What do you think of the coronation being really scaled down? Invites have gone out and apparently it’s morning dress code so like.. what they would wear to an Easter service apparently.
I know they gotta read the room about cost of living and all that.. so we’re probably not going to see any tiaras or nice evening wear.
I think it just means that the palace doesn't know what they're doing. Since last year we have been getting conflicting reports on the coronation. First, we were told about how Charles is so aware of the cost of living crisis and wanted things to be scaled back. Later, when it was long enough for the public to forget about the scaled-back coronation narrative, it was reported that Charles was aware of the historical and cultural importance of his coronation and wanted "pomp and splendor" to reflect that. This contradicting narrative has been walked back and forth for months now.
A few days ago it was reported that Catherine (maybe) won't wear a tiara to the coronation. This was a story that I think is in response to several factors, one of them being Camilla's eye-catching tiara moment in Germany. Call me crazy, but I think it's incredibly suspect that Kate is suddenly too humble for a tiara the day after Camilla stole the show with her diamond-incrusted appearance at Bellevue Palace. I also, think singling out Kate was a great way to distract from Biden not attending the coronation, Kate's name gets clicks, and now when you search for news about the coronation you're getting stories about what Kate will be wearing instead of news about President of the United States skipping the big day.
It is from the story about Kate where the morning dress rumors come from, with PEOPLE stating:
Should Kate, along with other senior female members of the family forgo a tiara, then presumably long gowns are out of the question too, resulting in a radically different dress code to what might have been expected, with heirloom tiaras potentially replaced with hats or fascinators.
There has been no official word on the dress code for the coronation and, I'm going to be honest, swapping tiaras for hats or military uniforms for morning suits means next to nothing about the scale of the coronation. Obviously, there's a connection in our minds that tiaras and floor-length gowns are more formal and reserved for fancy events. While that's typically true, it doesn't mean that they're inexpensive. Kate's coatdresses can cost upwards of $5,000, plus the hat, and whatever jewelry she's wearing. Some of Kate's day ensembles are over 25,000 dollars. Queen Elizabeth II's 2022 Jubilee weekend cost the British public millions, and not a single tiara was worn. At any rate, if the royals don't go for tiaras the event would be less formal, but that doesn't mean that they're suddenly conscious of their spending and want the coronation to be inexpensive. As usual, it's all about what aesthetic is more PR friendly instead of making any meaningful changes.
However, I'm not sure what the dress code will look like and I am hoping for something more formal. I think it's interesting that they want to have an ongoing discussion about tiaras, but aren't having the same conversation about the Gold State Coach which, despite misleading headlines about its role being reduced, will be used to transport Charles and Camilla back to Buckingham Palace following the service at Westminister Abbey. Yes, they will be riding around in a four-ton golden carriage (which is infamously a pain to transport) covered in imagery that glorifies British imperialism while Camilla is set to wear pieces of the Cullinan Diamond, the largest diamond ever mined. But tiaras are the problem. Sure.

Further details about the Coronation were released by Buckingham Palace this weekend.
Their Majesties will travel from Buckingham Palace in The King’s Procession to Westminster Abbey in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach, drawn by six Windsor Greys and will be accompanied by The Sovereign’s Escort of the Household Cavalry.
The King's Procession will depart Buckingham Palace through the Centre Gate, and proceed down The Mall, passing through Admiralty Arch and south of King Charles I Island (the roundabout by Trafalgar Square), down Whitehall and Parliament Street. It will proceed along the south side of Parliament Square to the Sanctuary of Westminster Abbey, where the Coronation service will commence at 11 o'clock.
The Coronation Procession after the service will be more elaborate. The King and Queen will return to Buckingham Palace in the Gold State Coach drawn by eight Windsor Greys via the same 1.3 mile route.

“As an Australian, knowing the growing discontent and dislike in my home country in regards to the BRF, I’m unsure how it could be deemed ‘appropriate’ for them to use the Diamond Jubilee Coach which was gifted to the late Queen by the Australian Government. Was it a political move or was it done solely because ‘our’ coach is newer, has historical ties to almost every aspect of English/Colonial history (you can google what the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee State Coach actually has historically), or was it done to appease the smaller mass of Constitutional Monarchists who cling to the idea that the Crown will solve all their issues?” - Submitted by Anonymous

