Surprise | Joe Burrow
Tumblr media
summary — Moving house is not always stress-free. But despite the last few hard weeks, Joe makes sure to put a smile on your face with a surprise
pairing — joe burrow x reader
words — 1952
notes — thanks for your request. I hope you like it!!🧡
The last few weeks and months had been associated with a lot of stress and headaches.
Anyone who loved moving and said that it wasn't so bad and stressful was completely wrong.
For Joe and you, there had been nothing worse in the last few weeks and months than setting up your new home and packing moving boxes.
The countless hours spent in various furniture stores had been a lot of fun for you, but when it came to painting various walls and putting together all the countless pieces of furniture, there was the occasional argument between you out of sheer desperation.
However, you were able to resolve the small arguments about how you should place the furniture in the respective rooms fairly quickly, so that every small argument was resolved within a few minutes.
"This is finally the last one." Joe puts the last box down in the hallway before running his fingers through his completely disheveled hair.
"We've finally done it," you murmur with relief and hand Joe a bottle of water before sitting down on the step and catching your breath.
In the last two hours, you've moved countless boxes from your old home to your new home and dragged them inside, so you're more than sure you'll be feeling sore muscles for the next few days.
"Finally," Joe agrees as he sits down next to you on the step and you rest your head on his shoulder.
"And who's going to unpack all our stuff now?" you mumble tiredly as you look at the piles of boxes blocking the passage to the open-plan living and dining room.
"That's the question..." Joe takes a big gulp from his water bottle before running his fingers through his hair again and letting out a loud sigh.
The move is already pretty exhausting as it is, but then there's the hot weather, which has doubled the strain on your strength.
"How about we take a little break first? We rest and eat a little and then we'll take care of all the boxes?" Joe suggests after a few minutes of silence, which almost caused you to doze off any second.
"Sounds like a great plan. If I knew where my bikini was, I'd jump into the cold water first and inaugurate our new pool."
A highlight for you is definitely the large pool in the garden, where you can swim a few lengths undisturbed or simply float in the water with an inflatable swimming animal.
"Fortunately, I've made sure that we can easily get to our swimming gear.
With a proud smile on his lips, Joe lifts a bag in front of your nose, from which he pulls out your bikini and you jump for joy, shrieking softly around your boyfriend's neck.
"You don't know how much I love you."
You give Joe a kiss on the cheek and then pick up your bikini.
Joe gives you a soft laugh in response.
"Let's see who's in the pool first." He more or less challenges you and before you can answer, Joe has already disappeared into the bathroom to get changed.
"That's not fair! You started way too early!" you shout after him with a laugh and slowly get up from the stairs.
You can already feel the muscles in your arms and thighs starting to ache slightly and you probably won't be able to move without pain tomorrow.
But you don't really care about that right now, because the only thing that matters right now is the pool of your new garden, so you quickly change into your everyday clothes and then throw on your favorite bikini before grabbing your towel and running into the garden.
Your old garden was quite small and had hardly any space to do anything big in it, which wasn't the case at all in the new garden.
The new garden is almost three times the size of the old garden and offers so much space for countless possibilities that the huge green space is almost crying out to be filled with beautiful things.
Once the house is ready, Joe and you will get to work on the garden, for which your Pinterest board was already almost overflowing with countless different possibilities just waiting to be realized.
"Do you want to keep staring at the garden or finally join me in the pool?" Joe's voice pulls you back to the here and now.
Your boyfriend is already in the water, floating on his back through the water, looking so relaxed and rested that a smile spreads across your lips.
"The water's even nice and cold" he adds as he slowly stands up and swims over to the edge of the pool.
"Just what I need, then."
A smile forms on your lips as you walk across the warm lawn to the pool and then sit down at the edge and let your legs slide into the cold water.
A soft sigh leaves your lips as you begin to feel the cold water on your skin. Joe is right, despite the heat today, the water is incredibly pleasant, so you slide into the cool water without hesitation and then stand opposite Joe.
"I was telling the truth," he smiles, trying to tell you that he's not always pulling your leg like you accused him of a few days ago.
Because every now and then Joe loved to pull your leg, more or less.
Just yesterday he tried to convince you to watch a movie that wasn't even supposed to be scary. But in the end, you were so creeped out that you had to bury your face in Joe's shirt for the rest of the movie.
"This time, but who knows when you won't. I think you like to tease me, Burrow, and that's not fair."
You splash a little water on his face, which only makes the person opposite you start to laugh quietly.
"Lie. I would never do this. How could I?" he replies with a laugh and a hint of sarcasm in his voice.
"You're such a liar," you pout lightly as you swim towards him and then cling to him, trying to somehow push him under the water, which turns out not to be too easy.
Joe is standing so firmly that you barely manage to move him even an inch.
A resounding laugh rings out above you, which only makes you pout even more.
"That's not fair."
"Oh, y/n. You really are incredibly cute." amused, Joe presses a gentle kiss to your forehead as he wraps his arms tightly around you and starts to swim off with you.
"I'll probably have to eat the whole pizza by myself today so that I can push you under the water tomorrow," you reply with a shrug and a big grin on your lips, to which Joe just rolls his eyes.
"How much time do we have until the pizza arrives?"
After you had put on your bikini, you ordered pizza for both of you via a delivery service so that you didn't have to cook anything or drive out to get something to eat.
"About another thirty minutes."
"That's enough." In one swift movement, Joe lifts you out of the pool and climbs out after you.
"Hey, we haven't been in the pool long," you pout again as Joe puts the towel around your shoulders and you snuggle up in it.
"We still have enough time for this in the coming weeks, months and years."
You watch Joe as he also puts a towel around his shoulders before holding out his hand to you with the words "Follow me, I have a suprise for you"
"A surprise? I love surprises!" you exclaim in anticipation as you take Joe's hand in yours and another soft laugh comes from Joe's direction.
"I know that. That's why I love giving you surprises." Joe squeezes your hand gently before walking with you across the lawn to the small hut at the end of the garden.
In fact, it wasn't exactly rare for Joe to give you a surprise.
He often brought you flowers, your favorite sweets or ice cream after training or after a game.
He also often took you out to dinner or on other romantic dates.
Joe's romantic side was one of the many reasons you fell in love with the Bengals quarterback.
"Do you want to show me all the big, nasty spiders in the cabin?" you ask with a slightly contorted face as you start to think back to the day of the tour.
Because on the day you first visited your dream house and were blown away by it, the hut more or less disgusted you.
Because the huge mess, which was accompanied by countless spiders and cobwebs in the hut, had already given you a big stomach ache during the viewing, so that you were already dreading having to clear this hut of all the spiders and cobwebs one day and then clean it out.
"No, don't worry," Joe assures you as you stop in front of the hut, which now has a new coat of white paint and no longer shows the hideous peeling paint, and Joe takes out the keys.
Outside the windows of the hut you can see white curtains that hadn't been there before.
Before you can even ask Joe why the cabin has curtains, Joe opens the door and gently pushes you inside and what you see inside leaves you open-mouthed.
The walls are lined with countless white bookshelves that reach up to the ceiling. There is a ladder on the shelves, which ensures that you can easily reach the top shelves.
All your books have found their place on the shelves and despite all this, there are still countless free compartments for more new books.
There is also a cozy armchair for reading, a matching stool, lots of fairy lights and lamps, as well as a rug that makes the room even cozier.
"Wow..." you stammer, overwhelmed, as you slowly turn in a circle, trying to take in every corner of the room.
Joe stands in the doorway and watches you with a broad smile as tears slowly well up in your eyes and you look over at him, moved.
"Surprise," he whispers as you cross the room in three long strides and fall into your boyfriend's arms as sobs escape you.
"Thank you, darling," you whisper, sobbing into his chest as he wraps his arms around you and hugs you gently.
"I thought this hut was perfect for your reading room. Here you can read undisturbed and run your book blog and all your other book channels."
"It really is. You don't know how much this means to me, thanks Joe." You slowly lift your gaze and look into your boyfriend's shining eyes.
"I was happy to do that, y/n. It's incredibly important to me that you have your own four walls where you can pursue your passion and since our house isn't really finished yet, it was important to me that this room is finished first and that you have it so that you can retreat and immerse yourself in the world of books."
Joe's words cause countless tears to start rolling down your cheeks.
You can't put into words how touched you are by his words and his surprise, so you whisper a quiet "Thank you" and then press your lips to Joe's.
And you realize once again how much you love Joe. And how grateful you are that he is by your side and that you are the one who gets to wake up by his side every day.

The Burrow home was warm, dimly lit, and smelled of tomato sauce. Joe and Y/N's three year old twins, Hudson and Elijah, were sprawled out on their living room rug, scribbling away in their new Paw Patrol coloring books. Y/N was washing a few more dishes as she waited for the garlic bread in the oven, and Joe was setting the table as he usually did to help his wife. He had just placed the twins' booster seats on their plush dining chairs as the oven began to beep — indicating that it was time for him to rush to the kitchen, so he could get the bread out of the oven before Y/N. He entered the kitchen just in time, seeing his wife bent over sliding an oven mitt on her hand.
"No, ma'am." He spoke, placing his right hand on the small of her back. "I'll do it."
Y/N straightened her back, smiling at the blonde man as she slid the oven mitt off of her hand. "I'm perfectly capable of grabbing a pan of breadsticks, honey." She said, earning a small chuckle from her husband.
"I know, mama." He took the oven mitt from her, moving it onto his much larger hand. "I just wanna make sure you don't strain yourself too much." The volume of his voice descended as he bent over, and quickly opened the oven before removing the fresh breadsticks from it. Y/N couldn't help but blush from how considerate her husband was, how he always had been. He was the exact same level of protective when she was pregnant with Hudson and Elijah, only he was much more anxious because they were the first pregnancy.
"I'll fix all of our plates." He placed the pan on the counter, throwing the oven mitt to the side. "You go grab the monsters. The food'll be on the table when you get back." He finished, placing a quick kiss to her forehead before she turned and exited the kitchen.
Waddling into the dimly lit living room, she slowly crouched down to her children's level. "Hi, mama." Hudson chirped. "Hey, mommy!" Elijah cheesed, both of them looking up from their coloring books for the first time in over ten minutes.
"Hey, champs." She ran a hand over their unruly blonde curls, "Are you guys hungry? Daddy is getting your favorite ready."
Their little blue eyes immediately widened in excitement, lifting up from their stomachs to their feet. "Sketti?" He showed his bright teeth as he looked at his mother, Elijah put a hand on his head, looking up at the ceiling with a groan.
"Ugh! We always have sketti, guys!" Y/N giggled at Hudson's excitement and Elijah's annoyance before nodding her head. "Yeah. Sorry, buddy. Sketti is really good and easy for mommy to make." Elijah crossed his arms over his chest with a smirk, giving his mother a knowing look.
"We have to clean up our mess before we eat, though. Okay?" Y/N said, her boys seemingly standing at attention now.
They nodded their heads. "Yes, ma'am!" They chirped, plopping down to their knees. Hudson grabbed their coloring books and neatly stacked them on the table, while Elijah quickly threw their crayons into a large pencil box. He closed the lid before Hudson threw their coloring books on top, grabbing it and sliding it on the table next to their long couch. "All done!" Y/N smiled brightly at her boys, feeling her heart swell with joy knowing how well her and Joe had been raising their boys.
She took her time to rise to her feet, being mindful of her big belly. Once she stood up straight, her boys reached out for her hand and began leading her into the dining room. Joe's face lit up seeing his favorite people, the twins released their mother's hand before running to their father's side instead. "Hey, dudes!" Joe smiled, placing the final plate down on the table and engulfing his sons into a tight hug. "You guys ready to eat?"
Y/N smiled as the boys vigorously nodded their heads. Joe placed them in their booster seats one at a time, where they immediately picked up their small forks and shoveled noodles into their mouths. Joe pulled his wife's chair out as usual, rubbing her shoulder gently once she sat down. "Thank you." She said, placing her napkin on her thigh.
The dining room was consumed by the quiet. The only noise being the scraping of forks on the plates, and the exaggerated slurping sound from the twins eating their dinner. Dinner always went this way, the first few minutes are quiet, then once Y/N starts slowly becoming full she breaks the silence. She finished chewing her garlic bread, wiping her mouth with her napkin before placing it down on the table. Her eyes sparked with enthusiasm, "Guess what, honey? The boys and I were thinking of coming to your game this weekend!"
Joe with a mouthful of spaghetti noodles, glanced over at their lively toddlers, and couldn't help but feel a wave of concern. "You sure about that, babe? The game can get pretty chaotic, especially with the boys being so energetic, and, well, you being pregnant." He said, his tone laced with concern as he spoke.
His wife only smiled, her eyes reflecting her determination. "I know it might be a lot, but they love watching you play, and I want them to experience that excitement. Plus, the baby can hear the crowd cheering, right?" She suggested. She was right, if they went, it would be her and the twins' first game in a while due to her pregnancy's waves of sickness. She had been feeling great all week, and had been itching to see Joe in action on the field.
Joe sighed as he placed his fork down, torn between wanting his family there and worrying about their well-being. "I just don't want it to be too much for you." He looked at his wife, "The stadium can get pretty loud, and the boys are two big bundles of energy."
Look, Y/N was pregnant, almost a week past her five month mark. Her belly wasn't huge, but it most definitely wasn't little either. She had been sick for most of the pregnancy so far, and sometimes between the pain it was fairly easy for her to become aggravated. Joe was very understanding in those times, and was always sweet to her no matter her attitude. She closed her eyes for a moment, taking a deep breath. "I appreciate your concern, Joe, but we can handle it."
Hudson, completely oblivious to the conversation, was busy playing with his food. While Elijah was occasionally mimicking the cheers of a football crowd. As the dinner conversation continued, Joe could sense Y/N's irritation slowly rising even though she was doing pretty well at containing it. "I don't know, babe. Can I just think about it a bit more?" He asked genuinely, looking toward his wife with brooding eyes.
She forced a small smile as she huffed out her nose, "Yeah, sure." She replied, standing from her seat and gathering her plate and silverware. "I think I'm gonna take a bubble bath. Can you put the boys to bed?"
Joe nodded, eyeing his wife's body language as she walked into the kitchen to put her dishes away. She came back into the dining room, placing a kiss on Hudson and Elijah's tomato splattered cheeks before making her way up the stairs. She didn't look at Joe again, letting him know that she truly was irritated with him now and he would have to smooth things over before bed.
He looked toward his twins with a smile, "You full?"
Y/N took her time in the bathtub. She felt guilty about leaving dinner abruptly, but she knew Joe would come around, even if it took just a little bit of time. Although she didn't feel up for a conversation right now, she wished Joe would come upstairs already because she hated being upset with him. That was really the only downside of her pregnancy, she was always so emotional and found herself getting irritated with her husband much easier. She finally decided to step out of the bathtub, grabbing a towel and wrapping it around her body.
Joe figured Y/N wanted to be alone for a bit longer, so once he had the boys sound asleep in their race car shaped beds, he went back downstairs and cleaned up the mess left behind by dinner. Y/N had just slipped out of the bathroom, when Joe quietly shut the door to their shared bedroom. He almost winced as he watched his wife walk right past him, grabbing some clothes before going back into their bathroom.
He sat down at the foot of their bed, thinking about how he should approach his wife on the soft topic. Once he had an idea, he untucked their sheets, set his alarms and turned on their bedside lamp. Trading his sweater and jeans for a pair of sweatpants, he made his way over to the bathroom door. He hesitated for a moment, before lifting his hand to softly knock on the door. "Y/N, can I come in, please?"
He heard a faint response, slowly opening the door to find his wife standing at the sink, applying a lotion to her under eyes. He took a moment to examine her features, a look of frustration and hurt was on her face. "I didn't mean to upset you and I'm sorry if it came across in the wrong way." Joe began, his voice filled with remorse. "I just worry about you guys at the game."
Y/N turned to face Joe, seeing the look of guilt and worry on his face. "I know, I just feel like you don't want us there or something." She tried to hush the last part of her sentence, but Joe heard her loud and clear. He could tell by the way her bottom lip began to puff out, she was slowly getting closer to a breakdown. He instantly brought his hands to her cheeks, running his thumbs over her under eyes. "I thought we were supposed to share these moments as a f—family." She stuttered, and her vision blurred from the tears that began to burn her eyes. Her pregnancy was effecting her emotions more than ever right now, and that alone was irritating her more than Joe.
"That's the last thing that I want." Joe said, "I'm just really worried, that's all." Y/N nodded her head, feeling a wave of defeat wash over her body. She nodded her head slowly, as she reached up to remove Joe's hands from her face. "Okay, honey."
Joe felt so guilty, hesitated before he decided to speak up again. He reached Y/N's hand before she could grab the door knob, "Hold up, you gotta let me finish." He said, causing his wife to look up at him with tired eyes. "Maybe it's just my nerves talking. I want you and the boys there more than anything. You just gotta promise me you'll take it easy, okay? Don't go all wifey-bear if I get sacked and scream so loud you lose your voice." Her eyes instantly lit up, she stood up straight to adjust her slouching shoulders.
"You know I can't promise that, Joey." She joked, a smile tugging at the corner of her lips. "I won't do too much screaming, I don't wanna scare my boys just yet." Joe could see how her mood had already changed, a warm smile of his own forming on his face.
"I'll bring them some ear protection, and I'll even keep your parents on speed dial if I need anything." She reassured his worries, a wave of relief washing over his features as he swept a few stray curls from her forehead. He rested his hand on her cheek, looking into her eyes lovingly. "Okay, mama." He whispered, licking his lips as his eyes grazed over her whole face.
Y/N noticed the way he wet his bottom lip, "Just gonna keep starin' at me, or are you gonna kiss me?" She teased, looking up at her much taller husband. Joe didn't think twice before placing a soft kiss to his wife's lips, pulling away much quicker than she wanted him to. He peeled back with a smirk, leaning over her shoulder to open to bathroom door. "Let's get some sleep."
He helped her into their large bed, throwing the blankets over her, she instantly pulled them up to her chin. Joe made his way to his respective side of the bed, sliding in the sheets beside his wife, who mindlessly scooted closer to him and laid her head on his chest. "I'm sorry for blowing that whole thing out of proportion." She apologized, tracing shapes onto her husband's chest.
Joe shook his head, rubbing circles on her shoulder. "You have nothing to apologize for, Y/N. Just because you're pregnant, doesn't mean you can't make your own decisions. I failed to recognize that. I'm sorry, baby." Joe apologized right back, causing his wife to look up at him with a remorseful expression on her face.
"It's alright, Joey. I get that you were just worried." She responded, moving her ring clad hand to his cheek, rubbing the stubble that he knew she loved so much. "I promise you, Hudson and Elijah are gonna have so much fun, it'll all be so worth it." Joe smiled warmly, thinking of the smile that will never leave their faces once they're at the game. It's not like it would be their first game, it'll just be their first one since their mom found out she was pregnant with their younger sibling.
"I know." Joe replied, watching as his wife's eyes clearly began to get heavier to hold open. He grabbed her hand from his cheek, moving it to his lips before kissing her palm. "Goodnight, mama. I love you."
"Goodnight, Joey. I love you more."
