I'm not going to lie, TBBaby is so far the first book from PB that I feel such loathing for that I can't read a chapter (I've read 2 and will probably watch screenshots of the rest) - even TNA didn't turn me off like that. I think it's because the MC (and the writers) focus so hard on idealizing LI (In my game is man) just by his appearance - not what a rotten person he is. It seems to me that Daphne's behavior (over-controlling, for example) is due to this very reason. You won't tell me that someone who professes affection and kisses a girl he met on the same day with such ease (while in a relationship) hasn't done it before. In marital problems, the fault usually lies on 2 sides, and you can clearly guess that the "crystal" LI also has a lot on his conscience. But no one will ever say that in this kind of stories. What do you think?
‼️‼️‼️ I wholeheartedly agree with you anon. I think I said something vaguely along those lines in one of my posts about it. Like I’m sorry, but I refuse to believe that Cole or Sam or any other copy and pasted LI they use in these types of books is perfect and their wife/fiancée/etc. is just this awful dragon of a woman who they can’t escape. That’s not how logic works. And it’s not good storytelling. The characters lives didn’t start only when the book did. And our MCs can’t determine all the dynamics of their relationships after 2 interactions.
No wonder Daphne called screaming in the first chapter. And no wonder her mother gave Cole the third degree when we got to the mansion. I hate how PB tries to portray these women as crazy and overbearing, even more so because they use our MCs to do it. What those interactions actually show is that the LI most likely has a pattern of behavior that is causing them to react in those ways. As you said, no one in a relationship would behave the way Cole did upon first meeting MC and in that guitar playing scene if they haven’t already done it before. I don’t care how great the attraction is. And the fact that Cole steamrolled Daphne in the decision to make MC their surrogate has so many gross implications. To me it looks like he just wanted to get MC in their house no matter what.
Also, you can’t tell me that he’s trapped in this marriage with Daphne or that he even had to marry her to begin with. Cole is a young, attractive billionaire. I highly doubt it was a struggle to find a desirable woman who wanted to have kids before marrying Daphne, even if there was no Bytech and no fortune yet. Idc what excuse PB tries to come up with. And that was my problem with Sam in TNA. The excuses just don’t hold up when you consider how these people are characterized. Sam was grown, had been married before, and was way beyond financially stable. There was no reason for him to be pissing his pants about telling Mason Sr. he didn’t want to marry Sofia or for him to be worried about leaving a legacy for the twins. It’s lazy plain and simple

I think the line between people who consider pb a complex yet ultimately sympathetic character vs people who think she’s irredeemably evil (and say shit like “she was the REAL villain of adventure time”) is how much you think she knew of finn’s crush on her and manipulated him so that he’d continue to risk his safety by serving her.
personally i think she knew he had a crush on her but wrote it off as a silly childhood infatuation that did not affect their relationship in any way, and had no idea that he would ever lay down his life for her if she asked him to, and assumed that jake would always protect him (which is true). my evidence for this is twofold: she is genuinely, incredibly shocked when finn says that he was in love with her. she had no idea that he was like, sobbing on the floor over her. even when she learns that he keeps a lock of her hair, she just writes it off as a weird teenage boy thing. additionally, when broco nearly dies to impress her, she’s like ew what the fuck and is so concerned that she literally builds a robot of herself because she’s genuinely upset over how much distress his unrequited infatuation with her is causing him.
i think if she knew the depths of finn’s feelings, she would’ve tried fixing it by talking to him or setting him up with someone age appropriate (like what jake did). i know that jake makes finn think that pb is jealous when he gets a new girlfriend, but it’s pretty clear that pb is very happy for finn until she learns who his girlfriend is, at which point she’s concerned for reasons completely extraneous to finn himself. she doesn’t want finn to have a crush on her so that she can exploit him, in fact she clearly cares about finn even when he’s in his phase of thinking she’s evil and not wanting to help her at all.
this is never actually confirmed, but i think the reason that pb starting sending finn on quests in the first place wasn’t because she needed a lackey, but because she knew how much he enjoyed going on adventures and playing the hero, so she encourages his childish fantasies by making him feel like a knight on quests for his princess and calling him “her hero.” because he finds quests to go on regardless of whether or not pb is the one assigning them, but at least when she’s the one assigning them she knows that he’s not going to get hurt.
we never actually see how she first met finn and jake, but i think she sees herself as a sort of mother figure to finn, co-parents with jake, which eventually morphs into more of being a cool older brother figure (also like jake). she thinks his crush on her is weird but harmless, and she would never consider that she’s somehow encouraging it, because her meticulous performed femininity is just how she acts with everyone she considers her kid/subject/responsibility. she basically sees finn as one of her candy people, which means she cares about him and his wellbeing, wants to help make his life the best it can possibly be, takes a maternal interest in him, and also sort of assumes that he can’t possibly have a complex inner life of his own due to her arrogance and alienation from others.
pb has a tendency to be extremely condescending but it’s also clear (to me) that she means well, and I think her relationship to finn before he gets over her/starts to see her as a person reflects that.

