Got any Octavia headcanons? Just in general 🦉🌠
Now, I don't have a ton since Octavia isn't one of my favorite characters and doesn't have a ton of screentime, but I did have a few, so ask and you shall receive!
“This place REEKS of corporate shame.”
(Octavia headcanons I think are pretty accurate)
Tumblr media
Octavia is super active on Sinstagram, but unlike most girls her age, she mostly posts photography and sometimes she tries silly trends or makeup looks with her dad.
Despite her original anger at her father’s affair, Octavia grows to love Blitz as if he were a second dad.
Via practices magic often with tutors or in school, but she prefers learning with her dad because she enjoys the bonding time it gives them. When her parents split up, one of the hardest things for her was having her studies with her dad cut in half.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her favorite snack is roasted marshmallows (sometimes smores). She often just gets a bag of marshmallows and sits in her room, using her pyrokinesis to roast them while she watches horror movies in bed.
While she is asexual, Octavia is biromantic. Stolas and Loona are the only two people who she's felt comfortable enough to come out to.
She loves to read, mostly thrillers and mystery novels. She plans to have enough books to rival her father's plant collection.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After her trip to the human world in “Seeing Stars”, Loona and Octavia made it a point to have coffee at least once a month. While the two usually have coffee and walk around Stylish Occult and other hell stores similar to it, they use the time to vent about their fathers, school/work, unbeknownst to their fathers, the girls sometimes sneak to earth to take in the sights there.
Loona is the first person she tried drugs or alcohol with. Via really wanted to try something rebellious so Loona supervised her while smoked a little weed and took a few shots.... then spent the rest of the night holding her hair while she puked and trying to bring down the paranoia levels. They both agreed Stolas and Blitz never needed to know that happened.
Stella is afraid of reptiles…. Unbeknownst to her, Stolas has let their daughter keep a pet snake that she found in his garden. Via has had this snake for almost 4 years without her mother's knowledge and it's name is Starlight.
Tumblr media
Octavia still hasn’t mastered transforming into her full demon form, but she is more interested in learning to transform into her human form since she’s seen both of her parents and Loona do it before and she thinks they all look quite pretty in their human forms… Since she struggles with finding anything attractive about herself now, she wonders if she’ll be as pretty as them.
Octavia is extremely musically inclined and despite her mother hating it, Via taught herself to play the drums.
Via visits her father in the hospital every day. He makes her promise to take care of his plants and she actually ends up really enjoying tending to the garden, she even talks to the plants and plays music for them to try to cheer them up since, much like her, they're also feeling a bit lost without Stolas at home.
After taking up journaling, she took up writing poetry and she sometimes performs it at open mic nights. She’s never told anyone, but she really enjoys it and despite her demeanor, she’s found that her mental health has improved tremendously since she started writing.
Collects interesting/weird taxidermy and gives each one a unique and personality.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Up until her first appearance in Helluva Boss, Octavia actually did the most to earn her mother’s affection. She stopped in hopes that the drastic change in behavior would catch her mother’s attention… When it didn’t, she slowly started learning who she was apart from her parents and came up with her current personality and aesthetic.
Loves spice. Like could care less about cookies or cupcakes most of the time but wants to eat the hottest pepper she can find like a tic tac.
Very much the type who wants to advocate for those who are struggling. Since she can’t do much to make hell better, once she’s old enough and learns to shift into her human form, she totally comes to the human realm to help with protests for causes she believes in.
Speaks in nothing but song lyrics sometimes. No reason, just does it.

prime numbers! ((emberoops))
Does your character have siblings or family members in their age group? Which one are they closest with?
THIS IS SO SAD BUT NO...... he would DIE for a sibling, and his parents dont have siblings either so he doesnt even have cousins,,, he longs for that kind of relationship so much??
he ended up projecting being a big brother to many people over the course of his life instead, and it embarrasses him so much when he notices it happening, it makes him feel so silly
i would say the biggest tugs of that kind of dynamic rn are maybe with colin especially with all the dumb fake animosity, while adrien is almost a legit Parental/mother hen feeling of being protective of him
What is/was your character’s relationship with their mother like?
ive talked about this a bit before, but graham was the product of an arranged marriage. his grandfather made his dad marry a woman from a prestigious family so they could keep their popularity and prestige and important connections themselves, especially as immigrants in a very racist country
his parents ended up caring deeply for one another, but not in a romantic way, and his mother was extremely depressed and anxious throughout her pregnancy, and after graham was born. she was nearly suicidal and grahams grandfather was only making things worse, so it was grahams dad who basically. decided to say fuck it to his father, bring grahams mother somewhere safe, give her all the money and resources and protection she needed to get better and pursue her own life, and he was super attached to baby graham and wanted to raise him all by himself
this early turmoil traumatized graham and when he grew up it was something that made him feel othered in relation to his peers, in addition to his race, his culture, his budding gender identity and sexual & romantic orientations. it made him feel deeply unloveable, broken, and incapable of love himself, it was one of the things that made him grow up very wary of the concept of marriage, and it took a lot of vulnerability, respect and genuine care and hard work between him and his dad to understand that the circumstances of his birth were not his fault, and that this was the best solution for everyone to be able to experience their love for each other the best way possible
graham has met her several times, writes to her regularly, and he treats her like a dear friend rather than a parent. hes happy for her, her art degrees, her girlfriend, and in turn shes expressed a lot of pride and joy in getting to meet this boy she helped bring to the world
What is/was your character’s relationship with their father like?
graham loves his dad to fucking pieces
hes such a humble, emotionally intelligent and caring man, who from early on caught onto all the outdated and damaging aspects of the traditions of his family and fought against it time after time after time
he is completely different from his own father, who had very specific plans for him, and he just foiled them all!
with grahams birth, he did the best he could raising him by himself, thwarting his fathers enduring influence, and making sure this kid had all the tools to be true to himself and follow his heart no matter what. he isnt perfect and of course he made many mistakes, but he is always humble enough to admit when hes wrong, apologize to his child, communicate his feelings and figure out solutions together. graham has always had an amazing role model in him
the circumstances of grahams disappearance and then return after the trials of his own jumanji esque adventure are still difficult for him to understand, but he still believed graham, and he was the biggest force in bringing his son back from his damaging self isolation and motivate him to cook, to live, to carry on
he still remains ever supporting and adoring of his child, adoring of his new child in law, and just an all around amazing dude
On an average day, what can be found in your character’s pockets?
what pockets....
Does your character have recurring themes in their nightmares?
if theyre not horror movie or game induced, then theyre related to his period of isolation, to being trapped in an endlessly dark, silent, quiet cold place
he may see himself as he was when that happened too, close to starvation, hollow and alone
In what situation was your character the most afraid they’ve ever been?
during the time they were in their own jumanji esque adventure, completely by himself, unaided, trapped in some reality away from his own so he could put it together and slowly solve this lock puzzle until he got to come home again
Is your character bothered by the sight of blood? If so, in what way?
hes usually ok with handling himself with crises, even when theres a lot of blood
What was your character’s favorite toy as a child?
bunnies! lots of sweet stuffies, including rabbits, pokemon and marine creatures
his gameboy and his tamagotchi too
What is your character’s biggest relationship flaw? Has this flaw destroyed relationships for them before?
i would say his biiiiiiig repulsion/aversion to dating culture in general? this is related to his family history but is also a big consequence of his aromanticism
he has huge trouble understanding all the rituals of people jumping into commitments and weird expectations and fleeting obsessions when most of the time they dont even have a solid foundation of time, vulnerability and trust to even call themselves a good friendship, especially in people who he sees jump into the same pitfalls over and over?
ultimately he understands that his own circumstances are important differences in how people shape their relationships, but it still makes him extremely secondhand anxious, especially because in his experience as an observer rushed things and pushed expectations make for very volatile and intense disappointments that end up hurting him a lot too, and hes kinda very tired of that
nonetheless, this has made him grow distant of friends in the past, and while he regrets some of it and wishes it was easier to compromise and be more comfortable about it, he also knows that he was right about many situations and ultimately it was a better idea not to get involved and trust his gut
What does your character dislike in other people?
nonsensical violence, general assholery, unwillingness to listen, lack of consideration for others, being treated as someone useful for stuff he knows or tools he has or things he can give and then being discarded, he also feels very peeved when people sexualize him when hes talked about his nudity before and how it relates with growing comfort with his self image
What did your character dream of being or doing as a child? Did that dream come true?
i would say so, yes!! working on video games, pro cuddling and cooking for others are definitely pinnacles of things hes always thought would bring others joy
Describe a scenario in which your character feels most comfortable.
home... close to kes, taking a deep breath in their little home, with their little family, and feeling wholly, intrinsically belonging...
similar locations are for example when his dad throws a party and graham gets to invite all his best friends and everyone just has a lovely time laughing and eating together. game streams are a similar venture too!!
but at the end of the day, coming home, kicking off shoes and clothes, snuggling up to his starlight and their babies? pure bliss
Is your character more concerned with defending their honor, or protecting their status?
i still dont understand what this means,,,,
he does not have honor OR status SOBS
Does your character feel that they deserve to have what they want, whether it be material or abstract, or do they feel they must earn it first?
oh it is a constant cycle of tremendous happiness and having to pinch himself bc hes so scared hes still in the silent cold dark alone... hes always trying to do better to keep earning this. hes a bit better about it now, he understand ppl are here bc they want to, but yknow. brain trauma still does things sometimes.
Has your character ever had a dependent figure who was not related to them?
nope! but his dad moods are soooo big now. he just wants to protect kids and be a good influence...

