After proessing this episode and seeing people's reactions over these past few hours...
Am I the only one who actually feels hopeful after that finale?
Yes, of course Din letting Grogu go broke my heart into a million little pieces and of course I'd want them to stay together. But this was the ending most of us expected, even if we didn't want this to happen. Din's mission for this season was to reunite the child with its kind and that's exactly what he has done.
Luke showing up, as awesome as it was, threw me off guard mostly because I thought a character like Luke Skywalker is simply too huge to put in this show. Nearly untouchable at this point. The appearances of Ahsoka Tano and Boba Fett already felt like Din was being overshadowed, so I didn't think they would do this. Until the moment he revealed his face I thought it's gonna be Ezra, Cal Ketsis or some new character - a person who got Grogu out of the Temple when the Jedi Order fell and somehow survived all these years.
The reason I'm feeling hopeful is because I see some kind of a pattern in how the story goes, following a path of character development. Because as important as the plot is, this story doesn't feel plot-driven to me, it's character-driven.
Season 1 told the story of how father and son, two lonely souls, found each other and formed a bond.
Season 2 made them realize what they mean to each other and what are they willing to do for one another - Din breaking the Creed and revealing his face so he can save his son and Grogu deciding to leave with Luke and train, so he can make sure his growing but uncontrolled abilities mixed with his strong attachment to his father won't be the reason Din gets hurt. Remember what Ahsoka said? "Grogu will choose his own path." It didn't happen at that seeing stone. It happened in the finale. Grogu made his choice and Din let him.
And I believe season 3 will focus of their separate character growth, both of them coming to terms with their own identites. Grogu will learn the ways of the Jedi and how to master his power in the right way. Din, now being crowned the ruler of Mandalore despite not wanting it in the first place will have to come to terms with his identity as a Mandalorian, how he feels about it and about himself, how his upbringing as The Child of The Watch fits into all of this and maybe consider the posibility to live outside of it. Once they both deal with that, they will reunite - either on purpose or because the fate will bring them together again when they least expect it. Who knows? Maybe we'll even get a parallel to the pilot episode?
As for the behind-the-scenes stuff, I'm not worried either.
Boba Fett SPIN OFF (because this is a spin off guys, chill) was announced this way to avoid spoilers (although I admit the way it was done brought out a good amount of confusion in me). It is NOT season 3. It's its own thing.
Grogu is NOT OFF THE SHOW. You really think those greedy bastards at Disney will let go of the one thing that brings them the most money right now, not just from streaming views and ratings but from toys and merchandise, stuff they harvest the most money from? BABY YODA IS EVERYWHERE, EVEN IN THE COUNTRIES THAT DON'T HAVE DISNEY+ YET (*waves my hand from Poland where Disney+ is basically nothing but a myth but Baby Yoda plushies are at every fucking supermarket and they are expensive af*) You really think they are just gonna put a high-tech puppet worth MILLIONS of dollars into a box and stash it somewhere in a warehouse? NOPE.
I also don't think we're gonna see Luke around that much. Why? I think money, again. It looks like they used the same technology that brought us young Leia and Tarkin in Rogue One. The Mandalorian's budget is already huge, but I feel this is something they needed to put some extra money out for. And didn't Mark Hamill said after TRoS that he's basically done with Luke? So how did they got him here? Was he on set? Was it just a body double while Mark recorded his lines and they mixed it so he could sound younger? Or maybe they went through his works, took voice samples and put his lines together this way? Who knows. I hope they reveal it in the making-of special on 25th.
Plus, with all those new live action and animated series recently announced, Disney won't be pumping all its money into Mando.
Now it all depends on the writing. There are some things I would add or extend this season. It wasn't perfect but nothing ever is.
All we gotta do now is wait (and not waste our energy on overthinking)

Can u introduce yuzuru to us the caro way?👀
so you want to know about the one and only. ♡😌
yuzuru hanyū (25) of sendai, japan: the most beautiful ice prince with a heart of gold.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
….an artist clearly not of this world, he’s been sent to us from another realm. 19 world records, two olympics won, dubbed the greatest figure skater of all time. and the most precious bean on top of that.
Tumblr media
but let’s start from the beginning, shall we ♥︎
Tumblr media
so, want to spot yuzu on the ice? use this checklist. slender silhouette, an even slimmer waist, feather-like outfits (he sketches those himself; the fandom lovingly calls him swanyu), soft blushy face. he has great androgyny.
Tumblr media
outside of performances, you see him either with a deer’s gaze or the brightest, biggest eye smile. also, he’s usually found sitting with his wife:
Tumblr media
which is the ice 😄 these two are together forever. you can discern yuzu from a mile away by how he treats his working ground.
Tumblr media
there is a purity to him. you’d not guess that this is one of the most ardent athletes if you didn’t see what’s around his neck after competitions. the guy’s cuteness is as compelling as his skating technique.
Tumblr media
look for it: yuzu’s face is super suave and rosy up close, even after his most energetic performances. some men are handsome, others pretty, he is both.
Tumblr media
even acoustically, he’s hard to miss. applause is all around, and he’s highly expressive. if you see a crying young man getting the high score, that’s yuzuru hanyu. you’ve not seen more beautiful happy tears.
Tumblr media
and score reactions, anyway:
Tumblr media
so, aye loves, the rumors are true. a cutie-pie off the ice, animated, a real unabashed meme — yuzu is easy-going, talkative. cheery, cheeky, one of a kind. his facial expressions are a league of their own.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
if you thought this is the sort of guy who watches cat videos, you are correct 😄
yuz-uwu hanyu, everybody:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
his undoubtedly feline behaviour is often unexpected, it stands out with its adorableness, too. a sweetheart par excellence.
Tumblr media
and, how else could it be: vice versa, the big beast on the rink. he’s cutesy, dorky, very well-spoken in daily life, but when it comes to skating, his seriousness escalates. you blink once and suddenly hanyu is a bedazzling, strutting lion :’D his performances stun with confident elegance.
Tumblr media
he becomes full of ardor, drama, and focus. you’d never suspect so much fire burns in him. a showman and ambition icon, hands down.
Tumblr media
his skating is dynamic, perfected, and emotional. if you want to see art and the extra mile, tune in when hanyu competes.
Tumblr media
the downside is; more light, more shadow. it leaves him crawling on the ice afterwards. yuzu performs so hard, it’s worrying.
Tumblr media
he delivers it all. you won’t believe it:
this guy is an asthmatic.
the symptoms aren’t as bad as they used to be, but there are still regular attacks. he said that he’ll never take it as an excuse and often recalls how he started skating because of it. he’s a badass, extremely inspiring. yuzuru defies all limits, including gravity. his jumps have legendary status.
Tumblr media
off the rink, you guessed it: he turns into a wholly different person.
Tumblr media
it all dissolves completely when he’s dorking around again.
Tumblr media
don’t let it deceive you, he’s the no other option than first place type. he could not be any more decorated with titles, he achieved the grand slam in all competitions as of 2020. and still, king of sportsmanship hanyu is respectful and smiley towards all colleagues and never lets anyone feel left out. especially when it comes to his juniors (e.g. yuma kagiyama, 16, below) which says a lot about him.
Tumblr media
he bows in every direction before an audience, too. lower than a 90° angle, even. this is more polite than any existing formality in japan.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
talk about audience: i introduced fellow japanese skater shoma uno last week, who’s more uncomfortable with social contact and aggression. yuzu, extrovert he is: the exact opposite. he withers away with no people and competition. he’s befriended rivals, had crises over not having someone who could challenge him. when a competitor retires, he’s the one crying in their arms (e.g. with team mate and bff javier fernandez from spain below).
Tumblr media
beside his competitive spirit and princely wow factor, hanyu is popular for his winnie pooh tissue box that he caresses, squeezes, and carries everywhere. he loves good luck charms & rituals, pooh is the most important one.
Tumblr media
fans throw pooh plushies on the ice after his performances because of it. since it’s gotten so intense, yuzu recently started cleaning them up himself on top of the flower girls for the upcoming skater who could get delayed otherwise. (more about what happens with the piles of plushies later.)
