308. Various Authors - Imagine #15 (June 1984)
Tumblr media
So... yours truly is on holiday, which might mean that for the next 10 days or so the posts might come out in a less timely fashion. I will try to keep up with a new post every day, but the exact time they do come out might vary.
Tumblr media
So, on to Imagine #15. We are, unfortunately halfway through the run of the magazine, it's not a particularly long lived one, and it's a bit of a pity, seeing as they really are actively trying to improve themselves, and it's nice to see how each month they attempt to do a little better. This month the great improvement is color! Or at least more of it!
Tumblr media
Another announced improvement is the fact that they are making the magazine bigger from next issue onwards. In this issue we get a couple of adventures, like The Marsh Idol, including a new creature (Marsh Dragon) and also the official tournament adventure for Gamesfair 1984, "Round the Bend". Other than that we have the usual columns.

it's actually really healthy and important to follow people who ship things i Do Not, because their posts making undeniable evidence out of random crumbs they found on the canon floor (sometimes the very same crumbs used as undeniable evidence for a different ship by someone else in the very next post) creates an excellent outside perspective for how i am also winding a red string around thumbtacks on a conspiracy board every time i log on to the otp hive mind. keeps me humble.

What was supposed to be a peaceful and undisturbed sleep resulted in Aventurine rudely woken up by the familiar sound of his phone ringing. Normally, he wouldn’t mind since it means he has business to tend to; allowing him to get his mind off some… negative thoughts. But today was different.
Today was his rare off day and he wishes nothing more than to spend the day with his beloved partner: you. Groaning, he blindly reached for his phone, only to be successful after grabbing the air a couple of times.
He yawns before accepting the call, holding the device near his left ear. “Hello?”
Aventurine internally winced at how hoarse his voice sounds, due to the lack of water for the past few hours. The speaker started speaking but none of their words entered his mind. The gambler wasn’t in the mood to entertain them and it was by pure instinct with how his eyes moved over to where you were laying. The sight of you fast asleep soundly, without a care in the world and with a serene expression on your face was enough to put him at ease.
Never in his life had he foreseen himself falling in love with someone. Aventurine is a risky man, always going all in or nothing but when it comes to you, he is willing to take some safety precautions. He doesn’t know how to function without you by his side. The man reached out his left hand, fingers grazing the outline of your face and rested his palm on your cheek. He sniggered when you furrowed your eyebrows, murmuring something under your breath.
Aventurine couldn’t resist the urge to move a few stray strands of your hair away from your face, gingerly tucking them behind your ear. The way he treats you was as if you were a piece of fragile glass that could shatter into pieces at any given moment. He vows to always protect you and he will keep to his words, even if it means putting his life on the line. For you, he was nothing more than a fool in love.
“..llo? Sir, are you still there?”
The voice on the other end snapped him back to reality. Aventurine sighed before replying, having only understood half of whatever they said. “Fine, let’s schedule the interview for today then.”
They exchanged a few more words before he finally hung up. According to what his brain remembered, the interview is scheduled to begin in the afternoon. That means he has more time to spend with you, much to his delight. Aventurine closed the remaining distance between the two of you, pulling you closer and buried his face in the crook of your neck.
“...How long are you planning to do this, darling?” He murmured, his breath kissing your neck with every word he spoke.
“Ugh, how did you know I was already awake?” You grumbled, annoyed at how you were caught red-handed.
“Let’s just say I have my ways. Now, we should get more rest since it’s still early,” he chuckled, pressing a chaste kiss on your neck and savouring the way you shivered slightly at his action.
“Huh, but don’t you have an inter-”
“That can wait. For now, I want to spend my time with you.”

315. Various Authors - Imagine #16 (July 1984)
Tumblr media
With an issue dedicated and inspired by Ancient Egypt, this brings a new twist to D&D content. But also gives some inspiration for players and DMs, who might want to infuse some ancient Egyptian flavor into their adventures.
Tumblr media
The Ancient Egypt section covers gods, magic and a mini-module for AD&D inspired by the time period entitled Sethotep.
Tumblr media
Other than this we have the usual columns but also an introduction to the world of Pellinore where the Imagine adventures are set, this is similar to that which came out in the special issue of Imagine, collecting some of those adventures which would have been on sale at the same time as this issue (scroll down to entry 310 in this timeline).

I've literally never read any of this segment Gerard Way wrote (?) for Rolling Stone about Queen before?? lowkey got jump scared by his name while reading this article /pos
My dad was a mechanic. He worked on a lot of bottom-of-the-rung cars that didn't have cassette decks. But they had 8-tracks. Somebody left an 8-track tape of Queen's Greatest Hits in a car — the one where they're wearing leather jackets on the cover, and Freddie's got the mustache. I loved it immediately, and I came to emulate Freddie both as a child and as an adult.
"Bohemian Rhapsody" is arguably the greatest song ever written. I'm sure people told them it was too long or had too many movements. But then it came out and just took hold of the world. When you're in a band and you find something that breaks every rule, it gives you creative hope. And Queen were always trying something new; none of their hit songs were paint-by-numbers.
When My Chemical Romance were making The Black Parade, we watched tons of documentary footage about A Night at the Opera, Queen's best album. We used Brian May amps and wrote songs with different movements. But we didn't try to make another "Bohemian Rhapsody." Whenever someone tries to do that, they fail.
I love the way Freddie performed. He would strike amazing poses; maybe he practiced them in front of a mirror, but he wasn't pretending to be somebody else. That was him telling the world, "This is who I am." I remember when the surviving members of Queen were looking for a singer a few years ago, I was like, "I would love to try it." Freddie's songs are just so much fun to sing, and he had such stamina. I would definitely have to quit smoking to be able to do what he did.
Queen fell in and out of being cool, maybe because they were so sincere. Rock music is all about being phony sometimes. And they weren't. They were obviously so psyched to be doing what they were doing.
They had a polarizing quality. I heard a story — maybe apocryphal — that Queen played a festival and got booed off the stage. Freddie vowed they would return as the biggest band in the world. And they did. When we played the Reading and Leeds festivals, we had to follow Slayer, and got bottles of piss thrown at us. I thought, "If we ever come back here, we're gonna headline it." I've always held on to the same dreams as Freddie.