Emotional Disarmament - One-Shot
Because hot dang Riku is such a great character and they made him so pretty in KH3.
Tumblr media
With an outcry, the tower of swirling Heartless smashed into Riku, sending him flying back. He slid across the sand, dropping his keyblade. He heard the jingling that was the weapon dissolving into light but didn’t see it vanish, face buried in the sand.
He looked up in time to see the demon tower approaching his friend.
“Mickey!” Riku shouted, watching the Disney Town king get swallowed up by the Heartless swarm. He reached his hand out, willing his keyblade into existence.
Riku woke with a gasp, lashing out his right hand, keyblade appearing in a flash of light.
*****
I woke to Braveheart, a familiar keyblade, inches from my throat. It took me a moment to get my bearings. Forest. Open skies. Sleeping bags. Training mission to the Kingdom of Corona. “M... Master Riku?” I asked quietly, rubbing sleep out of my eyes tiredly. I sat up, gently pushing his keyblade out of the way. He gasped and let it vanish into light.
“Did... did I hurt you?” he asked.
I shook my head. “No. What’s going on?”
He shook his head too. “Nothing. Bad dream. Go back to sleep.”
“The Realm of Darkness again?”
Blue-green eyes bored right into me, piercing straight to my soul. He’d always looked at everyone like that. Perceptive, sharp, and yet welcoming. He sighed. “Yeah,” he admitted.
I nodded. “Wanna talk about it?”
“No. I’m... I’m fine. Go back to sleep. We’re continuing training tomorrow.” He flopped back down, throwing one hand behind his head and gazing up at the stars.
“Mmm... Master Riku?”
That earned me another sigh---this one more exasperated than reluctant. “How many times have I asked you to just call me Riku?”
“But... you’re training me. You’re a keyblade master. It’s only polite---”
“We’re the same age,” he interrupted. “There’s really no need.”
I lowered myself back down onto my sleeping bag and turned my gaze to the stars. “Why’d you pick me?” I asked.
“Huh?”
“Why did you want to train me? Of all people. I mean. I’m not particularly skilled or athletic...”
“Not at first. But... Ventus asked me if I would consider training you after he Bequeathed you his power. And I agreed because I saw potential in you. The same way Terra once saw potential in me. And I was... five years old at the time. Nothing remarkable about me. I see past your physical body and right into your heart. Your keyblade is an extension of your own heart. And look how bright it is. You’re like Sora---full of light and love and life. Your keyblade is a reflection of that.”
I nodded.
“‘Sides, you’re getting way more athletic the more we train,” Riku added. “And I’m proud of you.”
“Thanks,” I said.
“Now get some more sleep. We’ve got more training to do in the morning. Don’t let me down.”
“I won’t.” I rolled onto my side so my back was to him and put my hands under my head. “Night Master Riku.”
“It’s just Riku. And goodnight.”
I closed my eyes and tried to sleep. Riku grunted after a few minutes. I rolled onto my other side to face him. “You okay?”
He was rubbing his chest. “Storm’s comin’ in. We should find a more sheltered spot to finish the night in,” he said.
“How can you tell?”
“Old injuries are aching. Always do when it rains or when rain’s coming.” He sat up and rolled up his sleeping bag. “Pretty sure I saw a cave a few yards downstream. Let’s go check it out. Do me a favor: summon your keyblade, will ya?”
“Why?” I asked, grabbing my pack and wriggling out of my sleeping bag. Riku immediately started rolling it up. “I can---”
“I know. But your keyblade gives off light. We need to see.”
I held my hand out. My keyblade appeared and my fist closed around the hilt. It was similar to Lea’s---but with less fire and more white starlight. Its gentle, pale glow dimly lit the clearing we’d been sleeping in. “Are you ever going to trust me with your nightmares, Master Riku?”
“Maybe the day you start just calling me Riku, I might.” He smirked at me over his shoulder.
“You’re training me. That puts you in the position of authority. ‘Master’ is a gesture of respect.”
He stood up and put my sleeping bag on his shoulder, one arm wrapped around it. His was under his other arm, pack on his other shoulder. He gave me a smile. “And we’re still the same age. I know more stuff than you in one area. That doesn’t make me higher up than you. You’re definitely smarter than me in... pretty much every other area. If anything, I should be calling you the master. You’re the master of life and the real world. I know how to fight with a keyblade and chase my friends through the worlds. You know how to live in the worlds. Live. Not just survive. A skill I... don’t know if I can learn at this point.”
While he talked, we headed downstream, looking for the cave. I held my keyblade at the ready, raising it over my head to cast its light as far as I could. In the event of something happening, I could hold my own long enough for Riku to drop our sleeping bags and back me up. I wasn’t totally useless.
I glanced at him, a sympathetic crease wrinkling my forehead. “Riku...”
He chuckled. “There. Was that so hard?”
“I...”
“C’mon. Up ahead.” He nodded forward and picked up his pace.
“Slow down!” I protested, jogging to catch up.
We reached the cave---a loose connection of rocks a few yards away from the stream bank. Riku unrolled our sleeping bags and climbed into his. Once I was in mine, I let my keyblade disappear in a flash of light. “This should keep us dry. We’re uphill from the stream too so it won’t flood. Night.”
“G’night.”
*****
“It was Mickey,” a voice said.
I jolted awake. “Huh?”
“You asked if I was ever going to talk to you about the nightmares,” Riku commented. I unzipped my sleeping bag and sat up. The sound of rain striking the forest filled my ears. I watched him silently, letting him speak when he was ready. “Sometimes the nightmares are memories. It was when I saw Mickey get hit by a Demon Tower---a swarm of Heartless that swirl together like a fast, extremely agile cyclone. It happened. When we were looking for Master Aqua. For a horrifying moment, I thought he was gone. The image of that---and the fear that I’d lose such a close friend---it’s never left me.”
He was sitting on his sleeping bag, staring out of the mouth of the cave at the morning storm. His hair was slightly longer than it had been when we first met. He brushed it out of his eyes.
“Oh,” I said. I wanted to reach out---to set my hand on his shoulder and assure him that the past was in the past and he and Mickey were both safe. But I didn’t. It would sound fake and insincere no matter how much I meant it if he didn’t believe I was telling the truth.
He grunted as he shuffled his position. “I think the training we had planned is gonna get postponed,” he said. “I ache and don’t want either of us to get sick by sparring in the rain.”
“Is there... anything I can do to help?”
“Nope. No amount of healing potions or spells make this feel better. Just have to wait out the storm.” He winced and leaned against the wall. “That’s... what I get for fighting.” The reassuring smile he tried to give me was more like a grimace.
“Just... get some rest. Have you eaten?”
“Not yet. I was gonna see how I felt---eat after a sparring session like usual. But I’m not up for sparring this morning.”
“Good,” I said, finding my pack and digging out some breakfast. “Because I wasn’t in the mood for getting my butt kicked for the thousandth time.” My flat sarcasm wasn’t lost on him the way Sora might have missed it.
Riku laughed. “Hey, you’re doing a lot better,” he said. “I’m not going super easy on you anymore.” He accepted the food I handed him. “Thanks.”
I snorted. “Yeah right. You still go really easy on me.”
“No not really. Not as much as I did when you first started and all I did was defend and give you easy attacks to defend against.”
“How comforting.”
He chuckled. Then went quiet while he ate. I munched on some breakfast too.
We sat in silence for nearly an hour. I could tell by the light outside getting brighter as the sun rose behind the clouds. Not that it got much brighter since the clouds were blocking the sunlight.
Riku’s breathing was deep and rhythmic. He was snoozing against the wall.
I slid out of the cave and conjured my keyblade. Might as well run some drills. Nothing too difficult.
I started swinging my keyblade, mocking defensive blocks and slashing attacks. It whooshed through the air, sending arcs of rainbows through the rain around it. The drops plunked off the metal of my weapon with small, barely-audible clinking sounds.
I wondered if what happened to Riku would happen to me. Injuries that ached in the rain and nightmares of the horrors I’d seen.
I paused, stabbing my key into the ground and leaning against the hilt, gazing into the cave.
How had Riku gone through so much---most of it he wouldn’t even tell me about---and still manage to keep his light? He was arrogant at times, sure, but he was kind and light-hearted too. He never raised his voice at me in anger---just out of practicality if I couldn’t hear him over the ringing of our keyblades---and always treated me with respect.
It was why I admired him so much.
I shook my head, letting water fling off the ends of the baby hairs around my face, and went back to my drill. I needed to practice my footwork---it was still sloppy...
“You’re gonna get sick!” Riku called from the cave.
I shrieked in surprise and slipped on the wet grass, landing on my butt with an, “Oof!”
He laughed. “Come back in here and dry off. You can train later.”
“I’m not that wet,” I said, picking myself back to my feet but following his orders anyway. The shoulders of my jacket were mildly damp but that was it. I pulled my jacket off to reveal my tank top underneath so the jacket could dry. I shivered and then shook my head. I was fine. I was tougher than that.
“Here.” Riku pulled something out of his pack and handed it to me.
A spare jacket.
I drowned in it since he was a lot taller than I was, but it was warm. “Thanks,” I said.
He nodded.
I pulled his jacket tighter around my body. It was super soft. That wasn’t fair. Why were his jackets warmer than mine?
“Was it worth it?” he teased.
“Yes. We all need a warmup. How are you feeling?” I curled my knees up to my chest, wrapped my arms around them, and stared at Riku. He met my gaze with a question in his eyes. “Your aches. Your old injuries.”
“Oh yeah. They’re fine. Just aching,” he said, rubbing his chest in the same place he did last night when he said the storm was coming. “Hopefully you’ll be better at this whole thing than I am. I just...” He shrugged. “I was an idiot when I was first learning and really bad at blocking. Especially here.” He leaned off the wall and lifted his shirt to reveal a scar across his lower back. “Took a hit directly from Xemnas to protect Sora.”
I giggled as he pulled his shirt back down.
“What’s so funny?” Riku asked.
I shrugged. “You’re... it’s just... I’ve noticed that you’re the protective one of the three of you.”
“I am n---... okay maybe yeah I am,” he relented.
I laughed, curling a little tighter to keep my warmth inside Riku’s jacket. “It’s something I admire about you, Riku. You’ve always fought for the strength to protect the people that matter to you and... you’ve sacrificed yourself for Sora... so many times. I...” I shook my head. “I dunno. I admire that a lot. You’re... a lot stronger than I am.”
“Strength comes in different kinds. Mine is physical. Yours is... I don’t know if I’m remotely qualified to assign you your strength. I see you as emotionally strong. And mentally,” Riku said.
“Listen to us. Having a philosophical discussion when we could be talking about... literally anything else,” I said with a smile. “Get some rest, Riku. We can always talk later.”
He nodded and leaned his head back against the wall. “’Kay. Wake me when the rain stops.”
I glanced out the cave opening. “Yeah okay.” My sarcasm wasn’t lost on him. He knew I didn’t think the rain was going to let up soon---and even if it did, he deserved the rest so I most definitely wasn’t going to wake him up. He’d been pushing himself more than me in training so I wanted him to sleep.
He smirked but didn’t say anything. Just rested.
*****
“Clever, I’ll admit,” Riku said, parrying my swing, quickly delivering a blow to my spine with the wooden practice weapons we were using. “But not clever enough.”
I hissed in pain and rubbed my back. “One of these days, Mas---Riku---I’m gonna best you.”
“I don’t doubt it,” he said jokingly. “You’re smart. You’re good at the outwit part of combat. You just gotta work at some of the other parts. Like defense. But mostly offense. Wanna try again?”
I sighed. “Gimme a sec. Then I will. For now... ouch.”
“Sorry. Probably got a little too enthusiastic.”
“It’s fine.” I shook my head.
“Consider it a compliment. You’re putting up enough of a fight that I forget to hold back.”
“Thanks.” The throb from the whack eased out and faded to a dull ache that quickly vanished. I readied my practice weapon again. “Let’s go.”
Riku smirked and took his ready stance. “If you think you can handle it.”
I laughed. “I’m not Sora. You can’t scare me into panic.” I swung my practice keyblade. We rarely trained with real ones for safety. The wooden practice keyblades were lighter than real ones, but I made sure to practice alone with my real weapon whenever I had the chance.
“Fair enough,” he said, blocking my swing outright instead of deflecting it. I had no idea how he was strong enough to dead stop my swings. But he did it a lot. I had to deflect and parry because if I tried to halt his slashing dead, I’d break something from the force. Probably my wrist.
We sparred for several minutes---maybe, time was difficult to tell while swinging oversized keys in an otherwise empty forest. I was trying my hardest but still couldn’t manage to beat him.
Well. He was the Master for a reason. I was just the student.
“Hyah!” I cried out, flipping my wooden keyblade into a backhanded grip and rolled with his slash, using my keyblade to protect my arm from getting hit, before shoving him with my elbow into a tree and flipping into a forward grip and leveling my weapon at his throat. “Yield!”
His back against the tree, he smirked. “Not bad. I’m impressed,” he said, blue-green eyes sparkling with humor.
He swung and knocked my keyblade away with his, pushing off the tree and attacking with renewed vigor. “But you still have some work to do. Disarm me next time.”
I growled in frustration at forgetting about the disarming and went on defense, parrying and deflecting slashes and stabs until I could find the flow of the fight again. Once I got the flow, I took control. Just like he taught me. “You’re gonna---have to---mind how you---instruct me on---things like that,” I said between Clack!s of our weapons.
“Meaning?”
“Disarm---doesn’t just mean---‘remove you from your keyblade.’ As you said---my strength is emotional. I could emotionally and---mentally disarm you while---leaving your hilt---still in your hand.”
Riku chuckled. “Do I dare ask you to prove that?”
“I don’t know. That’s up to you. I respect you too much---to prove it though.”
There it was. My opening. He made a sloppy move.
I smacked the inside of his wooden keyblade with mine and twisted, effectively knocking the weapon out of his hand. He cheered for me even as I whirled and hit him in the knee, sending him sprawling to the ground. I landed next to him, one knee on his chest and my blade leveled at his face.
“Yield!”
He laughed and put up his hands in surrender. “Gladly,” he said. “Not bad. I’m proud of you.”
I smiled and climbed off of him, offering him a hand to help him up.
But, like the totally mature Keyblade Master he was, he yanked me down to land on the ground---knocking my face into his shoulder with an, “Oof!” and a sigh of frustration. “Was that really necessary?”
“Yeah,” he decided. “Gotta live it up sometimes.”
I lifted my face from his shoulder and glared. His eyes were shining with laughter through his silver-white bangs. I couldn’t help but smile and laugh along with him though. “Guess I deserved that for assuming you were gonna fight fair.”
“There’s no such thing as a fair fight outside training. It’s always, ‘do whatever it takes to win’.”
“I’ll bear that in mind.”
“Now. About that emotionally and mentally disarming,” he continued. “What did you mean?”
“I was meaning there are ways to surprise one’s opponent into ceasing their attack because their brain stops functioning,” I said. “I’ve done it to Sora before---making a joke that makes him laugh so hard he can’t swing his keyblade.”
Riku smirked. “Fair enough. What were you thinking though? What do you think would emotionally disarm me? Sora and I have quite different personalities.”
“Different personalities and senses of humor maybe, but there is one area where you’re both totally incompetent. I am too but at least I know how to manipulate it.”
“And what area is that?”
“Oh no. I’m not giving away any strategies that easily. What if one day you and I find ourselves on the opposite sides of a battlefield?” I said.
“You really think that would happen?”
“No but I can never be too sure.” I pushed myself up back to my feet.
“Ever the strategist.”
“I try.” I smiled. “C’mon. Weren’t we gonna try to make it to Corona’s castle by nightfall to see Rapunzel and Eugene?”
“Yeah. Let’s go.” He jumped up and we packed everything up to continue our hike.
*****
“Riku---Riku you have to fight it!” I pleaded, fending off his attacks while barely able to see through my own tears. “Riku! This isn’t darkness! This is just magic! Someone’s taken hold of you! You have to shake them off!”
He whaled on me, never once letting up in a flurry of offensive attacks. The dullness in his eyes gave away the fact that he wasn’t in control. I’d never seen his eyes so blank. Normally they were expressive and vibrant. Seeing them so flat hurt my heart.
“Riku, please!” I begged.
No change.
Except he paused. Just long enough to give me a chance to switch from defense to offense. I returned his attacks in a faster manner. He was strong, but I was faster than he was. I’d watched Terra and Ven spar often enough that I knew the two opposites made for interesting fights.
I forced him back, until he bumped into a wall, and knocked Braveheart---his keyblade---out of his hand. It clattered to the floor and disappeared in a flash. I forced his hands against the wall, restraining him.
“Alright, pretty boy, let’s see if this emotional disarmament is enough to throw the magic out of your system,” I muttered.
Before he could do anything, I leaned up onto my tiptoes since he was so much taller than me and kissed him.
He stopped struggling against me, going completely still.
I pulled away.
He stared at me as shadows oozed out of him and shot into the sky. His eyes returned to normal. “What... what happened?” he asked.
I shrugged. “I emotionally disarmed you long enough that you threw off the magic controlling you,” I said.
“How?”
“Not telling. Might have to do it again.” I smirked and turned to head back to the Gummiship.
Riku caught my elbow. “Do that again and I’m transferring the rest of your training to Master Aqua,” he whispered. Oh---so he did know what I’d done. He’d just been giving me the chance to tell the truth.
“Look, I know it was inappropriate since I’m the mentee and you’re the mentor but if I hadn’t you probably would have beaten me and who knows what you would have gone off to do while under someone else’s control.” I pulled my elbow out of his grip. “Don’t expect me to apologize for my actions. I’ll apologize for being inappropriate and I am sorry for that. But I’m not sorry for stopping you from wreaking havoc.”
“I wasn’t going to ask you to. And I wasn’t going to... I didn’t mean it the way you thought I did,” he said.
“Is that so?” I let my keyblade disappear in a flash. “Threatening to send me to another master to finish my training sounds like you’re mad at what I did.”
“I’m not. I’m grateful, actually. You helped me get rid of the magic possessing me. But I meant...” He sighed. “You’re right. It’s not appropriate for a trainer to kiss their trainee. Meaning if I ever wanted to kiss you again, I couldn’t be your trainer anymore. I...” He shook his head. “Let’s head back.” He strode ahead of me, heading for the Gummiship.
I was completely frozen for a second. “Hey wait!” I called, jogging to catch up. “What were you going to say?” I caught up and grabbed his elbow just above his gauntlet. “Riku?”
“Ventus gave you the power of the keyblade because he believes in you. And he trusted me to train you. I can’t let any feelings get in the way of betraying that trust.” He jogged ahead.
“F... feelings?” I slowed to a slow walk while my brain processed. He had feelings for me? “Riku!” I ran forward, chasing him to the Gummiship.
The second I was on board, I heard a familiar voice. “---course I’d be willing to take over her training but... why do I need to?”
Aqua.
I heard Riku sigh from somewhere in the Gummiship. Not too far from the entrance---which was closing after I boarded it.
“Because I went and did something dumber than usual and fell for her.”
Aqua’s gentler laughter echoed in the empty ship. “Well. Drop her by Radiant Garden next chance you two get and I’d be happy to finish out her training. It’d be good practice for me, too---since Terra, Ven, and I thinking of taking on students. Once Ven passes his Mark of Mastery.”
Riku chuckled. “Thanks Aqua. I just... I don’t want...”
“I understand, Riku. There are lines that we shouldn’t cross.”
“Yeah. See ya soon.”
“Bye.”
There was a little beep as Riku hung up. I peeked into the bridge. Riku was leaning against the pilot’s seat with one shoulder, other hand putting his Gummiphone away in his pocket. His eyes were closed and there was a sigh in his posture. “Real feelings?” I asked.
He jumped. “Don’t... scare me like that! I coulda... hurt you!”
“Sorry. But you didn’t answer my questions. Your feelings are real? For... for me?”
“Yeah. Dumb I know.”
“No! It’s not. To tell you the truth, I kinda liked you before you started training me. You were always so nice to Ventus and acknowledged my existence when I was around with him after he became my friend. No one else ever really does that. I’m just a friend of a friend. Always. So... you were always kind to me. And... I liked you. Still do.”
Riku looked me dead in the face. “I hereby formally withdraw my responsibilities as your primary trainer and Keyblade Master,” he said, “and transfer those responsibilities to Master Aqua.”
I nodded. “I accept your withdrawal and transfer,” I said.
He pushed off the pilot seat and approached me. He was tall so I had to look up to maintain eye contact when he got so close to me we were almost touching. “You’ve emotionally disarmed me. Completely. I’ve never felt like this before.”
“If you want to kiss me, all you have to do is ask.”
“Can I?”
“Of course.” I lifted up onto my tiptoes so he wouldn’t have to bend down as far.
He stooped and pressed his lips to mine. I met him with fervor.