The stadium buzzed with anticipation as the Bengals star quarterback prepared for the upcoming game. A subtle layer of worry masked his usual game-day focus, even after the conversations he'd had with his wife a few nights before. His five month pregnant wife, Y/N, and their wildly energetic three year old boys, Hudson and Elijah, were attending the game tonight.
Joe paced nervously around the locker room, glancing at his phone for any updates. The last time Y/N had texted him was the let him know they were getting snacks first, seeing as she didn't want to be up and around much during the game. He couldn't shake the concern about any potential challenges of having his family amidst the excitement of a football game.
"Everything okay, Joe?" Tee Higgins inquired, noticing the furrowed brow. He chewed a piece of bubblegum harshly, cocking his head to the side to look at his quarterback.
"Yeah, just a bit worried. Y/N's pregnant and the boys can be quite the handful. I want them to enjoy the game, but it's chaotic out there." Joe admitted.
His teammate, understanding the delicate balance between family and the intensity of the game, offered a reassuring nod. "They'll be fine. Your family is strong, just like you, man."
Just then, their coach gathered all their attention and Joe quickly thanked Tee for his understanding before grabbing his helmet.
As game time approached, Joe couldn't help but steal glances at the stands. When he spotted Y/N, her baby bump noticeable, with Hudson and Elijah, wide-eyed with excitement, a mix of anxiety and joy flooded their emotions. They both wore some ear protection that looked like it could weigh their head down if they leaned to one side, he smiled seeing his wife's hand raise in the air to give him an excited wave.
Y/N watched the whole game on the edge of her seat, occasionally standing up despite her best efforts to stay seated — trying her best to follow Joe's safety requests. Hudson's smile never fell, he was screaming louder than anyone in their section for his father. Elijah clapped in excitement, looking over at his mother and pointing to his father every three or so minutes. They had been to a few games before, but they were a little older and had a better understanding of the sport. They were already talking about playing it once they started school next year.
Y/N clapped her hands loudly as halftime finally approached, she knew Joe would be over there soon. Not even ten minutes later, her blue eyed husband was standing in front of them on the sidelines. "Hey, you guys okay?" he greeted, a touch of concern in his eyes.
"We're doing great, honey. And so are you." Y/N smiled, reaching her hand down to touch Joe's. Joe smiled widely, relieved to know that his family was enjoying themselves. Hudson and Elijah, both bouncing with enthusiasm, chimed in, "Daddy, did you see us? We waved at you!"
Joe's worry melted into a grin. "I saw, guys!" He reached up high to touch both of his son's heads. "That's awesome. Just make sure you're having fun, okay? And both of you be good for mama!"
Due to his coach's demands, Joe had to jog to the locker room after their interaction. Y/N, Hudson and Elijah waved him goodbye and took their seats until the second half.
As the game progressed, Joe felt a newfound motivation fueled by the presence of his family. Y/N, attuned to his emotions, whispered words of encouragement, both calming and inspiring. Meanwhile, Hudson and Elijah's cheers echoed through the stadium, each one a source of pride for his quarterback father. The Bengals came out on top, the game ending with a touchdown made by a pass from Joe. After the game, Y/N grabbed all of their belongings and both of her sons hands, being careful as they went up and down steps. They stood outside the locker room as she'd done since her and Joe began dating in college, both her and her boys bouncing with anticipation for the man to come out to them.
Once he emerged from the locker room, he swung his bag to his back, took Hudson onto his hip and hugged his wife with one arm around her neck. Y/N held Elijah on her hip as well. "You guys made this win even sweeter. Thanks for being here." he said, genuine gratitude in his eyes.
Y/N hugged him tightly, "We wouldn't miss it for the world. We're your biggest fans, no matter the chaos." She raised a hand to rank through his blonde hair, tears prickling in her eyes. They weren't tears of sadness or fear, just tears of pure happiness.
As they left the stadium, the Burrow family walked hand in hand, the worries of the game day transformed into a cherished memory. In that moment, Joe realized that having his wife and sons by his side added a layer of joy and support that went beyond the triumphs on the field. They were a team, weathering the excitement and challenges together, creating a bond that extended far beyond the football game.

[ warnings: fluff w/ a pinch of smut, newlyweds alert. new years update so im sorry if it’s short i just wanted to write sumn about joe:) ]
Tumblr media
“joe! the fight is on!” i yelled as i ran downstairs, rushing to turn the tv on as joe followed behind as i was in a robe, and he was in his, open and out.
“alright, here i come, mrs. burrow.” joe jokingly chuckled as he grabbing a water before he sat next to me on the couch, grabbing a water before immediately tuning into the main event of the card.
me and joe normally bond on things, even special date nights reduce to ufc fights or any type of martial arts because it’s rare for a girl to like it.
especially since we were newlyweds and we had all the free time since the season was over. but not only do we do, we made up a tradition to do on these fights. it encites the fun within it all.
betting on it.
“usman has leon in the second around by knockout.” joe smiled as he took a sip of his water, making me blink out and stare at him.
“nope, leon has it, third round, knock out. bet on it.” i smirked that the last part as i looked over at him, smirking to say the least, before looking at me the same way.
“okay, winner…gets 500 dollars.” joe shrugged as i looked over at him, smirking as he did the same.
“okay, but let me raise the steaks. double it and the winner gets the cookie jar money.” i smiled as joe furrowed his eyebrows, looking at me as i sat up.
he was taken aback by that, but he wasn’t turning it down.
we had a cookie jar with money we randomly have left to save for any future things we planned on, but for right now it was just sitting there at that moment.
it was a total or near estimate of 3,800-4,000 dollars in there, but who really was counting?
“alright. you’re on beautiful.” joe confirmed as he kissed my lips, making me blush, he’s so cute.
I YELLED loudly as i jumped up and down, my prediction was right after all.
joe looked defeated in some way but smiling because this was the best ever bonding time we’ve ever had, especially date night kinda things. just proud of me but it kinda sucked he lost thousand dollars.
“i told you! didn’t i not?” i squealed as i jumped up and down on the couch, making joe laugh, his face turning red at his wife being hyper.
“alright, alright beautiful. you got me there. congrats.” joe chuckled as his face turned red making me slouch right back into his lap, facing him.
“mnm…thank you mr. burrow.” i smiled as he kissed me on my cheek, tapping my thigh as the ppv concluded.
“what do you plan on doing with the winnings anways? shopping?” joe asked curiously as he looked at me with his hooded blue-icey eyes. lord. if looks could kill.
i took it in as i giggled a bit, but i thought about it for a second before smiling, adverting my eyes back to him.
“im gonna use it…and the cookie jar money…go get your whole mancave redecorated like you asked, for your birthday baby.” i smiled widely as joe’s eyes lit up, making us share a passionate kiss, whi body language changed immediately.
he loved how i was never selfish and always thought about him, even though he’s great at taking care of me in return.
i love him so much.
“really?” joe asked again as i chuckled, confirming it as i yelped at him randomly picking me up out of nowhere.
“i love you so much y/n.” he whispered as i smiled, doing the same.
“i love you more…but where are we going? we have like two more fights to watch.”
“nope, but you know what i really wanna do? i wanna go some actual rounds, and make you tap-out…hm?” he bit his lip at me as i wrapped my arms around his neck, returning the same energy look.
the sexual tension. “mhm…that’s if you don’t tap out on me.” i playfully smirked.
“trust me. i got enough energy.” joe smirked as he took me into the back, making me squeal the night played out well.
and we did some unspeakable rounds that night…date night successful.
[ HELLO?? nobody asked for some joe newlywed fluff with a pinch of smut HUH? but happy new years! 😗 even though they lost so idk why im updating. ]

Why'd You Leave Me: Joe Burrow
Joe Burrow Masterlist
word count: 300
Description: Inspired by this video I saw on Instagram
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A/N: I got inspired to write this after watching this video on Instagram, I'll try to post the link in the comments!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You and Joe had been laying down catching up on one of y'all's tv shows when you noticed that Joe had fallen asleep. You quietly turned off the show and put on the one that you guys used for background noise when y'all cleaned and slept, so he wouldn't wake up. You grabbed your phone and kindle and quietly made your way out of y'all's room so you wouldn't disturb him knowing how tired he has been lately.
You took a seat on the couch and covered up with a blanket and started reading your kindle. It was probably thirty minutes later when you were deep in your book when you heard footsteps making you look up and see a very sleepy Joe standing there with a pout on his face.
"Hi my baby." You said locking your kindle as you looked at him.
"Why'd you leave me?" He asked looking at you.
"Awh Joey, you fell asleep while we were watching our show and I didn't want to disturb you." You said to him.
"I turned over and didn't feel you. You just left me." He said breaking your heart.
"Come here Joey." You said opening your arms and motioning for him to come lay down with you.
He makes his way over to you and lays down in your lap wrapping his arms around you, as you ran a hand through his hair.
"I don't like waking up and you not being here baby." He said quietly.
"I'm sorry Joey it won't happen again, I promise." You said placing a kiss on his forehead.
You soon felt him drift back asleep. Who knew your 6'3 quarterback boyfriend was so clingy while he slept?

Could you write a Christmas baking turned naughty with Joe burrow? Maybe you’re trying to bake some cookies for the Christmas party but he’s being all needy
Frosting Looks Better on You|| Joe Burrow x reader

•summary: Baking for the annual Bengals WAGs Christmas party takes a naughty turn
•warnings: fluff, suggestive language, horny joe, licking frosting off of body parts, allusions to smut
Tumblr media
“Joe?” you asked sweetly, “could you hand me the frosting?”
He nodded at your request, pushing himself off the counter and grabbing the frosting from over by the oven.
You were currently baking and decorating cookies for the annual Christmas party for the Bengals wives and girlfriends. Each year you all throw a party, with each girl being responsible for bringing a different food or beverage. This year you were responsible for the cookies.
Joe handed you the bowl of homemade buttercream frosting. You grabbed the bowl and thanked him before going back to work on decorating the sugar cookies. As you were frosting the cookies, Joe was eyeing you from behind. He was eyeing you hard, too.
Something about the way you looked hard at work concentrating on making those cookies look perfect had him intrigued. The outfit you had in wasn’t helping his thoughts either. The all black jumpsuit hugged your curves perfectly and showed just enough cleavage to make him want to take you right there in the kitchen.
You had just frosted a fifth cookie when Joe had had enough of just admiring you. He needed you, and he needed you badly. He pushed himself off the counter once again, huffing out a sigh as he did so. You chuckled at the sound of your boyfriend’s dramatic sigh. You knew exactly what had him bothered.
Joe walked up behind you and wrapped his arms around your waist. Tugging you into him as you picked up another cookie. You moaned softly at the feeling of his lips on your neck, sucking so harshly at the skin that you were sure he would leave bruises. He licked a stripe up your neck before gently biting at your earlobe. Your eyes fluttered closed at the feeling as your arousal started to grow. You couldn’t though…your party is in an hour and a half and you still had two dozen cookies to frost.
“Joe,” you whimpered softly as your boyfriend continued to suck violently at your neck, “I c-mph, can’t. These have to be done in an hour.”
“The cookies can wait, but you can’t and neither can I.” You scoffed lightly, trying to tear your needy boyfriend away from you. “Oh I can wait.”
You really couldn’t—at least, not anymore at.
“Your body says otherwise.” Joe smirked as his hands came up to your breasts, playing with your hard nipples. You shuddered at his touch, throwing your head back into his shoulder as he palmed your breasts. Joe always knew how to get you to unwind under his touch. You dropped the spoon you were using to frost the cookies.
“Besides,” Joe said as he let go of your chest. He turned you around so now you were facing him. He had a sly smile on his face as he spoke, “this frosting looks better on you anyways. Tastes better too.”
You eyed Joe as he swiped his index finger along the rim of the frosting bowl. He kept his eyes locked with yours as he slowly brought his finger down to your chest, spreading the frosting all along your breasts and cleavage. Your breath hitched at the feeling of his finger spreading the sweetness over your body. Joe continued to eye you as he sucked his finger clean. You bit your lip in anticipation, letting out a soft whimper as he slowly brought his face into your cleavage. Joe started to lap up the frosting in a slow-teasing way, making sure to look up at you every now and then as he licked you clean.
“Joey,” you moaned out as you brought your hands up to his blonde locks that were growing out again, “don’t stop, feels so good.”
Joe smirked as his chuckle vibrated against your chest, making your body jolt. “Wasn’t planning on it baby girl, now,” he put his hands on the back of your legs, bringing them up to your butt cheeks and giving them a generous squeeze. “Jump.”
You jumped up on the counter, pushing the cookie tray to the side as Joe removed his mouth from your sticky chest. You both let out a moan of pleasure as you kissed hungrily on the kitchen counter.
The cookies could wait.

Tumblr media
Sat in the airport, legs over your luggage, you started to question the decision you had made a month ago. It all started in June, when an old colleague from LSU reached out to you via email with a simple, yet — to you — terrifying invitation.
Your colleagues from university were planning a Fourth Of July party in Baton Rouge, the one place in earth you swore to never step foot on again. Well, it's not like the city itself had done anything to you, more like the college life did. Your college years were a part of your life you desperately wanted to forget, partly because going to LSU meant giving up on your dream of studying abroad, and partly, well, let's just say a certain blonde with a degree on consumer and family financial services was to blame.
With an acute voice echoing through the airport gates, you sighed, getting up to get on the plane.
As the aircraft was in the air, you get your playlist blasting on the headphones and not long after that, you drift off to sleep.
You wake up when there's 20 minutes left to land on the city, and as you get your phone to send a message to your friend, Emily, the device decides to make this trip a little harder than it should have ever been. On that bright screen, on a small box with "Years ago on this week.." written over it, was the picture.
It was night when you woke up, tangled on the white strawberry sheets of your own dorm bed. Opening your eyes quietly, you saw the one man that had put you on that position earlier. Sat with his back to you, there was Joe. He had only his sweatpants on, and you could see the reddish marks, the ones caused by you, were starting to fade on his skin. His hair was messy and he breathed slowly, seeming oddly calm giving what had just happened.
Joe and you had been, well.. enemies? since you could remember. It all started in school, you had a dream of becoming a world famous dancer, a cheerleader in college, and Joe just thought it was stupid, all of it. He was quite shy, but you knew he had a dream as well. Joe wanted to be a football star, but nobody knew that. He'd just let it slide once when you two were fighting on the school's playground. When you two got to the age in which people go to university, you thought you had finally seen the last of him. How foolish, truly. After two years of studying engineering at Louisiana State University and being in the cheerleading team, there he was, ready to make your life miserable for another few years.
That was, of course, until now. You'd never imagine you see him like this; half naked, messy hair and your cat on his lap as he caressed her head, whispering in a baby voice to her as she purred softly.
You smiled, because why wouldn't you? Shifting quietly on your bed, as if he was a scaredy animal you could scare away with any abrupt movements, you get your phone, taking a picture of him. It was dark, blurred, but you didn't mind, you could tell it was Joe, his big silhouette right in the center of the photograph. In your head, you knew you wouldn't need to keep this blurry memento, you were certain the amount of opportunities to take pictures of him now were infinite, or so you thought, drifting to sleep again.
The pilot's voice pulls you out of your little daydream, announcing the plane had arrived in Louisiana.
"I shouldn't have come." You chant in your head as you exit the plane, heading over to the landing area to wait for Emily.
You and Emily had met in LSU, and became inseparable since then. She was your roommate and, despite being highly introverted, you managed to develop your longest friendship ever with her.
When Anna, the colleague that invited you to the party, emailed you, Emily was the first person to text you, begging you to come and enjoy a night with the people you hadn't seen in so long. She also missed you a lot since both of you hadn't seen each other much after college, of course, you somehow managed to see each other every year and talk almost everyday, but it wasn't as close as you wished.
Emily lived in Louisiana with her husband, Dave, who had also gone to LSU with you, and of all the times you had seen each other, she had gone to your home, so you technically kind of owed this to her.
Waving in a frantic manner, there she was. Slightly different from last time, but still your best friend. You smile, walking towards her.
"I'm so glad you're here!" she says once she gets a hold of you, hugging you as if you could run away at any moment. You kind of wished you could, but she made everything better. She had that superpower.
"I'm glad I could come, Ems. I've missed you so much." You smile, looking at her as she helps you with your heavy bags.
The two of you start walking towards the exit to her car, catching up after a long time. Emily put you to date on what every single old colleague was up to now, and you laughed at the amount of gossip she was able to retain.
"Where's Dave?" You furrow your brows, just realizing someone was missing.
Emily opens the trunk and you help her put your bags on it. Panting after carrying so much weight, she replies "Home. He was working so he couldn't come, but he's super excited to see you." as you two get into the vehicle.
And with that, the engine starts and soon you're on the highway, on the way to her house.
The week in Emily and David's house had passed very quickly, and you throughly regretted ever wishing you hadn't came. She had shown you every bit of the city, and things had changed a lot. Now, you were in their guest room, getting ready to the reason that had you coming all the way from New York to Louisiana.
It was fourth of July, and you had heard fireworks all day around the neighborhood, even stopping to watch them for a bit before going for a shower.
"They're pretty, aren't they?" Emily said through the kitchen window as she saw you looking up outside.
"Very much." You turned around, smiling at her.
"Anna told me they're having fireworks tonight, I think you'll like it."
You got a bit excited, you've always loved fireworks, they were like drawings in the biggest canvas you could ever get, the sky.
"Looking forward to it!" You said, going up the stairs to get ready.
Looking in the mirror, you sigh. You wore an USA flag bodysuit and jean shorts. This whole patriotism seemed stupid, but Emily dragged you into it, alleging you were allergic to fun. Nonetheless, you looked good.
"Y/N! Let's go, we're gonna be late!"
Breathing in deeply, you close your eyes and stare at yourself one last time. You knew Joe would probably attend the party, he loved parties, and still, you came. You couldn't give up now, you couldn't get this stupid thing get to you. He probably doesn't even remembers everything that happened that day.
You shake your head, moving those thoughts away as you go downstairs, seeing Emily and Dave ready sitting on the couch.
"You look amazing! I told you you'd rock this fit." she gets up, hugging you.
"You too, Ems." you laugh, fixing your hair after she lets you go. "Shall we?"
"After you, Miss United States!" David jokes, signaling for you to get out of the house first. You laugh, rolling your eyes.
The three of you get in the car, and the drive to the party is filled with singing and more of Emily informing you of your colleague's current lives.
When Dave finally pulls over to the party, you can already hear the loud music in the car. Looking out the window, you see the last thing you'd expect to see today: Joe's parents house.
When Robin and Jim were away, Joe would always throw parties in his house instead of in the frat house. It made sense, giving the fact his house was a bit bigger. Snapping back to reality, you froze, but still had hopes of not seeing him tonight, after all, the amount of people that would come to the party was huge.
Entering the house, you were struck by fairy lights hanging on the roof, from a wall to another, and USA flags all over the house. There was a big wood table in a corner with punch and other drinks, but other than that, the place looked pretty much the same. It was weird coming back after all these years, but it still had a familiar air to it.
