#ElaQuerFalar: mulheres precisam se expressar sem sofrer assédio

A internet facilitou a criação e divulgação de projetos. As opções são várias: blogs, podcasts, canais no Youtube, páginas em redes sociais. No entanto, as mulheres que decidem se apropriar desses espaços para expressar suas opiniões, ideias e talentos esbarram em um grande obstáculo: o assédio online. Segundo um levantamento feito pela ONU em 86 países, 73% das mulheres que usam a internet já foram expostas a algum tipo de violência. #ElaQuerFalar é uma campanha para que a gente ouça e proteja as vozes de mulheres criativas. Porque #ElaQuerFalar sobre política, videogames, moda, literatura, cinema, tudo e nada. Porque #ElaQuerFalar sem receber mensagens de assédio, xingamentos, ameaças de assassinato ou estupro ou incitação ao suicídio. Porque #ElaQuerFalar sem ter a privacidade invadida e informações pessoais divulgadas sem consentimento.

Entendendo o cenário

Apesar de 42,2% dos domicílios e 30% das pessoas ainda não terem acesso à internet, o  Brasil é campeão em redes sociais: gastamos 3h43 por dia nelas. Somos o terceiro principal país em número de usuários do Facebook e o segundo no Twitter e no Instagram.

Usamos as redes sociais não só para nos conectar com familiares e amigos, mas também para construir relações profissionais, divulgar projetos criativos, debater política e nos informar. Várias iniciativas têm mobilizado a divulgação de trabalhos realizados por mulheres, como as campanhas #OPodcastÉDelas, #FeitoPorMinas e #LeiaMulheres, assim como o projeto Mulheres que escrevem.

A internet pode ser um ambiente fecundo para mulheres criativas que têm acesso limitado a outros espaços por preconceito ou falta de recursos materiais. Em ano eleitoral, essa participação mulheres criativas no debate online se torna ainda mais importante, tendo em vista a relevância que as redes sociais assumiram para questões políticas.

A internet foi o espaço onde o projeto Vulva Revolução, da jornalista Maíra V., nasceu e pôde se desdobrar em iniciativas offline, como encontros, oficinas e zines. Além de utilizar as redes sociais para entrar em contato com fontes, companheiros de trabalho e monitorar temas relevantes para a própria atuação, Maíra também precisa delas para divulgar o projeto e formar uma rede de pessoas engajadas com feminismo e outros temas relevantes. "O blog e as outras iniciativas que surgiram a partir dele se concretizaram graças à existência de comunidades online, de feministas organizadas online, então estar nas redes sociais é essencial para a existência do projeto", explica.

Uma das atividades para manter o Vulva Revolução, porém, não é nem um pouco agradável: Maíra precisa rotineiramente monitorar suas redes sociais e a seção de comentários do blog para apagar mensagens ofensivas. "O blog recebe muitos xingamentos. Eu aceito divergências, sei que existem pessoas que não vão concordar, mas algumas, principalmente homens, ultrapassam essa barreira e aí xingam, me chamam de vadia, mal-comida, louca, sempre apelando para esses estereótipos que circundam a existência feminina."

Segundo uma pesquisa internacional da Association for Progressive Communications, 98% das ativistas de direitos sexuais viam a internet como cruciais para o trabalho, mas 51% delas recebiam mensagens violentas e ameaçadoras.

Como estratégia para se proteger e reduzir danos, Maíra prefere evitar divulgar informações pessoais. "Ser mulher atuante em qualquer espaço, inclusive online, é ficar se autocensurando o tempo inteiro. Mesmo quando a gente tem coragem de se manifestar, a gente passa por várias etapas de autocensura", conta.

Maíra também observa que, enquanto homens brancos e heterossexuais precisam de muitos seguidores para sofrerem assédio online, mulheres não precisam ter uma grande visibilidade para serem vítimas de perseguição na internet. Uma das entrevistadas anônimas pela pesquisa #ToxicTwitter, da Anistia Internacional, tinha apenas 350 seguidores quando recebeu ameaças de estupro e xingamentos por ter feito uma publicação criticando uma situação sexista da qual foi vítima.

Como vimos, a internet não está livre do assédio que mulheres já sofrem offline. Pelo contrário: o anonimato e a dinâmica proporcionada por alguma redes sociais podem amplificar o abuso e criar novas oportunidades para assediadores.

