Wtf, I can't believe Katarina will end up with Geordo of all people. Tbh I don't see chemistry between them. Ngl I thought she will end up with either Maria or Mary but it seems the author was just queer baiting. The author should be prepared for some hate because most of the people in the Fandom ship her with the girls.

I... I don't know what to tell you, man qwq I mean I strongly believe that Katarina will end up with Geordo, but I'm not the author so take what I say with a grain of salt??

If you don't see the chemistry between Katarina and Geordo, that's okay since the manga and anime hasn't dwelled into that territory yet. The manga has only covered 4/10 novels and the anime would cover 3-4/10 novels, and most of the stuff with Geordo is on 6 and beyond.

I'm not really sure if anything that the EN Fandom does will affect the author, we aren't the target demographic of the series and I'm not sure how much western fans affect the bluray and merch sales of the anime. From what I can tell, the JP Fandom are huge fans of Keith and Geordo anyways so for them they are being fed good by the contents of the anime and manga right now. I mean I do remember there was a few negative reactions from japanese fans when it was revealed that the girls are not capture targets in the hamefura nintendo switch game, but I don't know if it was violent enough for them to overturn that decision. We can only really tell through the contents of the next Light Novel Volume (LN11) in November if the reactions and receptions to hamefura have changed the direction of the story.

Like I keep saying, the light novels is nowhere near done so take whatever I say with a grain of salt. I like Geordo and he's clearly the ML of the series so that's why I firmly believe Katarina will end up with him, but who really knows?

I could make an post comparing Geordo vs. Maria's chances of winning the harem olympics based on the contents of the novels and all the promotional material but I won't do it here. Plus would I really need to do that? I don't want to ruin the show for other people by rubbing it in their faces who I think everyone is gonna end up with through spoilers and speculation. Hamefura is great because you can ship everyone with everyone, and in this day and age no even cares for canonicity anyways.

Also, I really hope I don't sound rude when I say this anon, but I don't know how you got the idea that Katarina could end up with Mary hdsgfjsd if you ship Katarina with Mary then that's great, beautiful and valid, but if you genuinely believed that the series is gonna end with a MaryKata endgame then I don't know what to tell you qwq. If people think that Katarina would end up with Maria as endgame then I won't blame them, I originally came into the series assuming the same.

I'm not the right person to discuss whether or not hamefura is queer baiting. To some extent I think it is, but like I said in a previous ask, it's not like the story isn't taking the girls' feelings towards Katarina seriously. Geordo sees the girls as a legit threat as a romantic rival (Keith has some doubts though lmao). The girls are still madly in love with Katarina, and we haven't gotten to a point where those feelings are budging, if it will at all. Sure, we have the power of foresight that we can use to guess how things would turn out but that's another thing. Is it queer bait because Katarina doesn't end up with a girl specifically? Even if Katarina ended up with a man, she is still a great bisexual rep in media and her endgame wouldn't invalidate that. I don't know, this is the kind of topic that I don't want to completely talk about because I know I'm gonna say something wrong kdshsjdf

The idea that she may one day find someone who would be more convenient to date scares him, but deep down he knows that it’s unlikely to happen. If she wasn’t serious about him, she wouldn’t risk everything to be with him.

Im confused, by reading the interview it would seem the writers and creators were going to make Liz feel sympathetic, at least that is the vibe i got. But the episode did not achieve that at all, like at all! There must be some sort of memory mind manipulation stuff going on because if not wtf did i just watch? what do you think...

It’s taken me two days to even be able to face answering asks on that disaster episode, but I’m calmer now, so I’ll give it a go.

She’s definitely suffered some sort of psychotic break. The exact trigger for that, the root cause, remains to be seen. The second memory manipulation may certainly be the reason. Or the first. Or whatever events preceded the first that required Red to have her memories of the night of the fire wiped in the first place. Red seemed to recognize that in the final scene at Anne’s place. The way he looked at Liz after she asked if he too saw Kaplan had a gentle understanding to it which suggests he knows exactly what is causing this.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Liz first hallucinated Mr. Kaplan when she did. Perhaps Katarina triggered something by telling Liz about N-13 or through something else she said in her voicemail or simply by telling Liz to find Mr. French (if he ever existed). She is Liz’s only connection to him and his contact number was conveniently available in Katarina’s personal effects. Mrs. French seems a little too good to be true, parroting Liz’s own “love wins” philosophy back to her and seeming unusually calm for a woman who allegedly knew nothing about her husband’s secret life and whose alleged murder is unexplained. Add in the creepy Russian lullaby (”Tili Tili Bom”) that also played during the fire recall scenes in Luther Braxton (thank you to all those who identified that song) and something is definitely off.

I agree that cramming all of this into one episode didn’t really work. It felt rushed and smacked of gimmickry. Of course they had little choice about that if Megan was unavailable for so long, but as someone on Reddit pointed out, this all probably would have worked much better if we had seen Liz all along talking to someone as she tried to justify her actions but we didn’t know who. We could have been invested in the mystery of that.

It does seem like some of effort to excuse Liz’s behavior, to give them an out where everyone will forgive what she’s done, to make her seem sympathetic. But for me, who was sympathetic to Liz all along (and part of a definite minority in the fandom on that, I know) it stings to realize that as much as Liz has always wanted nothing more than to be in control of her own life, she’s still really not. Her past is still controlling her, just now in a different form. Once again, Liz feels like someone who needs to be saved and it leaves a really bad taste in my mouth that they have gone there yet again.