Tumblr media
so, the burning question is.
what made yuzuru hanyu emerge so outstanding an entertainer? how does someone causing so much uproar become like that? it’s not just what kind of appearance he was given, although he really looks his part to a T. you don’t have to be an insider to see it right away.
Tumblr media
like literally to a fault. and you can tell the way his blades sound on the ice is different. it’s soft even if he does the most hardcore quadruple jumps. i think it’s because his drive to do this is a higher one, hanyu has an altered relationship with the ice. where his devotion comes from has a more severe reason so, massive trigger warning.
this is no exaggeration: yuzuru is considered a hero to the japanese. a survivor of the earthquake 2011, he narrowly escaped the collapsing rink in his hometown on that very day. he’s often talked about how the ice shattered underneath his feet and it was the moment that defined his life forever. he could have been dead by the age of 16. his motivation has been set ever since. this man is compelled by something bigger, that’s why you hear it and you feel it. he wants to skate not just for himself but others and seize every day.
youtube
much of his copious charity work — that’s where all the pooh plushies go — went to mend the consequences of the tsunami ever since, he’s looked upon as a great hope in japan. the minister gave him the people’s honor award in 2018.
Tumblr media
now you know why yuzuru has such a fanbase and treats the ice as sacred, you see it in every gesture. his manners are without a single flaw, he helps staff repair the ice after performances.
Tumblr media
you might think it’s odd, but he honors the ground. he’s invested in the integrity of it. that’s why he’s the best skater. it’s gratitude and the will to live fully.
Tumblr media
he hates to fall on the ice, he hates to damage it. alongside his feathery weight, that’s why the sound he makes while gliding along is so tender.
i think that’s also why hanyu’s signature element is the ina bauer. it doesn’t rely on brutal force, instead this element slides across the rink like a swan. yeah, oh my god.
Tumblr media
it’s his most well-known dramatic move. the way he surrenders into it.
Tumblr media
hanyu’s back arch and perfect split allow him to do elements no other male skaters can. his biellmann spin, for instance. i know, it’s ridiculous.
Tumblr media
and those are just two elements of dozens and dozens. hanyu is a kinetic wizard. i highly rec this record-breaking delivery of his olympic program. in front of his home crowd! he’s just… mind-boggling. i live for his smiles here.
youtube
exceptional skater, exceptional mentor: it’s time we look at another puzzle piece that made yuzu the way he is. the masterful brian orser is hanyu’s beloved coach. missing gold by just one mistake at the olympics 1988, brian is now committed to give others what he couldn’t have— successfully so.
Tumblr media
orser took the ice prince to gold twice, this hasn’t happened in 66 years. brian is the nicest and most supportive pooh carrier and yuzu’s utmost rock. hanyu’s talent rests safely in these hands.
Tumblr media
he gets strict about punctuality lmao! but other than that, his guidance is gentle. canadian he is, brian’s courteousness mixes well with yuzu’s politeness. their bond is strong. as. hell.
Tumblr media
brian picked up yuzu from rock bottom several times. most fateful being hanyu’s accident with a fellow skater during competition warm-ups nov 2014. they collided at a high speed, it was unspeakably nasty. yuzu got knocked out for half a minute and had grave breathing problems but still decided to skate on with what later turned out as an almost-concussion. brian was the most worried ice dad in the world that day.
Tumblr media
yuzu cried and crouched and bled like mad and my heart has been broken ever since. i hope he never suffers like that again. promise me you don’t search up the video, it’s a harrowing watch like a stab to the chest. sadly enough, hanyu’s body has still been a notorious wreck, esp. ankle issues regularly give him a hard time 😔
Tumblr media
it hurts like a bitch with every jump landing but he takes meds and still manages to win, god knows how. sometimes even with crutches on the podium. at his worst, he’s still the best, it’s a tragedy.
he’s been recovering, or always is, but he pushes himself through injuries. his ambition and perfectionism are boundless. the cause is more important to him than his well-being. this is not an easy guy to stan once you see how he sacrifices and self-destructs. so, it’s good someone protects him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
mostly from himself because nobody has profoundly surpassed hanyu. he has let himself no choice than to contest himself. not even health, only age can stop yuzu. i think that brian understands this ‘curse of a genius’ effect. his mere presence can make hanyu say these rare words:
Tumblr media
his two other coaches contribute to that. tracy wilson (left) has proven to understand his playful side the best while ghislain briand (right) helps yuzuru deal with his fears. so you got 3 people taking care of the golden boy. brian once said: “he is very sheltered” and you can see it’s true.
Tumblr media
yuzu eased into learning english and communicates well with his coaches. like with everything, he studies hard and often forces himself to speak during interviews to practice. his skills are astounding. his speaking voice is also very soothing, very amicably low and high alike. yuzu is highly intelligent. he always says something eloquent and interesting.
Tumblr media
now, privately, hanyu is very much like you’d expect someone so devoted to skating would be like. he doesn’t go out, has no social media, can’t eat nor sleep very well. no cameras allowed during practice. it figures he is attached to winnie pooh, think about it. in the cartoon, pooh is someone who sleeps, eats, and engages with friends plenty.
Tumblr media
these are the things hanyu can’t do, doesn’t have time/energy/incentive for. he is barred from balance in life but can at least admire this little carefree plushie for it. especially because pooh represents eating lots while yuzuru doesn’t have a good relationship with food (he says it doesn’t go well with jumps etc.), hanyu lives vicariously through him.
Tumblr media
what’s more, you have to see how he throws himself onto others and never wants to let go, yuzuru is extremely cuddly.
to the degree that mere social customs can’t meet how much he really needs. so, what else can he resort to, he loves mascots and plushies. it’s how the tale goes in japan generally, tough work ethic, high responsibility, high pressure, so people turn to cute fluffy things.
Tumblr media
he always fondles pooh’s head, even pretends he’s come to life so he has someone to snuggle with. i think that his isolated lifestyle doesn’t help. so, he gets his affection at least there, you can see how happy it makes him. and again: he does this all for charity.
Tumblr media
that’s why fellow skaters are so important to hanyu. it really brings out his social spirit and comforts him best, it’s so wholesome. i’ve not seen someone react so relieved to being embraced, like he’s not been touched for months. skating this, skating that. at the end of the day, hanyu wants love.
Tumblr media
as he once said, what motivates him is to express himself in the first place. hanyu is a romantic. it’s written all over him. it reflects in his music choices, his elegant motion, how he designs his outfits:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
… and how thoughtfully he talks about marriage. he has big plans for starting a family and coaching after he retires. i won’t be the only one squeezing lucky charm pooh in my imagination so it turns out well for him. please make this heart of gold heal and see all his wishes come true ♡🐻

Static and Stars: Episode 1 - Jay Day
Index
Jay and Nya haven’t been on a date in like... ever. So when they finally do go out on their own, some unexpected memories catch up with them.
AUTHOR’S NOTES:   Hey guys! At long last, S&S continues. I hope it hypes you up just like it does me! I was planning this for OC Day when I realized that it actually didn’t have any of my OCs in it (yet) so I’m happy to throw it out now.   This episode is quite guiltily Jaya-centered but PLEASE understand that it will be the only one. I laid out my plan for this fan season and I liked it, so I’m following through with having it kick off like this. This is a Jay fan season. Not a Jaya fan season. Thank you!
-
A patronizing BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! rang out beside Jay.
He groaned and sat up, hair messily flying all over his face. He slammed his hand onto where the sound was coming from, but found he slapped the smooth surface of his phone. He let out another grunt while the alarm was still judging him.
He shot out a small current through his fingertips and the beeping stopped. Right… he forgot. They weren’t in the Bounty anymore.
Jay climbed out of his sleeping bag and looked to his right, where Kai, who had just awoken, was trying to quickly rearrange his bed hair. Further past him, Cole was still sound asleep.
Kai noticed that he was still as a rock and, mid-hair-fixation, kicked him hard.
