I had a dream about the Demon Submas brothers seeing their Darling with bruises or even a split lip or something, from one of the few times they were too distracted by something else to be actively watching her- like perhaps a "problem" they had to deal with, like Elesa saw that one time.

They're freaking out, furious that something had DARED to harm their Darling, she seems so tired too! When she speaks her voice cracks and is hoarse, like she'd been screaming her lungs out! What an ordeal she must have gone through! Ingo is the one who can keep it together well enough to be able to ask her what happened...

And this is how they find out Darling is a closet metalhead who can and will go ballistic in a good mosh pit and thinks a great time consists of getting absolutely bodied in one of those things where two walls of people charge at each other and collide in the middle. Where being picked up and put on a stranger's shoulders to fist-fight someone else in the middle of the mosh is a Good Time.

Like, there's Darling just sitting there with a cup of tea and dressed modestly like you'd expect her wild nights to be visiting the library or getting a cup of coffee, and she's just casually saying "Oh, yeah, I had tickets to a death metal concert. Sodomy Lobotomy's gigs are always crazy, I think I broke a few ribs at one I went to last year. Good times!"

The brothers were so, so confused, relieved and concerned all at once.

This is hilarious to me Anon; I don't personally listen to heavy metal or anything (Metal gives me the anxiety) But like...

They were distraught.

For one night- For one, singular night-

They had had to take their eyes off of you. Another Eldritch Demon was getting a little too close for their comfort, evidently snooping around as to why the great Kudari and Nobori had suddenly decided to abandon their abode and dwell among mere mortal humans-

It needed to be dealt with, of course- Aaand it may've taken a fair bit more time and effort than they'd originally intended to take- But no matter! Gear Station was safe, as were you- And no one was any wiser. They returned to their abode, ensuring you were okay; And you were. It was the early morning hours and you'd be getting up soon, so they prepared for your arrival at Gear Station instead! Happy to greet their beloved little soulmate, to talk to you, to hear you speak to them...!

Ingo was particularly happy- It was, after all, him who finally managed to kill their bastard nosy neighbor before it would manage to tear apart the fabric of time and space in this reality. If you'd known, you'd be hugging him tightly and thanking him, wouldn't you? He closed his eyes as his mind drifted to fluffy daydreams- Humans could be very cute worrying over little things. Would you fret and fawn over him and Emmet if you'd known they'd been in a life or death battle just a few hours ago? Kissing his face, asking if he was wounded, asking if he wanted to hold you, anything to make him feel better- Maybe you'd bring in some sweet or something for the Depot Agents that he could steal a taste of.

Yes, you'd be very sweet for him- Emmet was thinking similar thoughts, though he intended to act a little on them- You wouldn't mind if he hugged you a little more than usual today, would you? Of course not, of course not! And if he told you of how he'd nearly gotten electrocuted on the train tracks, maybe you'd fret over him- You were so cute when you worried over him, paying attention to him-!

Until you did arrive at Gear Station.

Agent Ramses was your supervising agent today, which... would be interesting. Ramses was not one for liking to supervise anyone or anything; He was much more an engineer than a baby sitter, and you were... quite a baby to him, the way his bosses coddled you. It didn't matter to him that you were their precious soul-whatever, just that you could do your work well! He'd be shoving you off onto Jackie, or maybe even making you do inspection work with the Bosses themselves- Yeah, that could work- As quickly as possible. Just anything to get you out of his hair for the day-

"M-morning, sir." You remarked weakly, raising your hand in a salute.

Ramses looked over you, feeling his blood turn cold and his stomach drop.

Your face-

You had tried to cover it with makeup, but there was a strange cut on your cheek- Not to mention your busted up lip. And your voice. He was used to hearing it much louder- and much more chipper. Your arm quivered as you held it up, and you dropped it much quicker than normally; Evidently hurting to raise it even as much as you had to for the salute.

"Good morning, Miss- You feeling alright this morning?"

"Eh, a little tired- But otherwise- g-good!" You smiled weakly. "A-Am I to report to the Bosses this morning?"

"Of course, But-"

"Alright, I'll be right, b-back!" You waved and walked away fast- Faster than Ramses could stop you.

"What's the matter, Ramses? You look as pale as Lord Emmet's coat."

Ramses turned to Jackie, who'd just walked up- Evidently expecting that he'd want to get you off his back as soon as possible. Though Jackie did not like the expression written on his coworker's face-

"Their- The Bosses'- uh, that- that girl-" He stuttered out, evidently at a loss for words-

"Slow down there, Ramses- What's wrong with the Lady?"

"She's-She's been injured, Jack."

And Jackie adopted the same horrified expression that Ramses' face portrayed.

Oh no.

