My daily reminder to not go into a long Tangent to why Dante is an insufferable writer but actually only the second most annoying piece of shit in Italy literature
I have OPINIONS on Italian authors AND I CAN'T SHARE THEM BECAUSE WHO DOES THAT AFTER HIGHSCHOOL
I am very normal and my very normal obsession is with older text
Calvino is a bitch but inoffensive enough to me.
LEOPARDI IS MY MAN I WILL FISTFIGHT FOR HIM ANY MOMENT!

tbh (a good percentage of) italian poetry became super mid the moment we left behind the medieval commune mentality. when we stopped experiencing insular communities shitting bricks over their nearby comune (5km away MAX) we lost the spirit for poetry. during the renaissance the catholic church stemmed this artistic bleeding out with orgies&drugs&corruption but even they failed us in the long run

My teacher reading my essay on pascoli going from me talking about tuono and lampo's symbolism regarding the death of his father to passing onto digitale purpurea's sexual overtones to concluding that he absolutely wanted to fuck his sister

thinking about my death note fic based on giovanni pascoli works that i never got to finish and probably never will. Jessica and Flavius living rent free in my mind. I didn't even get to write L showing up at the cementary uninvited and Jessica being like, "what the fuck is this weirdo doing at the crime scene" and thinking he's a possible suspect.

look, I am perfectly able to balance a historical figure's disturbing or gross views with the quality of their work: one of my favourite poets, Pascoli, had an incestuous relationship with his sister, my favourite writer, Pirandello, was in the fascist party, even with figures I don't really like, such as Verga, imperialistic misogynist 101 who gave us one of the most beautiful passages of Italian literature! but D'Annunzio just has no redeeming qualities his poetry is shit and so is his writing and so are his political views that bitch can fuck off

7, 8, 11 & 13 prego !
7. three words from your native language that you like the most?
in Italian "intrinseco", "mnemonico" and "variopinto", in Sicilian "liscìa" "ritticchio" and "camurrìa"! I just really like the letter R
8. do you get confused with other nationalities? if so, which ones and by whom?
I do, though not very often! Mostly I get mistaken for a Spaniard, though once I was mistaken for a Tunisian.
11. favourite native writer/poet?
oh God oh fuck, this question is the dreaded unanswerable question to me! I'm going to say Luigi Pirandello, Goliarda Sapienza and Dacia Maraini for the writers, and Eugenio Montale, Giovanni Pascoli and Salvatore Quasimodo for the poets.
13. does your country (or family) have any specific superstitions or traditions that might seem strange to outsiders?
(going to go with Sicily here) horns that are actually dicks and bring good luck, a general love of all that relates to fertility symbols (see cannoli and minne di Sant'Agata), snakeskins bringing good luck, the Evil Eye like as a concept, so many things tbh
