Lancia Thema Coupé 6V, 1985, by Boneschi. A one-off 2-door version of the Thema. Lancia's large saloon had been styled at Italdesign and was based on the "Type 4" platform it shared with Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Saab. Carrozzeria Boneschi shortened the wheelbase and lengthened the front doors of the flagship V6 Thema but otherwise left the conservative lines of the Giugiaro design intact. The high cost of the conversion meant that plans for a limited production run were abandoned and the car remained a one-off. It changed hands in 2018 for €5000.

Lancia Gamma Scala Concept, 1980, by Pinifarina. Introduced in 1976, the 4-door boxer-engined Gamma was a sales failure and the saloon's fastback styling was blamed. Pininfarina designer Aldo Brovarone, who had designed the more successful Gamma Coupé, presented this 4 door saloon based on the Coupé at the Paris Motor Show. It was suggested that car could be in production within 18 months to "rescue" the Gamma from oblivion. An "Americanised" version with twin square headlamps (Lancias were still sold in the US at this time) was shown at the Birmingham Motor Show. However Lancia were already planning the Gamma's replacement with Italdesign (the Thema) and Brovarone's concept failed to develop beyond prototype stage.

In the continued saga of Car Noticing (previously I noticed Kazuki's car is a Renault), this week on Buddy Daddies I noticed the car of the guy Rei went out killin' with.

It's literally a Chrysler 300

There's definitely someone on the show staff who is a Car Knower! But I find this one an odd choice because it's a right hand drive Chrysler 300. Granted, they did sell the 300 in Europe for a while, including rebadging it as a Lancia Thema. But that stopped in 2019.

And anyway, I think a Lexus or Toyota sedan would be a much better choice for the high-class assassins of Japan. More reliable than a Chrysler, anyway.

A MESTRINO (PADOVA) IN UN CONFLITTO A FUOCO CON DEI RAPINATORI BRACCATI DAI CARABINIERI VIENE GRAVEMENTE FERITO IL CAPITANO DEI CARABINIERI PAOLO ROTA GELPI MBVM

Alle dieci e quaranta, mentre PADOVA è percorsa in lungo e in largo dalle Forze dell'Ordine per via dell’uccisione di un Poliziotto da parte di due banditi, a GRUMOLO delle ABBADESSE, un paese appena al di là del confine con la Provincia di VICENZA, tre banditi assaltano la filiale della Banca Cattolica.

Su una Lancia Thema si dirigono verso PADOVA, ma i Carabinieri intercettano i rapinatori in fuga. Nasce un inseguimento che si conclude quando i tre banditi abbandonano l'auto.

I tre fuggono attraverso i campi, cercano di salire sul viadotto dell'Autostrada e poi si rifugiano in una vicina galleria ferroviaria, sempre tallonati dai Carabinieri.

Il Comandante della locale Compagnia Carabinieri, il Capitano Paolo Rota Gelpi, 31 anni ex Allievo dell’Accademia Militare di MODENA, entra per primo nella galleria e uno dei banditi gli spara ferendolo ad una vertebra cervicale.

Lui stesso e i suoi uomini rispondono al fuoco.

Il bandito, sentendosi ormai senza scampo, si suicida con la propria arma.

Gli altri due gangster fuggono, i colleghi del Capitano soccorrono l'Ufficiale che dovrà successivamente subire un delicato intervento chirurgico.

Il rapinatore morto suicida verrà identificato come Battista Tombolato di 35 anni.

Era detenuto a Bologna per rapina e aveva avuto un permesso di 15 giorni “Per buona condotta”.

Per l’eroico comportamento al Capitano Paolo Rota Gelpi, nato a BERGAMO il 20 febbraio 1957, Capitano effettivo alla Legione Carabinieri di PADOVA, verrà concessa la Medaglia di Bronzo al Valor Militare con la seguente motivazione:

“Comandante di Compagnia territoriale, in occasione di rapina a mano armata in danno di un istituto di credito, mettendo in luce spiccate doti di animatore ed alta professionalità, organizzava tempestivamente, capeggiandoli, articolati servizi di ricerca che portavano alla localizzazione in una galleria ferroviaria di uno dei malfattori. Fatto segno proditoriamente a colpi di pistola, reagiva con le armi in dotazione e, benché seriamente ferito, continuava intrepidamente nell'azione con il concorso di tre militari finché il rapinatore, ormai senza scampo, si suicidava per evitare la cattura. L'operazione si concludeva con il recupero dell'intera refurtiva ed il sequestro di una pistola. - MESTRINO (PADOVA), 16 maggio 1988”.