“Ow! Dad! Fine, I’ll get ready for dance practice-“ Cole jerked awake and then looked at Kai scorningly.
“This sucks,” Kai groaned. He plunged his arms into his “hygiene” kit and pulled out a hairbrush, some cologne, and a bit of blush fell out.
Jay stood up (while making sure his plushie stayed safely tucked in his sleeping bag) and smiled. “Aw come on guys, it’s not that bad!” He said, stretching.
“Whatever you say,” Cole sighed, tying his hair up in a bun.
In full pajamas, Jay exited the tent. Outside it was full sunlight, with shadows of leaves dappling the ground. He gazed at Ninjago City in the distance; it looked so much quieter from the outskirts.
Zane was already outside making a meal for breakfast. He slept outside. Jay didn’t see the appeal, but he said that it was better for him to be out with the stars and one with the (mild) wilderness.
“Good morning, Jay.” He smiled with ease. “You should really wash those gloves.”
He took a look at his hands. “Funny coming from you, ya barely change your clothes,” he playfully argued, knowing already it was a useless excuse. Zane sat there in full gi wear and looked up.
“I do not have the rather disgusting human body which pollutes cloth,” he responded simply.
“Any updates on how the monastery is going?” Jay asked, changing the subject.
“Indeed!” He flipped a pancake with a spatula. There was a whole contraption set up so that Zane could do his thing, even outside. “I have been notified that it is going smoothly.”
Jay nodded. He sat on a cushioned log. “I’m still so glad it’s over.”
“The First Realm was certainly a tiring event.”
“Yeah, and Garmadon… that fight was insane, huh?” Jay scratched his head. He was grateful that even with this makeshift living situation, they could rest.
“You don’t even know the half of it.”
The two ninja looked up. Nya was strutting toward them, tying up her hair casually. Unlike Jay, she had already gotten dressed.
“Nya!” Jay brightened up, even more energized from the sight of his girlfriend. The morning sun made her look quite phenomenal. She sat down by him, very close, physically. Zane’s (literal) inner timer dinged, and he stood up. “Breakfast is ready!”
At that moment both Kai and Cole rushed out of the tent, still very unready. Kai’s hair was half-done, his arm through just one sleeve of his jacket, and he was still pulling up his pants. Cole had yet to do much. He was just running out with his pajama pants on, and… that was it.
“What were you guys doing?” Jay asked.
“Shut up,” Kai said immediately, his eyes suddenly very focused on the pancakes that were now out and ready.
They all sat in their eating area on the cushioned logs in their circle beside Zane’s cooking tools and contraptions. It was a very average day, at least, for one where they had to camp together without a strong shelter and where they had nobody to fight anymore. But there were obviously some things missing.
Nya turned to Jay. “Well,” she shrugged, “Lloyd and Wu are off on their things.”
“As they have been for a while, making their own camp in Misako’s space,” Kai interjected, eyes narrowed. “Meanwhile we have to make it out here, in the wild, the cold-”
She ignored him. “And we have nothing going on, finally. So.. well… we haven’t really done much recently. And you were off in the realm for…. A while.”
Jay swallowed a chunk of bacon. “Right! How long exactly has it been since we’ve done something, just you and me, that didn’t involve snake venom or the fate of the world?”
She looked at her paper plate of food, thinking. “Like. Never?”
“Yeah.” He chewed more, a bit unbelieving. They’d only ever done fun things with at least one person from the team or when a villain was on their tail. Or if it was work or training.
“We have never really had a normal date, like, at all, have we?” She looked straight at him, making her point.
“Okay, today is perfect!” Jay finished the last of his meal happily.
“Alright, you guys, calm down,” Kai stood up, smirking. “I know that must mean you’re all very new to this, so if you’d like to ask the master-”
And then Cole just straight up picked Kai up. He just yoinked him from off the ground and slung him over his shoulder. He turned toward the pair, genuinely smiling. “Hahah, he’s one to talk. Come on buddy.” As he carried him back to the tent, Kai let out yells of protest, but it was nothing against Cole’s strong hold.
Zane smiled. “You enjoyed your meal, I hope?”
“Breakfast was great, Zane,” Nya commented, laughing.
“I guess this means we’ll finally have a day all to ourselves,” Jay winked, standing up. “I’ll devote this day to being Nya Day.”
She winked back. “And I, Jay Day.”
“Let me just go put on my clothes first.”
 -
The wind of the mountains blew fresh through the couple’s hair. Jay had dug through his bag to try and salvage what he could of the nicest clothes in there and had just barely scraped out a clean look. He’d stepped back outside, surprised to find Nya in a brand new, somewhat formal outfit.
“Oh,” she had said, reddening a bit. “Maybe I should go get that other stuff back on.”
“No! No,” he’d interjected immediately. “You look really nice.”
Now they were climbing down the rocky side of a steep mountain that led down to Ninjago City from their camp. Or, well, they weren’t exactly- their hybrid elemental dragon guided them down slowly, walking so as to not be easily detected.
“Where are we going?” Jay asked from his spot behind Nya, who had the reins.
She glanced at her boyfriend quickly with a sly smile. “You’ll see.”
Jay grinned and kept his silence for a little while. But inside his thoughts were racing quite a bit. He felt tense and nervous- and not because of the date. It was all so familiar. Too familiar. Sitting behind Nya, holding onto her... the feeling of the dragon’s spine beneath him and the thrum, thrum of what was the dragon walking but what his brain turned into the panicked beat of wings. His thoughts wandered through that old experience and he wanted it to stop. But he decided not to say anything.
At the edge of the city they, to Jay’s relief, put away the use of their dragon and grabbed a ride from a surprisingly mellow fan who was happy to provide service to the “folks who’d saved the city’s ass more than once.” Nya whispered the destination into his ear and he chuckled. “Well y’all enjoy your time, n’.”
“Shut your eyes, boltbrain,” Nya pleaded, trying to hold back a laugh.
“I wanna see, though,” Jay whined with a smile, trying to swat her hands away. She was reaching from her spot in the passenger seat of the car.
He (eventually) complied and they stepped out onto what felt like some concrete. Jay heard the car drive away.
“Okay,” Nya giggled, sounding slightly embarrassed. “You can look.”
Light flew into his eyes as he shot them open. He blinked a few times and observed the building in front of him. It was a fairly average-looking concrete building on the outside, but the windows were plastered with 80s-themed patterns, stickers, and paint. He gazed up at the sign that marked the building, which read in bright neon letters, “Ninjago Roller Rink.”
He turned to his girlfriend with a shy smirk. “Nya, what is this?”
“Okay, okay, so. It looks a bit run down. But I remember that you were into roller skating as a kid. So I just thought-“
He pulled her into a tight hug, his excitement growing. “This is awesome! Let’s go!”
He tried to rush to the door, but Nya got there first and held it open for him. “Ladies first,” she said.
“Ha-ha,” he joked, unable to hide his grin. They stepped confidently into the building.
The floor, cheap carpet with an 80s pattern, stretched out beneath them. There were party tables all around them, broken up by counters on the side of the right wall selling the snacks and roller blades. And on their left down a ramp, in all its glory, was the large wooden rink with a disco ball hanging above it. Popular 80s music played but it was barely heard among the conversations of the many people in the building.
The couple got stares as they entered, but they were too excited to care too much. They rented their skates and set off towards the rink.
They stepped out onto the floor and the rink suddenly cleared. Bunches of people crowded around the edges to watch two ninja in fancy clothes do normal people stuff.
While Jay eased on Nya stepped on immediately, and almost fell to the floor but grabbed hold of the edge just in time. She looked surprised.
“You’ve never done this before, huh?” Jay questioned, sympathetic.
She shook her head, blushing. “I didn’t know it was that difficult.”
“Well it’s not, once you learn. Here, let me show you.” He held out his hand.
She grunted but took hold of it.
A scene flashed in Jay’s brain. He was forced to remember. The rooftops of the tall, wide building of the city stretched before him, and he felt a feeling of dread, the intrusive thought that this was where it started. He dropped her hand suddenly.
