4 Mistakes To Avoid When Hiring Movers In Bristol
Nowadays most of the people avoid taking the stress of relocation and hire movers. The efficient movers are perfect to take care of your valuable goods while shifting from one location to another. Their priority is to provide you service as per your requirement so it is effective hiring them. One of the main reasons for hiring professional movers available in your locality are they use quality materials for packing which reduces the risk of damage. Still while hiring, you need to be a bit careful because every service provider does not deliver satisfactory service. There are some common mistakes that often people commit at the time of hiring a moving company. Here they are mentioned below, try to avoid them.
Tumblr media
1. It is true that movers are very experienced and careful while packing, loading and unloading things. They assure that there won’t be any damage to your belongings and for that they take all the precaution. An accident can happen anytime, maybe during the transit. You should stay prepared for any situation beforehand rather than regret later. Doing insurance for each product is not possible. This is why you need to hire an insured company that will cover the cost of any damage.
2. Many service providers are there who will first quote you a reasonable amount and at the end of their duty charge extra apart from that, showing varied reasons. These are called hidden charges which you need to make sure in the first place that they do not have any. A certified removal company will definitely not have any hidden charges and you need to find one. It may take some time but will save your money and you will receive outstanding service.
3. Do you know what the exact charge of the relocation at present is? If you do not have a clear idea then you should not stick to one option as the particular company can charge a huge amount from you. Before hiring, you must take quotes from three to four providers around. It will help you hire a removal company in Bristol that charges an affordable price.
4. Time is an essential factor and you may want the relocation to be completed as soon as possible. Movers should provide a prompt service thus make sure you are hiring trained and experienced ones. Untrained movers will not be able to deliver you quick and quality service.
So, these are the mistakes that often people make while hiring a moving company and it is expected you won’t from now onwards.

On this day, 7 June 2020, Black Lives Matter protesters in Bristol, UK, pulled down a statue of enslaver Edward Colston and threw it into Bristol Harbour. Colston was a wealthy trader of enslaved people, whose company transported more than 100,000 people who were abducted from West Africa and enslaved in the 17th century. Those kidnapped were branded with the initials of Colston's company, RAC. Four people, Sage Willoughby, Rhian Graham, Milo Ponsford and Jake Skuse, were subsequently arrested and charged with criminal damage for their role in the removal of the statue. In the dock, Willoughby argued that having a statue honouring Colston would be like "having a Hitler statue in front of a Holocaust survivor". All four defendants were acquitted by the jury. Willoughby subsequently responded to those who argue that removing statues is trying to change history, stating: "We didn't change history, we rectified it". In the summer of 2020, [...] Black Lives Matter protesters tore a statue of 17th-century slave trader Edward Colston from its plinth in the centre of Bristol and rolled it into the harbour. [...] [C]ritics [...] argued that this type of direct action was “erasing history”. Britain’s prime minister at the time, Boris Johnson, claimed that to remove statues of figures like Colston from the public square was “to lie about our history”. Sir Trevor Phillips complained that Britain’s public history was being “erased entirely” [...]. Yet rather than lead us into an era of collective forgetting, the tearing down of Colston’s statue transported his name – and deeds – into the public consciousness.
This week, the renewed attention towards Colston bore fruit when the Guardian revealed that a historian, Brooke Newman, had unearthed a document showing that in 1689, Colston transferred £1,000 of shares in the Royal African Company (RAC) to none other than King William III. The exposure of the extent to which the monarch was financially intertwined with the slave trading company of which Colston was a director does not teach us less about history, it teaches us more.
---
The activities of colonial companies like the RAC, which enjoyed a monopoly over the English trade in slaves from the west African coast, are often presented as distinct from the internal history of the British Isles.
Yes, there may have been the odd massacre performed in the service of British imperialism, but these were the actions of rogue merchants in distant tropical lands, operating far from the watchful eye of Westminster and the living embodiment of British sovereignty, the monarch. This makes it easy to delete the actions of the RAC from the national record: the 84,500 men, women and children who, during Colston’s time with the company, were taken by its ships from their homes in west Africa to suffer a life of slavery in the New World.
A quarter of them would not even survive the journey, so horrific were the conditions aboard Colston’s ships.
---
Yet this separation between internal royal histories and external colonial histories has always been a [hidden] spot in our understanding of the past. Companies like the RAC needed to be granted a royal charter just to exist: they couldn’t be just registered and incorporated like companies today.
And furthermore, as the Guardian’s research has illustrated, there was often a cosy personal connection between the ruling kings and queens of this island and its slave-trading and colonial companies. This extended from James II acting as a governor of the Royal African Company to George II being a shareholder of the South Sea Company, which held the contract to supply enslaved Africans to the Spanish colonies in South America. [...]
---
The new revelations arrive at a difficult time for the monarchy, with the coronation of a new king seeking to shore up the disruption caused by the passing of the long-reigning Elizabeth II. [...] Leading politicians in Australia and Jamaica, countries where the British monarchy traditionally enjoyed a great deal of public support, are now campaigning to follow in the footsteps of Barbados, [...] a step towards the Caribbean island “leaving our colonial past behind”. The rising unpopularity of the British monarchy in the once-reliable British West Indies was made evident by the protests that greeted [...] William and Kate, during their tour of the region last year. [...] The relationship between the British royal family and the former colonies isn’t just a question of symbolism or constitutional law. It is an entry point into a deep and bloody history [...]. It is a history that the lid has only just started to be lifted on.
---

