A Third Perspective won the poll! So here we go! Just one more chapter after this!

Patton whimpered as he heard Roman, sounding angrier than ever. He shook, still in Virgil’s hold, burying himself in his friend's hoodie. Virgil ran a hand through his hair. Normally he wasn’t this touchy feely-in fact, this was probably the most hugs he’s had in one day-but given their situation and the fact he thought he was never going to see Patton again, he was making an exception.

“Pat, it’s...okay.” Patton shook his head.

“No, it’s not, Roman is angry and he’s gonna-gonna…” Patton trailed off, not actually knowing what Roman would do, but it couldn’t be good. He remembered Roman saying that he would never hurt him, but how could he believe him when he sounded so angry.

Virgil sighed, not knowing how to comfort Patton in this instance. Because even he wasn’t sure. He wanted to say that Roman would calm down and everything would be fine, but...he couldn’t. Up until now, Roman had been understanding and relatively calm. But his anger was reminding him of Logan.

Virgil shuddered as the memories once again resurfaced. Everything would be so much easier if they could just get away. Virgil furrowed his eyebrows and suddenly looked up, searching the bag. Looking for any give, a small hole, just anything they could use to escape. Unfortunately, no such luck with those, but maybe…

“Pat, quickly, give me a boost.”

“What is wrong with you?” Logan hissed, closing the door behind them.

“I- I don’t know!” Roman tugged at his hair in frustration.

“Did you really think Virgil would just stay in your apartment?” Logan raised an eyebrow. “Or Patton, for that matter?”

“I didn’t treat them like some experiments or whatever heartless thing you did.” Roman gave Logan a slight shove.

“It doesn’t matter.” Logan knew better than to retaliate against Roman’s push. “You didn’t listen to Patton; that’s why he still trusts me over you.”

“But I’m trying!” Roman insisted for what felt like the millionth time. “And I’m sure that, with time, he’ll come around… right?”

“What time?” Logan crossed his arms. “You’re even a bigger fool than I thought if you think you can win them over in one day.”

“Well not one day, obviously,” Roman admitted.

“So how are you planning on keeping them, then?” Logan asked. “Because certainly whatever method you choose it’ll only lower Patton’s opinion of you.”

“I won’t keep them at all!” Roman said smugly. “They’ll choose to be with me.”

“Patton won’t,” Logan observed. “And likely Virgil won’t, either. He’s already left once. All he really cares about is being with Patton. You don’t factor into their choices at all.” Roman’s face fell.

“You’re...you’re lying.” Roman took a step back.

“Why would I lie?” Logan gave a small shrug of his shoulders. “The facts are obvious. Left to their own devices, Patton and Virgil would leave us both. If you tried to keep them overnight uncontained they’d be gone by morning.”

Roman paused, looking at a spot on the floor. Despite what everyone thought, he wasn’t an idiot. Roman knew his overall borrower approval rating was lacking. But despite that, Roman had really thought he was getting somewhere with Virgil. That perhaps after the two of them bonded, Virgil could help Roman win Patton back and they could all be... friends. However, even after Roman did everything he thought was right, Virgil still chose to leave.

After all, who would ever choose to stay with him? Roman clenched his fists at his sides, but he felt his anger dissipating into sadness as a few tears collected in his eyes.

“Hey, guys.” Both humans turned to see a panting Thomas, who looked like he had just sprinted up five flights of stairs. “Sorry I’m late, I just… Roman, are you okay?”

“I’m fine.” Roman wiped at his face, trying to look decent. “Come on in.” Before Logan could stop him, Roman opened the door. Logan glared at him over Thomas’ head. Meanwhile Thomas, completely oblivious to the tension between them, all but skipped into the room. Logan begrudgingly followed.

Virgil grunted as he tried to push the top part of the bag open, but it was no use. He was too weak to flip it open. It was then he heard voices coming back into the room, three to be exact and Virgil quickly tapped on Patton’s head. Letting him know to help him down. Patton did and both subconsciously backed into the corner as the voices came closer.

