Holy ****... I've only gone and done a sequel!
A long time ago, in a lifetime very different to that which I have now, I wrote a novel. An actual, proper-ish novel (this is open to debate obviously, given the reception it received.) in which I sent a character I had created on a road trip into her past and that of her family. It was a violent, unpleasant and politically insensitive story, based on corrupt politics, vampires and murder for hire. I entitled this novel 'Leticia, Sunset Hunter' and was genuinely proud of what I had written.
Tumblr media
My partner and I desperately tried to find a publisher or an agent to release the novel, but being the weird neuro-atypical freak that I am, I was barely able to believe in myself, let alone the power of my words. So after three hundred letters, with only one positive reply who never write back again, I called it a day and retreated into my shell, like a sad little snail, scared of the big wide world. The rejection felt like a cricket bat to the stomach, I had been judged harshly by the world of publishing and I did not take that judgement well.
Time went by and I remembered the words of my dear friend and mentor Mr Smith... “Have you looked into modern electronic publishing?” As an early adopter of the Apple Mac, Mr Smith was way ahead of me in terms of modern gadgets. He had iPods before anyone else had ePods! (sorry for the poor alphabetical pun!). He read his morning paper on the first generation iPad and knowing him, he was probably on first name terms with Steve Jobs. Sadly both of these men are now dead and in truth I greatly loved one of them and miss him to this day.
My first attempt at publishing was with a book of short stories. This was also my first attempt at editing a piece of my writing and I was abysmal at it. The short stories contained spelling mistakes, missed letters, lost words, changes in font and variable font size. It was a beautiful disaster, but I still loved it. This went up on Amazon Kindle and I sold at least three to well meaning friends, who let me down gently as to the quality of what they had paid for. As you would expect for such a service, Amazon took seventy percent of the profit and I received a few pence for each copy sold, which after a few months added up to the grand total of fifty three... Pence.
So releasing Leticia on Kindle was probably my best bet. I worked for months, preparing the story, working on the edits and slowly going insane. My therapist helped me deal with the feelings of failure with some kind words. “By publishing on Kindle, you are staying true to the purity of your own voice.” So publish her I did and the feelings of shame and self doubt grew like a tumour in my belly. Leticia was far from perfect and in truth I would write a very different book now, but I have to be true to the purity of my voice. The me of then who wrote Leticia, was desperate to be loved. So when I recently edited Leticia, I made sure that I was kind to the me of then and all I changed was the formatting mistakes and a couple of blindingly awful spelling or grammatical errors. I also gave Leticia a new cover, ready to be joined by her sequel, David.
When people have pets, they give them cute, lovable names (except for poor black kittens who often end up being named after something demonic), my cat for example has an adorable name. He is a sixteen year old ginger tabby called Jasper Doodahs and as I write this, he is curled up fast asleep between my ankles. Naming books is just as difficult as naming pets, if not more so. I can only imagine how many modern pets have been named Grogu or other Star Wars names, I know of at least one Ahsoka, who is a beautiful little silver tabby queen. The problem with books is that you cannot use names from films, it gets very confusing if you do and can be problematic when Lawyers are called in to ask you to stop. So I use human names for my books and here I present David : Dark Walker.
Tumblr media
What is David about? Well, it picks up hours after the end of Leticia, with David on his way to meet Rosalind, Leticia's mother, when a woman from his long forgotten past reaches out to him. From there we have yet more travel, through this world and into others with violent and unpleasant outcomes and then right at the end, we lead into a final sequel. I wish that I could tell you more about the sequel, but as we speak, the plan is in its most basic form and nothing has been written other than a few introductory lines of text.
Tumblr media
David is finally available now and is book two in the Vampyrican trilogy. At just over one hundred and twenty thousand words, you get around ten thousand words for roughly each pound you spend on my book. I started writing David in 2017 and since then we have had Brexit, a global pandemic, financial collapse, war in Europe and an awful lot of unnecessary deaths caused by the piss poor performance of politicians globally. None of this appears in David, well none of the real stuff anyway, but there is plenty of technocratic theocracy and maybe hints of cyber punk, with maybe a lot of love for and influence from my favourite movie of all time, Bladerunner.
What this means is that with my greater experience of being a writer now, I asked someone else to pass their eye across my final manuscript and they corrected a number of irritating mistakes for me. I still do not have the money to be able to pay an editor what they are worth to professionally work on my book, but this is hopefully a better step forwards with the reading experience for my readers. So I implore you, go and read my new novel, buy it on Kindle and/or paperback. If you live local to me, I can even sign a paperback for you. What I can tell you, should you wish to read my Vampyrican trilogy, you will be getting the purity of my voice, albeit a voice that has changed and matured over the years. I still love Leticia, but David is better and who knows, the final in the series might well be better again, when she lands on your kindle reader or bookshelf. Actually, there is a hint, book three has a girl's name and she is a character all of her own.