Well, the Depot Agents would certainly pity- Or well, probably not- the fool who'd touched you.

Emmet and Ingo were blissfully unaware of any problem- They were simply eagerly awaiting your arrival. Emmet reacted first when he heard the door swing open, practically jumping up from his desk to greet you; His cute, sweet little love-!

Until he got a better look at your face.

The smile Emmet wore faltered, and his eyes went wide as he looked at you closely.

"G-good morning-! Er, Sir?" You remarked, cursing yourself silently- Your voice was still so strained and hoarse... Noticing how Emmet's face fell- He looked like he'd seen a ghost, for goodness' sake. Surely you didn't look that bad, right?

...What had happened to you, Emmet thought? Your precious, beautiful face- a cut there, your lip red and swollen slightly- And your voice sounding like-

Who had done such a thing to you? Who would dare touch you-

Emmet felt his blood boil- Or at least, what could be considered his blood. The scum that had touched you- The absolute filth- He would raze Unova if he had to to find the bastard- The thoughts running through his mind turning to darker and darker violence- Whom would he have to kill- No no, killing was too light a punishment-

You weren't exactly sure what Emmet was suddenly thinking- the way his expression went from shocked to sad to- something dark. It was difficult to place it, but suddenly you felt rather scared.

Ingo wasn't much better off, but luckily, he'd moved behind you- The shadow cast on his face from his cap darkened impossibly so, shadowing his face- His eyes glaring out with a silver light, leering at you painfully. Who- Who had dared to hurt you-?

He needed to find out immediately.

"Oh dear, are you alright?" He asked, trying to maintain his calm-

"O-Oh, I'm f- fine, S-sir..." You tried to speak, but your voice was still hoarse and you were evidently trying to hide something from them- Why were you having so much difficulty speaking? You sounded like you'd been screaming your lungs out...

Had your attacker driven you to such terror, Emmet wondered?

It nearly broke Ingo's heart- His shadows coiled under your shirt, around your arms and legs- Feeling your injuries- Was that a broken rib?! And not only that, you were trying to hide it from them- Why? Why? Did you not trust them? Did you think they'd be angry at you? No, no, no no no!

All thoughts of your comfort were out of their mind- You evidently needed comforting, far more than they did, fragile little human that you were- Who had nearly killed you? Who'd hurt you? Who must they obliterate for you?

Emmet felt something strange pricking at his eyes- His vision growing bleary with tears. Of course he would cry- His beloved little Darling Soulmate, precious and sweet and wonderful and innocent and cute and everything else-

Had nearly died while they had been trying to protect you.

What sort of eldritch-whatever-they-are were they if they had failed in their one, sworn duty? To protect you? What would be left if they returned to Nimbasa, only to be greeted by you in an emergency room or worse, already dead? They'd spent so long seeking you out- They'd have to return to the void, waiting for any glimmer into where your soul had ended up next, or even worse, another Eldritch Demon could've gotten to you-

No, absolutely not.

They would simply have to increase their security around you. More protection, they'd have their servitors tail you even outside the station- Why had they not assigned them to guard you while they were gone? They'd assumed the protective charms around Gear Station and around your apartment would be more than enough!

How stupid of them.

Never again.

"D-Dear," Ingo began as he turned to face you, his voice notably darker- Low toned and intensely serious, as he looked you over. "Who- How did you get that injury on your face?"

You smiled sheepishly- Was that what they were worried about? Granted, you'd tried to cover up your bruises- But you couldn't exactly hide all of your injuries. They'd probably reprimand you for putting yourself in danger- But it's not like it'd impede your work! Well actually, what you'd been doing last night would have impeded your work- But Jackie had refused your request for time off today, and so in you came; Though you were in a lot of pain, it was your own darn fault.

"Well, Sir... It's nothing much, I was just, uh-" You adjusted the cap on your head, a blush of embarrassment spreading across your face as your two bosses leaned ever closer to you. "I was at a... uh, rock concert."

"A- A concert?"

Emmet closed his eyes for a second.

"There were no rock concerts happening last night." He suddenly said- You flinched. Could he not just- accept the little white lie? You were at a concert, but- You weren't going to admit just what band you'd actually gone to see!

"No, no- I- did go to see a concert last night, it was a music concert! It uh, the band wasn't actually rock though, it was uh, something else."

"What something else?" Emmet asked- His smile bright- His eyes seeming to almost sparkle in the light of the office. You stared back at him.

Maybe, you thought- You can tell them the truth.

Yes. That sounded like a good idea, suddenly.

You reached in your pocket and handed Ingo a small piece of paper- For a... rock concert?

Ingo stared at it in confusion, a new look of concern dawning on his face.

