Hello Master Detective, what do you think of Files 1113-1115?

File 1113-1115 Review

This case (File 1113-1115) was a case that I could safely say was one of the best DC cases I have ever read.

For starters, it had a very unique story narrative, where it put Iori Muga on the center front as the protagonist "detective" of this case, while sidelining the actual main character (Conan) for majority of it (especially at the start). It was to me an extremely appreciated amount of spotlight and deep-dive into Muga's character, that Gosho has been hyping up so much since his introduction (through Animal Crossing hints). We got to get into his head and see his true level and capabilities as a detective, that was compared to Furuya's by Muga's former classmate, Kazami Yuya (File 1115).

This level of competence was obviously as I have been expecting (as someone who has been suspecting Iori Muga to be the true identity behind the disguises of Rum, the no.2 of the BO that earned the awe of Kudo Yusaku).

The biggest highlight of this whole case however goes to the awaited and thoroughly developed relationship between Muga and Momiji, where we learned how they met and why Muga decided to quit the Public Security and become Momiji's butler (File 1114).

It was such a wholesomely depicted encounter in Muga's life, that was teased to have been depressing when he worked undercover as "Sakakibara" (File 1090).

Iori Muga, who was officially revealed to have been a Public Security officer of the NPA, was tasked 3 years ago to secure the summer villa of the former prime minister (FPM), who was revealed to be Ōoka Momiji's grandpa, and by chance encountered thugs that gave him a large cut on his right arm (File 1114).

It was then revealed that the thugs, who had a grudge against FPM Ōoka, followed the FPM's car that was actually occupied by Momiji, who was on her way to check out the villa and who eventually ended up hiding in the storage floor where she coincidentally was encountered by wounded Muga.

This then lead to the heartfelt scene, where the hardened and semi-jaded Muga, who was used to tough out all the hardships that came with his work, get treated and taken care of with kindness for a change by the most unexpected seemingly weak person he was supposed to protect. Momiji also added that beautiful reversed proverb ("even the smaller can serve as the bigger") to further justify her actions, which forever changed Muga's viewpoint in his life.

This meaningful scene lead to Muga realizing a more healing path for himself, where he serves as kind-hearted Momiji's butler (File 1115). This is evident just from how much Momiji meant for Muga as a hostage, for the thugs to use to manipulate him with, through out this case, and how he was ready to literally sacrifice his life to protect her by taking a knife for her (File 1115).

All of this masterfully written scenes of their relationship was topped off with not only Muga also in return being protected by the Hyakunin isshu deck that took the stabbing, as if to symbolize Momiji's love/passion keeping him alive, but also everything coming full circle with Momiji repeating her same beautiful reversed proverb (that she doesn't realize meant so much for him).

This case made Iori Muga instantly rise for me as a favorite on par with Momiji, if not beyond (if things continues as great as this). We got a lot of fanservice action-scenes and cute relationship dynamics between Muga & Momiji that really satisfied all my expectations.

Their Master-Butler relationship is definitely among the best of this whole series after this case, and I cannot wait to see where Muga's character development is gonna go from here on.

As for the other major scene of this case, we officially got the scene that Gosho hyped up was coming in Let's Talk Day 2023 between Amuro and a certain big figure... and it was revealed to be the mysterious Falcon Elder, that was recently introduced in File 1102.

The Falcon elder finally got some lines, and he ordered Amuro through a phone, that was left in the train that Amuro entered, to investigate Edogawa Conan (File 1115).

This scene was further meant to push the narrative that someone dangerous (potentially a BO/Boss figure) has set their eyes on Conan, since this was following the previous scene where the Falcon Elder cracked the phone with Conan & Jirokichi's face on it seemingly out of anger (File 1102).

This is however clearly setup to be one of Gosho's classic misleads, and it is at this point as good as confirmed that the Falcon Elder is rather FPM Ōoka (Momiji's grandpa). There are good amounts of hints from this case alone that supports this.

For starters, this case overall focused a lot on Momiji's grandfather and his power as FPM, which is conveniently set up right before the resolution where the Falcon elder reappears. This is similar to how the previous mysterious elder ("Vader"), who is most likely Haneda Yasuharu (Kohji's father), showed up in the resolution (File 1096) just after Mary referenced the helpful father-friend benefactor (Kohji's father) who has been funding her and Masumi's livelihood (File 1095).

Secondly, Rei went to the train platform casually with Kazami (his public security coworker), as if his business wasn't with someone he would hide his true affiliations from (like the black organization). This basically debunks that the Falcon Elder is a member of the BO. On the other hand, it fits perfectly with that he was meeting with FPM Ōoka, who was using his connections with the Public Security (as confirmed in File 1088 & 1114) to assign one of their agents a personal task for his benefit.

