Sinderella
We missed Big Dick and His Pussy, last year’s mucky offering from the Adult Panto team, so we were determined to see Sinderella, their very naughty-but-nice interpretation of the classic rags to royalty tale we all know so well. It was a strictly gays’ and girls’ night for our foursome at Norwich’s Maddermarket Theatre, with husbands left behind to look after the sprogs. Giving a whole new…

The Importance of Being Earnest (2002)
Tumblr media
I was taken to see this on stage a couple of years before at either the Arts Centre or Maddermarket theatre. My mum imagined me having a more festive and theatrical future and hoped I would one day be part of the footlights so I was already very familiar with Oscar Wilde at this point. But after all that, I think I went to see this film with a girl I liked back in Norwich while very much not attending an Oxbridge university. I was clearly going to be a disappointment on many levels.
This was my second dose of Dench for the year and of course this also stars gorgeous Rupert Everett, who I am delighted to have just discovered was the visual reference for Italian comic book detective of the supernatural Dylan Dog. Of course, I had no idea of any of this at the time and just enjoyed being taken along by the sizzling script and I imagine probably feeling very smug for already being familiar.
In the days when I used to save my cinema stubs in a scrapbook,* I remember writing the quotation “I can resist anything but temptation" next to this ticket. How very esoteric of me. I often wonder what it would be like if I had started taking my writing seriously earlier on but I was a very easily distracted teenager. The silver lining to holding off for so long is that I’ve spared the world from whatever embarrassingly earnest tosh I would have come up with back then.
*At some point I must have decided to throw this out. Would have been really handy for writing this. Oh well. Memory is the diary we all carry about with us, as the man said.