Um exemplo é o grupo que incitava misoginia, racismo, pedofilia e terrorismo preso recentemente pela Operação Bravata, da Polícia Federal. Um dos principais alvos do grupo era Lola Aronovich, criadora do blog feminista Escreva, Lola, Escreva. Lola e pessoas próximas a ela recebem dezenas de ameaças desde 2011, mas o caso nunca era investigado pela Polícia Federal, que declarava não poder atuar em casos de misoginia. A situação vivida pela ativista inspirou a deputada federal Luizianne Lins (PT-CE) a criar a Lei Lola, sancionada em abril deste ano, que atribui à Polícia Federal  a investigação de crimes de ódio contra mulheres pela internet.

E a liberdade de expressão?

Toda discussão sobre como lidar com conteúdo ofensivo esbarra no suposto dilema: liberdade de expressão versus segurança online. Afinal, todos não têm o direito de se expressar? Alguns podem até mesmo argumentar que denunciar comentários contendo xingamentos e ameaças é "censura".

Na verdade, uma internet em que comentários ofensivos correm soltos é prejudicial para a liberdade de expressão. Isso acontece porque esse tipo de conteúdo gera um clima de medo e faz com que mulheres se censurem para tentar evitar se tornarem alvos de novos ataques. A pesquisadora americana Joanne St. Lewis chama esse fenômeno de “terrorismo de gênero”: os ataques afetam não só as mulheres que são alvo do abuso, mas também as que testemunham a agressão e passam a se censurar para não serem as próximas vítimas.

De acordo com uma pesquisa do Pew Institute Research, as mulheres que sofreram abuso pela internet mudaram o modo como usam redes sociais. Entre elas, 32% deixaram de publicar conteúdo em que expressavam opiniões sobre um determinado assunto. Um estudo da Anistia Internacional mostra o impacto do assédio online na rotina de mulheres:

Por que precisamos que mulheres produzam conteúdo na internet?

Quanto mais formas diferentes de enxergar e viver no mundo, mais conhecimento nós temos. Na palestra O perigo de uma história única, a escritora Chimamanda Adichie fala sobre a necessidade de termos acesso a diversas histórias sobre países, culturas e pessoas para construir uma visão mais rica sobre nós mesmos e o mundo ao nosso redor.

Ao ler conteúdo produzidos por outras mulheres, podemos nos identificar e desenvolver uma sensação de pertencimento. E também é possível reconhecer que não somos todas iguais nem temos as mesmas experiências: mulheres brancas podem aprender e se conscientizar sobre a realidade de mulheres negras e indígenas, as de classe média podem ter contato com as ideias e as experiências das que moram em periferias, e assim por diante. Quanto mais diversas forem as vozes de mulheres, melhor: assim, temos espaço para conhecer perspectivas diferentes, debater, concordar e discordar, desenvolver ideias complexas.

Homens também se beneficiam de uma internet mais segura para mulheres criativas: assim, eles podem conhecer realidades diferentes daquelas que vivem e novas subjetividades. Homens negros terão a oportunidade de construir um ambiente mais seguro para discutir negritude e racismo com mulheres negras, assim como homens gays e bissexuais terão mais espaço para dialogar com mulheres lésbicas e bissexuais. Todos saem ganhando com essa possibilidade de troca e diálogo!

Historicamente, mulheres tiveram o acesso a espaço públicos negado, desde a escrita à participação política. A internet pode ser uma ferramenta para reverter esse cenário. Quando vemos outras mulheres escrevendo, produzindo vídeos, gravando podcasts, publicando ilustrações, fazendo humor, podemos despertar para os nossos próprios talentos e nos sentir incentivadas a explorar nossa criatividade e nos expressar.

Estamos em  ano eleitoral e vamos debater o projeto político que queremos para o país nos próximos quatro anos. Um debate que não seja seguro para mulheres inibe a participação daquelas que hoje representam 51,4% da população. Precisamos criar um espaço para que mulheres se sintam livres para discutir temas que as envolvem particularmente, como direitos reprodutivos, assim como outros assuntos.

