"Of course it was, everybody probably sent their hard hitters." Cecil finally glanced away from the recording of the match he had been reviewing. "You won, its perfectly fine to celebrate. Go on, boast and little, have a drink."
"Yeah, you should be proud."

Hecaball Player Bios
Orie Larkin
Team: Fae Unicorns
A very handsome young man? Well who really knows about that last part. Known to be fairly charismatic when they want to put on a show for the public eye but considered to be a bit distant during most other times. They get along well enough with the rest of the team and obviously have a fair amount of athletic ability.
They do consider themselves a fan of all types of games, both traditional and non-traditional alike. Hecaball is just another one on the list, it’s not quite as interesting to them as some others but it’s worth playing just the same.
When not playing any of said games they are often on their own conducting research that they don’t seem to speak to anyone else about. Beneath all the sports star charisma is an incredibly intelligent and somewhat conniving individual.
They seem to have a secondary goal while in or around Apricus, but what it is or who it’s for remains to be seen.
Khalid Omar
Team: Calere Crocodiles
The self-appointed team captain of the Calere Crocodiles. Khalid helped introduce Hecaball to Calere after becoming enamored with it. He’s watched every season, studied all the tapes, researched all the rules, and might solely be responsible for the sport existing in his homeland.
Khalid is a very happy individual. It’s almost impossible to bring him down. If anything happens he tends to shrug it off and move on. His father is a high ranking member of one of Calere’s bandit tribes so his upbringing was a little harsh to say the least. However it did teach him how to survive in even the most barren desert wastelands.
Dalia Magdy
Team: Calere Crocodiles
Dalia is Khalid’s best friend. She’s also sometimes the voice of reason when Khalid’s childish nature takes over and he’s bound determined to do something stupid just because he thinks it would be fun.
Dalia is the only member of the team not born in Calere. Her family moved to the kingdom when she was very young. She’s considered the most athletic member of the team and often times is the poster child. She doesn’t particularly enjoy this as she feels her team should all be treated equally, sometimes the media disagrees.
Darius Zaki
Team: Calere Crocodiles
The no nonsense member of the team. A former member of the Calere royal guard who took his leave after completing four years of service when he was younger. He found himself restless but since combat was what he was good at he ended up in the underground fight scene where h made a name for himself.
When Hecaball began to be introduced he saw a chance to try something new, something equally adrenaline pumping but perhaps a little less violent. That being said he does have a bit of a temper and isn’t afraid to get rough with anyone who decides to try their luck.
Adrik Morozov
Team: Nivis Bears
Adrik is the younger sibling of Dmitri Morozov. The most renowned fighter in Nivis, and one of Empress Daria’s royal guard. To say this puts pressure on someone is to put it lightly. Adrik is always trying to live up to the family name but fighting was never truly their thing.
When trying to excel at anything and everything Adrik discovered a love of Hecaball. Being part of one of the winningest teams in the Nivis league and eventually being asked to join the world cup team. Adrik is excited to see more of the world.
Ivan Federov
Team: Nivis Bears
Ivan is considered the planner of the team, some might even call him a schemer. He may not possess the athletic ability of Adrik but his ability to analyze the field is second to none. He’s able to come up with plays on the fly and adjust them the instant it’s necessary.
He spends his spare time going over as many details as possible when it comes to his opponents. Ivan is not particularly the friendliest member of the Bears but he will take some time to bask in the adoration of the fans now and again. He enjoys playing chess in his spare times and is considered a grand master.
Valentin Orlov
Team: Nivis Bears
The youngest member of the Bears and perhaps the most popular when it comes to their younger fans. Valentin is considered a bit of a heart throb though this wasn’t ever something he intended to be. It doesn’t hurt that he’s somewhat of a prodigy and considered by many to be the next big thing in Hecaball.
Valentin is extremely friendly and will go out of his way to take pictures, sign autographs and simply chat with the fans. He’s currently enjoying his first trip out of Nivis and acting the part of a typical tourist, doing everything the brochure suggested to experience while in Apricus.
Alcie Chronis
Team: Crepusculum Sentinels
The team captain of the Sentinels and perhaps the most skilled player on the team. Hecaball is a relatively new activity in Crepusculum but when it began to take off Alcie dropped everything to play. She took to it like a fish to water. Her natural speed and agility greatly outweighed her lack of physical power. Her somewhat smaller frame just meant it was easier to weave in and out of crowds.
Alcie is a fairly friendly individual. When the news broke the Crepusculum was opening up trade relations with other nations she did her best to study up on as many places as she could. One of her goals seems to be visiting as many places as possible. Luckily the World Cup has been allowing her to do just that.
Evander Lykaios
Team: Crepusculum Sentinels
Evander spent most of his early life studying under Father Sebastian, a high ranking religious leader and one of the Highfather’s inner circle. Evander and his younger brother are part of a group within the order. Not much is known about it but some consider it similar to the Templar of Apricus.
Evander was recruited by the Sentinels due to his physical prowess. He considered Hecaball to be a bit frivolous however there is a certain enjoyment in bringing victory to the Highfather. Evander is very quiet and tends to keep to himself most of the time.
Pierce Lykaios
Team: Crepusculum Sentinels
The younger brother of Evander. Pierce also belongs to a “sacred” order within the church. Pierce tends to differ from his older brother though. He seems to enjoy Hecaball, seeing it more as a training exercise and a way to show off his own superiority.
Pierce is the more cocky of the brothers. Despite all of Father Sebastian’s teachings Pierce still has an ego and a constant need to prove himself better than anyone else. Despite being somewhat quick to anger he’s much more chatty than one might think. He’s taken a liking to Caverns & Chimeras even though his brother calls it childish.
Rhea Drakos
Team: Crepusculum Sentinels
Rhea is the perfect mix of speed and power. Being deceptively quick and just as deceptively powerful gives her an extreme advantage on the field. Rhea has scored the most points of anyone in Crepusculum’s upstart Hecaball league and has accumulated quite the following back home.
When videos of her performance began circulating other nations she became something of a celebrity. Though she’s seemingly embraced the popularity, there is something cold, calculating, and sinister hiding behind the smiling facade.

“Hello everyone! Augustine Cornilius Eckerman here LIVE from Eckerman Arena! It’s a packed house and for good reason! We’re about to witness the first ever World Cup Scramble!”
“The way it works is one member from each team will take to the field. The timer will start and whomever has the most points at the end will be declared the winner. Should we have multiple people with the same score we’ll enter sudden death where the first point scored determines the winner!”
“Now we’ll take a look at each team’s representative!”

“I’m not going to lie to you folks, this is going to be a little hard to keep up with. I’m going to do my best calling the action but well..there is going to be action happening everywhere so just sit back and enjoy the show.”
“Everyone has taken to the field so..that only means one thing! Time to DEPLOY THE HECABALL!”
“And we’re off to as chaotic of a start as you could have imagined! Everyone is scrambling for the ball..guess that’s why we call these things scrambles huh?” Clearing his throat “Anyway Knight with possession first but it doesn’t last long as he’s sandwiched between Mashiro and Drakos, no choice so he kicks it away to avoid getting crushed between shields!”
“It’s Mulberry with the recovery, she flips through the air and off of a platform, landing on another but Moth kicks the platform sending her flying! Moth gets control and leaps off of Barbeau’s shield kicking it to the goal and scoring a point!”

“We’re right back at it as Sokolov shows her impressive skill weaving a path through all the other players with ease! She gets near the goal but Magdy is there waiting and makes the steal! Magdy kicks it in for a quick point!”

“This time it’s Knight and Drakos battling over the ball near one of the goals! They kick it back and forth, bouncing off each other’s shields but Mulberry slides between them and with perfect timing headbutts the ball into the goal!”

“I’m starting to lose track of who’s got control, it’s looking like an all out brawl out there! Knight finally getting away from the pack and using his experience to ricochet the ball off a platform and into the goal!”
“Almost instantly though it’s Mashiro leaping off of the shields of his opponents and intercepting a mid-air ball to kick it half-way down the field and into the goal!”

“We see a few more rapid fire goals back to back to back as Drakos strikes, followed by Sokolov, and a sneaky shot from Barbeau! Everyone is on the board now and we got ourselves a heck of a game!”

Cue the montage of total chaos as the most insane goals in Hecaball history are scored one after the other. The players getting more aggressive as time goes on and the shield clashes and showdowns become just a little bit more personal.

“Time is starting to tick down, it’s the final minutes of the game and the crowd is in a frenzy! I can barely hear myself think with all this noise! You’d think they were gonna little cause this place to shake apart! Luckily we’re in the most well constructed arena ever to exist!”

“Sokolov with control but she’s bumped by Moth causing her to crash into Knight! Sokolov and Knight are having words! Moth trying to sneak away after causing some chaos! Mashiro out of nowhere tries to take a shot but is knocked off the platform by Magdy! Magdy gets shoved off right after by Drakos and goes tumbling through the air!”
“Barbeau leaps through the air and makes an attempt to gain control but is knocked off course as Moth flies off a platform and leaps off of Barbeau’s shield sending her down and just barely missing crashing into Knight and Sokolov!”
“Moth looking to have a clear shot but has seemingly forgotten about Mulberry! Mulberry with the brilliant plan of mixing herself in with the chaos earlier and keeping the attention off of her!”
“Mulberry and Moth struggle for control as Drakos rushes at them. Moth tries to latch his shield against Mulberry’s in order to spin her away but mid-spin Mulberry deactivates her shield momentarily, sending Moth stumbling into Drakos and giving herself just enough time to reactivate her shield and bash the ball into the goal!”

“You aren’t going to want to miss a single game! By the looks of it we’ve already got some rivalries brewing, some words being said, and some people being pulled apart!”
“Thank you for tuning in everyone! Have a wonderful evening! I’ll see you all next weekend!”

As the two young men walked the streets of the city, Tomer glanced over to Wigbrand, hands still held nonchalantly behind his head. “Ya still sure about this, Brandy? Ya might get mistaken fer a student.”
“All the more fun, then, ey?” The Duke glanced back with a glimmer in his eye. Tomer simply shrugged in response as they got closer to the University campus.
Once arriving in the courtyard, the two took a moment to take in the sights and see if they could spot someone rather out of place among the locals. After a moment of silence, Tomer asked, “So what’ll ya do if ya don’t see ‘im out here?”
“... I was thinking I might enroll for a class or two...~”
“Ha! Yer havin’ a laugh. ... Ain’t ya?” Brandy simply smiled in reply. “... Yer bein’ serious. Bloody ‘ell....”

Mona was positively beaming. Sure, her team may not have made it to the finals, but that didn’t dampen her excitement at all. This was her first Fan-Fest after all, and she was eager to meet the fans.
Of course the good doctor was elsewhere in the venue, keeping an ever-watchful eye on her protege. She didn’t allow that to dampen her mood either. Mona was here to have fun, and have fun she shall.

Jamie flew out his arms, letting his cape billow behind him. He reached for the snarling hound on his chestplate and took it off and a shield unfolded around it. From its mouth he yanked out a hilt that let out a flexible beam saber. “Jamie Baskerville. Yes, that one. Heir of the most beloved and hated blood in the city, hecaball athlete, nephew to councilmen Cheshire, and soon to be licensed bounty hunter at your service!”

Name: Sabine Dubois
Team: Réunion Revolutionaries
Playstyle and Public Rep: Sabine’s approach to the game is to put on as great of a show as possible. Of course she still plays to win, but she favors going for high risk, flashy plays in an attempt to get people out of their seats. Off the field, she’s very approachable and personable, always open to a fan meet or interview. An exciting, charismatic player to watch.
Name: Kohaku Hinode
Team: Kwailai Yōkai
Playstyle and Public Rep: Kohaku may not be the MVP of the Yōkai, but she’s a very consistent player with solid fundamentals. She prefers to take a more defensive role for the team, doing everything she can to box the opposing team out of their goal. Off the field she’s extremely bubbly and charming, taking every opportunity she can get to be on tv.
Name: Layla Rashad
Team: Calere Crocodiles
Playstyle and Public Rep: Layla has garnered a reputation as an aggressive, ruthless player. Despite her small stature, the girl is a powerhouse, and won’t hesitate to barrel her way through opponents. She also notably prefers to rely on her own skills to win games, as well as having a perfectionist streak. As a result, she can be pretty difficult to work with in a team setting. Off the field, she tends to avoid fans and press at all costs, not really interested in pandering to the masses. Above all else, she just wants her performance to speak for her.
Name: Yelena Sokolov
Team: Nivis Bears
Playstyle and Public Rep: Yelena’s an extremely fundamental player, but those fundamentals are honed to near perfection. You won’t see any flashy tricks out of her, but at the same time, it’s hard to trump her knowledge of the game. Off the field, she’s an absolute workhorse, prioritizing her training above all else. Though she may not be the most fond of entering the public eye, she handles all of the typical interviews with poise and grace, displaying her practiced professionalism in full force.

Checkmate’s Grab for Apricus, One Year Onward

It seems only a small time ago when we all fought for our lives against the unforgiving hordes of Chimerae that flooded our streets. Hecaball players, Average Joe workers, bounty hunters, amateur and professional detectives, even our own elected officials stepped away from their desks and took the beasts to task. Each and every stripe of human being imaginable collectively raised their fists and fought for their fellows in a desperate bid to survive. Considering the fact that you, dear reader, are taking in these words at this very moment, it should be evident that our endeavors for defense were a resounding success.
Despite the massive casualties suffered by our ravenous invaders, we should not forget the sacrifices of the brave who stood defiant and, for their toils, summoned the winds to victory with their final breaths. We should never disregard those whom were unable to stand up and guard themselves through the fickle contrivances of fate.
Now, as we stand today, we’ve all swept away the dust of that horrific night and reinforced our guard to remain alert. In the subsequent year, the same group that threatened us has remained deathly silent. Have they learned their lesson, and turned tail to find other haunts? Has our vigil against their horrors shattered their resolve? Or are they simply biding their time for bigger and more drastic plots?
Remain on your guard, readers. The walls may have new studs, but a well-aimed punch will always cave in the toughest plaster.

