still loved you. And eventually, I realized that it wasn’t anything I did wrong. You were scared. Of losing me, of me losing you. So you decided it was your responsibility to pull the ripcord before you crashed and burned.” Bradley winced slightly at the comparison and you grimaced at your own poor choice in words. “I—sorry, I didn’t mean it like that.”
“It’s okay. You’re right. You didn’t deserve that.”
“You said you didn’t want me to worry while you were gone, well, I did that anyways.” You chuckled, like you were remembering a fond memory instead of the constant state of anxiety you’d been in. “But instead of worrying that the man I love might not make it home, I was terrified that if you didn’t come home, I’d spend my whole life replaying our last conversation in my head. Wondering if there was something I could’ve said or done so you wouldn’t have given up on us so easily.”
“You think that was easy for me? Sweetheart, walking away from you was one of the hardest things I’ve had to do in my whole life.”
“Sure seemed pretty easy.” You scoffed lightly, only a tad spiteful. A low blow, you realized, when Bradley stiffened for a split second, but you held steady.
“It wasn’t.” His reply was immediate and firm as could be, but somehow, that didn’t make you feel any better. “You have to understand, breaking things off was the last thing I wanted to do. But I couldn’t—I thought that if I didn’t, you’d wait for me.”
“I would’ve waited, Bradley! I did wait for you! For you, I'd wait forever because I love you, but you didn’t even give me that choice. You made the decision on your own instead of talking to me about it. That was what hurt the most.”
“I’m sorry.” Bradley said quietly, reaching out to take your hand. His fingers laced through yours almost tentatively, feeling so familiar but so foreign at the same time. There was a point in your life where you never thought that concept would apply to Bradley. “I never should’ve left like that, I wish I could take it all back.”
“I think I understand now why you did it. I understand that fear that comes with the experience of losing a loved one like that. But Bradley, you’re not responsible for my feelings. And I don’t care how scared you get, I’m not going anywhere. From now on, we work things out together, no matter what you think is best.”
“From now on? Does that mean…?”
“You’re my home, Bradley Bradshaw.”
Bradley took your face in his hands and he kissed you, long and hard, pouring every ounce of pent up feelings he’d been bottling up for the past seven months into it. Pain, fear, love, hope—all of it. You were never one to believe in such emotion being able to convey itself through a simple physical action, but now you could honestly say you understood it.
Your hands spread across the broadness of his back, fingers pressing into the crisp starch of his uniform like you were afraid of letting him go , even though he was home and everything was okay now. Losing him the first time made you angry. You didn’t even want to imagine possibly losing him a second time.
He drew back, only far enough to press his lips to your forehead, hands still holding you close as could be. “Thank you for coming.”
“I don’t make a habit of breaking my promises.”
“C’mon, I wanna introduce you to the squad.” He said softly, lacing his fingers through yours. The way he all but bounded over to the group of aviators a little ways away was almost boyish, as was the excitement in his voice when he approached them. “Hey everyone, there’s someone I want you to meet.” Bradley announced, sliding a hand around to the small of your back.
Everyone’s eyes turned on you, conversations petering to a gradual stop as they looked between you and Bradley. You shifted nervously, suddenly feeling unsure with all the attention on you, but Bradley’s thumb rubbed along your skin, soothing you just a bit. “This is Y/N. My girlfriend.”
The tall blond reacted the quickest, snapping loudly before aiming a finger in your direction, along with a shiny smile. “Wait, I know you! You’re the one in that photo Rooster keeps tucked in his helmet. Lemme tell you, he looked at that picture every damn day, it was like—”
Bradley let out a very forced laugh, aiming a not-so-subtle daggered glare at the other man. “Okay, Hangman! That’s okay, I really don’t think—”
“You’re a real saint, taking this one back. If I ever pulled the shit he did, my car would’ve been keyed to all hell when I came home.” Hangman chuckled, giving his head a shake.
“Hangman. Shut. Up.”
“Don’t tell me to shut up, you shut up!”
“You’re the only one talking!”
“Alright, alright, you’re both grown men here,” The dark haired woman sighed, turning towards you. “At least, I hope so.”
You chuckled at that, casting a glance over at Bradley to find him already looking back at you, the back and forth with Hangman already long forgotten given the way he was smiling at you, like you were the force that made the world go round. Taking you in under his arm, he dotted a kiss to your hairline as your fingers came up to intertwine with his again, watching you interact with his squad like you’d known them for years.
It was everything he ever wanted. And now that he had it, he’d never be dumb enough to let it go again.
His mind drifted back to his parents’ fate— how they never got to live out their life together. How there was no guarantee about anything when it came to Bradley’s own fate with you.
And sure, it was scary to be so uncertain about the future, but you’d both climb that hill together when the time came. For now, Bradley could let himself be content. This second chance at a life with you wasn’t one he was planning on taking lightly, not by a long shot.
“Let’s get off this damn carrier and hit the town! Drinks at the Hard Deck, last one there buys the first round!” Hangman’s drawling voice drew Bradley out of his thoughts, just in time to let the words sink in.
You, on the other hand, stifled a giggle at the sight of seeing a group of full grown adults scatter as fast as Bradley’s friends did. Watching Hangman nearly shove Coyote to the ground upon seeing their cars were parked next to each other was something you’d never not get a kick out of.
But Bradley, he didn’t seem as worried about it all. In fact, he walked leisurely with your hand firmly in his, swinging both of them between the two of you as you made your way to your own car.
“Aren’t you worried you’ll be the last one there?”
“I’ll buy the round, I don’t care.” He shrugged. “I wanna spend some time with my girl.”
“Your girl.” You hummed, giving his hand a squeeze. “Gotta say, I’ve missed hearing that.”
“I’ve missed saying it. We’ve got a lot to catch up on, honey. Starting with, do you or do you not have a voodoo doll made in my image that you stabbed with pins when I was away because I broke your heart?”
You scoffed, letting out a not so attractive snort. “Bradley, I mean this in the most respectful way possible—what the hell are you talking about? Where would you even get that idea?”
“I—uh, I had a dream about it? A few weeks into deployment.” He admitted sheepishly, cheeks burning red in embarrassment. You pressed your lips together, trying not to laugh. “You don’t, right?”
“Don’t be ridiculous.” You replied, giving his chest a firm pat. You didn’t have a voodoo doll of him, of course, but playing along was worth it just to see Bradley squirm.
“Wait, wait, wait, but you didn’t say no.”
“I didn’t.”
“So you do?”
“I didn’t say that either. But if you’re not sure, I’d watch yourself the next couple weeks.”
His brows furrowed in confusion and a bit of fear as he watched you walk away from him with some bounce to your step. “I…really don’t like the sound of that. Hang on, get back here. Explain, please!”

Hey girly
LOVE YOUR BLOG, just to get the most important part of my message out at first ❤️I have a little idea, cause I'm currently obsessed with our beloved sexy cute Rooster. When it's too crazy, too au, too much not your style or just too much trash, please let me know. And as a warning, English is not my first language, but I try to write as best as I can, hope you understand everything =)
Reader is working at top gun, not as a pilot, but maybe she's working in the bureau doing paperwork and stuff, but she's really close to the pilots, maybe especially to Rooster (both secretly in love). One day the Top Gun terrain (like the aifield, hangar, the bureaus etc... Sorry don't know the right word) is under lock down cause there's an armed intruder holding everyone hostage. I feel like I need a huge portion of angst today. Rooster trying to keep her calm in the situation, she's afraid and slightly in panic. So imagine reader needs her medication urgently (like she has heart problems or something like that) but now, hours being hostage she's feeling worse. Rooster being there for her, maybe holding her in his arms, trying to calm her racing heart and rapid breathing. Just some Rooster comfort 😭
Sorry for my long request. Hope it's ok.

Date Night
bradley “rooster” bradshaw x reader
summary: you and rooster go on a date to the hard deck.
warnings: brief alcohol mention, fluffy rooster
wc: 542
a/n: based on this request. A short and sweet (and fluffy) Rooster fic for y’all ❤️
Tumblr media
Rooster called you earlier in the day to ask you out for drinks at The Hard Deck. You hesitated, but finally agreed.
Now you’re waiting in your living room, waiting for that blue Bronco to pull into your drive. When it finally does, you jump up and head to the door, leaving and locking it before Rooster comes to a stop.
You hop into his truck. “Hey,” you beam.