the thing about me is I don't hate Matchbrush I just don't like how it was potrayed as a dyanmic
I wasn't into the osc when this thing was a big deal on da but looking back it just seems so OOC...
Like I don't feel like PB would be super head over heels for Match? Are they suppose to be overheels? What is their bond? How do they even function as a couple?
Their dynamic feels more like them doing romantic things in a basic way without any context to them or how the ship even works, none of the art ever really plays on their personalities and is just kinda

I had a dream Ohio was getting an until then California only fast food place (not in and out) and I was so excited and I drove past it to see when it would be open.... not until August 2099. 😭 wtf
#that wasnt even the wildest part of the dream#and i saw the restaurant when i was trying to break out of the church camp i went to (had a breakdown in and went home 2 days early from)#when i was like 11 but i could drive and was like today aged#like why was i there 😭 and i was like running away bc it was like really eerie there and felt like post apocalyptic#then i got home and the station on our tv that is the only audio channel was gonna start playing jjba but only one part a year and every day#of the week they would only play a certain character focused episode and they were starting with part 3 (my beloved)#and the schedule was like sunday: dio. monday: avdol. tuesday: kakyoin. wednesday: jotaro. thursday: polnareff (i can never spell it 😭)#friday: joseph. and Saturday was just minor villian episodes sgdgdgdgdgdgd anyway all this starting at 8pm and i was mad#that kakyoin was on tuesday bc tuesdays i fall asleep early bc im off the next day and i was mad it wasnt like Thursday#then every pbs channel was playing a new cyberchase movie but they all started at different times so the movie wasnt synced among the#channels and i kept flipping between them instead of watching whatever one started last#at least it was half a funny dream though and not 100% a nightmare like my dreams usually are#oh and the jojo eps would be like ones from the series but also they just made up new ones but never told anyone when the new ones would air#so youd have to watch the whole time sgdgdgdggdgxgxg#marquilla

This is incredibly niche to my own experience, but as a New Hampshirite, a classic Dr Who nerd, and someone who was raised on PBS, finding this (frankly boring) clip of a Dr Who pledge drive from NHPTV from the early 90s has made me happy today.
I grew up knowing of Dr Who but I don't think I ever really watched it -- even though this channel showed it until I was 12. It was broadcast on Saturday nights and I know me and my family were watching something else on one of the other 3 channels we could get instead. The most I must've seen was only in channel-surfing passing. Nevertheless, it must have been enough that when I finally did watch the show in highschool, I was struck with a weird sense of familiarity that I couldn't shake.
Finding this clip is weird and nostalgic for me; it's probably a bit too early for me to have ever seen, I was at the oldest a toddler when it aired. I found Dr. Who on the internet, but watching this is like a peek into an alternate reality where I might've watched the show as a kid on the family 13" tv, coming in fuzzily as that channel always did, in between PBS pledge drives.
#seeing Dr Who in the context of the PBS of my childhood is so weird#also its making me realize why i wouldn't have stayed to watch#(pledge season notwithstanding - i never could bother with that even for my favorite shows)#i probably saw a snippet and thought it was just another boring british historical drama like 90% of the rest of PBS's schedule#i definitely would have loved some of the more spacey episodes though#my memories of dr who before properly watching it was the classic diamond logo#and just a general sense that the show was kind of scary but intriguing in a mysterious way#so not much to go on but hey ho#I got there in the end#doctor who#pbs#classic who#tom baker

Okay, I tried to redownload RC (after seeing the posts about them actually listening to their fanbase unlike PB) to check if didn't work again by now for me - AAAND:
I downloaded it months ago after seeing an ad for Heaven's Secret (or maybe it was ROTT?). I only opened it and didn't even pick an MC then. And then I couldn't even open the app because of a crashing issue.. Yet, they still gave me a freaking reward!!! This huge no less.. 😳
