So, anyway. I didn't technically close up shop here until June. I had already listened to so many records by then. It would be a shame not to drop (at least) one more year end list. The funny thing is that I have listened to more records this year than I have in recent years. All told, I ended up listening to around 125 new releases this year. I kept pretty detailed notes about most of them. I could have easily turned that into reviews or content. I would have stopped listening to new records had I done that though. Turning my enjoyment of music into a thing was a mistake. Anyway. Here is the list. It's 40 records. A good amount of these are jazz. Just be aware. If you're looking for dope punk rock records, this probably won't be the list for you.
In alphabetical(ish) order:

Alison Shearer - "View From Above"
Alvvays - "Blue Rev"
Angel Olsen - "Big Time"

Here I leave a list of Hispanic names for people who write Coco and Encanto fanfics or any other Hispanic inspired story. I'll have reblogged each gender section separatedly because, as always, Tumblr doesn't allow me to have more than 4096 words per post. I'll start with both genders names and red will be used for less common names.

Click here to see the male names and here to see the female ones.
This is so far the most of names I could remember. If I get to remember more, I'll be adding them all, of course, if Tumblr allows me to.
I have to point out that there are non-hispanic names that have become popular and that they don't have any translation in spanish. Some of them are "Brandon" "Brian" "Nelly" "Denisse" or "Leslie" Or that they actually have one but people prefer the foreign version. These ones can be "Marion" instead of "Mariana" "Karol" instead of "Carolina"
I guess you would also like to know the nicknames of each one of the names I provided you with, or maybe even last names. If you want me to dedicate some posts to that, let me know! For the moment, I hope all of these names are useful for your O.Cs and fanfics. 😉

I hope this unsolicited ask is ok! do you have any fun and upbeat recommendations for music that you've loved over the last little while? <3
it absolutely is! i love getting asks tho i'm not always good at answering! upbeat music is something i can definitely do, tho (this was supposed to be short but i got carried away. all links are for youtube):
tour de francia, vetusta morla (big fan of this album as a whole but this is the most upbeat one. see also fuego and cuarteles de invierno)
the entirety of life in cartoon motion by mika is one of my go to upbeat albums (specifically: grace kelly, my interpretation)
è un'altra cosa, francesco gabbani (SO incredibly upbeat. i love this song)
canzone per l'estate, canzone del maggio and il pescatore, fabrizio de andré (ive been listening to in direzione ostinata e contraria a LOT lately. lyrics aren't always happy per se but they are upbeat. canzone per l'estate especially. also carlo martello ritorna dalla battaglia di poitiers is just fun)
non è per sempre, afterhours
restless legs, keuning (half of this album is slow and half isn't but i love it. couple others i like are ruptured, stuck here on earth)
planetary (go!) and summertime, my chemical romance (my sibling finally managed to get me to listen to more than 2 mcr songs and i like this album. definitely upbeat though more on the angry end. vibes are fun tho)
1983, and almost all of pop psychology by neon trees (except voices in the halls. that is NOT happy. not all of them are happy upbeat but try also helpless, girls and boys in school, animal, everybody talks)
me ne frego, achille lauro (domenica and bam bam twist also but the first is my favourite of his i think. very upbeat)
vuurwerk, camille (it's just fun)
milano good vibes, and sabbie mobili, mahmood (i like a lot of his stuff but it's not all as bouncy as i was going for for this list. though i do recommend inuyasha, ghettolimpo, il nilo nel naviglio, and uramaki)
halla varlden, wilmer x (there's accents in there but my keyboard won't type them)
come mai, 883 and eccoti, maz pezzali
me voy, julieta venegas
hungriges herz, madsen
cutting myself off now because i can and will talk about music for hours but if you want any more feel free to ask! i have a LOT and i had to cut some out of this list cause it was getting too long

