Frankenstein's Army (2013) Review

Near the end of World War II, Russian soldiers find themselves stuck behind enemy lines while searching for their fellow soldiers that they believe to of been taken by the Nazis. In the midst of their search they stumble upon a secret Nazi laboratory, only to be run by a deranged scientist who is creating his own army of robotic soldiers.

This film was done in a found footage format which we believe worked well for this sort of film. In the beginning portion of the movie we enjoyed the comedic relief as the Russian soldiers stumble around drunk after killing and raiding a small village. Once they found the secret laboratory things got a bit more serious. Inside the laboratory we got to witness all of the AMAZING creations by Dr. Viktor Frankenstein, and we have to say they were extremely creative and pretty darn badass!

However, this film as a whole unfortunately fell short for us. We felt that the plot was lacking in areas, and we were greatly disappointed in the use of the doctor. To have such a brilliant actor like Karel Roden and not use him to his full potential kind of bummed us out. We just felt he really wasn't in it enough, and his character development seemed rushed. There were parts of the film that didn't make sense, for example, multiple times the character filming was attacked by the creations but he was never hurt or killed... which would be ok if we were dealing with a campy B horror comedy, but we don't think that's what they were going for here. 

The potential for this film was huge. With a concept derived from what was believed to of happened after WWII, the Nazis trying to reanimate the dead... we couldn't of been more excited! Unfortunately even for fans of b movies, this movie lacked some key elements that would of helped the flow, and pure excitement of the movie. We do suggest giving this film a watch so that you can witness the greatness that is those creative creatures!