In My Head
Tumblr media
(Soulmate AU: You hear your soulmates thoughts but can’t tell them your name or what you look like.)
(OFC X Cisco Ramon)
I’d heard him since my twelfth birthday, my soulmate. People could begin to hear them at any point in their lives as long as both soulmates where over the age of five. No one really understood how it worked or why some people started hearing soulmates on their fifth birthday and some didn’t hear them until they were in their nineties. The only thing anyone knew for sure outside the age requirements is if one could hear their soulmate, their soulmate could hear them. Oh and of course there where the rules.
Soulmates rules where considered to be as real and unbreakable as the laws of physics, or as unbreakable as they had been before Meta Humans had started running around. Rule One: One could not tell their soulmates their name. Rule Two: One could not tell their soulmate their age. Rule Three: One could not describe themselves to their soulmate. Rule Four: One could not tell their soulmate their location (Discussing future locations could work but no dates or times). Rule Five: One could not block out their soulmate.
The rules where not the only things making finding ones soulmate hard; people could of course fall in love with people who weren’t their soulmate whether they could hear them or not. It wasn’t uncommon for people to wake up one day able to hear their soulmates only to find their soulmates where happily married and soulmate or not they were not willing to leave their marriage or their kids. Many people who ended on the unhappy side of these situations would end up taking their own lives within the year. This had prompted the invention of a device that could severe a soulmate connection; this severance could end very badly and had been banned in most countries, but some desperate people still found a way when needed.
Kat had begun hearing her soulmate at twelve; she’d nicknamed him Westley after learning his obsession with the movie Princess Bride. In response he’d tried to nickname her Buttercup, that hadn’t ended well. After a few weeks of arguing he’d come up with the nickname Starlight, he would never tell her why.
Westley was an interesting guy, way too smart for his own good sometimes, hilarious, obsessed with pop culture, sassy as all hell, and very good at reading people, even when they were simply a voice in his head. His favorite color is purple although that does tend to change weekly, his favorite Pokémon is Bulbasaur, and he really likes superheroes.
Kat had decided not long after meeting him in her head the first time that she would find him someday. Of course the particle accelerator blowing up had put a damper on that for a while. When ones soulmate died the other wouldn’t know it, they would simply stop responding to you.
When the particle accelerator had blown up, Kat had been thrown through a window by the dark matter blast, her injuries resulting in a yearlong coma. When she had woken up it had taken a few weeks for the connection to reactivate and Westley had flipped out. He’d thought she had died. Kat hadn’t told him why she had been in a coma for so long not wanting him to know she was a Meta human, scared of what he’d think.
She’d woken up a Meta human nearly five years ago now, and had yet to meet Westley in person. He’d dated on and off during that time, hesitantly but excitedly telling her about his current relationship as he always had in high school. Kat had also dated of course but not as recently. At nearly thirty she just wanted to meet Westley in real life, she had fallen in love with him years ago, although she’d never tell him that. He was her closest friend, for obvious reasons.
‘Morning, Starlight, what are you up too today?’ Kat smiles shaking her head as she slips a strand of brown hair behind her ear.
‘Coffee at the shop, while I work on my book.’ She responds sipping her medium flash with vanilla bean creamer.
‘I’m getting coffee right now, maybe this is the day we’ll meet?’ Westley responds excitedly.
‘Of course, you’ll trip and spill coffee on me like in all the cliché fanfictions your always telling me to read on Tumblr.’ Kat snickers.
‘What makes you think I’ll be the one spilling the coffee? Who says it wouldn’t be the other way around?”
‘Because for one, I’m sitting down, and two even if I was walking I’m more coordinated then you.’
‘Are not! You trip over everything!’
‘Exactly and your still a bigger klutz, that’s my point.’
‘Well I never.’ He huffs mockingly laughing lightly. Kat snickers smiling at the laugh. The day passed as usual she spent her morning at Jitters working on her book interrupted every twenty minutes or so by Westley making a joke or asking her something. Her afternoon was spent working on tech for her company, Sparrow Technologies.
‘I just looked at the sky and thought of you, my Starlight.’ Kat lets out a small snort at the pickup line she’d heard a million times before.
‘I like the line and all Westley, but you need new ones.’
‘As you wish.’ Kat lets out another laugh causing people to glance at her; she bows her head with a blush.
‘Shut up, you’re making people stare at me.’
‘Oh am I?’ That mischievous tone is one Kat knows well, and it spells trouble. ‘Hmm maybe I should just look up something to read to you then?’
           ‘Don’t you…’
‘Here we go, the five times Luke walked in on Han and Leia and he one time they walked in on him, this will be a most interesting read wouldn’t you say, Starlight?’
‘Westley, I swear to god!’ Kat groans her face a bright red as she wishes for the line to move faster or for her obnoxious soulmate to shut the fuck up.
‘Luke was bored, he wanted to go for a ride in the Falcon, but Han was not where to be found. Oh well he would just go for his ride and Han would never need to know… as he entered the Falcon he found something a strange, a random black boot sat in the doorway as if thrown there. Shrugging he steps inside more clothing where spread down the hall leading to the cockpit… oh double meaning!’ Westley reads dramatically clearly getting a huge kick out of her annoyance and protests.
“A large flash to go with vanilla bean creamer please.” Kat orders doing her best to keep a straight face.”
‘Luke’s eyes widened as he froze in place, in the captain’s chair was his twin sister, in far less clothing then he’d ever seen before, on top of her was his best friend in a similar state of dress. “Oh, Han, yes!” Luke quickly turned on his heel running for his life wishing he hadn’t seen that!’
‘Westley that’s gross, knock it off!’
‘It is pretty badly written, I’m sure you could write it better!’ Westley laughs.
‘Would you shut up, you damn idi…’ Kat’s train of thought is derailed as a dagger spins past her face lodging in the counter in front of her. It glowed with a golden orange. Kat spins around in time to see a person in a black coat with a hood and mask standing in the doorway as people start screaming around her. The person holds out a black clad hand the dagger spinning from the counter into it.
Kat takes a step back; she drops her coffee clenching her fist silver sparks crackle around it for half a second before suddenly failing. Why weren’t her powers working?
‘Starlight?’ Before she can answer the dagger is spinning towards her, just before it can hit she is tackled to the ground by a dark skinned woman with long black hair.
“Are you okay?” The woman asks quickly.
“Y… yeah, I think so.” Kat nods moving to her feet, pulling her gun from her ankle holder as she does, the dagger spins back across the coffee shop into the monstrous Meta’s hand.
“It’s time for you to die.” The Meta says stalking towards them. Kat drags the woman who saved her to the side as the dagger spins towards them again. She raises her gun.
“Back off.” The Meta throws the dagger again, Kat opens fire, one bullet bounces off the dagger sending it off course, the Meta quickly dodges the other.
“Are you a Meta human?” The woman from before asks Kat. “She’s after Meta’s that’s the new Cicada.” Kat blinks at her looking back at the woman firing two more rounds that miss, embedding in the now empty of patrons shop walls.
           “Yes, I am.” Kat admits.
“Leave them alone.” A vibrating voice joins the madness as a red steak appears in front of them, less than a foot away stood the Flash. Westley would be having a field day right now if he where there, he loved Meta Heroes.
“Good, I can kill you too.” A purple blur suddenly shows and the next thing Kat knows she is being set down in what looks like a lab of some type. Computer monitors surround her. The woman from the shop quickly rushes over to a computer talking to the Flash through a headpiece. Moments later XS and the Flash are standing in front of her.
“Are you okay?” Flash asks gently taking her gun from her hands. Kat blinks still processing where she is.
“Um… I… uh,” Kat runs a hand through the back of her short hair nervously, when did her hands start shaking? “I think so… where am I?”
“This is Star Labs; we brought you here to get away from Cicada.” The woman speaks up. Kat slowly nods.
“Okay… why the hell is this Cicada after me in the first place?”
“She wants all Meta humans dead.” XS explains.
“How would she even know I’m a Meta? No one and I mean literally no one knew but me before tonight.” Kat protests crossing her arms.
“The dagger she was using has the power to block powers, it glows when near a Meta human, you probably where just in the wrong place at the wrong time.” Flash explains. Kat nods frowning.
“Then what the hell am I supposed to do?”
“We’ve gotten most of the Meta’s out of the city and into hiding?” A woman with long brown hair says entering the room followed by a man who Kat was pretty positive was Harrison Wells, which made no sense as he’d been dead for four years, a tall dark skinned man, the DA, Elongated Man, and Vibe… who was another person Kat thought was dead.
“I can’t just up and disappear.” Kat protests looking around at the super heroes in front of her.
“Protective custody is your best shot.” The man suggests stepping forwards and showing her his badge, Detective Joseph West, the DA’s husband and the head of the Meta task force at the CCPD, she’d met him once after the particle accelerator had blown up.
“If this lady is after Meta’s then why haven’t all of you left?” Kat challenges motioning to the Meta heroes.
“Because we’re trying to stop Cicada and this is out home.” Elongated Man says.
“Exactly, this is your home. Central City is my home; I’m not going to run away because some new psycho with a thing for leather and hypocrisy wants me dead.”
“If you don’t go you’ll die. We can’t protect you all the time.” Flash argues.
“I can protect myself.” Kat shakes her head.
“Your powers won’t work around Cicada.” The DA speaks up.
“I wasn’t referring to my powers, and if powers don’t work against them, then I’m on an even playing field as all of you.”
“We’re not going to be able to convince you are we?” Flash sighs shoulders slumping a bit.
“Nope.” Flash shares a look with the woman from Jitters and XS two blurs disappearing down the hall, followed by everyone but Detective West. The two stand there awkwardly for a few minutes before the group enters again.
“I’m Iris, this is Caitlin and Sherloque.” The woman from Jitters introduces herself motioning to the brown haired lady and the Harrison Wells look alike. “That’s Cecille,” She motions to the DA. “And I’m sure you know who the different heroes are?”
           “I do.”
           “What’s your name?” Flash asks.
“Katrina Sparrow, most people call me Kat.” Kat introduces herself smirking when she sees the Flash’s eyes widen.
“The CEO and founder of Sparrow Tech?” She nods with a snort.
           “Yup.”
“Oh…” XS says eyes wide, looking surprised. A few people look at her questioningly; she shakes her head at them with the universal gesture for later.
“What are your powers?” Detective West asks.
“Do I have immunity for anything I say here?” Kat clarifies narrowing her eyes at him. “I’m not a criminal but I’d rather not regret this little meeting later?”
“Of course.” Cecille speaks up, smiling at her.
“Any of you heard of the vigilante people are calling Starlight?”
           “Yeah.” Iris nods.
“You’re looking at her.” Kat gestures to herself.
“But you look nothing like her?” Elongated Man says shocked. Kat snorts. She pushes a few buttons on her watch; thin strands of metal quickly cover her body from her watch, her belt and her glasses. A simple black suit covers her, silver specks shimmering throughout. Metal wraps around her glasses turning them more into a mask. She clenches her fists then opens them, shimmering silver sparks quickly spread over the suit making the effect look like a shimmering night sky full of stars, her hair floats up a bit turning shimmering silver, her brown eyes quickly turning a soft silver. “Whoa…”
“That’s amazing.” Flash laughs. XS is grinning now looking beyond excited.
“Okay, that’s cool.” Detective West says pointing at her.
“That’s wicked.” Vibe laughs grinning; he’d been silent so far looking at her as if trying to figure something out. Kat’s eyes snap to him. She knew why he’d been staring at her now… his voice she recognized it… she’d heard it every day since she was twelve.
“Well since we know your identity it’s only fair.” Flash shrugs looking at the others who nod. He removes his mask, and holds a hand out to her, his brown hair now free from the rubber. “Barry Allen.” Kat looks at his hand having to drag her eyes away from Vibe. She shakes his hand.
           “Nice to meet you.”
“This is Nora, Ralph, and Cisco.” Barry motions in order to XS, Elongated Man, and Vibe. Kat looks Vibe over without his glasses, he was cute, Hispanic, with flowing black hair, a kind smile. Kat deactivates her suit, letting her powers subside her hair and eyes quickly changing back to normal.
“Well, Kat if you won’t leave we’ll have to figure something out.” Barry says smiling at her.
“You could join team Flash?” Nora speaks up stepping forward smiling hopefully at Barry. “You’d make a great addition!” Kat raises an eyebrow.
“Nora, a word please?” Iris speaks up. The two step out Barry following.
“So, Starlight? I see where you get the name.” Cisco approaches Kat as the rest of the group follow Nora seemingly to join the conversation Kat can hear getting heated in the hallway.
“I had the nickname long before I became a Meta.” Kat eyes him up and down. “But I think you’d figured that out… Westley?” Cisco breaks into a grin.
“I thought I recognized your voice.”
“I recognized yours as soon as you spoke.” Kat laughs. “But to be sure.” She holds her hand out to him. Cisco takes her hand hesitantly. A slight jolt shots up Kat’s arm.
‘So Westley, my name is Kat… holy shit, it is you!’ Kat thinks to him slowly grinning as she realizes the rules were gone. When a person first made physical contact with their soulmate after their connection was made the rules would break allowing them to talk more freely from then on.
‘I can’t believe it’s really you…’ Cisco thinks back grinning just as widely. “It’s wonderful to finally meet you, Starlight. I’m Francisco Ramon, I’m your soulmate.” Cisco says out load.
“It’s wonderful to meet you too, Cisco.”