I still think Liz’s “redemption” will come in the form of revealing some larger truth that leads everyone to forgive what she’s done because what she’s uncovered proves to be more important. But it’s clear we have a very damaged Liz right now and how she moves past that into some semblance of the normal life she’s always wanted, I don’t know.

Red asked the broker guy “Where’s Rostova?” and they mentioned a “she”.

So my question is, do you think it was Katarina/Tetiana (I don’t remember how to write her name) who sent it? I mean, Elizabeth’s search about her mother wasn’t really intense, then, if I remember correctly. And why would she send it to him?

Day 4: Keith Claes

My boy Keith is the best boy out of the cast according to anitrendz, congrats!

I don't really have a lot to say about Keith. I don't ship him with Katarina, that's his sister. NOPE

He has strong af magic BUT he is physically meh. Noodle boy.

Thanks to Katarina he is more comfortable using his earth magic.

When he helps Katarina with her field, he usually uses his earth magic.

I like to imagine that as Katarina's little bro she taught him how to climb.

Looking at the flashbacks from this weeks episode(7) Katarina doesn't take care of her hair that much, so Keith likes to brush her hair.

He started to take care of his hair because he once read that girls like guys with good hair.

He spends more time with Luigi (Papa Claes) because he needs to prepare to be the future duke.

He would say "SHAMELESS" whenever anyone tried to get close to Katarina, he doesn't want any of the other suitors getting close to his sis, SPECIALLY Gerald (I really miss muse from love live ok). Nobody is aloud to lewd his sister.

He develops his own version of the Katarina-glare®, but it's based on the original (and way superior) Diana aka mama Claes glare. His version is way less intimidating but it works

He probably plays the trumpet or some other wind instrument (it would be way funnier if it was the tuba) maracas

He learns a lot of pop culture references through Katarina’s weird rants

He wonders wtf Katarina is talking about sometimes

"What do you mean that we are not those type of cousins, you are my nee san?" - Keith

She is referring to this type of cousins

He really appreciates that Katarina is a social butterfly because now he has friends (he is not lonely).

He doesn't know why Katarina tries to keep him away from Nicol, they are just friends (right?)

Being oblivious runs in the family, he doesn't notice when someone subtly flirts with him.

He might is kind of shy, but once he can legally drink OH BOY, he turns into an unstoppable flirt.

As the president of Katarina mustn't end with Gerald club he holds a meeting once each month asking everyone else in the harem how's their romantic progress with Katarina. He wants the harem to play

He praises Katarina when she does something good, but if she asks him to be honest he can be savage af.

I honestly would prefer if they actually acted like real siblings(shitty AF but still willing to die for each other).

Katarina makes a lot of bro jokes with him, and he is moved by all of them, example:

Katarina: bro, close your eyes

Keith: Okay onee san

Katarina: what do you see?

Keith: Nothing nee san

Katarina: that's my life without you

Keith, in tears: ONEE SAN!

Also this when Katarina is trying to write her Fortune Lover Manual:

I have seen a lot of people ship him with Sophia, just because they want Sophia to be related to Katarina(at least let her fight for her love), but it makes a lot of sense if they don't end up with her. They would be a chill couple, they are not dramatic. They would visit Katarina a lot (she would kill someone with her butt)

On a side note:

The anime is making me ship Keith and Gerald, I'm not going to go further than that cause that's a whole can of worms that I don't want to open anytime soon.

OHH, I’ve read most of them actually!!! Y’all underestimate how much me and the guys in my server just INHALE these things.

We go at them carefully, cuz some of them tend to be a bit...YEAH.

There’s one where our MC ended up with black hair and dark skin (which isn’t really dark, she’s got a light olive tone at best in the cover art) because she can control darkness that made a LOT of people wary of her, when really, she’s just a nice kid... BUT UHHH, the implications about THAT.

And not helping, is that in the comments, there were some spoilers from the novel, that later on, she loses her dark skin, like...wtf?????? EVEN WORSE, THE WAY SHE’S TREATED IS CHANGED IMMEDIATELY BECAUSE OF IT (they treat her BETTER).

I just dropped it after that, I’m not even gonna bother with stuff like that. Idk what’s going on there, but I literally cannot deal with that shit cuz of the implications. (it’s called I'm Not a Villainess!! Just Because I Can Control Darkness Doesn't Mean I'm a Bad Person!)

(literally the premise is so damaging, and like, I’m nowhere near pale, but I’m still on the lighter end of brown, so seeing that is just...it’s gross)

ANYWAYS, the Old man reincarnated as the villainess is AMAZING. Literally all started when the Zoids Mangaka was posting stuff on twitter about what HE wanted to see from an isekai like that.

I followed it pre serialization, and am currently following it now that it’s been serialized. Literally, old man KEEPS FUCKING RAISING FLAGS. BECAUSE HE’S BAD AT BEING MEAN. He’s just...A DAD. But also, really nice.

The Fiance’s Observation Log is also good!! Was following it when the LN was getting translated, and then immediately jumped to the manga adaptation when I saw it existed.

Same goes with our girl, Katarina in Destruction Flag Otome. And a lot of these, really. Eheheh, when I came across Destruction Flag Otome, I went on a BINGE on novel updates under the villainess tag.

