oh my god it’s a WALL
#personal#the saga of the roof drain leak#the leak started essentially the day i moved in (in july 2021)#bc the previous tenant had screwed something into the wall there and consequently pierced the drainpipe#and then he removed the screws when he moved out#so there were 2 holes in the pipe#and every time it rained the water damage would get worse#i put in a repair request right away but nothing happened#wound up asking my dad to help me patch the holes (essentially he put 2 screws back in w/ plumbing sealant)#and then there was a big gaping hole in the wall & a grey drainpipe with screws sticking out of it#for months and months#it is now finally fixed!!!!!

UPDATE ON CURRENT HOUSE SITUATION:
Ok, so I asked my mom if she had home insurance. She said yes, but only the structure of the house. Once she fixes the roof, then she can get the rest of the house insurance. I have no idea why that is, that’s just what she told me.
Our solution for the leak is that she believes that the pipe leading outside’s seal is very poor, so we gotta reseal it with caulk, but maybe we can get some Flex Seal and use that. But we gotta wait til Monday when it’s warmer out and not raining. For now, we’ll just keep having the towels catch the rain water for now.
I’ll still be looking for a place, but that’s gonna be quite a while. I’m sure my sisters are willing to help me look at places in their cities to talk with people, so that’ll be helpful.

Life! UGH!
I intended to announce that I have now gotten the money to pay for my photos, but my internet went for a few hours. Wouldn’t you know, I now have a new crisis!!
So my roof is leaking! A strong thunderstorm hit tonight and suddenly there was a waterfall in the kitchen!! Scrambling into the attic I discovered it wasn’t just leaking around the chimney, but I had to climb over another small leak.
But the worst thing is, it isn’t just leaking like crazy, but it is leaking directly on the wiring! The main wiring running the length of the house is being leaked on at multiple spots, AND directly on branchings! This is seventy year old wiring getting soaked!!!!
Anyway, it’s 1am, I feel unwell already, I’m worried sick, and somehow I have to get up very early tomorrow to work on on this.
I have to drive to investigate the problem, then get gas (I’m out again), drive to the next town to get what I need for the repairs, do the repairs, find something to shield the wiring in case it still leaks, and all before is can rain again!
The good news is I have a “break” tomorrow with only a 30% chance of rain. The bad news is, there is heavy rains coming in right behind it.
And one last worry to occupy my mind before I sleep: I heard a heck of a crack and crash outside. Please, please, PLEASE don’t let a tree have fallen on something important! If I have to deal with that too….
(My father made this fiberglass roof thirty years ago, and it hasn’t leaked a drop in all that time. And NOW that I feel on the verge of a breakdown in does it?? If only I still had resin to fiberglass a repair.)

#they wanted to raise our rent for 'repairs but its gonna cost 50-60k to fix just the roof and gutters#that doesnt include everything else thats making it almost unliveable like the floors and the squirrels in the wall and the leaks and the#electrical and the mold and the no shower and the sinkhole under the porch and the porch itself#ect#so we are probably just gonna move unfortunately#if we cam find an apartment 😭😭#everywhere we can afford isnt available#so that's lovely#rlly upset abt it
