My first fanart of Death Come True back when it came out wasn't my best, so when I replayed it yesterday (idk why I said “today” in my Tweet lol), I decided to draw some more. Here's a certain serial killer. Or someone like that.
ID under cut
[ID: A portrait of Makoto Karaki from Death Come True. He is represented with silver hair, inspired by Rui Komatsuzaki's artwork. He is looking slightly away from the camera with a determined expression, pointing a gun to his own head. End ID]

“Oh Shizue? We go way back, when I was still a prosecutor and struggling a lot with my workload, looking after my sister and the Makoto Karaki case.  I owe a lot to her, she helped me with saving my now husband from Deathrow - she has been a good friend to me, and I wouldn’t trade her for anything.  That said, I do wish she would stop threatening to kidnap Seina.”

[Fire Emblem Awakening ✅ + Fire Emblem Engage] More at my blog blisscast.wordpress.com, www.vintagepeople.it, and www.gamerevs.it, links in bio! 🆕 Journal Page 36 about Death Come True is up NOW! Link in bio. 🇮🇹 Disponibile anche in italiano. . Say hello to the new Fire Emblem game ✨. I wasn't originally going to buy this as soon as it came out, then my editor started playing and he said that it was incredibly polished and fun, so I decided to give it a try ✨. It's great so far! I've not advanced past ch6 yet because I'm trying to finish .hack//G.U. Vol 3 first, but I'll finish Engage soon ( ˙꒳˙ ). . I'm honestly impressed with Volume 3 so far. Some issues are still present (at this point we could say that they're a feature XD), but the dungeon pacing issue of Volume 2 was fixed! The mandatory dungeons are now at my level or maybe a level ot two lower, and they aren't so useless anymore! Could be better, but as I explained in Page 34 (Volume 2), this Remastered version increases the amount of experience you get, thus story stuff ends up thinking you're at a lower level (not counting optional grinding, of course) and is easier as a result. I'm glad to see that they have fixed it in volume 3, even in the original releases (maybe it was a slight issue in there as well, who knows). More to come in the actual journal page, or I'll have nothing to write about, lolol XD. . 🆕 In Death Come True, We play as a young man, Makoto Karaki, who wakes up in a hotel room with no memory of his identity or his past. This could be easily solved, but after turning on the TV to get some information, he happens to see a news report about a serial killer, and this wanted man is none other than Makoto Karaki himself! He can't believe he's killed someone, but he can't be sure due to his lack of memory. Hoping to plan his next steps, he visits the room, but finds a woman, Akane Sachimura, in his bathtub, who seems to be dead, maybe killed by Makoto himself! Now Makoto is in deep trouble, and we have to help him! . #fireemblemengage #fireemblem #fireemblemheroes #feh #nintendoswitch #nintendoswitchgames #fireemblemawakening #3ds #nintendo3dsgames #nintendo3ds #gamergirls #gamergirl https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn7rKXwo5rO/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Izanagi Games confirmed a 2020 release window in Japan and introduced the main character for Death Come True, its newly announced full motion video game directed and written by Danganronpa creator Kazutaka Kodaka. Platforms are still to be announced.
Kanata Hongou (pictured above) will portray main character Makoto Karaki. Kanata Hongou also portrayed Danganronpa series protagonist Makoto Naegi in the stage adaption of the game, as well as Ryota Mitarai in the anime Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope’s Peak High School. Here is the description of the character from the official website:
When Makoto Karaki wakes up in a hotel, he seemed to have lost his memory. He has no recollection of who he is or why he is in the hotel. By watching the news on TV, he learns that he is wanted for a series of murders.
Izanagi Games describes Death Come True as Japan’s first-ever “interactive content” that combines movie and game, where the story develops based on the player’s choices and there are several possible endings. Here is the company’s summary of the game:
The setting is a certain hotel. The protagonist Makoto Karaki (portrayed by Kanata Hongou) is wanted for a series of murders. But he has no memory at all. Under such circumstances, he has the miraculous ability to “Time Leap” and return to the past when he dies. As a criminal on the run, he will have to ask himself who he can trust and question the true nature of his own character. Through repeated decisions and death, aim to discover the truth.
The next character reveal for Death Come True will be announced via the official website on December 13 at midnight PT / 3:00 a.m. ET / 17:00 JST.