"S-Sodomy... Lobotomy?" He remarked, his voice dripping with anxious bewilderment. He knew what those words meant- What they meant in combination he couldn't even begin to imagine, and the imagery in the background of the ticket reminded him of several Eldritch demons he'd seen before- Weaker ones, of course, but- Why on Earth did you have... whatever this was?

"Well, Sir... I... actually really like their music, and they were performing last night, so I decided to splurge and go out to hear 'em! It's uh-"

"How did going to a music concert result in you being hurt? Did someone attack you at the concert?"

You couldn't help it- Even with your bruised stomach and back, you started laughing. "Yeah Sir, someone did attack me at the concert- The entire crowd!"

Now it was Emmet's turn to be concerned. "You- You mean, the entire crowd at a music concert tried to fight you, and you managed to get away with only those injuries? Why did they try to fight you?"

"I mean I was in the mosh pit, Sir!" You looked at him curiously- Had your bosses never heard of a mosh pit...?

Both of them tilted their heads at your words. Evidently not.

"Oh, it was craaaazy last night. Some guy picked me up and I got thrown head first into this crazy lady and we started punching each other. But yea, she ended up cutting my lip before her... girlfriend? I dunno, this like- six and a half foot tall woman who- lemme tell you, she was built like a machamp, grabbed me and threw me back into someone else's arms and then-"

And the two sat horrified, enraptured, and disturbed by your stories of the "mosh pit" you'd willingly entered last night to duke it out with strangers while listening to... "music"? You'd even managed to break bones at previous concerts! How terrible- And you'd attended these events multiple times??

They demanded to hear what the "music" sounded like- And you sheepishly pulled up a song on your X-transceiver to play, expecting your bosses' opinion of you to immediately tank into the drain. But Emmet and Ingo didn't seem to dislike it, or even really- flinch at the songs? The content of what lyrics they could discern sounded horrific- but otherwise, it just sounded like the noises their neighbor was making while they stomped them into the primordial void of non-existence- Set to some sick drum riffs. No wonder it incited such violence in humans.

You lit up the moment your bosses began remarking that it didn't sound bad- But they were still so very concerned about your injuries! You did not need to be working today- You needed to be resting! Bruised and battered- Gear Station had no need for you collapsing or worse during your work day!

And not only that, but you liked going to such things...?

That wouldn't suffice. If you enjoyed them, sure- But they could not tolerate you being injured the way you were! The two would simply have to accompany you the next time you attended such a concert- Protecting you and watching over you! And beating the crap out of anyone who might try to hurt you-

"If you two want to go to one, you can- But I'll have to teach you some etiquette for it- It'd be a shame if you two got injured or something worse." Emmet bit his lip- It didn't matter if it was a mosh pit of two people or the entirety of Unova, no amount of people in the pit of moshing would be able to injure him! Though- The idea of you fretting over him was sweet... Trapped in his arms as he valiantly protected you from any idiots who would think they'd have the right to deck you!

"So we may accompany you the next time you attend such an event?" Ingo asked, offering you some tea. The two had forced you to sit down on the sofa they had in their office, and were practically refusing to let you up again. It was silly, you thought- Treating you like a fragile little Swaddle!

But either way- That sounded strangely- Nice. Your bosses were usually so reserved, refusing any invitations to go out, and you almost never saw them outside of Gear Station doing anything for themselves- Enigmatic, mysterious- It might be nice to get to know them outside of work a bit more! And if they liked moshing, if they liked death metal- Well, having friends in the pit was always a good thing! "Of course! I'll let you guys know the next time I go to a concert, if you can make it."

"Of course. But for now- You need to rest. I would prefer if you stayed until someone was able to accompany you back home..." Ingo remarked, suddenly lost in thought. You scoffed at his worry- You were more than capable of handling yourself-!

And you tried to get back up, stumbling as you stood up- The room reeled around you, and you collapsed back down on the couch- Looking up at Ingo, who- Looked odd, though you could not place why- He bent down to you, His eyes meeting yours intently. His silver, shining, eyes.

"Since you're injured... and not feeling well, stay here. We'll escort you to your destination once our work is complete." Ingo stated as he grabbed you gently, laying you back down on the couch- The last half of his statement... was more a fact? Than a suggestion or an offer... Your eyes closed heavily, suddenly overcome by a terrible urge to sleep.

Maybe you'd been more tired than you'd thought, after the night at a concert... And you immediately closed your eyes, deep asleep again. Ingo sighed heavily, moving to position you comfortably on the couch.

They were far too nervous to allow you to wander about on your own right now. Their own senses heightened in fear and possessiveness as Ingo sat down and rested your head on his lap, bringing his hand down onto your shoulder and stroking mindlessly as his shadows coiled around you tightly. Emmet whined in annoyance, wanting to do the same. A feathery-tendril emerged from the sleeve of his coat, whisking over your face- and making the painful cut on your lip heal over.