FROM THE SMALL’S ARCHIVES: JD ALLEN with Ian Kenselaar and Nic Cacioppo, SMALL’S JAZZ CLUB, 22 MARCH 2024, 10:30 pm
I listened appreciatively to JD ALLEN’s Americana album several years ago just as I was returning to this music. As appealing as its examination of the blues was, I didn’t fully warm to it. Still I remain curious, particularly as I think of tenor trios led by the likes of Melissa Aldana, Nicole Glover, and Julieta Eugenio. Glover worked with Nic Cacioppo whom I found busy with her and still here to the point of near distraction with Allen. But he was a robust riffy sound, so he avoids the provocation of overplaying. Still I’m glad Glover has Kayvon Gordon.
Ian Kenselaar managed to not get lost in the mix, a risk at Small’s on the stream, particularly with a drummer like Cacioppo. He was a fine complement to his leader and they found ways to wind around one another.
But it was properly Allen’s gig and he was quite appealing. His tone is rich and full. He can be riffy and punchy while also melodic and coherent. The playing was direct and accessible. The material, unannounced but perhaps a standard or two with, of course, the ballad most appealing to me as well as some blues gave them all something to chew on. I liked that it was a meat and potatoes kind of gig—hearty, tasty but not over-seasoned.
Allen has played with this band occasionally but only a few times at Small’s over the past five years. I like his playing and his commitment to the trio. So I want to return to his recorded output.

Boom Literario(Puerto Rico)
youtube
Inicio

(d) That the defendant, MILAGROS B. (i) That the parties hereto submit the foregoing compromise agreement as basis for the decision in the above-entitled case by the Honorable Court.
Tuguegarao, Cagayan, December 26, 1990.
On March 15, 1991, the trial court rendered its decision, approving and adopting in toto the compromise agreement, and ordering the participating parties to strictly comply with its terms. The bank moved for reconsideration of the trial court's decision and for the setting aside of the compromise agreement. The trial court denied the motion in its Resolution of February 7, 1992, thus, compelled the bank to elevate the case to the CA
Issue:
WHETHER THE COMPROMISE AGREEMENT ENTERED INTO BY AND BETWEEN THE HEREIN PLAINTIFFS-RESPONDENTS AND DEFENDANTS-RESPONDENTS AND APPROVED BY THE TRIAL COURT LEGALLY BINDS PETITIONER PNB WHICH IS NOT A PARTY THERETO AND CONSTITUTES SUFFICIENT LEGAL BASIS TO NULLIFY PNB'S MORTGAGE LIEN ON THE REALTY IN QUESTION.
Ruling:
We resolve to dismiss the petition for the reasons discussed below.
The compromise agreement disposed of the first two causes of action filed by plaintiffs-respondents Banatao, et al. against defendants-respondents Carag, et al., namely, the actions for (1) recovery of real property; and (2) cancellation of the OCTs, thereby settling the question of ownership between them. The trial court approved the compromise agreement in toto. The appellate court, in turn, upheld the trial court, but it proceeded to discuss on the third cause of action (for annulment of mortgage), concluding that the mortgages were void because the mortgagors were not the absolute owners of the mortgaged properties. In the words of the appellate court:
The main cause of action here is the "Recovery of Realty and Reconveyance," the "Annulment of Mortgage" is only an ancillary cause of action. In the decision approving the compromise agreement it disposes and finally determined the "Recovery of Realty and Reconveyance."
The moment ownership of the disputed real property was clearly proven to be that of the [plaintiffs-respondents], the question of the validity of the mortgage made by the [defendants-respondents] with [petitioner PNB] could easily be determined.
WHEREFORE, we hereby DECLARE the mortgages constituted on OCT Nos. 24800, 24801, 25217 and 25802 VOID and, for this reason, we DISMISS the petition. We AFFIRM the approval of the compromise agreement by the Court of Appeals and the disposition of the case on the basis of compromise. The order to remand the case to the Regional Trial Court, Branch IV, Tuguegarao, Cagayan, for further proceedings is therefore REVERSED.
Costs against petitioner PNB.