“Jay? Are you okay?” Nya asked, worried.
He took her hand again quickly. “Yeah,” he lied. “Just a little nervous, I guess.”
He took her along the walls of the rink, guiding her with his words. But all the while, he was wondering what had happened. It’s not like it was the first time they’d held hands, of course. So why get so heavily reminded of that now? He was fooling himself. He knew the answer. None of the other ninja were around. Just like… he shook his head. No, stop Jay, you’re literally on a date, he told himself.
They were eventually off of the walls together, rolling slowly and steadily around the rink. Since it was empty, there was no need to go in the required circles, so they freely went where was best.
“Alright,” he said gently. “I’m gonna let go now.”
She looked at him, panicked. “Wait! Don’t!”
Jay gave her a serious look. “I’m going to, okay? Are you ready?”
She paused for a second and then nodded.
    “You sure?”
    She nodded again.
    “Go!”
With a gasp from the crowds, they let go together and Nya rolled ahead. She picked up her pace as they cheered, feeling confident, and then promptly lost her balance and fell down in a tangle of girl, skates and kimono.
    “Nya!”
She punched the ground. “This is never going to work!”
Jay frowned. “Don’t say that, you’re doing real good! Look,” he brightened up a bit, “next time I’ll wait until you really want to do it yourself.”
Reluctantly, she nodded, and took his outstretched hand again. As he pulled her up the music turned to a certain kind of song. An incredibly sappy, incredibly overly fitting song.
“Oh.” As Jay scratched the back of his head, getting all red, the crowds murmured in wondrous anticipation. He looked around and saw the guy behind the counter put his phone down with a wink. “I guess this isn’t really what you expected,” he told her nervously.
“It’s cool,” she shrugged, smiling. “Besides, I wanna show you off.”
He chuckled. “I wanna show me off, too.”
    And then it became perfect.
Nya picked up the skating incredibly quickly and was able to do very well by herself after just a few seconds. They rejoined at certain points and laughed. When he caught gazes from the crowd, Jay did some age-old skating tricks from way back, rousing several cheers. He always looked back at Nya wherever she was, who was always sporting a proud smile. It was foolish. It was childish. It was fantastic.
But their finish wasn’t as strong at all.
They met up towards the end of the song and started to feel something deep in the memories of their bones. Deep in their roller dance, they didn’t think and posed in a way they’d done before- in a fight. Like an instinct of feel-good thrill, they posed, and Jay suddenly gripped his head and fell to the floor.
It was dark and they were on top of a shining tower. Maybe they might’ve been able to hear the sounds of the black ocean, just maybe, if not for the cries and shouts of leader-blinded, bloodthirsty pirates. They were back to back, their swords drawn, fighting off the swarms of their enemies that no longer even existed within their realm. Jay thought of the lighthouse and this time he couldn’t stop.
“Jay!” Nya gasped, and the crowd let out shouts of concern. He was brought back to reality with their noise- somehow not hers. He was breathing heavily, still on the dirty wooden floor.
“I can’t…” he was almost okay when the music switched to something that bored into his brain. He’d never heard it before but it was saying things that couldn’t be unheard.
“We’re alone together, in a familiar place.”
    He couldn’t stand it.
“Waves beat upon the rocks and moonbeams shine upon your face.”
It was pop and terrible but it still existed, and as Jay continued to fall in and out of reality he felt himself being hoisted from the floor by someone strong. “Let’s get you some water… ‘SM, this music… c’mon, Jay…”
Nya was leading him out of the rink and back onto the carpet, and in her hold he found himself back in the roller rink’s building- but not completely. She sat him down at one of the tables and left him staring at the ground for a moment. When she returned she put an opened bottle of chilled water right in front of him, and wearily, he took a few sips.
A teenage girl from the crowds, who were now mostly filtering back onto the roller rink, shuffled up to them shyly. “Is the blue ninja okay?” She asked.
“Yes,” Nya snapped, which quickly sent the girl scuttling away.
“Better?” She asked, her voice edged with worry. Jay nodded. She sighed, smiling in relief. “That’s good.”
“Oh, but I ruined it…” he groaned, staring at the top of the table.
    “Ruined what?” She asked, confused.
    “Our date…”
Nya gave his hair a ruffle. “No ya didn’t. Let’s go talk about this over some lunch.”
-
Twenty minutes later they were ordering their favorite dishes from Chen’s Noodle House. They sat along the edge of the kitchen and a familiar face decided to pop into their conversation.
“I think I know what happened,” Nya answered after said familiar face asked.
“Oh, what then?” Pushed Skylor, leaning in.
“I just can’t get it out of my brain. Now that we decided to do something on our own, I guess,” Jay frowned, feeling absolutely terrible.
    “What?”
“It’s difficult to explain,” Nya said quickly, before Skylor delved too deep into speculation.
The redhead left for a brief moment to grab their food, and returned looking excited for a tale.
Jay picked around at his noodles. “You’re not gonna believe me, but it’s a different timeline. That only Nya and I remember, I think. It involves a lot of evil pirates, and everyone being trapped in a sword, and Ninjago being in the sky. You were part of my ninja replacements,” Skylor gave him a weird look as he was mid sentence, “and Nya even…”
He paused and dropped his chopsticks back in the tub. Nya stopped eating suddenly, and looked down, feeling sick.
    “Nya what?”
“Nothing important,” Nya said, trying to force another bite of food into her mouth.
“Well, hm,” said Skylor, looking a little put off, “sounds like you guys need to somehow sort this out.”
“Yeah,” Jay stared at his food. “I know. You’re right. We have to stop pretending like it never happened. We have to think about it. Sort out all the lost… stuff from it.” He reached into a pocket to pull out his wallet, but Nya was there first, holding her card out to Skylor with a smile.
She shook her head. “Today’s on me, ya crazy lovebirds. I just hope things are okay for you from now on.”
“Thanks,” said Jay with an exasperated sigh. “You’re a life-saver, Skylor.”
“Well, where do we start, then?” Nya asked when Skylor left them, looking at Jay with some nervousness.
He narrowed his eyes and gave one of his eyes a rub. “The lighthouse.”

year in review tag
thank you @idmakeitbehave for tagging me! 🥰 this was super fun to do. i’ve been sharing my writing for only a few months but it’s been an awesome experience and one of the highlights of my year!
first creation + most recent creation of 2020
my first fic was my angsty oneshot-turned-series only if you knew. my most recent is last christmas.
one of your favorite creations from 2020
now i’m getting colder pt 2. i’m really happy with how it turned out and it’s the longest fic i’ve posted (so far).
a creation you’re really proud of
only if you knew. i was nervous to share my writing, but i think it turned out great. but i am biased, of course.
a new style you tried this year & a fic that uses it
only if you knew was my first time writing reader-insert fiction. i’d never really seen that style until late last year (after i played red dead 2 and sought out arthur morgan fics lol), and i think it’s such an awesome thing. all my fics (so far) are in this style.
a creation that took you forever
now i’m getting colder pt 1. it was difficult deciding where i wanted to go from the ending of only if you knew and what to include. i actually cut quite a lot. i’ve got the too much gene and a tendency to overexplain. 😅
your creation from 202 that received the most notes
baby kiss it better! i really liked how this one turned out so i’m thrilled it’s my most-read fic. if only we could all actually quarantine with spencer reid...
a creation you think deserved more notes
honestly i’m just surprised anyone reads my stuff at all lol. but sweater weather is what has the least, i think.
a new fandom you joined and a creation you made for it
this one! on my main blog, i’ve made gifs for marvel and doctor who, but this blog was the first time i’d created anything for criminal minds.
a creation you made that breaks your heart
now i’m getting colder, both parts. i channeled a lot of my high school self into spencer’s POV. i think that comes across in the writing, too.
a “simple” creation that you really love
plushie talk! it’s under 1k words, but i think it’s adorable and the perfect length for what it is.