Entre as recomendações, está evitar compartilhar ou interagir com conteúdo ofensivo, mesmo que seja com o intuito de criticar ou alertar outras pessoas, pois o engajamento faz com que o material alcance mais público ainda. Denunciar publicações ofensivas pelas ferramentas disponibilizadas pela plataforma e se colocar à disposição para ajudar vítimas são outras dicas oferecidas pela iniciativa. La presidente internazionale dell’ong Msf Liu accusa: «L’Italia e l’Europa vogliono essere complici» «Quello che ho visto in Libia è l’incarnazione della crudeltà umana al suo estremo». Joanne Liu, presidente internazionale di Medici senza Frontiere, strappa il velo dell’ipocrisia, della realpolitik del ministro Marco Minniti, invocata come panacea da prestigiosi commentatori e fini analisti, sui respingimenti in Libia ad opera dei libici ma con il valido contributo, di soldi e di retorica, dell’Italia e dell’Europa. Lei lo chiama «ultra cinismo». Ma sono le immagini e le storie che racconta di uomini e donne stipati e massacrati nei lager libici, picchiati, schiavizzati, torturati «per il solo crimine di desiderare una vita migliore» – la delegazione di Msf è appena tornata dalla Libia dove ha visitato i centri di detenzione ufficiali, proprio quelli finanziati dall’Italia con il plauso europeo – «storie che mi tormenteranno per anni», dice Liu, più della lettera-appello indirizzata da Msf al primo ministro italiano Paolo Gentiloni e agli altri leader europei, che non riescono più a nascondere la realtà. Ciò che la canadese Joanne Liu chiama con parole prive di equivoci: «complicità» con i criminali, cioè con «un modello di business che trae profitto dalla disperazione». Parole che, paradossalmente, hanno provocato commenti stizziti o minacciosi a difesa del governo soprattutto dall’opposizione di destra, da Calderoli a Romani. Nella conferenza stampa di ieri a Bruxelles – e nel video-messaggio diffuso sui social dall’ong che non ha firmato il codice Minniti – c’è la spiegazione, documentata, di questo giudizio e delle ragioni dell’appello all’Europa a mettere in campo immediatamente un’altra strada, quella delle «vie legali e sicure» per accogliere e non inprigionare questa umanità africana in fuga. Il premier Gentiloni ha risposto a stretto giro che si «augura» che «gli sviluppi che abbiamo avuto in queste settimane con le autorità libiche ci consentano di avere la possibilità di chiedere, e forse anche ottenere, condizioni umanitarie che sei mesi fa neanche ci sognavamo di chiedere». L’Europa dal canto suo risponde con non meno stridente coscienza «delle condizioni inaccettabili, scandalose e inumane». «Non siamo ciechi e sordi», ribatte puntuta la portavoce della Commissione, Catherine Ray, ricordando lo stanziamento di 142 milioni di euro per assistere organizzazioni internazionali come l’Alto commissariato per i rifugiati (Unhcr) e l’Organizzazione internazionale per le migrazioni in Libia. E annunciando inoltre come la Commissione Juncker stia cercando di realizzare un meccanismo per «monitorare» l’uso dei fondi europei per addestrare la Guardia costiera libica. A tutta questa fumoseria fa da contraltare la crudezza delle condizioni di detenzione verificate dalla delegazione di Msf. «Quando sono entrata in un centro di detenzione a Tripoli – inizia Liu – c’era una guardia, enorme, che ha spalancato la porta e ha ricacciato la gente indietro con un bastone. Un mare di persone magre, emaciate, trattate come fossero animali». «Sussurravano “Tirateci fuori da qui”. Ho ho potuto solo dire loro: “Vi sento”». E ancora: «Una donna incinta era svenuta perché costretta a stare in piedi per ore su un piede solo, sotto il sole. Mi ha detto: “La mia storia non è neanche la peggiore”. E mi ha confidato di un’altra donna incinta stuprata nella stanza accanto a quella dove è stato rinchiuso il marito dopo essere stato picchiato davanti a tutti nel cortile». Poi c’è il ragazzo arrivato in Libia dalla Guinea per studiare e lasciato talmente senza cibo nel centro da rischiare la vita per malnutrizione. «Non riusciva a guardarmi in faccia mentre mi parlava e gli scendevano le lacrime». Msf ha scelto di visitare solo i centri di detenzione del governo di Tripoli i Detention Centres for Illegal Migration, dove l’ong ha accesso. «L’Unhcr – Jan Peter Stellem di Msf – riferisce di circa 40 centri di detenzione ufficiali, ma ci sono molti campi illegali. In questo momento lavoriamo in 8 centri di detenzione: siamo stati anche in altri, ma a volte il controllo cambia e allora bisogna rinegoziare l’accesso al centro». La gestione dei miliziani libiche invece – come risulta