Read the Yandere one, and I have another one to suggest, It Seems Like I Got Reincarnated Into the World of a Yandere Otome Game. Lycoris is our girl, and she’s doing her best to avoid getting killed, but like...ehehhee, the yanderes are still THERE, despite her meddling. It’s just that it turned into a softer yan, where everyone is just protective of her. It has some elements of horror and psychological stuff here, which is what makes it so interesting.

There’s May I Please Ask You Just One Last Thing? if you want some catharsis since our MC will beat the shit out of those who piss her off. The downside is that the guy interested in her is...really pissing me off, since he only likes her because everyone else bores him like. No. Just no. That’s not romantic.

If you want to use a premise like that, Fiance’s Observation Log does it better because it started off with him being a CHILD, and doing things cuz it was interesting...AND THEN HE GOT ATTACHED because of it.

The Daughter of the Albert House Wishes for Ruin is AMAZING, our MC wants to be a villainess because she has REASONS, but the problem is THAT SHE KEEPS COMING OFF AS A TSUNDERE. And the Heroine just accepts that, like “WOW!!!!”

Milady Just Wants To Relax is a good one if you want fluffy beast-kin getting treated nicely by our MC, who opens up a cafe after reaching her destruction flag. She’s having a nice time and the beast-kin have taken to protecting her. They try to stay in their human form, to keep her from feeling intimidated, when in reality, she likes their beast form. It’s just fluffy times here.

I have so many others to recommend, but I just suggest looking up the Villainess tag on mangadex.

THAT SAID, do keep an eye out for any red flags that pop up. Because you never know when you’ll come across another Abandoned Empress. Anyways, thanks for the recs!! Gonna read Tearmoon Empire Story!!

just for “fun”, which blacklist ending do you think is most likely: a) lizzington happens but bc it’s written by the same dudebros who gave us k2 it’s completely toxic b) lizzington happens and it’s great for two seconds but then red dies c) red and liz both die d) liz gets with ressler and red either dies or gets dad-zoned again, or e) ryan comes back for the final episode so tim can get the happily ever after he never deserved

Hey anon,

god I wish I knew. By now I have literally zero expectations for anything and I just want it to be over. Please let season 8 be the last so we can all. move. the fuck. on. However, I want to comment on some possibilities and topics you touched on.

Lizzington: First of all I don’t like defending Lizzington by claiming it’s a “non-toxic” ship (in general or even in comparison to others). Frankly, I hate that kind of language that’s been used for shipping lately where there’s this moral component added and a ship is only allowed to exist/happen if it’s 100% soft uwu healthy. We’re talking about the mastermind of the criminal underworld and a woman who burns people alive and dissolved someone’s corpse in acid. Like??? These two fictional characters are both completely fucked up and in my fantasy world where they are a romantic couple it is clear that they are both psychological trainwrecks. But trainwrecks that are good for each other, you know? That’s what I had hoped for when the show started and they baited the shit out of us with Lizzington - a dark romance where Liz was eventually giving in to her “dark impulses” and actually sides with Red (and not with Katarina “mother of the year” Rostova wtf???) and together they’d repair some of each others’ damaged selves while still being, you know... partners in crime. So basically what happened after Liz shot Tom Connolly and they went on the run together. THAT’S what I had expected from the show and what I wanted from this ship! But I have very little hope they will be able to turn the show around to give us that in the end. They’d have to rebuild Liz’s character from the ground first and there just ain’t no time (or competence) left for that.

K2: The problem I had with K2 wasn’t the fact that Tom was a bad guy - I actually enjoyed the role he played in season 1 - but rather how the writers decided over night that he shall be redeemed now and we should all move on and collectively forget that he’s a wife beater and a murderer. See, there are a SHIT TON of parallels between Red and Tom and that could actually be really interesting to analyse through Lizzington goggles. So yeah... I don’t really know how to express this better other than saying: I don’t consider K2 a “toxic” ship because that’s anti rhetoric and I hate it and try not to think in that way. I don’t give a fuck about “toxic” ships. But I give a fuck when they are badly written. And K2 and Tim Koon’s character were terribly written after season 1 and his presence ultimately ruined the entire show in my opinion.

Red dying: I am dead certain that Red will die. I have suspected this to be his destiny in the end for a loooong time, even way before he got that illness. I was more on the line of “he’ll get tragically gunned down in the street and die in Lizzy’s arms” but mystery illness seems to be the route tptb are going with now. (Also if they want to ~suBvErT eXPecTAtioNs~ by not making Raymond Reddington the no.1 on the blacklist then they are idiots who should never be allowed a job in television ever again!)

Liz dying: nah, I don’t think that’s a likely outcome at all. it just doesn’t make sense for her character arc (if you can even call it that) and I think tptb know that.

Keenler: *sigh* Lord give me strength! You know... if they had spent any reasonable amount of time during the past seven years to give Donald “proud member of the NRA” Ressler an ounce of character development and actually built that ship up in a meaningful way then I might be able to be cool with that potential outcome even if I don’t ship them. But I simply cannot ignore that for two and a half years Lizzington ticked off every romantic trope in the book; that both Red and Liz canonically love each other (one way or another). And Keenler had.... what? One chinese take out dinner on Liz’s birthday? I don’t care if people ship it, don’t get me wrong. To each their own. But if that’s what tptb decide to go with in season 8 then it will have no foundation whatsoever in the seven seasons prior, especially not compared to how big they made Lizzington out to be in the beginning. However, as already established: tptb are idiots so I wouldn’t be surprised if they actually go with Keenler.