The Worst Witch (1998): Character Names, Spellings, and Performed By (to be reblogged/added to as needed)
Pupils
Mildred Hubble (Georgina Sherrington) – Mildred is a clumsy, bungling young witch-in-training, who never seems to get anything right at Miss Cackle's Academy for Witches. She does not come from a witch family like most of the other girls, but earns a scholarship at Cackle's Academy through a first-class piece of creative writing (she is portrayed as being creative throughout the series, especially in art)
Ethel Hallow (Felicity Jones, later Katy Allen) – Ethel is Mildred Hubble's acid-tongued rival. She is a "straight-A" student, comes from a prominent and historic witch family, and gives the impression of being a model student to her classmates. She is spoiled, snobbish and vindictive; though in the presence of the school's teachers she can turn on the charm and act sweet and innocent.
Maud Moonshine (Emma Brown, credited as Emma Jayne Brown in Series 3) – Maud is Mildred's best friend at Cackle's Academy. She is fiercely loyal to Mildred and assists her on most of her adventures, often against her better judgement.
Enid Nightshade (Jessica Fox) – Enid is another of Mildred's close friends, who is introduced after she is transferred to Cackle's Academy and Mildred is assigned as her guardian. Enid turns out to be a wild practical joker whose attempts to make Mildred like her only result in getting Mildred into trouble. Overall she is friendly and kindhearted, but sometimes oversteps the mark in her attempt to befriend and help people.
Drusilla Paddock (Holly Rivers) – Drusilla is Ethel's best and only friend. She is a vindictive bully but lacks the acid-tongued spite of Ethel, and seems to be in awe of her. Drusilla and Ethel have stuck together because nobody else can bear to be around them
Ruby Cherrytree (Joanna Dyce) – Ruby is another friend of Mildred's. She is a very tall black girl, with frizzy hair worn in pigtails and an inventive personality. Ruby is very loyal to her friends and keen to learn at Cackle's Academy. She is also heavily addicted to all kinds of "electronic contrivances" and therefore a thorn in the flesh of old-fashioned Miss Hardbroom.
Jadu Wali (Harshna Brahmbhatt) – Jadu is another of Mildred's close friends. She is mostly very sensible and, during the first two years at Cackle's, of a rather meek nature, yet she is often dragged along on whatever crazy crusade Mildred and the others are going on.
Sybil Hallow (Charlotte Knowles) – Sybil Hallow is Ethel's long-suffering younger sister. She starts attending Cackle's Academy as of Series 2, in the year below Ethel and Mildred.
Clarice Crow (Georgia Isla Graham) – Clarice is Sybil Hallow's best friend. She is very loyal and steadfast in character, supporting her tearful and less confident friend throughout Series 2. She revealed that she wanted to become a proper witch ever since she was very small.
Teachers
Miss Amelia Cackle (Clare Coulter) – Miss Cackle is the Headmistress of Cackle's Academy.
Miss Constance Hardbroom (Kate Duchêne) – Miss Hardbroom is the fearsome Deputy Headmistress of Cackle's Academy.
Miss Imogen Drill (Claire Porter) – Miss Drill is the PE teacher, and the only non-magical staff member at Cackle's Academy.
Miss Davina Bat (Una Stubbs) – Miss Bat is the slightly loopy Chanting teacher at Cackle's Academy during Series 1 and 2.
Miss Lavinia Crotchet (Polly James) – Miss Crotchet is the replacement Chanting teacher for Miss Bat
Recurring characters
Griselda Blackwood (Poppy Gaye) – Griselda (”Gris”) and her best friend, Fenella, are the main recurring characters of the series
Fenella Feverfew (Julia Malewski / Emily Stride) – Fenella, often known as "Fenny", is Griselda Blackwood's best friend, and never seen without her.
Charlie Blossom (Nicholas Pepper) – Charlie is Frank Blossom's nephew.
Frank Blossom (Berwick Kaler) – Frank is the caretaker at Cackles Academy.
Mistress Hecate Broomhead (Janet Henfrey) – Mistress Broomhead is an OFWITCH inspector and a member of The Witches' Guild.
Mrs Cosie (Sheena Larkin) – Mrs Cosie is the owner of the local tea rooms which are in the "out of bounds" area of the forest around the castle, but this does not stop the girls visiting whenever they can.
Barry "Baz" Dragonsbane (Paul Child) – Baz is a student wizard who attends Camelot College.
Gary "Gaz" Grailquest (Anthony Hamblin) – Gaz is Baz's best friend, and a fellow pupil at Camelot College.