I would like to clarify on something I've seen the people have said a lot since The Sea Beast came out: the characters we see in the movie aren't pirates.
Why? Well, because pirates were people who stole property from other ships on the sea. There's no evidence in the movie that stated the crew of the Inevitable took away the richness of other nations. Not even in the name of the King and Queen as the corsaires did in their times.
The crew is completely a group of sea monster hunters sponsored by the Empire, they don't steal anything and aren't chased by any law.
I don't know if you like to call them pirates just because they behave like that, still, they're just common sailors and I don't see the point of calling them otherwise.

You can congratulate me if you want, but just to be clear, here in México there's not such a thing like a mexican party for Cinco de Mayo. Of course, we have the day off, there are some commemorations in schools and the representation of the Battle in Puebla, but that's all. So no, I don't celebrate it and I don't consider it as the National Mexican Day. Wait four months later for September 15 and 16 to arrive and then we'll be talking.

Hispanic names (Both genders)
Here I leave a list of Hispanic names for people who write Coco and Encanto fanfics or any other Hispanic inspired story. I'll have reblogged each gender section separatedly because, as always, Tumblr doesn't allow me to have more than 4096 words per post. I'll start with both genders names and red will be used for less common names.

I have something to tell to the people throwing soup at protection glasses of paintings
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First of, why do you attempt against art? Do you really think it's useless and doesn't make any difference? Do you have any idea of how much it costed materially, physically and psycologically to the artists, principally Monet and Van Gogh? For these artists, their artworks were literally their lives. If it wasn't about how art made them feel alive by expressing their most profound feelings, was about how with art, they literally won their daily bread. It was their salary. Art meant so much for them as a way to send a message, to open up minds and challenge an elitist society that found impressionism worthless. They were outcasts.
Mainly for Van Gogh, life was rough. He couldn't even afford food, he only sold one (1) of his many paintings while he was alive, and he had way worse phsycological problems that you could ever imagine to the point he had to be half of his life on a mental hospital. But art held him on the worst times, gave him courage to go on. Even more, he tried anything before art to please his parents, to feel worthy, to make him feel useful, but nothing except art made him feel like he was doing something self satisfactory. Art doesn't have more worth than life, but life without art is meaningless. Art is nothing more than the incarnated manifestation of life experiences.Twelve Sunflowers in a Vase isn't but part of a collection that Van Gogh painted to show how much life was worth living for because society wasn't paying attention to little details that form part of our daily lives and make life beautiful. He was a social activist, and it can be seen that portrayed in many of his paintings. That painting you're attempting to, is the ancestor of the camera your pal was holding. Art makes more concience than soup spilled on a canvas.
Your points are very valid, and I agree with you. The World is at war, hunger and poverty is everywhere and we're on a climate World change crisis. Even more, it's outrageously immoral the prices that these paintings cost today. I think it would be better that these museums were open to the public in general but in the end, there is maintenance staff that live from the salary that the money won generates. But how do you expect to end worldwide hunger when you're wasting food on a multimillion dollar painting? Why do you brag of being against oil when you dye your hair with chemicals and use new printed shirts made out of this oil? How much did it cost the ticket to enter these museums? Why don't you spend that money donating to organizations that urgently need it? If the cans of soup you're throwing at paintings were better donated to home shelters or feeding organizations, people would stop starving. If you're against something, reduce, don't waste, be congruent.
There are other things you can do to stop these problems. There's a peaceful economic sabotage that you can do, way more effective than you think:
Stop buying oil based products like plastic, hair dye, cosmetics, clothing. Go for naturally made things, for artisan made things. You can buy clothing on second hand stores, and you'll reduce the massive clothing production that wastes an amount of water litters and contaminates air, ground and water.
Buy to local sellers. Many products are transported by vehicles like cars, airplanes and ships that use oil fuel and generates high amount of co2. The closer you buy, the better you're helping to reduce oil use. Also, go for public transportation or, if your destination is near, you can walk or use other transportation like bicycles.
Reduce your electricity use and the time you spend online. In the present, the majority of electricity is powered by oil based power centers, and all of Internet data is stored on centers that have to be cooled down by electricity so, the less you stay on social media, the more you will prevent the massive production of unnecessary electricity.
Donate money if you can to organizations that search for other electricity generators that are eco-friendly. Donate old clothing to people that need it, and consume food responsibly so you don't leave leftovers. The food that you get left can be donated as well.
Stop blaming art, and start looking to what artists of the past have to tell you and teach you through their paintings instead. Art is World Culture Patrimony. Start living responsibly and take real action, change your lifestyle, and you'll see how change starts becoming true. If no one uses oil, governments will stop producing it.
I will end this post quoting the russian author Fyodor Dostoievsky: "Beauty will save the World"
And this section of one of the many letters Vincent wrote to his brother Theo:
“What am I in the eyes of most people — a nonentity, an eccentric, or an unpleasant person — somebody who has no position in society and will never have; in short, the lowest of the low. All right, then — even if that were absolutely true, then I should one day like to show by my work what such an eccentric, such a nobody, has in his heart. That is my ambition, based less on resentment than on love in spite of everything, based more on a feeling of serenity than on passion. Though I am often in the depths of misery, there is still calmness, pure harmony and music inside me. I see paintings or drawings in the poorest cottages, in the dirtiest corners. And my mind is driven towards these things with an irresistible momentum.”