Their little soulmate; Precious, small, and most importantly, safe. In their arms. Also apparently insane, and, enjoys becoming battered and bruised. Not good, they noted- But they would just have to keep you safe. Their little soulmate. Theirs. All theirs. Ingo squeezed your shoulder harder than he'd been doing, and Emmet grabbed at your hand, a soft light coming from him- Healing your injuries.

You could attend such events for now; But to allow yourself to be hurt? No. Absolutely not. You wouldn't even notice anymore that your body wasn't sore, or your voice didn't hurt. They could muddle your memory that much as they healed you. And kept you safe, secure, and by their sides.

Thoughts on UnoVA so far:

Starting to get tired of Giovanni showing up in every villain arc. You already got two whole villain arcs to yourself, my dude. Unless this is building up to some big Neo Team Rainbow Rocket or something, Giovanni ought to just take a back seat and let the other villains be villainous all on their own.

The tonal whiplash of going straight from Ghetsis's "I'm going to fuse the three dragons and take over the world" to "walk walk fashion baby" with Elesa and Hilda isn't great from a writing perspective, but it is really funny.

So...no explanation for how Hilda got a Victini? That's disappointing. (It could be in Hilda's sync pair story, I haven't checked it out yet, but I'd prefer they explain it in the story proper when they hand out random legendaries and mythicals.)

Hugh and Colress's writing is absolutely on point, their personalities and motivations are spot on! So delighted to see them again.

I'm not saying that the Hugh and N plotline is a Spe reference, but...we now have two different adaptations of B2W2 with a plotline where N gets kidnapped by Team Plasma because of his dragon(s), N meets Hugh while in captivity, Hugh helps N escape captivity, and they liberate a Pokémon from Team Plasma along the way. And Spe did it first. So make of that what you will.

One thing I will say Masters did better than Spe is making the dynamic between N and Hugh more interesting. They're literally the brains and the brawn. I love it.

Of course, that's not to say that Masters!Hugh is a complete idiot; he was the one who came up with the escape plan. Also, I have a feeling he knows who N is...you don't just say "hey, you're smart? the king of Team Plasma was smart too" to somebody unless you suspect they were the king of Team Plasma.

Still wish Hugh's partner was Flygon or Eelektross, but...the buffalo's expressions are pretty cute. He can stay.

Love the explanation for why Genesect teamed up with Hilbert. N said "find a kind person like Hilbert" and Genesect just picked "find Hilbert". I'm a-okay with him getting Genesect now.

Though that still begs the question of why on earth Hilda got Victini instead of Rosa, considering how arbitrarily it was given out...I'm sure they were already planning UnoVA when they were making the SC Rosa event, they could've easily made someone else the tour guide to let Rosa get the spotlight in the VA instead. That way she could get team-up and victory lines and the villain arc protags would represent both games from the gen, instead of just BW.

It's a little weird that Hilbert's Sygna Suit is being released in a couple days when he hasn't gotten the Sygna Suit in-story yet...but I guess he has teamed up with Genesect, so that's close enough?

This VA has reminded me that I really wish we got a little more background on the Shadow Triad. Iirc it's stated in the games at some point that they're incredibly loyal to Ghetsis because he saved their lives, but I'd love to know how and why that happened. They're cool characters, I want to see more of them.

Colress's reaction to the Shadow Triad is absolutely hilarious. "Oh, you guys! I can't remember who's who", he says to three characters who use identical models, voice lines, and names 🤣

Sync Pair Retrospective - 2.5 Anniversary

I skipped this cluster as well, because I didn't really focus on the retrospectives of the time, but I figure we can back it up and look at what's happening with the 2.5 Anniversary units. Which will include Serena.

ANNI MAY Anniversary May came out as a sync pair that brought in Psychic Wish, proving that DeNA could provide field effects that existed as moves as a trainer move to avoid ever being flinched out of it. And then never did that again, for some reason.

Anyway, Anni May came into the game in direct competition with Bianca, who was nice and tanky, gave Pep Rally on terrain use, and broadly ruled thanks to Stored Power being such hilarious DPS. Big shoes to fill. Anni May, by contrast, offered special attack buffs for the team, special attack debuffing, and a wildly powerful sync nuke, even for this type. Seriously, I think she outperforms Lear at cap. Though, "at cap" was unreasonable at the time. And while X Sp Atk All was nice, and combined well with someone like Giovanni, you could often just unload that onto a different support, like say NY!Sabrina, who also had applicable Endure with MPR.

