“We have a rich culture as Africans, but our general idiosyncrasies are overlooked. I want to convey the message of how Africans in different spaces in West Africa act when they aren't burdened with the weight of performing existence guided by rules and regulations.” —Arinze Patrick / Video courtesy of Arinzechukwu Patrick
Through my project, African Foto, I have been learning, documenting, and sharing Africa via my lens of its beauty. Along the way, I have been privileged to meet a variety of commendable photographers and creatives alike. My form of educating myself to share with others is to look, learn, and ask questions. Seven Foto Questions, a series of interviews with photographers answering the same questions about how they each came into their craft is only six interviews in, and there is a commonality amongst these photographers. They are all looking for something, in search of a story.
I now know that there is a reason why I started and why it was always necessary for me to document the people I crossed paths with at home and their stories.