Dad-zone: Yeah, probably. The writers and media outlets just cannot stop referring to Red as a “parental figure” and it is so boring and annoying and stupid. But I fear tptb made up their mind on that in season 4 when they realised that Spader really isn’t getting younger. Unless they go FULL daddy kink (which they won’t) then Red will end up being stuck with the “father figure” label whether he wants it or not and it’ll make zero sense for his character and his relationship to Lizzy but they will paint it like it was always meant to be that way [fast cut to Lizzy’s sex dream and Red’s sex voice vibrating in our collective lap “What do you really want, Agent Keen?”].

Tim Tim the Koon coming back from the dead: No fucking way. Honestly. No. That bitch is dead and done with and even a show as ridiculously inconsistend as TBL couldn’t find a way to bring that fucker back to life. NO!

So.... I don’t know how much “fun” that was to read, anon lol but there you go. Those are my nightmares thoughts and it actually felt good to get that rant out of my system.

3. Any familiar?

Alessa: A baby dragon named Bernie! He’s small and blue but struggled to breathe fire since being abandoned by his thunder.

Tabitha: An old sea turtle yet to be named! (Maybe you guys can offer suggestions?)

Freya: A seal named Ingrid. It’s hard for Ingrid to live in a warmer climate like Vesuvia, since in her climate she’s used to a very cold climate.

Winona: A snake named Dante, looks similar to Faust but with a thinner head and green and yellow pattern.

Zira: A little octopus-like creature native to her home dimension. Her name is Vivian.

Katarina: An Eagle named Pietro. You would be surprised, as heavy as he can be she can still lift him no problem.

5. Best strength in magic? (My favorite!)

Alessa: Anything having to do with heat and light, but mostly fire.

Tabitha: Plant magic! She loves to make plants grow, and can communicate with them. Though, it does earn her some strange stares.

Freya: Anything to do with air and transformation. Think, sort of air bender, but also able to transform not only herself, but other things as well. She also has a semi-magical ability to know if someone is lying/being sincere or not.

Winona: Lights! Anything to do with light and color; its their favorite thing ever! When they get really excited, splotches of color appear on their skin, or bursts of color just appear around them, similar to a picture I posted once.

Zira: Ice magic; she’s a regular old Elsa over here! Though, Masha likes to learn shadow magic if only because it sounds creepy.

Katarina: Telekinesis, communicating with ghosts, and recently learned to put people in a suggestive state and sort of “mind control” them. Though, she only did that once and doesn’t like to do it unless necessary.

16. What are their fears? (For most of these, its answered in their character bio, but not all of them have it yet so I’ll repeat it!)

Alessa: The ocean, whales, having people destroy something she worked hard on, financial dependence, losing control of her life, being alone.

Tabitha: Being in a storm on a boat, big cats like tigers, complete darkness.

Freya: Being completely alone, being taken advantage of, walking on ice, having no control of her life.

Winona: Dogs, fire, complete darkness.

Zira: Losing Masha. She really doesn’t fear much else.

Katarina: Being unfulfilled in life, spiders, needles, doctors, pure darkness, being alone at night.

(I just realized a lot of my apprentices are afraid of the dark and I feel like that should say something about me, but I’m not?)

33. Favorite time of the day?

Alessa: Afternoon. Something about the afternoon time, where its been enough time for her to fully wake up, but not yet night time where she feels like she’s running out of time. It’s nice.

Tabitha: Night time. She loves to watch the sunset then lays down and stares up at the stars.

Freya: Evening once she shop closes. She likes having the time to herself to do things.

Winona: Any time of day honestly, but they really are a morning person! They’re just so excited to start another day, since its a blessing they made it through the night!

Zira: They don’t favor any time of day really. Her circadian rhythm is different from a humans, so all the times of the day blur together. She takes frequent naps to try and be on the same schedule as humans.

Katarina: Late morning, probably. Its quiet enough at the shop to day dream, and on days off it gives her time to get breakfast before getting to work in her studio.

51. What is their worst negative quality? (Ooh, deep.)

Alessa: She can be very stubborn and short tempered. She doesn’t WANT to forgive people because she’s too busy being upset.

Tabitha: She can be a too cocky at times. She often thinks she knows best, or is better at something than the other person, when thats not really the case.

Freya: She often can assume she has more knowledge of things than other people, and often assumes people don’t have good intentions rather than giving them the benefit of the doubt. This is where her power of telling sincerity comes in handy.

Winona: They can be too trusting, and too excitable to the point they’re not self aware. They could cause a big scene and not even know it.

Zira: She is very protective over Masha and can flip on a dime from polite to wanting to kill you. She attacks first and asks questions later.

Katarina: While she has been working on this, she often finds herself being too hard on herself, and sometimes stuck in a “woe as me” rut. Lately, though, she’s trying to see things from other peoples perspectives. Especially since she doesn’t like when Asra leaves her alone. She used to get really upset until she started thinking about it from Asra’s perspective.