May was not an essential sync pair at any point in her life. The PokeFair grid expansions were supposed to be a big break, especially as she got one at a fairly early point. And instead, her new tools were...I mean they're kinda butt. Befuddle and team Gradual Healing? So she poached one of Bianca's defensive tools and gets a very minor special defense debuff. That's not really worth it. What's strange is there's no terrain extension. Like, you'd think there would be, given that every single PokeFair with a field effect got at least extension 3. May got nothing. I'm really hoping that's saved for 3/5 half cost.

My ultimate point here being, May was just an alternate Terrain setter. To a general pool. She would never be bad that way, but the decision to pull her was always something awkward. I love her because Latias, but I'd be lying if I said it was a great look.

ANNI SKYLA The only time I predicted correctly. I called Flying Zone. Wrong person and Pokemon, but Zone type was spot on, because Anni Steven had needed some help. And by god, he got it, with Anni Skyla. Skyla is...look, you know how SS Cyrus and P!Marnie really set the standard for field effect support techs, and how Lucas was good for DPS? Yeah, Skyla's closer to Cynthia, but worse. She offers some speed buffs, and the possibility of flinch or confuse AoE, but with really bad self-setup and like frankly nothing exceptional. 3/5 let her be a tremendous sync nuke, and offered Disarm for support, as well as some odd tanking tools that...I'm not sure if those ever worked out.

The thing is, Skyla would've been much better served had her team buffs been offensive. Look at the roster of Flying types and you'll get the idea of why. Very few of them have issues with gauge. It's basically SS Ethan, who showed up later, Lysandre, and NY!Lance. Everyone else has their own speed buffing ability, and finds this useless. The confuse effect is nice for the DPS of Blue and Winona, but it's a far cry from the breadth of support some of the others presented with.

And oddly enough, even since then, the only beneficiary that's dropped is SS Ethan. Sure, P!Elesa, but her moves are randomly called with Metronome, and Fly is two-turn, so it wastes a lot of your Zone time. And especially doesn't need the speed buffs. It's just...an odd paid that doesn't get a whole lot done. Like at least May has solid self-setup. And yet somehow she doesn't have an expansion on her grid. Figure that out.

ANNI RAIHAN And then there's Fast Ramp McChadman over here. Anni Raihan was the man to scout for, having an absolutely bonkers supportive kit. At a baseline, Sandstorm as a move, trap condition for Gauntlet stuff, applied SEUN to all allies if weather was in effect, and could summon Sun as a Max Move. Adding in grid, you got a 60% flinch chance on Aggravation, and Mind Boggler to debuff special defense. But this doesn't address the main draw, which is just spamming Sandstorm for fun and profit. Every time he does this, the team gets +1 physical and special moves up next. On 3/5 grid, it also gets Propulsion. With the Head Start Lucky Skill from deluxe cookies, Raihan was a full turn saved by himself, while providing huge DPS benefits. Raihan was for real.

And because of how he works, it's hard to really talk about him, because he's broad. The best partners he's had were like Leon, where the Sun and Mind Boggler really improved damage, or with SS Kris where you could stack special moves to +10 pretty reliably. But there wasn't anything that stood out within any particular comp, he was just always good and always present as an option. Even among Sandstorm setters, he didn't strictly change how that meta was played, so much as offer the same shenanigans as everyone else. Though Sandstorm did suffer with Courtney.

And for some reason, he got a grid expansion before Skyla, getting Sun extension (eat it May), and Disarm to debuff offenses while playing pure support. His kit just feels like it has everything. He's even got a powerful sync at his disposal at 3/5 if you want. Raihan's just one of those units that's not specific in any way, but is so good as a technical unit that he applies to just about any team, and that...really hasn't gone anywhere. Raihan's still stupid good.

SYGNA SUIT SERENA After the fairly lukewarm reception of the anniversary units, Serena comes in swinging. Like SS Lusamine before her, she gets a boost to all of her stats upon first sync, as a sort of super mega evolution. Only unlike Lusamine, she's given a 50% multiplier broadly rather than on-type, a full Brainpower instead of Brain Sync 5, and like 200 more special attack. I'm sorry, I am still not over how we went from Anni Lillie's Brain Sync 3 to a full Brainpower in six months. It's so stupid.

Anyway, Serena immediately established herself as one of the best damage dealers in the game. Nothing competed, especially not with the recent Dragon Zone supplied from Lucas. Her only flaw was having nothing but 4-bar moves and no speed buffs, so it made Lucas' Free Moves Next that much more valuable. There was also the issue of needing Restrain for full benefits, and because Serena needed all three turns to cap offenses, she didn't get a chance to use Thousand Waves. So Team Sharp Entry was a really nice thing. Oh hey SS Brendan. Yeah, when he dropped, it was over. +1 crit on trainer move, -2 special defense per hit on Luster Purge, and Freevenge? Even if Serena needed first sync, he compressed so much that it was borderline unstoppable. CS was just blown apart. Serena just packed unprecedented power for her time.