After almost 50 minutes, Emily was already drunk and fooling around somewhere with her fiancé. You were finally alone, and by now you had roamed the entire house, gladly not meeting Joe not even once. You thought about leaving, but not before going to your favorite spot in the house, the only one you hadn't explored today yet.
Joe's house had a small attic, which you adored. When he threw parties in high school and you couldn't get away from your friend's pleas to come, this was the place you found yourself in. So, after 6 years, there were you again. On that narrow wooden space that had a somewhat medium window with a view to the back of the house, where the party was most wild. You were surprised to see they hadn't moved a thing, it felt like you had time-traveled to your school years.
In front of the window, there was an old blue armchair, the one you would sometimes sleep on waiting for Emily and the others to want to go home. The rest of the attic was filled with boxes, some with trophies and pictures of Joe, with his family, his team, and his coach.
You sat on the armchair, arms hugging your knees as you looked at the window, the music that once made your head hurt because of the volume was long gone, sounding now like white noise.
Entering the football team frat house, you could see neon lights and hear music blasting through the speakers. Soon enough, all the other cheerleaders and Emily were dancing and having fun, after all the team had won the game, there was no reason not to celebrate. Except for you, because a win for LSU immediately meant running into Joe Burrow, or seeing his face all over the university for a week or so.
Sitting on a couch in the living room, you had a privileged view to the enormous door that swung open, revealing a sweaty but smiley Joe. He walks in as he normally does, exhaling an air of cockiness around him. He has a bottle of beer in hand, and already looks drunk as he laughs to his teammates. After being showered in praises and congratulations, he's free to walk a bit further, which is when he sees you. His eyes immediately glance at your jersey, and you immediately regret having done what you did.
Earlier that day, before you left for the party, it started to snow, and you realized you hadn't brought a single coat to the game. The girls were about to leave and they didn't want any delays, so you looked around for anything that could cover your body and protect you from freezing.
The only thing you could find was an old LSU football team jersey with the name "BURROW" stitched on the back. You sighed, but tried to confort yourself by thinking nobody would see it, after all, the lights at the party were pretty low.
All of it cumulated to this moment. This disgusting look he gives you as he looks down, glaring at his jersey. "What the hell are you wearing?”
Of course he would recognize it, it was his, after all. You cursed yourself mentally in all the languages you know, and prayed that Emily would come to you out of the blue to take you home. She didn't.
"Please, don't start, Joseph." You say, trying to ignore him. "I was cold and this was the only thing I could find."
“Yeah, right. Just say you were trying to piss me off, like always.” he scowls.
"Not everything is about you, QB." You get up, furrowing your brows at the audacity, annoyance dripping in your voice.
“Everything is most definitely not about you either, cheerleader.” he scoffs, and his teammates laugh. “You're still not even good at that.”
"And you're still not even good at your little games, idiot." I scoff. "Let me remind you, I'm the one going to the national competition while you're still playing football in college."
This time, his friends mutter a low "oooh".
He's stunned for a moment, then he scowls and gets closer to your face. “Watch your mouth. This is my last season here anyway, then i’m going straight to the NFL and everyone's gonna know my name, who knows what you’ll be doing.”
You just still didn't know he actually meant it.
"The NFL?" You laugh, hands on your chest. "You know, Joey.." You say, calling him by the nickname his friends had given him, in an attempt to piss him off. "To be on the NFL, you gotta be one of the greats." You stare at him, getting closer. "Something you.. are not."
He scowls, and his friends are surprised, the nickname really got to him. Before you can get another word in, he grabs you and pulls you close, his voice is low and cold. “Who the fuck are you calling Joey? You don’t get on the nickname level with me, Y/N."
Your squirm under his touch, trying to get off of him. A bit of fear seems to be creeping up in your eyes, and you try your best to not let it show.
"Don't fucking touch me!" You slap him, getting some inches away and staring at him in awe.
He recoils a bit, then glares. His lips are trembling, and you’ve never seen him angry like this, even his breath is shaky. He doesn't look like the Joe you once fed turtles in kindergarten with. He clenches his fist and looks around, he’s got the attention of everyone at the party “Are you seriously gonna slap the quarterback?”
"Fuck you! You're a horrible person that thinks that because you're a star you can do whatever the fuck you want, well, breaking news, YOU CAN'T." You scoff, angrier than ever, while removing the jersey off of you, throwing it at him, eyes swelling with tears.
"You're a fucking parasite, a manwhore who thinks everything's about you. I hope you never get to the NFL." This time it comes out lower, like a personal threat. You desperately crave to hurt him in a way he won't be able to laugh at or make jokes. Turning around, you walk out of the house, everything seemed to suffocate you.
He's stunned, no ones ever talked to him like that, specially you, the one person he was so used to getting shit from. He just stares at your back, the BURROW that was once hidden by your messy hair now gone, in his shaky hands. A range of emotions go through him. He's mad, but then there’s a sadness, he feels unwanted, as if the only reason people talk to him is because he is the quarterback. He doesn’t want you to leave like this, but he doesn’t know what to say, so he just yells “Where are you even gonna go?!”
"Somewhere you're not!" You scream, not even bothering to turn around to face it, crossing the door and walking through the garden in front of the house.
At this point, the party had gone back to what it once was, a loud, fun mess.
He sighs, then chases after you. When he catches up, he grabs your arm and forces you to turn around to face him. “Where the hell do you think you're going? You're not safe, there's a bunch of drunkards out there today."
"Like you give a fuck." You shrug, shaking your arm to get away from his grip. You turn around and start walking, the cold getting to you again. The snow fell mercilessly and all you had was the thin sweater that covered your cheerleading clothes.
He sighs, then realizes you’ll freeze outside. He puts his arm around you and pulls you in. You're so incredibly small compared to him you can feel his heart beating fast and his muscles tense from anger. “I do care. Just… come back inside, you're gonna freeze out here."
"Leave me alone! I fucking hate you!" The tears start falling as you punch his chest in a frantic way. It didn't hurt him, of course, but you didn't know that.
He scowls when you do so, gritting his teeth, then just watches you cry. He sighs and pulls you in tight, his body heats yours up. He rocks you like a baby, and whispers “Let me explain. I didn't meant for things to be like this.”
"Like what? Like living hell?" You away from his embrace, but part of you wishes you hadn't. Joe was so big and warm you didn't even needed a coat. "You hate me. Why are you even doing this?" you yell, the loud blasting music from the party muffling your screams. "Go back to your stupid party with your friends and your girls. I'm going home."
He grabs your arms and makes you turn to him. “I don’t.. hate you. I just get mad and take it out on you. I know that’s not right, i’m trying to fix it. Let me take you home.”
"Oh please." You scoff, tears still falling. "No need. I'll walk." You say, shivering due to the cold.
He sighs again. “You're not going home alone, it's not safe. I don’t care if you hate my guts, i’m not letting you walk alone.”
Joe's words and actions pierce you like a bullet. Never, in a million years, you had imagined you'd hear him talk to you like this. Of course, it was still rude, but there was a sweetness to it. You say nothing, as you couldn't bring yourself to. As he puts the jersey you once threw in his face back on your shoulders, the shivering reduces a bit, and your lips stop trembling, their reddish color that was once white from the cold, reappearing. His big hands stroking your back felt so gentle, and helped you get rid of the cold as he gently and quietly led you to his car. He opens the door to the passenger seat and waits for you to get in. You do so, surprisingly, and he closes it, turning around to get into the driver's seat.
He climbs in the drivers seat and starts the engine. The warm air that comes out of the vents warming you up as he looks over at you. You watch him drive, he seems so focused, and when he speaks, it’s in a quiet voice “I'll walk you to your door, then you should probably take a hot shower to warm up, your gonna get sick like this.”
"There's no need. I'll survive." you say, pulling the jersey closer and breathing in the warmth.
“I'm not gonna risk you getting sick just because you decided to be stubborn now.” You can’t help but notice how gentle his voice is, a nice contrast to how cold he seemed towards you at the party.
"Fine." You whisper, and after a few moments in silence, he finally pulls up to the dorms. You open the door of the car and get out, the cold getting to you again. You sigh.
Joe does the same and the two of you walk in silence towards the entrance of the building. Once you reach the door, you turn around, "You've done enough, Burrow. I mean it. Go back to your party, you have a win to celebrate." You say, grabbing your keys and unlocking the door.
“I wanna see you safe in your house before i go, I feel responsible for you getting cold out here.” he doesn’t want you to think he doesn’t care about you, when it’s clear from the way he’s acting he only thinks of you and your safety right now.
You nod, his gentle words feeling like daggers in your heart, making you almost regret the way went a few rounds with him earlier.
Getting into your aparment, you take off your shoes, holding the door for him to do the same, and when he does, you lock it again, before making your way to the small kitchen.
"Can I get you anything? Water, tea..?" You ask, trying to be a good host. You and Emily never expected no one to come to the apartment, so there was never many food or drink options.
He follows you to the kitchen, shrugs and looks around. The apartment is not very big, but it’s homely. From the kitchen, you can see the entire living room, including the door, and then there's a small hallway that leads to the rooms and bathroom.
He looks at you when you offer him something and smiles, it breaks his scowl, it looks good on him. He looks at you for a moment, then says “Can i get a glass of water?”
You nod and get on your tip toes to open the cabinet, getting a glass and then filling it with water, handing it to Joe as you take a seat on one of the stools in front of the kitchen's island.
He takes the glass and drinks from it, still holding on to his scowl, but it slowly drops off as he begins to relax. He sits down beside you, close enough that his knees are touching yours “Your apartment is so different from mine.”
You sigh, making small talk with him was the last thing on your list for today, but still, you gave it a shot.
"How so..?" You say, not even bothering to look at him. Instead, the cup of water you had poured to yourself in front of you was the one getting all of the attention. The fact that the only person in the entire campus that hated you was the one to bring you home was already embarrassing enough, so you were still to wrap your mind around the fact he was still here.
He watches you and looks around the kitchen, not sure how to explain it to you. For a few moments he just looks at you, trying to gather his thoughts. “I don’t know how to explain it, it’s just different from anything i’m used to.”
"Calling me poor now, are we, Burrow?" You shrug, letting a small laugh fall from your lips.
He glares, then realizes you were joking and laughs a little bit. You can notice he still smiles when he looks at you, which is surprising considering how he always scowled at you. “I'd never call you poor, especially not after seeing your outfit tonight.” he looks you up and down.
"Mr. Joseph Burrow's a fashionista?" You chuckle, this wasn't something you'd ever expect from him. There wasn't any monograms or brand names on the sweater you wore, but if you were a someone into good clothing, you'd recognize it.
He laughs and shakes his head, he can’t help but notice your curves and he looks down, trying not to stare. “I wouldn’t consider myself a fashion guy, i just know something looks nice when i see it.. and your outfit looks very nice on you."
"Yeah, sure.." You nod, standing up and grabbing both of the glasses. You take them to the sink, putting your hair up in a bun and washing them. "I'm okay now, Burrow, really. I don't know why you did what you did tonight, but thank you." The thank you comes out like a whisper, but you pray he does notice. "Come back to your party, enjoy your teammates and your girls. There's still time."
He shifts in his seat and watches you as you wash the glass, his mind is conflicted. Part of him wants to follow his teammates back to the party, the other part wants to stay with you, see how long the small talk can go before it turns into a fight again. His eyes watch you as his breathing starts to pick up a bit. When you thank him, he realizes you don’t want to talk about the fight or why he did what he did at all.
He shakes his head and stands up. “I guess I better get going then."
"Yeah.. of course." You flash him a shy smile, and the awkward silence sets in again.
He notices your smile and smiles back, not knowing how to express himself right now, although he doesn’t know how to leave either. He just awkwardly stands there, staring at you, his eyes are locked on yours, he can’t help but notice how beautiful they are. The two of you lost in your own thoughts, the silence filled with tension. Then he speaks “Can i ask something before I go?”
"Yes."
“Why'd you wear that jersey? You knew it would piss me off, so why’d you wear it?”
You sigh, you had already explained that, but Joe seemed so drunk you thought maybe he had forgotten. "I told you, I was cold and I had forgotten my hoodie." you point to the couch, where the green hoodie rested on. "I knew it would piss you off, and trust me when I say I wasn't going for that today, but it happened. I'm sorry for it, you can have it back now." You say, taking the jersey off for the second time that night, except this time you don't throw it on his face. Instead, you just gently hand it to him, like a peace offering.
He takes it, looking down at it in his hands, then he looks back up at you. He sighs and is suddenly filled with mixed feelings, anger, sadness, his emotions feel overwhelming. He doesn’t want to yell and argue with you again, but he also doesn’t want to leave. He can’t stop looking at you and your eyes, he can’t help but love how pretty they are. "Can I please keep this? Please..?" he whispers.
"Why are you asking me that? It's yours, it has your name on it." You say matter-of-factly, fidgeting with your hands, something you do when you're nervous.
You can tell he’s trying really hard not to smile at you, his voice is soft when he says “Yeah… but it’s got your sweat on it… your smell… I want something to remind me of you… even though, you know… we always seem to get each other mad.”
You don't understand, after all, you see each other every single day. The best "something to remind me of you" he could ever ask for was standing right in front of him everyday.
You furrow your eyebrows. Years of fighting, screaming and pissing each other off leading to this moment was something you couldn't wrap your mind around. "Do I need to remind you we hate each other? Until this morning, you'd get me suspended from LSU if you could."
He laughs, and you’ve never seen him in such a vulnerable and soft state. "We both know I don’t wanna get you suspended from LSU, I mean, come on.. just look at you.” he stares at you, you see his eyes roaming your body like he always does, but there’s a different look about them. "You deserve this scholarship more than I do, you've always have."
"Yeah.." You scoff, not believing a word, looking at the jersey on his hands and then at his eyes. His big, blue eyes that you got lost in countless times before.
He smiles at you, realizing the snarkiness he just heard. He doesn’t mind the teasing, in fact, he kinda likes it. He stares at you for a minute, then he looks back down at the jersey “I like how it fits tight on you.” he says without realizing it.
"Tight? You're big as hell, it looks huge on me." You laugh, remembering how the jersey looked on you when you put it on earlier today.
He laughs silently to himself, a big smirk appears on his face. He looks at your body, then smiles. “You're just too small, but I do like how it fits on you."
You feel goosebumps throughout your entire body and your cheeks heat up. You curse yourself mentally for letting it all show so easily.
He's still staring at you, but doesn’t realize just how much he’s making you blush. He continues to speak in a low voice "I can see your belly button when you dance for us on the field.." He pauses, but decides to go on, and it's like you can hear the engines turning in his head. "I can see your bra strap when you go so high in the sky I feel my hands covered in cold sweat in fear that you'll fall and I won't be there to catch you. I can see your collarbones when you get so close to me when we're fighting that I wish I would just lean in and shut you the fuck up. I can see how you blush when I sweep you off your feet and leave you speechless, like i'm doing now." He steps closer. "I can see all of you. Matter of fact, Y/N, I think you're all I have ever wanted to see." He states, like it's a fact, like he has always known that. You feel your eyes starting to water and you feel stupid. "Every inch of you looks amazing in that jersey, it fits you like nothing else i’ve ever seen."
You sigh, it's almost like you can feel your skin being touched by him just by the way he’s looking at you. You feel like a forest fire, and his voice tone doesn't help. "Stop.."
His voice is so low when he talks, you want him to keep speaking. You want to hear his voice go on and on, to get you worked up, but also to lull you into the most peaceful sleep you've had in years. He keeps staring at you as he speaks “Just look at your shoulders, the fabric wraps all around them so perfectly, they’re such beautiful curves, just like the rest of you. Just look at you.. Jesus." He sighs.
You squirm under his gaze, but in a split second you're reminded of everything that happened before this moment. Before being here, in your small dorm, talking to the man you earlier thought to be the meanest person you knew. "I won't fall for it. I'm not the girls you get after winning games."
He chuckles and looks away, clearing this throat before going on "Those girls are just something to make me feel good, they don’t even mean anything to me. But you.. even when you make me angry, I want nothing but to feel you in my arms. You make me feel so good, even when you piss me off.”
"You don't mean that." You mutter, trying to stay calm. You pick the skin on your arms while staring at him.
His eyes shift back to yours when you speak, he sighs and you can tell for a minute he’s conflicted on what to say. "I know you don’t believe I mean all those words, but honestly, I mean every word. You are the only girl who's ever made me feel something, even if we’re arguing, that means we at least have some emotion we want to put towards each other. I'd rather have you making me mad than have someone making me feel nothing at all."
A single tear slides down your cheek. "You're drunk, that's what it is. You're drunk and this.." You point to yourself, and then to him, "..must be a prank."
“I know that’s all we’ve known for years, but maybe the reason you make me so mad is because I have feelings for you. You are the only girl I have ever wanted to talk to like this. You're the only girl that makes me feel this way. I never want to stop talking to you, I just want to tell you how beautiful you are, even when you make me mad, or when you push me so far it makes me want to push you towards the wall and kiss you."
You stare at him like everything you've ever known has finally made sense. A few more tears drip from your eyes and you sigh. "You promise?" it comes out in a whisper.
He smiles and you can tell it's not a fake drunk smile. This is the smile he flashes at someone when he's letting down his guard and being completely honest and vulnerable. "I promise. I don't want anyone else, I want you. I wanna be the guy who makes you happy like no one else could. I want you to be there when I get into the NFL and I want to be able to look for you on every game, waving at you when I see you're wearing my jersey because you finally want to, because it means something."
You look up, melting over his voice, your eyes meeting his like never before. His eye color seemed different now, a more vivid blue. His eyes seemed more relaxed, a nice contrast to the ones full of rage that always came with a furrowed brow. "I want you, too." You whisper.
He smiles, a real and sweet smile. This time when his eyes roam your body, you feel like he isn't looking at you in a nasty way like always, he's just looking at you because he thinks he's the luckiest boy in the world.
You smile, "Do I need to call you some names to have you kissing me now?" It makes him laugh, and your eyes lock on his. There isn't any words, just feelings, and you can see it in him when the realization sets in that you want him too.
You get on your tip toes as Joe pulls you towards him, your lips finally touching each other. Your belly feels as if you just rode a rollercoaster, as if the LSU football team had won, as if there was fireworks inside of you like there's in the sky on the fourth of July. But instead it was all him, the same boy that you once hated so much, doing all of this to you without even trying.
Immersed in your thoughts, you didn't notice when someone opened the door and came in, what gave it away was the smell, and you wondered if it would ever change.
"Joseph..?" you froze, again, but still managed to turn around on the armchair, feet now touching the ground.
His eyes meet yours for the first time in.. well, years, since that fateful night. He looked.. the same. Although his hair was shorter now and he looked bigger than ever, his face was the same. The same mesmerizing ocean blue eyes, pointy nose, and rosy cheeks, which you always found funny, because it looked like he had blush on. He wore a threadbare white shirt, shorts, and a tennis shoe, but they weren't the same as years ago, and you thought to yourself how an outfit of his now would cost probably more than your monthly earnings. He also wore a USA flag headband, which you had seen earlier laying on the wood table for everyone to get one. You thought it looked.. funny.
"Y/N." He nods. It felt like forever since your name had left his lips for the last time.