53. What is their position to fall asleep? (I should try to draw these!)

Alessa: Oh, she is so restless and constantly changes positions. She can take up the whole bed if given the chance!

Tabitha: If with Volta, she will hold onto her, but if alone she’s a stomach sleeper.

Freya: A side sleeper, like the “yearner” position.

Winona: Always hugging something. Whether its Asra, a pillow, or stuffed animal, they must be hugging something to be comfortable.

Zira: On her back, but with her legs facing sideways, if that makes sense? Like I said, I will try to draw these lol.

Katarina: Corpse position with her hands under her legs.

Edit: I literally just realized I wrote “Celtica” instead of “Alessa”. Oof, I fixed it but wtf lol.

Red... lies?

Im OBSSESED with the blacklist, and the heart of it aka Red & Elizabeth´s relationship. I love them. I love how much he loves her, how she means the world to him and how he will trade his life for hers any second without thinking twice... Yeah, I have daddy issues. Saying that, Im rewatching some episodes and their scenes, and to ALL THOSE who think that Lizzy is ungraceful or not nice to him, or keep THINKING that Red has NEVER lied to her.... thats not truth. First of all, yes he did not diretly lie but manipulating, short-answering, not denying can be EVEN MORE Hurtful ... and he has done that, pleny of times! So even Ive have ALWAYS disliked Tom, he is right about that... Red is so worried about people hurting Liz, and he kills anyone who dares to threat her, less alone touch her but his hiding secrets, mind games and some of the things he does whether is to protect her life, her or his secrets, HE DOES HURT HER alot. I think some of the things that actually hurt her so much and I THINK it was wrong from him were

1- 3X14 ... He tells her how her mom “loved” her father (Katarina said she only loved Masha), how the “COLD WAR” was too much for her father and he took her as a child and Katarina ran after him to get her child back, then Masha shots her dad and Katarina was never the same, 2 months later she walks into the ocean... “THE MAN SHE LOVED, KILLED BY THE CHILD SHE ADORED” “SO THAT NIGHT I KILLED BOTH MY PARENTS” He was FCKING lying! - We all know that now! but HOW COULD HE LET ELIZABETH believe that not only she killed her dad at 4 years old (If he is the real Reddington this is even worse) but to make her believe her mom suicide was because of WHAT SHE HAS DONE!!! ----- WTF REDDINGTON! Katarina faked her death to protect her child, like Elizabeth did, and I think thats what even Reddington did too. WTF DAD! ---- #BadParenting there.

2- 7x02 Elizabeth was worried about him being gone, she cares about him, she loves him, she was fighting to search for him with the team, she doesnt even care who he was , she is fine with him using her father´s identity and face... when they find him, Dom is hurt... she is worried and in pain AND HE BLAMES HER! - He blames her for WANTING TO KNOW ABOUT HER PAST, HER FAMILY, HER PARENTS! The one to blame is HIM ... Dom told her a story,even if it wasnt the whole truth. You can not come into someone´s life, bring up all this questions about HER STORY and pretend for her to be ok with a mere “Its better not know. I wont tell you. Im trying to protect you” NO ONE. NO O-NE would stay cool with that. Dont play yourself. #BadParenting again.

3- Well, pretty much he wipped he memory, then she remembers she shot and killed her that and believed that for 3 years or so, then she finds out that Reddington (he ) was her dad AND HE LET HER BELIEVE THAT, not only let her go on with it for MONTHS but he actually acts like he is!, yes, because he loves her (I think he might be the real reddington) , and he sees her as his child but still, DOESNT SHE HAVE A GOOD DAMN REASON FOR FEEL MANIPULATED AND BETRAYED??? FCK YES, SHE DOES

4- The whole “finding out who killed Tom thing” . I never liked Tom, he was reckless, stupid and he always treated Elizabeth as she was stupid, instead of going BEHIND HER BACK he should have told her what he found out about HER PAST, he got himself killed, Im sorry for Lizzy but he is better gone. Saying that, Red KNOWS how much she loved Tom, he was Agnes´dad, he can see how seeing him die took her into a dark place, WE ALL KNOW this on season 5, YET instead of trying to ease her pain, or something... he openly tells her that he got himself killed because he was looking for his secret and that he will not let her get to it first, I think he didnt want for her to find out and stuff, but the way he was not the best way possible. Imagine your father knowing what got yout husband killed and instead of helping you to find who did it, he keeps getting in your way! #BadParenting there again

Dont get me wrong, I know

HE LOVES HER... he said himself “she is my life, my heart”

. despite all the secrets, darkness and unanswered questions she has come to love him too.

All Im saying, she has right and damn good reasons to not be able to fully trust him because EVERYTIME that she does, he does something, or she finds out something he has done, whether is to wipped her memory, kill her adoptive father, hire her spy ex husband to introduce into her life, or that he is not who he said he was, and even worse, he has be passing as her biological father for almost 30 years...

so ANYONE who says they dislike her, its because yall lack of EMPATHY, but if it was YOU in her shoes, you would probably not even talk to Reddington. and thats the tea!

