Been a fan of Death in Paradise for a while, but only really just beginning to dip my toe into the fandom. Was wondering what the general opinion was on the books?

My opinion, they are a good addition to the series, and nice to see a little more of the original team, but some of the characterizations seem a little off. The murders are first-rate, and it seems odd to be saying this as they're all written by Robert Thorogood who created the TV series, but it seems like there's a lot more tension between the team in the books that in the show.

Take Richard and Camille, in the show, while they often disagree, it always made plain that underneath it all they like, perhaps more than like, each other. But in the books, reading Richard's internal monologue, it often seems like, though he respects her as a detective and colleague, Richard actively dislikes Camille as a person. I guess so much of what we perceive as their relationship comes from the chemistry between the actors, which is of course lost in the written word.

For all, that the books to include my favourite exchange in the entire series, in which Richard asks the team how they'd go about killing him, and slowly becomes more and more horrified by Dwayne's detailed response.

Anyway, enough of my rambling, what do you folks think?

I cannot believe everything that happened in tonight's Death in Paradise episode. This was the most hectic episode of the entire series I have EVER seen and that is REALLY saying something. Just a week after Marlon's exit, so much has happened in 1 night....

• Officer Dwayne Myers is BACK! And it's clear he and Darlene aren't too happy to see each other again. (Looks like it wasn't a great break up.) Not to mention the question remains, is he here to stay or is it only temporary?

• After breaking things off with his ex for good, Neville has announced he will be leaving Saint Marie to put the past and ghosts behind him and finally put himself out there to find true love.

• And last but not least, Florance is coming back to Saint Marie YET AGAIN and this time, it seems she may finally reciprocate Neville's feelings after all this time!!!

Like I said. Most Hectic Episode EVER! It was just one surprise after the next.

no but the scene in TNG where Jimmy is talking about being shot and he says something along the lines of “Do you know what it’s like waking up every day thinking you can walk and then remembering you will never walk again? Sometimes I just wish he had better aim. Finish the job.” always makes me think of the scene where Dwayne is talking to Joey and he says. “Sometimes I dream I don’t have it (‘it’ being HIV) and then I wake up and I do. I want to kill myself.” Yeah, TNG reuses old plotlines but sometimes it shows up in really cool parallels.
