German Aerospace Centre's jet black facades crafted by Rieder

Dezeen promotion: Chapman Taylor Architects has clad the German Aerospace Centre offices in Godesberger Allee, Bonn, with a copper and black concrete facade from materials developer Rieder.

Completed in 2020 for Munich real estate company Fondara, the building is clad in a glass-fibre-reinforced concrete system developed and manufactured by Rieder.

Chapman Taylor Architects designed the -black and copper facade to evoke the appearance of a universe – something that made sense as its main tenant is an aerospace organisation.

"At the German Aerospace Centre's offices, you can allow yourself to conjure up an association of space and universe," explained Rieder.

"Coincidentally, the graceful space black of the facade appears to have been tailor-made for the main tenant of the office complex on Godesberger Allee in Bonn."

"On the other hand, the sharp-edged moulded parts made of glass-fibre-reinforced concrete were individually manufactured for the needs of the building's architecture," the company added.

The geometrical facade was predominately made using Rieder's fibre-glass-reinforced concrete formparts.fab system, coloured liquid black.

These panels were combined with pilasters clad in copper sheets to create a striking contrast.

The flexibility of the material enabled Chapman Taylor Architects to design a facade for the German Aerospace Centre around a window arrangement that best suited the office's interiors.

"With Rieder's formparts.fab, we found the perfect product for the monolithic facade design with a relief-like structure," said Hendrik Wirths, project manager in Chapman Taylor Architects Düsseldorf office.

"The wide range of design options combined with the weight-saving, minimal material thickness was decisive here."

Each sharp-edged formparts.fab panel is individually manufactured from 13-millimetre-thin glass-fibre-reinforced concrete.

Formparts.fab comes in a variety of colours, surfaces and lengths up to seven metres long.

It can also be combined with flat concrete skin panels, allowing it to be easily implemented for architecturally complex facades.

La Religione del Fuoco

Le vaste terre di Croymël hanno visto svilupparsi e morire, nei secoli, una numerosissima quantità di religioni diverse. Dalle più antiche devozioni naniche alle frivole credenze dei fauni. Una delle religioni più interessanti è senz'altro quella del Fuoco. La sua è una storia antica, le cui memorie viaggiano attraverso secoli nefasti. Ormai è rimasto soltanto più un piccolo popolo di uomini a dedicarsi a questo culto. Uomini sparpagliati in pochi santuari nelle terre a Sud di Akarastòr, che continuano a seguire la propria religione nonostante i popoli di quelle terre abbiano da secoli iniziato a seguire altri culti. La religione del fuoco fonda le sue origini nell'Età Barbarica degli umani, quando essi ancora non avevano un tipo di governo e i clan erano sparpagliati e disorganizzati. Ai tempi vi era la credenza che nelle fiamme tremolanti, ardessero le vite di antiche divinità malvagie. Infatti il fuoco era caldo, come la collera, e distruggeva ogni cosa, come un uomo infuriato. Per questo le persone avevano un grandissimo timore del fuoco, ed ogni volta che lo utilizzavano, compivano riti particolari per allontanare o, perlomeno, placare la furia del fuoco. Tali riti nel tempo si trasformarono in vere e proprie funziono religiose; alcuni clan accendevano ogni settimana un rogo al quale tutti si i ginocchiavano e offrivano primizie di stagione. Altri invece limitavano la possibilità di accendere il fuoco solo ad esperti religiosi. Ed ogni volta che un incendio divampava per puro incidente, si credeva che le divinità si fossero arrabbiate, e dunque le funzioni e i tributi si moltiplicavano per brevi periodi. Alla lunga, resi ciechi da secoli di insulse credenze, gli uomini avevano addirittura trasformato quelle antiche funzioni in leggi. Innalzando Templi del Fuoco, in cui si riunivano tutti i giorni a pregare una fiamma ardente I più estremisti iniziarono ad offrire tributi umani. E col tempo tutto sfociò in paura e timore, non solo verso il fuoco, ma anche verso i sacerdoti che ne facevano uso e che esigevano singole vite in cambio di indulgenze collettive. Nel frattempo però, grazie a questo culto, si era formata una setta di alti sacerdoti che pian piano unificò i vari clan realizzando una prima civilizzazione, seppur fondara sul terrore, del popolo umano. Per molti anni parve che il mondo girasse intorno a queste terribili divinità, e gli uomini erano schiavi della religione stessa: vivevano nella paura del Giudizio del Fuoco, che gli avrebbe processati alla loro morte, decidendo se meritavano di bruciare in eterno o essere liberati. Per questo passavano la loro esistenza lavorando solo per generare abbastanza tributi e pagarsi la salvezza dopo la morte. Ma la sopportazione umana ha un limite. E la religione aveva trasformato la vita in schiavitù superando di gean linga quel limite. Ed è così che gli uomini, nel tentativo di liberarsi, intrapresero piccole scaramucce interne ai clan, per poi passare a guerre vere e proprie, con il solo scopo di eliminare altre persone che pareva infangassero il valore umano, condannando l'intero popolo alla dannazzione eterna e dunque costringendolo -secondo quello che era il ragionamento dell'epoca- a pagare nella propria vita per errori compiuti da altre persone. Tutto sfociò in un gran caos generale che porto la popolazione all'autodistruzione. Dopo numerosi anni di conflitti che distrussero quello straccio civiltà che si era creato, le guerre si interruppero e si riformarono nuovo clan, divisi gli uni dagli altri, e ancora più deboli di quanto non fossero un tempo. Nella maggior parte di essi, il Culto del Fuoco venne abolito, e quei pochi che continuarono a seguire tale religione, lo fecero in maniera molto più moderata, stufi di soffrire per nulla. I gruppi che praticavano ancora il culto, si decimarono nel tempo e alla fine i pochi rimasti si ritirarono mano a mano in zone più piccole e infine nei templi in cui vivono ancora oggi. In realtà oggi giorno si tratta di un gruppo socialmente distaccato. Le loro credenze odierne risultano incomprensibili a tutti gli altri che, col tempo, hanno iniziato ad evitarli. La Religione del Fuoco oggi è leggermente diversa da come era in passato. Secondo il culto, nel fuoco risiedono le vite sofferenti degli antenati che non hanno dedicato la propria vita alla propria salvezza. Alla morte di ognuno, il Fuoco lo giudica in base alla sua devozione, e coloro che non si sono comportati a dovere sono condannati a bruciare in eterno, alimentando, con la propria vita, le fiamme. Gli adepti, una volta raggiunti i 15 anni di età, possono scegliere se seguire il culto o meno. In caso di scelta positiva essi devono sottopporsi al Battesimo del Fuoco durante il quale vengono marchiati a fuoco sulla schiena e sul viso. Successivamente entrano a far parte della comunità e dovranno seguire le regole fondamentali del credo. Dovranno seguire le funzioni religiose e le preghiere e dovranno fare falò bruciando parte dei propri averi e del proprio raccolto. Coloro che lo desiderano possono diventare sacerdoti, ma solo dopo aver praticato una serie di dolorosissimi atti di purificazione e dopo essersi amputati una parte del corpo (di solito la mano sinistra) e averla bruciata nel camino del tempio.