"Rassvet” delves into the time period between Katarina’s first suicide attempt in February, 1991 (following her run-in w/ the Osterman death squad) & the strategic “resurrection of Raymond Reddington”. Timeline-wise we are good here, imo, otherwise things get... interesting. More behind the cut:

Red told Liz that her mother walked into the ocean 2 months after the Christmas fire (1990). This date checks out. At the shelter, we can hear the news announcing the results of the Lithuanian Independence Referendum. This happened (for real) on February 10, 1991. We also know that Ilya/Red had his first surgical procedure on October 3, 1991. So it’s an 8-month period and not 6 as Liz says, but it’s not that big of a difference (you’re bad at simple math, Liz, and I can relate). Dom says that the various reconstructive surgeries took place over a one-year period, so Ilya/Red likely walked into the first bank towards the end of 1992. Katarina was still alive here and that matches Dom’s claims that 1) he came to the US after the collapse of the Soviet Union (so anytime after December 31, 1991) and 2) that he met Katarina a few months after he arrived, then he never saw or heard from her again. And this is where Dom’s story ends.

Katarina’s “death”, however, is trickier. The show’s been playing fast and loose w/ Red’s “I’ve never lied to you” for a while now, and what he’s told Liz about her mother’s death is def on the very loose end here. Ilya/Red claimed Katarina committed suicide. Well, she did (“I went into the ocean to end my life.”), it was just an unsuccessful one and Ilya/Red did believe her to be dead for a while. He also claimed she was never the same after the fire, and her death is treated as a symbolic one throughout this episode, too (“The woman who walked into the ocean is dead.”). But I still think she is likely dead for real now, she just died later as a consequence of their Reddington Charade, likely as a result of a betrayal that contributed to why Red is the way he is today, why he accepts nothing less than utmost/undivided loyalty, and why he feels so much guilt around Liz, believing that he can never give back what he took from her.

So the dates are fine and, at the end of the day, “Lizzie, your mother is dead” is a statement that holds true, imo (at the very least as a “clever turn of phrase” if Kat is “gone” like Samar is, i.e. never coming back, never able to reach out). For now, I am at peace w/ this.

We also have confirmation that Ilya/Red was indeed there when Liz shot her father. They pulled the dying Reddington from the flames before the firefighters arrived, but he soon died in Katarina’s arms. Then -- after burying him -- Ilya/Red and Kat probably went their separate ways bc he only read about her suicide and had no idea that she survived. In fact, we find him back at work at the Embassy all perky and business as usual, which feels emotionally disjointed from the importance Katarina seems to suddenly take on in his life when he decides to sacrifice everything to protect her. Interestingly, he makes no mention of Liz in this initial vow of protection. In fact, he seems to have no particular investment/interest in Liz whatsoever, and, as we know, his promise of taking care of her “as his own” is never followed through, either.

So if Katarina is as important to him as that monumental sacrifice implies, how come he wasn’t out of his mind with grief before when he thought she’d drowned? With Liz, he is emotionally consistent: his devotion is 100% and so is his devastation when he believes her to be dead. I don’t see this w/ Katarina. There is an inconsistency here that makes me think that there was more behind his willingness to take over Reddington’s identity than a childhood pledge but the answer to this is in the missing parts of the story.

I am def not disputing that Katarina was important to him. They clearly had a bond. I think that childhood pledge was real, too, bc it’s something Dom would know about and it got repeated. I also buy the unrequited & unconditional love scenario bc it fits Red’s personality and he already dropped a comment about this to Liz. But I don’t see them as lovers.

Katarina was decidedly not interested, she was devastated by Reddington’s death, even had a second suicide attempt. She was in love w/ Reddington and also married to/lived with Kirk in Soviet Russia at the time Ilya/Red was stationed in Washington, so I really don’t see how tacking on a 3rd (long-distance) relationship would have fit her life or why. In this ep, they also stayed in separate hotel rooms, Ilya/Red knocked before trying to enter hers -- this behavior doesn’t match two people being in an established intimate relationship (even if it’s on-again, off-again) and I got the same vibe from Red’s POV in “Cape May”, too. Liz is his life and heart, the woman he loves, and after this latest episode, the parallel btw how Katarina and Red react to the death of the person they were in love with is clearer and stronger than ever. For Katarina it was real Reddington. For Red, it is Liz. And I am not even gonna get into the “my child is being raised by someone else” angle but it parallels, too: Katarina put a pin in her original “plan” and came back to make sure Liz was safe. Red did the same for Agnes.

Anyway, what we have in “Rassvet” is, imo, a blend of standard limited 3rd person narration + a curious (infuriating? depends on your perspective) case of an unreliable narrator, which resulted in 2/3 of the messages I got that range from “WTF did I just watch?” to “it doesn’t really add up” and “what about his family??” I don’t believe it’s supposed to add up (yet) and stuff is missing (for now) for a reason.

This ep taps into the signature style of previous flashbacks:

“Cape May” is Red’s distorted recollection filtered through a cocktail of opium, guilt, grief, and suicidal ideation

“Requiem” is Mr. Kaplan’s trip down memory lane that’s skewed by her severe physical/mental/emotional traumas

“Rassvet” is a classic story-inspired-by-true-events Dom tells his granddaughter

There is no objective record of past events presented to us in TBL. We never had that and we might never will. We have memories from sources that are compromised -- biased, altered, censored, redacted -- in various ways, and “narrators” who are unreliable for various reasons. In other words, we have stories and storytellers with agendas.