CHAPTER TEN BABEEEE in this chapter we go back in time (hence the title). Timelapse takes place a little after Rosemarie and Simon go missing—the team lead at Good Intentions feels compelled to file a police report and visit Rosemarie’s empty home. (I noticed there's a little mistake in the text... just ignore it shh hush hush) I also wanted to say that I adore the comments you guys put in the tags of the reblogs. I know I'm shit at the tag games, but if anyone has any asks pertaining to this wip I'll do my best to answer! Working on this project has made me both stressed and happy lol I'm glad to be able to share my writing with even just a few people.

By now the power and water have been turned off. The food in the kitchen is beginning to mold; Sadie notices in particular a chicken pot pie that is a little too green inside. She shuts the stale refrigerator. It’s obvious that one of the last things Rosemarie did was lie in bed. The chairs at her gateleg table are pushed in, crochet placemats she used only when she had company still left on the table, her coke bottle of dried peonies at the center. The blankets were folded over the edge of the raisin-black velvet couch. She doesn’t touch the remote, turns on the TV to see what channel Rosemarie was last watching. She stares at Rosemarie’s unmade bed, tries to put the pieces together. She wondered what would make Rosemarie get up out of bed, it looked like she hadn’t done the dishes, hadn’t ordered takeout. Her room didn’t smell like Rosemarie did. Warmth, something homey. Amber and magnolias, chocolate and orchids. This wasn’t the first time she had been in Rosemarie’s home. She was here when Rosemarie was showing her the portrait Simon had drawn of her. She said that she had to see it in person so she could see every lovely line on the smooth Bristol board paper in a wooden ornate gold picture frame, the shape of it an oval, Simon’s familiar signature tucked beneath Rosemarie’s graphite chin. She looks in the bathroom, next. Rosemarie owned very little skincare and less makeup. She looks at herself in her mirror. There aren’t sticky notes on her bathroom mirror 0r a lipstick stain from her kiss. Everything is like a still life, the sort of still life you saw in your college art class, simple and with a single light source, the shadows and dust telling of time. She wonders what could have happened to her favorite coworker, the sweet-cheeked employee who was bronze incarnate and showed her face like the moon phases. The dark side of her was Sadie’s favorite. Sadie leaves without answers to Rosemarie’s disappearance. Her fingers tighten around the doorknob. She catches a glance of her wedding ring before she leaves the building.