“Alright, what do you know so far?” Roman asked, crossing his arms. He knew he sounded as dead inside as he felt.

“Well, ah…” Thomas thought back, not really expecting himself to be doing the talking. “I know about Patton and Virgil. And they’re borrowers, although I’m not actually sure what that means. I know they’re small though. You did something about not letting them go,-” Thomas pointed to Roman, then to Logan, “-and you just...put them in a cage. When they trusted you.”

“Patton trusted me, not Virgil.” Logan corrected, putting a hand up. “And you can spare me the theatrics, I have been thoroughly shamed already.”

“Although he could do with a little more shaming, of course,” Roman smirked.

“They’re also supposed to be a secret, right?” Thomas asked. “And there’s rules and stuff?”

“Yes, there are rules.” Logan nodded. “Which means that we would appreciate your cooperation in keeping this top secret.” Though it was phrased as a request, Logan’s tone made it clear it was not.

“Oh, don’t worry, my lips are sealed!” Thomas assured them.

“At least Thomas won’t tell anyone?” Patton said, after hearing all that. Virgil simply sighed. Honestly, what did that matter anymore? It was likely they were never escaping these humans. And, not to mention, Virgil was more than a little upset that they ignored him and didn’t even try to cover it all up. Though he really shouldn’t have expected anything else.

“Thomas seems...nice?” Patton filled the silence once more and Virgil sighed again. He knew Patton was just trying to find some sort of hope in all of this. Any human could seem nice to other humans. But when faced with a borrower, everything changed.

“Just be prepared, Pat.” Virgil finally said, causing Patton to given him a confused look.

“For what?” Patton asked, tilting his head.

“For anything,” Virgil said, before tuning in back to the humans.

“You know, I didn’t actually know you two were friends,” Thomas said after a moment, looking between them.

“Acquaintances.”

“We’re not friends.”

Logan and Roman responded simultaneously, giving each other a slight glare across the room.

“O..Oh.” Thomas felt a bit uncomfortable standing in the middle of the room between them.

“So, where are Patton and Virgil?” Thomas asked, eyeing the bag on the couch. Roman sidestepped in front to block it from Thomas’ view.

“It would be in everyone’s best interest if you didn’t know,” Logan answered, personally thinking that Roman’s action only served to solidify Thomas’ belief.

“Uh, okay.” Thomas was a bit confused by that response. “But can I... meet them?”

Please say no, please say no. Virgil pleaded within his mind. If anything, could Logan and Roman at least do this much?

“They’re not exactly fond of humans.” Roman glanced to the side.

“No, I know!” Thomas was quick to backpedal from the idea, his curiosity at war with his good intentions. “I just...wanted to make sure they’re okay. And, well, have some faces to put to the voices.”

“They are perfectly fine, I’d assume.” Logan answered. “They’re capable of taking care of themselves. But to answer your question, no, you cannot meet them as we are not in control of that.”

Roman blinked. “We’re...not?”

“No, we’re not.” Logan gave Roman a look as if to say don’t you dare blow this. “Both borrowers are gone.”

Virgil almost wanted to laugh. Both in disbelief because he didn’t think they would actually try to get Thomas not to meet them...but also because Virgil knew Logan didn’t believe the things he said. He didn’t truly believe they could take care of themselves or were in control. And as if they would ever allow the borrowers to leave.

“Logan’s helping us!” Patton smiled in excitement. Glad to hear Logan doing his best. Virgil honestly didn’t have the heart to tell him about Logan’s lies. It might be selfish, but he hadn’t seen Patton smile in a while and he missed seeing it. So Virgil just hummed in response.

“Gone?” Thomas repeated.

“Yes, gone.” Logan nodded. “I haven’t the slightest clue about where they might be now.”

“And please, don’t go looking for them!” Roman jumped in, catching on. “I know it might be tempting, but… they deserve to have some space. Don’t try and disturb them, okay? Just leave them alone.”