"Sorry, I-" You start, getting up from the chair as you wrote a full apology in your head for being in a private part of his home. "I thought nobody would need the room, I'll leave now."
"Nobody does." He takes a sip of his drink, his hands looking huge as he holds the red cup. "Dave told me you came with him and Emily, had to see it for myself."
He says, getting closer and finally leaning onto the window, arms resting just above it. Another sip, and you find yourself sitting again.
"How'd you know I was here?" You furrow your eyebrows, not understanding a thing. His eyes don't wander from the view. You're stiff, and you think you've probably never felt so nervous.
"You always are."
If you thought your eyebrows couldn't furrow any more, you were wrong. As soon as the words fell from his lips, you were in complete shock. Does that mean he knew that, all this time, you spent the parties in his attic, alone, dying to go home? That he knew you slept here, not once, not twice, but several times before?
"What?" Is all you manage to say, embarrassment taking over you.
"I mean, when I threw parties in high school you were always here. I know you don't like parties but you would always come because of Emily, and somehow your nights always ended here."
Your eyes widened, and you swore that if your mom could see you now, she would say something along the lines of You look like you've seen a ghost.
You kind of felt like you had.
"I'm surprised you like the place, it's kinda small." He finally shifts, taking his arms off the window and setting his now empty cup on the small wood piece that rested under the window. You blush, after all this time.
When you woke up in the morning, Joe was no longer there. You didn't panic, just thought of it as typical him. Getting up from the bed, you saw Emily on her chair, watching something on her computer.
"Morning, sleeping beauty." she says as she hears you yawn.
"Morning, Ems." You smile, sitting up straight. "D'you have a good night?"
"Obviously, duh. Dave's a gentleman." she states, bragging, and you laugh. "He also told me you and Joe left together last night.. what was that about?"
You sigh, flashes from the night before coming back to haunt you. "We.. uh.." you start, but words can't really explain what went down in this apartment yesterday. "We kissed, and had sex.. and, uh.. he might've said he likes me.." you whisper, like it was a crime.
"WHAT?!" Emily jumps from the chair, startled. "Y/N.. Oh my God.." she gets closer to you, getting on her knees in front of you. "How was that? And, most importantly, how's that gonna work now?" she states, as if something had changed overnight.
"What do you mean?" you furrow your eyebrows, confused.
"Well, you know he's been drafted to the NFL, don't you?" she says as if it was something everyone knew, incluiding you.
You felt your heart sink.
So it was a prank, after all. The worst one he could ever pull on you.
He left, and he wasn't coming back.
You knew he meant every word he had said last night, but he also had really left. Joe had confessed his love to you the night before just to leave in the morning, leaving you mercilessly stranded.
You don't say anything, because how could you find the words to? Emily immediately understands and hugs you, but the only embrace you could possibly want at the time was miles away now.
You were surprised at his ability to pretend like nothing had happened, like the last few years hadn't been torture to you, wondering where did it go wrong. Years of blaming yourself, of recalling the night over and over and-
"No need to be ashamed, Y/N." he chuckles, the sound of it filling the quiet room.
"I'm not ashamed." you lie. Letting him see through you was the last thing you needed today. "Just thought nobody knew."
"Well, if it helps, I'm the only one who does." he finally sits on the ground, back glued to the wall where the window was. A beat, and then he was back with the personal questionnaire. "How are you?"
"I should be the one asking that question. Huge team, getting all the girls, abnormal paycheck.. Superbowl." your words dripping with disgust as you stare out the window, hoping for something, anything, anyone, a divine intervention to get you out of there.
"I don't really get that many girls," he says as he stares at you. One of the things about him that bothered you so much was his courage. You could never, ever, not a million years, bring yourself to stare at him the way he'd do to you. It was intimidating, raw, and worst of all, familiar. He'd always do this when the two of you fought in high school, that's how he'd always win the arguments, not by words, by having the courage to look you in the face and leaving you feeling vulnerable and naked under his gaze. That's also the same way he stared at you that night, after saying all those nice words that made you melt under his touch.
"Mhm.." You nod, not knowing what to say.
"Aren't you going to answer me?" he questions, again.
"I'm fine, finishing my doctorate now."
You don't know why you told him that, but it felt right.
He lets out a breath, "Fuck, Y/N.. That's huge." he congratulates you, and although he couldn't see it due to the poor lighting, it makes you blush. You had never seen it as that big of a deal, it was just the thirst for knowledge you always had, but it was nice knowing someone Joe thought about it as something nice.
"Thank you"
"Thank you coming today," he finally says, awkwardly, as he gets up, grabbing his cup as he does so. "tell your folks I said hi."
"Will do."
He opens the door and gets lost in the crowd, leaving quietly and sneakily like he did that night, and you let out a breath you didn't even realize you were holding.

Lingerie
Request - Y/N surprises Joe with her new lingerie
Warnings - Smut (intercourse, fingering)
A/N - I wanted to try something with this fic! I hope u enjoy!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As the sun began its descent, casting a warm, golden glow over the city, Y/N found herself standing in the middle of their bedroom, admiring the lingerie she had carefully selected for this special occasion. It had been a last-minute idea, inspired by a whim and a fleeting moment of courage, but she couldn't help but feel excited about the prospect of surprising Joe with it after his practice game. The delicate lace of the bra and panties contrasted beautifully with her own smooth, pale skin, making her feel feminine and desirable in a way that she hadn't in a long time.
She heard the front door open and close, followed by the sound of his footsteps trudging up the stairs. Her heart raced as she nervously adjusted the lace of her bra, wondering how he would react to seeing her like this. There was a brief moment of silence before he walked into the room, his expression one of surprise and disbelief.
"Y/N?" he breathed, his eyes roaming over her body. "You look... incredible."
The warmth that spread through her at his words was indescribable. She felt a shiver run down her spine as he took a step closer, taking in the details of the lingerie she'd chosen. The way his gaze lingered on her breasts, then traveled lower, lower still... She couldn't help but feel a sudden rush of desire.
"Joe...," she breathed, her voice catching in her throat. He reached out and gently cupped her cheek, brushing his thumb across her lips. She could feel the heat emanating from his touch, and it only served to intensify the sensations coursing through her body.
He leaned in closer, his lips brushing against hers in a tentative kiss. The contact sent a jolt of electricity through her, and she moaned softly into his mouth. His hands moved to her hips, pulling her against him, their bodies flush against each other. The lingerie felt like nothing more than a thin veil between them, amplifying every touch, every breath.
They stumbled backward, falling onto the bed, their kisses growing more urgent, more desperate. Y/N felt his fingers dipping beneath the lacy fabric of her panties, teasing and exploring her, driving her wild. She arched her back, meeting his touch with a needy whimper. He groaned, his hand sliding lower, spreading her wetness across his fingers. She could feel him growing harder against her, and she knew they were both so close.
With one swift movement, he rolled her onto her stomach, pressing his body against her back. His fingers continued their relentless rhythm, finding her sensitive entrance and driving her higher and higher. Her moans filled the room, mingling with the sounds of his ragged breathing. And then he thrust his fingers deeper, curling them just right, and she exploded around him, her body shuddering with release.
He waited a moment, letting her catch her breath before moving to kneel between her spread legs. With one swift motion, he pushed the lacy panties aside and she felt the cool air brush against her sensitive flesh. He stroked her gently with his fingers, teasing her once again, until she was trembling with need. And then he lowered his head, taking her into his mouth, sucking and licking until she could feel the familiar tightness building within her once again.
Her nails dug into the sheets, her hips arching off the bed as she felt his tongue circle her clit, his fingers curling deeper inside her. She moaned his name, the sound filling the room and echoing through her body. He increased the pressure, his tongue flicking in time with his fingers, and she felt herself spiraling out of control.
Joe could feel her walls begin to tighten, her body tense in anticipation, and he knew she was close. He increased the pace, his lips and fingers working in perfect harmony, as he felt her release, felt her body shudder with pleasure beneath his touch. He continued to lick and stroke her, relentless in his pursuit of bringing her back to the edge, and then over.
"Joe...," she gasped, her voice raw with need. He looked up at her, their eyes locked, and she could see the desire burning in his gaze. He reached down, positioning himself at her entrance, and slowly, carefully, guided himself inside her.
She arched her back, crying out at the exquisite fullness, the way he felt so deep and right. He groaned, his eyes closing for a moment as he began to move, thrusting gently at first, his pace growing steadier, faster. The sensation of being joined with him was overwhelming, sending shards of pleasure through her body.
Her nails dug into his shoulders, her hips lifting to meet each of his thrusts. He kissed her neck, sucking gently, and she felt a wave of heat wash over her. She could feel herself building toward another peak, and as she grew closer, he picked up the pace, his movements becoming more urgent.
The room spun around her, a blur of sensation as their bodies moved together in perfect harmony. She could feel the tension building inside her, coiling tighter and tighter, and then, with a cry that seemed to come from deep within her, she was overtaken by another powerful orgasm. Her body convulsed around him, and he followed her over the edge, his cries mingling with hers as they both found release.
They collapsed onto the bed together, their breaths coming in ragged gasps. Y/N felt the weight of his body pressing her into the mattress, and it was a feeling she never wanted to leave. She ran her fingers through his hair, marveling at the way it felt between her fingers. "I love you, Joe," she whispered, her heart swelling with the words. "I love you so much."
He turned his head, pressing a kiss to her palm. "I love you too, Y/N. Forever." She smiled, feeling the warmth of his breath against her skin. As they lay there together, their hearts slowing, their breathing evening out, she couldn't help but feel a sense of peace wash over her. She knew, in that moment, that she was exactly where she was meant to be.

You sit nervously, biting your lip, waiting for the doorbell to ring. Joe is away at training; you encouraged him to go and give you some space to collect your thoughts, but right now, you could use his strength. You stand up and start pacing, unsure how to bring it up. You told your father to come over for the weekend to catch up and only explained briefly in the conversation. You figured it would be easier to tell your father first, plus you wanted to speak to him about your mother. Yeah, you decided to lay it all all in one go. The sound of your doorbell snaps you back. It's now or never. This is your first step towards freedom from Jackson. You make your way to the door and swing it open, greeted by your giant of a father. He scoops you up and squeezes you.
"You never invite me over. Am I going to be a grandfather?" He jokes, putting you down. Your heart cracks a bit more at the thought of telling him you can't have children.
"Where's Joe? Am I going to have a little footballer grandson who plays for the Bills? Me and your brother already-Sweetie, hey hey, why are you crying?" Your father calms himself, taking your hand in his. You try to wipe your tears, but they flow endlessly. Your father follows you to the living room, where you try to gather your thoughts, but the tears won't stop. You're hyperventilating, and your father is quick to be by your side, holding you.
"Did Joe do something to you? Where is he?" Your father is quick to his feet, and you grab his hand.
"Joe is fine. It's nothing with him. It's-" You touch your throat, unable to say his name. Your father sits down and gently holds your hand.
"Talk to me, sweetheart. What's going on?"
"Mom lives out here. I ran into her, " you whisper, deciding to take the lesser blow for now. Your father sighs and rubs his head.
"I know."
Your head shoots up at your father's confession.
"What do you mean?"
"Your mother contacted me a few months ago. I knew she lived here but didn't know you ran into her."
"Did she ask about me?"
"She did. She said she was so proud of you. She has been watching you from the start of your career."
"She has two other daughters now. She's a terrible person, and I don't want her in my life." You stand up, wipe your face, and begin pacing. Your father sits with his hands clasped together, staring at the floor.
"Dad, why aren't you saying anything? Don't tell me you forgave her! " you shout.
"We have talked over things, and we are moving forward."
"What does that even mean? You forgive her. Now, you guys will hold hands and run off together?"
Your dad's silence is loud. You're shocked at this revelation and unable to process a thing.
"You're together again?"
"We're talking. She's divorcing her husband and-"
"She abandoned you! She left us like we were nothing!" You shout, throwing your hands up.
"She was my first love. If you had a chance to be with your first love again, wouldn't you?" Your father asks calmly. You chuckle darkly, throwing your head back.
"My first love has ruined my life for the last ten years." You storm out of the room just as Joe enters the living room. He sets his bag down and chases after you.
"Honey-"
"How can he talk to my mother right now? What she did to us is unforgivable!" You scream and cry. Joe embraces you, trying to calm you down. There's a knock at the door, and you pull away from Joe, allowing your father to enter.
"I have nothing to say to you right now. Joe will show you to the guest room. Thank you." You walk away, slamming the bathroom door behind you. Your father follows Joe out of the room and back downstairs.
"I thought I knew my daughter pretty well. Who is her ex?" Your father asks Joe. Joe lifts your father's bags and sighs. It isn't his place to tell your father everything about Jackson.
"It's up to her to tell you, sir," Joe replies respectfully. Your dad nods his head.
"Was it someone famous? Can you at least tell me that?"
Joe looks over to the steps where you're standing now. You're upset about your mother, but you have to tell your dad.
"Jackson. After Karen moved me to LA for my career, I started seeing Jackson shortly after." You whisper. Your father turns around to face you. You do your best to read his face, but he reveals many different facial expressions in those few seconds.
"I'm sorry, daddy." You whisper. Your father is in front of you, holding you in his arms as you break down.
"What are you sorry about? It's me, I'm the fool." Your dad walks you to the sofa, where you sit down and prepare yourself to tell your father everything. Joe gives the two of you space and decides to go take a shower.
"I started dating him after I turned 18. He was everything to me. It didn't take long for him to show his true colors. He started being controlling, and I blamed it on being my mentor and the stress with the business. I found out that after my 19th birthday, I was pregnant, but my career had just started, so I had an abortion. I thought it was only an abortion until a few days ago; I found out Jackson paid my doctor to tie my tubes." You can't bring yourself to look at your father. Your father tried his best to process all the information silently.
"I-I'm stunned." Your dad finally replies.
"I thought I could be free of him. I did my best to hold on to hope for these last few years because of the stupid contracts, but Jackson won't stop. He won't leave me alone. I spent seven years locked in fear of Jackson; through all the mental, emotional, and physical abuse, I stayed because I thought that was my life, but finally, I'm stronger now. I'm telling you this now because I'm going public about Jackson's abuse, and I'm taking him to court. I thought it would be best to say it to you first rather than hear it on the news."
"I wish you would have told me sooner. I didn't know any of this was happening to you. I should've put two and two together. I should have been smarter. I should have known when you stopped coming to visit. He took you away from us. No, I practically gift-wrapped you to him. It's my fault for being so fucking naive. I trusted this guy and-"
"Daddy, it's not your fault. I made my decisions. I-"
"He put his fucking hands on you! I sent you to LA, and I knew the culture of Hollywood. I read stories about things like this, but I never….I never thought for once you could fall victim. It's my fault. You suffered all this time, and it's my fault. I wondered why Jackson was contacting me these last few months. I'm a fool. He knew…Oh god."
"Daddy, it wasn't-"
"The business was failing. I was in debt and didn't want to ask you for money. Jackson offered, and I accepted it. He owns half the business now."
Your breath is caught in your throat. You're unable to move from your sitting position as your father starts rambling and pacing. This is why you never went public. This right here. Jackson threatened your family over and over and over again. He promised he would ruin their lives if you left him, and now it's started. Jackson got to your father before you could. It's all your fault. You stopped being close to your family. You lost all contact with them all those years. You just started to build things up again, but Jackson was one step ahead of you as always.
"Dad…I-"
"I'm so sorry. What kind of fucking father lets his 17-year-old daughter move to Hollywood alone and for the last ten years be-"
"Dad! I'll handle it so-"
"No. I'll handle it." Your father cuts you off.
"Mom is working for Jackson. Her firm is representing him." You finally say. Your father freezes up. This time, you make eye contact with him.
"She-She wouldn't do that if you tell her he-"
"They met me together. She knows what is happening, and she chose her side."
"She only knows his side because he is her client. Honey, if we tell her she will-"
"What? Protect me? She hasn't done that since the day I was born."
Your father shakes his head at all this news. You don't even know where to start. Jackson owns part of your father's business. Your father built his construction business from the bottom up, and now, with Jackson involved, this will only further go to Hell for you.
"I'm sorry. This is my fault for being gullible. I can't imagine what you've been through, sweetheart, but I promise I will make it right."
"You can't dad. I have to do this alone. If you get involved, Jackson will ruin your business and-"
"The business doesn't matter. You are my daughter. I failed at protecting you before, and I won't fail again." Your father pulls you into a hug as Joe appears. You break apart and let your father settle in his room while you and Joe talk in the kitchen. You tell Joe the news your father shared with you about the company.
"I'll buy Jackson's half. Let's ask Janet and Alex to put that in the agreement." You state, holding onto Joe. Joe calls Janet, Alex, and Eliza over.
"Before we can do anything, I want to talk to Jackson. Alone."
"I don't think that is a good idea." Eliza steps in, looking at Joe for backup. Joe takes your hand.
"We have to let her make her own choices. I'm going to support her no matter what. Let her do it." Joe replies. You give him a soft smile. After a few more talk-throughs, you end the night by checking on your father. He states that he wants you to speak to your mother so that she can hear your side. You tell him that isn't an option yet. You return to your bedroom and cuddle next to your boyfriend. You both know the road ahead will be challenging, but as long as you have Joe, you know you can do it.
You sit across Jackson and take a deep breath.
"I want to buy back your half of my father's company, " you say flat out. Jackson throws his head back, laughing.
"And why would I do that?"
"Because I'm pressing charges against you, Jackson. Everything that you have done to me will be brought to light. I am giving you the chance to fix things."
"You're not going to win. Get that through your head. Come back to me, and all of this can stop. It's your word against mine. I need you to think this through. You have no proof." Jackson chuckles.
"I-"
"I will ruin your brother's life. Aaron? Is it? Your youngest brother, right? Just getting his name out in the entertainment world, right? I will have him fucking blacklisted." Jackson threatens.
"Why are you doing this to me, Jackson? What did I do to you?"
"Come back to me, and this can be over. Your father…the rest of your family. I will leave them alone. Joe included."
You bite your lip and look around the room. A few feet away, Karen is urging you to agree to the terms.
"I want to be happy." You whisper, holding back tears. Jackson reaches over and touches your hand.
"I can make you happy like I did before. I'm different. I've changed. Let me show you." Jackson rubs the back of your hand. You shake your head.
"Joe…I love him." You finally let the words come out of your mouth. You love Joe, and it's taken you forever to say the words in fear of what your future would look like with him. But you know now that your future with Joe is as bright as the stars. Jackson starts laughing.
"No. You have no idea what you're saying right now. I have given you everything I have. I have loved you from the moment we met. You promised your life to me. Marriage kids…All of that is our future."
"I can't have kids anymore! You made sure of that! I will never come back to you. My family is stronger than you think. I've told them what you've done to me and what to expect moving forward. I gave you this meeting for a chance to change your ways, but you refused. My lawyers will be in touch." You grab your purse and exit the room. Karen chases after you and grabs your wrist.
"Think about what you're doing. Jackson is giving you the chance to make things right. Go back to him and protect your family. He can and will make everyone's life worse." Karen states, shaking your shoulders. You remove her grip and stare at her.