But that was her time, and this is now, and we're far away from what used to be. Serena was at a level of power where on-type was never in question. Off-type was. And as far as off-type goes, the introduction of Dual Rats and C!Marnie have, in my opinion, put her behind the rest. Moreover, even some PokeFairs, like SS Steven and SS Hilda, have been keeping up with her offensive stats, with both offering faster setup and Downside Up, Steven getting moves up next potential, and Hilda offering Recharging Strike for better gauge control. And keep in mind, Serena only keeps up with their offenses after her first sync. There's a serious delay before she's firing on all cylinders, while both of them are one click and full power.

My point here being that, while SS Serena is still one of the biggest damage number sync pairs out there, there are better now, and I think the utility of more recent options has greater value. This isn't to disparage Serena, but Gauntlet always felt a little rough on her when trying to teambuild with lesser tools. Hilda and SS Steven have just had much better performance on the whole. And I think this is what I take away from the 2.5 anniversary. Damage numbers can always be made bigger. But specific utility that's good, will always be good.

For the Melli in modern times AU I can see one of the reasons he starts bonding with Emmet is JOLTIKs. Emmets holding one and Melli is like 👀👀 👁👄👁 omg and Emmet let’s him hold it and Melli is like “a baby”

XD Fun idea! Counter concept, though: Melli's from Hisui, where even what we consider harmless, low-threat pokemon will absolutely destroy you if given the chance (see: paras, shinx, everything except bidoof pretty much). Melli takes one look at Emmet's swarm of joltiks when they get back to the twins' apartment for the first time and is plastered on the other side of the room preparing for battle, swarms are how people die and pokemon don't usually enter peoples' homes like this so these things must be extra aggressive and dangerous-!

Emmet thinks this is hilarious, right up until Ingo confirms that, no, actually, reasonable reaction, he had a moment there himself until the Emmet-and-his-joltiks memories showed back up, yikes.

Emmet gets to go have a quite crisis after this, and Ingo explains about the joltiks and some modern pokemon stuff that's come back to him to Melli.

Because that's something that would take Melli a long time to get used to about modern society, just how present, integrated, and, above all, safe modern pokemon generally are. Other than voltorbs, baby pokemon are probably something you generally only see from a distance, in the wild, and you avoid them, for the same reason that in our world we avoid bear cubs and wolf pups. It's fun to tease Melli about his confusion for a lot of modern things, but there's also a lot of stuff he'd find distressing for pretty legitimate reasons.

One thing I just thought up for them to bond over with the joltiks, though, is this: what if Emmet uses an old railway whistle to train his pokemon that he doesn't use to battle? Fast-forward to extremely engaged six-hour compare-contrast between all three of them on the uses of whistles, celestica flutes, and clicker training!

And I do think eventually that a scene similar to the one you described would come to pass, and Melli’s sitting on the sofa holding a joltik and taking the time to really examine it, since it’s very tame and well-behaved, and discussing the differences between baby voltorbs and these fuzzy little creatures with Emmet, and Emmet getting to really go off about pokemon breeding to someone who’s never heard about it and finds it interesting, if only for the sake of better understanding these creatures that his community back home is struggling to learn to live with.

Also, massive, unwinnable debates for the rest of his time in the future: which are better, joltiks or voltorbs. Neither man will back down. Ingo is silently and stoically laughing at both of them, and (once he relearns how) texting Elesa with snapchats ‘they’re having the joltik-voltorb fight again.’

Naturally pokemon act like their normal counterparts in our world. Yes, Excadrill will absolutely destroy a backyard if left alone long enough to do it (10 minutes). He also is a bit blind like moles and runs into the things if it's particularly quiet wherever he is. Ingo stresses whenever this happens. Excadrill gets to sit in his lap for a while afterwards, while the older twin watches after him.

Emmet wakes up one morning bound in sticky web and sighs. Galvantula was feeling particularly clingy that day it seems. Luckily, he's smart enough to keep a sharp object nearby his bed to escape. The electric spider is very sad to see their dad has easily escaped their trap. Emmet does give extra attention to the poor thing and lets them cling around his midsection all day.

Durant eats shoes. Emmet sneered at the iron any absolutely demolishing a nice pair of loafers with ease. He tried to wrestle the item free, but Durant is a vicious fiend who lays claim to the leather. They also eats scraps of food littered around the station, as ants do and burrows into dirt when given the option. Emmet debates getting them a dirt pool. (He does after the shoe incident.)

Chandelure pretends to be a light fixture quite often and Ingo just gives up trying to tell off the ghost type. He knows it'll stop when it gets hungry or wants his attention. People scream when the nice chandelier cries out and runs after the Subway Boss.