a creation that was inspired by another
i’d read a handful of spencer x reader fics inspired by heather by conan grey, but @zhuzhubii ‘s you gave her your sweater is what really made me go, “what if it isn’t reader that’s pining?” and thus spurred me to write my own take on the song.
a favorite creation created by someone else
you can’t make me pick just one. you can always check out my fic rec tag. but if i had to pick just a handful, i guess i’d choose @reidrights ‘s the announcement, @idmakeitbehave ‘s what you’re worth, @zhuzhubii ‘s spruce up my soul (you fill it with coal), @homoose ‘s tie it back, and @illegalcerebral ‘s series fate and fractured hearts.
some of your favorite content creators from the year
@zhuzhubii , @idmakeitbehave , @homoose , @goldenxreid , @criminalmindzjunkie , @differentkettleoffishalltogether . i feel like i’m missing people, though! but i adore all my mutuals tbh, even if you don’t create your own content. 💕
and for good measure, a couple more creations of yours that you love
i only have seven so far, and i think i’ve mentioned them all at least once already. but i’ll give my most recent, last christmas, another shout out, and link you to two teasers from two of my upcoming fics.
tagging: anyone mentioned that hasn’t done this yet, and any of my mutuals who want to. no pressure, of course.

FE Rarepair Week: Day 2
Prompt: Longing, for @ferarepair-week
Fandom: FE Fates
Pairing: Velouria/Soleil
AO3 Link: Here
Length: ~2k
Title: Opposites Attract
Soleil, star of her high school's lacrosse team, finds herself head-over-heels for Velouria, someone way out of her normal social circle, and definitely out of her league. But this is high school: anything can happen, and Soleil's unorthodox courting method may just pay off...
(aka I tried to write angsty Soleil and then it lasted for like one scene)
“She’s so perfect,” Soleil sighs, slamming her locker shut and leaning against it mournfully. “She’d never want to talk to me!”
Caeldori switches her sweaty practice shirt for a clean one and wiggles a finger at her, disapproving. “She doesn’t even know you, there’s no way she hates you. You have to actually make a move before you say things like that.”
Soleil crosses her arms. “But what could I do? I’ll probably just embarrass myself. She’s goth, right? I’m just a dumb jock.”
Caeldori rolls her eyes. “Literally only you think like that. As long as you ask her out properly, I’m sure she’d say yes.” Caeldori’s eyes are sparkling, surely thinking about some grand romantic gesture. Soleil’s seen her reading enough of her cliché romance novels to know what Caeldori considers the “proper” way to ask someone out.
“Maybe I’ll leave notes in her locker.” Soleil says, choosing to ignore Caeldori. Caeldori secures her lacrosse stick onto her bookbag and turns to leave the locker rooms. Soleil follows suits.
“You could leave flowers!” Caeldori suggest brightly. Soleil opens her mouth to protest, because what goth girl wants a locker full of flowers, but the flowers she saw on the way home from school recently spring to mind.
“That might not actually be a bad idea.”
Caeldori huffs, swinging around. Soleil has to duck to avoid the handle of her lacrosse stick as she turns. “I’m full of good ideas! Especially on the field. Maybe if you’d listen to me instead of daydreaming about Velouria, we’d—”
Soleil lunges forward, slapping her hand over Caeldori’s mouth, furiously looking back and forth down the hallway to detect any eavesdroppers. It’s empty, thankfully.
“Don’t say her name!” She hisses. Caeldori pushes her hand away with disgust, wiping at her mouth.
“Not even our teammates are around. Don’t interrupt your captain. As I was saying—” Soleil lets the familiar lecture wash over her, focusing instead on her master plan for wooing Velouria.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Soleil watches with bated breath from around the corner as Velouria approaches her locker. She’s wearing her usual combination of black and red, contrasting with her silver hair. She’s truly breathtaking, and Soleil can’t help but swoon just a little.
The girl wrinkles her nose as she swirls her lock, and when she opens her locker she’ll see a black rose, taped to a note. She’d pulled out her best calligraphy, hoping it would be distinguishable from her usual scrawl in case Velouria decides to do any detective work.
Velouria unfolds the note carefully, and then scowls. Soleil’s heart drops. Then, oddly enough, Velouria holds the note, rose and all, to her nose and sniffs deeply. Her head turns, eerily, in Soleil’s direction. She ducks back behind the corner, palms sweating. There’s no way Velouria suspects her. That would be absurd. But what if she comes this way?
Soleil’s eyes dart around the hallway. School hasn’t started yet, and there’s plenty of people milling around their open lockers.
“Out of the way! Emergency happening here!” She shoves some poor soul aside, and crams herself into their locker, for once thankful for her short stature. She slams the door shut. “Just play along,” she whispers to the bewildered face peering in at her. Her reputation must come in handy, because her accomplice obeys wordlessly.
She peers out through the slits, holding her breath. After a few seconds, she sees distinctive black combat boots passing by. She sighs in relief and bangs on the inside of the locker door.
“Okay, you can let me out now.” The door swings open and she crawls out, dusting herself off casually like she didn’t just do something extremely weird. “Thanks!”
After that close call, she’s careful to not stick around after slipping the note and rose into Velouria’s locker. It’s been a week since she’s started, and she’s pretty satisfied with her progress. Maybe after another week or two she’ll try talking to Velouria, like, in person.
She’s in a good mood after lacrosse practice, humming merrily to herself as she exits the locker room.
“We need to talk.” Says an ominous voice from the shadows.
“Gah!” Soleil jumps, hands going for her lacrosse stick. From the darkness of the hallway steps the last person she expected to see here.
“Velouria? I mean, uh, who are you?” Velouria’s arms are crossed. She’s very clearly unimpressed.
“You know who I am. Unless you’ve been leaving flowers in my locker for the past week on accident.”
“How’d you even know that was me?” She’s never been very good at lying, so she concedes defeat.
“I have my ways,” Velouria declares mysteriously. It’s very goth of her, and extremely cool. “So.”
“So.” repeats Soleil, unsure of what happens next. IS there an expected response to this?
“So,”  Velouria prompts.
“So?” Soleil says again, confused.
“So…” Velouria coughs imploringly. “You must have been leaving those in my locker for a reason.” In the dim lighting, Soleil can just barely make out Velouria’s face. Are her cheeks… pink? She’s blushing? Soleil grins, and attempts to turn up the charm.
“Well, I thought they were an appropriate gift for you. Just as beautiful as you are. I figured I should woo you proper before asking you on a date.”
Velouria nods approvingly, trying to stay calm even though Soleil can tell she’s delighted. If she was a dog, her tail would be wagging. “Very well. I accept your offer.”
Soleil’s bouncing off the walls by the time they exchange phone numbers and arrange a time and place. She bursts back into the locker room, crashing into Caeldori to give her a hug.
“It worked! You’re a genius!”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
That Saturday, Soleil finds herself waiting nervously outside of the mall. She’s in her best outfit, one that goes with her pink hair, and has her hands tucked into the pockets of her letterman jacket so that no one can see them shaking. She’s cool, she’s suave, the ladies love her, she’s the star of the lacrosse team, she’s got this.
“Hey.”
Soleil jolts. She must really be out of it, because Velouria’s staring down at her with a raised eyebrow. Actually, wait a second. She glances down, and yep, Velouria’s wearing a different pair of boots. These ones have a heel, giving her another good two inches on Soleil.
“Hey. Let’s go in! How’s your day been?” She enters chatterbox mode out of habit, but Velouria doesn’t seem to mind. She keeps up gamely, usually offering one word responses or even a sentence or two.
They enter the mall, walking around aimlessly. It’s the only mall in town, so it’s not like there’s anything they’ve never seen before here. Window shopping is always fun, and she discovers that Velouria has a soft spot for dogs when they pass the window of a Build-A-Bear. The other girl trails off in the middle of a sentence as they pass, her gaze lingering on the wolf plushie on display in the window.
“Should we go in?” Soleil teases, though her dad did give her some money for this date, and she’d be more than willingly to spend it on a stuffed animal.