"You're such a sad woman. You continue to live in his spotlight, not seeing the good you could do by standing by my side. Jackson only cares for himself. The quicker you learn, the faster you will live a much better life, Karen. Testify against him. Win and be out from under his shadow. I'm doing this as a courtesy. You were supposed to protect me, and you didn't. You continue to let that man get away with everything. You're just as guilty as him in my eyes…But I'm giving you the chance to make up for your mistakes." You don't break eye contact and do your best to read over Karen's facial expression. You give her shoulder a few taps and walk away. Karen turns and walks back into the room to find Jackson pacing. You go to the lobby, where you find your boyfriend in disguise, just people-watching. You walk over and bend down, scaring him.
"I said I could do this alone." You whisper, pulling down his sunglasses. Joe shrugs.
"Just in case he tried anything. I wanted you to know you're not alone."
You kiss his lips and pull him up. The both of you exit the hotel. The ride back home sends your mind racing. You're sure your father has told your brothers, but you're not ready to face them yet, so you've been ignoring their calls. At home, Eliza, Janet, and Alex wait for the update. You tell them what everyone already knows. Jackson won't let you repurchase your dad's company; he refuses to settle. You give Janet and Alex the okay to file charges in California. With things in motion, you take the time to go to LA and finish some business for a week.
You giggle as you read over the text from Joe. Everyone in the room can see how much you glow at the mention of the football player. You can't wipe the smile off your face when you get called Joe Burrow's girlfriend. You're finally free to enjoy Joe in front of the world. It was a crazy mix of reactions, but for the most part, everyone is obsessed with the both of you.
"Yeah, she is finished up for the magazine spread. We will do a quick Q&A and then wrap it up." Eliza shouts on set. You text Joe a goodbye followed by a kissy face emoji. You miss him, but with his training for the upcoming season, you had to fly out and get some photoshoots done for your upcoming movie. You sit on the white sofa as your makeup artist comes and touches you up.
"So we have a special person here to help us out with this interview." The photographer announces. Your body freezes up, and you look at Eliza with horror written on your face. Jackson. It has to be Jackson. But as your special guest appears, your horror-struck eyes become filled with admiration. Joe smiles and takes a seat on the couch. Your mouth is wide open as you stare at him in complete shock. You launch yourself onto his lap as he laughs.
"Suprise, baby," Joe whispers in your ear. You lean back, and he kisses your lips.
"What's this?" You ask as Eliza hands you cards. You read over the cards.
"GQ couples quiz," Joe replies, fixing his shirt and licking your chocolate Fenty lipgloss off his lips. You cannot wipe the smile off your face as you read over the cards.
"You guys ready?" Eliza asks. You nod eagerly and sit back, wiggling in your seat. You start by introducing yourself and Joe.
"What's my favorite color?" You ask. Joe scratches his head, laughing.
"That's easy, yellow. Not too bright, like a nice mellow yellow. Not the drink." Joe laughs, replying. You nod and ding him for the point.
"What food do I love, and what food do I hate?" You ask next. Joe laughs and leans back. He takes a moment to think, and you give him a look.
"She loves lasagna, and she hates soups. Any soup she complains, but she also hates onion, but she will tear French Onion soup up, so it's like weird." Joe sits up, staring at you. You hide behind your cards, giggling.
"French onion is just too good! Okay, what's my favorite fast food, and what is my go to order?"
"You don't even eat out like that, umm, Chick-fil-A, and she always gets the Cool Wrap with extra ranch packet, a lemonade, and fries." He replies. You clap for him and tell them to give him extra points.
"He's so attentive like I barely eat out. I think I had that when we first started dating. Speaking of, how did you ask me out?"
"This is embarrassing. When we first started talking, we would send each other songs. So, I sent her Girlfriend by Charlie Puth. She messaged me and asked, What does this mean? And I replied precisely what the song says."
"What did you respond?" A guy asks off camera. You giggle behind the cards.
"Yes. I didn't send a song back because I was so shy and too busy giggling." You reply, flipping to the next card.
"What did you do for the first date?" The guy asks. You look at Joe, letting him take the lead.
"We did ABC dates for the first 26 dates; we did something corresponding to the alphabet. So, date one was an aquarium date." Joe smiles at you, shooting you a wink.
"Who said I love you first?" You ask, reading the next card. Joe leans back, laughing.
"I did. I knew I was in love with her from the first date. Without reading the little cards next to each animal, she would start this long rant about information on them. I was fascinated and had to stand back and stare at her. Although when I first said I love you, it threw her off, and she ghosted me for weeks."
"Joseph!" You giggle playfully, shoving him. Joe whispers that he loves you, and your heart flutters. You blow him a kiss and read the next card.
"How did we meet?"
"At her cousin's wedding. I knew the groom, and they introduced us, so I owe Matty a big thank you.
"Were you a fan of hers before meeting her?" The director asks. Joe nods his head.
"I was. Who isn't a fan? After we started hanging out, I did a deep dive for sure, but haha, I was always a fan. My family members are huge fans of her, so it worked out." Joe replies, licking his lips. You hide behind your cards.
"What's my favorite movie."
"Titanic."
"Ding! What's a pet peeve you have about me."
"None. I'm too in love with you. Next question."
"There has to be one. I won't get upset." You reply, waiting for an answer.
"Hmmm. She falls asleep with the TV on. I like silence. But I would do anything to keep her happy, so I don't care." Joe states, grinning.
"What's the first thing I made you to eat?"
"Man…I think it was spaghetti or something."
"Ding. That's correct." You give your boyfriend a few claps.
"What was my favorite subject in school?"
"I think English? No history. She's a history buff!" Joe replies you give him another ding for his correction.
"What's my phone number?"
"I can't say that. Are they going to beep it out?" Joe asks. The producers give him a thumbs up, and Joe gives out your phone number.
"She doesn't know my number."
"To be fair, I don't remember anyone's number." You laugh and go to the next card.
"What is your favorite thing about me?" This time, when you ask, you stare straight into those blue orbs across from you. Joe leans forward and takes your hand.
"I love everything about you. I love that our humor is the same. I love how you protect those you love. I love the way your mind works. I love your strength. I never thought I would be able to fall more in love with you, but every day, you show me that's possible." Joe rubs the back of your hand, and you look away, holding back tears.
"Give him all the points, " you jokingly state, wiping your eyes. You toss the cards and throw yourself at your boyfriend, causing the set to laugh. After you guys wrap up on set, Joe follows you back to the hotel. You guys find yourselves in bed kissing each other endlessly. Your mouth detaches from Joe's, only to breathe in and return to his lips. Joe moans into the kiss, causing you to squeeze your thighs together involuntarily.
"Take this off," Joe whispers, pulling at your t-shirt. You sit up and toss it to the floor. Joe pulls you back on top of his lap and takes your nipple into his mouth. You look down at him with glossy eyes. Joe grips your hips tightly. You hiss as he pulls back slowly on your nipple between his teeth. Joe sucks on it gently, and you rake your fingers through his hair. While Joe is busy sucking on your nipple, you move your hand down to the waistband of his briefs, releasing his cock. Joe releases your nipple and stares up at you as you start pumping him in your hand. Joe lifts you and sheaths himself entirely in you. You both sigh while you clench around his shaft.
"Fuck baby, don't do that. I'm going to cum." Joe whispers, pulling you back down for a messy kiss.
"Missed this so so much," You pull away from the kiss and lean back as Joe starts bouncing you up and down on his cock. You lean forward so that your forehead touches his.
"Yeah, you miss this. Such a good girl." Joe groans, feeling you clench around him again. He slaps your thigh, and you giggle. You bend down and capture his lips. Joe's kisses are lazy because he is too focused on bouncing you up and down his cock chasing his release. It's only been a week of separation, but your dear boyfriend desperately wanted you. Joe groans when you pull his head back by his hair. You start leaving open mouth kisses on his neck.
"I'm cumming." Joe groans as you suck on his neck. You giggle and pull back to see your handy work. Joe sighs, holding you down as you continue to milk everything he gives you. You pick yourself up and plop down on the bed beside him. Joe rolls over and stares at you. Before you got here, Joe had spent at least 15 minutes devouring you, so it was only fair he got his ending, too. You can feel his semen dripping down your legs, which makes you giggle at the sensation.
"What?" Joe asks.
"The strike started, so I won't be promoting anything. I can give all my time to you." You whisper. Joe closes his eyes.
"Do you trust me, Joseph?"
"With my whole heart."
You close your eyes and join your boyfriend in a deep sleep. The next day, you and Joe find yourselves eating out. A few fans ask for photos and autographs which you both have no problem doing. When you return to your hotel, you and Joe take a hot shower, not missing a moment to touch each other. After the shower, you take a much-needed nap. You and Joe fly back home and bury yourself in the case you are building against Jackson. You have not spoken to your father since he shared about your mother. Your brothers have tried to reach out to you, but you're not ready for that talk.
"Can you go into more detail about the Oscar night?" Janet asks, bringing you back to the present. You ignore your oldest brother's text and place your phone on the table.
"Like what?"
"Did he assault you?… Physically?" She clarifies. You take a deep breath and nod your head.
"How long do we need to do this? I have surgery today." You state changing the subject. Janet looks at Alex.
"We can end here. Are you nervous about the surgery?"
"Yes, I want it to work out. I want to be a mother, " you reply.
Alex drives you to the hospital, where Joe meets you. He kisses your lips and tells you how brave you are then you are and that he will be waiting for you when you wake up. And just like he promised, Joe was at your side when you woke up and through recovery. Before you knew it, the season started. As always, you went to the games with his family and cheered him on. You ran into Jackson once and were surprised by the outcome.
"You win. Have your team contact mine. I'll follow whatever rules you set." Jackson stated. You stared at him in disbelief.
"First, let me buy back my father's company."
"You wanted a legit deal, have your team contact mine."
"Fine." You say, turning to walk away, but JAckson's next word surprises you.
"I'm sorry."
You can't find it in yourself to turn back and face him, but hearing those exact words you heard so many times from him seems haunting. You get the courage to turn around and face him with tears in your eyes; you take a deep breath.
"This could have all been avoided. What you have done to me, I'll never be able to forgive you, so keep your apology. Your words mean absolutely nothing to me." You state sternly. Jackson chuckles and wipes his face.
"For what it's worth, I loved you. I truly loved you."
"Well, you had a fucked up way of showing it."
"Get away from her." You hear Joe's mother shout. She quickly steps in between you. Jackson nods his head and walks away. She turns around and pulls you into a hug. You and Joe had sat down with his parents and broke the news a few weeks ago. Her actions shocked you but warmed your heart.
"Are you okay? Did he say anything to you-"
"Mrs.Burrow, I'm-"
"Mom. I told you to call me mom…if that's okay." She whispers, cupping your face to wipe the tears. You smile and nod.
"Mom, I'm okay." You sniffle, and she hugs you again. You guys make your way to the game. It has been a stressful few weeks for Joe, from your surgery to losing a few games. Joe always took it so hard and blamed himself. But you were there to comfort him always. After the team won, you guys went out to celebrate. Joe's hand never left yours through the night. You sipped your drink and leaned over.
"It's been four weeks, and I got the okay from my doctor. So-"
"Check this out." Andrei holds up his phone to Joe. Joe reads the headline, and you watch his face twist. You lean over to read it yourself, your hand moving faster than you can process as you rip the phone from Joe's hand.
"Jackson and longtime girlfriend are expecting their first child…. longtime girlfriend?"
Andrei looks at Joe, confused. You hand the phone back and storm out of the party. This is why he was so uncaring. You call Janet, and she already knows. It's a complete wrench thrown in your plan.
"We should still meet him and go over the contract. He doesn't want it to get out so-"
You hang up and lean over, feeling sick. Joe comes to comfort you. You don't know if it's the news or the drinks, but you're dizzy. Joe holds your waist and steadies you on your feet. You guys leave the celebration as paparazzi snap away, screaming questions at you. You get into the vehicle and break down. Joe pulls you into his arms. In times like this, he feels so hopeless; the only thing he can give you is comfort. You cry well into the morning, and when you wake up, you suffer from puffy eyes and sore throat.
"We can reschedule this meeting if you're not up to this today," Joe states. You ignore him and continue fixing your makeup.
"Honey-"
"Just stop! I don't need to be babied. You're suffocating me!" You shout, slamming the door in his face. You didn't mean to lash out, but you're stressed. Jackson is always steps ahead of you. After you finish getting ready, you look for Joe to apologize. You find him on the phone in the kitchen. LA is not a good place for you; you want to run back to Ohio with Joe as soon as possible. Joe hangs up the phone and turns to you with a half smile.
"I'm sorry." You whisper. Joe shrugs.
"We should get going. Janet just called and said Jackson is there already…with your mother."
The bad news keeps rolling in. You guys meet at Jackson's local law firm. Janet and Alex are already there. You look over at Jackson's "girlfriend" and roll your eyes. You know her. It's someone you trained with in the past, but she never broke out as a star. You tell the ladies you will meet them inside the conference room.
"How long have you been with Jackson?" You ask her. She rubs her belly.
"Going on eight years."
You laugh and throw your head back. Courtney stares at you, not amused.
"How much is he paying you to say that? You know he was with me-"
"You're delusional. You and Jackson had a strictly professional relationship. He told me how obsessed you were."
"Court, we trained together. You saw me and Jackson together all the time. He-"
"He said you guys messed around once, and you just wouldn't back off."
"You can't honestly think he is going to treat you better? He is not sane. He will crush you until there is nothing left."
"Look, he helped your career. Be fucking grateful. I want that, too. Unlike you, I won't let him break me because we both need something from each other." Courtney says with a smile. She bumps into you and walks into the room. Jackson makes his way over.
"Courtney. Longtime girlfriend? What is wrong with you?"
"I'm sorry. What we had was fun, but you can't honestly think you were the only one. Right?" Jackson chuckles and brushes the hair from your face. He kisses your forehead.
"You made me an enemy, and I told you it wouldn't be pretty. Listen to me next time." He says before backing off and walking away. You get yourself composed before walking into the room and spotting your mother. Janet and Alex start going over your demands. Jackson agrees with them all, but you have zoned out.
"No deal." You interrupt. Everyone stops talking and looks at you.
"What?"
"You can't buy my silence. You took my voice a long time ago, but it's back. I won't let you get away with anything you did. I'll see you in court." You stand up and walk out as Jackson calls after you. Janet and Alex will follow you out. Joe waited in the care for you. You shock him when you climb into the car.
"What happened?-"
"Please just drive." You say. Joe nods and pulls out. Once you guys reach the parking garage, climb onto his lap and kiss him. Joe tries to talk between kisses but can't catch a break. He finally lightly grabs your hair and pulls you back.
"Baby? Talk to me."
"You're right. I need to speak up so other women know what kind of person he is…I'm taking him to court." You lean back and look into his blue eyes. Joe nods his head.
"I'm proud of you."
And when Janet and Alex reach your hotel, you have everything drawn up and the story released. Your comment section on IG becomes too much that you deactivate them. Joe suffers an injury, and life seems to be slapping you both down. The world was calling you a liar, and though they didn't say it to your face, some co-stars sided with Jackson. Jackson was thriving, just as you expected, until some lip reader on TikTok posted just the evidence needed. Eliza handed you her phone.
"Do you remember that day?" She asks
"Here he is telling her, fix your face before I fix it for you. And then you see her smile." The girl states, pointing out Jackson's words. Of course, you remember that night. It was Emmy night, and Jackson had screamed at you the whole way over about the dress you wore being too revealing even though he controlled every aspect of you. He chose that dress. Another tiktoker who is known for body language analyzes the same clip.
"Look how tight he grabs her wrist when she tries to walk away. Jackson Taylor is an abusive man. Hashtag, we believe you." The guy states. You continue to look through the hashtag and see that you have gained support. People believe you.
"I have to see this through. I have to be open about everything." You whisper. Your eyes drift to Joe, who is on the phone in the kitchen. Eliza follows your gaze. Once Joe is off the phone, he finds you alone in the living room, staring at the blank TV.
"Hey."
You pat the seat next to you.
"What's up?" He asks, taking a seat.
"This is going to be a long process for me. I need the space to see this through."
"What are you saying?"
"I'm moving back to LA."
"I can come to stay with you and-"
"You need to focus on healing…and in a way, so do I."
"I don't get what you're saying?" Joe nervously chuckles.
"Joe, don't make this harder than it needs to be. I can't give you all of me because he still has it. It's not fair to you or me. I have to fight him and this alone. I need my focus to be on this."
Joe stands up abruptly, scaring you for a second.
"I have been supportive. I have been the supportive boyfriend this whole time! And you're going to leave me just like that. When I'm at my weakest?"
"Stop yelling, please. I know this is frustrating, but-"
"But nothing!"
"Joe, this is hard for me too!"
"Then fight for us too? I love you. I have shown you time and time again. After everything we've been through, you can drop us like that?"
"Joe, I can't love you like you love me. I'm broken. I told you from the start. I told you. Nothing can fix me." You cry. Eliza comes from her bedroom, shocked about all the noise.
"I'm begging you to fight for us."
"I don't have any more fights left. I'm sorry, Joe." You whisper. Joe stands still, letting the silence fill the room. It's selfish. He knows it, but if he has to be selfish to keep you near him, he will become the most selfish person on the planet. But you're walking away from him. Joe can hear you saying words, but he can't understand them. It's as if you're speaking another language. Finally, Eliza brings him back.
"She's gone. She asked me to pack up her things and have it shipped to LA. I'm sorry, Joe. I'm shocked as you."
"I have to let her go. I can't be another guy that forces her to be in a relationship." Joe whispers and walks away. Eliza finds you in the car crying. She is confused by your actions, but she trusts that the both of you will find your way back to each other.
When you return to LA, rumors spread about you and Joe breaking up. People speculate that he broke up with you for obvious reasons. You keep yourself busy with Janet and Alex. Sometimes, you find yourself asking Janet about Joe. She tells you he's doing better, which is all you wanted. The hardest part about the case was getting people to speak up against Jackson. Everyone you emailed denied any involvement, even your old manager. Finally, one day, you get a visit from your old makeup artist.
"I'll testify." She states flat out. Janet smiles and nods.
"What can you bring to the table?" Alex asks.
"I was her makeup artist for two years. I can't tell you how many bruises I was paid to cover in those two years. I confronted Jackson, and he fired me. He threatened my family….when she found out she had paid me in secret for years. I've been running some of her clinics for women who are running from DV situations. I will tell them everything." Viola squeezes your hand, and you pull her into a hug.
"You helped so many women; they don't even know it. Thank you." Viola states. You are pulled into a hug and smile. Viola leaves you with Janet.
"Why didn't you tell me about the clinics? This-"
"Because they are all under Viola's name. I didn't want to have my name attached because of Jackson." You reply.
"This is huge. With her testimony, we really have something." Janet leans over the rail, looking out at the city.
"I miss him." You say, staring at the pool.
"He misses you too," Janet replies.
"He's never going to forgive me."
"He's upset, but I'm sure he would fall on his hands and knees if you walked into his door. I have never seen little Joseph so in love."
The thought makes you smile, but you know, deep down inside, Joe deserves someone with less baggage and Less damage. Because that's what you were… damaged goods. Some other guys ruined artwork. Joe could never put back the pieces.