Lastly, the train car (13) that Rei entered was empty and the Falcon elder was actually waiting in a second train next to it with his phone ready to call a phone left there for Rei. This phone was left in the exact same train car 13 that the Osaka & Ōoka duo came out of. The fact that the train car, with the drop-off phone, Rei entered was the same train car that the whole case was spent on with the Ōoka duo is more supporting clues to the Falcon elder being FPM Ōoka, who had Muga/Momiji drop off the phone in that train car for the assigned agent from Public Security to later find.

As for what FPM Ōoka is planning with his investigation on Edogawa Conan, I'm leaning towards it being tied to what I previously speculated regarding why he cracked his Jirokichi-Conan-displaying phone out of anger... that it's related to his rivalry with the Suzuki conglomorate (which Gosho confirmed was slightly richer than the Ōoka Group). Since Jirokichi has been profitting on Conan's "kid killer" title and boosted his publicity in the news because of it, it would make sense for a bitter rival of his to go after his assets/allies and in any shape or form to try to eliminate them (for example by bribary). With that in mind, FPM Ōoka could be trying to gain as much information on "kid killer" Edogawa Conan as possible to figure out his weakness, that he can exploit for his benefit instead.

Apart from that, there were very nice spotlights put on Heiji, Kazuha and Momiji, and they all felt like they showcased their own strengths, which was also another cherry on top to this whole case.

It was also nice to get a Conan and Muga team-up for the first time. This part of the case is something I could see carrying more weight/consequence in the plot down the line, especially if Muga ends up being the one Conan should've been hiding his capabilities from (as he has been doing with Wakita). It would also be quite a comedic irony that Conan is rather trying to earn Muga's praise instead (File 1115).

When it comes to where the story is currently heading, it seems like Gosho is settting up a big romance case, since he foreshadowed that Ran was looking into scenic spots and that Ran was planning to talk about something important with Kazuha (File 1113).

It's possible that Gosho could be setting up a ShinRan romance plot, where Ran could be planning some kind of event, like a double-date or/and a birthday celebration (since Ran is the one who invited Kazuha and was looking into scenic places).

Gosho also foreshadowed a potential Hyakunin Isshu competition case involving Momiji, that could be following this current shinkansen threat case, which could be the setting for an upcoming Heizuha romance plot (File 1113).

Considering that we have finally arrived at Volume 105 (another 5 volumes since the last big Rum development), the climax of Rum arc could be right around the corner following the 5-volume pattern. If we are getting a long Heizuha + ShinRan romance case, then it's possible that we could be intertwining it all with the main plot (since a ShinRan date could involve Shinichi's physical reappearance for Rum to discover and target) and transition it into a big Rum climax case that finishes off the whole Rum plot in the remaining 9 chapters of volume 105 (File 1116-1124).

Volume 105 keyhole is also most likely gonna finally feature Iori Muga after this recent case (which would be very timely if it's also the volume that contains the Rum climax and if it reveals that Muga indeed was the main antagonist of this arc all along).

HUT IN HET BOS ALS WIJKPLAATS IN DE NATUUR

Een wondere wereld is het, die ik binnenga in Museum Galerie Heerenveen, op dit moment. Een mysterieus bos betreed ik, een magisch woud. Maar is het wel een boomgaard dat ik zie, een veld met oprijzend gewas. Ik kijk in de donkerte van de duisternis, de nachtelijke uren waarin de betovering van het onzichtbare op een hoogtepunt is. Want er is niets te zien achter de stakerige boomstammen, zo zolang het niet wordt aangelicht. Zo zolang er geen lichtpunt is die de omgeving waarneembaar maakt. Rob Regeer ontsteekt daarom een licht op dat schijnt vanuit een verborgen bron in zijn donkere werken. Is dit het heldere licht van een volle maan of de jager met zaklamp op zoek naar een prooi, jongelui die gedropt zijn en verbeten een uitweg zoeken. Het geeft althans een onwerkelijke sfeer, zet een surrealistische werkelijkheid.

In dat decor spelen oranje stippen een bijrol waar een eenzaam huis de dubieuze hoofdrol krijgt toegeschreven. Die oplichtende punten lijken vuurvliegjes, die het licht van de dag aten om het uit te spuwen in de nacht. Het daglicht klinkt zo door in de nachtelijke duisternis. Yin en yang. Maar het blijken geen puntjes te zijn, maar putjes in de compositie. Wie het werk tot op armlengte nadert ontdekt dat de schildering eigenlijk een reliëf is. De materie ligt dik op het doek. De stammen verheffen zich waarin de putjes verf zich verlagen. De vuurvliegjes blijken kleine klankschalen. Het licht echoot zo geluidloos door het bomenbos.

