I started a second, smaller chain with translucent glass beads. Rose gold colored wire with red, black, and clear/iridescent glass beads. Each chain link is hand wrapped and wound. The jump rings on the larger chain are pre-made rings that I bought bulk lol. Random Jewelry Generator

Follow the tables below to generate a random piece of jewelry complete with a random material, gemstone, style, and type! Pair this with the Gemstone Generator on my other post for even more random results.

Jewelry Material

Pieces of jewelry can be made with a variety of materials. I tried to make it more common to get gold or silver since most sought-after jewelry would be made from those materials. Pewter contains a lot of tin so those were lumped together, and platinum, rhodium, and palladium are all members of the platinum group, chemically, so I lumped those together as well.

Gemstones

Here is a link to my random gemstone generator. It was a little too lengthy for this one blog post so I made it a separate one since it can have a different use. You can also roll randomly on the Gems tables in the Dungeon Master's Guide (page 134). For the purposes of this jewelry generator, though, you should determine the quantity of gems on the piece. I kept the terminology vague since the jewelry can come in many sizes.

Appearance and Style

While I could go on about different art movements and list every object in the world that could be turned into jewelry, I tried to keep my terminology open enough here to allow artistic interpretation for your setting. Any specific motifs I added due to their overwhelming occurrence throughout history, like "flowers" and "ribbons." A roll of 20 will bring you to the Figurines table further down in the generator.

Jewelry Type

Here we get into what specific piece of jewelry we are creating; what its purpose is. First roll 1d8 on this table, then roll on the next related table below to get your final result.

1: Fastener

3: Figurine

Automaton: Clockwork automata are surprisingly old in history. It makes sense that a jeweler, while they might not have all the engineering expertise of a tinkerer, could use their tools to create clockwork parts.

4: Ring

Signet Ring: For sealing letters with a crest or simply identifying oneself.

Rosary Ring: Meant to be rotated in prayer. It has noticeable bumps that act much like a rosary necklace.

Puzzle Ring: A group of interlocking or woven bands into one ring. Since this is D&D you could also interpret that the ring could hold an actual puzzle.

Ecclesiastical Ring: Denotes one's hierarchal status in the church.

Key Ring: A literal key on a ring, usually for a lockbox or safe belonging to the wearer.

Mourning Ring: Ring made in memory of someone who died. Sometimes bears a lock of their hair, their name, or their portrait on the ring.

Curative Ring: Meant to have healing properties. In D&D, this might actually be the case. Maybe let them recover an additional HP during rests.

Memento Mori Ring: Often bears skulls to remind the wearer of the vanity and privilege of earthly life, and that they too will die.

Armor Ring: Imagine one finger of a gauntlet as a ring.

Poison Ring: Has a compartment for liquid or powdered poison, and potentially a needle for delivery.

5: Clothing

Precious metals and stones might be sewn into clothing or decorate ceremonial armor.

6: Neckwear

Carcanet: French for "iron collar," a necklace of thick, flat, usually alternating distinct sections.

Torc: A stiff metal rod bent into a band around the neck, usually with woven metal wire.

Rope/Lariat: Any necklace longer than opera-length is considered a rope necklace. A lariat is long enough to be wrapped several times around the neck and still have a good length.

Gorget: Either a cloth collar or else neck armor, depending on the context.

7: Hair Accessory

Hair Pipe: Long thin beads that hair was gathered and drawn through, usually made of bone or horn.

Ferronniere: A thin headband encircling the forehead, usually with a gemstone suspended at the center of the forehead.

8: Other Jewelry

Chatelaine: A piece of jewelry that is hooked onto a belt. It has chains holding household items like scissors, thimbles, keys, smelling salts, or signets. Basically the most 'extra' that a fanny pack can be.

Now you should have a brand new piece of jewelry! Use it for treasure in your campaign or to outfit an important NPC! I would randomly determine the worth based on the circumstance, but the Art Object tables in the DMG (page 135) have a good gauge for pricing the jewelry.