“King Charles gives Princess Anne prestigious role as thank you for unwavering loyalty”
The King has handed Princess Anne a key role in his first State Opening of Parliament speech as monarch.
In honour of her years of unwavering loyalty the Princess Royal will feature in the procession as the prestigious "Gold-Stick-in-Waiting", a position historically handed to a person entrusted with the personal safety of the monarch. Anne acted out the role for the King's coronation back in May, riding on horseback as the monarch's personal bodyguard. She will travel in a carriage behind the King and Queen, as the procession on Tuesday makes its way to the Houses of Parliament for the historic delivery.
Despite accompanying the late Queen to several State Openings in her youth, Anne will enter the chamber alongside the monarch for the first time since 1985. The State Opening of Parliament marks the formal start of the parliamentary year while the Monarch's Speech sets out the government's agenda for the coming session.
The King has no role in setting the legislative agenda but reads out the list on behalf of the Prime Minister and the Government. A royal source said: "This is a fantastic addition by the King and further cements the Princess Royal's role as his most trusted lieutenant."
After Charles ascended the throne, he handed both Princess Anne, 73, and his brother Prince Edward, 59, new responsibilities by making. The Princess Royal and Duke of Edinburgh officially became Counsellors of State, allowing them to carry out constitutional duties for the King if he was abroad or unwell. The Mirror can further reveal that Charles and Camilla will travel to Westminster in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach, the same stunning vehicle that carried the couple to the King's coronation at Westminster Abbey.
The King will for the first time since the historic event in May, wear the Imperial State Crown and dress in the Robe of State, as is tradition for the monarch. Charles exchanged the St Edward's Crown for the Imperial State Crown at the end of the Coronation service, seen by thousands who lined the streets of London and millions watching around the world as the procession made its way back to Buckingham Palace.
Weighing a hefty 2.3lbs (1.06kg), the staggering piece sparkles with nearly 3,000 stones, including 2,868 diamonds, 273 pearls, 17 sapphires, 11 emeralds, and five rubies. Made for the Coronation of King George Vl in 1937, jewellery experts have estimated it to be worth between £3 billion and £5 billion. The stunning
317-carat Cullinan I - the diamond at the centre of the piece - is alone estimated to be worth £400 million. It was worn by the late Queen Elizabeth Il at her coronation in 1953, and on many official occasions over the course of her historic reign.
However, it became too heavy for the ageing monarch, who died aged 96 in September 2022, and for every State Opening of Parliament thereafter, it was placed on a velvet pillow next to Her Majesty. In a nod to the late Queen, Camilla will wear Elizabeth Il's diamond diadem for the first time at Parliament State Opening.
The late Queen wore the £6million crown for her coronation in 1953 and all State Openings. It was made in 1821 and is set with 1,333 diamonds in silver and gold. The Queen was seen wearing it on coins, notes and stamps.

Details on the Coronation Procession
On the morning of the 6th May, Their Majesties will travel from Buckingham Palace in The King’s Procession to Westminster Abbey in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach. Created for Queen Elizabeth II to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Her late Majesty’s reign in 2012, the coach has only ever conveyed the Sovereign, occasionally accompanied by the consort or a visiting Head of State.
Tumblr media
The gilded crown on the top of the Diamond Jubilee State Coach was carved from oak from HMS Victory, and the coach’s interior is inlaid with samples of woods, metals and other materials from buildings and places with specific connections to Britain and its history; Royal Residences including Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace, Windsor Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse; cathedrals including St Paul’s and Westminster Abbey; and historic ships, such as the Mary Rose. The coach will be drawn by six Windsor Greys.
The King’s Procession, accompanied by The Sovereign’s Escort of the Household Cavalry, will depart Buckingham Palace through the Centre Gate, and proceed down The Mall, passing through Admiralty Arch and south of King Charles I Island, down Whitehall and along Parliament Street. The King’s Procession will travel around the east and south sides of Parliament Square to Broad Sanctuary to arrive at the Sanctuary of Westminster Abbey, where the Coronation Service will begin at 11 o’clock.
Tumblr media
The procession from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace, The Coronation Procession, will be much larger in scale, taking the same route in reverse. The Coronation Procession will include Armed Forces from across the Commonwealth and the British Overseas Territories, and all Services of the Armed Forces of the United Kingdom, alongside The Sovereign’s Bodyguard and Royal Watermen.
Tumblr media
Their Majesties will travel in the Gold State Coach. The coach, last seen during the Pageant of the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II in June 2022, was commissioned in 1760 and was first used by King George III, to travel to the State Opening of Parliament in 1762. The coach has been used at every Coronation since that of William IV in 1831. The coach will be drawn by eight Windsor Greys and, due to its weight of four tonnes, will travel at walking pace.
Tumblr media
Upon returning to Buckingham Palace following the Coronation Service, Their Majesties will receive a Royal Salute from the United Kingdom and Commonwealth Armed Forces who have been on parade that day. The Royal Salute will be followed by three cheers from the assembled service personnel, as a tribute from the Armed Forces on parade to The King and The Queen Consort on the day of Their Majesties’ Coronation.