“No. Why would you ask that? I just saw some dust,” Velouria says quickly. Soleil giggles.
“Your tough goth girl image is safe with me.”
“Speaking of that…” Velouria points to an upcoming store. Soleil freezes.
“You want to go in?” It’s a scary place, one Soleil, as a self-proclaimed prep-adjacent jock, has never stepped foot in. The walls are dark, stacked from floor to ceiling with shirts plastered with eerie images and unfamiliar characters. Everything seems to be either black or red. It’s… Hot Topic.
Velouria seems pleased, poking thoughtfully through the merchandise. Soleil may dye her hair, but the man with green hair by the cash register is giving her the creeps. The things she does for love.
“I can get you something. If you want.” It takes all her bravery to ask, doing her best not to look too closely at the sharp accessory Velouria’s holding. To her surprise, Velouria just laughs at her, smiling softly.
“I just wanted to see if you’d agree to come in, I don’t actually need anything. You’re certainly out of place.” The other customers are giving her the stink eye, that’s for sure.
Soleil puffs out her chest. “And you’re certainly devious. I’m making you look at athletic wear next.”
She must have a weak spot for Velouria, though, because instead they end up buying ice cream.
“We should eat outside. It’s a beautiful day!” Soleil declares, scooping up an enthusiastic spoonful of her cup of mint chocolate chip ice cream.
“Hmmmm,” Velouria says, licking at her cone of coffee flavored ice cream thoughtfully. “But it’ll melt.”
“You better eat fast then.” She pulls out her secret weapon. “There’s a dog park out back, you know.” Velouria caves, and outside they go. It’s not actually that warm out, but the sun is shining.
They end up acquiring a frisbee from a dog owner who isn’t paying enough attention to what their pet is doing. Velouria is clearly enamored by the dogs, crouching down to pet them immediately, unconcerned with touching the damp ground. She even makes pathetic, albeit they endearing, attempts at throwing the frisbee for a lively lab.
“I’ve got this. Just watch!” Soleil takes the frisbee from her and winds up. Lacrosse players have excellent arms, and the frisbee goes flying. The dog barks happily as it chases it, jumping over the dogs in its path.
“I suppose sports are good for something, after all.” Soleil holds up her right arm, flexing the bicep proudly. Nothings really visible under the thickness of her jacket, but it’s the principle of the gesture that counts.
“If you want to see what else these guns can do, you could always come cheer me on at a game.”
Velouria rolls her eyes. “Don’t get too ahead of yourself. I’d look terrible in a cheerleader outfit.”
Soleil grins cheekily, giving Velouria a once-over. “I dunno, I think you’d look great in one.” Velouria blushes, turning her attention back to the dogs.
Velouria tires quickly, probably due to her lack of athletic activity and her dark clothing. They settle underneath a tree, and Soleil tentatively takes her hand. It’s damp from sweat and dog slobber, and kind of sticky from the ice cream, but Soleil has no complaints.
Five o’clock comes all too soon, and her dad texts her that he’s in the parking lot.
They stand up, still holding holds, and face each other. Soleil smiles up at her, gripping her hands a little tighter.
“I had fun. A lot of fun! We should do this again.”
“It went surprisingly well.”
“Hey!”
“You’re doing a great job of melting my cold, cold heart.” Velouria amends, a smile tugging on her lips.
“You’re just a big softie.” Soleil scoffs, sticking her tongue out. “You don’t have to act all aloof.”
“Not around you, I guess. You’ve figured out my secret.” She deadpans.
They fall silent, staring at each other. Soleil bites her lip. Should she kiss her? Is a first date too soon for that? Should she let Velouria make the first move? Maybe a kiss on the lips is just too much? The cheek then, maybe. Or…
Soleil raises their joined hands to her lips, gently kissing the back of Velouria’s hand.
“I’ll see you at school on Monday?” She asks hopefully.
Velouria nods, eyes bright.
“I’ll text you.”
And then they part ways. Soleil makes her way back to the car with a goofy grin on her face. Her lips taste faintly like coffee. For once, she can’t wait for Monday to come.

Friends to Lovers!Guanlin
Requested: hi! I recently found your fics and i LOVE them!!! may I request a lai guanlin fic where reader is related to one of his cube entertainment sunbaes, please? thanks in advance!
Pairing: Wanna One Lai Guanlin x Gender Neutral Reader
Warnings: none
Sorry this took so long anon 💙 I was watching Buzzfeed Unsolved when writing this and so kept getting distracted.
Tumblr media
Guanlin loved being a part of Wanna One
He really did
But when he was the victim of all his hyungs teasing, well, not even his superior height could save him
And currently, he was sitting in the middle of the dorm during dinner with his members
Nothing unusual
But, thanks to Ongniel and their gossiping like village grandmothers, they had discovered something that he had hoped would stay secret from them, for this very reason
And this was the massive crush he had
The crush on you
Jisung and Seongwoo were currently crying about how their baby was growing up
Daehwi was giggling and clapping his hands together excitedly
And Guanlin was just sitting red faced in the middle of all the commotion, being questioned left and right
"Are they cute?"
"They're probably shorter than you aren't they?"
"Are they the same age as you?"
"Who else knows?"
"Oh my god, have you flirted?!"
It was safe to say, Guanlin regretted letting Seongwu and Daniel accompany his to the CUBE building
~*~~**flashback**~~*~
It was currently 7.30 in the evening, and Guanlin was making his into the CUBE building to pick up something of his from Seonho
But due to it being darker than usual thanks to winter, Jisung decided to turn into a mother and insist that he take someone with him
Which Ong overheard and offered to drive him in the managers car, and of course Daniel decided to tag along
So there they are, Ongniel trailing behind the maknae like lost puppies
That is until they suddenly bump into his back, Guanlin having suddenly stopped
They look at each other, then at Guanlins face
Only to see that he has gone bright red, nerves plastered across his expression
Identical grins spread across their faces as they see the source of all this
You, the cute high school student currently talking to someone in a room they are passing by
Seongwoo and Daniel decide not to say anything right then, and instead wait until they are back at the dorms to tease him
~*~~**end flashback**~~*~
Which is how Guanlin ended up in this situation
With his face buried in his hands as he overhears the other boys planning what seems to be a Mission: Impossible level plan, to find out who this mysterious crush Ongniel saw is
~*~~**a few days later**~~*~
You love your brother
You really do
He gives pretty good advice
You get free tickets to his concerts, which is always cool
And his group mates are also brothers, and love to treat you, which is never a bad thing
But when he wakes you up from your after school nap to bring him food, in the cold weather with the plastic bags of chicken digging into your palms and your nose freezing off
Well,,,
Kang Hyunggu is better let you have some of this chicken
Walking into the cube building, you are pretty sure you feel eyes on you, but you just shrug it off as the security cameras facing the entrance
However, that is not the only time you feel this as you are heading to the practice room Pentagon currently occupies
(Why did they have to be in the one furthest away?)
The second incident of something weird happening is when you are just exiting the lobby
The door behind you quickly slams shut again
And as you spin around, you are pretty sure that you see a piece of cloth quickly disappear round a corner
But against, you simply brush it off
And make your way into the elevator, and head off to the right floor
Incident number three happens as you get off the lift
As the doors close behind you, to your right the door to the stairwell slams shut, and you hear the faint rush of footsteps and distant giggling
OK
Now you are starting to feel a little freaked out
But you press on and head through the dim corridors to the room Kino said he is in
The floor is eerily empty for it being only 17.45 in the evening, so you walk a little faster than usual
Behind you, you hear faint whispers
Eyes widening, your speed walking becomes a light jog
You turn the corner
And suddenly you are on the ground, a light squeal making its way out of your mouth
Your heart is beating a million times a minute
You look up, kinda expecting to see the ghost of a axe murderer or a demon child in front of you
What, or who, is actually there has your breathing a sigh of relief
"Oh god, I am so sorry!"