Archeops can be put to sleep by covering them with a blanket. They also like to sing a lot. Commuters will flinch when Emmet walks by with an out of tune song echoing the rock type. The younger twin is completely used to it, so the tune was long ignored before they even passed the group.

Haxorus is seen just chilling on the veranda loving the sun on their skin. A cold-blooded creature naturally wants warmth. They will wrap themselves around the brothers trying to steal their precious mammalian warmth. Ingo flinches from the sudden icy contact, but Emmet just coos about the poor baby must be cold. They are.

Crustle steals Durant's dirt pool and causes fights. Another dirt pool is obtained for the crustacean-like insect, but they still brawl over the original. Crustle also tries to bark like a Herdier whenever a new person enters the apartment. It's hilarious and Elesa totally recorded it with a caption like "what a strange dog🤔🤔😂😂". Emmet reposts it quite often while Ingo is weirded out people think Crustle's behaviour is odd. Don't all of them do that?

The ditto emmet and zoroark ingo au is so great! It makes me wonder how do they sleep? Does ingo make something akin to a den and all the pokemon snuggle together? Do they sleep seperatly? Personally i like the mental image of emmet and ingo surrounded by a blanket fort as a den and all their pokemon snuggling around or with them ( some of them are too big)

Also it would be funny if the person they imitated was Drayden (like a younger version of him) and hes trying to constantly prove these two are pokemon but no one believes him. But who would you think try and expose them or is everyone alright with them?

Sorry for rambling, this au just gives me so many wholesome ideas.

Do not apologise!! I am happy to give you ideas, and I also love rambling about my own!!! It is a win-win.

For the first part;

Only on bad nights. Typically, they sleep separately- as much as they love each other, everyone needs privacy sometimes, you know? They let their Pokemon do what they want for the most part. They have proper beds which they sleep in sometimes, but they’re mostly there because, well, a regular human might come over and go “where the hell do you two sleep? There’s no beds here!” And while they typically remain in pokemon form at home, sometimes they just stay human. It takes some effort on their part, hence why they don’t do it often, but sometimes they just. Do.

They probably have their own little nests made according to what they find comfortable, though! Can easily pass it off as being “for their Pokemon” (which isn’t entirely incorrect- their Pokemon sleep there too sometimes). I think Ingo’s would just have a lot of fluffy, softer materials (he often wakes up with a truly impressive bed head), while Emmett prefers smoother fabrics and stuff. Like just… pillowcases. Sometimes he sleeps in/on his cap. Usually, though, he spends the night absolutely surrounded by Joltiks- so when he transforms into a shape with fur/hair it’s usually just. Standing up because of static electricity. Ingo thinks this is hilarious!

And for sleeping in a blanket fort… it happens. Not super often, but it does happen. Usually following a really bad day for either/both of them. For example; If one of them is almost, almost found out- the thought scares them. It’s terrifying, you know, to be just a hair away from losing the whole life you’ve built for yourselves! They like their lives, thank you very much. Those moments often end up being really tense days where they have to utilise the panic room, and once they get home they binge their favourite movies and reassure each other. Probably buy loads of their favourite snacks for emergencies like these. (Once Elesa starts catching on, it becomes a much more regular experience. Tensions are high.)

But sometimes they do it because they’ve had a good day! Or anniversaries, celebrations, all kinds of things. They don’t really celebrate a birthday- don’t even remember when that would be- so instead they celebrate some important day in their lives. Like perhaps the day they opened the battle subway! And before that- the day they got their house, maybe.

As for the second part… that’s a really fun idea (although I’m not 100% on making it “Canon”)!! Perhaps they just saw a picture of him when he was younger, took the form, and as the years went on they relied less upon the picture and more upon each other (which lead to… some distortion of features. Copy of a copy, and all that!)

And bada bing bada boom- Drayden’s made himself a bit of a reputation for being a “conspiracy theorist” of some kind.

Both twins are both amused and anxious about this! They try their hardest to avoid him.

thinking about skyla going to elesa's gym for a fashion show or whatever and she gets there super early bc it's what she always does to spend more time with her best friend

and she gets there when elesa's doing a sound check, and true to elesa's dorky fashion she's got her personal music on shuffle moving about the catwalk with her pokemon, completely oblivious to the fact that skyla is there.

