The Stars and Stripes with a Mountain Backdrop (Glacier National Park) by Mark Stevens
Via Flickr:
While walking around the shores of Swiftcurrent Lake with a view looking across those waters to the southwest and mountains of the Northern Lewis Range and Continental Divide. This is located in the Many Glacier area of Glacier National Park. One can see the light dusting of snow that had happened the night prior from a recent front that came through. With the clouds hanging over the mountains, there was a mood that seemed to draw me into the setting and image captured. My thought on composing this image was to align myself to center the flagpole with the American flag and then have a backdrop of the mountains behind it. Given I was doing post-processing work with this image a few days before Veterans Day, I felt that day would add to the memories of my time and service as an Army officer.

It’s cooler and more comfortable for walking around and the wildlife are just starting their days and tend to be more active than they are later on. It’s also the time of day when there can still be mist or fog hanging around from the previous night. A little bit of fog…