The lack of reliable omniscient narration becomes evident in “Rassvet” that fittingly revolves around the creation of an identity from a mix of hard facts and anecdotes -- “some true, grounded in reality, some invented” -- for a purpose that (imo) remains partially obscured. It is perfectly captured in both Red’s scene w/ Liz and his subsequent confrontation with our most recent storyteller, Dom: “I know the broad strokes, I know who I am. I need to know the details of exactly what you’ve thrown out there into the ether.”

Red used to be Ilya but the Ilya we see in this episode is Dom’s version -- idealized and incomplete, mostly to fit the story and Dom’s reasons for telling it. This is why Red needs to know what exactly has been said, imo. Liz has already told him the broad strokes and he is Ilya, but the details Dom used to color over things ended up painting a distorted picture that made Red twitch as he listened to Liz in that restaurant. “I know who I am”, he tells Dom but it sure seemed that he only recognized parts of himself in what Liz repeated back to him. The technicalities of him becoming Reddington were told. The whys and hows of his mental/emotional de-evolution are still unclear, imo. This is what Liz touches upon, as well, when she asks him why he stayed Reddington after his alleged original motivation (accessing the $40-million “frame fund” to use it to stay ahead of those hunting Katarina and him) was satisfied. And he naturally dodges her question.

Red detests monsters who masquerade as saviors. This was established at the very beginning when he demolished one of Liz’s idols, as was his view of himself as a violent, ruthless man and self-proclaimed monster who’s sick with guilt and grief and can only atone by protecting Liz. But now, thanks to Dom’s story, she has a skewed view of him as some selfless hero with the purest of original motivations. He was visibly uncomfortable when she believed him to be her father bc he is not that. He is uncomfortable to be perceived as her hero, too, bc he is not that, either, and he def does not see himself that way, either.

Red knows what we know and is angry about it: Dom omitted parts from his narrative and embellished or maybe even invented others. Dom blamed Red for Katarina’s death. He forgave her betrayal but not Red’s (which reminded me of Aram’s situation w/ Levi and Red’s reaction to it), and we have seen Red blaming himself, too, but that tragedy, the event necessitating a “Hobson’s choice” (either letting both Liz and Katarina die or saving one) is missing from the story. Dembe once told Red that Liz may never be ready to hear what he did to Katarina, but there is no trace of that in Dom’s story; it is all unconditional love and pure sacrifice. There is no trace of Red’s own family tragedy, either, but I still don’t believe any of this is forgotten or rewritten.

The former is likely omitted bc Dom’s “storytelling agenda” was to reconnect with Liz, smooth things over, and help everyone move forward. This motivation was floated in the previous episode via his carside chat w/ Red that’s all about the topic of forgiveness: “Why did she turn you in? What did you do that made her want to do that?” | “I haven't ever been totally forthright about myself. She thought she'd have a better chance of finding out more if I was in prison and couldn't interfere.” And it is brought to a conclusion -- on Dom’s part -- at the end of “Rassvet” when he tells Red: “What you need to do is to thank me for putting all of this behind you.” I think the story was Dom’s way of offering forgiveness to Red (a response to his “You forgave Katarina but not me” in the previous ep) and helping him move on. He believes he told Liz enough to give her closure, too. Red seems to disagree, claiming that this likely made things worse. He’s probably right and I cannot wait to see how it unfolds.

I think the other major omission -- that of Red’s family tragedy that’s been alluded to in earlier seasons -- is not in Dom’s story bc he doesn’t know about it. At least I had this feeling when Red showed up on Dom’s doorstep after Liz’s “death”. Dom acted like Red had never experienced the devastating loss of a family, saying sth along the lines of “You think now you know how I feel?!” If he knew about Red’s/Ilya’s wife and daughter, he never would have said that, imo. Also, Red was an operative and worked in the Ambassador’s Residence in D.C. that still housed the Soviet embassy in 1991. When he met younger Dom in Moscow, he greeted him by saying “Sir, it’s been too long.” So they were likely not in touch for a long time and Ilya/Red was stationed in the US for who knows how long and for what mission (it seems he was translating a report on a USA/USSR Maritime Boundary Agreement when Katarina’s crossword code popped up on the screen). This “blank period” gives us room for that missing story piece (which likely happened around/after 1987) and a plausible reason for Dom to not be aware of it.

Dom was not aware of the existence of the Cabal, either, until Katarina got caught up in their web, so I think it’s v likely that they were also responsible for killing Ilya/Red’s family, which -- coupled w/ wanting to protect Katarina -- would be a proper, plausible motivation for him to take on Reddington’s identity given that it provided him w/ something even better than $40 million: tangible access to the Cabal and the Fulcrum. The new identity brought the seed money and a stepping stone to launch his Odyssean mission.

