Magdalene: Otz? I'm not going to marry him!
Heddy: Are you sure there are better prospects for you in this town? Don't tell me you'd prefer the Gertner boy.
Magdalene: I'd rather leave Tassing and see what else is out there.

I think one of my favorite things about Pentiment are the Sommerfelds. I love Benjamin being such a nice guy, Rachel is so fucking funny, I love that they’re wearing green!!! I love Benjamin’s Yiddish font design, absolutely spectacular little factoids about their daily life, I love Esther, and what little we see of her story
But what I love most is that we can’t be antisemitic. We *learn* about the inquisition, we *learn* about the Prague ghetto and we learn about the forced conversions from Guy, but the antisemitism is structural, it’s not something the player or the other characters can BE. hell yes! I love that! I love that Agnes will always help Rachel, I love that despite there being a LITERAL MOB, the mob is never threatening them, just. idk, I love it.

it is my personal deeply held belief that Magdalene Druckeryn and Esther Sommerfeld are in lesbians with one another post-Pentiment act III

ever written a fully epistolary fic for any fandom? if not, anything with epistolary elements? (also, and maybe relatedly, I'm curious about if you've written anything/how you would consider writing something about magda and esther!)
I've never written a fully epistolary fic, but I should!
In Search of Antidotes was inspired by various works of Gothic horror fiction, Dracula included, and thus ended up including a number of epistolary elements. And while I wouldn't necessarily call chatfic interludes epistolary, I attempted to employ the Penstagram logs in Several Witches are Typing in a way that was definitely inspired by epistolary fiction. The same could probably also be said of the modern-day codas at the end of each chapter of Stemma Codicum.
I have a couple ideas for totally epistolary Pentiment fic though (it's a game that really lends itself to it, I feel like) -- one told through back-and-forth letters, and one told through a number of different media, including modern-day academic journals. Without spoiling too much of the latter, it's one I really want to write, partially because writing fake academic arguments sounds like a great time.
As for writing about Magda and Esther, there is one idea I've rolled around in my head, because it occurred to me earlier this year that I've never written a Hanukkah fic. The Druckers and the Sommerfelds seem relatively open with sharing certain elements of their respective faiths with each other, and I imagine Magda probably has a pretty emotionally fraught December in 1544, since it's the anniversary of so much happening, so I could see her having some feelings about the festivities in a "my family friends want to include me in something important to them, and that makes it meaningful" sort of way. Not sure if I'll do anything with that, but it does feel like it could be a nice backdrop for something sweet with the two of them.