Mr Hallow (Patrick Pearson) – Mr Hallow is the Chair of the Governors at Cackles, and Ethel's father.
Grand Wizard Egbert Hellibore (Terrence Hardiman / Richard Durden) – The Grand Wizard appeared in several episodes throughout the series, often visiting Cackles Academy with his wizard students. Hellibore is the head of Camelot College for Wizards
Merlin Langstaff (Guy Witcher) – Merlin, nicknamed "Loppy Lugs", is a student wizard at Camelot College. He was bullied by Baz and Gaz and accompanied them on several visits to Cackles. He left Camelot College to become Algernon Rowan-Webb's apprentice
Mrs Tapioca (Annette Badland) – Mrs Tapioca is the school cook. She is Italian and often complains that she has to cook traditional school food for the pupils rather than her own Italian cuisine.
Algernon Rowan-Webb (Paul Copley) – Algernon attended the Academy as a pupil when it was a wizard college, along with Grand Wizard Egbert Hellibore. He was turned into a frog while still a teenager by a fellow pupil named Mortimer Mistletoe. Not having the ability to change himself back, he took up residence in the school pond and remained a frog for over forty years.

Up date
It is time to discuss some news both from me and from the real world that has impacted on me.
Professor Stephen Hawking.
Firstly this week saw the death of theoretical physicist Professor Stephen Hawking. I cannot claim to have followed his career all that closely, but I have enjoyed some of even his books and some of his humours activities on social media. I first read A Brief History of Time when I was still in school, back at the start of the 1990s, it was here that my love of physics really took off. I took the book into school and asked my physics teacher some hard questions based on that book and asked him to explain some of the concepts in those pages. The poor man was hopelessly out of date and admitted to me that he had no clue about quantum mechanics. Sadly from there, he wrote in my school report that I would never make it as a scientist, despite my interest. Lesson there, don’t write off sixteen year old kids who have been to so many schools, they missed out the basics. Anyway, I owe a huge thank you to Professor Hawking and I wish to send my best wishes and respect to his family and friends. I sincerely hope that the awful man known as Jeremy Hunt can find it inside his own heart to show some remorse too, given that Professor Hawking pretty much embarrassed the man over his policies of hatred towards the NHS. Yet another reason for the huge level of respect due to Professor Hawking.
Writing Club Book
I have news in regards to the next release from the writing group of which I am a member, the totally awesome mega cool writers club (or what ever the hell the name was originally!). The next release of short stories is due out at the beginning of April and will be entitled ‘Another Compendium’. As with the last release, there will be stories from our members and these will cross many genres and styles. From what I have seen so far, you can expect another corker of a read and it will be excellent. More updates to follow as we make progress.
My next novel
I have made progress with my own writing, the follow up novel to Leticia: Sunset Hunter (released last year on Amazon Kindle and in Paperback). I have now finished the first draft of the novel, currently given the working title of David: Dark Walker. This continues the story of Leticia’s Great grandfather David and her Mother Rosalind, following directly the events in the first novel. The editing process will take me some time (the great joy of being a self releasing author is that there is no editor to do the boring part for me), but I expect the novel to be ready for release at the end of the year. This book is more brutal and more political, with more time spent on the planet of Vampyrica, a strange world that orbits a dying blue giant star. You can expect more high tech sci-fi, more religious mania and also some good old fashioned vampire activity on Earth. I have also introduced a couple of new characters, gone into greater depth on some of the older ones and... Let’s not spoil the surprise.
To my mind, this new novel is even better than Leticia, a work of which I am very proud. I can feel that I have improved greatly in my story construction and use of language. This book however is so far a little longer than Leticia, where Leticia was finished at 97 000 words, this one is closer to 116 000 words. As you can imagine, this makes the editing process both longer and slower. I hope to have the first proof read finished in a couple of weeks and the first edit a couple of months after that. If all goes to plan, the novel should be ready for publication by the end of the year.
Star Wars news
In Star Wars News, Rebels has now come to an end, The Last Jedi is due out on Blu Ray and Solo is coming to the cinema very soon. Obviously, I have not yet seen any of the forth season of Rebels, but what I understand is that they made some very difficult choices with the characters and took the story to some very dark places. It appears that Ahsoka Tano survives, which is great news, but some of the other and dare I say it, more beloved characters, do however die. For me, Rebels was always a beautiful show, it was full of emotion, surprisingly powerful in its story telling and always entertaining. Given that it was written for kids, the content was always mature enough for all ages to enjoy. I am greatly saddened that it ended, but also glad that they chose to end it properly, rather than have it cancelled before the story was told.
