Note
can you pls explain to a non-american what is the whole deal with this election? I can’t find a decent unbiased explanation
This is so vague, where do I start? From scratch?
So, in the US every 4 years we elect a new President, which most non-Americans know.
We also have a bicameral legislature with two houses, the House of Representatives and the Senate. Senators are up for re-election every 6 years, and House members are up for re-election every 2 to 4 years.
With that in mind, then, the US actually holds 1 election every year with every even year being a federal election and the odd years being limited to local and state-level elections.
What this means is that every even-numbered year, 1/3 of the Senate is up for re-election, and ALL of the House is up for re-election. This is also true during the Presidential years but it is overshadowed by the Presidential election.
The Midterm happens to be the 4 year mark for the Representatives with the long terms as well, so (factoring in our 3-branch system) during the Midterm approximately 20% of the Federal government can be overturned. That's why it's such a big deal.
Now, everybody was expecting a big turnout for the Republicans this year because of all the dissatisfaction with the gas prices, inflation, and radical left wing policies such as forced gender ideology and sexualization of children, the grating propaganda, demonization of political opponents, and the left's loss of traction with minorities, as well as their draconian forced vaccination campaign in late 2021/early 2022. Republicans were leading strongly in the polls.
What happened was a lot less spectacular than anticipated. Although some states pulled in key victories, ultimately not much has changed about the party composition of the House and Senate from where we were before. Significantly, the Senate is currently at a tie being evenly split between Democrats and Republicans, literally 50 members to 50 members. Since party members usually vote with their party, if the Senate remains this way, the Vice President Kamala Harris will cast tiebreaking votes, according to the Constitution.
However, there are 3 Senate races still undecided. It appears likely that one will go Republican, the other will go Democrat, and the 3rd, in Georgia, will be too close to call and will have to go to a runoff election.
If a Democrat wins this runoff election in Georgia, we will have a tie in the Senate, with the Democrat Kamala Harris as tiebreaker. If a Republican wins the runoff, the Republicans will control the Senate. Let me know if that answers your questions.

Politico
Oct. 30, 2022
SAVANNAH, Ga. — Sen. Jon Ossoff isn’t on the ballot this year. But he’s leaping into Georgia’s midterm campaigns, restarting the organizing machine that helped turn the state blue as Democrats scramble for every tool to prevent Georgia — and the Senate — from flipping back.
Ossoff, who was elected alongside fellow Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock in Jan. 2021 runoffs, is revving up a field organization that tested innovative ways to get unlikely-to-vote citizens to turn out two years ago. The methods helped mobilize Democratic voters in enough numbers to flip the Senate.
The stakes are just as high now. Recent public polling shows this year’s race between Warnock and Republican Herschel Walker remains a dead heat, even amid revelations of numerous scandals around Walker. The state could once again determine the balance of power in the 50-50 Senate. And Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer was caught on a hot mic Thursday telling President Joe Biden that the race was “going downhill.”
But Ossoff believes that a strong field operation can change the electorate, and he’s spending six-figures from his own leadership PAC account to try, according to his campaign aides.
“We’ve demonstrated since 2017 that continually investing in organizing, especially young voters, is so important, and so I’m using the organization that I’ve built and putting it back to work,” Ossoff said in an interview with POLITICO, after launching a canvass effort in a strip mall parking lot alongside Warnock, Democratic House candidate Wade Herring and Savannah Mayor Van R. Johnson.
Ossoff’s efforts join a sprawling network of field operations in the state, spearheaded by Warnock and Democrat Stacey Abrams, who is running for governor. A number of get-out-the-vote nonprofits are also involved, as Democrats look for a way to close strong after several weeks of public polling gains by GOP Senate candidates, including Walker.

Beyond Soil: Exploring the Diverse Landscape of Hydroponic Farming
In the realm of agriculture, hydroponics has emerged as a revolutionary method of growing plants without soil, using nutrient-rich water solutions. With its ability to optimize resource utilization, minimize environmental impact, and enhance crop yields, hydroponics is gaining widespread popularity among farmers, growers, and agricultural enthusiasts worldwide. As we progress into 2024, the Hydroponics Market continues to experience exponential growth, driven by factors such as increasing demand for fresh produce, urbanization trends, and the pursuit of sustainable farming practices. This article explores the key trends, market dynamics, and factors shaping the Hydroponics Market in the coming years.
Market Overview:
The Hydroponics Market is witnessing robust growth, with a projected Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) exceeding 10% from 2022 to 2024. This growth is propelled by factors such as the growing adoption of soilless cultivation methods, advancements in technology, and the rising popularity of urban farming initiatives.
Key Factors Driving Growth:
Rising Demand for Fresh Produce: With increasing health consciousness and awareness of the benefits of consuming fresh, locally-grown produce, there is a growing demand for hydroponically cultivated fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Hydroponic farming enables year-round production of high-quality, pesticide-free crops, meeting the needs of consumers for nutritious and flavorful food.