Death Come True thoughts
I just got done with my first playthrough of Death Come True, Kazutaka Kodaka’s newest live-action game! Being that I’m just too good, I finished the game without getting every possible scene and achievement, which means I’ll have to replay it a little bit differently. An element of the game does make it so one should be obligated (from my understanding at least) to play through it twice, though, so I’m glad I didn’t forcefully attempt to get everything on my first playthrough.
Tumblr media
Here are my first thoughts! They are completely spoiler-free, however, I understand that by being a short game, and the way the player learns its plot, the developers are extremely careful to avoid the sharing of any type of spoiler. As far as I’m concerned, my post is completely safe for someone who hasn’t played the game yet and would like to know what they’re getting into without having plot or gameplay elements ruined for them, but if you really, really want to go in blind, I encourage you to avoid reading it!
(I’d say basically that if you mean to play the game anyway, or if you have tons of far-fetched theories you want to keep for the longest time possible, you could read my thoughts later and share yours then. If you’re on the fence, why not check what I have to say first?~)
Yet another introduction to a post that’s much more solid than the actual content of said post.
My first and main thought about Death Come True (hereinafter referred to as DCT...) is that it is, indeed, a really short game. Not in the sense that it feels like anything’s missing from it, however. Its writing and pacing is well-balanced, properly explaining and wrapping up its story. Rather... I’d say DCT is like a short story adapted into an interactive movie - short story in the “novella” sense. (Why didn’t you just say “novella” then, you ask, and “what the fuck kind of foreign language is english even” I ask in reply)
Now taking its price into account... I think ¥1960 is a very good price for this game. This would translate to 15,84€, however it ended up costing me 17,99€. This price, a little closer to 20€, made me hesitate a little more-- but at the end of the day it’s only 2,15€ more than I expected, and I was curious about this game, so I told myself “fuck it” and bought it anyway. If unlike me, you have money in your bank account, DCT’s cost shouldn’t feel like a waste to you, as it is, after all, a lot less than the usual pricing for such a game.
Now onto my ~actual fucking thoughts~. I enjoyed it. DCT’s not breathtaking, it’s definitely not going to reshape the way I see my life or anything of the sort, and I probably won’t spend the rest of my life thirsting over its characters. It was a very sweet experience, however, and made me laugh every now and then (... though I’m not sure if that was fully intended-- the game isn’t humouristic per say, but the protagonist finds himself in such absurd situations you’ll likely let out a chuckle every now and then, at least as far as the beginning of the game is concerned. To be honest, some of these might have seemed a bit less absurd to me if I’d picked every wrong choice, because if you play the game you’ll see that they justify Makoto’s weirdest of choices.), as well as feel a little emotional at the end. I’ll scour the interwebs for fanart. I’ll cosplay Nene. You can’t stop me. I enjoyed this game. Might skip the Makoto Karaki angst art tho.
I mean, there isn’t much I can say about what makes this game enjoyable - if you’ve ever enjoyed a murder-mystery novella or its adaptation, you’re likely to enjoy DCT.
What I want to share my thoughts about the most, though, is that this game has Kazutaka Kodaka written all over it. Some characters, plot elements, situations... Will make a Danganronpa fan realize that “oh, yeah, that’s a concept Kodaka likes”.This does play into DCT not being some sort of amazing new discovery, but as someone who’s a  h u g e  fan of Danganronpa and appreciates Kodaka as a creator (... which isn’t as common as you might think among the DR fandom), I really appreciated that about it. Frankly, all it’s missing is some “almost canon” heterosexual pairing between a tall woman and a small man.
Playing through the game, I often asked myself questions, and each was answered rather quickly. Yeah, the suspense doesn’t last very long, and there isn’t a lot left to the imagination. At all. From a story-telling standpoint, though, I’d say that this again highlights DCT’s writing’s good balance and pacing. The game raises the right questions at the right time, making their answers feel satisfying and logical.
Some characters are a bit lacking. Two of them mainly- had an interesting concept, were properly seen in action, but mostly disappeared from the rest of the plot, which felt a little disappointing, when they could have had a looming influence on the general gameplay. Yet they’re mostly missing. They have their time to shine once, and then disappear. I’ll have to say that was a little bit disappointing.
I think that’s about all I have for now. I’m glad I played the game, and I don’t know for sure if I would have liked for it to be longer or not. In some ways, I’d say the answer is yes... But I also feel like the way it actually is, its quick pacing and short story, just works the way it is. So you know, it’s solid on its own, and I appreciated that, but it could also have been something more.
I found myself wondering if the reason behind every question being so clearly answered, leaving almost nothing to the imagination, was a reaction coming from Kodaka to Danganronpa V3′s plot and ending being so globally misinterpreted. Food for thought. ┐(´∀`)┌ Though it could as well be an attempt to make it clear this isn’t the type of title to ever get any sort of sequel or spin-off.
Well, when I was done playing DCT... Rather than questioning the experience I’d just had with the game, I found myself questioning my relationship to Danganronpa and what it means to me. I cannot stress enough how much I enjoyed finding elements that screamed “Kodaka” all over a new game and story. I don’t know. It feels like I’m starting to know him as a creator, and I find that we have similar tastes in matters of story concepts. Hey, if you like Kodaka’s scenarios, you’ll like DCT, is what I think. I also found myself thinking about it being 2020, and me being in my bed, playing a new game by Kazutaka Kodaka, with promotional art credited to Rui Komatsuzaki and soundtrack by Masafumi Takada. I wondered what that meant to me, and where I was in my life.
But that’s a whole other post.
Death Come True is a good game. I can’t extrapolate much more or pretend that I revere it, all I can say is that it is, in fact, good. I’m glad I got to discover a live-action title from TooKyo Games and knowing they can come up with nice concepts like this one makes me all the more excited for their upcoming titles.
(Edit: I didn’t think about it at first but I just read some french guy’s review that mentioned the cinematography feeling a bit “cheap”. I personally disagree, as I think the filming contributes to the good and quick pacing of the game, and the special effects were very well implemented.)