“Hey,” Rooster smiles, leaning over and giving you a quick kiss. “Someone’s eager.”
“I’m just excited it’s Friday and you’re done with work for a little.”
Rooster smiles again before he reverses out of your driveway and heads to The Hard Deck.
It’s a short 7 minute drive to the bar from your place. The two of you get out of the Bronco and head in. As soon as you enter, you take Rooster’s hand into yours.
“Rooster! Y/n!” Phoenix calls out from the back.
You smile and lead Rooster to the back to join your friends.
“We already got beers for everyone,” Phoenix nods towards a table with beers on it.
“Thanks Phoenix,” Rooster says, dropping your hand to walk to the table and pick up two beers.
“How are you and Rooster?” Phoenix asks playfully.
You giggle. “So good, Nat. So, so good.”
“Rooster’s been so much happier with you around. I’m glad you two found each other,” she tells you.
You nod.
Rooster comes back with a beer for you.
“Thanks,” you say, taking the beer and taking a drink from it.
“What are you two talking about?” Rooster asks.
“Boys,” Phoenix teases.
“Gross,” Rooster replies in the same teasing tone.
As the night goes on, you and Rooster are glued together.
During a game of pool, Rooster comes up behind you and helps you line up your shot, earning a round of groans and (teasing) comments from the group.
Rooster takes you by the hand later and pulls you to the piano with him, where he plays around on the keys, not making much of anything, just teaching you.
The two of you laugh when you try using both hands to play the piano, only to make a jumbled mess of notes.
“Maybe we’ll stick with one hand,” Rooster says playfully, kissing your cheek.
“I don’t think I was made to play piano,” you tell him.
“We’ll keep practicing.”
You laugh and give Rooster a kiss.
Later, as the crowd dies down and the Dagger Squad has parted ways, Rooster takes you home.
“I had fun tonight,” he tells you when his car comes to a stop in your driveway once again.
“I did too, Roos,” you say, placing a hand on his leg.
Pause.
“Do you want to stay the night?” you ask.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah,” you say with a nod.
“Sure,” he smiles, turning the Bronco off.
You lead him inside and the two of you fall onto the couch, slightly giggly. You cuddle up against Rooster.
“Bradley?” you ask.
“What is it?” he replies, shifting to get a good look at you.
“I love you.”
Rooster smiles and places a kiss on your temple. “I love you too.”

"It's Cold Without You"
Pairing: Bradley 'Rooster' Bradshaw x reader
Word Count: 2,452
Summary: A perfect description of your psyche while your husband is gone, would be the color blue. When he leaves, he takes the warmth with him, dragging the color orange behind himself, only bringing it and the sunrise upon his return.
Warning(s): Angst and descriptive thoughts of anxiety and death
A/N: It's a little abrupt, but I really wanted to post something. And I also wanted to express a specific energy (my requests r still open)
I am an 18+ Blog.
The house is cold. Maybe it's the slow approach of Winter, or the fact that the heater was busted and you refused to call someone to fix it. But the house wasn't as warm as it usually was. You stopped using the lamps with yellow bulbs, instead opting for either the blinding overhead light, or no light at all. The curtains were perpetually drawn, closing your bedroom off from the world outside, closing you off from the world outside.
Everyday is the same thing on repeat, go to work only to return home. But no matter where you are, you're always miserable. When you're at work you want nothing more than to be at home, wrapped in a blanket of silence and warmth. Though, when you're at your house, you feel lonelier than ever, longing for the human connection of your job and coworkers.
It isn't always like this, the chill in the air. The chill that settles so deeply within your bones your teeth chatter, it isn't typically present. And you know why it's here, but admitting it feels colder than the wind that hits you harshly when you walk outside. Saying it out loud, or even thinking about it for too long makes you feel... shitty, for lack of a better word to describe yourself in your head.
You don't tell him the problems you're having. You especially would never tell him why you are having these issues. Because you know him, inside and out, and you know he'll feel guilty. But you also know yourself well enough to be aware of the fact he knows you just the same. He would so easily see through the facade you have created, look through the walls you've built up as if they were a window pane. This is why you've been dodging his calls, and why he currently thinks you are sick with the flu.
You simply wait, counting the days until he's home, begging time will move faster. And while you lay in bed alone, ponder on the idea that perhaps you're wasting your life. You know it's pathetic, the fact your existence is dependent on the presence of your husband. And you feel horrible, the codependency clawing its way up your throat. It's even worse when you remember you haven't always felt this way, and you don't know what's changed. You don't know why you can't seem to act like yourself when he's gone.
Well, perhaps you do know. You just don't want to admit it. You don't want to admit that you're terrified. You don't want to admit that every time he comes home complaining of a new ailment due to a painful ejection, you get nervous. That every call from one of his superiors, or even one of his colleagues, you have a shock of terror that has your heart beating out of your chest. That you only ever feel comfortable knowing he's alive when he's next to you.
When he's home, it's different. He doesn't realize he does it, but he chases the chill away. The nervousness that wraps itself around your ribs, squeezing until your heart constricts, it lessens. You find yourself distracted by the feeling of his hands on your hips, the pressure of his kisses against your skull, that it all disappears for a moment. But you know, as your ear presses against his chest at night, listening to him breathe, that the problem is still present.
"How do you feel about kids?" He asks one day, standing behind you as you analyze the paint samples for the bathroom after it's remodeling.
And your heart sinks, because you don't know. You don't know if you'd be able to handle a baby with him, let alone when he leaves. How would you be able to calm a crying baby when you consider yourself one when he's gone?
How would you be able to handle his death...?
You think about it a lot. The idea that he will fall to his demise the same way his father did, leaving the same trauma his dad left him, on the child you two have. But you don't know if you're as strong as Carole Bradshaw. You never considered yourself a weak person, but that's what he does. Bradley makes you weak, and you don't know if you'd survive his death. If you'd be able to go on with your life, go back to normal. You don't know if you'd be able to handle your own grief, not to mention teaching your child how to do so.
You don't give him an answer that day, and he lets it go. He's good at that; letting go. It was always something you admired about him, his ability to let things slide over him, continuing on easily. The only exception he had ever displayed, was his attitude towards Pete Mitchel, never letting that go. And you can't help but wonder if you'd do the same thing to your child. Would you hold them back? Perhaps beg Jake Seresin to pull your own sons papers because you'd be so blinded by the grief for Bradley, that you'd stop your own child from achieving his dream as well.
Today is a day like any other, the calendar is marked with a bright red heart exactly six days from now. You tell yourself the house will be clean three days prior to his arrival, and the Bronco will be washed the day before, and you will be presentable the day of. But for now, you hide within the comforter that his smell still lingers on. You've taken the week off, avoiding your job with a simple call that ends with a cough you and your manager know is fake.
Bradley is never early. He's a punctual man. He's never late either. He has a talent of showing up to things at the exact time as expected. And you adore this about him, because you're never nervous about when he'll show up. After ten years together, why would you ever think that would change?
He notices the house is darker and colder than normal. He softly drops his duffel by the door, removing his boots slowly before treading towards the lamp in the living room. And the home looks eerily different. He knows you're sick right now, but he questions the extent of it as he takes in the mess.
Almost all of the dishes are piled in the sink, definitely not the amount someone who has been sick for a little over a week would use in that time. His eyes move from the dishes to the rest of the counter, where mail is scattered. He removes himself from the room, drifting into the laundry room where what can only be your entire wardrobe laying haphazardly in front of the washing machine.
It's not that Bradley ever expected you to be the sole proprietor of the household chores, typically every task being traded between the two of you. But this was clearly out of character for you. He always came home to a spotless house, something he dearly appreciated. Internally he wonders if it's his fault, for coming home too early, but he can't help but be concerned.
His chest constricts when he walks into your shared bedroom to find you, curled into the fetal position sleeping. You look exhausted, even though you're sleeping. For a moment he forgets all about the fact that his back hurts, or the fact he's been wanting to sleep in his own bed for almost two months. All he can think of is you.
"Baby," He whispers, a hand softly against your shoulder. "Honey?"
You awake with a sharp intake of breath, heart beating out of your chest in a panic. Realizing it is your husband and not in fact a murderer, does little to quell your anxieties.
"Bradley?" You blurt, springing up. "What are you doing here? It's not the twelfth is it?" You go to reach for your phone, frustration leaking through your voice. "What are you doing home?"