Spooky holiday
It was end of July, over 5 years after Amy and her family moved out from Norwich to Lower Gornal, town near Dudley. After 2 years of paranormal time, 3 years was quiet and settled. They start enjoy place where they live. They made some friends. Josh and Zoe grown up to a teenage age now. Both of them, mostly Zoe wanted visit town from a childhood times.
They missed the Town and wanted visit old friends. Amy and Beth didn't have a problem with it. Even if they hadn't much friends to visit over there, going on holiday in Norwich part wasn't bad idea for them.  Because Zoe and Josh had already holiday from school, Amy and Beth booked a week from there jobs and booked The Maids  Head Hotel in Norwich, Norfolk for four of them... They also decided make a visit to places in Norwich which was known with paranormal happenings. Shortly, they wanted to do their own paranormal investigating in town they lived before. Josh and Zoe was exited.
After couple days of making ready for holiday, finally on a 1st of August they've got up early in a morning after shower and a breakfast, got to a taxi on a way to train station in Wolverhampton.  Seven hours of a trip they finally made to Norwich. For a county that's so steeped in history, it's not surprising that Norfolk has its fair share of ghost sightings and paranormal activity.  And They was ready for adventure, meet old friends and fun.
The Maids Head Hotel, place where all 4 of them was staying, claims to be the oldest hotel in Britain This hotel is over 800 years old. Even Queen Elizabeth I was reportedly a fan, spending the night in what has now been called the Queen Elizabeth Suite during a stay in the late 16th century. The Tudor style hotel is supposedly home to a maid who floats around the corridors with a strong smell of lavender following her. A second phantom is that of a former city mayor who has been sighted in the courtyard violently shaking his head.
Next day in a late morning all of them we see their friends and catch on what is happening. It was Wednesday already. Few hours wasn't enough on catching up, gossiping and having fun that's why their friends, Michael and Suzy with their 2 kids, Malcolm and Andrew, invited them for Sunday for a nice chicken roast dinner. And they thought it's great idea for holiday Sunday.
After seen friends and have quick fresh up in a hotel rooms, they gone for a trip around. Their first place they fisit was Norwich Castle – founded by William the Conqueror. Norwich Castle stands proudly overlooking Norwich is steeped in a bloody history so it’s hardly surprising that a few angry souls remain, haunting the 900-year-old keep. The castle was also used as a place of imprisonment and execution. Ghost sightings include the decomposing remains of Robert Kett, hanging from the castle in a cage. Reports of another ghost, that of a black clothed woman, have been made since at least 1820 and are still noted to this day in the art gallery.
After a busy day Amy, Beth, Josh and Zoe end up in  Adam & Eve Pub. Just have rest, something to eat and drink. Of course there was some spooky reason why they chose this pub us well. In 1249, this inn on Bishopgate is said to be one of the oldest pubs in Norwich. If you fancy a drink, you might have the company of the ghost of Lord Sheffield, a nobleman who was caught up in Kett’s Rebellion in 1549 before being stabbed and dragged to the former inn on the site of the Adam & Eve, where he died. Reports say that he rings a bell when the pub is empty but don’t be deterred from visiting as he is known to be a friendly apparition, perhaps rewarding the hospitality of the pub that sheltered him in his final hours…
Next day they visited two very interested places.  Elm Hill in Norwich is known by being haunted by a zealous priest called Father Ignatius. He is thought to have cursed those that didn’t engage in prayer way back in 1864, eventually inciting an angry mob of superstitious townspeople to drive him out of the city. His vengeful spirit is said to have returned and curses passersby to this day. There is a separate ghoul that supposedly died in a fire whose footsteps can be heard walking around one of the houses on the street. People have also had strange encounters with disembodied footsteps clomping around the antique shop on Elm Hill.
The second place family visited at night was Maddermarket Theatre. To start with they watched show called The Secret Garden! It's based on a book by a same name, which also became a movie. This theatre is actually located on the site of an old Roman Catholic Church and is supposedly haunted by a monk seen walking from one of the reclaimed confessional boxes and across the stage. He has also been sighted in the cobbled alleyway that runs up to the theatre. Far from evil, this spirit has supposedly saved someone’s life who was about to be struck by a falling light and even comforted actors who forgot lines or mess up their parts.
On Friday they decide visit  Devil’s Alley, in near by town called King’s Lynn. The market town of King’s Lynn has many pretty streets and historical buildings but one street, now come to be known as Devil’s Alley, has a more sinister side. There used to be a mark in the cobbled alleyway that, according to legend, is the spot where the Devil himself stamped his hoof after a priest came upon him and banished him in a dramatic fury. The print has since disappeared but an eerie presence still remains.
On Saturday Amy get an idea to go for a trip to the Priory of Our Lady of Thetford, where it's been known for face a ghostly onslaught of hooded monks who allegedly roam the ruins’ grounds. Built in the 12th century, Thetford Priory was the burial site of many Earls and Dukes of the county before some tombs were removed in 1520 during the dissolution of the monasteries which may have disturbed more than just the mortal remains of those buried there… She decided to go their because people was reporting of hearing the monks chanting and singing in Latin have been documented as early as the 1930s. With other nearby spots that purportedly play host to ghouls and ghosts such as the Warren Lodge and Grimes Graves, this is a hub of paranormal activity. Which also Amy and Zoe could be a witnesses. Josh and Beth wasn't convinced about it.
The Sunday came. It was day when all of them could spend a day at their friends, as well enjoy a dinner. Michael and Suzy was very interested to listen to story of Beth and Amy adventures in a new place they moved in. Also Malcolm and Andrew was passionately listen to Josh and Zoe telling their stories from new place like last few days of holiday. All of them enjoyed a day together. They even invited Michel, Suzy and kids to visit them in Dudley and show them most interested places and place where they live.
Monday, last day of their holiday, Beth and Amy decided take kids to Cromer Pier. Cromer Pier is a Grade II listed seaside pier in the civil parish of Cromer on the north coast of the English county of Norfolk, 25 miles due north of the city of Norwich in the United Kingdom. The pier is the home of the Cromer Lifeboat Station and the Pavilion Theatre. It was an idea that would be nice to see some sea, while they on holiday. The beautiful listed pier in Cromer is a hub of activity during the summer months – think ice creams, fish and chips and seagulls. But when the colder months come creeping in, the old place reveals a more sinister side. It is good to have some more normal fun apart just be a people who don't have other hobbies then catching ghost. But it doesn't mean that the place doesn't have any spook to it.  The Pavilion Theatre, which is located on the pier and is supposedly haunted by ghosts seen by performers that appear on stage next to them. Theatre goers have also reported sightings of a man with a tall black hat and poltergeist activity too. There have also been sightings of a phantom island across the sea, supposedly the lost town of Shipden.
Next day, on Tuesday, it was time when the family came back home. After nice and adventure holiday they spend week in and area visiting area better. One of the days, while kids still had holiday from school, family went on a trip to Dudley Castle and Zoo. Great place for spend day off for few reasons. its a Zoo and Castle and it's an active spend time. Castle its a sources of a history. It's a day out. But as well if you like scary/haunted ideas to spend your time.
Dudley castle is a popular place know as one of the most haunted locations in the Midlands and perhaps the world. With history dating back to the Domesday book of 1086, this eerie location is full of ghosts, some of which have made the news. And this ghost is  the Grey Lady Ghost. The most haunted location in the castle is thought to be the chapel undercroft. In an Ancient Room there is a stone coffin, that is believed to have once held the body of one of the most castle’s most feared Lords, John Somery. Also you could find reports when people have reported seeing legs beside the coffin and they believed to be that of John himself. Other people reports include people having the feeling of their clothes being tugged at, and their bodies prodded. One of the best examples is story of the little girl flipped over a chair during a paranormal investigation. On another investigation, a dark shadowy figure was captured on camera. People have also reported strange grinding sounds coming from the chapel above, and obviously on investigation the sounds cease.
It was 27th August. Last few days of Zoe and Josh holiday. Also it was Zoe 16 birthday. They all went out for a meal. Some friends came for a little party in an evening. In September Zoe starting college. She decided IT course. She always wanted work with computers and do and computer art. Also to earn some little pocket money and earn some practice she started an YouTube channel. Because she found herself a new hobby: paranormal activities, scary stories and stuff are involed with this subject. She called her channel Creepy Intrest.