HISTORY

lily is born late january, 1960, as the second child to jonathan and miranda evans, a pair of muggles who have found the perfect balance between standing out and being ordinary. she grows up running after ( and sometimes in front of ) her sister, petunia, her best friend for most of her youth. her father works as a bank teller and – like many – hates his job. her mother is a stay at home mum, who mostly spends her free time tending to the family’s garden — their pride and joy.

lily has many memories of that garden. plucking flowers for her teachers, playing hide and seek, digging through the dirt with her tiny fingers, having barbecue’s and picknicks, laughing at her father’s deep hum of a voice as he complains about customers, crying in her mother’s arms when she scuffed her knees.

so life was ordinary and happy and simple. sure, lily was able to make flowers grow with a touch of her fingers if she concentrated deeply and caused small explosions when she raged ( which was often — lily was an energetic child, but an explosive one, too ). they explained it away with laughter, and kept on living. and then there was severus, whom she met when she was nine, who explained it all.

lily was a witch, and she loved it. she didn’t quite understand it, but she loved it. her parents seemed enthusiastic enough, too, even if they didn’t start believing it until a witch showed up on their doorstep. severus was a new friend, someone who’d help her brave this new world. and petunia … petunia was withering away from her life, slowly taking steps back and back until things seemed beyond repair.

going to hogwarts was confusing, at first. when she stepped on that train, something between her and petunia was changed forever, and lily shed a few tears before she met up with severus. once arrived, she was sorted in gryffindor in a matter of seconds. honestly, i don’t know what to say about hogwarts what wasn’t stated in canon — lily was a great student?? loved learning, had natural skills, was charming, etc. she wasn’t perfect, of course — she was prone to starting debates in class, to going on tangents, cursed quickly and easily and very … creatively

what i’m trying to say is she definitely wasn’t a goody two shoes?? yes, she cared about her education, but no, she was no stickler to the rules. lily was and is a firecracker, someone with fire, and there were plenty of times when she chose to disregard rules, or to go against what was asked for her. not out of spite or just because, always for a good reason, but still. also got into plenty of fights, mostly verbal, mostly with purists, but also with plenty of other people.

lily excelled in charms and potions, specifically. was a big fan of herbology as well, and transfiguration merely bc of mcgonagall.

and then, things seemed to shift. severus called her a mudblood. he was the only person who’d been part of her life before and during hogwarts, and now she couldn’t look at him any more without feeling nauseous. tensions were rising all around her, too. lily started wearing her blood status as a badge of pride even more than before. she became unforgiving and angry and determined to see change. she worked hard in her classes and worked hard on her friendships and tried not to combust with her rage.

and she somehow fell for james potter too, what a fucking tool. both of them. ugh. such a sappy story!!! but yes. they became a thing, and i stan.

lily graduated and had no clue where to go, until it dawned on her — her voice, her anger, her need to find truth: she could use that all. screw having a particularly magical job; lily applied at up and coming news site and magazine lumos and started interning there the summer after graduation. lily as a journalist is very important to me. her whole need for truth is in all honesty the most important thing about her so excuse me as i am about to go on a RANT.

i mean, lily herself is honest. brutally so. she can’t lie, either, and barely ever sees cause to. it’s partly just nature, but also a bit of nurture, i think. her sister, for example, so caught up in her lies and her wish for perfection seems altogether untrue because of it. severus, who hid true thoughts from her. her father, who never told his customers how annoyed he truly was. so many blood purists in the world, keeping their views carefully quiet. this war is based on lies. the world wizards live in is based on lies, and lily hates it. she seeks truth, always has, always will. it’s part curiosity, part anger.

her job as a journalist allows her to seek truth. it also allows her to cover the war, to talk about it, to hold interviews and seek out sources, to think of good questions, to be critical and empathetic and clever. all things lily likes and loves and wants to do.

lily also joined the order. i mean, what other option was there to fight? her family, her friends, she herself — everyone was in danger because of this damn war. there was no bone in her body that thought about sitting still, and when she was approached about the order, she didn’t think twice before saying yes. there is no way that lily ever accept the reality these death eaters want. no way. she’ll die before she sees that happen.

where her and james are at is still something i’m discussing with liz, but they’re def happily in love! lily is about to get pregnant too and she’s going to freak

okay so i know i’ve mentioned lily’s anger a lot, and i think that’s an important thing to talk about? lily is a very feeling person. she’s compassionate and kind and empathetic. she cares about others, and does so easily. she does so deeply. and she feels deeply too, always has. she cries easily, laughs easily, rages easily. combine those two things and the fact that there’s a war going on that’s fueled by such sickening bigotry … well, of course she’s fucking angry. her anger comes from her kindness, it comes from her compassion and her warmth. her motivation isn’t her anger, per se — it’s her wish to see the world different, to see it be good, but her anger is a huge drive.

lily loves muggle shit so much. she came into the lumos office and dropped a whole lot of muggle office supplies on her desk and said: “if i cant work on paper then im walking” and they were like … dude its ok lol wtf. she’s kind of very extra abt it but in this current economy she’s so set on being PROUD of being a muggleborn and she just loves muggle stuff too — i mean, wizarding fashion is Nothing compared to mom jeans and plaid shirts??? she loves muggle music too, especially indiepop and classic rock and just everything by Cool Ladies.

was raised catholic and still practices it but in a v liberal and modern way because she has seen a lot that with the more traditional views. so yeah, her thoughts on religion and especially the way it’s practised have shifted a lot. she still prays, goes to church every now and then ( but definitely not ever sunday ) and sticks with it, even if it’s hard to cling to faith when the world looks the way it does.

a big fan of white wine and rose, lolol. will also drink loads of beer if the occasion calls for it. a fun drunk, but also a mama bird when drunk, holding back your hair and drying your tears.

honestly lily is slightly dramatic, full of rage and a downright good person. such a good friend, holy shit. so blunt. so extra. so loving. dances and fights through life. laughs wildly and loudly. gives great hugs. supports blanket forts, always. loves loves loves.