“Right.” Thomas did his best not to appear crestfallen. He should have known better than to get his hopes up. But then again, maybe this is for the best. It would just hurt to meet a borrower if you knew they were just going to be scared of you the whole time.

Virgil couldn’t believe it was actually working, maybe they really could get through this without meeting Thomas. And even better, he would think they were long gone.

Patton did feel a little sad at the sound in Thomas’ voice, but knew not to speak up. It was better this way. Dealing with two humans was more than enough.

“Well, I...guess I’ll be seeing you guys around then.” Thomas turned, only to see Logan was already holding the door open.

“Bye, Thomas.” Roman gave him a wave. After a moment, Logan did as well.

“By the way, If you, um, happen to see them again,” Thomas paused, still inside the room, “Could you please say hi from me?” Thomas’ eyes widened. “Oh, but not if you think it’ll freak them out. I don’t want to scare them.”

“If we happen to one day cross paths we will be sure to pass your message along.” Logan assured him.

“Okay.” Thomas waved again, looking around the room one last time before heading down the stairs to his own apartment. Once he was gone, Logan closed the door and both humans breathed a sigh of relief.

Both borrowers also breathed a sigh of relief. They were still stuck in the same position they had been in, dealing with two humans and all, but at least it hadn’t been made worse by adding another human in. Virgil especially, just hoped Thomas was truthful when he said he wouldn’t tell anyone.

But now came the moment of truth. What were Logan and Roman going to do with them?

Nearly adapted completely verbatim from the manga, overall the episode ranking was very positive this week, with no votes for it being awful. Seems each week keeps getting better and better!

All in all, brilliant episode. 10/10 would watch again, despite giant exploding guts.

It was great, especially what they did with Rod Reiss 120 meters Titan. I feel this was executed better than the manga. Hopefully, WIT Studio continues this way with season 3 and the next seasons of Attack on Titan.

Best episode of the season so far in my opinion! Was about to have a heart attack towards the end tho when I thought they flew over the flashback:(

One little niggling thing for me is that scene where Eren watches Mikasa lift barrels effortlessly. I liked how the focus on her strength was made obvious by showing a brief glimpse of episode 1 -the time Mikasa was NOT strong enough. It made my heart weep man.

Eren accidentally inferring that Levi is a tiny, old man was voted most enjoyable scene of the episode, followed closely by Levi regrettably telling Kenny that he’s done for. Historia being firm about her stance with Erwin was another highly voted scene, along with Eren putting his game face back on.

I really liked Historia's characterization in this episode. It was nice to see her standing her ground in front of Erwin and the scene where she defeats her father was the episode's highlight for me.

I think it's not heat, but actual human sensory.

But surly that would attract them to animals and so heat sensory can't be the ENTIRE process of detecting humans.

I'm pretty sure titan vision was 'souls' seen with PATHS and not heat detection or else titan would eat animals, at least that's what I thought when watching that scene

That still doesn't answer how and why titans differentiate between humans and other living things.

I knew it, but one question. Why do they need eyes if they got a sixth sense? Is the 6th sense an insurance if their eyes failed them? The 6th sense could be the work of PATHs lol...nah most likely heat detection.

DID THE RISE OF QUEEN HISTORIA MEET YOUR EXPECTATIONS? 482 Responses

Game of thrones "Mhysa" soundtrack just kept playing in my head when she proclaimed herself as the queen to the citizens. It was REALLY well done, I loved every minute of her scenes

Underwhelmed is a strong word. I think the scene in the manga was stronger, but the anime was still pretty good. The battle was absolutely great, I just feel her final declaration carried a bit more panache in the manga.

The vast majority of respondents were fooled for a few moments while watching the episode this week, worried that Levi and Kenny’s entire backstory got shoved into just a few moments. The preview eased our worries quickly enough though, thankfully! Many commenters weren’t fooled for a second, though:

I expected the flashbacks the next episode because of the episode titles.

