#False Julii corydoras

So, I set an old magnifying glass down next to the fish tank.
Tumblr media
And one of the False Julii Corys decided to check it out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Apparently they found it newsworthy as they went and brought back a friend.
Tumblr media
Eventually the friend got bored, but the first Cory was intrigued and continued their examination for quite awhile.
Tumblr media
I wonder what it was they saw... ???

🌱, 🐾, and I’ll let you pick the last one 🎲
🌱: Green thumb or plant killer?
I'm just gonna assume aquarium plants count, cause I've never tried terrestrial plants before just aquatic ones. And if so yes, depending on what tank. I have a 55 gallon and a 20 gallon which I home to upgrade to a 29 soonish. The plants in my 20 are thriving and there's very little algae. I even managed to relegate some black beard algae, which is notoriously difficult to get rid of, to just one end of a rock. I could just pull the rock put and scrub it off completely but I actually kinda like how it looks. My 55 isn't as great and I'm having some minor algae trouble but that one's still a work in progress anyway.
🐾: Any pets?
Related to that last one, I have A LOT of fish. In my 20 I have 12 neon tetras, 2 corydora paleatus catfish (plan to get 4 more), 2 otocinclus catfish (plan to get 2 more) and a beautiful pearl gourami. The 55 has 24 zebra danios, 6 false julii cory cats, 4 reticulated hillstream loaches, 2 angelfish, and 2 german blue ram cichlids (plan to get 2 more). Obviously I also have Buddy, my Portuguese water dog/shi tzu mix. He still looks like a puppy but I've actually had him since I was 10.
🎢: Do I like theme parks/ fav ride
Yes yes yes yes yes very much yes. Admittedly the only theme parks I've been to are Disney Land and two separate Six Flags parks, unless water parks count, then it would be four Six Flags. I honestly haven't really gone on many rides at Disney Land since the last time I went I was still just a little kid so I couldn't go on many of the bigger things, plus my mom would have had to go with me and she doesn't really like that stuff. However when I first went to Six Flags: Magic Mountain I was significantly older so I could go on much more stuff. I never tried any of the really big roller coasters but I really liked the more medium-sized ones. My fav is a tie between Apocalypse and whatever that Batman themed on is called.

A local fish store recently came under new ownership, and the new owner is so much better than the former one. Knowledgeable, unafraid to look up things he didn't know, didn't push fish on me. Just an overall great experience.
He ordered some endler's livebearers for me that I'm looking forward to getting soon!
I left the store with a school of eight celestial pearl danios, two kuhli loaches (all they had left), False Julii Cory Catfish (Corydoras trilineatus). They only had four the cory cats left, and I want to finish out my school soon. They're such characters!
The kuhli loaches haven't appeared much unfortunately. I hope that they'll make more of an appearance after I finish out their school.

