By ConfidentialUn: Few buildings in Ireland can boast a longer history of continuous occupation than Kilkenny Castle. Founded soon after the Norman conquest of Ireland, the Castle has been rebuilt, extended and adapted to suit changing circumstances and uses over a period of 800 years.

#OTD in Irish History | 14 February:
St Valentine’s Day, commonly shortened to Valentine’s Day, is a holiday observed on 14 February. Many churches claim to be Valentine’s final resting place, including the Carmelite Church on Whitefriar Street in Dublin. An excerpt I recorded from a baroque recital last evening (Culture Night here in Ireland) at Kilkenny Castle - in the 'Long Gallery' also known as the Portrait Gallery....
This was their final piece a dance from the early 1700s with an introduction. The story of a man who bought himself a 'trendy' (fancy) hat and proud as punch - was showing it off to his friends and associates at his 'local' tavern.......Enjoy!

Early in December 1649, the…