Sicarius Review
There are few things I enjoy more than a night out at the theatre. At the start of the week I had the pleasure of Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella at the Theatre Royal, next week I’m back there for The Kite Runner. I grew up in a culture of the arts, with parents who, every year, put on a pantomime with a local am-dram group. Therefore, when a friend and colleague asked if anyone would like to attend…

Aims
GroundWork's main aim is to connect art and environment in the belief that art can help us to see the environment differently, in new ways, and in greater detail. The greater attentiveness that we learn through art can help us to understand the environment better. Understanding leads to more sensitivity in the way the environment is managed. And a detailed understanding of environment leads to more inspiration for artists and greater power for them to inspire us, the viewing public, to see things more clearly and to respond with thoughtfulness and action.
Recommended by Marie to research what this gallery is doing in their pursuit of Art and Environment I am hoping to establish professional links with the founder and to discuss advice on teaching practice within this subject.
Furthermore, when I attended a workshop on Microplastics led by Dr Andrew Meyers from UEA Chemistry department, presented by the Royal Chemistry Association at Norwich St. John Maddermarket theatre, I stayed behind to ask for his opinion on establishing Artist-Scientist links with NUA and UEA. He pointed me in the direction of the GroundWork gallery because he was a part of a workshop there which focused on Up-cycling old waste and collected trash -plastic; he was invited to explain the science of the material during the Art workshop and I find this model to have a lot of potential for success - I’d like to be involved in this structure myself