Die hoogdruk in de verflaag geeft de sfeer een werkelijk voelbare diepte. Het is geen geschilderd perspectief, maar een opgelegde tastbare derde dimensie. Regeer laat overigens geen vergezicht zien, de omgeving is plat tweedimensionaal weergegeven. Er is geen doorkijk naar een einder. Maar door te werken in beeldverhoging en met zichtverlaging wordt een natuurlijke ruimte gecreëerd. Een vierde dimensie is gemaakt door kleurspeling en lichtverhouding. In deze ruimte komt alles samen, voert het gevoel de boventoon. Is de werkelijkheid abstract, versimpeld de realiteit. In de derde worden vragen gesteld die in de vierde dimensie lijken beantwoord.

Regeer maakt niet zomaar ondefinieerbare platen van de realiteit. De kunstenaar wil mijn verbeelding prikkelen door ongerijmde voorstellingen te maken. Mij op een verkeerd been zetten zodat ik ga nadenken over wat ik zie. Mij ga bezinnen op de actualiteit. Maar eerlijk gezegd zie ik het wereldnieuws en de huidige problemen in het ecosysteem niet terug in zijn betrekkelijke schoonheid. De hut in het bos schept vooral een unheimisch gevoel, maar misschien is dat juist ook wel het moment van bezinnen. Nadenken over hoe leeg en onwerkelijk de werkelijkheid straks zal zijn, wanneer wij niets doen aan de afbraak van de natuur door ons toedoen. Want het bos van Regeer is ontbladerd, zelfs kijk ik wel dwars door stammen heen. De afbraak heeft hij in zijn schilderijen ingezet. En daarin huist de mens in een gezellig aangelichte sfeer in een huisje midden in het bos. Als een Bijbelse Noach, van God verlaten maar toch zo dicht bij het antwoord op de vraag.

Regeer verheerlijkt deze verlatenheid door de intieme toevlucht, het huiselijke asiel, meermalen in 24-delig tableau te plaatsen. Voortdurend hetzelfde huis van onder gezien, in een gewijzigde kleurstelling en een helder tot duister licht. De aldoor veranderende weersomstandigheid ter plaatse. Een eenvoudige opzet die zich telkens herhaalt, een weerklinkende sfeer. Diezelfde optrek komt terug in andere hoedanigheid met een meer uitgewerkte omgeving. Maar aldoor blijft het vreemde en vage gevoel. Het is wel een wijkplaats, maar je weet niet wat je kunt verwachten van de inhoud. Wat daarbinnen achter dat verlichte venster zich afspeelt blijft de vraag. Zo stelt Regeer in zijn werk vragen die onbeantwoord blijven. De oplossing moet ik zelf aangeven. Zo zoals dat meestal werkt in en door een kunstwerk. De beschouwer geeft bescheid.

Een apart onderdeel in deze opstelling bij Museum Galerie Heerenveen is het plateau met ruimtelijke bouwwerken in MDF. Op klein formaat zijn deze huizen modellen van hutten en kappellen. Onderkomens belangrijk in de omgeving van Kellerjoch in Oostenrijk. Voor Regeer ter inspiratie een geliefde plek. In de bergen en door de bossen. Om de sfeer raak te treffen was het voor hem niet genoeg enkel de omgeving weer te geven op het geschilderde vlak, maar wilde hij ook de ruimte in. Daarvan is het dorp de weerslag. Zijn dorp, het Regeer. Aldus wordt de bezoeker van deze kunstruimte de wereld van Rob Regeer in getrokken. Ervaart de schoonheid die niet schijnt te kloppen. De verbeelding krijgt er de ruimte zich te uiten. Het werk ontroerd op een onbestemde manier. Het past esthetisch juist, maar achter die luister klinkt een duister geluid. Het gebeelde mysterie is onheilspellend.

Food in Northern Spain (No. 3)

Cantabrian cuisine includes seafood from the Cantabrian Sea, salmon and trout from the upper basins of the rivers, vegetables and dairy products from the valleys, and veal and game from the Cantabrian mountains.

Seafood is widely used, from the entire coast and the Bay of Santander in particular, including clams, mussels, pod razors, cockles, crabs, barnacles, crayfish, snails, lobster, and squid. Fish include sea bass, hake, scorpion fish, anchovy, sardine, and albacore.

The albacore or bonito del norte is used in one of the most typical dishes of the region: marmita or sorropotún. Some of the most renowned Cantabrian dishes are hake in green sauce (merluza en salsa verde), squid with onions (maganos encebollados) and cuttlefish in its ink sauce (cachon en su tinta), and clam casserole. "Rabas" (Squid sticks deep fried) is the most popular snack in the coast, typically companied with a white wine or a vermouth.

Processed anchovies from the town of Santoña are highly appreciated and have a first class reputation worldwide.

Various parodies by Muga.

I only bothered to check out Rolo's, and it parodies the same CD (an audio drama, I would assume) as this picture. It is titled ヤンデレの女の子に死ぬほど愛されて眠れない (I can't sleep because I'm loved to death by a yandere girl). In Rolo's case the title was changed to 'yandere boy', for obvious reasons. Hey Mtx! I read your latest theory on 1106-1109 about Rum's Identity

Gotta say man it was good, you did some pretty neat observations.

I actually read it quite a while back and had some questions about it but was too lazy to write them down

So here they are :

Rum wants to kill Asaka because she heard her voice.Then wasn't it Rum's fake voice (Wakita version) according to your theory so why would Rum want to kill someone who heard his fake voice?

And Muga already seems to be pretty young.Why would he need to take aptx to get his eyes back.He would turn into a teenager if he did.

Sorry, I forgot to ask one more thing. What do you think about Muga's age? It isn't fake then?

Rum's fake voice is an impersonation of his father's voice, who is an already established prominent figure. The impersonated voice is something that he most likely carries in important business and VIP settings (since we know this identity acted as a spokesman for Karasuma Renya 47 years ago), so one could even argue that it's more dangerous for the "father" voice to get exposed than his true voice, especially if Rum has seperated his "Muga" identity from any public/sensitive affairs related to the BO/Karasuma.

As for Rum considering "turning back the clock" on his right eye, if Rum is suspecting that de-aging is a possible side-effect of APTX4869 drug based on Sherry's research notes and the mysterious reappearance of Kudo Shinichi after getting drugged (as mentioned in my review), then he could be planning on finding Kudo Shinichi not only for eliminating loose ends, but also for research purposes. Rum is likely aiming to see how the drug affected Shinichi in order to progress APTX4869 research and perfect the drug, so that its effects are more precise and controlled. I don't think Rum is considering taking a risk by directly taking APTX4869, but rather hoping to develop it to a point were it isn't toxic and where they can target its effects to his right eye (through injections for example).

As for Muga's age, I don't think his age can be real in my theory scenario, since he would be too young in age and physique to be capable of impersonating his father 17 years ago. I do still believe that he is 5-years older (35 years old like the first Rum suspect, Kansuke) than what he claims to be, meaning that he worked with Kuroda ~7 years ago when he was around Rei's current age (29).

DENKBEELDIGE DROOMWERELDEN BEVOLKEN DE GALERIE VAN HET MUSEUM

Loop ik door het landschap slaat mijn harde schijf allerlei indrukken op. In mijn brein worden gedachten gevormd die waarnemingen zijn van de werkelijkheid. Later kan ik deze ervaringen oproepen en mijmeren over wat ik zag. In die filosofie wordt wat ik heb gezien positief misvormd door het gevoel dat die omgeving bij me opriep. Ik zie in gedachten dus niet de realiteit, maar dat wat mijn beleving ervan tot werkelijkheid maakt. De gewaarwording is een samenspel van zien, horen en ruiken. Deze zintuiglijke observatie verwordt tot een abstract gevoel. In gedachten beleef ik de sensatie van mijn landschap opnieuw. Mijn landschap, want ik eigen mij dat wat ik zag toe. Zo beleeft ieder individu, elk mens, de omgeving op een eigen manier. Maakt er een eigen sfeer van. Een persoonlijk decor waarin de beleving een hoofdrol speelt.

Dat is wat Jacobien de Rooij doet. Al de indrukken die zij opdoet in de natuur, het landschap, worden tot haar omgeving, haar wereld. Naar de waarneming tekent zij het landschap uit. Maar het is haar waarneming, haar persoonlijke gewaarwording. In krijt verbeeldt zij kleurig wat ze tijdens tochten in gedachten opsloeg en meenam naar huis. In het atelier worden die flarden realiteit tot een nieuwe werkelijkheid. Als het ware als collage opgebouwd en nergens exact volgens de waarneming uitgewerkt. Het zijn deeltjes van die werkelijkheid tot een nieuwe realiteit gevormd.

Het lijkt naar de waarneming gemaakt te zijn en in feite is dat ook zo. Maar niet de waarneming zoals ik deze opsla en meeneem wanneer ik door het landschap ga. Want ieder mens neemt verschillende dingen waar, heeft oog voor andere details in het geheel. Van meerdere tijden en plaatsen kunnen die observaties tot een enkele compositie worden. Ieder werk van De Rooij is een reconstructie van indrukken en invalshoeken, gevoelens en stemmingen. Daar de emotie een grote rol speelt in het geziene beeld. Zoals de smaak een gerecht sensationeel kan maken, terwijl dat opgemaakte eten ook al oogstrelend is.

Jacobien de Rooij maakt van de natuur een persoonlijk systeem. Door alle waarnemingen bij elkaar te harken kan ze een samenspel van verbeeldingen maken. Een samenstelling van de zichtbare werkelijkheid, door deze te combineren met verborgen details die voor haar in gedachten meespelen. Het is zo dat het kunstenaarsoog, door jaren training van anders kijken en geconcentreerd zien, meer waarneemt dan dat het ‘gewone’ oog dat doet en kan. De kunstenaar kijkt om de waarneming heen en ontdekt een nieuwe wereld. Dat gezicht achter de werkelijkheid geeft een fris inzicht op de zichtbare realiteit.

De Rooij laat meer zien dan dat er in feite te zien is. En eigenlijk ook weer niet, want alles dat zij op papier zet bestaat en is, komt voor en speelt zich af. Alleen niet in de situatie zoals zij deze op papier zet. Jacobien misleidt met haar werk mijn blik. De tekeningen als schilderijen mystificeren mijn zien. Het is een mysterie hoe de verbeelding de aandacht zo kan concentreren op iets wat werkelijkheid lijkt maar dat niet is. Een imaginaire wereld herinnerend aan wat ik ooit in werkelijkheid eens gezien heb. In haar idee krijgt die wereld een dimensie meer. Een maat meer dan dat wat ik om mij heen zie. Denkend aan de werkelijkheid, een gedachte toevoegend. Een magisch denkbeeld.

Bij de tentoonstelling ‘Systema Naturae’ van haar werk in Museum Galerie Heerenveen tref ik de uitgave “Kijk dan!” aan. Een boek waarin De Rooij een overzicht van haar tekeningen laat zien tot de datum van verschijnen in het jaar 2020. Gelijktijdig was er in de maand september van dat jaar een tentoonstelling van dat werk aan huis en in haar atelier. Over de werken in die uitgave liet ik al eens eerder mijn gedachten gaan. “Telkens stelt ze zichzelf op de proef en probeert haar eigen kunnen voortdurend te overtroeven. Ieder volgend werk moet meer sprekend zijn. Elk vorig werk is dat zeker.” Nu, enkele jaren verder, heeft De Rooij haar plafond niet bereikt. Nog voortdurend bevecht zij gedetailleerd elk formaat. In handzame afmeting werkt zij even monumentaal als op menshoge composities. Eens schijn ik aan de oever van een kabbelende rivier te zitten, dan lijk ik al snorkelend een blik onder water te werpen, op een ander moment spiegelt mijn beeld zich in een raam waardoor ik de omgeving zie. Ook toont ze me de microscopische wereld, de aarde waaruit leven ontstaat. Kiezels die hun vorm krijgen in de tijd en kleuren naar het moment van beleven. Flora dirigeert het orkest van tinten, transparantie speelt de eerste viool.

Daarnaast schijnt het dat Jacobien de Rooij de traditie van de schoolplaat voortzet. Cornelis Jetses en Marinus Koekkoek onder andere propten hun tekeningen vol met details. Zo dat de meester zijn breedvoerige verhaal met behulp van de aanwijsstok kon illustreren. De wereld werd aanschouwelijk gemaakt, want één tekening zegt meer dan honderd woorden. Vaak werden deze platen bevolkt door bijvoorbeeld dieren en insecten die je normaal niet bij elkaar in de buurt ziet. Ze passen in een bepaalde habitat echter wel samen. Dat is wat De Rooij ook wel doet in haar werk. In haar jungle zitten dieren gebroederlijk naast elkaar, die zich gewoonweg tot op de dood bevechten. In dat opzicht kunnen het Bijbelse illustraties zijn, waarin de wolf bij het lam verblijft, de luiaard bij een geitenbok neerligt, een kalf, een jonge leeuw en gemest vee bij elkaar zijn, de koe en berin samen weiden. Een utopie, een ideale wereld. Kijk dan!