My Necessarily Unnecessary Analysis of Lightning Dust (EPISODE SPOILERS)
So, I watched the Washouts last night, and there are a few things I’d like to get off my chest.  Please keep in mind that most of these are about how I myself interpret Lightning Dust’s character, and you can choose to interpret her how I like.  Heck, I have a whole AU story interpreting her as an AI infected by a virus that made her try to kill Rainbow Dash once, so that should show you how off-the-wall my interpretations should get.
Anyway, back in the canon world.  I’m not sure if I really like (or subscribe to) the theory that Lightning planned everything as an elaborate revenge scheme against Rainbow Dash.  The whole dynamic between RD and LD near the beginning/middle of the episode was gold, and it’s not something we see with MLP rivals all too often.  A lot of times we get relationships like Twilight/Trixie, Twilight/Starlight, and so on--ones where both parties genuinely seem to dislike each other.  A ton of LD fics predicted that she’d be the same way towards Dash, but this actually makes their relationship stand out a ton more for me.  I’m a sucker for the Friendly Rivals trope, but having Lightning do what she did in order to get revenge would really simplify her character to some kind of Rainbow Dash/Trixie fusion, IMO.  I find it a lot more fun to have her really stand by the fact that she got rejected from the Wonderbolts and see it as water under the bridge, and even more fun that Rainbow’s that laid-back about it.  She only really “opposes” Lightning when she tries to get Scootaloo involved, and fangirls all over her before then.  It really reminds me of what Gilda and Rainbow had in S1, and I find it immensely interesting that the most “competitive” pony seems to have the most low-key rivalries.  I hypothesize that’s because the mare already loves friendly competition so much, she can’t really go too deep into the “hating” scale of things.
So if Lightning didn’t rope Scootaloo in out of revenge, why did she do it?  I have a few theories, one of which came to me as I was reading @marvelandponder‘s excellent episode analysis.  My first speculation is that Lightning isn’t just reckless, she doesn’t even really have a sense of danger to begin with.  She knows that things are dangerous, but that only really seems to come after the fact (i.e. when she apologizes for the tornado).  This can be differentiated from ponies like Twilight Velvet, adrenaline junkies who go on special trips to fulfill their need, but otherwise live very ordinary lives.  Even IRL professional stuntspeople can be very concerned with safety, something that Lightning regularly dismisses.  Now, there are brain conditions that interfere with someone’s ability to sense fear, and hence danger, but they’re extremely rare IRL and I’ll apply that same logic to LD.  We don’t really know why she goes to extremes, pardon my Billy Joel referencing, but what we do know is that she does, and for whatever reason, can’t comprehend the effect it has on others.
So that opens us up to one theory: for whatever reason, the whole idea that “strapping a filly to an untested rocket you probably bought from Trixie’s backalley operation” doesn’t register to her as something to fear.  If anything, it’s something fun, a cool way to show off.  And that brings us to our second theory.
@marvelandponder has suggested that Scootaloo might not be a child in this episode--with the time inconsistencies MLP often has, she could be a preteen or even teen.  Placed in this context, Scootaloo’s stunt might make more sense--after all, adults dare younger people to do smaller-scale dangerous stunts all the time.  Think of the latest dumb YouTube challenge you’ve come across, and wonder why in the world some adult would come up with such an idea.  A lot of times, it might be out of sheer recklessness, but other times, it might just be to develop a following or to look cool to the kids.  This is where, I feel, Lightning lines up.
Even if she doesn’t hate Dash, I think it’s highly possible she still has some desire to beat her in something.  At the beginning of the episode, Lightning outright rejects Scootaloo’s request to join the Washouts and says “you’re cute” in a way that suggests she’s aware of how young Scoots is.  If anything, that remark’s infantilizing her even more.  (Not that that’s a bad thing--the term “Cutealoo” exists for a reason.)  But once Rainbow takes her out to see Spitfire, Lightning’s tone noticeably changes.  Something about Dash protecting Scootaloo sets her off--and while some fans think it’s out of blind hatred, I feel it’s something else.  Throughout the rest of the episode, Lightning treats Scootaloo as a grown pony, and with how reckless she is, I can’t help but feel that maybe, just maybe, she went through something similar in her adolescence.  She probably was super rebellious and had a lot of adults tell her no, so maybe then she realized that she could beat Rainbow at being the “cool older friend.”  The one who never tells on you, who lets you do anything.
Does this excuse her actions?  Hell no.  A lot of times, having one of these “cool adult friends” can lead to all kinds of trouble down the road, and adults absolutely should step in to make sure minors don’t get into too much trouble.  But it helps flesh it out a little more than just having her be a one-dimensional villain who did it for the evils.  She very well could have seen it as “would I have wanted to try this stunt out at her age” and, knowing Lightning’s personality, the answer would have definitely been “yes.”
So no, I wouldn’t say LD is a villain.  I’d compare her to a deadbeat parent from a comedy movie.  The one who’s still barely more than a child themselves, who tries so hard to be “cool” and appeal to their child that they go in the other direction, with a ton of hijinks and stunts involved.  A character from a bad Adam Sandler movie, if you will.  Reckless, foolhardy, and dangerous to children, but you can’t really call them evil.  They just need a ton of straightening out, a lot of growing up to do, and a good smack upside the head if neither of that works.
Hey, it’s better than a FULL BODY HOOF AND WING CAST, right?