"I came home early," He exhales, brows knitted in concern as you rush around the room. You're clearly distressed, pacing before you finally stop and run your hands down your face.
"Why?" You dare to ask, voice warbling against your will. "Why are you home early?"
"You sounded like you were really sick, and it was only six days-" He clenches his eyes shut before looking at you with his sad eyes. "What's wrong?"
"You aren't supposed to be home yet." You whisper, crossing your arms. Your face crumbles as you remember the state of the house, the state of yourself.
"Baby if you've been sick longer than you told me, we can go to the hospital," He stands up, stepping towards you. "Something can really be wrong-"
"You're not supposed to be home," You repeat, turning it into a mantra under your breath as you cover your eyes. You can feel the slow burn as tears erupt from your eyes, strong emotions wrapping themselves around you like an octopus around a crab. Faintly, you can feel Bradley's hands touch your shoulders, and the way he rubs up and down doesn't feel the way it normally does. His touch burns your skin, itchy and irritating in a way that makes you want to cry harder.
"Will you let me take you to the doctor?"
"Will you shut up about the hospital?" You hiss, your frustration coming to head as you explode. His hands pull away as you look at him with such venom on your tongue, you can taste it. "God! Why are you home?"
His face twists in confusion, then to his own form of irritation matching yours. He doesn't understand, and typically you'd feel bad because it isn't his fault. But he wasn't supposed to be home yet.
"I don't understand." His mouth is slightly agape as he exhales. "I thought you were sick, you weren't answering my calls, you haven't been to work in two weeks-"
"You called my job?"
"I was worried!" He shouts, and you feel itchy again. "I was worried about you! And evidently I needed to be because the house is a mess-"
This strikes a chord within you. The house is yours. Bradley and you share ownership of it, you bought it together, decorated it together, but it's your domain. Every detail is finalized by you, from the color of the floors to the oven you own. It's yours. And it hurts that he points out how you've mistreated it. It hurts on a deeper level that he thinks this. No matter how much you know it's true.
"Don't you dare talk to me about my house." You can hold yourself back, snapping back at him.
"It's a fucking mess!" He points out, and you know. You know it's true. "It's never like this so clearly something is wrong and I'm worried about you!" You don't know what to do, because you had everything planned out, you knew when things were going to be put back-
And he's home early.
You prided yourself on being able to hide this part of your life from him. Being able to disguise your pain behind a mask of stability, pretending nothing had changed. That you hadn't changed. But now that's all gone. He's taken a peak behind the curtain and now the entire illusion falls apart, like ashes between your fingers.
"I just want you to tell me what's wrong." His voice is lower now, and he knows you're avoiding eye contact. "You've been pulling away, and I'm worried."
You can't bring yourself to lift your eyes from the floor to his face, where you know his eyes are bright regardless of the hurt that paints them.
"Is it me?" He asks, bending slightly to try and put his eyes in your line of sight. "Do you not want me anymore? Us?"
"No-" You can see his heart break in his eyes as you look up. "It's not that. No, Bradley, it's not that." You step closer, harshly laughing at yourself. "It's the opposite."
"I don't understand, honey."
"I love you." You whisper, feeling warmer now as his hands slide to your hips. "I love you so much, there's no one else in the world I'd even consider replacing you with. And I can't imagine my life without you."
He watches you apprehensively, eyes darting to your hands and back up to your eyes.
"I'm scared." You finally let it slip, soft like a prayer, quiet like a secret. He tilts his head slightly, practically begging you to elaborate. "I'm scared, when you leave the house for work in the morning. I'm scared when you go on missions-" your voice cracks harshly. "My heart drops every time Mav calls me instead of you, and when someone knocks on the door."
"I don't..."
"I'm scared that you're going to die soon." You blurt, not missing the way his eyes widen.
"Baby, I'm not going to die-"
"Do you think Goose told Carole that?" You ask, knowing you're crossing a line. Tears blur your vision. "You can't tell me you aren't going to die because you are, and there's nothing I can do to stop it-"
The hug is abrupt, your face being pushed into his neck and your bodies close. You feel nothing other than Bradley, and you can't even bring yourself to apologize as your hot tears drip onto his skin and inevitably his shirt. Your fingers tighten around his back, desperate to have him closer because you don't think he'll ever be close enough unless you're beneath his skin.
You know this conversation isn't done, it's not tied neatly with a bow on top. You know there's an entire can of worms that inevitably will be opened. But for a moment you feel warm again. Heat bubbles beneath your skin, rumbling through your chest as you feel his heart beating against your chest. Reds and oranges fly behind your eyelids in a way that has you breathing easier.
As he silently pulls the both of you to the bed, he hugs you a bit tighter. The smell of him surrounds you in a thick layer, your skin buzzing beneath the feeling of his lips against your forehead. You whine as he pulls away, tucking you in like you're a child.
"We're not done talking about this." He whispers, looking down at you with his sorrowful eyes. "Not even close to being done talking about this."
"Okay," You say softly back, agreeing.
"But you should get some sleep," He advises with a crooked smile. "I'll be here when you wake up."

hi love! can i request Daddy sleeping with the baby on the couch after dinner with Rooster please? 💕
Haley, my dearest Haley of course!!!!! I feel bad I don't do much for Rooster to begin with but as they say "When in Rome, do as they do" (lol).
Tumblr media
You had just finished cleaning up Thanksgiving dinner, the other Daggers just having helped you with the last of the dishes while Mav put away the leftovers.
Your gaze turned to the living room where Rooster was sound asleep with your newborn son Nicky, both snoring away on the living room couch. You laughed just a little bit but they both looked so sweet together, the tiny little one curled against his father, just as Bradley had in those old photos of Goose and Carole.
You snapped a few pictures on your phone, hoping to send them to the rest of the Daggers later before waking Rooster. "Roo," you whispered. "Roo-Roo......Bradley are you awake?"
"Hmm?" Rooster mumbled sleepily, his eyes half open.
"I didn't know if you wanted anything else," you chuckled.
"Sorry baby m'full," he mumbled sleepily. "Nicky passed out a half hour ago."
You wanted so badly to go and put Nicky upstairs but you didn't dare. You threw a blanket over them both before kissing Rooster's forehead. "Go back to sleep," you told him. "I'll get everything else squared away."
And Rooster did just that, a huge but sleepy smile on his face as he dreamt of you and Nicky.

You and Bradley planned a low-key Thanksgiving for the family. It was going to be a laid back and cozy night.
All the kids were asleep while all the adults started to make dinner. It was going to be an early night since everyone had to work early the next morning.
Austin made his famous stuffing. He had brought it the year prior and it had to be the best stuffing you and Bradley had ever had in your lives.
Phoenix made a a potato casserole along with some green beans.
Hangman worked on the turkey, making sure it was pure perfection. (Like himself)
You made mashed potatoes, gravy, and Mac and cheese.
Bradley started to set up the table. He put out the best cutlery you and him had in the house, as well as the best looking plates. The ones that weren’t stained nor microwaved burned from the men of the house.
Bradley wrote name tags for everyone and set each of them on a plate at the table. He grabbed a jar and labeled it “What I am Grateful For.” And placed it in the middle of the table.
“Thanksgiving dinner for brunch is the best idea we’ve ever came up with.” Hangman laughed as he was basting the turkey with broth and butter. “This baby is almost ready!”
Bradley laughed and smiled. “I am so ready to eat. I missed dinner last night so I could be an endless pit today.”
Phoenix scoffed as she finished laying out her dishes she repaired. “You’re always and endless pit, Bradshaw. You and your kids!” She slapped his shoulder as she set the dishes onto the table.
You came over and looked at the table. Bradley had set out some little pumpkins left over from Halloween. He lit a couple of candles, he set put the nice silverware and plates. He put out 2 variances of wine glasses. (Plastic ones for the kiddos) Each plate had everyone’s name on it. It was so cute and simple.
You kissed his cheek. “Thank you for setting the table, Brad.” You placed the Gravy onto the table as Bradley went to grab the mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese.
As everyone started to lay their dishes onto the table, you and Bradley went upstairs to get the kiddies ready. Everyone decided that Thanksgiving themed pajamas were the move.
The boys wore matching turkey onesies, Leia wore a “bring on the leftovers” pajama, Bradley wore a pajama that was full of turkeys, you wore a pajama set that was covered in cute coffees, lattes, pies, and pumpkins.