In front of you stands Lai Guanlin, swaggy rapper and major cutie
He holds out his hand and you take it, him easily pulling you up to your feet
Thanking him, you stand up, picking JP the thankfully intact food bags
Now, you know Guanlin
Pretty well in fact
He is actually a good friend of yours
Ever since you moved to Seoul with Kino, staying with a relative in the city so you could attend the highschool you wanted to, you became a constant around the CUBE building
And you became friends with trainee Seonho, who introduced you to Guanlin
So you feel at ease enough to blurt out
"I think this place is haunted"
The boy laughs slightly at your serious face, before a sheepish look crosses his face and he rubs the back of his neck
"Uhh, that's just my hyungs. They decided to play James Bond."
"Here? Why.....?"
"Who knows why they do anything?"
Faintly, from around the corner you hear sounds of protest, and knowing that it isn't actually ghosts, you laugh
"So, I am playing delivery person and am being layer with one of the boxes, so if you aren't busy would you want to join me for chicken?"
Guanlins face lights up at the mention of chicken, and glad that he won't have to try and wrangle his hyungs together, quickly agrees to your offer
So off you walk side by side, to drop off your brothers food
What you don't know, is that 10 boys spill out into the corridor you just vacated
Half of them cheering that their youngest got himself a 'date'
The other half complaining that he was getting chicken and they weren't
To which Minhyun gets tired of their whining and says he'll buy some for them, as he and Jisung shuffle the boys out of the building
The little "chicken date" as Woojin dubbed it, only brought more teasing upon Guanlin
And on your end of it, you were being teased by Hyunggu and the nine other Pentagon boys
See, they had always known of the small crush you harbour for Guanlin
But being the supporting "brothers" they are, they hyped you up, insisting that your feelings were definitely returned, and that you should definitely ask him out
They really boost your confidence, and so you confide in Seonho, asking for advice on how one would go about asking Lai Guanlin out
Which Seonho finds hilarious
Because just a few days before, Guanlin had come to him asking the exact same thing
So, deciding to be good wingman (read: sneak) he tells you that Guanlin has a crush on you too
And after finally managing to convince you he was telling the truth, he helps you come up with a plan
So you find out when Guanlin next has free time, and invite him out to one of the basketball courts along Han River
Thankfully, he agrees, and one afternoon you meet him there
He greets you with a gummy smile, and you return it before passing a basketball to him
"So, how about a one on one? Winner gets to choose what the loser does?" You ask him
"You're on," he replies, playfully glaring in determination at you
Now, you really weren't expecting to win
In fact, your plan was to simply tire him out a little so you have a reason to buy him food and drinks, where you could confess
So when you made the final basket, declaring your victory, you turned to face Guanlin in disbelief
Only to find him already staring at you with a small smile on his face
Later on you would find out that you only won because Guanlin kept getting distracted by you looking way to cute, with a determined look on your face and hair falling into your face - it wasn't anything to do with your skills
Going up to him, you punch his arm and ask him what's up
Shaking his head, the tips of his ears turning red, he replies with "nothing."
And deciding to take the chance that fate has given you, you change your plan a little
"So, I won. That means I choose what you do."
"That is what we agreed on, yes."
"I want you to ask me on a date."
You grin at the look on Guanlins face, and watch in amusement as he stutters slightly, eye wide and a blush on his cheeks
But finally he works up the courage to say "Would you like to go out with me?"
Of course you agree, and your first date is to a convenience store where you share ramen and warm up after the being in the chilly outdoors
And that is the start of your relationship with Guanlin
When Hyunggu finds out that he is your boyfriend, and as a result as do the rest of Pentagon, they become the usual overprotective older brothers and much to your embarrassment, corner the poor boy on one of his visits to CUBE
And the boys of Wanna One still tease him relentlessly
Though now he just shoots back a "I don't see any of you dating."
That quickly shuts them up
Oh, and Seonho gets hit by Guanlin for betraying his trust
Guanlin is so sweet on you
He loves to treat you with little trinkets from all the countries he visits while on tour with Wanna One
There's keychains, plushies, even an 'I heart Tokyo' cap
A big part of your relationship is texting
Guanlin has your contact name set as a series of emojis that he won't tell you the meaning to
And in the midst of all the memey texts you send each other, there are cute good morning/night texts to each other that neither of you will admit you send, lest the teasing get even worse
Also, you become really good friends with Jihoon (because Panwink4lyfe)
And basically, you two have the usual adorable teenage romance
And Guanlins hyungs are so jealous of the maknae
But they love you two together
Except when you encourage his savage ways
Then they banish you two from their location
Though they are thankful that you two aren't big on PDA
But cute little kisses are shared in private
And hugs are given by him a lot
He loves being big spoon
And chicken
Chicken dates forever
Requests are open!

Anime NYC 2019, Day Two
Saturday started with a live drawing from TAa, the author of Today’s Menu for the Emiya Family. Denpa’s panel Friday did not have much time to introduce her, so this was very welcome. She loves Fate, and her art is excellent – throughout the panel she drew Saber smiling and holding a rice bowl.
TAa started doing Fate fanart as a hobby, then was asked to do a chapter for an anthology, which is how she got a foot in the door. She was then approached to do the EMiya Family manga as a one-shot, and then when it was successful it got picked up as a series. She did that plus her day job for a year and a half, then this became too much, and now she draws manga full time.
She has assistants now, but did not at first, which shows how much work she was putting into the series. As for Fate itself, she got into the series through Fate/Zero, then bought the FSN game and became totally obsessed with it – this is why she started to draw art. She also loved Fate/Hollow Ataraxia, FSN’s sequel game, though notes it’s very hard to find these days. (One of the Emiya Family chapters with Assassin was almost an adaptation of a scene from Ataraxia.)
Ed Chavez, who was the moderator of the live drawing, talked about how cute and soft the anime was, and also the time and budget that UFOTable put into it. When she first heard about the anime, TAa thought she was being pranked! It was a rapid production from inception to release date – possibly as the company is so familiar with the Fate characters. She also got some new ideas discussing things with the anime staff.
When thinking of a new idea for a chapter, usually the food idea comes first, then she thinks of the characters that best suit that food. She also incorporates a lot of seasons and holidays. Type-Moon has almost no involvement at all – this is all her.
We then got some Q&A. She enjoys Japanese food as her comfort food, says obviously she’d want Shirou to cook for her if she had a choice. She and the editor do eat the meals that are in the manga – a tonkatsu was her favorite, though that chapter is not published yet. She was then asked what her favorite characters are to draw – she loves long-haired characters, particularly Rider.
Someone asked if we might see Bazett, the star of Fate/Hollow Ataraxia, and someone else asked if the mysterious robed figure hanging out with Gilgamesh is Caren rather than Kirie. She hedged on the second, but definitely has Bazett in mind for a future chapter if she can think of a good way to introduce her and incorporate the food. Someone also asked about New York City food in the manga – Shirou buys bagels for everyone?
It was agreed that the flashback episode with Shirou and Kiritsugu was the best of the anime episodes. She tries to keep the series very kind and “happy in life” – since Fate was a big battle game originally, she wanted to see more of the day-to-day life. As such, don’t expect a lot of Zero characters or the Lancer “hot dog” joke from Ataraxia. This series is too nice and sweet for things like that.
This is considered the right time for a series to come out – not because cooking manga are new in popularity – in Japan, they’ve always been popular – but because of the popularity of Fate, which ten years ago was not as high. She was also asked her favorite heroine, and the audience tensed – it’s a dangerous question. She likes them all, but picked Saber.
My next panel was Square Enix, which was doing its first Anime NYC panel. After quite a bit of audio difficulty, we started with a video showing off SE’s most famous properties. Tanya Biswas (formerly with Yen) and Leyla Aker (formerly with Viz) are the people behin things in America, with Masa also on the panel as the Square Enix rep. Masa has been to this con before, notes how fun it always is.
They did a recap of prior licenses, and trailers for two of them. Most of these have been talked about before – A Man and His Cat, Cherry Magic and Soul Eater’s Perfect Edition got the most talk. They also gave away A Man and His Cat merch, including a fantastic plushie. We then got several new announcements.
