John Lennon's India Bracelets
GURU DEVA BRACELETS
These bracelets were worn by John during and after his trip to India in February 1968 to visit and study with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi at his International Academy of Meditation in Riskikeshi, where Guru Deva was one of the teachers.
During the visit, John, his wife Cynthia and the other Beatles plus their partners were given the mantra 'jai guru dev om' to use in their daily meditations and John later used it in the song 'Across the Universe' which appeared on The Beatles' Let It Be album.
The Beatles first met the Maharishi in Bangor, North Wales on August 25, 1967, two days before their long-time manager Brian Epstein was found dead at his London home.
Later, disillusioned with the Maharishi, John would say, "We believe in meditation, but not the Maharishi and his scene. But that's a personal mistake we made in public," before adding, "I don't know what level he's on but we had a nice holiday in India and came back rested to play businessmen."

In connection with this visit, via Lelands Auctions, a letter from George Harrison to a gentleman named Colin.
It reads:
“KINFAUNS

SURREY

Dear Colin,
Excuse me for not replying sooner, but I seem to have been extremely busy since our visit to Bangor.
The photographs were very good, and it was nice of you to send copies, which I took last weekend to Malmo to show Maharishi. He liked them very much.
If you see Mrs. Willies could you say Im sorry I didn’t see her before she went away, and I hope to see her sometime in the future. best wishes

Fifty years ago today while I was living in Sutton, Quebec at my father’s farm with several satsang brothers and sisters, I received a phone call from Ram Dass who said simply, “Maharaji has left His body”.
I can still feel the magnitude of those words, how my mind grasped for some ground of reality. Of course that came as time went on, mostly in the form of spiritual upleveling or bypassing the tremendous emotions they provoked. In due time I came to understand more of Maharaji’s words to us “The Guru is not external”.
As the years have flowed by I have experienced that so much, both personally and through the myriad stories of Him connecting with people of all walks of life in a way that was so exactly how he appeared to those of us who met Him in person.
So on this day I bow to the Divine in all of us that manifested such
Grace in our lives.

Vich Karta Purakh Khaloaa...
The Lord Himself has been instrumental in the construction of this holy city of Amritsar, and that's why we did not suffer any problems or difficulties, or any losses. The Guru has been pleased with our dip in the tank (the company of holy saints) and all our sins have been washed away with the recitation of the Lord's True Name. (1)
O, friendly saints! This Sarovar (Tank) of Guru Ramdas, Amritsar is really beautiful. The person, who bathes in this tank, has his whole family blessed with salvation, and with a dip in the holy tank, a whole lot of beings are blessed with success in this worldly battle of life. (Pause-1)
The whole world will sing the praises of this holy place with respect and everyone gets his desires fulfilled. We have come back safely after a dip in the holy tank and have recited the True Name of the Lord. (2)
The person, who will have a bath in the tank of the Guru - Ramdas, shall attain salvation, and he will overcome his cycle of births and deaths. He shall always recite the Lord's True Name. (3)
O Nanak! The person who is blessed with Lord's Grace could alone realize the thought of attaining the Lord. O, Baba! I have sought refuge at the Lord's lotus feet, which has ended our worries and all the accounting of our good and bad deeds by the god of justice Dharam Raj. (4-7-57)