"Your mom is here." Eliza interrupts. You take a deep breath. You were the one who called her to visit, so it's time to face the woman who gave birth to you.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
The speakers were blaring all throughout the club— the colorful flashing lights danced across each and everyone’s skin as it circles the place.
Sitting with your legs crossed you giggled as you listened to one of your closest friend rant about a recent embarrassing moment that happened to her at her office— you are currently surrounded by the entire Cincinnati Bengals team at the VIP area of the club— the staff, crew, coaches, players, and their significant others celebrating their win at the AFC Championship not long ago.
You were sitting prettily next to a couple of WAGs wearing a copper halter neck jumpsuit that hugged your body in the right places, showcasing your curves while accentuating your height— alternating from taking a sip from your drink and nodding to what your friends were discussing, not long after, you felt a familiar warm heat land on your upper thigh.
Looking to your right, you were met with your boyfriend, Joe who was busy speaking with Sam and Tee— his eyes trained on them, however, his large hands was on your right thigh, running his hands up and down, occasionally squeezing it from time to time.
Joe was a very private person especially when it comes to his personal life. So he is not the type of guy who would do PDA and you were okay with that— it was never really your goal to flaunt your relationship with Joe out in the open— in fact, you enjoy the moments you have in private, the Joe you and only you can see.
“You should send me that video. It sounds way too good to be true.” you chucked, brushing the strands of your hair away from your face as you jokingly pointed at your friend— teasing her about the failed tiktok she attempted to do in her office that her boss caught her doing.
“If I do, you’ll have to do it with me.” She laughs.
Before you could reply back, Joe interrupted you from your conversation, “Babe, I’d like you to meet someone.” He said.
Turning to look at your boyfriend, you were met with an unfamiliar redhead.
“This is, Stacie— she is the new athletic trainer of the team.” Joe introduced her.
Getting a good look at the girl, she was pretty, Stacie was a little bit shorter than you, with red hair that was curled behind her, she was wearing a white dress, and she had a huge smile on her face that rubbed you the wrong way— you were all for women supporting women but you can smell bitches from a mile away.
It’s a talent.
It was a self defense mechanism.
You grew up in a well-off family— that only meant fake friends, fake love, fake sympathies, fake laughs— fake smiles. Growing up in such way you have learned to spot the difference from the people who genuinely enjoy your company and the people who wanted to be best friends because your dad drove a Rolls Royce.
“Hi, Stacie. I’m Y/N, nice to meet you.” you greeted her with a soft smile that funnily enough was as fake as hers.
“Do you also work for the Bengals? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you around the facility.” Stacie asked, turning her head to look at you and then at Joe.
“No, I don’t work there— I’m Joe’s girlfriend.”
And just like that her plastered smile faltered by a second— a twitch that only you managed to catch.
“Stacie has been helping me with my knee a lot.” Your boyfriend chimes in making the redhead peer up at the quarterback in awe at the acknowledgment, you could practically hear her purring.
Shaking your head off those thoughts, you took a deep breath and managed to give Stacie a real smile, “Thank you, I’m glad he’s in good hands.” I nodded at her, cause at the end of the day, she was good at her job— she wouldn’t be qualified for hire if she wasn’t. That’s all you cared about— that Joe was being taken care of, especially when it comes to his injuries.
You trusted Joe with every ounce of your being and he trusted you— there was no reason for you to nitpick on every little detail you find off from that woman. You trusted your boyfriend’s judgement, and knowing Joe, you know how hard it is for him to trust people as well— so as long as he thinks she’s cool then you’re cool.
You were rising above.
“Oh, he’s in very good hands.” Stacie giggled before running her hand up and down your boyfriend’s bicep.
Looking towards Joe, he simply chucked in response.
You could feel your eye twitch.
You were rising above— You repeated in your head as if it was some sort of mantra.
Joe was being nice. That’s it. He is a nice man.
“So, Y/N, right? Let me tell you— I have been enjoying my time as an AT for the Bengals. Joe has been doing so well and has helped me feel right at home.” She giggles again before continuing, “I’m sorry, I’m talking too much about myself. How about you? What do you do?” She asks.
What do I do?— Joe fucking Burrow that’s what.
“I’m a creative director” you sipped on your drink side eyeing Joe as he laughs with Ja’marr— still refusing to acknowledge the fact that Stacie’s hand was still on him.
“Aw, that’s cute. For who?” she raised her eyebrow, taunting you as she feigned interest.
“Vogue.”
That seems to shut her up for the meantime.
You weren’t one to brag about the achievements and blessings in your life but she was pushing your last buttons— Joe included.
“I’ll go grab a drink.” Stacie told Joe as if he cared where she was headed.
You silently watched her walk towards the bartender before making your way closer to Joe who turned towards you in time. Your boyfriend eyed you up and down before placing a kiss on the temple of your forehead.
“You look like you were having fun with Stacie, If I wasn’t mistaken it seems like you found another best friend, huh?” Joe moved closer towards you as you stoically stared at him.
“It sounds like you are mistaken cause I wasn’t having fun at all.” You said to him in a lighthearted way, almost sarcastic as you watched his eyebrows furrow in confusion.
“You’re not having fun, baby?” Joe questions circling his arms around your waist.
“I was having fun— not with her though and I don’t think we’ll be friends anytime soon.” You shrugged not bothering to explain as you laid your head on his chest.
“What do you mean?”
Rolling your eyes, you lifted your head to look back up at the quarterback, “Joe, she clearly has a thing for you, she’s been flirting at you the entire time— right in front of my face too.” you sighed.
Joe simply shook him head, “She wasn’t, babe. She was just being nice.”
“Oh, I didn’t know being nice involved caressing someone’s bicep in front of that someone’s girlfriend.” You said sarcastically as you pushed yourself off of Joe’s embrace.
“Babe, she’s a touchy person that’s it. That doesn’t mean she was flirting.” Joe runs his hand across his hair frustratedly as he stared at you. You don’t know why Joe is deciding to act stupid— it was either he was playing stupid or he was just stupid and you hoped for it to be the latter— which concluded to Joe being stupid.
You eyed your boyfriend’s innocence, yeah, let’s call it that. Chuckling, you gave Joe a look, “Joe, baby, she’s flirting— hundred percent. She looks at you as if you cured cancer and I don’t blame her. Hell, millions of people look at you that way, Joe and I’m fine with that. My problem with her is the fact that not only was she disrespecting you with her touching but she was also disrespecting me by doing so.”
“Joe, I don’t mind her liking you— I trust you and I know for a fact that you won’t do anything to destroy that trust but what I cannot take is disrespect, Joey you know that.” you finished softly, hoping your boyfriend could take a hint.
“I know that, baby— but I’m just saying she’s a friend who is being friendly that’s it.”
Joe was being stubborn and you don’t think that screaming at him in public was technically “rising above”.
Before you could reply back, Stacie nudges her way between you and Joe— the redhead now had her arms wrapped around your boyfriend’s neck, making Joe lean down to her height so that she can whisper whatever to his ear.
You were pretty sure you had steam coming out of your ears as you watched Joe let her do whatever to him. It takes time for Joe to warm up to people, it took you a year of friendship for him to be even comfortable with you touching him— platonically even.
Now watching your boyfriend have absolutely no problem letting a woman he just met touch him is hurting you.
Zach Taylor calls Stacie over to introduce her to more people, ultimately leaving you and Joe in your seats as you listened to the pumping music in the background that accompanied the ringing in your ear.
“Wow, am I third-wheeling?” you joked, trying to mask the pain and anger lingering in your voice but to no avail it shows.
“What are you talking about, baby?” Joe turns back towards you with a confused yet frustrated look on his face which was pissing you off even more.
“Don’t fucking baby me, Joseph. What the fuck was that? You just let her touch you like that it front of me? I don’t know if you’ve been tackled way too hard today but you have seem to forget that I’m your girlfriend.” You argued, silently thanking the loud music for masking your voice and the dark lights for hiding your now pissed off look.
There were fans all around the bar— thankfully they were outside the VIP lounge but that didn’t stop them from taking pictures and videos of their favorite NFL players— you didn’t need videos of you and Joe fighting in public.
“Again with this? Y/N, seriously you’re being childish— stop being so fucking jealous and for the last time she’s being friendly.” Joe grunts as he finishes his entire drink in frustration.
Childish and jealous
Childish is what your so-called friends would call you back in high school when you confronted them for using you for money. Childish is what they called you when you refused to be their friend anymore. Childish is what your boyfriend of four years calls you for after defending a bitch that was flirting with him.
And jealous?
Bitch please. You were never jealous. Not once were you jealous of anyone in your life. You were the only child in a wealthy family— you had loving parents who spoiled you, you went to the best schools, had the best clothes, you have the best job that people will kill for, you have real friends that cared about you, as much as Joe was pissing you off— he was the best boyfriend.
You weren’t jealous of her, she was jealous of you.
You love Joe with all your being but if he even thinks about cheating on you with her or anyone in that matter— then they can have him.
Yes, he’s the Joe Burrow. The number one overall draft pick, the star player and quarterback of Cincinnati Bengals— but you were you, you were simply better.
And you’ve had it— having the Joe Burrow as your boyfriend has its ups and downs and you've learned to navigate through it together after years and years but this was something Joe needs to figure this out alone since he wants to act dumb.
Joe Burrow have officially crossed you in a way he hasn’t before and after this you know he’s gonna wish he hadn’t.
“Ok. I’m gonna go dance.” you said nonchalantly before leaving your boyfriend alone more confused now than ever as he watches you leave with the a few WAGs to the dance floor which was filled with people.
“Girl, are you ok? That Stacie was flirting with Joe so hard. Did you talk to him?”
“What did Joe say?”
“I swear to God if she makes a move on my man next — she’s gonna get fired.”
“Did you you two fight?”
All the questions being thrown you as you all danced in your own circle. You gave them a brief rundown of what happened they stared at you shocked.
“So? What are you gonna do?” One of them asked.
“Absolutely nothing.” You smiled as you moved your hips around to the beat.
“What?!” A collective response was met with a smirk on your face.
“He’s gonna figure it out all on his own— as of now, I don’t give a fuck.”
As you took on if the girls’ hands, dancing together to Reminder by The Weeknd which was ironically perfect for your situation— you felt heat from the side of your head, you didn’t need to turn around to know that Joe was staring at you— you wanted him to.
“Y/N, Joe is undressing you with his eyes.” one of your friends says nodding towards Joe.
You simply gave her a grin, “I’m hot. Who wouldn’t, honestly?”
“Miss Stacie looks like a kicked puppy and Joe is sat far away from her— seems like your plan is working.”
Of course it is.
You knew that without you next to Joe that Stacie would make her move— that gave your boyfriend all the time in the world to realize that you were right all along.
You feigned innocence, still dancing and singing to the song as one of your friends started to film you and the others.
“Ever time you try to forget who I am, I’ll be right there to remind you again— you know me~” you sang to the camera.
As you continued to dance, Joe couldn’t help but stare at you— a cloud of emotion lingering in him. He was very much in love with you and how good you are at moving your hips, he was guilty for calling childish and arguing with you, he was angry at himself for not believing you, he was also thoroughly furious at Stacie.
As soon as you left to dance, after replying to him unemotionally that scared that absolute shit out of him— Stacie immediately latched onto his side, giggling over something she found amusing that Joe seems to find himself not caring.
“Joe you look really good in this.” She says leaning towards him as she twirled her finger around his chest which ultimately rang red alarms all over Joe’s head— taunting him almost.
“Thanks” Joe says clearly uncomfortable as he politely moved her away from him but to his surprise she moved again towards him again, her mouth now on his ears as she whispered, “Do you wanna go somewhere more quiet, Joey?”
That was it for Joe.
He pushed her off him and quickly stood up— and glared at the redhead, the same redhead he defended to his girlfriend who was convinced she was disrespectful for flirting with him— and she was right.
Y/N is always right and Joe hated himself for not believing his girlfriend of four years.
“Stacie, I have a girlfriend who is not far from here and overall, you technically work for me, so this is unprofessional.” Joe said firmly to the redhead who just stared at him like she didn’t care.
Maybe because she didn’t.
“So? That’s why I asked you if we could go somewhere quiet. No one has to know.” She smirked.
And just like that he lost all the respect he has for her.
“I love my girlfriend and you both disrespected me and her. I’ll be talking with Zach in the morning about this— this is against a lot of the companies rules. I’ll also request for Zach to assign me a different AT— goodbye.” He turned his back towards her and sat himself in between Tee, Sam and Ja’marr who laughed at him.
“Took you long enough.” Ja’marr shook his head looking at him.
“What? How did you know?” The quarterback asks his friends who looked at him as if he was stupid.
He was.
“Everyone could see her flirting with you, man. It was painfully obvious— Zach already said he’s gonna talk to Stacie tomorrow. Don’t think she’ll have a job in the morning.” Ja’marr explained before chugging his drink down.
“And you didn’t bother telling me?” Joe asked exasperated, disbelief in his face as he stared at his friends.
“First of all, you’re a grown man— you should have figured out yourself a long time ago and secondly, your girlfriend told us not to do anything and according to her ‘to let you figure it out’” Tee explained doing air quotes with his fingers.
“She told you?”
“Yeah, we threatened to beat you up when we saw Stacie on you but your girl had other plans.”
Joe remained stunned thoughts circling his head as he watched you grind you hips against the other girls.
“Stop drooling and apologize to her, man.” Sam snapped Joe out of his viewing experience.
Without a second thought Joe’s long legs took him right behind you in just a few strides.
You didn’t need to see who was behind you to know that Joe was towering over you— a familiar heat draws you to him like magnetic, that and your friends gave you cheeky grins and winks before dispersing across the club.
However, you kept your back towards him, refusing acknowledge his presence. Knowing Joe, you knew that he was gonna take you somewhere private and quiet to talk— away from people seeing but to your surprise, Joe wraps his arms around you making you stiffen up before relaxing in his hold.
Joe was dancing behind you.
Good Lord— your handsomely hot boyfriend’s 6’4 stature was grinding onto you from behind.
What in the literal fuck.
“Joe wha– what are you doing?” You managed to choke out as you fought a moan coming out of your mouth as you felt his now hard length grind on your ass.
“Do you feel that? Huh, baby? That’s what you do to me, Y/N.” Joe breathes out into your hair.
“I know but why here? Let’s go somewhere els–” you rushed not wanting your boyfriend to feel obligated to do such things despite his discomfort in public display of affection.
“No. Baby I want to. You’re right, you’re right, you’re right. I’m so sorry, baby. You’re right about everything and I realize that now— you don’t have to worry about her anymore, I’ve dealt with it, my love.”
Turning around to face Joe, you see the sincerity, the vulnerability, the guilt, and anger in his eyes.
You knew he meant every word.
“I was never worried about her. I was worried about you.” You simply answered him, giving him a tight lipped smile, making him lean his forehead onto yours— determined more now than ever to see your real smile.
“I’m sorry for not believing you, I’m sorry for arguing with you and calling you such things, I’m sorry for making you think that I didn’t care— I do, baby. I love you so much.” Joe just kept on going, hoping to see your bright smile back up at him again.
“It hurt you know. It took me years to get you to be comfortable with me— and that’s only for our friendship but then watching you be so comfortable with her in such a short amount of time— it hurt.” you confessed, fiddling with your fingers as you watch the pain fill Joe’s face in the realization.
“I didn’t mean to make you feel that way. I’m sorry— but did you know why I was so uncomfortable with you touching me when we first started hanging out? It was because I was crushing on you hard, Y/N. I new it was you the moment we became friends and every time you hugged me, touched me, kissed me, it felt like I would go insane— I still do.”
Joe caresses your arms as he explains, slowly placing them around his neck as he swayed the two of you slowly— the two of you in your little corner of the club, the dancing bodies of strangers now became nothing but the background.
It was just you and Joe.
“But you know what I realized? Fuck it. I’m sorry it took me four years but fuck it. Who cares if they see us dancing in public? Who cares if videos of us touching each other reaches the internet? Everyone knows we’re dating— who cares? They should be worried about what we do in private.” Joe rants to himself mostly before whispering the last part in your ear— his soft lips kissing your earlobe before making its way down to your neck.
Joe licks and sucks onto the most sensitive part of your neck— marking you for the world to see, knowing very well the amount of fans and paparazzi were waiting for them outside.
“Let me take you home, Y/N. So that everyone will know your mine if they don’t already— I want all of them to know, the fans, the media, that bitch Stacie.” Joe continues before placing a wet kiss on your mouth, your tongues both fighting for dominance, teeth clashing as your lips gets sucked between his— Joe’s hands caressing every part of your body.
“I love you, please let me show you how much.” Joe practically begs making your squeeze your legs together even more.
“Take me home then.” you challenged a devilish smile forming on your face.
And before you know it, Joe was dragging you out of the club not even bothering to say goodbye to everyone— once you and Joe reached the outside, you were greeted by cameras taking pictures of you and Joe— your boyfriend keeps you locked in between his arms as you two navigated towards his car, heading home for the next party to begin.
You were right about one thing today: That Stacie was a two-faced bitch.
However, Joe was right about two things today: One, is the paparazzi did in fact wrote articles about the fresh hickeys on your neck as you and Joe raced out of the club disheveled, ultimately causing a stir in the media— and two, he did in fact love you very very very much and he showed you in a lot of different ways.

Tumblr media
Whit a groan you drop the last photo albums on the living room table before stretching once and then dropping onto the sofa between all the cozy cushions and taking a deep breath.
You've spent the last half hour looking through all the photo albums from your childhood to look at them with Joe.
Today it's been pouring with rain for half the day, so your planned walk has fallen through and you've switched to plan B. Looking at old photo albums together.
With a not exactly small snack board in his hand, Joe joins you in the living room and takes a bemused look at the ten or so photo albums your parents have made for you.
"When you said you had a few photo albums, I didn't think there would be so many," Joe says as he squeezes the snack board with various sweets onto the table between the photo albums and then drops onto the sofa next to you.
"My parents took an incredible number of photos of me. And I think they go from when I was born until I was about ten, so until I didn't want to be photographed anymore," you start to explain to him as you lean forward a little and scan the labeled photo albums for the first album.
"That's really sweet. So I'm about to see lots of photos of you as a child," mumbles Joe enthusiastically after shoving a handful of Skittles into his mouth.
"I hope there aren't any embarrassing photos in there" you laugh slightly insecurely before reaching for the photo album with the big 1 on it.
With a smile on your lips, you snuggle into Joe's open arms before opening the photo album and the first thing you see is a page full of pictures of you and your parents in hospital.
"Oh my god. You were such a tiny baby, but so cute!" Joe starts to gush, while a big grin starts to creep onto your lips and you begin to silently thank your parents for taking all those countless photos of you and now you can show them to your boyfriend.

                                ˚.*ೃ
Countless "How sweet you were!" and "oh god how cute" sentences later, it has already started to dawn while you have only just reached the fourth photo album.
"And here are my absolute favorite pictures," you babble happily as you flip to the next page and various photos of you, your parents and your siblings appear on the double page of the album.
In one of the photos, your father is proposing to your mother, while your sisters, brother and you are each holding a small bouquet of carnations - your mother's favorite flowers.