Visiting Norfolk with Original Cottages
Holidaying beside the seaside has arguably become as important a part of English culture as the industrial revolution, the country’s rich maritime history and the humble full English breakfast. Indeed, for every person who is familiar with the great works of William Shakespeare and Charles Dickins, there are probably as many people who remember fondly the antics of Punch and Judy across beaches and piers throughout the UK.
As a holiday destination, Norfolk certainly has its share of golden coastlines and seaside attractions that make the region a fantastic place to visit, but its beaches are literally just the tip of what is waiting to be discovered. In fact, a brief investigation into what Norfolk has to offer will quickly yield a rich history of culture, some wonderful family attractions and a veritable smuggler’s treasure-trove of local distilleries and breweries.
  Historic Tourism
The discovery of flint tools and prehistoric footprints inHappisburgh, Norfolk suggests that the first human visitors to the English Isles arrived some 800,000 years ago. Over the following years Norfolk has continued to develop as an incredibly vibrant region and amassed an impressive cast of notable characters including; the Romans, Boudicca and Iceni; the iconic Lord Horatio Nelson who was born in Burnham Thorpe; and the heroic Nurse Edith Cavell, who was born in Swardeston and braved a firing squad after saving allied troops from German captivity during the First World War. These impressive historical credentials have gifted Norfolk with a tapestry of fascinating castles, churches and museums for visitors to explore.Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery for example, is a fascinating venue situated at the heart of Norwich and the city’s great shopping and eclectic selection of restaurants.
[caption id="attachment_27183" align="alignnone" width="1008"] Norwich Castle[/caption]
Beyond the walls of Norwich’s impressive castle, the Norfolk countryside is dotted with several equally grand historic buildings and gardens. These include the tranquil Blickling Estate, Oxburgh Hall and Thetford Priory, which represents one of the most important East Anglian monasteries.
The Thick of It
With a heritage resplendent with early pioneers, brave heroes and notable entertainers including Stephen Fry and Only Fools and Horses’ 'Trigger', Roger Lloyd Pack, it is hardly surprising to learn that Norfolk boasts a great many attractions for visitors of all ages and interests. For those looking to take advantage of the region’s historical roots while putting their own imaginations to the test, History Mystery operates the world’s first escape games to be held within a working church at Guildhall in Norwich, as well as at Blickling Church. Equally, for explorers looking for even more physically demanding adventures, Norfolk has several locations offering paintball, archery, extreme adventures centres and even air glider clubs that are guaranteed to get the adrenalin flowing.
Of course, no discussion on Norfolk would be complete without mentioning the idyllic Norfolk Broads and the region’s stunning beaches. Each of these stunning outdoor escapes offers a wide variety of sailing, fresh and salt water fishing, walking and sporting activities. Norfolk also lays claim to being one the UK’s finest destinations for birdwatching and is also home to vibrant populations of seals, butterflies and deer, meaning that there is plenty to discover for budding   ornithologists and wildlife enthusiasts alike.
[caption id="attachment_27184" align="alignnone" width="1008"] great ouse riverside winter morning[/caption]
Metropolitan Comforts
Although Norfolk may not be the most obvious choice when considering city breaks, Norwich is actually home to some fantastic high-street and independent retail outlets, as well as several theatres and cinema venues, including the city’s Riverside development, the Maddermarket Theatre and the Norwich Theatre Royal to name but a few.
All of these attractions and more are available to visitors while staying in one of many unique holiday cottages situated directly within the city, as well as to guests that opt to stay in one of Norfolk’s many countryside retreats. These include Lilac Barn, situated in a quiet countryside location that is close to the Broads and some of the region’s sandy beaches.
The spirits industry is seeing a boom in craft and independent distilleries, especially south of the Scottish border.
A number of distilleries have popped up around England, with Norfolk being home to two of them, St. George’s Distillery and Adnam’s Copper House Distillery.
Both of these are leading the way in the English Whisky scene and offer a glimpse into a burgeoning industry.
The English Whisky Co.
Norfolk became home to the first English Whisky distillery in 120 years, when the St. George’s Distillery was founded in Norwich in 2005.
St. George’s is the home of The English Whisky Company, who was founded by Lincolnshire man James Nelstrop and his son Andrew. They created the first 29 casks of English Whisky in over a century in 2006 and have been striving ever since.
The exciting thing about The English Whisky Company is that all their ingredients are sourced from England, as close to the distillery as possible.
And since they bear the name of England’s patron Saint, it makes sense that they would be a truly English Whisky producer.
St. George’s offer several different tours with a range of prices and suitable to everyone, whether you’re a Whisky enthusiast or just curious.
  Adnams Copper House Distillery
Adnams may not have the title of the first distillery in England in 120, but it does hold the title of most energy efficient distillery in the UK.
Their Copper House Distillery is based in Southwold and they do everything – from malting to bottling – on site, and with sustainability at the forefront.
Like St. George’s, Adnams source all of their ingredients locally, from the same place that they source the ingredients for their beers. They only create small batch drams and have the newest technology installed to allow them to control every process to the finest details.
Adnams itself is a larger company, with pub chains and breweries across the UK, but their Copper House Distillery has a certain charm to it. It feels more like a family run craft distillery and is well worth a visit.
Tours are available at the distillery and give you a real sense of what Adnams are trying to capture. You’ll learn everything about their sustainability and energy efficiency, followed by a tutored tasting that will allow you to get to know their malt a lot better.

Echo Youth Theatre's Rocking School of Rock
If you’d said a few years back that one day I’d be in a small provincial theatre watching a bunch of kids bounce about in a Lloyd Webber musical with a book by Julian Fellowes (he of Downton Abbey fame), I’d have laughed you off the stage. “Not my thang,” I would have said. “Give me Superstar and maybe Coat of Many Colours, but his other stuff? Nah, not for me.” But there I was last night…

