A little sad....
So, I think most photographers/creatives/imagists (I prefer the latter), who care about their work have probablt gone through what I am now dealing with. It certainly has made me a bit sad. I have discovered that I have lost nearly all the original and RAW images that I made over a about a two year perios from 2020-2021. Any images ptrviously edited or published have been preserbed, but many many untouched images have been lost. I estimate as many2 to 4 thousand.
I do realize that its not the end of the world and amounts to spilled milk in the larger scheme of things, however I did do some extensive travel with China suring that period. I was stuck here because of covid! The country is thankfully open again, however, some of those unedited, unpublished images felt pretty special to me! Moreover, the loss was basically due to my own negligence (and some complex logistic issues that aren't worh sharing). Simply put, I thought I had a backup when I recently deleted this stuff, but didn't. I suppose its good I can't blame anyone, but am left feeling a bit blue.
So, this really being my photography blog, I am going to list here for posterity's sake what has been lost. I will also treat it as a rather harsh lesson learned! :'(
Btw, I beg your indulgence... You don't need to read all this! hehehe

Harvest Moon - 9-9-2022 While the full moon was stealing the soul of my dso images, I decided to capture its soul as well. I know, no dso under a bright moon, but surprisingly, some of my data came alright... more of that later! Here I took 60 images, used 80% and stacked them, did some waveletsxin Pixinsight then finished up with color, etc in Photoshop. Unlike other phases, it looks is difficult to get sharp detail due to the overwhelming brightness. . 60 x 1/500s - 80% stacked 2000mm, 400 ISO, f8.0 Dark frames used for calibration Providence, RI - Bortle 8 . Nikon CoolPix P950 Master dark created in DeepSkyStacker, stacked in AutoStakkert!3, wavelets and noise in Pixinsight, color and noise in Photoshop . @provjournal . . . #astrophotography #astronomy #astrophoto #moon #Luna #harvestmoon #fullmoon #highpointscientific #OPTeam #agenaastro #nasa #space #spaceimage #igworldclub_astrophotography #ig_spaceimage #ig_astrophotography #nikonphotography #nikonp950 #solarsystem #rhodeisland #astromaniacmag #astrobackyard #backyardastronomy #nightphotography #nightsky #nature #cratersofthemoon #pixinsight #photography #photooftheday (at Providence, Rhode Island) https://www.instagram.com/p/CiXZ6LugxZ1/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The Opening Salvo, Cheap Glass For NIKKORheads! headache-induced rambling.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step – Chinese proverb.
Nikon is probably one of the cheapest Camera brands to get into these days. That's mainly due to the fact that the F mount contains some of the most illogically cheap glass ever seen on a system to date! But there really hasn't been anyone trying to make a modern day, comprehensive list of all of the little buggers that exist. This is frankly due to the ever growing fact that there is too many lenses for one person to trouble themselves with because there can only be so many styles, focal lengths and F-stops one can touch on before they themselves become absolutely stone-mad and try to eat the canvas bag that holds your camera. There are people that review them as they come along and itemize them and props to those who can put up with that kind of cheap bullshit. But I’ll not bring Ken Rockwell into this whole charade if I don't have to.
Tumblr media
Black-eyed Susans - Nikon D3, Nikkor AF-D 80-200mm F2.8 one touch, ISO 400, F3.2, 1/400 second
With the Glass Problem I have, it seems that i have no real basis to try and hunt for the Good pieces of shiny Circular Goodness on my own. Ken Rockwell can help as a sort of basic bitch barometer but his Certified Hot Takes and Oversaturated images can only carry me so far. The best thing I can do then, Really. Is get grounded and try to cope with what I can get to and throw out the rest as cheap bullshit for the hounds to go after. 1987 and beyond Glass that can actually be worth a Damn. But the method of finding the diamonds in the rough can roughly be equated to going Landmine-Hunting with a sledgehammer.
Tumblr media
Forest Corridor. Nikon D3, AF-D Nikkor 18-35mm F3.5-4.5 ED, F9, 35mm, 1/500sec, ISO 640
With all of this and the above rambling, it feels like the best idea to me is to get some grounding on the opening of this Shameful Diary is to itemize the pros and cons of the glass I already have as I step up to get their newer counterparts alongside picking up some of the old, manual AI and AI converted numbers. Why not? It makes perfect sense to me. “Catalog what you know, pick up on what you don't” Maybe Ill Improve in this hobby for once in my life. But the immediate problem that I ran into with that angle is twofold. One; my collection of glass can best be described as “Eclectic” And two, if I really want to wring the potential Max Performance out of these shiny glass cylinders my brain is screaming at me that I should get a camera with a higher megapixel sensor inside of it. This idea gets constantly brought up by the council of mad gerbils that tens to run my inner thoughts, but is immediately shot down by the idea that the camera we would “like to step up to” the D850, does not supersede bills. So its immediately thrown out until I can cope with buying its just-as-capable cousin, the D800.
Tumblr media
Dog! Nikon F4S. Ektachrome E100 Before I veer off into any tangents or this manic wave passes over me and ill be left in a catatonic slump. Ill itemize a few of the repeat Photon-Wranglers that will show up here and mention some of the glass I hope to gather and show off. In the vein hopes of becoming a niche internet micro-celebrity on a dead website that had strange porn on it coming out through the eyeballs. This is what I get for not bothering to make a proper website. But once again, things like that cost money, which i don't tend to have a lot of for long periods of time. mainly all of it is spent on fanciful trips or restocks on film, not to mention development of the buggers. But anyway!
Repeat appearances will include the; Nikon D3 Nikon F4S Nikon D800/D850 (When purchase of either is applicable) Nikon F FTN Eventual Glass Purchases;
AFS Nikkor 24-120mm F4 G type AFS Nikkor 50mm F1.8 G type AF-D Nikkor 24mm F2.8 AF-D Nikkor 35mm F2 AF-D Nikkor 300mm F2.8 ED
AFS Nikkor 200-500mm F5.6 ED VR E type Vogitlander Nokton 58mm F1.4 SL-2 S AFS Nikkor 300mm F4 D type AFS nikkor 28-300mm F3.5-5.6 G type Among others.
But as I Shuffle through the Glass I have in an effort to either Sell or keep them Maybe some special moment will arrive that will make me think that all of this spent money on glass, film development, digital bodies and endless hours working out how the fuck a modern flashgun works or how to edit my RAW files like i know what im doing will be all worthwhile. Or it will make me want to travel back in time and throttle whoever designed the AF-D 80-200mm F2.8 one touch to have its’ focal length be changed by jerking off the main section of the barrel.