Discus freshwater fish
Tumblr media
The Phantom tetra goes well with other tetras of similar size. Males may claim small territories and occasionally minor battles may occur. The black phantom tetra enjoy being in groups of 6 or more and a slightly shaded tank. This fish can survive out of the water and " walk" as long as kept wet, for a very long time. The albino form is common in the aquarium trade. The blotched upside-down catfish is well suited to aquariums because of its small size (typically 9 or 10 cm or less) and peaceful demeanor. nigriventris prefers bottom feeding on Tubifex (or similar worms), but its main diet consists of algae. Similar to catfish but not in the same genusįirewood catfish, (planiceps) shovelnose catfish Spotted pimelodus, pictus, pictus catfish Needs at least a 2,600 US gallons (9,800 L) tank when mature, even though this does not provide them with the space to show their natural behaviour. One of the most popular Hypancistrus species. Leopard sailfin pleco, clown sailfin pleco Few other species can rival their majestic behaviour, colours and intelligence. Ĭommon pleco, suckermouth catfish, Amazon sailfin catfish Discus are considered by most as the ultimate freshwater aquarium fish. It is a peaceful fish that is best kept in good sized groups (6+) in a mature tank with plenty of shady hiding spots amongst plants, driftwood, slate caves, and PVC pipes. Males and female both have long "bristles" on their nose, the males having distinctly longer ones. The bristlenose genus has at least 59 identified species and many others yet to be named. Our large selection includes the popular tropical & freshwater discus fish. Threestripe corydoras, leopard catfish, false julii cory Peppered corydoras, salt and pepper catfish Disease should not be a concern provided that you maintain the aquarium to standards. The Emerald Cory Catfish is a very hardy and resilient fish. To help control the buildup of detritus in the bottom of your discus community tank you should consider keeping a few bottom feeders like corydoras catfish or plecostomus.Catfish Armored catfish including Aspidoras, Brochis, Callichthys, and Corydoras Long-lasting foods like vegetables and algae wafers should be removed from the tank after an hour before they dissolve or decompose. Try to only feed your fish twice a day, varying the types of food at each feeding, and do not offer your fish more than they can eat within 3 to 5 minutes. To start with, Corydoras species inhabit a totally separate layer of water they mostly are substratal to be specific, they like to stay around the bottom of the tank or aquarium, and they feed on the leftovers that your Discus might not have eaten. Selling discus fish has been my full-time job since 1990, and I launched my online discus fish store in 1994. Among the most suitable tankmates for Discus fish is the Corydoras and the following are a couple of whys and wherefores. Breeding and raising thousands of them over the years, I’ve been able to witness the explosion of exciting new discus fish colors available to hobbyists. If you have an established colony of beneficial bacteria in your tank they should be able to handle the biological load of your tank but over-feeding can result in high ammonia levels beyond the capacity of your beneficial bacteria to handle. Keeping discus fish has been a hobby and passion since the mid 70’s. As that organic debris breaks down, ammonia is produced which can be very toxic for aquarium fish. Find the leading variety of discus fish for sale at The iFISH Store Discus fish are the stunningly beautiful freshwater fish originating from the waters of. The more you feed your fish, the more waste they will produce and any uneaten fish food will sink to the bottom of the tank and collect as organic debris. Though feeding is very important, it is also important that you do not over-feed your discus community tank because this could lead to problems with water quality.

The 40 gallon was moved! It took me around 7-8 hours to tear it down, move it, and set it back up. Most of my cherry shrimp colony survived, along with a handful of pest snails. I have 6 mystery snails(2 more than I thought), 9 eye-spot rasboras(started with 10, there might be 10), 9 harlequin rasboras(started with 10, there also might be 10), and 4 false julii corydoras. I started with 10 corys, but they're just not doing well with my pH so I'm going to return them.
If I'm not overstocked(Im terrible at stocking), could you recommend some cute bottom feeders for a 8.2 pH?

Inktober #9 , Corydoras catfish are a super favorite of mine... these little guys just wiggle about so cutely. There are loads species to choose from, love to have friends, super peaceful, scavengers that help gobble up food that falls to the bottom (but they still need to be fed) I currently have a little school of the “false” Julii, or rather the Corydoras Trilineatus. They are always actively wiggling around the bottom looking for tidbits. They will even wink at you 😉 • • • #inktober #inkotber2019 #illustration #sketch #drawing #ink #penandink #inkart #inkwash #brush #fish #freshwateraquarium #tropicalfish #aquarium #guppy #lukewisner (at Riverside, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3ZyKUHjA4N/?igshid=bz8jr2aatqz5

ik glass surfing is bad on a lot of fish, but im coming up with mixed reviews on corydoras (esp. the false juliis i think i ended up with) doing this that said, i am clearly having some trouble with water parameters (see prior posts) and im worried this is in reaction to that but not all of them are doing it? they're still poking around the substrate or chilling on driftwood. as far as general signs of fish health go, they check out aside from the glass surfing but plenty of folks are mentioning that having lots of reflective surfaces causes them to glass surf. id assume, since they're schooling fish, that the idea of their reflection being another one of them wouldn't be stressful, so im not sure if that's smth to rush to fix or if they're just having fun and being excitable and curious abt their new home