Haunted Buildings in Norwich
Victorian Female Murder Victim
19 Magdalen Street
It is said that staff in the shop have heard sounds of footsteps in empty parts of the building, also random cold spots and drafts and even a shadowy figure spotted on the staircase. The haunting is closely linked to a murder which took place in the late nineteenth century.
Sam the Lord Sheffield
Adam and Eve Public House
Sam the Lord Sheffield died at the inn in 1949 (he was nicknamed Sam) but he now makes strange appearances in the building. Sometimes staff even report a weird feeling of someone running fingers through their hair, even though they can't see anyone nearby. In 2006 one man reported seeing a ghostly hand holding a decapitated head in the pub’s car park.
Lady in Grey
Augustine Steward House
The plague killed the occupants in this house and the house was boarded up and marked with a red cross on the front door; to prevent anyone going in. Unfortunately the child of the parents survived, she died of starvation and was unable to escape. Her ghost now haunts both the Augustine Steward House and the Tombland alleyway.
Poltergeist
Cathedral Close
Items began to move on their own after the builders broke up an old stone staircase in the building along there, obviously angering or disturbing the ghost. The activity died down after church officials were brought in to investigate the scene.
Highwayman
Coachmaker’s Arms Public House
A figure roams the pub who looks similar to Dick Turpin stands at the end of the bar and has been mistaken for a paying customer. A ghostly woman in black walks down the staircase knocking over bottles and glasses without a cause.
Mr Issacs
Cupit House
Since the building had an extension put onto it, the ghost of Mr Issacs has been heard walking up and down in the upstairs of the house. Evidence uncovered that the Rabbi killed his wife, and as a punishment, his sprit returns
Father Ignatius
Elm Hill
This holy man cursed several people who died soon after, so the locals forced the man to flee the city immediately. His shadow walks along Elm Hill, carrying a big black bible in his hands, still cursing the bystanders.
John Aggas
Henry’s
last seen sitting on a chair by a window, his friendly phantom is told to be John Aggas, who was a former landlord murdered by his brother in law. John Aggas would make himself known to children who stayed at the inn, he perches at the end of their beds and tells them ghost stories.
Black Robed Priest
Maddermarket Theatre
Once a church, this theatre is now known for the infrequent sightings of this spectral priest.
Lady in Grey
Maid’s Head Hotel
An old woman dressed in grey walks around the hotel with the smell of lavender following her. She is believed to be the former maid at the hotel. Also a former dead mayor walks around the courtyard of the building shaking his head.
Old Lady in a Black Dress
Norwich Castle
The first ghost sighting here dates all the way back to 1820 when loads of prisoners were scared half to death by something indescribable. More recently working staff at the castle have said to have seen the old lady float around the castle grounds. There are also rumours that the hill on which the castle stands conceals the grave of an old king, together with his hoard of silver and gold.
Flying Coach
Pockthorpe Area
A team of headless horses driven by headless coachman would be seen flying over the rooftops of this area in the city.
Dark Figures
Private residence, Silver Road
A former occupier of the house claimed that the lights would flick on and off unexpectedly and a dark figure could be seen, also covers would be forcefully be removed from the bed. Neighbours reported hearing sounds from the building after the occupier left.
Little Boy
Wild Man Pub
A former staff member claimed to have seen a young boy run across the bar area and the suddenly disappear up the staircase, though no trace of him could be found. He is thought to have died in the cellar when a fire broke out, also heavy barrels are heard moving across the floor late at night.

Echo Youth Theatre Presents Little Shop of Horrors
We had a little taste of Echo Youth’s Little Shop of Horrors at the Maddermarket’s recent charity gig and thought, yep, that’s right up our alley. The quirky musical comedy features Skid Row florist Seymour in a kinda horticultural ménage à trois with co-worker Audrey and Audrey 2, his pet pot plant with an insatiable appetite and bad attitude. What’s not to like? Taking on a cult classic,…

Madder Mates at the Maddermarket
Times are hard and, like so many others, the Maddermarket Theatre, former chapel and the spiritual home of am-dram in Norwich, is feeling the pinch. They desperately need an injection of cash to keep the footlights on. And so to raise a few coppers for the coffers, they put on a three-night explosion of talent. We pitched up for the middle fundraiser billed as… “Showcasing the talents of some of…

He's Behind You!
He’s Behind You!
Norwich’s Maddermarket Theatre has an eclectic offering coming up in the next few months judging by the ‘what’s on’ brochure that dropped on our mat. Patrons can select from a pick-and-mix diet of comedy, drag, drama, tribute acts and music old and new – whatever takes their fancy. And what took our fancy? Well this, obviously. Who can resist a filthy title like that? Usually, ‘Dick Whittington…
