next, you're gonna tell me it's gonna be some made-up year like "2025" next. tch, imagine that.
anyways, whoo! 2023! compared to both 2022 and 2021, i gotta say, my art style took a hard swerve in some direction this year. i mean, look at that klavier from january and that butch kim from just this december! (granted, i heavily referenced the portrait of butch kim but still, i didn't use to paint! mama mia!)

drawing this one was so time-consuming and ambitious but boy, do i love the end result! i had fun doing the inks for this one but was it a lot! i usually color in lineart and render everything but i had to stop myself from doing it for this one bc man, i'll die asksks
this also has some of my favorite apollos i've drawn, definitely
also! the part about the lineart not being colored and no rendering ended up being a deliberate stylistic choice for this one bc i had like more freedom to do just shadows with inks without it looking too out of place.

Random adding on to the glasses headcanons with Hobie in your other account, I sleep with my glasses on, sometimes on purpose and sometimes I just forget they're on. So far they haven't broken, but I don't know if it's gonna stay that way if another person sleeps with you.
I don't know what I'm saying man I haven't watched Across the Spider-Verse yet but I WANT TO SO BAD 😭
Also I feel like Pav or someone else would steal glasses to wear them for whatever reason, stack and wear all the stolen glasses together.

i have slept on my glasses also and the way i would gasp so loud when i realize it + you haven’t seen spiderverse ?! it’s amazing, watch it when you can ( ˙꒳˙ )
don’t even get me started with hobie, he’d smother your frames until he wakes up dazed and realizes it’s your glasses. he would comically jump off the bed and panic to see that the temple is broken off. hobie tries to make his diy skills work but to no avail.
pav would like stealing them for fun. you would try finding your glasses while asking him where it is. he would shrug his shoulders when they’re actually nestled into his thick, wavy locks. and idk about you, but prescription lenses are really expensive so he better give it back.

anyways while i procrastinate the next chapter of my smau. here's what i think i would consider my top 10 favourite movies i WATCHED in 2023. they may not have come out this year. and it might be a rewatch but like i saw them this year. ok yeah. keep in mind im a simple silly girl i honestly don't consume much content that isn't related to my hyperfixes sooo i do miss a lot of movies el oh el. anyways !!

1. spiderman: into the spiderverse. i'm sorry to say i didn't get to see across the spiderverse yet. also this was a rewatch i'm not that late to this movie. but. DUDE. genuinely what i'd consider my favourite movie. of all time. the graphics? literally gorgeous. ugh. i could go on about this movie for ages. it really did change animation if you ask me (a non professional teenage girl) but like ?? the story oh my god i loved the idea. and miles was such a Person. he was so real. oh they did such a good job on miles and gwen and stuff. just like. they were so real to me. i love them so bad this film genuinely had an indescribable effect on me. also i ADORE the soundtrack <3
2. oppenheimer. like. okay i know people complained it was too long. and i get that but also i genuinely would watch like. another hour of that film. THE CINEMATOGRAPHY?? dude it was amazing. i genuinely loved oppenheimer ough it was such an Experience. especially because i went into it thinking i wouldn't enjoy it very much? yeah i was dead wrong. LOVED that film.
3. top gun: maverick. this did come out 2022. which feels crazy i swear it was this year. but i know it was '22 because i rewatched it this year STILL HITS THE SAME !! i genuinely love this movie so fucking bad! the characters were so fun. and i liked how like? despite the established lore that's obviously shown in the film it has a very open new-audience entry point (idk what else to call it ?!?!) because i didn't watch the original top gun but i honestly think i understood like. basically everything in the film. maybe i missed some like nuanced ideas bc they were like linked to the first top gun but other than that it's good as a standalone too and! i value that. it's a great film.
4. blue beetle. i don't know if this film was like. Objectively this good? but i have a few reasons. firstly, i'll admit i'm biased and i just like blue beetle. i love jaime reyes !! so i was super excited to hear there was a blue beetle movie. secondly, i loved the acting. the cast wasn't all that big? not that it was small, or anything, but it might've felt that way bc most of the characters were jaime's family. but. like? they did so incredibly well. it was a Generic Superhero Movie tbh. like, half-assed romance, character's family member dies (will not spoil who though! soz for the half-spoiler) and all that? but. OUGH. beautiful film like the premise was pretty interesting as a blue beetle origin story and i loved the acting it was just. yeah. i loved this movie so so much.
5. transformers: rise of the beasts. i didn't think i'd like this one as much as i did when i watched it. like i really did not. BUT? oh my god it was good. i loved bumblebee !! like okay i know he had his own movie with the reboot but i haven't seen it so. ya. but like also? i really loved the humans. they felt like such People to me? i love them dearly yeah this was actually such a banger movie. 10/10 would recommend!
6. the lego ninjago movie. now. i know a lot of people hated this film. from what i heard back when it came out anyways. and i remember shitting on it too back then but? i genuinely liked it when i rewatched it. it's an enjoyable film. i personally am actually a big fan of the redesigns ?? i like the new designs i like how they put them into the show (even if i'm like. not up to date. at all. sawry!) and i liked the whole high-school thing i thought it was a cute little au. and ?? i know it was very unserious but like. that's by design. i liked it like sometimes you really just shouldn't take it so seriously TEE BEE AYCH !! but maybe that's just me.
7. enola holmes 2. oh my god I LOVED THIS ?! i honestly found the first movie like. a little boring in terms of rewatchability? and i remember liking this film but i rewatched it again and like oh this one was so cool. the match girls strike thing was actually really interesting to me! i didn't know about that so it was pretty cool to learn that. AND? THE ROMANCE? "it means i love you" let me ouuuuuttt oh my god !!!! yeah i loved this movie honestly.
8. a whisper of the heart. honestly i'm kind of late to the ghibli scene </3 I DID SEE THIS BEFORE THOUGH THIS IS A REWATCH but i love this film too much to not mention it. ough. i love a whisper of the heart !! it's so cute and i just love the characters so bad !!!
9. baby shark's big movie! is this on the list only because enhypen was in it. yes. okay no not actually lmao but! it was a factor! like okay. HEAR ME OUT !! it gave me equestria girls vibes! my girlfriend told me never to compare baby shark to EQUESTRIA GIRLS but like. i will speak my truth ! the whole thing was just. silly! like yeah it was a little boring at times and i agree with my gf because nothing beats equestria girls (which i sadly didn't see at all last year. nor descendants but if i had they'd have made the list for sure!) but i genuinely did enjoy this one. it's the truth!
10. drive. i know someone's going to be confused but my brother made me watch it and like. man i genuinely liked it okay 😭 it was a fun watch? that's rlly all there is to it i thought it was funny how he never had a name and is literally called "driver" in the credits. it's hilarious. and like. ryan gosling. yk? and i'll be honest i was running out of movies i saw last year that i actually like. remembered. because i have shit memory and i don't think i saw anything All That Life Changing below like the 8th movie so idk.
bonus: a little list of movies that i might've been interested in but i didn't get to watch last year. just in case one of your favs (or popular slash mainstream movies you've heard of) didn't make the list and you're wondering why. barbie, across the spiderverse (watching soon i swear !), guardians of the galaxy 3, teenage mutant ninja turtles, aquaman and the lost kingdom, anyone but you (i plan to watch it with friends soon!), the boy and the heron, the super mario bros movie, five night's at freddys, and i'm sure theres more but i forgot so yeah.