SM 200 Psuedo-Rewrite
For @keyofjetwolf, happy belated Xmas!
So, this is an idea that I’ve had floating around in my head since Jet finished liveblogging the Sailor Moon Classic anime. After seeing how unhappy with the endings she was (though, I mean, who wasn’t?), my brain started picking it apart to see what could be changed to make it better and before I knew it, I had 2600 words of a psuedo-rewrite written up.
A couple things you should know before continuing: this is written very much with Jet in mind. As such, there’s a lot things in here that cater to her very specific tastes. If you absolutely didn’t like her liveblog of Stars, you’re not going to like this rewrite, so please follow the age-old adage: don’t like, don’t read. However, there are also some of my own personal headcanons thrown in (largely because headcanons are the only way to make any of this make sense, let’s be honest) as well as some of my preferences for things that I wasn’t sure about Jet’s opinion on.
Also, you’ll notice that I call this a pseudo-rewrite. That’s because, firstly, this is more an outline then an actual fic. Second, I knew that if ever wanted to get this out, I had to try to stick to the general story they told in Stars, because otherwise the rewrite would get way too complicated and I would never do anything. As such, I tried to change the things that I think desperately needed to change, ignored the things that didn’t really have an impact on the story, and keep the few ideas that I thought were good but poorly executed.
TL;DR This is written for Jet; if you don’t like her Stars liveblog, don’t read. This is an outline, not a fic. It’s not a complete rewrite, a lot of the stuff is similar to the original.
I started from the end and worked my way back to try to find a way to make certain things work until I eventually ended up at the beginning of this AU, with the biggest change:
Crow lives.
Because Usagi is love and before she also gets swallowed up by the black hole she sees Crow in pain and sees how she gave up and she can’t leave her behind, so when Chibi Chibi grabs her, before she passes out, she grabs Crow.
No one is happy about this except Usagi. Including Crow who was quite ready to die.
She goes to the stay at the Shrine because Rei insists. The “if you’re going to do something so fucking stupid, Usagi, I’m going to protect you from yourself” is left unsaid but definitely not unheard.
Time moves on mostly the same for most of the episodes. Crow keeps herself distant from the Senshi. Sometimes she gives them info, most of the time she doesn’t talk. She’s slightly more willing to talk to Usagi but it’s obvious that every moment with Usagi is causing her extra pain and so they still aren’t long. The only one she talks to at all, the only one she even vaguely opens up to, is Grandpa Hino. (It’s almost like he’s used to making difficult women open up to him and talk to him.) Rei is super not happy about this. Grandpa Hino doesn’t tell her why he tries so hard, why he cares for Crow so. Because he has now seen what Rei would look like if she broke and he doesn’t want to ever know what’s that like.
And then the world ends.
The Outer Senshi ignore Crow, which is the best you can hope for from them. The Inner Senshi deliberately do not ask her to fight. This is their battle, not hers. She does not offer. They go to face Galaxia and Crow stays behind with Grandpa Hino.
I genuinely cannot decide which Inners death I enjoy most, the original or this one, so take your pick, but here is another option in this AU: Crow arrives just before the Inners arrive. No one is more surprised than Crow. The bracelets, I headcanon, are connected to Galaxia and carry a piece of her in them. She always knew where Crow was and she didn’t care for a variety of reasons. One of those was that she knew Crow was suffering and that made her happy. Another was that if Crow was going to die she wanted to see it. And then there’s this opportunity and so she takes it and brings Crow to her and then possesses her (not brainwashed, oh no, that would be too kind; Crow is able to see everything that is happening but she can no longer control her body and she must watch as she destroys those that had dared to be kind to her). And Crow is the one who kills the Inners. Usagi, unaware of the possession, has to watch as someone she gave a second chance to, who she has come to care for, kills her friends. Then, as the possession leaves her, she falls to the ground, unconscious. Usagi crawls to each Senshi to say goodbye (because if we’re changing things, let’s fix that massive wtf), ending up at Rei for the exact scene from the anime because why mess with perfection? Galaxia gloats about how it was her along because she wants to take credit for Usagi’s suffering.
Or maybe it happens just like it did in the anime and Crow stays at the temple. Choose your own adventure and all that.
Everything continues the same because I would not touch a single second of the Outers vs Galaxia because not only would Doc kill me but because it is also perfect. The second to last episode where nothing fucking happens doesn’t exist at all because fuck that noise and the end of the original 199 now takes place at the beginning instead and everything that happens in 200 ends up in 199 instead and 200 is solely for happiness and healing and maybe a touch of angst and wrapping things up. But we’re not there yet because now come the big changes.
Everyone, by this point, has forgotten about Crow. She is either at the Temple or collapsed in Galaxia’s throne room, whichever you prefer, when the final showdown starts. Which is why everyone is shocked when she shows/gets up, so very angry, and ready to fuck up Galaxia because how dare Galaxia use her to hurt the few people to have shown her kindness. She grabs Chibi Chibi the Sword that Usagi had still been refusing to use and goes after Galaxia who easily bats her aside because Galaxia is way too powerful. She taunts Usagi, says that she will kill Crow if she does not pick up the sword and fight and Usagi has seen so very many people die today so she picks up the sword. And they fight. Galaxia is expecting to win. Why wouldn't she be? Usagi obviously doesn’t want to kill her, is in fact scared of using the sword. But she does not know Usagi, does not know that when a friend is on the line, even one as unfriendly as Crow, she will not lose, not when there is an option to win.
The Starlights are also there.
I personally headcanon that Galaxia is not brainwashed but rather corrupted and that there is no going back. Whatever was good and light about her has, over time, been twisted and corrupted until she is the sadist she appears and there is nothing good left in her to bring her back. Which is why Usagi does not reach her hand out in an attempt to save Galaxia because she can sense that there is nothing there that will reach back. Instead, she stabs her through with the sword. Because sometimes love alone isn’t enough. Because sometimes love and justice demand blood. Because even Usagi cannot make someone good who has no goodness left. Because Galaxia needs to die to protect the world and to protect Crow.
She doesn’t want to do it, feels sick just thinking about it, but she does it because sometimes that’s the only way. Because sometimes even saviors can’t save everyone.
But here’s the thing, even as Usagi drops the sword and falls to knees, relieved that it’s over, it’s not over. Because Crow’s bracelets carry a piece of Galaxia and so Galaxia, as she dies, forces her consciousness into Crow and possesses her body.
Crow stands from where she has fallen. And laughs. And everyone there recognizes it instantly because they have heard that laugh, so very many times now, as people have died around them.
Galaxia, in Crow’s body, the magic warping around her so that her outfit is Galaxia’s once again, summons her sword and it flies to her hand and with the type of smile on her face that says she is enjoying this only as someone who is cruel can, she tells Usagi to fight her. Usagi says no. Galaxia comes at her and Usagi holds the Chibi Chibi sword up in defense but she does not attack. She dodges and pleas with Galaxia to let Crow go and Galaxia tells her she will have to kill her and Usagi does not know what to do.
Usagi is injured several times. But still she refuses to attack. How can she? She killed (she feels sick at the thought) for Crow, how can she kill Crow now? Crow who has so broken and so alone and made her heart ache because there was something about her brokenness that terrified Usagi to her core.
Then Usagi holds up her sword to protect herself from Galaxia and this time the attack is too strong and Chibi Chibi the sword shatter and disappears. And, for a moment, it looks like Galaxia will win because Usagi has nothing. Except, Usagi does have something. Nine star seeds behind Galaxia start to shine. Usagi closes her eyes.
Usagi opens her eyes as she drops her henshin (naked and with wing is a good look, after all), because this isn’t a job for Sailor Moon and it’s not a job for a Princess or a Queen. This is a job for Usagi because fuck you, Galaxia, there has been enough blood spilled today and Usagi does what Usagi does best, she reaches out with her heart and hand to find a heart that has been surrounded by darkness and calls Crow’s name.
Galaxia’s sword shatters.
It is dark where Crow is, curled in a ball, broken and alone. Crow hears Usagi but cannot answer. She is stuck inside her head, watching everything that is happening and unable to stop it. Just like with Siren. There is nothing she can do, she is weak and worthless and she deserves to die and of course it will be her that kills this girl, this girl who believed in her when no one else did, this girl who doesn’t believe in killing but killed for her. Just like with Siren. And then, behind Usagi, she sees several figures appear. The Inner and Outer Senshi, arranged behind Usagi, reaching out their hands too, their voices whispering in her head that she doesn’t need to make this fight on her own. Just like with Siren. All she has to do is reach out, and they will do the rest. Just like with Siren.
She reaches. And, for a just a moment, a split second that passes so fast that if you blinked you would miss it, it is Siren that she is reaching toward.
And the scene switches to that of a possessed Crow grasping Usagi’s hand, light shining through and burning away the pieces of Galaxia that had clung to Crow like a disease and in a flash of light, there is only Crow standing there, all traces of Galaxia eradicated, including the bracelets that have sat on her wrists for so very long.
Crow’s Star Seed floats back to her, called home after far too long, as does another Star Seed, this one light blue and shining so brightly and so much like home that Crow’s arms are around Siren even as she’s still forming.
The Inner and Outer Senshi appear. There are hugs, so very many hugs and so very much crying, and the scene slowly pulls away until we are positioned behind a hugging Crow and Siren who are completely ignoring all the hugging that is going on in front of them but that the viewer can still see.
The Starlights are also there.
200 is about healing. Maybe it starts with Usagi waking up from having a nightmare about killing Galaxia and it’s not okay but maybe it’s a little okay because she is at the Shrine and everyone is sleeping near her and no one is dead and it hurts but she did the right thing and she drifts back to sleep. The Senshi go to see the Starlights off. Haruka hates every moment of it. Michiru enjoys every moment of it. Those are the only important parts. They go to see Crow and Siren off. They have taken responsibility of the Star Seeds and are going to get them back home, where they belong, and help heal as much as they can. Usagi says that there is no one better for this job than Crow and Siren. Crow mentions that it’s mostly Siren but she is smiling as she says so and she looks so happy that Usagi bursts into tears and tells them that they’d better figure out a way to keep in touch and then they too are gone. And then it’s just them. And some serious stuff happens. There’s Hotaru and Setsuna confronting Haruka and Michiru (they understand, they do, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt) and there’s the Inners trying to comfort each other because they’ve all been literally torn apart and died yet again and they remember it all and it’s horrible.
And, fuck it, this is my AU so this is an hour long episode because this is too much serious stuff but it needs to be here so in order to fit other things, bam!, it’s now an hour long. Because most of the episode is about healing, the sad stuff is sprinkled throughout happy stuff. A bunch of cute, good, friendship shit that you can probably picture better than I can so I’ll let you imagine it but at least one of those thing is Usagi pulling out a photo album and spending a truly long time looking at each and every picture of Chibiusa, which all still exist, proof (hopefully) that the future hasn’t changed too much. (And, okay, maybe this is also a little sad but it’s also happy dammit and I need Chibiusa to be in here someway.) There are scenes where the Senshi spend time with friends and family (but together, always together, they can’t bear to be apart for long at the moment, maybe in a few days but not right now, not when everything still hurts so much.)
And the scene ends, not on Mamoru and Usagi kissing, but all the Senshi and Mamoru at Crown Cafe, sitting in a booth, laughing and smiling and alive. And the picture freezes as Usagi and Rei stick their tongue at each other while Minako with a mischievous look on her face is stealing the cherry off Rei’s drink while Artemis, sitting next to Minako, sighs with a look on his face that shows that he knows that this is the next 1000 years for him. Ami, Luna on her lap, is leaning in to hear something that Makoto has said, a soft and affectionate smile on her face. Makoto has a big grin on her face, the one that only she makes, you know the one. Haruka and Michiru sit, Haruka’s arm around Michiru’s shoulder, Michiru frozen with her hand to her mouth to hide that little giggle, just like she did in that one episode that I’m too lazy to go look up the number of. Haruka is gazing at everyone fondly with a look on her face that is partially triumphant because they won. Hotaru and Setsuna are not sitting on the sidelines, fuck you very much Stars, and instead in the very middle of this whole thing, because they need extra love and comfort dammit, and Setsuna looks a little uncomfortable but she also has this smile on her face as though this is more than she would have ever dared wish for, let alone think she would actually ever get. And Hotaru looks tiny and small, squished as she is in-between Setsuna and Mamoru, but her grin is wide and bright and she is leaning forward to look at the photobook of Chibiusa pics that Usagi brought which Mamoru now has and Mamoru is smiling softly because this is his family and they are crazy but perfect.
Everyone is crowded because the booth is far too small but none of them have ever looked happier and as the image freezes the original theme starts and Sailor Moon ends its fifth and final season.
The End
(I hope everyone enjoyed this but especially you, Jet. I’m sure it’s not exactly how you’d do it but I hope that it was at least a little close. It was actually really fun and cathartic to write and I hope that it was also fun and somewhat cathartic to read too.)

