Game freak said ‘we’re making Pokémon Z, we’re brining back mega evolution, and fuck Gen 5’ all in a single breath

I love how the Pokémon community just collectively decided “wake up white boy it’s time to go to France”

I made this concept for a major story part for a Legends Zygarde back when PLA was all hyped up.

the first half of the game takes place during the war, the region is divided in 2 via a large warzone barrier that you are not allowed to cross due to it being too dangerous for you to cross, however once king Az fires off the mega weapon and ends the war and disappears,

a week long timeskip happens and the 2nd half of the region becomes available, the now devastated landscape is coated in flash fossilized pokemon which can be mined to obtain mega stones and mega stone shards, as humanity starts to learn the power of mega evolution, 1 man has been terrorizing towns and villages with mega pokemon leaving nothing but ash in his wake, with such mastery over these mega pokemon its as if he's known how to use megas his whole life... they call him "The Mega King". you are tasked with hunting him down.

eventually you find the mega king fresh off one of his raids, the camera stays to his back coated in a cloak depicting the legendary duo surrounding a mega stone and Zygarde's head above them, the man begins to talk about his past, how he was defeated in battle by a foolish child and was going to die for his mistakes, but just before his end, Hoopa appeared before him and threw him into one of his rings, though he was transported far into the sky and fell to earth just as the mega weapon was fired. his arm was hit, infusing the mans mega ring into his arm, bits of metal melted into his flesh and a mega stone sticking out the back of his hand are shown, once he landed and somehow survived the fall he realized where, and more importantly when he was. the end of the war, when the world was freshly reborn, he saw this as a gift, now he could start his goal anew, his dream, to rid the world of all that is impure, and make it... beautiful. You challenge, MEGA KING LYSANDRE

his battle would have a unique gimmic, ya know how you can move around in battles in legends arceus, well what if I said that now has a use, basically between attacks lysandre will also try to attack the player, how you ask? Well thanks to that mega stone in his hand, his arm now takes on the properties of the Pokémon he has out on the field (btw all his mons are always mega evolved) so while your Pokémon is dodging hyper beams from say mega garydos, you have to dodge hyper beams shot by Lysandres arm

no you don’t understand. x and y were the first pokémon games i, and a significant number of gen z, ever played. my bonds with my two best friends when i was little were almost entirely formed through bonding over these games. we didn’t notice how unfinished it was and loved every second of it. we didn’t notice how unfinished it was until we encountered zygarde, and went online to see if there was more to it and found out there wasn’t. i waited and waited for a pokémon z announcement - i played black and white 2 and heart gold while waiting, and would watch theory videos about what would be in it, or when they would announce it. i’d go to bed at night dreaming of playing it, and talking to my friends about it, and i’d dream of being in the pokémon world and befriending zygarde, and fighting xerneas and yveltal alongside it because it was just such a cool pokémon. and then they never announced it. oras are my favourite pokémon games but they didn’t fill the z shaped hole in my kid heart. by ultra sun and moon times, i gave up and forgot about it, besides feeling nostalgic whenever i heard about the leaked documents proving there was a plan for it. the shoe-horned in zygarde in sun and moon did nothing to help.

and now they announce a legends z game. no doubt a prequel to x and y. the amount of lore in x and y that didn’t get explored is mind boggling, and now we have a chance to finally see it. the king? the pokémon war? volcanion and magearna? diancie? zygarde’s battles with xerneas and yveltal? i’m sure there’s even more i don’t remember. and they even put the mega evolution symbol at the end - everyone’s favourite gimmick, the first to ever exist.

they’re finally going to give x and y a proper ending, a proper goodbye. and i couldn’t be happier.