I will call this day 0 otherwise I’ll confuse myself, so 1 April in Europe can be Day 1, except I fell asleep while trying to edit this last night, so I will confuse myself posting it on 1 April!
I feel very well equipped for this solo trip and future ones. I bought Keely’s old iPhone. This is the first phone I’ve owned! I’ve just had the work one, fearing I’d lose a second one! I have a portable mobile phone charger that appears to work well, AirTags attached to 3 items (as I did leave my new Apple Mac on a seat at the gate at Brisbane Airport last year)! I researched neck supports, and it was quite effective, and given the weather looked a bit rubbish in the Algarve on the advice of friends I raced out to MacPac and got a vest and I also invested in a Travelon cross body anti theft bag.
Today is a travel day. Brisbane to Dubai to Lisbon. Interestingly both Emirates Lounges were so quiet, as was Dubai airport mid morning. Is this cozzie lives? I asked a staff member in Dubai if it was due to Ramadan and he said no.
I met the lovely Tracey from seat 31D during the first flight. We were both up the back drinking cups of tea and stretching. She lives in Australia, originally from the UK, travelling back to Bristol to see her dying 62 year old sister 😢 She had an interesting story about terrible bosses, sea changes to Port Macquarie from Sydney and now due to her partner’s redundancy, three weeks after he achieved residency sponsorship from his employer, they are having several sea changes around Brisbane house and pet sitting while their place in Port Macquarie is listed on airbnb.
It gave me an idea about options for when I return as the beautiful 21 year old Anna, from the UK, has just signed the lease to rent my room for 3 months from 14th May 🤩 She’s studying forensic science and has a project at UQ. I have a feeling her and Rose are going to enjoy each others’ company.
I’d like to consider exploring house sitting locally and build up my references ahead of some potential overseas options💡 Any offers? Preferably modern, well appointed, comfortable, no pets and no gardening 😂
Now onboard the 7.51 hour flight to Lisbon. The lovely Calisa (flight attendant) came to my seat and welcomed just me back on board 😂 She said “let me know if there’s anything I can do to make your flight more comfortable”. I was too slow to say “upgrade me?” or “can you remove the crying babies and toddlers” This flight is very full.
Back to Netflix while I have access to my daughter’s account to download stuff. Just finished season 3 of Dead to Me, about to watch the last episodes of One Day. And started season 3 of Emily in Paris.
Usually I’d navigate public transport straight up but decided to order an Uber to the hotel and it worked really well. Felipe, the driver, was very surprised at how bright I was after all the travel.
I’m staying at Masa Hotel & Spa (it has a free gym which was great to use to shake off hours of sitting), near the airport (luckily flight didn’t start until around 6am) for 2 nights before heading to “home” in the Algarve for the rest of the month.

How to Plan for Furniture and House Removal Process with Removal Company
Tumblr media
Moving to a new house is an exciting experience but comes with stress and anxiety. One of the biggest challenges of moving is handling the process of  furniture removal in Bristol. It's not just about packing the items but also about hauling them safely to the destination. Many people prefer using the services of professional house removal companies in Bristol to make the moving process easier.
This blog post will discuss how house removal companies handle furniture removal and what you can expect from their services.
Tips to Determine The Cost of Your House Removal
• Establish a budget for the move
• Get estimates from reputable moving companies
• Research moving costs and regulations in your new location
• Calculate potential additional costs such as storage, insurance, etc.
• Take into account the cost of packing materials
• Prepare an itemized list of possessions that are being moved
What You Need to Do Before the House Removal Day Arrives
Here's a detailed list of things you need to do:
1. Purge unwanted items:
Moving is the perfect opportunity to declutter and eliminate items you no longer need or use. Go through every room in your house and sort out things you can donate, sell, or throw away.
2. Notify important parties:
Notify your utility providers, including electricity, gas, water, internet, and cable, about your move and schedule disconnection and reconnection dates. Also, inform your bank, credit card companies, insurance providers, and other essential parties about your new address.
3. Make arrangements for pets and children:
Hire a pet sitter or daycare for your pets so they are not harmed on house removal day. Similarly, please arrange for your children to be cared for or help them adjust to the move
4. Plan for packing:
Create a packing schedule and start packing gradually, beginning with items that are not frequently used. Get plenty of packing supplies, including moving boxes, bubble wrap, packing tape, and markers. Label every box with its contents and room destination to make unpacking easier.
5. Transfer memberships:
Inform the gym, library, and other institutions about your move and cancel or transfer memberships to your new location.

How do House Removal Companies Handle Furniture Removal?
1. Assessment
The first step in any furniture removal process is thoroughly assessing the items that need to be moved. A house removal company will send professionals to inspect your home and take inventory of all the furniture that needs to be relocated.
2. Packing and Labeling
Once the assessment is complete, the next step is packing and labeling the furniture items. A house removal company in Bristol usually provides packing materials such as boxes, tape, and bubble wrap to protect the items during the move. It helps the staff to identify and prioritize the things during loading and unloading.
3. Loading and Unloading
The most challenging part of furniture removal is loading and unloading the items. Professional house removal companies have experienced staff who know how to handle furniture of all shapes and sizes. The team will use equipment such as dollies and ramps to load the items safely onto the truck. They will also ensure that the items are secured properly for transit.
4. Disassembly and Reassembly
Some furniture items, such as beds and wardrobes, may need to be disassembled before loading and reassembled at the destination. A house removal company will have experienced staff handling such tasks.
5. Insurance
Despite all the precautions taken, there is always some risk involved in furniture removal. Discussing the insurance coverage with the house removal company before hiring their services is important.
In Conclusion,
Furniture removal in Bristol is a complex process that requires skill and expertise. If you plan to move, hiring a professional house removal company,  Aro Van Movers and Removals, can make the process easier and stress-free!

#onthisday in 1939 a Blackburn Skua of No. 803 Naval Air Squadron operating from HMS Ark Royal scored the Fleet Air Arm's first aerial victory of #worldwar2, shooting down a Dornier Do 18.
@classicwarbirds via X
Blackburn Skua
Responding to the release of Air Ministry specification O.27/34 which requested designs for a naval dive-bomber, Blackburn along with Avro, Boulton Paul, Hawker and Vickers all submitted designs, however it would be Blackburn's Skua design which would see service and two prototypes were ordered during April 1935. The Skua design was revolutionary for the Fleet Air Arm for as well as being the country's first naval dive-bomber it would also be the first carrier aircraft to be of monoplane design.
The Skua would have a two man crew and featured folding wings, back along the fuselage, and both prototypes would be powered by the 840-hp Bristol Mercury IX engine, with the 9th February 1937 seeing the maiden flight of the first prototype. Prior to this 190 aircraft had been ordered in July 1936 under Specification 25/36.
Before being sent to the Aeroplane and Armament Experimental Establishment at Martlesham Heath the Skua would make an appearance at the RAF Display, Hendon on the 26th June 1937 and then on the 28th June 1937 at Hatfield at the Society of British Aerospace Companies display. Early reports from the A&AEE gave promising feedback of the Skua's handling and after gunnery trials the aircraft was sent to Gosport for ditching trials. The 4th May 1938 would see the first flight of the second prototype. The two prototypes would be designated Skua Mk I.
The Skua was a year behind schedule and to help speed up the production process some of the work was sub-contracted and due to the Bristol Blenheim receiving priority on the Mercury engine the Skua would instead be powered by the 890-hp Bristol Perseus XII and the 190 aircraft ordered were known as Skua Mk IIs. The 28th August 1938 saw the first production Skua Mk II fly at Brough and had a few minor changes to its design.
The Blackburn Skua Mk II had a top speed of 225 mph, range of 760 miles with a service ceiling of 20,200 ft. Armament was four 0.303-in machine-guns with one rear firing Lewis gun. Bomb load was 500lb. The Skua Mk II would enter Fleet Air Arm service in November 1938 when No. 800 Naval Air Squadron received theirs whilst No. 803 Naval Air Squadron received theirs in December 1938 where they would replace Hawker Nimrods and Hawker Ospreys serving aboard HMS Ark Royal (91). They would be followed by No. 801 Naval Air Squadron and No. 806 Naval Air Squadron which was formed during February 1940. These four squadrons being the only frontline ones that would operate the type.
It was No. 803 Naval Air Squadron who scored the Fleet Air Arm's first aerial success during the Second World War (1939 - 1945) whilst operating from HMS Ark Royal (91) when on the 26th September 1939 just off Heligoland, Germany they shot down a Dornier Do 18. The Skua showed its potential in the dive-bombing role when sixteen from Nos. 800 and 803 Naval Air Squadron flying from RNAS Hatston attacked and sank the German cruiser Konigsberg on the 10th April 1940 at Bergen harbour, Norway. Although the mission saw the loss of one aircraft. The Skua would also be involved in the Battle of France (10th May 1940 - 25th June 1940) when on the 31st May 1940 No. 801 Naval Air Squadron Skuas attacked pontoon bridges over the Nieuwpoort-Dunkirk Canal, France.
No. 801 Naval Air Squadron based at RAF Detling also flew a number of sorties to support the evacuation of Allied troops from Dunkirk, France, Operation Dynamo (26th May 1940 - 4th June 1940), alongside the Blackburn Roc, however the Roc and Skua by this time were obsolete. Whilst the Skua could compete with Axis bombers it didn't stand a chance against the modern fighters and as a result was removed from frontline service in 1941. The squadrons that operated Skuas were given newer aircraft with the Fairey Fulmar equipping Nos. 800 and 806 Naval Air Squadron whilst the Hawker Sea Hurricane equipped Nos. 801 and 803 Naval Air Squadron. After this the aircraft would be used as a target tug or for training.
In total 192 Blackburn Skuas were built.

Man & van service: It is one of the essential parts of any commercial or residential move. Without a man and a van you won’t be able to transfer your goods safely.