SPOILER WARNING I AM RANTING ABOUT SPIDERMAN ACROSS THE SPIDERVERSE SO BEWARE IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED IT YET
im writing this because i wasnt able to fully rant to my friends and my family doesnt want to listen so i dont really care and im screaming out into the void of tumblr. will someone hear me? i wonder
ANYWAYS (listening to the fire soundtrack as i write this)
that was the best movie i've ever seen and arguably even better than the first one. i am simply obsessed with every single detail of this movie and i cannot stop thinking about it. also me and friend were basically freaking out about everything cuz it was so damn good i cannot even stop.
there was a huge amount of parallels to the other spiderman content that we've seen and i love the way they incorporated them. the way miles saved gwen when falling during that one fight scene with spot. the bus scene with pavitr and gayatri who btw i am totally obsessed with. the way all the words that O'Hara said to miles were basically opposite of what his mother said to him earlier in the movie. the way he was listening to music on his bed when gwen showed up. the scenes from other universes where its mcu canon??? the reference to earth 19999 from miguel??? and a ton more of course
because i am also desi (lore reveal!) and also just because he was done so well. im just sad that they did not include more of him in the movie after his earth canon event was disrupted. it felt pretty raw to see almost the same scene from no way home in across the spiderverse with pavitr instead of tom holland. i also like that regardless of what consequences it has later, even if he doesnt know yet, he's able to save inspector singh. also mentionable is that they switched from mira jain to gayatri singh. in the spiderman india comics they had mira jain and props to the creators for the rep for jains cuz they don't get seen in media very much or at all for whatever reason. maybe cuz most of it is now like gwen stacy canon or whatever? idk someone if u know explain to me please
not related to parallels i almost cried at gwen's speech just cuz it resonated with me so much. thats all about that anyways anyways anyways
the art
god i could go on about the art forever. HAVE YOU SEEN IT? TELL ME THAT IS NOT THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SCENE EVER!!!!!!!!!!! every single city scene just blew my mind and the coloring and style of every single spiderman and scene was just stunning and how was it the most amazing thing i've ever seen?????? i cannot get over the coloring for half the scenes. i love the cities differences and the way that everything falls together in each world. my friend pointed out that when miles put his jacket on in earth-42, it was colored purple and black instead of his usual colors, which indicated so much of how he was prowler in this world instead of spiderman. i think it was interesting also to see that switch of character and did you see the way that his face was much more aged as prowler? there were a lot more lines there and he looked more mature in a way. miles morales from earth-1610 had cleaner lines and a lot more chill vibe. also like the character design for miles morales earth 42 holy shit bro that was so cool i cannot even did u see the lines on his chest and the helmet/headpiece thing the way it opened and his hair and voice and omg
ughh don't even mention the ending cuz why did they have to leave on such a cliffhanger like that??? we have to wait until i think next year for the next movie and i will be in the theaters on that premeire night regardless of what i have to get done that night i dont care. im so excited to see what they will do next i can already imagine some of it and its gonna be so beautiful!!!!!!!!!! <333