GOP Senate candidate Herschel Walker blamed his ex-wife for his “ugly” gay son
Former NFL player Herschel Walker, who is now running for Senate as the Republican candidate in Georgia, called his 23-year-old son Christian Walker “ugly” when he was a baby and “streetwise, dumb as a brick” now. “When I delivered him, he had this long old head,” Walker said in a video of comments he made in 2019 that have resurfaced online. “No, seriously. He looked like an alien. I told my wife, ‘Have your parents got some awful genes and stuff?'” “You said, no matter how ugly your child is, you think he’s pretty,” he went on. “So they clean Christian up and stuff, and they clean him up, and I put the cap on top of his crown and stuff and stuff, and I think, he’s not that bad and stuff.” He said that Christian Walker was next to a newborn girl who Herschel Walker said was “beautiful.” “I’m looking at Christian, and I’m looking at her, and I go, wow, I’m gonna slide her over a little and stuff because everybody’s gonna come to that window and go ‘Wow, that’s a beautiful little girl’ and then they’re gonna look at Christian Walker… ‘Woah, X-Files, like he’s an alien,'” he said. Speaking to soldiers, Herschel Walker described his “dumb as a brick”-streetwise son, Christian, as an “ugly” baby with a “long head” that “looked like an alien” from the “x-files,” and blamed his wife’s “awful genes.” Walker: “Little kids are ugly when they’re …born at first.” pic.twitter.com/bKkAD0ZzhI — PatriotTakes (@patriottakes) November 24, 2022 Walker said that his son, who at that point was 19 years old, was a “smart kid.” “Book-wise, he’s extremely smart. Streetwise, he’s dumb as a brick,” he said. Christian Walker would become a popular gay, conservative TikToker whose shtick is yelling at his phone about everything that angers him, like deadbeat dads, LGBTQ Pride, and Starbucks employees. In another video, Herschel Walker said that he “rounded” his son’s head “every day” and that “made him smart.” He said he learned how to “polish his head” and said his infant son’s head got rounder. Herschel Walker went on to say he “polished” and “rounded” his son’s head “everyday” and then his son “looked like [his] side of the family.” Walker claimed the polishing process on his son’s head “made him smart.” pic.twitter.com/CKnxqadvKY — PatriotTakes (@patriottakes) November 24, 2022 Herschel Walker is facing incumbent Sen. Rev. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) in a runoff election next week on December 6. Warnock got 49.4% of the vote in November’s general election and Walker got 48.5% of the vote. Because of a Georgia law that requires a winning candidate to get over 50% of the vote, Warnock and Walker will face off in a runoff election on December 6. Numerous women have come forward saying that they have had children fathered by Walker or have been pressured to abort their pregnancies by Walker. Christian Walker says that he and his mother had to move six times to escape his father after he threatened to kill them. Christian Walker’s mother and Herschel Walker’s ex-wife Cynthia Grossman – the woman who he asked if she had ugly genes – has said that Herschel Walker physically abused her and threatened to shoot her. Herschel Walker claims that all the new accusations from this year are lies. He has not denied his physical abuse of Grossman, which he claims he doesn’t remember. Herschel Walker has a history of anti-LGBTQ statements, including mocking people who share pronouns and transgender people in the military even though he never served in the military. http://dlvr.it/SdWypV

Lawsuit filed on behalf of the Democratic Party of Georgia, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and Warnock for Georgia (Sen. Raphael Warnock’s (D-Ga.) campaign for U.S. Senate) against Georgia challenging the state’s guidance for early voting before the Senate runoff election. During the Nov. 8 midterm elections, neither Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) nor his Republican challenger Herschel Walker garnered over 50% of the vote total, thus sending the two candidates to a runoff election on Dec. 6, 2022.
On Nov. 12, the Georgia secretary of state’s office issued guidance stating that advance voting — the terminology Georgia uses for early in-person voting — “must begin as soon as possible prior to the runoff [on Dec. 6, 2022] and no later than Monday, November 28th.” Counties can hold advance voting prior to Thanksgiving, but not on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, Nov. 24) or the day after Thanksgiving (Friday, Nov. 25). The guidance also states that counties cannot hold advance voting on Saturday, Nov. 26 based on the secretary’s reading of a 2016 law that states “if such second Saturday follows a public and legal holiday occurring on the Thursday or Friday immediately preceding such second Saturday…such advance voting shall not be held on such second Saturday.”
In Georgia’s advance voting statute, the terminology “second Saturday” refers to the Saturday two weeks prior to a given election. However, contrary to the secretary’s reading of the 2016 law, the plaintiffs argue that the law “guarantees early voting on specific weekend days for primary and general elections and imposes conditions on that mandate, neither of which apply to runoffs” and therefore counties can hold early voting on Saturday, Nov. 26.