I had a feeling that they were going to dedicate an episode or at least part of an episode to Kenny's flashbacks

I knew there was no way they'd do that, the thought never crossed my mind

I was more interested in seeing how they'd play out other important parts from them. They chose some great highlights to have people wondering what the deal with Kenny's past is while also making the transition into the full flashback feel less abrupt than in the manga, where I felt I had missed a chapter in between at first.

That thought never actually occurred to me. Pretty obvious that it was set-up for the next episode.

There's been too many heart-attack moments already. I've been reduced to a fandom grandma who sips her tea and says "Don't get your knickers in a twist, wait for it...

HOW DO YOU THINK THE STORY WOULD HAVE CHANGED IF EREN HAD BEEN EATEN IN THE CAVE? 206 Responses

You guys had some pretty interesting responses! Most people agree the story would have been effectively over and Paradis wiped out. We can't publish all of the responses, but here were some which stood out (or made us laugh):

Drastically! The people of Paradis would have their minds wiped, except for Mikasa and Levi. Historia would become a slave to the First King's "hide behind the walls" ideology. The SC would be disbanded and Erwin executed. So the whole island would be doomed when Marley invade again, and take Historia with the Founding Titan power away.

Pieck kills everyone

All the walldians would have died since there would be no way for the Survey Corps to take the Founding Titan and Attack Titan back from Historia or Rod Reiss and when the marleyans would have inevitably attacked, the walldians would have been erased from the face of the earth. Perhaps by an atomic bomb.

Levi for main protagonist!

Historia would have been controlled by the will of the First King and mind-wiped everyone. But not all things are lost. Levi and Mikasa would still be there, having all of their memories intact. Kenny and his squad would also still be alive, but Kenny would still not have much to live for anymore. Mikasa and Historia would have had a huge confrontation, with Mikasa almost killing Historia for eating Eren, but in the end, she can't bring over herself to kill her because Eren is ""alive"" within Historia now. Mikasa's liege to Eren will be slowly turning into a desire to protect Historia at all cost.

Erwin will be alive / Kenny will be alive / Berth will be alive / Sasha will be alive / Marlow will be alive / Moblit will be alive / Hanji will have their left eye / Zackly will be down with his shit machine

That's actually a great idea. Knowing where the author decided to take the plot, it wouldn't have worked, of course, but I would've loved to see the rest of the 104th taking over the story after Eren's death.

No future manbun eren :(

Historia might have more controll over the ability, If she becomes queen then the scouts will lose their hope for humanity. Mikasa will most likely be.... A little upset... Overall this question is difficult to answer because it creates a Senario with multiple different senarios within it. For example will historia become queen or remain in the scouts? It's just too difficult because of the different potential timelines created from this alternate event.

Zeke upon landing on Paradis: Where's Ereh?

I have never thought about that tbh. I guess we'd have no story at all, since the cycle of Titan inheritance would have not been broken and life would go back to as it was before the "story" started. Though Maria knows what Isayama had prepared for us in the upcoming manga chapters

The possibilities are endless!). If Historia ate him then *maybe* she wouldn't do the memory wipe. It's interesting to speculate. The fate of the Survey Corps would come into question and that would become the focus of the story.

Beautiful animation, but I hope the next ep fills me with feels. I feel incredibly lackluster about Historia and her characterization this arc.

I always wondered in the manga how titan Rod didn't splatter his intestines on the Walls even without a skin. Like, it felt all too much clean, so anime made sense and a bit of splatter never hurt nobody! But with that scene, why WIT censors things like Levi killing humans??? They quite contradict themselves lol

Storyboards were handled by the man who storyboarded End of Eva and the Rebuilds, huh? Certainly paid off. I don't think his input was limited to storyboarding either, while easy to miss the first time around, Rod's agonized scream as he dies after Historia sees his memories is pretty disturbing and haunting. Very good stuff.