anche da inchieste giornalistiche – non si può mettere in discussione. ************** «Un pane per cinque e unica acqua da bere nel wc» Nelle fabbriche della crudeltà. Ammassati e trattati come bestie, i prigionieri sussurravano agli operatori dell’ong Msf solo: «Tirateci fuori di qua» NIGERIANA, FERMATA A TRIPOLI Ho tre fratelli piccoli a casa e sono partita per loro. Prima stavo in un’altra prigione dove mi hanno portato gli Asmaboys (banda criminale ndr) che mi hanno catturata a Tripoli. Una settimana fa sono stata presa da un uomo libico che mi aveva detto che avrei lavorato per lui, io e altri tre uomini. Invece ci hanno portato qui, siamo stati venduti. L’Oim mi ha registrato qui con nome e foto. Non so cosa sarà di me in questo posto. CAMERUNENSE, 28 ANNI L’Oim ha registrato 160 nigeriani, 60 qui. Erano arrabbiati, alcuni sono stati consegnati ai contrabbandieri libici. Se paghi mille dinari libici ti rilasciano. Loro (l’amministrazione del centro di detenzione ndr) ti fanno credere che tutti vengono soccorsi in mare. Vanno per le strade e ci catturano. Ci sono sistemi paralleli, ogni guardia ha una sua attività, hanno collegamenti con i contrabbandieri. Se non hai amici tra le guardie non puoi telefonare alla famiglia perché paghi per il rilascio ndr). Se passi informazioni alle guardie, su persone che si comportano male o vogliono fuggire, cose così, allora puoi chiamare. Gli europei ci hanno preso tutte le risorse dei nostri paesi e ora che cerchiamo di andare in Europa per sopravvivere non ci vogliono far entrare. Ho cercato di avere un visto per il Canada, dopo due anni e tanti soldi ancora non l’ho ottenuto. DONNA IVORIANA, 27 ANNI Siamo stati arrestati per strada, portati in prigione e venduti. Una volta l’Oim ci ha fatto visita, la guardia dietro il funzionario dell’Oim ci ha fatto segno che ci avrebbe massacrato (se avessimo parlato ndr). Le guardie dicono che ci rimpatriano solo per sbarazzarsi della Mezzaluna Rossa e delle ong. In realtà ci vendono. Le donne vengono convinte a prostituirsi, ti prendono per la notte e al mattino ti restituiscono in prigione. I detenuti per un rapporto sessuale, consenziente o no, pagano cinque dinari. Le guardie dicono «taa’li» (vieni, in arabo ndr) e tu sai cosa aspettarti. Ti minacciano con le armi, ti picchiano. Una volta i detenuti maschi volevano impedire che le donne fossero portate via e sono stati picchiati. Ci sono ragazze ancora lì perché non hanno nessuno che paghi per il loro rilascio, quindi devono lavorare uscendo la sera. Dipende quanto paga il cliente. Un libico ci ha comprato, voleva 550 euro a testa per rilasciarci. Visto che non avevamo tanti soldi ci ha venduto a un altro libico. UOMO DEL BANGLADESH, 28 ANNI Ho passato 15 giorni in una cella accanto a quella delle donne, è stato orribile: nessun bagno, non mi hanno dato cibo per tre giorni e poi solo una pagnotta al giorno che ci veniva consegnata dai neri (detenuti con compiti di guardia ndr), nient’altro. L’unica acqua era quella del wc, eravamo in 19 nella cella e quattro si sono ammalati. Non so se sono ancora vivi. Ho una stanza a Tripoli dove sono i regali per mia moglie e a miei figli quando tornerò, potete aiutarmi a uscire? MALIANO, 28 ANNI Viaggiavo su un pick-up e mi hanno catturato. Prima di portarmi in prigione mi hanno preso tutto. La settimana scorsa qui sono venuti quelli dell’ambasciata della Guinea, non sappiamo perché. Ci picchiano senza motivo con bastoni e fruste. Se fai rumore, se chiedi acqua, se ti scappa la pipì, ti picchiano. Ti danno razioni da due per cinque. Se non hai denaro non puoi chiamare la famiglia. All’arresto alle 2 di notte sono entrati uomini armati col passamontagna. Hanno rufolato e preso tutto ciò che avevamo. DONNA DEL CAMERUN 25 ANNI Sono qui da tre mesi, prima vivevo in Algeria con due miei fratelli più grandi, lavoravo come babysitter. Ora sono incinta di otto mesi, il padre del bambino è rimasto in Algeria. Il 5 settembre volevo andare in Italia e sono partita in autobus per Tripoli. Il bus ci ha sceso in una grande casa dove uomini e donne sono stati separati, eravamo circa 50. Siamo stati lì cinque giorni. Un mattino ci hanno detto che saremmo partiti a mezzanotte. Sulla barca eravamo in 100, tutti e 50 quelli della grande casa e altri. Ma la bussola era rotta e andavamo in tondo. Dopo dieci ore è arrivata la polizia in uniforme su una barca della polizia, erano violenti, ci insultavano anche se io capivo poco o niente. Ci hanno fatto sbarcare a Zuwara dove ci hanno contato e lì mi hanno picchiata sul polso con un bastone. WHAT TO WATCH THIS WEEKEND March 22, 2019  - US