LIVESTREAM (and Almost): JULIETA EUGENIO with Matt Dwonszyk and Jonathan Barber with sit-in from Davis Whitfield, SMALL’S JAZZ CLUB, 5 MARCH 2024, both sets
My Toledo friend was properly particularly taken with JULIETA EUGENIO’s 2023 album Jump which led me to two archived gigs at Small’s, one an album release, with her and her remarkable band. These sets are in anticipation of her upcoming release of Stay at the end of the month. It will be a promising extension of her cool lines and unhurried improvisations.
The gig was advertised as a quartet date, but Davis Whitfield only was there for a duet in the second set on the single Breath I and then a band version of Monk’s Reflections. The former continued her knack for thoughtful, subtle conversations and that Monk and a Panonica in the first set provided proper tribute to the master and insights into her approach to the tunes.
It was also an opportunity to hear her work with a pianist as she has embarked on the path of playing in trios. I have well learned that, despite my early exposure to the tenor trio (Sonny Rollins at the Village Vanguard, John Coltrane’s blues Chasin’ the Trane), that a robust muscularity isn’t necessary. Nicole Glover early on kicked such ass and Crash Trio Melissa Aldana was fuller than she is today. It is perhaps unavoidable to consider Eugenio in light of those comrades—in their 30s and female and, with Aldana, South American. I am fond of them all, but they are different.
Glover has started to let her music breathe more with a subtler rhythm section of Tyrone Allen and Kayvon Gordon. Aldana has worked with Pablo Menares forever and Kush Abadey for several years, but she also has open chordal instruments like Gadi Lehavi on piano and Charles Altura or Lage Lund on guitar. Eugenio’s partnership with Matt Dwonsyzk and, in particular, Jonathan Barber is rewarding. I’m not sure if Dwonsyzk’s bass would translate into other settings, but here his chords, double stops, and mirrored lines with his leader fill out the band’s sound. He is also perfectly in sync with Jonathan Barber who probably can’t help but be in sync with everyone. He is the gem of the band with brilliant additions to the conversation with both Eugenio and Dwonszyk during their solos and keeping Dwonszyk’s comments in mind as he soloed himself. I am struck with the three of them as a band, glad that she has worthy colleagues just as Aldana and Glover do.
