If you enjoyed Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, I’d like to suggest The Deep by Rivers Solomon. Inspired by .clipping’s song ‘The Deep’, which in turn was inspired by ‘Journey of the Deep Sea’ by Drexciya, it’s a powerful narrative set around the question: What if the children of captured African pregnant people survived being thrown into the water?
The concept held within the main civilization in the book is roughly the same: Just like Talokan, the Wajinru are a aquatic civilization built because of and in spite of colonists. And just like Wakanda, they tried for so long to ignore the problems of their kin in order to protect themselves and their natural resources, but in the end intervene.