Of course, the big movie of the weekend is Jordan Peele’s US (Universal), his follow-up to his Oscar-winning mega-hit Get Out, this one starring Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke from Black Panther. Right now, from the reactions and rave reviews out of its SXSW premiere, Peele is not going to experience a sophomore slump and the world will continue to be his oyster. (As of this writing, I personally haven’t seen the movie yet, but I’ll be attending the New York premiere on Tuesday night and hope to have a review done and posted some time Wednesday.)

A24 is also expanding Sebastian Lelio’s GLORIA BELL, a drama starring Julianne Moore which I loved, into more theaters on Friday, and that could also make an entry into the top 10 as solid counter-programming to Peele’s movie.

But let’s get to what hopefully you’re reading this for… and that’s the other stuff in theaters this weekend.

LOCAL FESTIVALS

I’m gonna start with this section this week, because I’m so excited about something going on at the IFC Center -- not the first time and definitely won’t be the last --  as it’s the 2nd annual WHAT THE FEST?!, which I sadly missed last year. This year’s line-up is slammin’, opening on Wednesday night with the World Premiere of Larry (Habit) Fessendern’s new movie Depraved, his take on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Later on Wednesday is the NYC Premiere of the Swedish film The Unthinkable and then on Thursday is the NYC Premiere of Pollyanna McIntosh’s Darlin’, a sequel to Jack Ketchum’s 2009 movie The Woman, which was in turn a sequel to Offspring.

I have seen a couple of the movies including Penny Lane’s doc Hail Satan?about the Satanic Temple’s fight against theocracies in the form of states trying to put statues of the Ten Commandments on government sites. It’s a movie that has humor as well as politics, and it’s part of the all-day Satan-themed Sunday that will include my buddy Grady Hendrix doing a presentation in conjunction with his novel We Sold Our Souls. Friday night is the New York premiere of Emma Tammi’s The Wind, an amazing Western horror film set in the desolate wasteland, starring Caitlin Gerrard (Insidious: The Last Key) and Julia Goldani Telles (Slenderman).

If there’s one movie you ABSOLUTELY MUST SEE, it’s Shinichiro Ueda’s horror-comedy One Cut of the Dead, which is very hard to describe without spoiling but imagine if a film crew making a zombie movie is attacked by real zombies… and then throw any conceptions you might have about the movie out the window. I have to thank my pal David Jaffee for recommending the movie so highly, as it’s a very clever take on zombies. (And honestly, at this point, I have no idea if and when it will get U.S. distribution.) I probably won’t have a chance to see Roxanne Benjamin’s Body at Brighton Rock but Magnolia is opening it in April so hopefully I’ll see it before then.