There's something that's been bothering me about Across the Spiderverse and after watching the movie for a second time, it's been brought back to my attention. So if you haven't seen the movie yet, what the hell are you doing with your life? It's such a good movie. It's on Netflix! Go watch it! Rent it! Go go go!
We see Miguel talk to Miles about canon events and how they're the things that tie all the spider people together. Ok I get that. Sure, whatever.
What's been bothering me is Miguel claiming that Miles is the original anomaly. It doesn't make sense to me. We know that the spider that bit Miles was from Universe 42. So the Miles there that was supposed to get bit never got bit. I get that. But Miguel claims that this is what causes the anomaly. But the spider that was brought over to Miles' dimension was brought over by the people who were studying multiple dimensions. So what's the say that wasn't supposed to happen? To Miles at least. And other subsequent spider people? I don't think the spiderverse is that fragile. I think it's a bit more flexible than Miguel makes it out to be.
What we do see is that Miguel himself caused a universe to break down. He even admits it. By trying to slip into a role that wasn't his. Why didn't he try to have a family in his original universe? Why didn't he try to create what he wanted from the universe he broke down organically? He cheated. He didn't want to do it organically. He wanted the easy way. He BROKE a universe!
Miguel is the anomaly here. Not Miles. We see that Miles' dimension is stable. There's nothing breaking down, falling apart like it happened for Miguel. I think that since Miguel cheated to get what he wanted, the multiverse corrected itself since he wasn't in HIS original dimension. He wasn't there to provide for HIS OWN canon events. That's what caused everything to break down. He's the anomaly. And he's using Miles as a scapegoat to fix HIS mistakes.
What does every spider person have in common? They get bit by a spider. We see Miguel inject himself with some sort of spider venom. That's not something any other spider person, that we've seen, has had to do. See I don't think he ever got bit. I don't think HE is supposed to be a Spiderman. In the dimension with his daughter, he dies. He doesn't become a Spiderman. So what's the say that in his own universe, he still doesn't become a Spiderman.
HE'S the original anomaly. The universes falling apart started with him. Because he caused one to unravel. And when a web starts to unravel, it kinda cascades, doesn't it? It all started with Miguel O'Hara. It has to end with him. It has to be fixed somehow. And I think Miles is that solution. Miguel caused such a ripple in the web that things have to shift to get it stable again. Which is why Miles' dimension is stable. Gwen's father quits being a cop for her, an anomaly to the "canon" events. Patvir (forgive me if I misspelled his name) was able to save his girlfriend and her father. Yes everyone agrees this is an anomaly but we see that that's not the reason his dimension is falling apart. I don't think it would've had the whole spot thing happened.
I think that's what's going to be the focus of the next movie. At least I hope so. If not, I'd love for some clarification or answer to all of this. This is going to bother me until I have answers. I just have thoughts man!
Edit: AND ANOTHER THING! This just occurred to me so I thought I'd add it in. I feel like it has some relevancy. The "original" Miguel, the one we see, obviously didn't have a family he was close to. It's why he wanted the family the other version of him made. Miguel 2.0. What if, and hear me out, OG Miguel losing his daughter to the dimension collapsing was a canon event for him? What do we see in all the spider people? They lose someone they love which makes them become a hero. For Gwen it was Peter. For Miles, his uncle Aaron. We see this across the verses with Uncle Ben dying, aunt May for Tom Holland's Spiderman (which we can say is canon in the universe because Miguel even brings it up with Dr. Strange). If, let's say, Miguel was supposed to become a spider person, but he didn't have anyone close to him to lose, what would make him want to be a hero? How do we make him fit the "canon"? He still has to lose someone. Miguel going to that other dimension and losing his daughter was his reason to become a hero. It was supposed to happen. In which case, my theory on him being the anomaly kinda falls apart. And I'm ok with this. BUT it also means that the Spiderverse never needed fixing to begin with (aside from all the villains popping into dimensions that don't belong to them. That's. Yeah that's a problem). I think by insisting he's fixing the multiverse, OG Miguel might be breaking it unknowingly. How's that for a plot twist right!?