Cheerleader had just come over the speakers and she's singing to and dancing with her zebstrika (who is also being extra dorky with her making lots of tippy-taps/clippty clops) and instead of "cheerleader" she's saying"gym leader" and it's so fucking dorky but SO ELESA all the same and it's in that moment that skyla realizes she's absolutely in love with her best friend

"Mama loves you too, she thinks I made the right selection now all that's left for me to do it pop the quest--BITCH HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN STANDING THERE?" and skyla just busts out laughing, singing back to her swept up in the humor of it all, saying "gym leader" as well

and after her initial embarrassment (unaided by zebstrika finding it hilarious as well) they have a good laugh over it, and it's definitely not the last time skyla sneaks over early just to watch her best friend be a huge goof on the stage

RPC Positivity Week!

Hi Everyone! I’ve decided I’ll be partaking in this two week RPC Positivity event! I’m going to be very loose with how I decide who or what I list on these events, and even the formatting will be touch and go (I’ve got fave 3’s, fave 5’s, fave 7’s and so on). I’ve planned this out so that, hopefully, nearly everyone I follow will be listed on at least one of these days. Due to my very small pool of people that I choose to follow a few will be repeated. Forgive me if I don’t mention you. Believe me, no matter what, every single person I follow on this website, I absolutely treasure. If I forget you, it’s because I’ve pre-written most of these entries late at night! Please don’t take it for a lack of appreciation! All of these are listed in no particular order, and may not even be the top X of my favourites. I’m essentially just having fun and shouting out people I love here!

Now, with all that all out of the way, let’s begin!

Day One: Favourite Portrayals of a Character in a Fandom

@nimbasah (Elesa): A wonderful vision of Elesa, true to her portrayal in the games, fleshed out with a combination of creative vision for the pokemon world and real world adaptations of the real world modeling industry on which one of her professions is built! You’ll see everything from her being a complete sweetheart to those kind and generous, to her absolutely wrecking paparazzi with the best of clever words. On top of that: Puns.

@tenderpoison (Plumeria): A brilliant take on our favourite big skull sister, with a plethora of verses that have different variations to choose from, this Plumeria is much deeper than anyone might be able to dig and see. With a world built lovingly by her mun around her, Plumeria is a rich character tied to the setting itself, with all the potential for all the great genres of drama: Tragedy, Comedy, and Shitpost.

@maythehoennsapphire (May): One doesn’t often think about the trauma that the protagonists go through in the pokemon games due to their stoic, unspeaking nature in the games. This May destroys that expectation with how she’s developed here. With full-fledged fears, phobias and other mental maladies that plague her, May is a character that refuses to be defined by them, but still allows them to help shape her character. The mun here has crafted a well-rounded character that takes from the best of every May, and added some of her own twists to the recipe that make her truly unique and wonderful.

@sterlingsilverchampion (Steven Stone): Do you want a high key dramatic Steven Stone who offers hilarious commentary on everything that comes across their dash? Then look no further than this blog! This Steven Stone is one that hits that funny bone for nearly every occasion, with sobering doses of good action and drama now and again to mix things up. With great character in both their portrayal of Steven and his pokemon (watch out for Archeops), you’ll be hard pressed to find a more entertaining blog in this community!

@mezasepkmnmaster (Ash Ketchum): There’s many interpretations of Ash Ketchum out there, but few have their own fic built around them, and many of them don’t take the development of Ash Ketchum to levels that this one achieves! We all want Ash to grow up, because really: He isn’t ten years old anymore and we all know it. This Ash takes the one we all know and love, and add to him everything that we’ve seen in canon, and then more. Some of it is painful, but most of it serves to help Ash grow into the man who really does strive to be a great and kind pokemon trainer, and still reaches towards that ever present goal of being a pokemon master.

@blastingxff (Jessie): This Jessie, unlike the one we’ve come to know in some of the later versions of her character in canon, is hardly a one-dimensional character. She is a tragic, deep, and emotional character who’s undergoing a journey of growth and recovery from a life that, if you look at it realistically as compared to the cartoonish portrayal of it, is actually quite harsh. From the loss of her mother, to her rough and tumble life growing up, to her time in Team Rocket, this Jessie is every bit the hardened fighter we see on the show, but at the same time, with a soft center that she works hard to protect from the sharp edges of the world. If you want to see a character like this melted to reveal that emotional core, look no further than this magnificently portrayed Jessie.

@diamonddandruff (Dawn): Dawn was already a beloved character who had a great set of growth arcs in the anime. But what if you take that further. What if you counterbalance her coordinating and her poke-styling, and add some creative innovation on top of it, paralleling game mechanics and attributes alongside anime-centric concepts. You’ll find yourself here, with this Dawn: A brilliant mesh of the best of the multiple sources pokemon has to offer, and character development that extends far into the future with a progression that feels incredibly natural and realistic while keeping in touch with the character’s origins. Brilliant dialogue, informed decisions based on the character history and story, and writing that takes unexpected turns on traditional tropes in the same way an action movie driver squeals their tires to turn into opposing traffic, you’ll find a lot to love about this character and this blog!
