Figured it was time for more photo posting :]
One thing I like to do for my family every year is make a calendar of some of my favorite photography I've done over the previous year or so, so I figured I would share the pictures I chose here as well! I've posted a few of them before but I think those are worth sharing again ^^
Here's what each of them are:

Homeward Bound
January 6-10
We spent a delightful day with family members in St Pete’s Beach Friday night and Saturday morning. Jeanne enjoyed the flowers which had not frozen the prior week’s cold snap.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was hard to leave, but duty calls and we wanted a leisurely ride home instead of driving until exhaustion every day. Instead we drove the state roads across Florida and spent the night in a campground at Lake Harmony in Georgia.
Tumblr media
They had a field where Dora could run. She had a lot of zoomies saved up after a day in the car. A passing staff member remarked “that pup can RUN!”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We got firewood, made a fire, ate dinner and sat outside until the temperature dropped below 50°. Dora was wrapped in a blanket and had a coat on. She is a warm weather dog.
Tumblr media
On Sunday we had pancakes.
Tumblr media
Then we left I-95 and headed into the Blue Ridge Mountains. Dora made up a new “chase the squeaky toy” game that could be played in the RV. Jeanne obediently threw the toy while Tim drove in the rain through the hills and into the mountains of North Carolina. We camped at Sam’s Gap, an Appalachian Trail trailhead next to and somewhat under I-26. No one passed on the road, and we could only occasionally hear the Jake break of an 18-wheeler decelerating on the steep downhill from the pass.
Tumblr media
Monday we woke to cold rain, 32°, that fortunately did not snow. We rolled up the screens for the windows and stowed the sandals and broke out the winter coats and gloves. We got on the road and the weather cleared and warmed up to 47°. Shortly after we crossed into Virginia, we found a rest area with a field well away from the road where Dora could zoom. And zoom she did. Followed by a nap.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Waiting for Tim to pump gas.
The rest was the usual slog home. We drove I-81 instead of I-95 and spent the night in the Cabellas parking lot in Hamburg , PA.
The next morning we got an early start and avoided most of the traffic. Lunch at Rein’s Deli and home by 2:15.
A short, but very satisfying trip.

Every Record I Own - Day 752: Genghis Tron Dream Weapon
This is an album highlight of 2021.
I saw the early electronic grindcore incarnation of Genghis Tron live once back in 2008. I was at Red 7 in Austin, TX with Russian Circles as part of a tacked-on mini-festival at the end of SXSW. My memory of the night is hazy, though the internet tells me that Maps & Atlases, Lymbyc Systym, Caspian, This Will Destroy You, Circle Takes the Square, Constants, Coliseum, Junius, Portugal the Man, Tera Melos, and The Coma Recovery also played. While I realize that in some circles this is a pretty impressive line-up, back in 2008 most of these bands were just starting out, and rather than feeling like an amazing festival it felt like a disorganized show with way too many artists involved.
I remember getting a little fatigued by all the post-rock stuff on the bill, and by the time Genghis Tron set up I was excited to hear a band that had a bit more energy and aggression behind them. Unfortunately, in lieu of a drummer they had a drum machine, and while the PA in Red 7 should’ve been adequate enough to make those mechanized beats sound absolutely crushing, the band was hobbled by a mix that made the drums sound quiet and completely cut-off from the live instrumentation.
For me, this is the big risk when combining electronic elements in a rock band. With the right sound engineer and the right PA, it can sound amazing. But in a small club with a disinterested sound engineer and no real soundcheck, the electronic components often sound detached and separate instead of fully integrated into the band’s sound. I wanted to believe, but I was not made into a Genghis Tron convert that night.
After a thirteen year hiatus, Genghis Tron returned with Dream Weapon. The metal elements are completely gone. The vocals have switched from grindcore grunts and shrieks to layered harmonies and vocoded treatments. The guitars are minimal while the synths take center stage. And though there are still electronic drum patterns, my SUMAC comrade Nick Yacyshyn hammered out live drums on the album. So really, it feels like a totally different band. And while I’m generally down for the mechanized assault of industrialized metal/hardcore (see: Uniform, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Godflesh, Austerity Program, etc.), I gotta say that this new incarnation of Genghis Tron completely won me over in a way their earlier work did not. Dream Weapon isn’t about brute force. While Nick’s drumming definitely lends an aggressive power to the album, the overall vibe of the record is more exhilarating than antagonistic.