Death Come True Will Not Allow Streaming to Prevent Spoilers
June 22, 2020 3:18 PM EST
It’s strictly prohibited to stream or make videos of Death Come True, the newest adventure from Danganronpa’s Kazutaka Kodaka.
IzanagiGames, the publisher of Death Come True, announced three days before the game’s launch it’ll have very specific streaming and video rules.
Long story short, it’s strictly prohibited to stream or publish videos of Danganronpa Director Kazutaka Kodaka’s new FMV adventure. You will find some videos of Death Come True on social media though. Those were preemptively approved by IzanagiGames, who allowed certain streamers and YouTubers to do so. It’s also allowed to publish screenshots of Death Come True, but only up to after three time loops in the story.
To prevent spoilers, uploading playthrough videos & live streams of Death Come True is strictly prohibited. An official announcement about the prohibition of playthrough videos & live streams of DCT, a new FMV game, has been made jointly with attorney Mr. Hiroyuki Nakajima. #DCT pic.twitter.com/2rQQbNFIkz
— Death Come True Official (デスカムトゥルー公式) (@DeathComeTrue) June 22, 2020
Personally, I think that makes perfect sense as the idea behind DCT is that it’s both a game and a movie. And streaming most movies is prohibited.  Plus it’s a Japanese game we’re talking about here so it was expected.

Death Come True was also reviewed on Eiga like any Japanese movie would.
映画ドットコムの記事ですが、映画側の人がプレイするとこんな感想なんだと少し新鮮。 今週の25日発売です。 スマホでできます。 映画と同じ値段です。 僕なりの映画業界への挑戦状かもしれません。 https://t.co/3fby6a3vTG
— Kazutaka kodaka/小高和剛 (@kazkodaka) June 22, 2020
Kazutaka Kodaka also said the game can be considered himself “challenging the movie industry”.
At the same time, I believe prohibiting streaming is not a very smart move in 2020, and ultimately, streaming the game will do it more good than prohibiting it. With that said, I couldn’t even begin to comprehend those who’ll probably now proceed to boycott the game for the sole reason they can’t stream it. As I strongly dislike the fact social media now pushes us to share Every Little Thing we do in our lives instead of privileging privacy. I’m still looking forward to the game either way.
Death Come True launches worldwide June 25 on Switch and mobile. Other consoles and PC versions will follow later on.