If I Met You Sooner
Pairing: Claire x reader, Dean, Cas, Sam
Word Count: 2046
Warnings: Slight angst, fluff, kissing
Summary: CODA s10e20. You are Sam and Dean’s younger sister when Cas calls you into to help check up on Claire you quickly agree. You find yourself getting more caught up in the girl than the case.
A/N: This is for day 5 of the Supernatural 30-day challenge, favorite female character. Mine has to be Claire, I know she isn’t super popular in the fandom. However, I think she is a good contrast to the people the Winchester’s typically saved because it shows just how difficult being a survivor can be.
Tumblr media
You watched as she rolled her eyes and played tough. In any other circumstance, it would have annoyed you, to watch someone who needed help so desperately shirk it off. This was different. It reminded you of the way you looked at your oldest brother when he gave you those familiar speeches. It wasn’t easy being the baby, but your heart felt heavy as you watched Claire. She was utterly alone, the only contact she had with the past was an angel that was busy running around in her dead father’s meat suit. You felt she probably had at least a little justification in her annoyance at being treated like some delicate flower, by the same people that had left her high and dry years ago.
In the restrained movements of her body, as she sat stiffly on the motel mattress, you saw the wall she had built around herself. There was a certain air to her that was all too similar to what you saw when you watched yourself in the mirror. The harshness, and disbelief in the kindness of strangers, that came through in every small motion. Losing people you love, having them ripped away, it isolated some part of you from every other average person.
You could relate to her.
“Just go easy on her, alright Dean, she gets it.” You were tired of the lectures.
“She doesn’t know what she’s doing out there, she could get herself killed.” You wondered if he was truly talking about Claire, or if he really meant you.
Dean hadn’t wanted you to come with them hunting, far too often, you were left to your own devices. Past the age of needing a babysitter, Sam, and Dean, both felt you were safer far away from them. Living with other hunter’s families, or eventually on your own, but they refused to let you stay with them. When Dean had become a demon though, it had drawn you into the life.
Sam had needed the help and was far past caring that you were supposedly too young and fragile to be hunting demons, wanting to save his brother was all he cared about. After they were able to change him back, Dean told you that you needed to stay in the bunker. Letting you be near the Winchester family but not truly a hunter. He said with him around, you didn’t need to be on the front lines, but Sammy had witnessed you in action and was adamant that you be allowed to hunt.
Cas had called you in on this one, it was obviously personal, and when you had seen Claire propped up in the hospital bed you were worried. It was your own personal nightmare since you had dived into the job, that you would end up with your guts half ripped out in a hospital just like this. You could understand why he was so worried about her.
“I was waiting for backup.” He looked shiftily towards your brothers, waiting for the bickering that was going to come for calling you, “I thought she might respond better to another young person. Y/N was a troubled teen, I figured Claire could relate. ” His over explanation was met with blank looks from Sam and Dean.
“Let’s go then.” You didn’t mind being called troubled, it was fairly accurate, and you thought it was sweet that Cas was trying so hard with a girl that wasn’t even his daughter.
It had only ended up being a minor concussion, and clearly, it was Dean’s presence that was the most upsetting to her, you noted the way she avoided so much as glancing at you.
As you all congregated out in the hallway you could see the way the shorter Winchester was itching to fight something, but you wanted to help Claire.
“I think it could be something, it might be a case.”
Things started to move fairly quickly from there, it was a typical team free will case, full of murder and intrigue but you were left in a haze. Watching Claire so prepared to live the life of a hunter, was intoxicating. When you were little you used to pretend that you were off hunting monsters, stalking imaginary beasts, while you ducked behind Bobby’s old junkers. Now, with Sam and Cas trusting you to be out hunting, even your oldest brother was beginning to warm up to the idea, you had that same burn you saw in the wild blond haired girl.
Mini golf, it was like something out of a childhood you never had, watching Dean laugh and quote movie lines with the other girl. You found yourself bumping shoulders with her, feeling the brush of her leather jacket against your bare arm. Then you were being pulled back into the case and back into the task of research.
Getting up from the chair next to Dean, you ignored the way he watched you, ready to lash out the second he felt ganged up on. Walking towards the bed you held out your hand, and she looked at you, brows scrunching together as she studied your outstretched fingers like she had never touched another living being.
“Come on,” you encouraged, “let’s go for a walk.”
She jumped up without grabbing onto you. Letting your hand fall limply to your side, you did your best to avoid feeling slighted. Rushing out behind her as she flew out of the door, you knew she was just as likely to run off and try and find the thing that took her mom, as she was to stand outside fuming.
Dean called out as you shut the door behind you, “don’t go too far, and be back in 10 minutes.”
Moonlight cast a shadow on her face, and you didn’t comment on the tear tracks drying against her cheek. You slowed your pace, giving her a second to collect herself, and when you finally came up beside her you saw her back stiffen. You leaned against the door to the impala, knowing that if Dean were to look out into the parking lot and see the two of you potentially scratching up baby, you both would have more to worry about than monsters.
“So,” hesitating trying to think of the best tactic to engage the other girl, you came up with the only neutral subject that mattered to you, “what kind of music do you like?”
She turned to look at you incredulously, “seriously?”
“I dunno dude, we are stuck in a crappy motel, hunting monsters with my big brother watching us through the blinds to make sure we don’t run off,” you smiled, “I just wanted to lighten things up a little.”
When she did smile, it brightened all of her features, it spread warmth into her eyes. However, it made you sad that it seemed to be such an infrequent occurrence. You weren’t sure exactly when saving people had turned into something which such a high cost. When you had first met Claire she was only a year or two younger than you and at the time you hadn’t been hunting, just tagging along with your brothers, left with an endless string of other more low key hunters.
The plan had been simple take you and the Novaks somewhere safe, and ultimately when Cas and the boys had departed they seemed to chalk everything up as a victory. But, standing here with her now, you wondered. Maybe these people that were supposed to be happy that their lives were still intact actually paid a higher cost for being the one left behind in the destruction.
“So, music?”
“I guess I like pretty much everything.”
The conversation was easy, there was so much more to her than just some simple victim. As a person you found out she loved pepperoni pizza, hated mushrooms, loved Aladdin, and as you leaned your head against her shoulder while she told you about the various aspects of her life, that she smelled like lavender and leather.
You knew you shouldn’t be so enamored with her, but the toughness and the raw power that was sparking off of her was intoxicating. So as she tipped her head back, blond hair flowing over her shoulders and her eyes twinkling with the reflected starlight you kissed the edge of her mouth. She tasted like synthetic oranges, which you assumed was from the soda she had been drinking back in the room.
She drew away so quickly you were worried, maybe it was the wrong time, you should have been considering how much pressure she was under. Instead, she studied your face, looking almost through you, it felt like she was able to see every intention swirling inside of your mind.
She gripped your face, kissing your back, harsh and desperate. Clinging to the moment, trying through the trace of her tongue and the movement of her lips to quash the despair that you both had so much familiarity with.
“Hey kids break it up we gotta go,” Dean’s harsh voice had the two of you separating quickly, and you ignored the pointed glare coming from his direction.
You jumped into the backseat next to Claire, the two of you not caring as you intertwined your fingers, while your brother started to fill you both in. It wasn’t the motion of the car, rocking you against the seat at every curve, that was causing your stomach to drop. You had the worst feeling about the case. Knowing that best case scenario, Claire would be reunited with her mom and go off to live some normal life or she would get there to find nothing and no one and be left ever searching for what she was never meant to have. Either way, you were worried. As you pulled up to the place, you discontentment grew. When you found her mom, you told yourself this was for the best.
It was supposed to be another victory, Sam and Cas had found Claire’s mom, reuniting a family.
Claire was able to finally hug her mom, relinquishing your hand to hold hers, and as she whispered, “mommy,” you hoped that they could have some sort of family now. Maybe, even peace.
“Stay here.” Dean left you to stand awkwardly, not quite a Winchester, and never a Novak. Still, you were watching the look of elation on Claire’s face and that was sort of priceless in its own way.
It was heartbreaking just how short lived the feeling lasted, as the angel ran a blade through her only remaining parent, you felt the heat drain from your body, watching as another person was left alone in the world. With nothing. It would have been better if she had never seen her face, but to have it right there in front of her, only to have it cruelly ripped right back. It wasn’t fair.
You watched as everyone milled around the parking lot, waiting for the taxi. You had stayed with Jody a few times yourself so you figured she was going to be alright. Glancing over at Cas you felt like maybe he was the only one who had a clue to how much this was hurting. Except not really. He only cared for her in the abstract, as a personified version of his humanity. You saw in her the person you wanted to have a normal life with. Not a life without monsters, but hunting with someone who saw you as equal, special.
“This is for you.”
“Should I read it now?” She traced her finger along the edge of the paper you had handed her.
Laying your head against her shoulder for a second, you tried to take the deepest breath possible to cling onto the moment. It was too short before she had to shrug you off, squeezing your hand quickly before letting it drop. Before she climbed in, she hugged Cas, and you let a tear fall.
“Someone please just tell me she’s going to be ok.”
You almost couldn’t make out the words.
“She’ll be fine, Cas.” You said as you turned your back to the retreating cab, not wanting your eyes to linger on it any longer.
“I promise.”
Claire,
This life isn’t going to be easy. Trust me I know better than most. Just so you know, you will always have a family with me. When you get settled, call and I will be there. I don’t think you’ll want to at first, and I can’t help but think I might be leaving with you if I had only met you sooner.
Love.