I remember driving on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago one night, past the skyscrapers of downtown, the city lights glowing, Tangerine Dream turned up loud on the car stereo. The music paired with the monoliths of concrete and neon felt like some joyride into the future. Listening to Dream Weapon feels a little like that night if you were to add some element of danger and adrenaline---a pursuit, or perhaps a race to some urgent destination but with the full confidence of succeeding in the mission. It’s the soundtrack of accelerating into the night, of feeling in control of the man-made constructs surrounding us, of retaining the sense of self in an increasingly automated world.
Dream Weapon came out when we were all still in the pre-vaccine COVID lockdown, when the idea of live shows returning was still up in the air. And while that generally felt like a difficult time to release albums since there was no ability to promote them through touring, those restrictions might have actually served as a boon to Genghis Tron. This is music from some future world. Its sense of space feels divorced from reality. While I would absolutely love to see this incarnation of the band perform live, there’s also something really special about the fantasy world it creates. Dream World came out at a time when reality was pretty bleak and we were all relatively cut off from each other, and it offered a beguiling alternate world for us to bask in during our isolation.

San Fermin- Arms (Better Company Records)
San Fermin- Arms (Better Company Records)
Ellis Ludwig-Leone’s band San Fermin is back with their fifth album. Nine songs filled with heartbreak from not one, but two breakups Ellis experienced. The emotions truly rise up on this album through the music and the lyrics sung by alternating vocalists Allen Tate and Claire Wellin. The first track, “Weird Environment,” has a rockin’ guitar melody resembling New Order in parts. Allen sings the most toe-tapping song on the album filled with those heartfelt lyrics I mentioned. “Burned my life down to the ground. Emptied out the Hungry Ghost. Wrote a sad song to get it out. If it helped, I didn’t notice.” The song builds to a punch later with driving instrumentation. Here’s the video:
youtube
Next up, “Didn’t Want You To,” Claire steps in to sing with a subtle twang, “I’ll find my way; Out of this place soon; If you didn’t want me, I didn’t want you to.” A beauty of a song complete with added horns. You can watch the video here:
youtube
Track 3, “Can't Unsee It,” brings Allen back on vocals with a gorgeous song that kind of reminds me of Lord Huron or The National for some reason. Love the horns on this one as well. Next is the title track, “Arms,” a bouncy piano ballad where Allen’s vocals shine here. A beautiful guitar solo adds to its lyrics. “Oh, I’m falling for you so madly; As soon as I leave, I just want to come back; And I know this is going to end badly; Cuz it feels like you are the one thing that I have; And who am I to hold you when you have arms for the whole world?”  Here’s the video:
youtube
Track 5, “Makes Me Want You,” Claire takes over with multiple layers of her vocal tracks. Along with gorgeous piano and trumpet, this “makes me want (the song) more.” Claire is also lead vocals on the next track, “My Love Is A Loneliness.” The third single off of the album is one you’re sure to sing along with in no time. I know I have. More multiple-layered vocals that will move any listener to tears. Powerful imagery also in the lyrics: “If everyone leaves and everyone dies; It’s just a question of when; If everyone cheats and everyone lies; Rather it me than them; If the worst should happen; And it will, and will again; I will still be standing; With loneliness, my friend; To start again.” The video can be seen here:
youtube
Next up, “Useful Lies,” is a beautiful, soft acoustic guitar melody sung by Allen. And then wait for it, here come the strings, the harmonies, and the horns that make this song truly soar! Track 8, “Wasting on Me,” Allen and Claire’s harmonies really blend here on this more upbeat song. The beauty of the boy/girl vocals really makes this one stand out. “Never meant to lead you down a road of sadness. But we’ve arrived where there’s nothing to be done. Could pretend there was a moment when we lost it. But we were running different races from the gun.” The album ends with “You Owe Me.” It’s back to Claire on lead vocals with a soft, sad piano-driven melody. In comes the brass that really helps capture the mood. Emotional heartbreak here with, “And I had to get my stuff out of your parents’ place. Your father wouldn’t even meet me in my eye.” The album was recorded at Better Company Studios in Brooklyn by none other than Allen Tate, the male vocalist. A national tour begins in the middle of March(see below). The last time I saw San Fermin was ten years ago at FRZN FEST in Madison. You don’t want to miss this album performed live; I know I won’t. The Enchanting Harmony of Ballet Piano Music: A Symbiotic Dance of Melody and Movement
Ballet, a timeless and graceful form of dance, is a harmonious marriage of movement and music. One of the key elements that elevates ballet to a sublime art form is the enchanting piano music that accompanies the dancers on stage. Ballet piano music serves as the heartbeat of the performance, seamlessly weaving together emotion, rhythm, and expression. In this article, we explore the significance of ballet piano music, its history, and its role in enhancing the beauty of ballet performances.