I'm sure that a lot of people will write about the battle against the Rod's titan and about Historia, so I will skip it. I have really nothing to add here except the fact that I really loved how strong, brave and mature Historia was in this episode.

Historia taking down her father gave me so many feels! I can't wait to see her get crowned and then punch Levi, he had such a heartwarming smile!

Historia is sooo fucking badass. I love Eren so much God bless his soul.

Something about the anime didn't quite hit the mark, particularly in regards to the scene of Eren noticing the 3 kids and Armin giving him the pep talk. It's practically panel for panel, but the feel was just different somehow.

IT WAS A-MAZING! WE GOT THE SCENE WITH EREN INSULTING LEVI BY ACCIDENT (tho I was a bit disappointed that Levi didnt look as pissed as in the manga), WE GOT REALLY CREEPY UGLY ROD TITAN FACE, WE GOT KENNY AND LEVI MEETING, A SUPER COOL SEQUENCE OF EREN RUNNING TO GIVE ROD TITAN EXPLOSIVE CANDY, ARMIN WAS THERE, HISTORIA LOOKED COOL, ERWIN'S BLESSED ART SKILLS, IT HAD SO MANY GOOD STUFF

This episode was perfect in every way, except for Rod Reiss' giant fucking stomach just squelching onto the wall- yech!!! For a series with man eating monsters as its premise, nothing has ever made me feel as horrifyingly disgusted as that scene did. *shudder*

Seeing the serum bowl in the episode gave me chills OH MY GOOOOD I'M NOT MENTALLY READY FOR WHAT IS COMING

Historia was so good in this ep and the animation for the rod reiss titan was KILLER. WIT outdid themselves with that adaptation

Eren making his move in order to protect his friends was the overall favorite scene of the episode. Closely behind is Squad Levi showing up to save Eren and Historia. Despite some upset about the change, the scene where Levi tells Historia she has to become the queen ranked third.

The hardest question for me to answer was what my most favourite scene was because frankly speaking, none of the “big” and “impressive” scenes made an impact on me. I just rewatched S2 and was blown away by how the last few episodes especially were so well done. I wish this season makes me feel the same way later on.

I didn't really like the CGI in season 2, but to be honest I expected it for the turkey titan and holy hell does it look big 10/10

I don't mind it too much, but i think traditional animation would be better.

I remember this feeling of absolute horror and disgust when I first saw Rod Reiss' titan back in the manga but the memes over the years made me forget. Wit has very successfully brought those feelings to the fore again, and goddamn I get shudders even now and I've rewatched the episode twice already.

I'm halfway though... A part of me wanna see turkey titan moving. A part of me actually prefer worm titan coz it is more disgusting. Anyways CGI are overdone in this scene. Wonder if the face reveal will be as disgusting as the rest of the body

I was worried about it at first glance as the Colossal Titan in season 2 was too out of place, but it worked and probably helped that Rod’s Titan can’t stand upright.

It makes a lot of sense that Connie would jump in Historia's defense to prevent her from taking another role given that he was there to witness her shedding one during Utgard. And while Jean's is great, it works better at cementing his tumultous relationship with Levi and how he works as the voice of Springlestein.

While I like the concept of the 104th kids showing their concern for Historia, the dialogue pretty much spelled out Historia's character arc and felt incredibly forced and on the nose

I don't think that comment would've fit the tone of the scene. I'm hoping that it will be made clear that Eren normally can't use the power some other way.

I am so so angry that this scene was cut!! Not only was it HILARIOUS but it was a small moment of reprieve from the heavy atmosphere and I am so bitter about its removal!

With the top two options being at nearly a tie, 25.1% still believe that the scene should have been included before the kidnapping - brutality included - and 24.9% were just happy to have it although the characterization of Historia and Levi feels changed. 23% agreed that the change was needed as Levi lifting Historia at this point in the story would no longer make any sense. 17% preferred the change and felt it gave Historia more agency over her situation.

