The interesting thing about Jiang Cheng is that he refuses to be his mother's golden child to Wei Wuxian's scapegoat; he actively chooses Wei Wuxian again and again. He defends Wei Wuxian from her until she dies. It's unusual.
This doesn't mean that Wei Wuxian's experience was any less fraught--being hated by a caretaker is awful even if everyone else loves you. But it was an interesting choice by MXTX.
#pallas.rtf#mdzs#this is perhaps because i spent a lot of time on various subreddits#but either golden children don't protect their siblings or the golden children who protect their siblings don't end up posting on reddit#because i've never encountered a clear golden child and scapegoat dynamic like jc & wwx's in real life or in fiction#i suppose that's wuthering heights again--cathy defends heathcliff (until she learns how to be a proper lady)#but i don't know. it's interesting to see jc step in for wwx directly in the novel and then contrast that to wwx comforting jc after jfm#doesn't praise jc for helping to save wwx#i often wonder if wwx was as resentful in the moment or if--like all memories--wwx reframed that interaction after the golden core transfer#the way he talks about jc like he's sooo delicate and breakable that obviously wwx has to comfort him is v. reminiscent of how he acts like#jc almost directly forced wwx to do this mad impossible thing because jc was sad and breaking#if jc read mdzs he'd probably curl up in a miserable little ball#but yeah like... memories are shaped so much by what we think and feel now#all memory is imagination... and wwx was a tormented ghost for 13 years because no one offered him anything#so what would that do to you?#i'm off topic

Sometimes I try to figure out why I'm so drawn to certain characters - Boone I understand because he's got an incredibly tragic story with a lot of character development and grey morality. It still requires some work though (such as giving Carla more of a voice or going beyond his in-game arc).
Charon on the other hand. Bethesda really just dropped that guy and didn't elaborate at all. They said here, have a ghoul who's tall as fuck and is forced to obey the orders of whoever owns him. No, we will not explain how he got this way. No, you cannot help him. Enjoy!

my mum could really use £30-40 for groceries. We've spent a lot of money fixing stuff this month like replacement pipes and central heating (that really should be our landlord's responsibility..). She only has £150 left but we've still got bills to pay later this month so not much to spend on food and other necessities. Universal credit + her wage doesn't get paid until the end of the month (something is coming next week too but idr) 🥲
Usually we ask family and close friends for borrowing money but no one has been able to lend any aaa
No pressure to donate whatsoever — but if you have some extra money, any support would be greatly appreciated mwah <3

i always forget i have Healthcare System Anxiety until i have to interact with The Healthcare System and immediately just start screaming internally for days
#my mom obliterated her bones and the pre-surgery surgery post-surgery experience. the ER situation. moving 2 the woods#this is a vent post i forget my complaining tag#waited 30 mins for an ambulance & when we called back they were like ''yeah it hasnt been assigned to anyone & might be hours''#so i drove her to the ER with a migraine & ran over some pylons (cool).#stuck in the ER for 9 hours. took 4 hours for anyone to give her any kind of pain management. i caught covid#was supposed to get a call when she was out of her 2 hrs max surgery. was told i could call if i hadn't heard anything#5 hours later i called and was transferred 6 times - told she had been discharged - told she had never been registered at that hospital -#yelled at by a nurse for asking for patient information - eventually got the right department and was told oh yeah sorry she's in recovery#was supposed to find out if she could come home or not in 30 mins. 3 hours later theyre like OK come get her#i show up and the doors to that wing are. locked? and no one's there to unlock them?#apparently i was supposed to pick up the wall phone? and call a code they hadn't given me? spent 30 mins getting help from other department#to GET THEM TO OPEN THE DOORS. FREE HER RELEASE HER#finally i get in and she's OK SHES FINE except morphine doesn't work on her so that's. fine. bodies are good to have#we have reached shrimp colours levels of anxiety i am a walking talking stress migraine but she's doing ok. but holy fuck#kayvswords#also like she's black and all of her nurses and doctors have been white so feeling normal about all of it all around

i really don't enjoy the "dazai will join the port mafia again" theories lol
like nothing against ppl who like 'em, obviously, i just think its. the least interesting route to take in this story and kind of goes against all the themes of the overall plot.
though i wouldn't mind a "dazai sets himself up to be transferred but the other agency members stop it" kind of plotline
#for me the most likely candidates are atsushi or tanizaki#maybe ranpo#but if im being 100% honest#i don't think the transfer will end up going through#with where the anime left off#its clear smth wild/big is coming up and it just doesn't feel like the time#further more#the port mafia didn't really keep with their end of their deal of guaranteeing the agency members who were left safety#esp since yosano was captured by ONE OF THE PORT MAFIA who betrayed them (tachihara <3)#idk#i think this plot line could be super interesting#i just don't think dazai transferring does anything new or particularly interesting except give angst fodder#if im proven wrong though im fine with that#bsd

me when i realize i am a very agressive person and the second it stops being turned at people who have at least like, three different kinds of authority over me, it crossed from toxic to straight up abusive behavior (i will willingly ignore this yet again because i don't know what else to do and it feels really good to be an asshole without consequences)