LIMITED RELEASES

Opening in New York and L.A. on Friday before a wide release on March 29 is HOTEL MUMBAI (Bleecker Street), the directorial debut by Anthony Maras, which looks at the 2008 terrorist attacks on the Taj Hotel. It stars Dev Patel, Armie Hammer and Jason Isaacs as part of the ensemble cast dealing with Muslim terrorists who attacked the hotel in order to take Western hostages for ransom. It’s a solid debut by Maras, one with a lot of moving parts but handled sensitively and tactfully due to the nature of the events. I definitely recommend the movie if you have a chance to see it. It’s not quite United 93 but still very good.

Oscar-winning Hungarian filmmaker Laszlo Nemes (Son of Saul) returns with his new movie SUNSET (Sony Pictures Classics), set in Budapest 1913, as it follows Irisz Leiter as she arrives there to work as a milliner (hat salesperson) at the popular hat store that belonged to her parents, though she’s sent away by the owner Oszkar Brill. When a man shows up looking for Irisz’s brother Kalman, she begins to look into her lost past. I have to be honest that I wasn’t much of a fan of the movie, maybe because it was very long, slow and confusing to the point where I really didn’t understand much of what was happening. Clearly, it’s not a film on par with Son of Saul, although I guess some people might like it more than I did. It probably will open in New York and L.A., as that’s the way Sony Classics usually does things.

Filmmaker S. Craig Zahler (Bone Tomahawk) returns with his latest genre film DRAGGED ACROSS CONCRETE (Summit/Lionsgate), a police thriller starring Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn as disgraced police officers who decide to hijack an ambitious heist, stealing the bars of gold that were stolen by a group of robbers. It’s a decent movie if you’re into this sort of thing. Zahler keeps improving as a filmmaker and here, he makes a movie with the weight of Steve McQueen’s Widows, although I thought Tory Kittles was far more interesting than the two leads, even though they do have good chemistry together. This will open in select cities Friday.

Opening at the Film Forum on Wednesday is a wonderful doc by Dutch filmmaker Heddy Honnigmann called BUDDY, which looks at a number of people and their relationships with incredible service dogs who help them get through everything from blindness to PTSD. This really is a wonderful movie, especially if you’re a dog-lover because all of the dogs have personalities as interesting as their masters.

Also opening at Film Forum Friday and at the Lammle Monica Film Center  is Nancy Schwartzman’s new documentary Roll Red Roll (Together Films) looks at a 2012 incident of high school sexual assault in Steubenville, Ohio where a young woman was raped by the football team. It’s a harrowing story but if you’re interested in the type of true crime docs that are all over Netflix, this one should interest you as well. (It’s particularly struggling for me to watch it, having one nephew in high school not too far away from where this happened.)

A movie that I saw and reviewed out of the Tribeca Film Festival last year was Robert Budreau’s STOCKHOLM, which reunites him with Ethan Hawke from Born to Blue, this time playing a bank robber who robs a bank in Sweden with his partner (Mark Strong) and takes a bank manager (Noomi Rapace) hostage before she falls for him … leading to the term “Stockholm Syndrome.” No, I’m not making that up. I don’t remember hating or loving this but just thought it was okay, probably elevated by the presence of the cast.

Patricia Clarkson, Jacki Weaver, James Caan and Toby Jones star in Carol Morley’s thriller OUT OF BLUE (IFC Films) about a New Orleans detective (Clarkson) searching for the killer of a renowned astrophysicist (played by Mamie Gummer), who was shot to death in her observatory. I’ll try to watch this and write more about it soon.

John Travolta and Toby Sebastian star in Karzan Kader’s Trading Paint (Saban Films/Lionsgate), playing a fat her and son racing duo who have a falling out, something that a rival racing company uses to drive a wedge further into the relationship. The movie has been on Ultra VOD for the last month but it will open in select theaters and regular VOD Friday.

Following a one-night theatrical release in 150 theaters on Tuesday, Jesse V. Johnson’s action-thriller Triple Threat (Well GO USA), starring Tony Jaa (Ong-Bak) and Iko Uwais (The Raid) will be available in select theaters and VOD. They are part of a team of mercenaries sent to stop a group of assassins from killing a billionaire’s daughter. It also stars Scott Adkins, Tiger Chen, Michael Jai White and more.

