Eddie barely hears the quick knock, knock, knock on the front door of the trailer over his music: a Dio cassette cranked up to a soothing billion and five decibels. Funny enough, it’s a cassette that Steve had gifted him as part of a group Glad You Didn’t Die present when he left the hospital. Everyone from Corroded Coffin to Nancy Wheeler contributed something, but Steve made sure to get Dio. Eddie likes to think that maybe wearing his vest all that time rubbed off on Steve. 

He hardly registers it, but the knocking continues, a second round of three taps. Eddie sighs and does some quick mental calculations– Steve is on a date, Robin is with Nancy, Jonathan is with Argyle, and Lucas took Max to the movies. No one else has a license or is within walking distance, so unless one of the kids convinced Claudia Henderson to drop them off without warning, there’s only one logical explanation. 

“The Men in Black have finally come to throw me in the back of a van and drag me to their lab,” Eddie mutters to himself, dropping his pen onto the open journal and rolling off his bed. 

Knock, knock, knock, knock. 

“I’m comin’, I’m comin’, Jesus Christ.” He calls out as he makes his way to the door. The two-bedroom trailer is larger than their old one, the hallway longer from his room in the back. 

A cold chill slips in from the cracks around the door before he even gets to the doorknob, but his blood runs warm when he yanks it open. 

Steve Harrington, in his cozy red sweater, dark jeans, and perfectly fluffy, coiffed hair is standing on his doorstep with one hand on his hip. That one hand is gripping a bouquet of roses that match his jumper and for a brief moment, Eddie wonders if his journal has been lifted from a fantasy novel. What he’d just put into words on the page is now standing in front of him— what does one say to their fantasy showing up at their doorstep?

“What the fuck are you doing here?”

A Pink Take on the Capsule Wardrobe

Or: Pieces to consider when building a pink academia-inspired wardrobe Ok, the capsule wardrobe has been defined to death, and I think we all know what it is. I’m not here to reinvent the wheel, I’m just here to paint it pink!

T-shirts: having plain black/white t-shirts and vest tops as well as long-sleeved tops as either a nice basic or an underlayer are all staples, of course. But I want to make room for a few fun t-shirts that have disgustingly obnoxious Bratz-style graphics on them and say things like “Angel.” Mwah, marvellous, gorgeous, perfection.

Shirts and Blouses: you need a few plain button-up shirts- personally my most-worn are from the men’s section. But also, something fun like a pussycat bow or a puffed sleeve adds your own personality to the basic. Obviously, I’m on the hunt for a good pink shirt or too. Skirts and

Trousers/Pants: first of all, jeans are super personal, so you should just choose the cuts and colours that suit you and make you feel the most. But also, something office-appropriate, be it trousers or a pencil skirt, and be it a matching suit/set, is worth having. And you guys know I live for a plaid skirt moment- and plaid trousers are so fun, though I have yet to find my dream pair. We also tend to undervalue the formal short!

Formal Events: having something simple an elegant and a few “nice” pieces for a range of functions is nice and handy, but I think having one or two statment pieces that make you feel like Elle the night she thinks Warner is going to propose (you know, ideally without the heartbreak that came after).

Seasonal Dressing: You absolutely need clothing that suits your environment, and I’m making a point about it because I don’t see it emphasised enough. Pinkify your jumpers by picking a pink argyle sweater vest, or pinkify your sundresses with a hot-pink floral. Own both if that’s the norm for your country.

Shoes: basics usually include a good solid pair of trainers/sneakers/runners/gutties/whatever, doc martens, something office-ready and a sensible heel. I think Pink basics include something with a pearl detail, and/or a disgustingly ankle-breaking Bratz heel.

Coats: I am in full support of making a pink trenchcoat the go-to Pink Academia outerwear.

Ivy League dress is characterized by a clean cut but overall less formal style than that of previous generations. Press and Brooks Brothers represented perhaps the quintessential Ivy League dress manner, the former with two of its four locations found at Harvard and Yale universities (the Princeton branch closed in 1943).

The Ivy League style was epitomized by the sack suit, which is defined as being a 3-to-2 (3 buttons with the top button "rolled" back to reveal only two usable buttons) jacket without darts and a single "hooked" vent. The pants were typically cuffed and without pleats. It was also characterized by the use of natural fabrics, shirts with button-down collars, and penny loafers. In 1957 and 1958, about 70% of all suits sold were in the "Ivy League" style.

Typical hairstyles included the crew cut, Harvard clip, and regular haircut, and common clothing items included cardigan sweaters, sweater vests, Nantucket reds, khaki chino pants, knitted ties, white Oxford shirts, Tootal or Brooks Brothers ties, Ascot neckties, tartan, grey tweed cloth or flannel sportcoats, and seersucker blazers in the South.