You and Bradley brought down the kids. The boys were strong enough to start sitting on their own in their high chairs. So you and Bradley placed them into each of theirs. Leia pranced around and looked at all the food that was laid out for everyone.
“GOSH I AM SO HUNGRY!” Leia was so excited. “You and me both, sweetheart.” Bradley picked up Leia and kissed her cheek over and over again.
Everyone started to make their way downstairs.
Phoenix wore an oversized pajama set that said, “official pumpkin pie tester.”
Austin wore a grey pajama set with pumpkin pies all over it. (Hehehe)
Gunner came running into the kitchen with a onesie that had turkeys, pumpkins, and “happy thanksgiving” written all over it.
You all started to take a seat at the table. Bradley sat at the head of the table. You to the left of him. Next to you was Phoenix followed by Austin and then little Bradley in his high chair next to him. On the other side was going to be Leia, Jake, and then Luke in his high chair.
You were all seated and Bradley looked around for Jake.
“Seresin. Hurry the hell up!” You slapped Bradley’s arm and shook your head. “Sorry, sweetheart.” Bradley cleared his throat. “MOVE YOUR ASS, SERESIN!”
“IM COMING!” Jake yelled from the top of the stairs. You could all hear him making his ay down.
“HO-LY. SHIIIIIT.” Bradley, Leia, and Phoenix all said at the same time as Jake made his way down.
Hangman was in a big turkey onesie. He had the hood on and everything.
“That is one big Turkey.” Austin laughed as he looked at Jake.
“Gobble Gobble these nuts, Bradshaw.” Jake laughed and Bradley spit out his water.
“MY CHILDREN ARE IN THE ROOM.” He lunged for Leia’s ears.
Once you all sat down every one took turns writing what they were grateful for and placed it into the jar.
Bradley jumble the jar and everyone took turns asking out a paper and reading what was on it.
You were first, “I am grateful for being able to spend this holiday season (and everyday) with the people I love.” You smiled and looked around. Austin raised his hand. “Mine. I’m grateful to have you all in my life. I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
You passed the jar to Phoenix. “I am grateful for being alive and being around those I love the most.” Phoenix looked straight at Bradley. Bradley smiled and nodded at Phoenix. “That be me. I love you guys.”
Phoenix passed the jar to Austin. “I am grateful for food.” Everyone looked slowly at Leia. She started to turn red and giggle. “I AM HUNGRY, OKAY!” She crossed her arms and scowled at everyone as you all laughed.”
Austin gave the jar to Leia. “I am grateful for all my friends and family.” Leia looked up at everyone. Phoenix put her finger up. “Me. I’m grateful for all of you. Life would have been lame if I wasn’t here with you all right now.” She looked at Hangman, “That includes you too, Bagman.” They both laughed.
Leia gave the jar to Hangman. “Here, Uncle Jakey.” He kissed her cheek and pulled out one of the folded papers. “I am grateful for the beautiful family I have been given.” You smiled, “I don’t know where i would have been if I hadn’t met or created any of you. I love you, guys.”
Jake reached over Leia and gave the jar to Bradley. “WELL. We all know who is left.” Jake laughed.
Bradley pulled out the last folded paper. “Let’s see what we’ve got here.” He looked down at it and his smile softened. He looked at Jake and gave him a little nod and he nodded back. Bradley sighed. “I am grateful for saving the man that saved me. Thank you Bradshaw for taking me in as one of your own after all these years. I don’t deserve you, buddy. I am thankful for being able to be a part of his and y/n’s family.” Bradley folded the paper back up and smiled at Hangman.
Jake pushed his lips together and smiled. “Of course you’d get mine. But it’s true. I’ll forever be grateful and thankful that you both have allowed me to be a part of your family. Thank you.” You got up and gave Jake a kiss on the cheek. Bradley smiled, “I couldn’t imagine a life without you, Turkeyman.”
Leia gave Jake a kiss. “I love you, uncle Jakey!”
After all the thanks were given you all ate together reminiscing on what the year had been so far. You were all grateful for everything you were given in the last 11 months.
After dinner, you all cozied up on the couches and Leia chose to watch ‘Addams Family Values.’ Her favorite part was when Wednesday sabotaged the play and burned down the thanksgiving set.

Happy Thanksgiving, my loves! I promise to be posting the next chapter of HLG this coming week. Everything has just been so hectic! But it will be up soon! Thank you for your patience and love. See you in the next one! 🫶🏼

One Missed Call
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
➪the one where bradley hasn’t won a match since you left him, and he finally decides to break his promise to himself.
Warnings: boxer bradley, mentions of blood, mentions of injuries, descriptions of injuries, mentions of fighting, swearing, bradley is kind of a dick in this ngl, angst all the way, could have another part if i get inspired (just watched bleed for this and i need an outlet), probably the quickest piece i have ever written, so sorry if it sucks
Word Count: 2k | Part 2
Do not repost this anywhere, reblogs are fine ♡
“Six time champ, Bradley Bradshaw, faces his fifth loss since getting back into the ring,”
That single sentence played on repeat in Bradley’s head as he sat on the couch of his living room.
His best friend rushed around him as she tried her best to patch up the mess his opponent made of his face an hour or so ago. Her hands held multiple blood stained towels and her face was twisted up in concern, but he didn’t pay her any attention as he watched himself get the shit beaten out of him on the TV screen.
“You shouldn’t be watching that right now,” she muttered as she wiped away a fresh stream of blood rather roughly. He winced, his mind instantly comparing her harshness to the way you used to clean him up much more gently. And now he was thinking about you again, and how fucking disappointed he made you. “You might have a concussion, and the screen will fuck with your eyes.”
He grunted as she stuck a white bandaid on his left temple. “Enough, Nat,” he grunted, gently pushing her hands away from his face. “I’m fine.”
She glared at him as she stood to her full height. “You’re fine? Bradley, you haven’t been fine since Y/n left. You haven’t won a match in months. And you think you’re fine?”
He narrowed his eyes at her, a scoff leaving his mouth afterwards. “Whatever, mom,”
Nat laughed humorlessly as she tossed the towels onto the coffee table in front of him. “Okay,” she muttered, grabbing her bag and bending down to press a harsh kiss to the bruise that formed on his cheek. “Let me know when you locate the guy who isn’t a grumpy prick. That’s the version of you we all miss. I’ll text you tomorrow, if I feel like it.” They both knew she would, whether she felt like it or not.
And then she left and Bradley was refraining from throwing the remote directly at the TV screen. His face ached beyond belief, and he knew the trash talking he did in between punches did not help his case as that guy really did a number on him.
In a way, he felt like he deserved to feel more pain than he did right now. He knew this was nothing compared to the amount of pain he put you through, and he wanted himself to hurt just as bad.
He watched himself take the final punch of the night that had him down on the mat within seconds, and how Hansen Carpenter lifted his hand in victory and grinned as if he won the lottery.
Congrats, man. You beat Bradley Bradshaw. You’re not the first, and you won’t be the last, so take a fucking chill pill.
Bradley scoffed again and turned the TV off, tossing the remote aside and leaning back against the couch. As he sat in the quiet house, his mind betrayed him as he began to think about you again.
How he had managed to fuck up the best thing in his life, he’d never know.
You really were the only thing he had going for him other than his career and title, and he let you go without a fight. It was his fucking job to fight, yet he couldn’t even do it for you.
The house felt empty, even though you had only been living with him - officially - for about three months before he broke up with you. Despite being with you for nearly five years, you hadn’t decided to move in together until around half a year ago.
You practically lived with him, anyway, but it was official for only a few months before he let himself get too caught up in his own head, which later resulted in him taking it out on you.
Really, he was a coward. He never jumped at the countless opportunities he had with you, and instead put all his focus on boxing.
Oh, there was a high chance he could win within the first five rounds? Sign him up.
Someone was betting half a million dollars on him? Tell him a time and place.
You wanted to take the next step and put a downpayment on a house together? Maybe sometime within the next few years or so.
He really didn’t deserve you, and it was a wonder how you put up with him for half a decade.
Bradley looked down at his phone that was on the couch beside him, and without thinking much of it, he grabbed it and held it between his sore fingers. He didn’t need to scroll far to find your number since he hadn’t changed you from his top contact yet, and he probably never would.
