RIP JDF
Shocking absolutely no one, Tommy was my favorite Ranger growing up. Was even able to make a full white ranger suit a few years ago which, sadly, I've had to part with, but I still have the helmet and morpher.
I had originally planned to unveil this as a print at a convention that I will be at this weekend, but the printshop I ordered from said there was going to be a delay and that I won't be able to get the prints until next week. Hence why I am putting this up earlier, rather than at the end of the month like I normally would with Patreon rewards.
I know I rarely post here, but I wanted to post this one.
RIP Jason David Frank.
I grew up on Power Rangers and still enjoy the show today. Seeing him return to the show so many different times was amazing. He will be missed. JDF will always stand with the legacy alongside Thuy Trang, Machiko Soga, Peta Rutter, Pua Magasiva, and so many others. Once a Ranger, Always a Ranger. May the Power Protect You.
You will be missed. And JDF will remain as a huge part of many people's lives and childhoods.
'So baby, dry your eyes
Save all the tears you've cried
Oh, that's what dreams are made of
Oh baby, we belong
In a world that must be strong
Oh, that's what dreams are made of
And in the end
On dreams we will depend
'Cause that's what love is made of'
While I'm not going to suddenly hold JDF in the highest regard, or start stanning Tommy, I do think it is immensely sad that he might have reached such a low point to have taken his own life. If even Austin could let go of his grudge and pay his respects, I certainly have no reason to hold any lingering resentment against him. This is my personal belief. I hope Jason rests well and everyone in mourning for him finds peace.
I just heard that Jason David Frank, who played as Tommy Oliver, has passed away. He's always have been and also always will be a true legendary ranger. Just like Thuy Trang aka Trini.
I am still so very sad about this man’s passing. JDF was one of the biggest, if not the actual biggest, parts of my childhood. I kept up with him and Amy Jo through the years. He was my first crush and Tomberly was my first ship before I even knew what shipping was. I’ve been in a rut since Sunday over this. It just breaks my heart for his family, his friends, and for him most of all. Men’s mental health is so frequently overlooked. Please check in on your friends and family. Even if they seem fine on the outside, it doesn’t mean they are.
Jason, thank you so much for bringing Tommy to life, for loving the Power Rangers franchise as much as you did, and for always being amazing to your fans. Rest in power and enjoy seeing your brother, your mother, and Thuy once again.
My JDF tribute fic about Tommy’s death has been posted. It was written with love in the hopes of helping people process their grief. Here are the links for those who are interested:
