Mazda RX-8 Concept, 2001. A prototype for the production RX-8 which utilised the "Freestyle Doors" from the Neospace concept. The RX-8 used Mazda's 1.3 litre RENESIS twin-rotor Wankel engine mounted in the front/mid position (behind the front wheel line) for optimal weight distribution.
Mazda RX-8 Spirit R, 2012. A limited edition model that marked the end of RX-8 production. Sales were limited to 1000 units for the Japanese market though this one has found its way to Transport World in Invercargill, New Zealand. The Spirit R was the fastest and most powerful version of the RX-8 with an upgraded version of Renesis II 6 port twin rotor Wankel engine that gave it a top speed of 170 mph.