When you walked out and left him in this exact room all those months ago, Bradley promised himself that he wouldn’t call you or try to win you back. If you couldn’t understand him and his career choice, then you clearly weren’t the right girl for him.
But he knew you were. You are the right girl for him, but he was too hung up on his own ego to actually try to get you back. And now he feared he was too late.
He was already feeling embarrassed, so why not go all the way?
He clicked on the call button and brought his phone up to his ear, waiting what felt like a lifetime before he was forwarded to your inbox.
Of course he got your voicemail. He wasn’t expecting you to actually answer him, so he wasn’t super disappointed that he was met with your sweet voice asking him to leave you a message.
And, God, was your voice sweet. It was probably the sweetest sound he had ever heard in his entire life, and it matched well with your overall personality. You were far too kind for your own good, and had been way too understanding with him throughout your relationship.
Though he really wanted to, he couldn’t blame you for leaving, especially since he practically forced you out the door.
Bradley looked ahead at his beaten and bruised face through the screen of the TV, and he felt as pathetic and worn out as he looked. “Y/n,” he mumbled after he heard the obnoxious beep that indicated he should probably start talking before the call hung up itself. What did he have to lose? “I miss you, babygirl.”
He had no right to be calling you right now, nor did he have the right to be saying that he misses you when he’s the reason you’re gone.
But he was selfish. He always had been when it came to you.
He wanted you to support him and didn’t care much for your concerns about his well being. He wanted you there and in his corner at every single match and wasn’t fazed by the way you cowered away every time he took a punch. He wanted you all to himself, but never gave you the time of day when he really needed to get his act together and progress his relationship with you.
Bradley was selfish before you, while he was with you, and now after you.
You were right. He will never change.
“I fucked up tonight, again,” he muttered as he looked down at the blood stained towels in front of him. His mouth tasted like metal and he could smell the rustic scent of copper every time he inhaled, and he truly could not believe how much of a mess he is. “I really thought I could win this one, but you know how I talk out of my ass whenever I’m in that ring, and I did it tonight.”
He wasn’t sure what he was hoping to get out of this, but the thought of you maybe listening to it was what had him continuing this embarrassing show of emotions.
“I told this Hansen guy that he fights like my old man, and how he’s dead, and then I got my ass handed to me,” he grunted, rubbing his sore nose and wincing at the sharp pain he felt because of it. “It was going fine before that. I went eight rounds straight with the guy before he fucking floored me, and all it took was me thinking about you.”
He felt like a complete loser for admitting this, but it also felt easier to be open with himself when it came to you. It had always been like that, and he was fucking stupid for thinking he could find someone better than you.
Truly, there was no one else he wanted other than you, and he’s known that pretty much since the day he met you, so why couldn’t he swallow his pride and fight for you instead of with you was another thing he’d never know.
“One single thought about you and I got too into my own head to realize what was going on around me,” he shamelessly informed you of the hold you still had, and probably will always have, over him. “I think about you all the time, baby. All the fucking time. You should’ve been there tonight. You should’ve been there last time. You should be here right now. But I know why you’re not.”
His face burned from both the impacts of Hansen’s gloves and from the way he was getting caught up in the thought of you.
Everything reminded him of you. Even this exact couch held far too many memories with you to count. The amount of nights he spent with you on these very cushions had him shifting uncomfortably as he tried to push away those thoughts.
He didn’t even deserve to be talking to you right now, let alone thinking about all the ways he’s gotten you off on this old and worn out piece of furniture. “I know it’s my own fucking fault, I know that, but it still fucking hurts,” he laughed and pressed his arm against his abs that were just as sore as his face. “The amount of fights I’ve been in, the amount of hits I’ve taken, none of them compare to how much it hurt to lose you. How much it still hurts.”
While he wasn’t one to cry at all, Bradley felt his eyes beginning to burn as he replayed the exact moment you left him, as well as the exact words he said to you.
“I know what I told you, okay? I know what I said. I was wrong, babygirl,” he rasped, curling in on himself as he tried to find the right words to say. “I didn’t mean it. I should have never told you to leave. I should have never yelled at you. I feel so bad, baby, all the time.”
He moved to lay on his side, his cheek pressing against the armrest a bit uncomfortably, but he didn’t care. This was the first time he allowed himself to really get it all out since breaking up with you, and he hated how he couldn’t find the courage to actually say all of this to you in person. Not that you’d let him, anyway.
“I want you back, Y/n,” he finally admitted to what he’s been too full of himself to say out loud. “I want you so bad. You were my girl, baby. You were so good to me, and I fucked it up. I miss you so much, and I promise you I’ll do better. I’ll be better for you, I swear, just please…come back to me.”
He ended the call after that and tossed his phone onto the table next to the towels he would definitely have to throw out since no amount of cold water and bleach could save them.
Bradley felt beyond pathetic now, but it was nothing compared to the feeling that took over his body when he woke up the next morning, still on the couch, and with a single notification on his phone.

☕️ bradley ‘rooster’ bradshaw and "you know we need to talk." "about?" "i don't know...last night, maybe?"
bradley "rooster" bradshaw x mitchell!reader, mentions of vomiting, mentions of pregnancy, 1.9k
You shouldn’t have been here at Rooster’s place at this time of night. You should’ve been asleep, in bed, but instead you were here, knocking on his door in the middle of the night, all because you’d just discovered something not even two hours ago that would change the trajectory of not only your life, but probably Rooster’s too.
It took a while, but he finally pulled open the door after your incessant knocking, rubbing his eye furiously as he peered out at who the hell was knocking on his door at three in the morning.
His hair was a riot, brown curls sticking out every which way, eyes bleary. He’d been asleep—of course he was. Anyone in their right mind would be. Except you weren’t really in your right mind right now. You were damn near close to losing it, trying your hardest not to spiral.
“Y/N? What are you—why are you awake? What’re you doing here?” He yawned, scratching his chest groggily. When you didn’t answer, just stared at him like something was wrong, he gave his head a quick shake to wake himself up a bit. “Are you okay? What—come in, come inside, please.”
You obliged, stepping past him and over the threshold into his apartment wordlessly.
“Can I make you some coffee—no, coffee would probably be bad right now. Tea? Water?” He offered, gesturing you towards the kitchen. You settled at one of the barstools in front of the counter, leaning on your elbows, folding your hands. “Not really sure what this situation calls for. Seriously, are you okay? You look…not okay.”
“I’m pregnant.” You blurted. Well, there went easing into the conversation. Bradley’s eyebrows flew sky high. But wait, there was more! “And I’m pretty sure you’re the father.”
He blinked at you owlishly, utterly and completely dumbfounded. “Pretty sure? How sure is pretty sure?”
“Entirely sure, actually. You’re the only guy I’ve been with in a really long time, so either it was a ghost, or it was you.”
That was something you’d been wracking your brain for since the second you saw the three lines on the test. One night, four or five weeks ago, after some sort of celebration at the Hard Deck that you couldn’t even remember now.
You remembered leaving the bar with Rooster, taking him home with you, kissing him a lot. It was entirely consensual, that much you could recall. But anything after that up until when you’d first started to feel icky was a blank.
You honestly didn’t even consider the possibility that you were in fact pregnant until your friend suggested it yesterday. Which is why you took the test. Never did you once think it would turn out positive.
It wasn’t that you didn’t think Rooster would be a good father. In fact, out of everyone you’d hooked up with over the years, he was probably the best option. Not that you really had any option, at this point. It was simple, plain as day. You were pregnant, and Rooster was the father.
Rooster made a face. “Okay, gross. But you took a test? And it was positive?”
“No, it came to me in a dream.” You snapped, glaring at him. “Yes, I took a test! I took three—all positive!”
“Alright! Okay, that’s—wow, okay. That’s definitely…something to take in.”
“I don’t know what to do.” You said quietly, staring hard at the marble countertop.
“Look, it’s late, we’re both tired. We don’t have to do anything right now, we don’t need to make any decisions right now. We have time.” He replied, shaking his head. We. He kept saying we, like he was planning on sticking around. You weren’t sure how to feel about it. “Why don’t you stay the night here and we can talk about this more in the morning?”
You shook your head quickly. “No, I can’t, I have to be home to set up for the party—oh my god, the party! My dad.”
“Your dad? What—Y/N, I’m pretty sure he’ll understand. Mav’s more modern than you give him credit for.”