Compiled Web Forums On Magical Traps (Mahou Shounen)
Greetings!
I've Googled and Binged this search term and constantly end up with scattered partial and often mislabeled references. I'm seeking any listings of boys/men who transform into Magical-Girls/Traps in Anime or Manga to compile a complete one. If anyone can direct me to such listings I'd be most grateful.
Thanks for any tips!
Location: Two Steps from Hell.
Kampfer - I'm a bit skeptical to calling this a true magical girl show but it has elements of that. It's largely a comedy.
Gonna be the Twin-Tail! - I actually haven't watched this show so I can't provide any thoughts.
There's also a show this season that is what you're looking for but I can't recall its name. . .
Ohg, there's also KoreZom (known affectionately as Korean Zombie Desk Car to fans) which is more a parody of the magical girl genre. It's not exactly a Magical-Girl/Trap thing but crossdressing (purposefully!) as one.
Location: Indianapolis, IN (formerly Mimiho Valley)
The one this season is Magical Girl Raising Project.
There's also Is This A Zombie? which may be the most infamous case since he still looks like a guy but is dressed like a magical girl.
Location: Frisco, TX

I don't know if the moderators will want us to post information/thoughts on the shows but I know of two (maybe a bit more). In the case they do want us to avoid listing, I'll edit this post later.
It's fine. It's not like we see very many requests for "recommendations, so opinionate away! Back to top
DuskyPredator It...it's not like I post for you or anything!