Joel Proykus’ video game comedy Relaxer (Oscilloscope) stars Josh Burge (who previously starred in Proykus’ Ape) as Abbie who is trying to beat the impossible 256thlevel of Pac-Man with no food or water and a bunch of friends and acquaintances showing up. The comedy also stars David Dastmalchian (Ant-Man) and it opens in select cities.

Eric Khoo’s Ramen Shop (Strand Releasing) also opens in New York at the IFC Center and Landmark at 57 West. It follows a young Ramen chef named Masato who leaves Japan to go on a culinary journey through Singapore where he discovers family secrets and new recipes. It will expand to L.A. and other cities on April 5.

As far as streaming, we get our third Western in three weeks with Scott Martin’s Big Kill (Cinedigm), starring Christoph Sander, Jason Patric and more. It involves a Philadelphia accountant who travels West to join the family business who meets up with two rogues who have been run out of Mexico.  It’s on VOD now.

This week’s double features are John Ford’s Fort Apache  (1948), starring John Wayne, with Robert Aldrich’s Ulzana’s Raid (1972) on Weds. and Thurs, the comedy double feature of Monty Python and the Holy Grail  (1975)and Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life (1983) on Friday and Saturday, and then the Paul Wendkos double feature of The Mephisto Waltz (1971) and Special Delivery (1976) on Sunday and Monday. This weekend’s midnight movies are Tarantino’s Kill Bill Vol. 2 on Friday night and Woody Allen’s Everything You Always Wanted to Know about Sex But Were Afraid to Ask on Saturday. The weekend’s KIDDEE MATINE is Clarence Brown’s 1944 National Velvet, starring Mickey Rooney and Elizabeth Taylor. On Monday, the Bev shows the amazing Parker Posey breakthrough film Party Girl  (1995) with director Daisy von Scherler Mayer in person, then Tuesday’s GRINDHOUSE double feature is two from Hong Kong, The Tattoo Connection (1978) and another “Bruce Li” movie Exit the Dragon, Enter the Tiger, also from 1978.

The ongoing Bob & Wray: A Hollywood Love Story series continues this week with the Fay Wray double feature of The Clairvoyant (1935) and Black Moon  (1934) on Weds, the Bill Riskin-penned Mister 880  (1950) and Broadway Will (1934) Thursday, then even more Frank Capra with American Madness (1932) and The Miracle Woman (1931)on Friday (and again, next Tuesday). The weekend sees a 35mm print of King Kongshown as part of Film Forum Jr., as well as in a double feature with The Most Dangerous Game (1932) on Saturday and again on Monday. Also showing this weekend is The Four Feathers ( 1929) – with live piano accompaniment--on Saturday and Magic Town (1947) and Capra’s Meet John Doe  (1941) on Sunday. Also Sunday is a single-showing horror double feature of The Mystery of the Wax Museum and The Vampire Bat, both from 1933 and both starring Wray.

Before coming to New York’s Metrograph, Harmony Korine will be here in person for a Thursday screening of Trash Humpers and Spring Breakers, plus “Bruno Ganz Remembered” continues as the Egyptian also shows Wim Wenders’ Wings of Desire on Sunday. (At one point, the theater was also showing a double feature of Nosferatu, The Vampire and The American Friend, too.) Old movie fans might also be interested in “The Musketeers of Pig Alley” and More Films of 1912, which a series of shorts by D.W. Griffith that run on Saturday and Sunday.

Waverly Midnights: The Feds  wraps up with Steven Spielberg’s 2002 movie Catch Me If You Can, starring Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio. Weekend Classics: Early Godard also concludes this weekend with Pierrot Le Fou (1965) while this weekend’s Late Night Favorites is David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive.

Vincent Anthony St. Onge, 85, husband of Joanne M. (Conkling) St. Onge of Choate Lane, Ipswich, died Tuesday morning, Aug. 13, 2019 at the Sawtelle Hospice in Reading following a long illness.

He was born in Cohoes, N.Y., on Oct. 17, 1933, son of the late Alphonse and Amelia (Langlais) St. Onge.

Một câu chuyện được kể từ blog tên là Real Tiny Trumpet của một cô gái. Cô có một chiếc xe đạp bị đánh cắp và cô không đủ khả năng mua một chiếc xe mới. Thay vì ‘gặm nhấm’ sự tức giận và nỗi buồn một mình, cô đã để lại cho kẻ trộm một lời nhắn.