The Historical Tapestry of Ballet Piano Music:
The origins of ballet piano music can be traced back to the early 17th century when ballet emerged as a distinct art form in the courts of Renaissance Italy and later gained prominence in France. Initially, ballet was performed to live vocal and instrumental music, but it wasn't until the 19th century that the use of piano music became widespread in ballet productions.
Composers like Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of ballet music with timeless classics such as "Swan Lake," "The Nutcracker," and "Sleeping Beauty." The piano served as a versatile instrument, allowing composers to create intricate and expressive scores that could be adapted for both small-scale rehearsals and grand performances.
The Role of Ballet Piano Music in Choreography:
Ballet piano music is not merely an accompaniment; it is an integral part of the choreographic process. Choreographers collaborate closely with composers to synchronize movements with the ebb and flow of the music, creating a seamless and captivating visual and auditory experience for the audience. The piano's dynamic range and expressive capabilities make it an ideal instrument for conveying the nuances of the dancers' emotions and movements.
The Emotional Resonance of Ballet Piano Music:
Ballet piano music has the power to evoke a myriad of emotions, from the delicate and ethereal to the powerful and dramatic. The gentle melodies of a pas de deux can be accentuated by the soft, melancholic notes of the piano, while a grandiose ensemble piece may be accompanied by thunderous chords that echo through the theater. The emotional resonance of ballet piano music not only enhances the dancers' performances but also immerses the audience in a world of beauty and expression.
Contemporary Ballet and Piano Music:
While classical compositions continue to be an integral part of ballet performances, contemporary ballet has also embraced a diverse range of music, including modern piano compositions and collaborations with living composers. This fusion of tradition and innovation allows ballet to remain a dynamic and evolving art form, appealing to audiences of all generations.
Conclusion:
Ballet piano music is a captivating and essential component of the ballet experience, breathing life into the movements of dancers and providing a rich emotional tapestry for audiences to explore. From the historical roots in Renaissance courts to the modern stages of contemporary ballet, the enchanting harmony of ballet piano music continues to elevate this timeless art form, making each performance a symphony of movement and melody that transcends time and captivates the human spirit.

CVAP Batch 22 Week 4 BLOG
What time is it? It's Vlog time once again for our CVAP Batch 22 Week 4 Training Session!
Great day voicemates!
Wow! Week 4 na, time flies so fast and malapit na ang Invoicetiture namin, keeps getting better, exciting and very worth it talaga.
But before moving forward, I would like to always go back to where it all started. I will always be grateful to the great Voice Master and CEO of Creative Voices, Sir Pocholo Gonzales, to our head trainer and scholarship grantor, Sir Papalem, our trainers Sir Navi Garcia, Bryan Dave Perez and Jeneane Santos.
Every week has been such a wonderful learning experience for me. But for this week, it was a fresh learning addition to my knowledge bank, and enlightening feedback for improvements.
We rolled it off with a sprakenroll vibe by our enthusiastic tandem hosts, JuMo. Then followed by zoomustahan and introduction of our trainer for the day, Ma'am Lyn Gonzalez.
Kung sa first 3 weeks, natutunan namin mga fundamentals of voice artistry and all the technicalities, and all, sa week 4 was kakaiba kasi diniscuss samin ni Ma'am Lyn all about what's next after the training and the legal side of being in the voice acting industry like how to make a demo reel, resume, service agreement, red flags, among others.
Ang pinaka tumatak sakin sa natutunan ko from Ma'am Lyn is yung "your talent will open the door, but character will keep you in the room"….True enough, at kung babalikan ko rin lahat ng mga naituro samin from week 1 to this week, 4th week, yun lage hinuhubog samin na having the right attitude, mindset, heartset, building harmonious relationships from the top to the level below, yun ang pinakamahalaga para manatili sa voice artist industry. My 2 cents, and i always actually quote or state the bible verse: "Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up" at yung kasabihan ba laging lumingon sa pinangalingan. At the end of the day, ang importante ay ivalue natin ang mga tumulong satin, and it will just follow na makakatulong din sayo sa iba.
On the other hand, the live feedback session with our head trainer Sir Papalem, together with trainers, Ma'am Lyn Gonzales, Ma'am Carren, and Sir Ron, was nakakabitin. Bitin in a sense that gusto ko pa sana makarinig ng coaching tips, improvement feedback, and power words of encouragement or mga quotes which maraming naibato samin ni Sir Papalem. Personally, laking pasasalamat ko po kasi napili yunh output ko na radio ad, and lahat ng mga aral and feedback nila, actually yun din ineexpect ko na marinig sa kanila, and thank you so much coaches and trainers for all those po. Sana po mai apply ko lahat yun sa mga susunod na gagawin ko pa, and syempre po alam ko na along the way there will be struggles pero with God's help and from all of you, sana ma achieve ko yung tatak excellence ng CVAP.