“Understand? Understand what?” You asked incredulously. Then you got what he was trying to say, and you let out a humorless laugh. “Rooster, we’re not telling him. We can’t tell him!”
Your dad’s birthday party was tomorrow, and there were so many things you had to set up and do, this was probably the worst time for you to deal with everything going on right now. It wasn’t every day Pete “Maverick” Mitchell turned sixty. You needed everything to be perfect, and this brand new unexpected news was definitely not that.
Rooster could tell you were starting to panic a little from the weight of everything, so he just went along with what you said, reaching over the counter to cover your hand with his. “Everything is gonna be fine, okay? Just get some rest. Please. Tomorrow’s gonna be a busy day, and you need to sleep.”
You nodded distractedly, barely registering him guiding you towards the guest bedroom and settling you into bed. And maybe you were more tired than you thought, because your eyes fell shut on their own accord, and you were out like a light before Rooster even had the chance to close the door behind him.
-------
The party was going great so far. There was food, music, all your dad’s Navy buddies. Everything was running smoothly, and you definitely weren’t thinking about your conversation with Rooster last night, or the fact that you left his house before the sun even rose to avoid talking about the situation even more.
That was a lie. You couldn’t stop thinking of it, even as you smiled at every one of your dad’s friends jostling him about how old he’d gotten to be completely unaware of the surprise party his daughter planned for him.
With every conversation about what you’d been up to in life lately, you thought about Rooster. The look on his face when you broke the news to him. The way he must’ve felt when he woke up and you were gone. He was probably mad at you, and you honestly couldn’t blame him.
Like he knew it was him on your mind, Rooster materialized next to you, busying himself with browsing the drinks in the cooler to make it look like everything was normal. “Y/N.”
“Enjoying the party?” You asked casually, crossing your arms over your chest. Rooster scoffed softly.
“You know we need to talk.”
Your smile wavered for a split second before returning in full force. You glanced over at him briefly, flicking from his very serious face then back to the party. “About?”
“I don’t know…last night, maybe? You left before I woke up.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Bullshit.”
“Nothing happened last night, Rooster.”
“So you’re telling me you’re not pregnant right now.”
“Keep your voice down.” You hissed. Rooster shot a pointed look at you and you caved, grabbing him by the arm and yanking him towards a more secluded area of the backyard. “You wanna talk? Fine. Talk.”
“You said the baby was mine. That’s not just something I can forget, Y/N.”
“And I’m not asking you to forget, I’m asking you to leave it alone for now. It’s my dad’s birthday, Bradshaw. Can’t we just let him have the day before we blow up his entire world?”
“Okay. Yeah, that’s fine. Dropping it for now.” Rooster conceded, holding his hands up in surrender. In reality, all he wanted to do was figure things out, but he could admit that this wasn’t quite the best place nor time to do it. “What can I do to help you right now?”
“I think I’m gonna be sick.”
“Whoa, hey, I’m sorry, okay? I didn’t mean to stress you out any more, I just—”
“No, Rooster, Im—” You felt the bile rising in your throat alarmingly quick, and before you could even your sentence, you scrambled for the nearest bush to throw up.
“Oh shit!” Rooster lunged forward, gathering your hair out of your face back towards the nape of your neck as you let it all out. You felt the warmth of his hand on your back, rubbing smooth circles along your spine.
“Fuck.” You groaned, bracing your hands on your knees. “Please tell me no one saw that.”
“Uh…” Rooster’s voice was hesitant and you turned your head, only to be met with the one person you didn’t want seeing you like this. Just your luck that even up there in age, that Navy instilled situational awareness never faded.
“Honey? You alright?” Your dad looked beyond worried, and before you knew it, you were sat down on the living room couch with your father fussing over you, fluffing your pillows, covering you with a blanket, the works. Rooster was hovering over in the corner.
“Dad, I’m fine! I probably had some bad oysters or something at girls’ night yesterday.” You sighed, ducking away from his attempt at feeling your forehead. As much as you didn’t enjoy lying straight to his face, telling him it was most likely a pregnancy symptom was definitely out of the question. “Go back, enjoy your party, please.”
“I should really stay, what if—”
“I’m in good hands, Dad. Rooster’s got me covered.”
“I’ll take the best care of her, Mav, don’t you worry.”
“No doubt in my mind you will.” He clapped Rooster on the shoulder, giving him a sharp nod. He turned to you. “Drink something. Eat something. I’ll check back in later. Love you, sweetheart.”
“Love you too, Dad.”
After waving everybody back to the festivities with assurances that you just needed to lay down for a bit and would be just fine, Rooster reappeared in the doorway a little while later, this time bearing gifts.
“Crackers and ginger ale. Eat them, they’ll help.” He insisted, letting you take the plastic cup from him. “Stole them from the cooler and snack table. Who knew an old man’s birthday party would have just what I was looking for?”
You managed a meager smile, but when you took a tiny sip of the soda, you found that it actually did help a bit. “How’d you know what I needed?”
Rooster rubbed the back of his neck, pressing his lips together with a haphazard shrug. “My mom. When she got sick, they always seemed to help with the nausea. Made sure we were always stocked and ready for whenever she needed it.”
“I wanna keep the baby, Rooster.” You blurted. Rooster nearly choked on his own saliva in surprise.
“You—you do?”
“And I want you to be there every step of the way.” You continued, fidgeting with the stray thread at the edge of your blanket. He took a seat next to you on the couch, rubbing his hands over his legs nervously. “Only if that’s what you want, though. I’m not trying to force your hand or baby trap or anything like that. It’s your choice, completely. But…I’d like it if our kid knew their father. In whatever capacity you’re comfortable with.”
“So, like co-parents? Or…more?” Rooster said slowly, gauging your reaction with wide, almost nervous eyes.
“I’m open to more.” You replied. Maybe you were reading too much into it, but he seemed to look very pleased with that. “I don’t know what this is gonna be like, for either of us, but I like to think we’ll get through it all. Together.”
He nodded, sliding his hand into yours and squeezing. “Together.”  What that together entailed, you weren’t all too sure. And although you were nervous as hell about what laid ahead, you were looking forward to finding out.

You giggled as your boyfriend pulled you into his apartment. You took note of the large, plastic tarp that was draped across his living room floor. The furniture was pushed off to the side to make room, and two, large pumpkins sat on opposite ends of the tarp surrounded by various carving tools.
“What’s all this, bubba?” You asked him, turning to look up at him. Bradley smirked down at you, leaning in to press a kiss to your lips.
“Thought we could have some fun carving pumpkins,” he mumbled against your lips. You hummed, reaching up to wrap your arms around his neck. Bradley slid his hands down your sides, resting them on your rear, squeezing gently. You gasped into the kiss, allowing Bradley to slip his tongue into your mouth, licking at you eagerly. Your fingers ran through his chestnut locks, pulling lightly, and Bradley groaned, breaking the kiss to look at you. His cheeks were red, lips swollen from the kiss. After three years of dating, you still got butterflies from seeing him like this.
“I asked you to come over for a reason,” he scowled at you.
“You’re the one who kissed me,” you teased. Bradley placed a small slap to your ass, earning a squeak as he pulled away. He chuckled, pulling you further into his apartment and onto the tarp.
“What’s the plan, Stan?” You asked him, earning a look which made you let out another giggle. He rolled his eyes, but smiled softly as he looked at you.
“Jake told me about this trend going around,” he started. Your brow shot up.
“Since when do you listen to Jake?” You laughed. He scowled at you, gesturing for you to sit down on the ground. You did so, crossing your legs.
“So, he told me about this trend,” Bradley continued, “where people compete to see who can carve the best pumpkin.”
“Okay,” you nodded. “How does it work?”
“We’re going to sit here, facing away from each other, and we can’t look at what the other is carving until we’re both finished.”
“I don’t know, babe,” you smirked. “I’ve carved a lot of pumpkins. How many have you carved?”
“I’ve carved plenty of pumpkins,” he scoffed at you, and you raised an eyebrow.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen you carve one.”
“Is this you saying you’re too scared that I’ll win?” He teased, a grin on his lips. It was your turn to scoff.
“You wish, Bradshaw,” you chuckled, moving to turn around to face your pumpkin. “I’m so winning this competition.”
“Yeah, we’ll just see about that,” Bradley smirked, turning to face his own pumpkin. “Remember, no peaking! I don’t need you cheating off of me.”
