Gai: “Crawling back” would imply he was with you in the first place, Kakashi, and he definitely wasn’t.

Naruto: Sensei … he’s tripped over a rock like five times in the past hour.

Sakura: He’s been scratching at his arms all morning … do you think he ran into that poison ivy bush a few miles back?

Sasuke: *scoffs* Some body guard … well Naruto, Sakura, it was nice knowing you. But I’m pretty sure this mission will be our last.

Kakashi: Kids … have a little faith, huh? Although I have complete confidence in Gai’s abilities … I DO have a backup. Just in case.

Kakashi: What the hell — !

Gai: Hello, Rival. I’ve been waiting for you. Keeping some pretty late hours, eh?

Kakashi: *taking off his coat* Yes? I told you I was having drinks with Obito and Rin tonight, didn’t I?

Gai: You did. That’s why I’m here; had to make sure you came home alone.

Kakashi, sighing: This again? Really? *puts his arms around Gai’s shoulders* I’d have hoped that in all these years we’ve been together, you’d have learned that you could trust me by now …

Gai: I DO trust you, Kakashi. It’s Mr. Uchiha that I need to keep my eye on.

Kakashi: *laughs* For God’s sake, do you know how ridiculous that is?! Obito’s been in love with Rin since we were kids! They announced their engagement last week, for goodness sake!

Gai: Still don’t trust him. He’s too much of a show-off where you’re involved.

Kakashi: How?

Gai: Like when he ate more ribs than me when we all went to that bbq place last month? If that wasn’t him showing off, then —

Kakashi: I hate to break this to you, but, Obito eats like that all the time. He wasn’t “showing off”, he was hungry and being a glutton.

Gai: It was a clear attempt to get your attention!

Kakashi: Oh he got my attention all right … when he puked all over the table and passed out. You DO remember how angry Rin was when I dragged him back home to her??
