I know I keep repeating this, but I'm getting annoyed with people mockingly calling any tall, skinny character a "tumblr sexyman" bait. Especially when a lot of their mocking comes from hating them because they don't like their design or are just annoyed by their popularity.

Not every character is a sexyman bait because their tall and skinny. I hate to bring up Sans again, but he literally contradicts all those "tall and skinny sexyman" mold that the fandom thinks. Heck, he won the sexyman poll on twitter for a reason.

That's not even getting to other popular sexyman like Spamton, Bill Cipher and Spamton (despite what the fanart tells you, they also break the sexyman mold as Sans) or lesser known ones like Bob Velseb, Peppino and DJ Subatomic Supernova.

It's fine if certain characters don't appeal to you, but stop trying to make it look like they're trying to pander to certain fans because they aren't for you.

… the spider’s mechs were very well made, but also very tiny. So it was easy to deal with.

Listeners, here’s something strange, a skeleton, you know, like those commonly found in Old Town, is on the outside of my booth. He seems bored, as most skeletons are. I can’t imagine the existence of being a sentient skeleton. Then again, I suppose that’s all we are, just wrapped in flesh and stuffed with a little bit of straw and bugs.

Oh, another red envelope! Must be telling me who this fella is!

[tearing paper]

Ah. Mhm. Okay. So this skeleton is named Sans Undertale. What a unique name! You know Comic Sans is one of my favorite fonts!

This fine skeleton is dressed in a light blue hoodie, black gym shorts, and pink fluffy slippers. Wow! Sans here should be a runaway model, where only the most fashionable people run away in terror. I’d vote for him there.

He now seems to be sleeping, he has eyelids somehow, but I also have eyelids somehow.

You know listeners, come to think of it, this fashionable fella might be my new competition in this “sexyman competition”. Now I can’t compete with his fashion sense, i’m just in the usual radio host garb, plus a cool bleached jean jacket, like The Beatles wore when they all had mustaches, and played on mustaches.

Oh I should put on one of their records later! I love the one wear it’s just Paul McCartney screaming “THIS IS NOT US! THIS IS NOT US! THIS IS NOT US!” and there’s the sounds of fire and shattering glass. A classic!

And now, The Community Calendar.

On Monday Dark Owl Records will seemingly be on fire, Michelle Nguyen and her girlfriend Maureen will be totally fine about it, and say it’s a statement on the music industry cannibalizing itself. They will be trying to light candy cigarettes with the fire and failing and laughing at people who try to help. The fire will end with the building miraculously being okay.

This Tuesday the Vague Yet Menacing Government Agency will be holding a surprise party. Be alert! Prepare for the surprise at any time! Be wracked with paranoia! What was that?!

Wednesday is. It just is. Accept it.

Thursday we will all stare at the sky and smile, until the existential crises set in.

Friday will be worth about $2.67 and a cool rock

Saturday is the city wide Block Party, bring your favorite block and compete in the block race!

Sunday is a limited run NFT worth thousands of dollars initially that will be worthless within about 24 hours.

Back to our guest in studio. I don’t know what to do about him. He’s still sleeping and it’s rude to wake someone up who’s sleeping.

I’ll tell you what, I’m going to have a nice long think and consider what to do. While I do that, you all can go to the weather.

Okay so while the weather played, I talked with Sans. He is genuinely a nice guy and seemed to not be concerned about the whole thing. He didn’t even sign up for the competition, much like me.

So we had a kinship there.

The last of the votes are rolling in as I speak. Sans is still here just giving me a nonchalant thumbs up, which I am returning.

Ah, here is the results. This is a bigger envelope than last time, still red though.

Sans is shaking his head no.

It appears I have won listeners. And there’s a Burger King style cardboard crown in here that says “#1 Tumblr Sexyman 2023”. And a $25 gift card to the Burger King in the mall food court.

I might use it if the pythons which infest it are removed, though reportedly, they make some mean burgers. Something to consider.

I can see Sans leaving the studio, with a taller skeleton, I guess this is Papyrus, his brother.

I think this is a nice ending, though I must say, I think my husband, Carlos, deserves the title of sexyman much more than me.

i very much agree with your post abt keeping certain fandom things out of a streamers chat/donos but i think it should be acknowledged that scar has never been outwardly uncomfortable with jokes abt his character being painted in a “sexy” light. he laughed abt the poll and the “propaganda” and asked why people didnt tell him about it. scar is very aware that people draw his character in a certain way and mentions/laughs abt it on stream often, even liking art or jokes. ofc common sense is a thing, and for most ppl telling a creator something overly personal or saying that you draw suggestive/nsfw art of them is (rightfully) weird asf. i dont think every single thing has to be stated as a boundary by a content creator for fans to just understand that its weird to do/bring up, but i think theres also a place to say that scar (as far as i know) has never shunned these jokes or comments, and often joins in

(im very much /nm over this, just wanted to mention smthn that went through my head when i saw your post, sorry.)

In my mind, this is not a matter of boundaries, though that applies in the fact that all human interactions are about boundaries and manners, as much as it is a matter of politeness and kindness. I might watch all of Scar's videos, but I don't actually know Scar, and importantly, he doesn't know me. One of the reasons that it's impolite to tell streamers that someone famous just died is that you're trying to get a reaction out of them, for your entertainment. Telling someone that they were in a sexyman tournament is still trying to get a reaction out of them, and they didn't get to choose if they want to engage with that a) at all, or b) right now.

When someone is streaming, or at a Q & A, or something of that nature, they are at work. They can't leave right now. Whether or not he's expressed amusement or approval of hot guy art, it is impolite to bring up something that is potentially contentious, like a sexyman poll, in a situation where half of the conversation can't leave.

Like, I ran the sexyman poll. I'm a mod on a pin up calendar for hotguy art. I would not have done those things (maintagged!) if I thought it was baseline inappropriate to do, or for CCs to know about. But I still think there's a time and a place to bring things up, and TTS is not the place.

There is a huge difference between someone deciding to go into the art tag and like some fan art, or bringing up jokes on their own time, and between someone conversationally grabbing them by the face and going NOW PAY ATTENTION TO THE FACT THAT I THINK YOU"RE SEXY. It is vitally important to me that creators are able to choose their level of engagement with fandom, and TTS or bringing things up in chat takes that choice away from them.

They get to bring it up to us, we don't bring it up to them, because we are not their friends, and they don't know us.

The CC's Responses to the MCYTBlr Sexyman Polls, Thread 4: This Is Getting Seriously Out Of Hand

welcome welcome welcome all and sundry to the fourth thread we've had to make on this topic, because folks, there is a LOT of material!

our name is Keys and we'll be your host for... the rest of this event, since nobody else is really doing anything else like this. since we're on thread four, i figured i might as well let y'all know what's going on here and a quick recap of what we've been covering, as well as some facts and questions that literally nobody has asked.

if you are anywhere in MCYTBlr and indeed in other fandoms here on Tumblr, there's a good chance you've heard about the MCYTBlr Sexyman Polls, which I've helpfully put in the title of this post so that people don't get confused! if you haven't, though, the polls themselves are hosted by the @mcytblrsexymen blog and are heavily inspired by Tumblr's own Sexyman Polls of 2022, but specifically for the MCYT fandom. they've been going on since Feb. 5th, 2023, or 6 days ago as of today, with the later polls often gaining upwards of 20,000 votes!

if you want to see all of the shenanigans and hijinks going on within the fandom (and subfandoms) itself here on tumblr, the best place to get a good luck at all of that is at the blog itself, which I linked above. fellow journalist @salemoleander has also whipped together some INCREDIBLE short videos going over the events and tragedies of this event since day 1, one of which I've been featured on myself!

this thread, and all threads before it, which if you're interested are linked to in my pinned post on my blog, are focused rather on the nominees' reactions and responses to this poll. i take screenshots on Twitter to post here, and also try and get stream clips to quote, although since I never watch streams this is a bit difficult for me. i also have done an interview with a nominee himself, and with one of the mods on the official blog itself!

FAQ

Q: Lots of nominees are campaigning really hard for themselves. Are you going to cover that? A: I have before, yes, but to keep things as unbiased as possible in the spirit of journalism I'm probably just going to drop that. Sorry Joe Hills.

Q: There's a lot of people submitting things as soon as they happen to the blog itself. If that's going on faster than you can cover it yourself, then what's the point of this? A: Well, this has always been something we've been doing for fun. I assume people follow the main account as well if they follow me for this, but they can get their news fresh from the spigot there. I'm just here to make funny jokes about it and vibe.

Q: I've seen you refer to yourself as "we" and "us" sometimes despite maintaining that you're just one person running the blog- what's up with that? A: That is not a typo! The person behind this blog (hello, that's me, I'm typing this) is plural, and in fact we are very casually open about it. We regularly switch between referring to ourself as "us" and "we." This is an advantage in several ways because not only can we accurately pull off the "over to you, Keys! over to you, Keys!" joke like, forever, it also provides some Headmate Enrichment™️ whenever someone wants to join in on the fun. Also plural people are just inherently cool and wouldn't you want to have a cool person bringing you news?

Q: Where's the Dominion coverage of this? A: We have made the executive decision to not include the Dominioners since they have single-handedly made our life hell and made up half of our second thread. No hard feelings.

And now to the actual reporting.

JoeHills and ZombieCleo have been spotted campaigning quite heavily for themselves over on Twitter, as per the norm the past few days!

Martyn has been spotted on his stream voting!

Quackity made a tweet yesterday evening saying he didn't know what he won but thanks anyways!

Also, this isn't exactly a nominee update nor an external one but shhh, the polls have gone live during the U.S.A Superbowl. This is hilarious to me because our father is a huge sportsball fan and this is like, gay person sportsball for the rest of Tumblr. Godspeed to the mods.

Also, the only thing I'm ever saying about it, that poll was presented as the cc/multiple versions of that cc were "tumblr sexyman."

Wilbur Soot is a conventionally attractive white guy in a band who was labeled the pretty boy of the first server he was ever on. Dude was never a Tumblr sexyman. Some of his RP characters went close to it, but most of the time? Nah. It was people playing into the fact that Wilbur is attractive and bringing that into the characters.

Wilbur likes to be told he's looking good and is far too particular about his guitar boy streamer brand to really say any of the silly/wet cat vibes he sometimes gives aren't intentional on his part (see the Tetris Stream. The Ace Race Finale).

Like, conventionally attractive boy with a guitar being constantly portrayed in fandom as something similar just doesn't fit any of the vibe. Wilbur isn't fun because he's a wet cat that fandom portrays as attractive. He's fun because he's an attractive guy the fandom attaches fail head canons and plays up the pathetic aspects of to keep him humble. There's a difference.

He didn't have any business in that poll and now I am freeeee from seeing anything about it <3
