"Soaring Into Space
In addition to Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo, the U.S. is working on two other manned aerospace programs. The first is using the X-15, a piloted research vehicle, which flies as high as 50 miles above the Earth and at about 4,000 miles an hour, It is powered by a rocket engine but has wings and a tail, and can be controlled like an airplane. While the X-15 does not actually operate in space, vehicles similar to it will.
The other program is based on Project Dyna Soar. Dyna Soar will be launched like a missile, orbit the earth as a controlled satellite, and return through the atmosphere like an airplane. It is so named because it is expected that in the sky it will achieve boost-glide flight - also known as dynamic soaring. In space, the Dyna Soar pilot will be able to use rocket power to maneuver left or right thousands of miles in any flight path.
In the artist's concept of the craft, the pilot of the Dyna Soar discards the no-longer need cockpit heat shield in order to land."

Alternate History
Dyna-Soar soars into orbit!
On February 20, 1962, Dyna-Soar 3, piloted by US Air Force Astronaut Jim Wood, achieves orbit, making him the first American to orbit the Earth. The space vehicle stays in orbit for four hours, before descending and safely landing at Edwards Air Force Base.
This monumental achievement by the US Air Force encourages the Kennedy Administration of the Air Force's ability to lead the US space program. Because of this further funding for US Air Force space projects are given, paving the way for the US military's increased presence in space.

Carruthers - DYNA-SOAR
"... Not sure where the name "Carruthers" comes from, but they're the faceless builder that's associated with the infamous Dyna-Soar fuzz (from the early 80s). Most notably used by @kimletgordon , the original Dyna-Soar is a super heavy, sludgy Big Muff clone of sorts. The "Lite" version, which I've had for over a decade, is essentially the same circuit but with a strange configuration of the transistors that make it sound more like a chunky overdrive than a fuzz. Interestingly enough, the one I have was modded by the previous owner back into its original Muffy glory! So I had been waiting and searching for nearly 13 years to find an actual Dyna-Soar to compare it to, and finally last week I nabbed one. 😎 Both are pretty intense with the amount of gain that's available. The only other Muff style pedal that comes close would be the Maxon OD-801. The modded "Lite" I have is oddly articulate, even at the highest gain setting, but still punishing. While the regular Dyna-Soar has a mountain of low-end that can dooooooom for eons..."

No matter what Tucker Carlson* told Joe Rogan, everything can be explained as advanced technology and black projects and can find its roots in post WW2 Germany.
*is Tucker playing a role again, this time for the disclosure narrative?

December 10, 1962: The US Air Force cancels its X-20 Dyna Soar program
The X-20 Dyna Soar was a reusable manned spaceplane developed for reconnaissance, space rescue, and satellite interception and maintenance. Its reusability and ability to be launched on different boosters made it more advanced than other spacecraft of the time, such as the American Mercury and Soviet Vostok capsules. It is best remembered as the predecessor to spaceplanes of the the current and most previous generation, such as the Space Shuttle Orbiter and Sierra Nevada Dream Chaser.

How old are you?
About a month younger than Star Wars, 46 if you don't feel like doing the math on that one.
The tags on the post where I was musing about the Dyna Soar finally got you curious enough to ask then I'm guessing.
Magazine I had a subscription to had done a write up on it, but the whole magazine was geared towards people Jr High or younger, which I was in that range, so not a huge amount of technical info and what not there but I absorbed every word about the thing and could never find any more info even at the local library.
Took a fair while before much was even on the net, but there's lots now. Not sure why that one interests me so much. Not a whole lot sticks in my head for some reason, but I'm ok with that since then I get to read about it again.
Big fan of the Voyager probes too, but that's because we're the same age, and they're rad. Don't think the folks that designed them knew what they'd managed to build and I hope some of them are still around to see it.
Love your blog btw, best aerospace and aviation blog I've encountered on here, great pics, great information, and it's not redundant just top notch through and through.
Sorry about rambling adhd does that to me sometimes, tried to make it short lol.

Pics:
1. The official United¹ journal published stories, poems, articles, etc written by their members.
The cover's from 1915, when Lovecraft was vice-prez of the UAPA.¹
2. Still on the trail of the mysterious article writer (W.E. Griffin)² that HPL just had to write a poem about...
The pic's from an article about the Circleville Mystery Writer,³ who terrorized so many folks during the 1970s.
3. "The Fair Penitent" (1703) is a play from where Lothario⁴ got its modern meaning of "notorious womanizer."
But, the play's actually an adaptation of 1632's "The Fatal Dowry" by Nathan Field & Philip Massinger.
4. Bullfinch's Age of Fable was 1 of Howard's earliest read books - along with 1,000 & 1 Nights, Rime of the Ancient Mariner & Metamorphosis.⁵
5. Don Wollheim, was an American editor, publisher, writer, critic & fan.
Among his works are: Edge of Time, Secret of Saturn's Rings, Mike Mars Flies the Dyna-Soar, Universe Makers & A Year Among the Girls - about his crossdressing experiences.
6. Basilisk⁶/Demon design published in a journal of the Fantasy Amateur Press Association.
7. An interesting looking Don Wollheim short story collection.
I'm just a sucker for weird facts, strange tales & other such stuff.
8. A wonderfully fantastic AI(?) work that truly captures the funny insanity which runs thruout Don Quixote.⁷
9. A Don Quixote edition - with wood- cuts by the great Gustave Gore!⁸
Truly a treasure.
10. Mike Myers's 2nd Austin Powers film, where his mojo⁹ is so cruelly stolen - & used!!
1914: Output.
Intro: Lovecraft's short & satirical response to W.E. Griffin's UAPA article on seduction.¹⁰
This is 1 of HPL's works on amateur affairs, criticism & writing.
Work: Another early effort that shows Howard's limitations in writing poesy. Though things start out well enough.
"By a strange spell,¹⁰ upon... virgin heart(s), Lothario (Griffin) plies his art."
This is followed up with a long section about a man who's a nymphomaniac - among other things (such as a stalker, creep, etc).
"The dozen faces, he see(s) daily, Red with the blush of... modesty:¹⁰ No scruples... restrain his zeal."
"Each hour he strives... new conquests to attain; Yet, on(c)e attained, for more he burns."
"(He) surveys the fields... return(ing) to the chase. To his... lips the willing (&) fair,¹¹ Offer their own... eternal love oath."¹²
Suddenly, the whole experience is over & we're left with questions & a small mystery...
"From what cause ha(s) all his magic grown?⁹ Easy to find (out): He's kissed the __?"¹³