Considering this scene took place after the kidnapping it wouldn’t make sense for Levi to get angry and attack her but the scene was pretty underwhelming compared to the manga. Although I’m just glad that this means we still get to see Historia punch Levi (even if he hadn’t really done anything to deserve it in this version).

While it would have been great to see a little more irrational side of Levi, the change fit in very well and helped establish the relationships of Squad Levi

It should have being either included in it original form before the kidnapping or dropped all together including payoff with punching and smiling. Now it makes little sense for Mikasa to suggest something like that or for Historia to feel that way, we also lost asshole Levi moment, which would had add a dimension to his anime version. Why do you guys want to see a grown man throw around a little girl so much? Gross! Grow up! I couldn't be happier with the way that scene change went! As well as Mikasa's being the one to get Reeves' line about punching Levi - I think it both fits and is unexpectedly cute.

The feeling that I got from Mikasa's smile/smirk was that she JOKINGLY suggested that Historia hit Levi, mostly because she's not his biggest fan and she enjoys messing with people (for example, eating the bread in front of Sasha, and the funny expression she elicited from Historia by saying this). Mikasa is going to be surprised (and ofc delighted) when she realizes Historia actually took her literally lmao

Why did Mikasa told Historia to punch Levi? Historia has no reason to punch him since he did nothing to her. It doesn't make any sense for her to hit him just because Mikasa told her to, or at least it has so much less meaning than in the manga…

A lot of people yelling at WIT. Sure, I miss some of the exclusions too but the pacing change was needed and stuff has to be cut. The important bits of the story are still all there. I think they're doing a fantastic job and I'm almost sure Isayama gave his thumbs-up for all the changes.

Since there were no questions about the soundtrack I'll use this place to try to convert everybody to the Sawanism. God the music was a masterpiece!

The CGI worm titan was such an alienating thing to witness that it took away from the horror of the situation. It might have looked really hideous as this creepy-crawly giant thing of a titan, but sadly it just didn't work. On second viewing, it didn't bother me as much as the first time, though, so I guess one can get used to it.

I don't know if any of the music was new or not but wow!!! It made those scenes feel so much more emotional

Levi is a much sweeter version of himself in the anime, I've noticed. In fact nothing is as dark as it was in the manga. But Accordion Titan is way creepier animated so no complaints there.

I'm kinda disappointed that WIT remove some Frieda flashbacks, (last episode with the possessed Frieda scene missing, and here Historia not thinking about her alongside Ymir) it reduces the impact she has on Historia's life/development.

I was watching it in the night, so it gave me some double thrills :D Rod's titan was really creepy and Sawano's music made him to be even more scary. In my opinion the animation was awesome. It looked much better than I expected. The whole extreme moments in the cave was also amazing and I truly liked them.

For once WIT did eremin some justice with their reunion touch (my heart!), every mikahisu moment was perfect (yes, even the one at the end where mikasa tells historia to punch levi) and I ADORED that they gave historia so much agency in her decision to become queen! Honestly if I had to watch Levi rough her up at this point in the series, I probably would've vomited. It would've been incredibly unnecessary (which is likely why isa changed it, don't y'all think?) and this way was SO MUCH BETTER. Plus jean and conny being so concerned for her was THE BEST THING EVER, they're just like "but dad, what about my friend's FEELINGS?" and I LOVED IT. That's snk at its core tbh. Historia definitely deserves it too. And her power walk into the briefing room afterward was everything! In conclusion! Eremin is real! Mikahisu is real! And erurihan is fuckin real! That "danchou" had me FLOORED and we already know how much both erwin and levi love hange so like.. get with the winning team y'all.

Armin described the moment Rod's titan came out from under the chapel as something like "the end of the world". Between the music and his nightmarish CGI look, I was sold on that description. Oh, and since I mentioned music, Sawano's at it again, the absolute madman! Will he ever stop coming up with good tunes? The answer is never.

My ovaries are ready for wet cast in next episode!!