Sunrise from the Station
As the International Space Station orbited over the southern Indian Ocean, an astronaut looked eastward and captured this photo of the Sun rising above Earth’s horizon.
This edge-on photo of Earth’s limb reveals several atmospheric layers. The lowest layer, known as the troposphere, appears orange and red as these wavelengths of light are scattered by particles of dust, smoke, and smog. Directly above the troposphere is the stratosphere. This blue layer is usually cloud-free and extends as much as 50 kilometers (30 miles) above Earth’s surface. The region directly above the stratosphere is known as the mesosphere.
The Sun—the focal point in this image—is front and center in NASA’s Heliophysics Big Year. This “big year” celebration began with the annular solar eclipse in October 2023 and continues with a total solar eclipse in April 2024. It concludes with the Parker Solar Probe’s closest approach to the Sun in December 2024.
The total solar eclipse in April 2024 will pass over Mexico, the United States, and Canada. In addition to putting on an impressive show, the eclipse offers research opportunities including the chance for scientists to study the Sun’s effect on Earth’s ionosphere. This is the region spanning from about 80–600 kilometers (50–400 miles) above Earth’s surface, overlapping with the top of the atmosphere and the beginning of space. It is where the space station and other satellites in low Earth orbit hang out, and where radio and GPS signals bounce around.
During a solar eclipse, astronauts on the space station can sometimes see the Moon’s shadow passing over Earth. Views of sunrises are much more common, with astronauts witnessing as many as 16 sunrises every 24 hours.
Astronaut photograph ISS070-E-1178 was acquired on September 29, 2023, with a Nikon D5 digital camera using a focal length of 170 millimeters. The image was provided by the ISS Crew Earth Observations Facility and the Earth Science and Remote Sensing Unit at Johnson Space Center. The image was taken by a member of the Expedition 70 crew. It has been cropped and enhanced to improve contrast, and lens artifacts have been removed. The International Space Station Program supports the laboratory as part of the ISS National Lab to help astronauts take pictures of Earth that will be of the greatest value to scientists and the public and to make those images freely available on the Internet. Additional images taken by astronauts and cosmonauts can be viewed at the NASA/JSC Gateway to Astronaut Photography of Earth. Caption by Kathryn Hansen.

About four days before my move to Sarasota. Candace Christian asked if I would do a quick shoot for her Luxe Style magazine Spring issue.
It was cloudy and cool that Tuesday early evening April 2023 . I showed up in downtown Jacksonville at Church St with no one there so I parked and waited. Candace text me the actual location behind a church and drove into the parking lot there.
This shoot produced the cover for the issue.