In another photo, you can see your mother crying and hugging your father, while you and your siblings are beaming with joy.
In another, there is a family photo taken directly after the proposal, while your whole family looks radiantly into the camera and one of the most beautiful moments of your family was captured in this picture.
"This is by far the cutest thing I've seen today" mumbled Joe as he looked closer at the pictures, his eyes lingering a little longer on the little four-year-old y/n.
"You've said that about every other photo today" you teased, giggling, to which Joe rolled his eyes with a grin.
"I just can't help it, okay? You were such a sweet kid and this captured memory warms my heart."
You slowly close the photo album, which you place next to you on the sofa, before sitting down on Joe's lap and wrapping your arms around his neck.
Joe's hands slowly wander down to your hips, where they find their place and he looks at you.
"You really are the sweetest boyfriend, Joey," you say, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek.
"That's my job," he assures you, smiling as he gently strokes your hipbone with his thumbs.
"Being a sweet boyfriend?"
"Yes."
"Well, in that case, my sweet friend, I'm hungry," you say jokingly.
"Well, if that's the case," he replies with a grin as he stands up and lifts you up so that he can carry you over to the adjoining kitchen, where he sets you down on the worktop and then grabs a pan.
"Then it's time for my famous Joe Pancakes," he mumbles more to himself as he starts to pick out all the ingredients he needs for his famous blueberry pancakes.
Excited and with a smile on your lips, you watch your boyfriend as he concentrates on preparing the batter and then starts making the pancakes in the pan.
Barely fifteen minutes later, you find yourself back on the sofa next to Joe with a plate full of blueberry pancakes.
And while you enjoy your pancakes, Joe flicks through the many photos of your parents' beach wedding.
Again, there are various photos of the whole family at a shoot, pictures of you and your siblings being the flower children and then a picture of you and your siblings walking hand in hand in a row to the front of your parents to bring them their rings.
From Joe's direction you keep hearing a soft "Aww", which with his full mouth sounds more like a "Maw", which makes you look over at him and giggle softly at your boyfriend.
"This is definitely my favorite album," says Joe as he closes the album and carefully places it on the table with the others.
"I love it too. I think I've looked at the photo album the most of all of them" you reply and immediately start to remember how you used to pull out the album every year on your parents' wedding day and look at it.
After you put the last bite of your pancake in your mouth, Joe takes the plate from you and puts his and your plate on the table before pulling you a little closer to him.
Automatically, you snuggle back into his warm arms, where you've spent the last few hours.
Joe's arms radiated such warmth and comfort that his arms had become your favorite place, making you want to just lie in Joe's arms.
"Would you ever want to like... get married and have kids someday?" Joe suddenly asked into the silence.
You slowly lift your head to get a better look at Joe.
You weren't expecting this question at all, so it took you a little by surprise, but you're not too surprised as you've often thought about starting a family with Joe and marrying him.
However, these two thoughts had always been so far away that your thoughts had been more or less just a kind of reverie, but now they suddenly became so real.
Since you didn't answer Joe's question directly, he suddenly gets a little nervous, so he starts playing with his hands and his eyes begin to wander nervously around the room.
"I've actually imagined it a few times. Mostly in bed at night when I can't sleep. Then I've imagined what it would be like to marry you and start a family with you," you admit honestly as you reach for Joe's hands and begin to gently stroke the back of his hand with your thumbs to take away his nervousness.
"Really? And how did you like this reverie?" Joe asked excitedly as his eyes widened.
"Really good. And I've come to the conclusion that there's nothing better than marrying you and starting a family with the love of my life." As you speak, you feel tears start to well up in your cheeks and a warm feeling begins to spread through your stomach.
Now, as you say these words and they begin to feel much more real, you know that these thoughts have always been the right thoughts and you really can't imagine anything better than being Mrs. Burrow and starting a family with Joe one day.
"With those words, you're already making me the happiest man alive, even though you're not even Mrs. Burrow yet," Joe breathes against your lips as he moves a little closer to you. "I can't wait to ask you to be my wife soon."
And three months after that conversation, Joe actually asked you to be his wife in the middle of the beach, at the same spot where your parents got married.

Snow On The Beach - Joe Burrow
Tumblr media
Summary: After the past few rough months for the Cincinnati Bengals Quarterback, you decide to plan a one night get-away trip away from the city of Cincinnati is the best way to spend your boyfriend’s 27th birthday… but how good of an idea was it to plan a one night get-away trip to the house by the beach during Ohio’s Snow Season?!
Genre: Fluff and Angst
Tumblr media
The past few months have been pretty rough for the Cincinnati Quarterback; on the second day of training camp he sustained a calf injury which caused him to miss out on the rest of training camp and the pre-season games, the calf injury continued to bother him on and off throughout the first six weeks of the season.
By the time Bye Week was over, Joe Burrow thought his run of bad luck was finally over as he started to feel like himself of the football field again… but only just a few weeks later, he would suffer an injury that would cause him to be out for the rest of the football season.
To say Joe Burrow is frustrated would be an understatement; he was furious that his season was over for the second time in his NFL career, he was furious with the NFL for wanting to do an investigation just because he wore a compress brace on the flight to Baltimore, he was furious that the chances of The Bengals making it to the playoffs have lowered because of his injury… but most importantly, he is furious about how the past few months of bad luck incidents have put so much stress on your relationship.
Joe knows how lucky he is to have such a supportive partner that has been by his side since the two of you started dating during your sophomore year at Ohio State University… This isn’t the first time that either of you have felt like the universe is trying to test the two of you to see if your relationship could survive, but it was terrifying to think about how much longer your relationship can survive through these “tests”.
The past few months have been exhausting to live through day by day, at times you felt like the only time you and Joe spent time together was when an argument was happening… It was becoming harder and harder to be the supportive girlfriend when Joe wouldn’t listen to your advice to take things easy, and now both of you are facing the consequences of being terrified to push the boundary wall of your relationship.
The past few weeks since it was announced that Joe was out for the rest of the season and that he would need surgery for his wrist… It has felt like the two of you are walking on eggshells around each other while pretending to act your relationship was fine.
Today is Joe’s birthday and while you wished that the two of you could’ve just had the entire day to yourselves for the first time in so long to be able to take a step in the right direction towards getting your relationship back on the right track… The NFL had other plans as they scheduled The Bengals to have a home football game on Joe’s birthday.
When the NFL’s football schedule for The Bengals was released in May, Joe was excited about the thought of playing a home game on his birthday… but as he sat on the sidelines bench throughout the game, all he could think about was wanted to do was be with you.
Usually after home game at the Paycor Stadium on Sunday afternoons, you would arrive back at Joe’s home before him… so you were grateful that you had some time to get everything ready for Joe’s birthday that you have been planning out for the past few days, before he has the chance to leave the stadiums
Joe has never been someone that wanted to go all out for his birthday. If he came home to a surprise party with a bunch of people in his house after the long day he had at the Stadium, he would not have a fun time at his own birthday party… and the last thing you would want to do was make Joe upset on his birthday.
You still wanted this day to feel more special and different from the past couples of weeks… and after many days of searching through Pintrest and Tiktok to get ideas for what to do on your anti-social man’s birthday, your brain finally came up with an idea.
It had been almost been an hour since you arrived back to Joe’s house, and you were so busy getting everything ready to go that you didn’t realize how fast the time went by… and before you could notice; Joe had parked his car in the driveway and was walking up the front steps with his keys in his left hand, ready to unlock the front door that he knows you had locked.
The sound of the front door opening caught your attention away from the kitchen table and a smile appeared on your face as you watched Joe walked into the house.
“Hey Birthday Boy!” you exclaimed, stopping what you were doing and walking over to Joe to wrap your arms around his neck and kissing him on the cheek.
“Hey Pretty Girl.” Joe said, wrapping his left arm around your waist, as his right arm was in the sling. “Did you have a fun at the football game?”
You nodded your head, “It was fun… but I can’t lie, I’m still not used to not seeing you on the field but instead on the sidelines.”
Joe sighed, “Yeah, it’s been about 4 weeks and I’m still not used to sitting on the sidelines for the game either.”
As he pulled you to give you a hug without putting any pressure on his right arm, he looked over your shoulder to see a checklist, a whole bunch of random items on the kitchen table and two suitcases at the bottoms of the staircase.
“It looks like you’ve been busy.” Joe says. You pull away from the hug and walk back over to the kitchen table as Joe followed you. “What have you been planning?”
“I know what you said that you didn’t want to do anything for your birthday… but I still wanted to make today feel special.” you explained as you started to do continue pack the random items into smaller packing bags and checking items off your checklist.
“Everyday is special when I spend the game with you.” Joe cheekily says with a grin.
You playfully roll your eyes before saying, “You know what I mean Joe… Things haven’t gone exactly the way we’ve wanted things to go for the past few months.”
Joe immediately understood what you meant by what you had said. From the injuries to the arguments, all the bad things that you wished could never happened just never seemed to stop… He couldn’t help but feel a little bit guilty that it was partly his fault for the recent troubles in your relationship.
“I know and you’re right… I’m sorry.” He says.
You shake your head as you stopped what you were doing to walk up to him, kissing his cheek and then pulling him into a hug. “Please don’t apologize for something that this not your fault, neither of us could’ve expected the things that have happened to you over the past few months.”
The hug didn’t last as long as Joe wished it could’ve. Because of how it has felt like the two of you had been walking around on eggshells, Joe can’t remember the last time the two of you had an intimate moment together that didn’t act an apology for an argument.
“You still haven’t told me what you’ve been planning.” Joe says as he takes a glance at the checklist, seeing a bunch of items that had been checked off the list that he assumes have been packed into the suitcases.
“Remember a few years ago when we rented an airbnb house close by EdgeWater Beach in Cleveland during the Summer with Sam and his ex-girlfriend.” You asked and Joe nodded his head. “I know that it’s probably not very convenient for your schedule, but I rented the same cabin close by the beach for tonight… I figured that maybe we need to get out of this house for just a night and what better excuse to get out of the house than to celebrate your birthday!”
When you don’t get an immediate response from Joe, you turn your head to look at him and you were confused to see a massive grin on his smile.
“What’s with the massive grin on your face?!” you asked. “You’re grinning just like Mr. Grinch.”
“I’m not grinning like Mr. Grinch.” Joe defensively says. “All I was doing was grinning at you.”
“Well you didn’t say anything immediately after I told you… so I was a little bit worried that you didn’t like what I had planned out for tonight.” you say.
Joe walks towards you to stand right behind you, wrapping his left arm around your waist as you leaned your back to his chest. He kissed the top of your head and then leans down to kiss your cheek multiple times causing you to giggle at the over the top affection.
“You’re right when you said it’s probably not very convenient for my schedule… but it’s my birthday so I think that allows me to change my schedule around.” Joe whispers. “Especially if my girlfriend and her amazing top-secret planning skills are the reason why I’m allowing myself to change my schedule.”
You turn around so that you’re face to face with him and you smile when you see that the massive grin is still on his face. “That’s good to hear, I’ll keep that information for the future… It’s good we’re on the same page because we’ll have to be going soon if we want to be on the road and make it to the house to unpack our stuff before going to our dinner reservations.”
“We have dinner reservations too” Joe exclaimed. “We have dinner reservations at what restaurant?!”
“I booked us dinner reservations at The Bourbon Street Barrel Room restaurant that we loved when we were in the town with Sam and his ex-girlfriend.” You answered. “Everytime we’re in Cleveland we always say that we’re going to eat at the restaurant again but then we never do because we already out of time.”
“I remember that restaurant… What time are the dinner reservations at?!” Joe asked.
“8:30” you answered. “Which is in almost 3 hours.”
A confused look appears on Joe’s face. “You do know that it’s about a 3 hour drive from here to Cleveland… and who knows how bad the traffic on the highway is going to be.” Joe stated.
You nod your head and sighed, “Listen I understand that I probably didn’t plan everything out perfectly into the schedule we already had planned out today because of the game… but I really tried my best and I think we can make it to the airbnb house and then to restaurant for our dinner reservations if we rush out the door in about 5 minutes.”
Joe chuckled, “Honestly you’re great at alot of things, but I don’t think time management skill is one of those things… Let me make a phone call real quick.” he says before stepping away from you and pulling his phone out of the pocket of his jeans.
“It better be a quick phone call… we need to leave in 5 minutes!” you exclaimed, before continuing to finish packing the items that you had to check off the list.
Joe had walked away from the kitchen so you could ease-drop on his phone-call conversation with whoever he was calling… You just hoped whatever conversation Joe was having on the phone wouldn’t be too long of a conversation, because the two of you would have to start the drive to Cleveland soon.
-
It was Joe’s birthday but here he was spoiling you. The plans for the 3 hour drive to the airbnb house in Cleveland got canceled, not because you and Joe realized it was too late to get on the road… but because the phone call Joe had made, was to arrange his private plane to fly the two of you to Cleveland (turning the 3 hour drive into a less than an hour flight).
On any other occasion, you would’ve argued that taking a private plane just to Cleveland was a waste of a flight… but it was his birthday and the last thing you wanted to do was argue with the birthday boy.
As soon as the car ride (that Joe had also planned out to pick you and him up after the private flight) had driven the two of you to the airbnb house by the beach… The happy memories of the last time the two of you were here came back to your minds, entering the house for the first time in many years, noticing that many things had changed not just in the house but in your relationship with Joe.
Even if it was just for tonight, it was nice to pretend that everything has been perfectly fine in your relationship with Joe for the past couple of months as the two of you got ready for the dinner reservations together in the main bedroom… and by getting ready together meaning that you helped Joe put on his nice jeans and button up shirt since his right arm is in a cast, then him keeping you company and watching while you do your make-up and your hair.
There was no reason to rush anymore, like Joe had said before, the way you handle time management isn’t your strongest skill… maybe you were a little lucky that Joe had his private plane on speed dial incase of “emergencies” like tonight.
It’s as if the minutes started to go by faster by the time you and Joe had arrived in Cleveland because before you knew it… The two of you had arrived at The Bourbon Street Barrel Room restaurant for your dinner reservations, and the staff was so excited to be hosting the Cincinnati Bengals’ birthday dinner because everyone in Ohio loves Joe Burrow.
Joe felt like himself as the two of you were in deep conversations with each other while waiting for the food to arrive at the table… Joe had felt so lost since coming to the realization that for the second time in his NFL career, he wouldn’t be able to complete the rest of the football season.
For the first time in what has felt like forever, the two of you were able to be around each other without feeling tension in the air between the two of you… While Joe was slowly starting to come to terms with the fact that his season was over, he realized that he shouldn’t let the things that he can’t control have any effect on his relationship with you.
If anyone else would’ve planned this one night get-away trip on his birthday, he would’ve told them to refund the money spent on the trip… but he knew that you knew that the two of you needed this one night away from your home in Cincinnati and he was grateful that he had a partner in his life who knows what he needs without having to say it.
Thankfully, the restaurant staff was able to seat you and Joe at a table that was secluded by the rest of the restaurant, in your own private area just for Joe to be able to enjoy his birthday dinner with you… and the food was even more delicious than you remembered from the last time the two of you ate at the restaurant.
The two of you had sat in silence while eating your meal and enjoying the music from the restaurant’s speakers… but it wasn’t a silence that was filled in the void by tension and lingering frustration after an argument came to an end, the silence was a peaceful.
And to make the end of dinner even more special, the waiter brought two slices of red velvet cake for you and Joe to enjoy before leaving the restaurant… you thanked God that the waiters didn’t sing the Happy Birthday song to Joe because you knew he would’ve been uncomfortable afterwards.
After the long night at the restaurant, Joe and you were in the back of the cab on the way back to the airbnb house, cuddled up side by side against each other feeling just a little bit tipsy because of the wine and the good food that was settled in your tummies.
The city of Cleveland has never looked so beautiful before as you were staring out the car window looking at all of the Christmas decorations that were scattered around the buildings along the streets.
Joe was more focused on how gorgeous you looked, sitting next to him in the car with his jacket being worn over your shoulders because your long sleeve dress was not enough coverage to keep you warm, rather than the different Christmas decorations you keep pointing out to him through the windows every couple of minutes.
It didn’t take long before the cab parked right in front of the driveway and not even a minute later you and Joe were walking, with your right hand intertwined with his left hand, towards the front patio to the door as the cab was driving away.
Unfortunately Joe had to let go of your hand in order to reach for the keys to the house that were in the pocket of his jeans… As Joe unlocked the door, the light snowfall that had started as the two of you were leaving the restaurant was starting to get heavier.
The EdgeWater Beach was only a few short miles away from the airbnb house but the view of the snow heavily falling onto the sand was a beautiful sight to see that had you memorized.
“You’re staring at the snowfall Pretty Girl?!” Joe asked, reaching his left hand out to grab your hand to pull you inside. You were so distracted by the snow falling, you didn’t realize Joe had finally unlocked the front door.
“I was wondering when the snow was going to start in Ohio.” you exclaimed, following him inside the house. “It feels like it’s been forever since it has snowed.”
“Don’t say that you miss snow… otherwise it’s going to snow until April.” Joe jokingly says, as he struggles taking off his coat, which forces you to help him before taking off your own coat to hang on the coat rack.
“So now I know you didn’t blow out the candle and wished for snow.” you say, referencing to the slice of red velvet cake that was gifted by the restaurant staff.
Joe laughs as he states walking towards the living room to sit on the couch, “No I definitely didn’t wish for snow.”
“So what did you wish for?” you curiously asked, sitting next to him on the couch.
Joe turned his head to glare at you with a smug on his face, “The birthday wish doesn’t come true if I tell you.”
This time, it was your turn to laugh. “I told you what I wished for when it was my birthday a few months ago!” you exclaim. “Just tell me your wish!”
Joe zipped his lips and shoved the invisible key into his pocket. “You’ll know one day… today is not that day.”
You playfully rolled your eyes and huffed, “Well… since you don’t want to tell me your birthday wish, I guess we’ll just move right along to your present.”
“My present?!” Joe asked.
You nodded your head as you stood up from your spot from the couch and run upstairs to the main bedroom to grab the present that you hid inside your suitcase.
It didn’t take you long to come back downstairs with Joe’s present in your hands as you sat in the same spot on the couch and handed the present to Joe.
“I might need some help…” Joe says, slightly lifting his right arm. “Because of this situation.”
“Oh right.” you shyly say. “Sorry I didn’t realize that unwrapping the present might be difficult for you.”
Joe gave you an apologetic smile before he started to unwrap the present with your help… As he tore off more of the wrapping paper, he could slowly start to see that it was some sort of frame. Once all the wrapping paper was torn off the frame and thrown into the living room floor, Joe analyzed the frame.
“It’s the Night Sky Star Map… and if you look at the date on the bottom, it’s the day that you asked me to be your girlfriend.” you shut explain, pointing to the frame. “I’ll be honest with you, I had trouble trying to figure out what to buy you for your birthday… because what do you get for the guy who could buy anything that he wanted whenever he wanted.”
“This is… the most thoughtful gift I’ve ever received!” Joe exclaims. “I mean you know how much I love astronomy stuff… It’s good to know I asked you be my girlfriend on such a pretty starry night.”
