and in my head we’re both still 14. knees and hands scraped from tripping onto concrete while i chase you around the park, & down your street begging you for just one kiss. both of us laughing when you refuse because you’re worried our braces will get stuck together. you joke about how we couldn’t possibly explain that to your mother, who wholeheartedly believes we’re just the best of friends. but i still beg, because while the idea of us being discovered & unmasked would be terrifying, to say the least, i wouldn’t care. all that mattered was you. all that matters is you.

but we’re not 14. and we haven’t been for a while now. and it turns out being discovered and unmasked was much more detrimental and terrifying than i had first thought, because i haven’t been face to face with you in years. and all that i have of you now is a couple brief moments through dms every half a year. 

and when we speak, in my head we’re still 14, but the reality is, we’re not. and we won’t ever be.