No mention yet of Cute High Earth Defense Club Love!, a parody anime which has a group of boys transform into girly magical girl like forms?
As mentioned above there was Kampfer and Gonna be the Twin Tail which had gender swapping with a transformation. Plus the big gimmick mentioned of with the main character of Kore wa Zombieturning into a magical girl with the costume to get power, but still looking like a dude.
I might count some jokes in Baka Test of a male character an magical girl transformation (plus guy who looks like a girl). I can't remember if it specifically had some, but I know that there is some crossdressing cute boy character and parodies including magical girls in Ebiten, but someone else would have to confirm it. Not sure if you would count it, but Gatchaman Crowds has some similarities to magical girls, although a bit more shounen, and Rui is a male character who almost always dresses as a girl. Chuunibyou's second season had a male character dress up as a magical girl, being noted as pretty I think. The short form Himegoto has a lot crossdressing, a male character does get dressed as a magical girl. The title male character from Hayate the Combat Butler has been made into a magical girl before.
There are a few others I am aware of that have crossdressing but not necesarilly anything that looks like a magical girl, or another that has a magical girl like transformation sequence but does not end up looking particularly feminine. Back to top

Thanks to you all! Your recommendations are just the leads I'm looking for to create a complete summarized list of this niche genre so don't doubt how accurate your suggestions were! You're hitting in the ballpark! Thanks all!

loathe to admit it, since it was such a horrible change from the manga, and Sensei herself hated it as well, but Sailormoon Stars.
The male pop idols the Starlights transform into female Senshi (note that their original form is female, the male human forms are the false forms). Back to top

I vaguely recall one where there's a guy who's being chased by enemies of a warrior princess who he's the reincarnation of but not sure if she was magical. Back to top

Personally, I think the Stars anime arc was WAY better than the one in the manga. Everybody had more personality and the last battle was just amazing.
What's horrible about that change? Unless you're a yuri fan. Which I'm not.
Three women tricking EVERYONE into thinking they are a boy band simply by crossdressing makes zero sense....besides, that's the opposite of what girls like. lol

@OP: Since magical girl transformations are usually magical, are you interested in anime about boys that become female while they are magical girls? There are a couple manga titles (or perhaps more) fitting this description but in one of them the author never specifically reveals whether he actually becomes female or not. Back to top

I'm avoiding from limiting the field and taking in the total concept that if the male appears to the public as a magic girl, whether via real transformation (finding surprisingly beautiful guy into magic girl henshin sequences like Twintails) or trapping it, it goes. Granted, there're more difficult plot reasons just why a guy would super-trap it though I do dimly recall reading from far back - and I'm sure the anime concerned was "Princess Knight" -- that one of its original concepts was a martial artist/swordsman boy who does Zorro trap style to evade any suspicion. (It harkens to my Eng Lit days when I learned the original Victorian-age manuscript of the "Blue Lagoon" novel had sibling main characters, not more conventionally palatable cousins...)
If there were a m-f counterpart to "1/2 Prince", that'd make one nice TG "henshin" show with more serious plots and deep characters; with VRMMO anime so hot I'm surprised this character device hasn't played out more by now like in Log Horizon. There're quite a few transgender henshin one scene gags in a few older anime that's very difficult to catch -- it'd mean literally viewing every anime made because such scenes were never "indexed" for the web. But whether via magic or VR, it'd like to see a TG henshin story played straight that would involve all kinds of personal and social complications than shy them.
Anyway thanks for the input!! Back to top

While I don't want to say that any fanservicey or silly show about magical girls with traps represents the transgender experience in any way, Jun is without a doubt a boy who'd rather be a girl. In one episode where Jun is magically transformed into a girl it basically answers the question "What would happen if the prettiest girl in school, who is actually a boy actually became a girl?" Besides how could we not mention Jun Watarase in this thread? One of the epic traps in anime before traps became a thing. Back to top

Good tip! Your lead that Jun did a magical girl gig (if only briefly in a OVA) made the list! Personally, I really believe that was really meant as a trial balloon to such a spin-off... By real-life experience I can see a trap being so insufferably cute that he becomes as popular to boys as girls. I recall a mention in Brazil where the teen trap was a mall lizard who got treated to movies and free video parlor games by schoolboys and it was (supposedly) a totally platonic date thrill thing. I think we're going to see similar here as social tolerances keep rising. Also your mention also prompts me to wish a show with a kind of "magical-girl guy" secret/clueless alter-life romance angle to stir the pot with, or even a club of magical-girl traps (secretly of ages up and down the scale) who uniquely have other things to do besides bumping another off. Works 4 me!! I think this is kind of what Mayo elle Otokonoko was supposed to be. A proposed anime series that never saw the light of day other than a PV that came with the opening song release. As far as I can tell it is either about a school comprised entirely of traps or has a trap club and permits male students to wear the girl's uniform but doesn't seem to have any sort of magical element.
Btw the song is totally cute and sung by the same person who sung the ending songs for other shows featuring traps such as Happiness! Otoboku and Steins;Gate.

Great catch! Thanks! La Pucelle about personified the ideal magical girl-guy philosophy. It's a shame La Pucelle skipped a Henshin sequence. (I'm seeking well done and tasteful guy into magic chick Henshin scenes on the side too.) I like Magical Girl Raising for bringing up the point that if the worlds inside anime/manga truly reflected their populations' sentiments and fantasies that there ought be a heck of lot more magical girl-guys than they portray. (Or maybe Kyubey doesn't know the sex switch trick like Favv does!  ) Back to top

Thanks for the really useful heads' up tip even though Mayo doesn't appear magical. It just seems peculiar to me that when yuri and yaoi and even sibsex are so pervasive in manga and anime that there's relatively so little dedicated work or even fan forums in the traps cuter than girls genre in general. Seems to me there's just as much meat for creative comedy and drama and offbeat variations there, especially when you include the VRMMO realm which kind of straddles reality and magical. (I have a gut feeling that SAO [and Log Horizon] willfully nipped any VR-trap storylines in the bud in the very first ep which I think was a mistake, as Magical Girl Raising shows can work well). An aside; I wish VR people educated people more that just attaching goggles to something optical doesn't make it "VR". There are pre-Xmas sales here in NYC of View-Masters and even binoculars being sold as VR devices.) Well, here's wishing for a anime trap convention OVA! Back to top

The second season of Log Horizon actually had something interesting with the character spoiler[Tetra]who could come as a surprise, but some like myself picked up the clues, that the characterspoiler[most like a magical girl, was originally a man]. Although the series kind of was always on the cusp of saying something. Back to top

Yea, missed that! Luv s/he! Are VR traps like that way too flirty to really be straight? Back to top

Greetings; I checked out DuskyPredator's Log Horizon tip and must say she-he is an interesting character, which brings up the fascinating psychology of how long and what a soul sealed up a different avatar over time will begin evolving into beyond their original personalities, maybe even becoming a new "backstory" to that character. To more directly answer Newbie, I'd guess the Log Horizon character in question was likely originally gay because I can't imagine someone else teasing and wildly flirting guys like that, though as I mentioned over time maybe that avatar and its social standing there will shape a new persona. Not really a magical girl-guy issue -- unless we have one trapped in Log Horizon to start with. VRMMO is the one "reality" way to have true magical girls and magical girl-guys. So the list goes on. I've just watched this show. Birdy the Mighty has a school boy who shares his body with an alien female law enforcer. Normally he has the boy's appearance but, when necessary, transforms into the girl in order to deal with sundry villains. The show combines action and comedy. The transformations cause confusion for his family and his prospective girlfriend. They two personalities also hold internal conversations.
I haven't seen it yet, but I assume the remake - Birdy the Mighty Decode - has the same premise. Back to top
ChibiKangaroo Birdy the Mighty is quite good. I'm not sure if it falls in this category just because i think boy + girl merging into one being or sharing a body is kind of its own thing, but it is similar.
Thanks for this head's up! Though not magic related the gender swapping aspect makes a list. Errinundra wrote: I've just watched this show. Thanks, a good mention, though not exactly a magical-girl theme, more like the "science girl" trap that's Twintails, but gender duality theme makes the honorable mention list. I'm kind of getting inspired to try doing a magical trap short myself, only I'm a lousy artist! Back to top
GoddessOtome I was gonna say La Pucelle from Magical Girl Raising Project.

You mean Magical Girl RAZING Project!
Happy New Year All!
I need help in an accurate translation for the titles of my listings for magical girl-guys and virtual girls/women. I'd appreciate any sage knowledge of whether the Japanese term "Mahou Shounen" actually literally translates out as either "male magical girls" or "males who transform into magical girls," and if there's a more accurate one please tip me. I found quite a few "male magical girls" are actually traps in magical girl guise which to me isn't quite the real deal though legit enough in topic.
Also for a parallel listing this topic has inspired, I'm seeking Japanese terms for "VR women who are men" and "VR trap" or "VR TG". I'm trying to discriminate in that you probably wouldn't qualify a male trapped as a female avatar in Log Horizon as actually being a trap which to me is more of a "lark adventure" situation (as originally happened in the 1st SAO ep) than a involuntary trapped "TG" situation as occurs in LH.
Thanks for any assist! Back to top

Well "mahou shoujo" is literally "magic" and "girl", so "mahou shounen" should just be "magical boy". I think that I have seen it used to refer to a character like Chrono from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, who is really a male version of what the titular character is. I think that if a male character turned into a girl they would be a full magical girl. But I still feel tempted to call Ayumu a magical girl despite his gender not changing.
@DuskyPredator
Some things in regards to KoreZom, I don't think they referred to themselves as Magical Girls (mahou shoujo). Instead the term was "masou shoujo" and the English equivalent translation of it, from the fansubs I've seen, was Magiclad Girl. So, yes, he's not a magical girl in many senses since he just, err, wears their garments.
@maxlance
I don't know of any Japanese equivalence for the terms you're looking for but the term I've seen used in papers and such is "gender swapping*" so hopefully that will aid you in finding a Japanese equivalence of the term.
*This terms refers to playing as the opposite gender in games.

Oh, you're just splitting hairs here.
Ayumu *is* a magical girl in every sense of the term. He's got a bloody HENSHIN SEQUENCE. Back to top
maxlance Greetings all and thanks for the feedback!
Can those in the lingo know straighten me out on phase usage? Google Translate is almost useless in providing me what "trap" (as in crossdresser) is In Japanese, never mind the full term "Magical Trap", or "Virtual Woman Man" like a guy's fem-VR avatar in LH, unless they have to be made up which ought be fun. Maybe some another language might be plastic enough to possess such terms! My listing does distinguish between true biologically changed guys into real magical girls (like Twintails) and those becoming "magical traps." I am also coming around to accepting fully mind swapped magical girl dudes as the real deal (say a brother mind-swaps his sis's to kindle her magical bod) if the situation calls it, along with multiple personality magical girl traps as being legit as well. Another category I might consider splitting off are "techno-magical magical traps" as in Twintails, as opposed pure magic magical traps as La Purcell in Magical Girl Raising. Supposedly there's a Sailor Moon magical girl guy in the works but have to dig that out.
Thanks for your input! Back to top
