Now that Addy has entered the world of screens and we are watching Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, I have a renewed interest and love for Mr. Rogers. This video clip of him testifying to a senate subcommittee in order to save public television from budget cuts is so moving! What a pioneer in treating children with respect and validating their emotions!

I think he would have loved this show that is carrying on his legacy. Before we started watching it, I introduced Addy to some of the songs from the show through the “Daniel Tiger For Parents” app. They are so relevant to a 3 year old’s life, and we sing many of them throughout the day. Her favorite one right now is, “It’s okay to make a mistake. Try to fix it and learn from it too.”

I love this quote from Mr. Rogers I found:

"I went into television because I hated it so, and I thought there's some way of using this fabulous instrument to nurture those who would watch and listen."

I relate to his conflicted relationship with technology, but am thankful for this gentle show to make the leap.