“I think that’s my line, Bubs.”
About forty-five minutes later, you were staring proudly at your simple, but classic, design. The pumpkin stared back at you with its toothy grin, and you were all but assured in your victory. Bradley could barely draw a stick figure, so you weren’t sure what possessed him to think that he would win a pumpkin carving contest against you. You cast a sly glance over your shoulder, eyeing the expanse of your boyfriend’s broad back. You smiled gently, hoping with everything in you that you would get to see it for the rest of your life.
It was no secret that you and Bradley were madly in love, and you had known early on into the relationship that he was it for you. Bradley made no secrets about feeling the same, but whenever someone asked when he would pop that most important question, he would shrug, a lazy smile on his face as he said, “we don’t want to rush things. We’re happy with how things are, right, babe?”
And you were, for the most part. But you couldn’t help but wish for the day you would get to wear a beautiful, white dress as you walked down the aisle to pledge the rest of your life to the man at your side.
Bradley peeked over his shoulder at you, and you quickly turned around, trying to hide your smirk at having been caught.
“I thought I said no peeking?” He rasped, his breath fanning over your cheek. You opened your mouth to respond, but let out a squawk as you felt the slimy entrails from his pumpkin hit your cheek. You turned to give an incredulous look to your boyfriend who was already watching you with a shit eating grin.
“Bradley Bradshaw, you did not-”
He raised his hand to smear another glob of pumpkin guts onto your other cheek, laughing as you fought between the need to laugh and the need to strangle him. Bradley let out a giggle at the sight of you, one that melted into a gasp as you took your own handful of pumpkin and smeared it across his face.
“Oh, now you’re in for it!” He laughed, scooping up even more entrails as he moved to stand. You shrieked as you attempted to dodge him, scrambling to your feet in the process.
“Bradley, no!” You hollered through fits of laughter. Bradley wrestled you to the ground, smearing the entrails on your face and hair. When you thought you would pass out from lack of oxygen due to all of your laughter, Bradley pulled back, inspecting his work. You were sure you looked a mess, feeling all of the pumpkin guts sticking to your skin and matting your hair. He gazed down at you softly as you fought to breathe through your giggles.
Bradley leaned down, placing a gentle kiss to your forehead before moving to your cheeks and finally placing one on your lips.
“I love you,” he murmured. You felt heat rise to your face, and you placed a hand to his cheeks.
“I love you too, Bradley,” you whispered. The two of you stared at one another for a moment before you moved to stand. Bradley pulled away to allow you space, offering you his hand as you both stood. You took it with a grateful smile, looking over to where his pumpkin sat.
“Alright,” you smirked, wiggling your eyebrows. “Let’s see who won this thing.”
Bradley chuckled, gesturing for you to go and take a look. You took the few steps around him, peering down at the gourd. Etched clumsily into the outside were the words “will you be my boo?” You giggled at the pun, and wondered where your boyfriend even came up with it. Bradley wasn’t the most creative, but what he lacked in imagination, he certainly made up for in effort. It was one of the many things you admired about him.
“I dunno, babe,” you smiled, turning around to face him. “I think I won the-”
You sucked in a breath of air at the sight before you. Bradley was kneeling down on one knee, a ring in his hands. The ring was simple, but beautiful, and you felt the tears in your eyes before you could stop them.
“Y/n,” Bradley rasped, his own tears gathering on his lash line. “You are without a doubt, the most beautiful, smart, amazing woman I have ever met. I don’t know how I managed to get you to agree to become my girlfriend all those years ago, but now I’m hoping I can somehow convince you to become my wife instead. I love you so, so much it hurts. Will you marry me?”
A sob tore its way from your throat as you nodded vigorously, reaching out for him. Bradley stood up, pulling you into his arms, hugging you tightly. This is where you belonged. You knew because you fit perfectly in his arms, and you never wanted to leave.
“Yes, Bradley,” you sniffled, looking up at him. “A thousand times yes.”
Bradley grinned down at you so widely you were sure his cheeks hurt. He slipped the ring onto your finger and leaned down to place a passionate kiss to your lips, one you returned with vigor.
“It’s not much,” he said, pulling away to look down at where the ring rested on your finger, stroking over it gently. “But, I hope it’s enough.”
“Oh, Bradley,” you sighed, leaning your head against his chest. “It’s perfect in every way.”

“Bradley,” you laughed as he firmly pressed his lips to your neck, nuzzling into you. His mustache tickled your sensitive skin as he kissed you and you could practically feel him grinning against your skin.
“What?” He said as he turned his head to meet your gaze, his eyes feigning innocence as he looked at you, a smirk forming on his lips. Bradley grinned as he kissed at your neck again, his lips leaving a trail of soft, wet kisses along your skin as his hand made its way to your waist, pulling you in closer to his body.
“You know exactly what, Lieutenant Bradshaw,” you smirked as you bit down on your plump bottom lip to stifle a moan of pleasure that was threatening to escape your mouth.
“Fuck, I love it when you call me that, babe,” Bradley grinned again as he pulled your body in as close as you physically could be to him, his hands now wandering from your waist to the button on your jeans, “You know, I can never seem to get enough of you? You drive me crazy.” He laughed softly, shaking his head as he ducked his head down, pressing his lips to your exposed collarbone, sucking gently on your skin.
“Bradley, stop teasing, I have to finish getting ready,” you said in a half-assed protest as his lips continued to nip at your collarbone. You inhaled sharply as you felt him slip his hand down the front of your jeans, his fingers gently toying with your underwear. He knew exactly what he was doing to you, and he wasn’t about to let a football watch party at The Hard Deck with your friends stop him.
“We’ll just show up late, no big deal,” His voice was like velvet as he tried to persuade you, sliding your underwear to the side as he ran two of his fingers along your slit. “Besides, you look perfect just like this,” he grinned at you as he dragged his fingers back and forth over your opening, fully enjoying just how badly you wanted him.
Before you could come back with a retort of your own to him, Bradley pushed his fingers into your core, curving them slightly to hit exactly where you wanted him. You let out a moan as you felt his touch, his lips curling upwards into a devilish smile as he began pumping them in and out of your core.
“You like that? You like when I play with you like this, beautiful?” He hummed as he leaned in to kiss your neck again, that same smirk permanently on his face as he listened to you enjoy every moment of this.
“Bradley, fuck,” was about all you could manage to get out.
“You look so pretty like this babe, absolutely perfect.” He practically cooed into your ear as he continued thrusting his fingers into you, feeling your core squeeze them with every movement. Bradley leaned in to press his lips to yours in a hungry, passionate kiss, biting down on your bottom lip ever so slightly as he pulled away. He pulled his fingers away from you, causing you to let out a whine in their absence. With one swift motion, he tugged your jeans and underwear down, pooling them at your ankles. Bradley got on his knees and grinned up at you.
“I can never get enough of how you taste,” He smirked as he shifted his body, tapping your leg as he kissed at your throbbing clit, signaling for you to move your feet apart to make room for him.
Bradley licked a long, slow strip up your slit, you could feel him groaning against your skin as he did. He was a man on a mission at this point, and if there was one thing you’d learned about him, it was that he never left anything unfinished. You felt him leaving kisses on your clit, which alone was almost enough to make you scream his name, and as you let out another whining moan, you felt Bradley’s lips vibrate against you as he moaned into your clit. His tongue went to work overtime on you, a combination of licking and sucking, as if he’d been waiting years to do this to you, despite the fact that it was an at least twice a week occurrence when he was home.
“Bradley, I’m so close,” you moaned out at a volume that made you thankful that your house didn’t have neighbors within close range.  As if your words flipped a switch, Bradley began thrusting his tongue into you, hard and fast as his fingers gripped your thighs tightly to hold you steady. He loved to please you in any way he could, but this, this was his favorite way.
A flurry of curse words strung along with his name left your mouth as you reached your breaking point. Bradley slowly dragged his tongue along your dripping wet folds as you came down off of your climax. As he pulled away, you felt your body aching for him, your face red and cheeks hot from the pleasure you’d just experienced, the two of you breathless. Bradley laughed softly when he saw the look on your face as he reached over to grab a washcloth from the edge of the sink to wipe his face with. He smirked at you as he pulled your bottoms back up for you before standing up, his hazel eyes clearly telling you exactly what he wanted.
“You know, I think we better get going to this football party, baby. Then tonight, we can pick up where we left off.”