#screen recorded the podcast > imported into editing software to get rid of audio gaps and isolate the audio track from the video#> downloaded the just-audio version and everything transferred perfectly!!!#i'm gonna wait until i have the full show preserved to start reuploading them#plus maybe it'd be good to run it by scott and get his permission to make these publicly available i'm assuming he'll say yes#bc like he wouldn't get money from them being paywalled on stitcher anymore since the app is being taken down completely#so the alternative is just not having ptsdiva be available at all#i'm also going to put the episodes on 2 hard drives when i'm done just in case anything ever happens to the google drive#one hard drive will be for me and one will be for scott if he doesn't already have his own copy of the episodes#(bc he said in an email he wants to look into getting a physical copy of the show so i assume he doesnt have the episodes)#and episode one has a buddy cole monologue at the end so once i'm ready to release the google drive#i'm gonna put just the buddy monologue as an audio post on here and include the link to the google drive in the description#i'm so proud of myself for figuring this out lmao archiving media to the rescue!!!!!

Tagged by @garglyswoof and @purplesigebert. I honestly don’t rewatch films as much nowadays, since I just watch a LOT of films in general and don’t have any remaining time to rewatch stuff as well. But I do have a load of comfort movies I think, so here we go.
Top 10 Comfort Movies (in no particular order)
1. Ever After (1998) Because Gabby made an excellent point, that movie is amazing, it’s pretty historically accurate and has some good moral life lessons thrown in. Cinderella movies, just in general, are a comfort movie for me, and I went through a phase when I was younger of just watching every variation ever made (even the shitty versions, much to my horror).
2. A Cinderella Story (2004) Again, it’s a cinderella movie, and an iconic one at that. I’m a secret romantic at heart.
3. Deathnote (2017) Yes I realise this was generally hated by all. But this was my first introduction to Death Note (I binge watched the anime series straight after don’t worry) and whatever your grievances for this movie, William Dafoe is brilliant at whatever he does, and playing Ryuk is no different. For a live action adaptation, I thought the design of Ryuk was pretty spot on and beautifully terrifying, and although the storyline crosses over into cheesy American, it’s easy to watch. Which is why it ended up as a comfort movie for me while I was taking my GCSEs - I often put it on in the background while working on my art coursework.
4. The Day After Tomorrow (2004) Here’s the thing guys - disaster movies are my comfort movies. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s the bitter, Gen-Z in me, but I enjoy watching the world descend into chaos and destruction. They’re easy to watch, the good guys often prevail against the ruthless attack of nature herself in the end, and idk, I like seeing a little death, a little fire. I’m just made different. Sometimes the shittier the disaster movie the better, so I’m talking things like Greenland (2020), Geostorm (2017) etc. That being said, zombie movies also fall into this category, just love all kinds.
5. White House Down (2013) Along the similar vein as disaster movies, I love the-government-is-under-attack movies, so the Olympus Has Fallen (2013) trilogy too. Just something about very American, cheesy action movies that are just easy to watch, require no brain power, and are just a fun ride.
6. Don’t Look Up (2021) Did I mention disaster movies are my jam? This one is pretty political, but I’m British, so I think I also enjoyed it so much because I can just sit to the side, eating my popcorn, and watch as the shitshow enfolds like the chaos gremlin I am, with no true existential crisis about how doomed my country is.
7. Inglorious Basterds (2009) Quentin Tarantino is an amazing filmmaker on a whole, and although gory, brutal and - let’s face it - a little crazy, his movies are always a blast to watch. And you get to see the characters kill a load of Nazis, inlcuding Hitler, so it’s a win win.
8. Love Actually (2003) Felt obligated to put another rom-com on here because I can be a normal person and watch rom-coms for comfort (I promise). It’s also a christmas movie, so like will only watch it around December, but eh, still counts.
9. The Impossible (2012) Another disaster movie, but it’s a true story this time, and I’ve re-watched this one a lot. It’s sad and angsty yes, but there’s something hopeful about the family reuniting after such a traumatic event, and how humanity comes together in crisis to help each other.
10. The Batman (2022) Maybe it’s become a comfort movie because I’ve rewatched it so many times for my dissertation but I really love this film, and I can’t get enough of it. I just love every aspect about it. And will get a craving where I’m like ‘I need to watch The Batman again’. And so I do.
Lol and that’s it. I will say I tend to watch Friends now if I want something on in the background, or just something to cheer me up. That’s my all-time piece of comfort media I tend to watch. Otherwise, these also work. And I love them all.