A smile appears on your face as you let out the deep breathe you had been holding in for the past couple of minutes… He leans forward to give you a peck of the lips before placing the frame next to him on the couch then pulled your body close to him with his left arm.
Joe kissed the top of your head, “Thank you for the gift, and while you are right when you said that I could buy anything that I wanted whenever I wanted… Anything that I would buy for myself would never be as meaningful as getting a gift from you.”
You snuggled close to Joe and his left arm wrapped around your shoulder to bring you closer to him… The two of you sat together in a peaceful silence as Joe’s fingers twirled the end pieces on your hair, you rested your head on his chest listening to his heartbeat and feeling him taking deep breathes under the palm of your hand.
The owners of the airbnb house must love to decorate for the Christmas because the living room was decorated very nicely for the holidays… The decoractions around the living room weren’t overwhelming obnoxious with random decor that people buy just to keep up with whatever Christmas decor items are trending on social media but it was Christmas decor that has been passed down through families for many generations as has been taken care of to make the house feel like home.
It was a cozy setting that made you feel like the two of you were in a Hallmark Holiday movie. You lifted your head just a little bit to get a better view from the window of the snow falling on the beach… Joe looked down and watched how your eyes glistened as you admired the snowfall. While he was never a huge fan of snow, he knew how much you loved this weather.
Maybe it was because of the good food and wine or because of the exhaustion from the long day, but you felt very spontaneous in the moment… An idea had come to your mind as the two of you were watching the snow fall get heavier as the minutes went by.
Quickly, you stood up from your spot on the couch and immediately started walking back over to the coat rack to put on your coat… Joe, who had started to doze off because he felt so relaxed, sat up and was confused.
You walked back over to the living room and he saw you wearing your coat and then noticed that you were holding his coat in your hands… Before Joe could ask you any questions, you tossed his coat to him signaling that you wanted him to put it on.
“What’s going through that pretty little mind of yours?” Joe asked. “You’re not thinking what I think, right?!”
You slowly nod your head and Joe sighed, “It’s too cold to go outside… The snow falling heaver by the minute.”
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be on the beach while it’s snowing!” you exclaim. “It’s a beautiful sight that I can’t stand watching from the couch!”
“I wouldn’t call this a once in a lifetime opportunity since it snows in Ohio every year.” Joe says.
“And have you ever seen snow on the beach before tonight?!” you asked, crossing your arms.
Joe sighs again and shakes his head in defeat, the last thing he wanted to go was start an argument with you since today was the first day in a while where the two of you haven’t argued about anything.
“If you really don’t want to go outside then you don’t have too… But I’m going outside even if it’s just for a few minutes to admire the outdoor scenery.” you said, before turning around and walking out the house.
Joe flinched when he heard you slam the front door shut. He took a deep breath to calm his fast-beating heart down before putting on his coat that you tossed to him… While Joe really didn’t want to go outside in the cold weather, he wasn’t an idiot to allow his girlfriend to wonder off during the night.
It doesn’t take long for Joe to follow your footprints in the snow and to find you standing on the beach, admiring the cold atmosphere… He didn’t immediately walk up to you, allowing you to have some space.
It wasn’t the worse argument that you and Joe have had recently in the past few weeks, maybe it wasn’t even an argument at all, but if Joe knows you like he think he does… Joe knows that you were probably more frustrated that the two of you allowed yourselves to set up a situation to argue about that wouldn’t have been avoided if you didn’t walk away.
He watched you pull your phone out of the pocket of your coat to take a couple of pictures and a video of the snow falling onto the sand, kicking the snow around as you walked closer to the ocean.
The cold atmosphere and the sigh of walking the snow fall onto the sand was truly something Joe had never seen before… and maybe you were right about this being a once in a lifetime experience, because who knows the next time the two of you would be on the beach during the Ohio snow season.
After a few minutes of Joe watching you admire the outdoor scenery, he slowly started to walk towards you… The last time he wanted to do was scare you from behind, but before Joe could make his presence known to you.
“I guess you made your decision to join me outside?!” you exclaimed, turning around and giving him a polite smile as you watched him walk closer to you.
“What kind of boyfriend would I be if I allowed my girlfriend to wander in the middle of the night?!” Joe asked, wrapping his left arm around your waist.
“A pretty terrible boyfriend if you ask me…” you whisper, allowing yourself to lean back against Joe’s chest as the two of you admired the view ahead.
There was silence between the two of you, but it wasn’t the peaceful silence like in the restaurant when the two of you were enjoying your dinner… It was the kind of silence that the two of you have been familiar with over the past couple of months, the kind of silence that has caused the two of you to walk on eggshells in order to avoid arguments.
Joe took a deep breathe before speaking, “I’m sorry… not just about tonight but about what has been going on between us these past couple of months.”
You stayed silent, but took hold of his left hand and gave it a squeeze, letting him now that you are listening and allowing him to continue to speak.
“I know that you more than anymore knows how hard these past few months have been for me… This football season hasn’t gone the way that I planned and it’s been frustrating to go through.” Joe explains, “I haven’t felt like myself in months, it’s been hard to motivate myself to get out of bed and go to the stadium and to be a leader for the rest of the team... and throughout all of this, you’ve been by my side supporting me. I’m sorry for putting you through all of this mess and thinking so careless at times not realizing how it’s affecting you and our relationship.”
You took a deep breathe as you squeezed his left hand before letting go and turn in around to face Joe. There’s sympathetic smile on his face, his nose was red from the cold air, and his eyes glistened with tears.
“I understand it’s been hard and that breaks my heart.” you whisper, placing a hand on his cheek, wiping the tears with your thumb that were starting to fall. “I’ve wanted to have many conversations with you but I didn’t want to cross the boundary line and pressure you to talk about things you might’ve not wanted to talk about… which is one of the reasons why I planned this one night getaway trip on your birthday, I wanted us to get out of the environment that we had been stuck in for months even just for one night.”
You take a pause, because you didn’t want to overwhelm Joe with all the things you have been waiting to say to him for months… As you looked at the time on your phone, maybe right now wasn’t the time for the two of you to have this important conversation.
“Look, it’s almost midnight… I don’t think we should have this conversation right now.” you say, “Tomorrow we’ll talk about everything… Let’s enjoy the last couple of minutes of your birthday, let’s enjoy our one night getaway trip away from Cincinnati. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to celebrate your birthday on the beach while it snows.”
Joe laughs and nods his head, “You’re right… this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
You smile as you’re leaning forward to press your lips onto Joe’s lips and the hand on his cheek is guiding him in the kiss… His left hand grabs your waist to pull you closer to him and your right hand grips his coat.
Only just after a minute, the two of you pull away from each other to catch a breathe. As a shiver went down your spine, he pulls you close to his body and you let out a giggle as you wrapped your arms around his neck and rested your head in his shoulder.
“Happy Birthday Joe.” you whisper. “I love you.”
“Thank you… and I love you too.” he whispers.
The two of you spent the rest of your time on the beach watching the snow fall around while wrapped in his arms, as your bodies swayed side to side watching the clock on your phone countdown to midnight to signal the end of Joe’s birthday.
Soon the two of you would have leave the beach to go back to the house just a few miles away and then leave again to go back to Cincinnati, not knowing when you will have the chance to have another one night getaway trips away from the city… and soon would have cross those boundary lines in your relationship to have the important conversations of where your relationship stands after the rough few months.
But for right now, you’re not worried about the future. You trust that things will work out in their own way, and that one day you’ll be able to look at the past few months as a lesson in your relationship… Right now, you’re taking in the moment of falling more in love with Joe Burrow, just like the falling snow on the beach.

Body Like A Back Road: Part Two
Read Part One
Joe comes to terms with the fact that he can't take back his confession, and it may change his relationship with you forever
Warnings: smut, language, mentions of funeral, angst
A/N: I didn't really expect this to turn into such an angsty mini-series, but here we are lol
Tumblr media
"You've gotta be fuckin' kidding me."
Joe was looking for an outlet for his frustrations, and he found it in the 600 lb. vending machine that was holding his bag of Lays barbecue chips hostage. It had to be way after midnight, the hallway empty and eerily quiet, the only sounds from the mechanics of the machines around him.
He ignored the buzzing from the overhead lighting and the hum of the ice machine next to him, as he sized up his opponent. He faced off against an o-line bigger than this all the time, but unfortunately, he wasn't wearing any padding right now, and the other team usually DIDN'T smack HAVE smack HIS smack DINNER smack HOSTAGE.
He threw his shoulder against the machine a couple of times, rocking it back and forth, before giving up, the bag still suspended between the glass and the coil. He roughly pulled his wallet out his back pocket, pulled out a couple dollar bills, and went through the motions again, stabbing his finger on the buttons A and 3. The mechanics whirred as another bag of chips was pushed forward, tipping before it ultimately landed on top of the previous bag. Now he was out four dollars with nothing to show for it.
At some point tonight, between agonizing over his confession of love to you and trying to get you to answer your damn phone, he must have fallen asleep on the rock hard mattress in his room and woke up starving. This hotel was severely lacking in amenities, the only source of food the stale snacks in the vending machine at the end of the hall.
Joe hated hotels. They always smelled kind of funny, he could never get the air condition to cool the room enough to his preferred sleep temperature, and he hated the thought that someone else had slept on the same bed before him. Still he didn't hesitate to join you on this road trip, knowing it meant leaving his comfort zone. You meant a lot to him, for whatever that was worth now.
"C'mon you piece of shit", he mumbled under his breath as he punched the glass, which didn't budge, before resting his forearm on top of the machine, hanging his head in defeat. He could try to pretend he was angry at the machine for swallowing his dollar all he wanted, but he knew it had nothing to do with that and everything to do with the fact that he had just told his best friend, the only solid relationship in his life, that he loved her, and her response was sheer confusion. "You sure do know how to fuck up a good thing, don't you?"
His head quickly turned to the side at the sound of footsteps, another hotel guest watching having caught his tantrum. They looked stunned, and honestly a little bit disturbed, which he really couldn't blame them for.
"How much of that did you see?", Joe muttered out just above a whisper, the patron stone faced and unmoving, ice bucket in hand. Joe gave him a quick nod and rushed past him, just hoping and praying he wouldn't see a headline about him on Sports Center tomorrow.
He immediately felt a thin layer of condensation on his skin as he entered his room, throwing the key card on the desk and heading directly for the balcony. The door stuck as he tried to open it, giving him trouble as he closed it back with a slam.
Your contact was at the top of his recent call list, unsuccessful attempt after attempt filling up the rows. He pressed your name again, holding up the phone to his ear as it rung a couple of times before going to voicemail.
"Hey this is Y/N, I can't come to the phone right now. Please leave me a message"
Your relationship was a lot of things: messy, intimate (he had the bite marks to prove it), surprisingly cathartic, to name a few.
The one thing it wasn't: love.
Joe had been in love before. It made him sick to his stomach, unsure of himself in every conceivable way, and it always ended up the same way, with him regretting ever having uttered the three words.
With you, things were easy. The sex was amazing; he was blushing just thinking about the events of earlier that night, and you didn't hound him for answers to questions he couldn't possibly answer or try to force vulnerability out of him. Things between you two just were the way they were, they settled exactly where they were supposed to, no muss, no fuss. He had no intention on ruining any of that on this road trip, but it slipped out, and he wholeheartedly regretted it.
So why did he say it then? Why did he say he loved you if he wasn't in love with you?
His feelings for you started building when you guys were just friends, but you both were just moving at different speeds it seemed, and if you weren't in a relationship, he was hung up on someone else and the time just never seemed right. You both ended up in the same city by a pure stroke of luck, but he was so focused on his career and trying to cure his only loneliness, he entered this agreement with you instead of confessing his feelings, simply because it was easier at the time.
Joe had a hard time keeping up with you, metaphorically of course. A big part of him had felt you slipping away for quite a while. He knew where he was going to be for the next couple of years, his contract with the Bengals determined that, but you were never sure, allowing life to take you were it wanted to in the moment. You made it clear from the jump that Cincy wasn't where you saw yourself settling down, and even if you were just "fuck buddies" by definition, he didn't want to lose you. He couldn't imagine a life where you weren't in it, and he knew that once you left, your relationship, and most importantly, your friendship was as good as dead.
He leaned forward on the railing, taking in the subpar view of the main road of whatever small town they were in, the warm air hitting his face, the smell of cigarette smoke burning his nostrils. This road trip had opened his eyes to one thing: your friends with benefits relationship was going to end eventually, and he wanted, no he needed you, after it was all over.
Who the hell was he kidding? He told you he loved you because he did love you, and he was hoping that he meant enough to you to make you stick around. Sure, he didn't go about it in the best way, but he meant what he said, and he needed to make sure you knew it wasn't a slip of the tongue.
If you weren't gonna answer your phone, he'd go to your room and try to explain everything to you. He had to fix this before you got back on the road tomorrow.
When he went to pull on the wooden balcony door handle, it let out a couple of squeaks, shaking in his hand, but it wouldn't budge. Figuring it was giving him trouble again, he pulled with all of his might, straining his bicep muscle, but the door wouldn't open.
This had to be some twisted, fucked up joke. He was stuck out on this crappy balcony, cigarette butts piled in the corners, the neon McDonalds sign cascading a dull yellow on the side of the hotel building, and he had no way of getting back into his room.
His hand was shaking as he pulled his phone out his pocket and called you again, this time being sent straight to voicemail.
Your phone was either off or it had died. Fuck. He dialed the front desk, but just as the call connected, the line went silent. He pulled his phone down to see the flashing red battery symbol on the screen. His own phone was dead, and he had no way to call for help.
He rolled through his options. He could try to break the glass door but it was very thick, and he didn't have anything to throw through it. He looked over the edge of the balcony. He was only a couple floors up, he could jump down, but the potential for injury took that idea out of the running.
Frantically looking around, he realized he really only had one option.
With his long arms he could just barely reach the edge of the neighboring balcony. He could try and jump over and try to get into the next room over. The room was completely dark, and there was a chance that no one was occupying the room, but he had to try.
His sneakers squeaked against the painted concrete as he propped his foot on top of the balcony and lifted himself up, clinging to the side of the building. He was able to easily step over to the next balcony, jumping down into the cement box.
He didn't need to peek through the window as the curtains were wide open and the room was empty, the sheets still balled up on the bed, waiting for turn down service.
He went through the motions again, stepping over to the next room... that was also empty.
He was tired, hungry, and irritable, growing more frustrated by each passing second, but he sure as hell wasn't going to sleep outside tonight, so he lifted himself up for the third time, jumping down into the balcony. At least the light was on in this room, the curtains just barely open. He felt bad for looking in, but he was desperate.
You had just gotten out of the shower, your hair dripping wet, a towel tightly wrapped around your form. The blue light from the TV flashed across your face as you dried off your hair. Joe couldn't help the smile that crept on his face as he watched you move around the room. He really did love you. He felt the familiar knot in his stomach, but not one that made him sick, one that made him excited. He only felt that way when he was around you.
Your head snapped around when Joe rapped his knuckles against the glass, startling you.
"Fuck!", you screamed out, cowering against the bed, gripping your towel tightly in your fist.
"Can you let me in?" Joe asked with a chuckle as he pointed to the door lock, his voice muffled by the thick pane of glass. You let out a huff as you crossed the room, unlocking and sliding the door open for him.
"What the hell are you doing out there?", you pointed a finger at him, "and how the hell did you get on my balcony?"
Joe threw himself back on the bed, sighing as he closed his eyes, exhaustion hitting him like a ton of bricks. "Your phone is dead.", he grumbled out, almost about to fall asleep. You grabbed your phone off the nightstand to confirm that he was correct.
"Yeah, that doesn't answer either of my questions."
Joe opened one eye to look up at you. "Balcony door broken. Locked out of room." You rushed over to the balcony, stepping out to survey how much of a jump he had to make. "So you decided to hop balconies? Do you know how badly you could have hurt yourself if you fell?" You weren't in the mood to go at it with Joe after the night you had, but that wouldn't stop you from chastising him for doing something so stupid. "You're lucky you didn't fall to your death."
Joe watched you as you turned away from him to get dressed, holding your towel up so he wouldn't be able to see your naked body. "You know its nothing I haven't seen right?"
You scoffed, "Joe, I'm not in the mood right now, okay?" You rolled your neck to alleviate the tension you were feeling in your body. Joe sat up, positioning himself on the edge of the bed, his elbows propped on his thighs. "About that..."
You snapped the band of your sweatpants around your waist, stopping his train of thought. "Joe, please don't do this. I just want to forget what happened between us and just go back to the way things were. I liked the arrangement we had." You squeezed the last drops of water out of your hair with your towel. "It was working for both of us."
Joe paused for a second, his gaze falling to the ground. "What if it wasn't working for me?" He could only imagine the look on your face, because he couldn't dare to raise his head.
You were frozen in place, not sure of how you felt. You were so confused; this confession came out of the blue, and while you cared so much about Joe, probably more than anyone else who came into your life, things were just too complicated to go down that road. You didn't like complicated. You liked simple, your life demanded simple.
"Are you going to say something?" Joe let a sharp breath out of his nostrils, his jaw flexing as he finally looked over at you. He could see your wheels turning, and the longer you were silent, the more he knew he wasn't going to like your answer.
You crossed your arms over your chest, digging your fingertips into the spaces between your ribcage. "No."
"No, what? No, you don't love me? No, you don't know how you feel?" Joe raked a hand through his hair, an incredulous look on his face. "I need a little bit more than no."
"No", you shifted your weight between your feet nervously. "No, I'm not going to say anything. I just want to go to sleep, get my car in the morning, and get the fuck out of this town." You stuffed your things back into your bag. "This was a mistake", you mumbled under your breath, but he caught every word.
Joe jumped to his feet. "Finally something we can agree on. Me coming with you on this trip was a big fucking mistake." He paced to the door, his hand roughly gripping the handle. "If I knew that we were going to end up here, I would have kept my mouth shut." He swung the door open harder than he intended, hitting the wall with a bang.
He took a single step before stopping in the threshold. That pep talk he gave himself before coming over here wasn't for nothing.
In the blink of an eye, Joe slammed the door shut, grabbing you by the waist and pinning you against the wall with his hips. You could barely let out a gasp before he crashed lips with you, the kiss hard and passionate, his hands cradling the back of your head, holding you in place. You pushed at his chest to break away for a breath, taking in his face, his eyelids heavy with lust. "What the hell was that?", you whispered, unable to look away from his pink, swollen lips.
He tone was even, his voice a low rumble. "Tell me that you don't love me, right now, and I'll drop the subject forever. We can go back to being fuck buddies, or nothing. Whatever you want."
Your chests heaved in unison as you contemplated Joe's ultimatum.
"I-", the word was came out as a squeak, your throat drying up as you tried to speak. You didn't know what you were going to do, but you knew you didn't want to lose Joe.
You grabbed the back of his neck, roughly kissing him again, pulling his bottom lip between your teeth as you made out. You were glad he was holding you up, as every inch of your body went numb, your fingers and toes tingling with excitement.
Joe pulled away for second, a smile on his face as he looked at you, moving back to kiss you again as he lifted you up, carrying you to the bed.