Tumblr media
It had been 6 months since your ex had been sent to jail and as far as you knew he was still in there. You had tried to get back into the dating scene but each time you would freak out and cancel. Jake and Javy had always been there for you and they were there when you called crying in the middle of the night. There was one person however you had been becoming closer to as time went on. Who is that person? It’s none other than Bradley Bradshaw.
Bradley was the most protective of you that night and when you come into The Hard Deck that night and you went quiet, he knew something was wrong. He wasn’t going to lie, when you took your hoodie and the makeup smeared, he saw red. When they grabbed him and took him outside, he was furious. When Javy threw the first punch, he was glad but he needed to let his anger out and he was the one throwing more punches out of all of them. Since Bradley first laid eyes on you, you had caught his attention and he couldn’t help but become protected of you. Originally when he found you were friends with Jake, he thought it would be a great way to get under Jake’s skin but once he got to you know he had abandoned that idea and wanted to get to know you and eventually become a couple.
When you saw Bradley for the first time, you didn’t know what to think sure he was attractive and you wanted to know him more but you were too scared to due to dating Tony. Bradley was so sweet to you and you wanted nothing more to break up with your no good, now, ex-boyfriend and get with him but you stopped yourself and buried it. When they came back in from the fight and being questioned by the police you saw how his knuckles were the most bruised and roughed up. Jake and Javy’s were too but not like Bradley’s.
Ever since the event at The Hard Deck, Bradley had been more attentive to you and doing things for you even if you didn’t know you need it. It started out with simple things like him letting you borrow one of his pens during class when yours had suddenly run out of ink. He had also started to sit closer to you during lectures or walked you to your jet when you had to go up with him. He had also come over to your house with Jake and Javy to install a security system and alarms on the windows as well as changing the locks out. Bradley had also been checking up on you since the incident and it had gotten to the point where you were expecting and looking forward to hearing his voice or seeing his name pop up on your phone.
Whenever nightmares would arise you had been dialing his number and crying on the phone and then he would be over there comforting you. Jake would be called to but you would just tell him that Bradley was over but you wanted to let him know that you were ok. Jake didn’t know how to feel about you two becoming closer with each other. He knew Bradley wouldn’t hurt you but that didn’t stop him from worrying and becoming a big brother that he had titled himself one night at the academy, you were ok with that having been the only child and your parents weren’t the greatest it was nice to turn to someone you trusted. One night it was particularly bad. You had woken up in a panic thinking that Tony was back and out for revenge. You had woken in a cold sweat and labored breathing; you blindly grabbed your phone and called the only other number that you had memorized besides Jake’s and Javy’s.
“Bradley?” You asked in a shaky voice when the call went through.
“Y/N/N? What’s wrong?” Bradley asked taking in your shaky voice and it sounded like you woke him up.
“I woke you up. I’m sorry. Go back to sleep.” You said and were about to end the call but he stopped you.
“No, it’s ok. I would drop anything for you. What’s going on?” He asked and you could hear rustling as he sat up in bed.
“It was really bad. He came back.” Is all you said to him panic started to return to you.
“Who came back?” He asked and you started to sniffle and it was concerning Bradley “Storm?” He asked using your callsign.
“Tony.” Is all you said and he sighed and what you couldn’t see was him close his eyes and jaw clench. Your ex had you so scared that nightmares were forming.
“I’ll be over in a few.” He said and you shook your head.
“No, you don’t have to. Go back to sleep.” You said feeling guilty for waking him up.
“Storm, I’m coming over. I don’t want you alone right now.” He said and you nodded.
“Ok.” You said “Thank you.” You added you wanted to say ‘I love you’ but stopped yourself. You thought that nobody would love you after what you had been through but you were so wrong.
“You’re welcome, Storm. I’m always going to look out for you. I’ll see you in a few.” He said and then hung up the phone.
True to his word. Bradley was knocking on your door and you very eagerly went downstairs and opening the door and into his arms pressing your face into his chest, which he wrapped his arms around you and hugged you back and pressing his face into your hair. “It’s ok. I got you.” He said and you just melted into his touch. “Do you want to talk about it?” He asked and he felt you shake your head. “Do you want to go back to bed and cuddle?” He asked and felt you nod your head. You pulled away and led the way and when you reached your room you actually took in his appearance and he was in sweatpants and a t-shirt and his hair looked like he just rolled out of bed, which he did.
You climbed into bed and he followed suit. You both didn’t say word you scooted back into him and he wrapped his arms around and you slowly drifted off to sleep. He stayed awake until he felt your breathing even out. He loved you he really did “I love you.” He said once he knew you were asleep and kissed the back of your head and drifted off to sleep himself. It was the best night’s sleep you had gotten and you actually got to feel the loved touch of a man and not the harshness.

The next morning you woke up early, too early to be getting up, to a warm comforting weight around you. You heard slight snoring and was about to freak out but then remembered what had happened and relaxed. You fell back to sleep until your alarm was going off. The weight was gone and you wondered why until the smell of pancakes and bacon rose up to your bedroom. You lazily got up and walked down to see Bradley in the kitchen cooking breakfast you smiled and walked over to him and hugged him from behind and he smiled. “Good morning. I thought that I would make you some breakfast before heading to the beach with the rest of The Daggers.” He said as he turned the stove off and then turned around and took you in his arms.
“That sounds amazing.” He said and then you did something that shocked both of you. You leaned up and kissed him and again to both of your surprise he kissed back. You both only pulled away when air was needed. “I’m sorry.” You said and began to pull away but he pulled you back and crashed his lips into yours. You both pulled way again for air.
“You don’t have to apologize. I’ve been wanting to do that for a while.” He said looking at you.
“I have too. I just never had the guts. Tony-“ He stopped you.
“Tony is in jail and can’t hurt you. He’s an asshole and can rot in jail. I’m here now. We can take this as slow as you want. I’m gonna teach you how a man is supposed to treat a woman and I’m gonna teach you to love again.” He said and your eyes welled up with tears and you hugged him tightly.
“Thank you so much.” You said and he just hugged you tighter. Breakfast was eaten and small talk was made. Then you were getting ready for the beach and then heading to his house for him to get ready. Once all that was done you headed to the beach. When you got there you both got out and he grabbed your hand and looked down at you smiling and you smiled back, this is what you had wanted all along.

Jake had heard the Bronco pull up and looked up and saw Bradley and then looked over in the passenger side seat and saw you sitting there, he didn’t know how to feel about that but deep down he knew that Bradley would take care of you unlike that shitting ex of yours. He watched you walk hand in hand over to the group. You both greeted everyone and then Natasha was stealing you away because she too had noticed the hand holding and had a smirk on her face and you could see her trying not to squeal. Everyone had decided to play dog fight football and the others had gone over to the two of you but Jake held Bradley back.
“Don’t hurt her.” He told Bradley sternly and he looked at Jake.
“I would never do that.” Bradley said
“I’ve been with her from the beginning of everything especially Tony. I’ve seen the emotional and physical damage to her. She’s fragile.” Jake said and Bradley could see on his face that he was not playing around.
“Jake, I know she’s like a sister to you and Javy. I’ve seen the shit that Tony put her through. I love her so much. I was ready to kill Tony for her, my career be damned if it meant that it would protect her. I’m not letting her go or down. My mom and dad would kill me if I ever laid a threating hand on her. Mom didn’t raise me that way.” Bradley said and Jake nodded his head.
“I know which is why I trust you to be with her. If you dare lay a hand on her or break her heart. If she comes crying to me or tells me you did, and she will. I will make your life a living hell.” Jake said looking Bradley directly in the eye.
“You can count on me Jake. I’m not letting anything happen to her. I love her too much.” He said and Jake nodded again “We better get over there.” He added and began walking over to the rest. Jake watched him and when Bradley got there, he grabbed your face and kissed you and you wrapped you arms around his torso. Jake knew right then and there that Bradley was going to take care of you and help you learn to love again. Javy looked back at Jake and nodded and Jake nodded back both of them having a silent agreement that Bradley was the right person for you. They hadn’t seen you happy in a long time until you met Bradley.
Bradley was teaching you to love again and you were ok with it especially if it was from him.  With him, everything was perfect and nothing could harm you and if something did Bradley was there taking care of you. You had a feeling this was going to be the relationship that was going to last and you were looking forward to it.
