Watching For Me and My Gal (1942) for the first time, and while the film is a middling MGM effort, the scene described above had me SCREAMING because I was unaware of this trivia.
(Image is from IMDB and says “When it was decided that the costume worn by Mártha Eggerth while she performed "Do I Love You?" revealed too much cleavage, all close-ups of her during the number were blurred at the bodice.”)

RIP Marta (Martha) Eggerth (1912-2013), one of the loveliest singing stars/actresses of the 1920s, 30s, 40s and beyond. Although I have never seen her European films, she was quite good in two of Judy Garland's movies, For Me and My Gal and Presenting Lily Mars. I had the great joy of seeing her up-close at a live event in 2006, where she was interviewed by Nimet Habachy at the Metropolitan Museum Art, including some wonderful singing by the 93-year-old Marta.