Half-Time: Void Katz & Rock Candy
The stage is dark. A slight fog covers the ground as an electronic beat slowly crescendos. As it grows louder, any fans of them would start to recognize the beat as their major hit ‘All Over Earth’. Three platforms rise up from the ground as a few bright lights flash to the bass, the tallest one in the middle revealing the Void Katz behind their synths, one turned facing one side of the arena, the other with her back to the first, but still cheats out to the crowd. For now, the lower platforms are empty. Once everything is set in place, the lights settle to a dim spotlight. ‘All Over Earth’ then seamlessly transitions to ‘Stronger, Faster, Working Harder’.
A projection appears large behind them, showing their mascot Reginald wearing his helmet and doing some fantastical twirls and leaps in time to the music. After a minute or two, the synthesized voices fade out but the beat continues.
“Hello, Apricus! Are you all enjoying the game?!”
“Thanks for coming out, everyone~! We have some very special guests with us today! Let’s give it up for Rock Candy!”
As she says this, the two platforms that were empty now glow, waiting to reveal the musicians.
The girls wore playful smirks as they rose up into place, their guitars hanging from their shoulder straps. Once stationary, Jasper pumped her fist in the air and addressed the crowd.
"What's good, Apricus!" She paused to wait for the cheers to die down. "I hope you're all ready to lose your minds!" Louder cheering ensued. She shot a glance over to Opal across the way.
"If that's the case, then I guess we gotta give you something to scream about!" Opal added. She looked up at the girls in the center and gave a slight nod, waiting for her cue.
Beth raised her hand high for everyone to see, then slammed it down on a comically large red button. Flames shot up from the side of the platforms and the lights behind them started to flash images of cats and candy in a very psychedelic display.
While this was happening, Julie had adjusted the music to flow into the beat of one of Rock Candy's more famous songs, blurring the two together until it was clearly no longer a Void Katz beat, though still in their electronic style, letting the other girls take the stage for themselves for now.
Once they felt the familiar beat fade in, the pair visibly started to move to the music. The guitars kicked in next, as they strummed fervently to the music, then followed the belting of the lyrics. Opal bounced on beat, holding down the rhythm while Jasper swayed gently side to side to control the melody. With each passing moment, they seemed to tune in more and more with the music, until their every movement was perfectly in sync.
The Void Katz bopped along, keeping the lights and energy up. After letting Rock Candy entice the crowd for a bit, Beth raised a hand and powerfully pointed down towards Jasper's platform.
"AND NOW, REGINALD!"
The projection behind them turned to the image from one of the cameras, zoomed in on the stage to watch the cat strut out in his little helmet. On the front of the headpiece was a dark glass-like screen and showed cute expressions as if reading the cat's emotions. He ran around Jasper's legs, and then eventually stopped and sat patiently, looking up expectantly at her with a robotic smile, "mouth" wide in excitement.
Jasper smirked, halting her playing for a moment to squat down and scoop the cat up, giving him a nice perch on her shoulders. She picked up her playing again, just in time for her solo, though she had to stand a little more still to not rock the cat so much. Thankfully, that was better for fast, accurate playing.
Opal picked up in her place, hopping in place while she played, trying to kick the crowd up into high gear.
It was closing in on the finale. The lights dimmed again as if holding its breath. Soon the Rock Candy melody transitioned back into the Void Katz synth performance, morphing once more to a somewhat recognizable tune, but only for a moment before the song took a new turn. This last song was one the two bands had written together especially for this show, showcasing everyone's talent as confetti and streamers and strobe lights finished the performance off.
"Thank yoooou, Apricuuus!! Let's kick off the next half~! Oh also check out Rock Candy's new album, you'll love it!"

"I made the team!"
"Looks like I came back at the perfect time.~ Now I get to see our dear sweet BonBon show up those other nations." Amorette cooed affection pinch Bonnie's cheek, though her gaze linger on the monitor displaying the roster of the Apricus team.
"....." Nava noticed the other girls apparent interest in the lineup. "Amorette?" Before she could ask any further questions Amortte snapped out of her daze.
"It been forever since I've kept up with Hecaball, but you guys have some cuties on the teams now, huh?" She giggled, swiping through the member profiles. Lingering on the Leviathans' representative longer than she knew she should have.