With regards the Last Jedi, I know that it had some slow moments and even some silly moments, but frankly I don’t care. Return of the Jedi had space bears with stone age technology fighting the military industrial might of the Empire and winning, which was utterly ludicrous, so this is hardly new. Anyway, I have had the Blu-Ray (or should that be Rey!) on pre-order since it was announced and having seen the film three times in the cinema, I am greatly excited by this. Not only does the movie come with hours of extras, but we get to pour across the movie, examining and re-examining the many awesome scenes at our leisure. Meaning that it is probably time to brush up on my Aurebesh! I can barely contain the excitement. So I raise my hand up and state proudly, I fucking loved the Last Jedi and I thought the death of Luke was beautifully done. It is a shame that with the loss of Carrie Fisher, the end of Leia will now follow. Rian Johnson raised the bar with this movie and JJ is going to have a hard time following it. This is what we want though and despite the noise of the whining of masses, it was a great movie with some cheesy, but beautiful story telling.
As for Solo, due out in May, I am still not convinced that this was a story that needed telling. However, I will still go and watch it, probably more than once and we can only hope that it stands up to the quality standard set by Rogue One, which has become the standard by which I seem to judge all of Star Wars now. How many of you, like me cannot watch that movie with dry eyes?
Deaths in Star Wars are always moving (except maybe the death of Padme, which was a bit lame!), the loss of Anakin’s Mother in Episode 2, the death of Maul in Rebels (we wont discuss other losses in Rebels just yet), Ben’s death in Episode four, Yoda in Episode five, Darth Vaders redemption and death in six, Han’s loss in seven and now Luke in eight. Knowing that nine will bring us Leia’s end makes that even harder for JJ.
One final thing before I go, did I tell you about my Blastec Industries- DC 17 blaster pistol?
Tumblr media
This is the pistol issued to Clone Troopers who went on to fight in the Clone Wars, prior to Order 66. It is a lovely piece (and obviously non-functional), that now sits on the display shelf in our bedroom. It took many hours to make, many hours to paint and feels surprisingly comfortable in the hand. It is a full sized replica weapon, made from wood, micarta, plastic and fine epoxy putty. I wont however be making another, the mess it made in my office was appalling and the damage it did to my hands took weeks to heal.
So that is it folks, I hope to see you soon for more exciting updates. Remember that my first novel, Leticia: Sunset Hunter is available now from Amazon as both e-Book and Paperback.

Great News!
Friends, I bring great news, a wondrous event has occurred and I wish to share it with you. No I have not 'found' Jesus (he would likely run a mile from me anyway!), so he remains the greatest player of hide and seek in the universe.
No my friends, I can announce the arrival of the latest and most wonderfully perverted book ever to grace your desks, bedsheets, dining tables and e-Readers with its presence. The very excellent and worthwhile Jan Housby along with the demonic life form known as Jayne Hecate, have released another book based in the fantastical city of Winscombe, in the country of Somerset, in the universe of Faerie folk.
Tumblr media
The new book contains all that you could, or would, wish to read in an afternoon of debauchery, vileness and even hopefulness, continuing very much in the vein of the previous release. Without any spoilers, we have given you the return of the diabolical being known as the Flashing Pooer and delve into the further adventures of Wuffles the Hell Hound Gourmet Chef, formerly of the Rusty Plough pub. Later in the book we go on an adventure into the past with new character Deborah, who wishes that her life was a whole lot different to how it is and whom tries to find a way to change it.
In many ways, this is the best work that Jan and I have written together thus far and it would be accurate to say that we are deeply proud of the new book. We also have several beautiful photo's supplied by our photographic artist Carol Jadzia, with each picture acting as a heading for the chapters in the book.
You can purchase the paperback version of the book as of right now from Amazon and should get it in time for Christmas if you order in plenty of time. The Kindle version is obviously available for download right now and contains the same images, rendered so that they will still show well on the oldest black and white e-Reader still somehow hanging onto life.
Buy the Book Here...
So please head over to Amazon and before you say it, yes I know that they are a despicable company who pay no tax, exploit their workforce terribly and make millions in profits each and every day, but when you sign a deal with the Devil, you have to accept that some evil is going to take place. Anyway despite this, please buy our book for yourself and even for your friends, although probably only those who are broad minded enough not to offended by the story of a man who falls in love with a large human shaped turd! Oh yeah, we absolutely went there and it is beautifully disgusting...
So buy it now and shock your Granny, with the most offensive gift which you can give to a frail and delicate lady of advancing years, thus ensuring you get your inheritance a little earlier than you anticipated*!
*Shocking your ageing relatives into an early grave is possibly considered to be a little bit evil and should be avoided, unless you are really skint and desperately want to buy the latest box set!