Yun nga po I will make baon sa mga advices niyo regarding pronunciation, enunciation, call to action or tagging, avoiding plosives like drinking water in between recordings, giving more energy and leaving a mark on the listeners with a bang. Actually, kaya eto po yung radio ad ang sinubmit ko dahil eto rin po is one I am looking forward to improving and hopefully volunteer or perhaps audition in radio ads. Kaya gusto ko rin talaga matutunan how to enunciate well kahit mabilis yung recording na pagkasyahin in 1 minute na di nabubulol. Yun talaga gusto ko po maimprove.
Ang tumatak naman sakin sa mga quotes ni Sir Papalem ay yung "voice acting is a difficult job but requires an artistic heart"…lage samin nireremind na totoo di lang ito about pera kasi kung yun lang habol natin sa industriya na ito, pwede mag fail mga goals natin kasi parang magiging monotonous or ritual na lang yung pag voice acting and there will come a time na magsasawa ka, pero kung andun talaga yung passion, dedication, and puso sa ginagawa mo, lahat will just eventually follow - dreams fulfilled, goals achieved and joy overflowing. So, i also leave with you guys this verse: "where your treasure is there will your heart be also"
So, once again this is Alvin The PitchMonk, wishing you all a wonderful day and God bless everyone!

Dead & Company at Pavilion at Star Lake, Burgettstown, Pa., July 12, 2022
The track was greased as Dead & Company barreled into a rip-snorting take of “Big Railroad Blues.”
With John Mayer in the conductor’s seat, it seemed the band’s July 12 second set at Burgettstown’s Pavilion at Star Lake would be a full-bore rock & roller.
But then … a low-key, highly psychedelic “Dark Star” emerged. Mayer was lost in the sound - his face serene on the venue’s screens as the impeccable sound & crystal-clear mix enveloped the less-than-sell-out crowd in a tie-dyed hug. Mayer & keyboardist Jeff Chimenti embraced the dissonance, building up musical themes & knocking them down after Bob Weir sung the first verse.
OK. So, this would be a space set.
But while the band explored the aural cosmos under on-screen images of Grateful Dead iconography & related visual aids like phantom ships, Weir strapped on an acoustic guitar & suburban Pittsburgh was transported to “El Paso.”
Mayer scribbled electric leads over Marty Robbins’ cowboy ballad & it was clear there was no theme to the set. It was confirmed when “He’s Gone” tottered along with Weir keeping the acoustic - a nice touch.
With drummer Bill Kreutzmann still sidelined & Jay Lane taking his place behind the kit with Mickey Hart, Weir - the only Grateful Dead man playing in the band in 1974 - nevertheless set the wayback machine to that storied year for a jazzy “Eyes of the World” that featured Chimenti on electric piano & bassist Oteil Burbridge playing a post-vocals solo that led to “Drumz.”
This delightfully schizophrenic sequence unfolded following a 75-minute first set that began with a tepid rendition of “The Music Never Stopped” & wrapped with the segue of “Lost Sailor” -> “Saint of Circumstance,” the most-Grateful sounding friends in the Company’s Dead oeuvre. Earlier, Mayer slayed a sprightly & spry “Dire Wolf” & Weir played a charming, if clunky, acoustic-guitar solo on a fast “Friend of the Devil,” complete with the unrecorded verse:
You can borrow from the devil, you can borrow from a friend/but the devil will give you 20, when your friend got only 10
Burbridge played another bass solo - this time employing slide - to begin the second hour of set No. 2 as “Space” gave way to the second half of “Dark Star,” more song-like and aggressive than its predecessor. What followed was the most-intense “Hell in a Bucket” this side of 1995, with Mayer playing searing leads & Weir screaming like a falsetto banshie.
Grate(ful) stuff, followed by an equally powerful - for different reasons - “Dear Prudence.” Weir tried really hard on this one & his vocals, coupled with uncharacteristically smooth harmonies, made for a winner.
Then, Dead & Company did something really inventive. They mixed the melody of “Green Onions” into a gloriously banging rendition of “U.S. Blues” to give the old warhorse a new saddle & the ride to the “Ripple” encore was thus intense.
Something has gotten into this band in 2022. It’s unnameable & remarkably special.