Ragna Crimson is a dark fantasy title from Gangan Joker. A man sets out to get revenge on the dragons who destroyed his partner. The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto) is probably the title I was most interested in. A woman working in the palace and trying to keep a low profile is found to have knowledge of herbal medicine, and after saving a royal heir, she’s promoted and ends up involved in palace intrigues. She’s apparently quite eccentric. This runs in Big Gangan.
Beauty and the Feast (Yakumo-san wa Edzuke ga Shitai) is a May-December romance, sort of, as a 28-year-old widow finds herself cooking for her 16-year-old neighbor, and food (and possibly romance, but mostly food) follows. It runs in Young Gangan. The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! (Jahy-sama wa Kujikenai!) is a Gangan Joker title about a former demon villainess who’s now in modern Japan and also a cute little girl. Can she get her poweres back? Can her frustration stop being cute? Likely no to both questions.
By the Grace of the Gods (Kamitachi ni Hirowareta Otoko) just had its novel licensed by J-Novel Club. It’s from SE’s MangaUP! app and stars a reincarnated salaryman reincarnated as a boy with magic powers, who discovers that slimes are more valuable than you’d expect. Finally, we get the only novel of the panel, NieR Automata – Yorha Boys. It’s a prequel to the game, and another novel in a series which has already had some novels released by Viz Media.
Next up was Yen Press, who had a ton of new books and also a ton of light novels. The biggest surprise came first – High School DxD, whose manga was licensed in 2014, finally is getting the light novels released. This was a constant request, right up there with Date a Live and Gamers!. I recall not liking the first manga much, but suspecting I’d be more interested in a prose version. Now I get to see if I’m right.
They alternated between manga and novel announcements, so next was Bestia, a Shonen Ace series about a boy who goes to London to discover his past and finds magical beasts and adventure. We then got another surprise LN – High School Prodigies Have It Easy Even in Another World, whose manga started coming out in 2018, from the creator of Chivalry of a Failed Knight, also recently licensed.
Lust Geass is a Young Ace title that will play well with fans of ecchi manga, the story of a boy who finds a spell that will cause women’s sexual desires to explode. Restaurant to Another World has already had a manga release digitally via Crunchyroll, but Yen are now going to be releasing it in print. And another light novel, The Demon Sword Master of Excalibur Academy (Seiken Gakuin no Maken Tsukai) which combines demon lords and magical academies – two hot genres in one!
A monster girl harem manga came next, To Save the World, Can You Wake Up the Morning After with a Demi-Human? (Sekai wo Sukuu Tame ni Ajin to Asa-chun Dekimasenka?). It turns out our hero is destined to father the hero who will defeat the demon king… and so everyone wants to sleep with him. (When did Yen Press become Seven Seas?) Another light novel follows, more on the slow life side: Banished from the Heroes’ Party, I Decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside (Shin no Nakama ja Nai to Yuusha no Party wo Oidasareta node, Henkyou de Slow Life suru Koto ni Shimashita), a Kadokawa series whose title is its premise.
Sadako at the End of the World (Shuumatsu no Sadako-san) is a post-apocalyptic Sadako manga, where she finds that those who watched the videotape are delighted to see her, as she’s another human being in this wasteland. It sounds fun, is complete in one volume, and ran in Comic Gene. Another light novel, In the Land of Leadale (Leadale no Daichi nite), about a girl with injuries who ends up in a game world. Judging by the cover, this is also a slow life series.
A yuri manga is next: I Love You So Much I Hate You (Nikurashii hodo Aishiteru). A Kadokawa manga, it’s an office life yuri title with adult concerns and problems. The last novel announced is a one-shot, Three Days of Happiness (Sugaru Miaki), a dark fantasy about a young man who sells his lifespan for cash. It’s apparently quite interesting. Lastly, Yen has licensed the Carole and Tuesday manga, based on the anime, which runs in Young Ace.
Q&A then started, but remembering how excruciating that was last year, I left early.
My last stop was J-Novel Club’s panel, with Sam Pinansky and Aimee Zink introducing a giant pile of new series. They started with two new print announcements – Sexiled, which has had huge buzz ever since it came out, and My Next Life As a Villainess!, which is also getting an anime next year. (More villainesses are coming later in this panel.)
Kodansha has a new imprint called Legend Novels, and from it JNC licensed five new novels. (No new manga announcements this time, these are all novels.) The Economics of Prophecy: Avoiding Disaster in Another World (Yogen no Keizaigaku) seems to be along the lines of Realist Hero, as a reincarnated economics whiz and a princess with prophetic abilities try to save the world.
Kobold King features a gentle man who was very powerful and respected in his time trying to quietly relax and befriend the local kobolds… who are very mistrusting of his powerful self! Outer Ragna (Game Jikkyō ni yoru Kōryaku to Gyakushū no Isekai Kami Senki) doesn’t have the Japanese protagonist, a livestreamer, enter a game world himself – instead he possessed the female lead! Her Majesty’s Swarm (Joō-heika no Isekai Senryaku) has a girl ending up in a game as an evil queen, and unlike a lot of villainesses in these sorts of books, seems to embrace her evil. Also, spiders warning for this one.
Isekai Rebuilding Project (Isekai Saiken Keikaku) was touted by Sam as the first North American book with “isekai” untranslated in the title. It’s about a Japanese man who is called to “fix” worlds where the isekai’d hero has saved the world and gone home… but left too many cultural issues that can’t be put back inside Pandora’s box. Also, the hero has a friend who is a dragon. Seems to be a slow life title.
A new partner for J-Novel Cliub, Pash! Books, gives us the next few series. Teogonia was described as “what if a Ghibli movie was a light novel?”, and he notes this is pure Japanese fantasy about a booy who awaken old memories and discovers the real rules of the world. The World’s Least Interesting Master Swordsman (Jimi na Kensei wa Soredemo Saikyou desu) sounds like a cross between One-Punch Man and I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years, as a reincarnated boy practices his sword skills for 500 years and is the strongest around… but his techniques are boring!
We’re then told about a new label, J-Novel Heart, that will be publishing shoujo light novels! This has long been requested by fans. (By the way, My Next Life As a Villainess!, which is a shoujo LN in Japan, will switch to this new label in print.) The first book is called Tearmoon Empire, which features a spoiled brat of a noble who ends up getting killed because of her family. She ends up redoing her life, and (despite still being spoiled) tries her hardest to avoid getting killed again.
The Tales of Marielle Clarac (each book will be called “The _______ of Marielle Clarac”) isa romance and mystery book, as the rather plain noble girl tries to figure out why the super perfect man of her dreams wants to marry her – is there an ulterior motive? It’s a good book “for wallflowers”. The Bibliophile Princess (Mushikaburi-Hime) is another book with mystery, conspiracy and intrigue, and (as you might guess) has a book lover as the main character.
I Refuse to Be Your Enemy! (Watashi wa Teki ni Narimasen!) is another in those “my reawakened memories tell me I’m actually a villain who gets killed off” sort of books, only instead of trying to fix things with the various handsome young men this girl tries to flee from everything. That won’t go well. Fukushu wo Chikatta Shironeko wa Ryuuou no Hiza no Ue de Damin wo Musaboru, which has a tentative but unapproved English title of The White Cat’s Revenge as Plotted from the Dragon King’s Lap, has the best friend of the heroine abandoned in a forest, then turned into a cat. We follow the friend as she tries to get revenge on the “heroine” who abandoned her.
The final license was the biggest surprise: The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Isekai, a doujinshi light novel collaboration between six light novel authors, including those behind Tanya the Evil and Re: Zero. It’s a short story anthology, essentially, that began when the authors asked themselves what they’d do if they were isekai’d. This is licensed directly from the authors – no company involved! It’s also pretty short, so should be available soon.
That was the final announcement, and I then headed out to get dinner and type all this up. Tomorrow we get one big panel, and that’s about it. Surprise me, Kodansha and Vertical!
