I want to thank everyone for their patience on just about everything, whether it be art or rp replies. I've started a new treatment about 3 weeks ago and the side effects are insane. I am doing my best, but until I get adjusted, which might take a bit since its a progressive dosage kind of med, I will be on reduced activity notice.
Not that im super active to begin with but consider this a warning <3 Thank you for understanding! I promise I'm not ignoring everyone, I'm just nerfed as heck right now.

there is something interesting to me about how... y'know, if an apocalypse happens and you need a particular medication to survive, you're probably fucked. and looking at that while watching something like fallout, to then see that same difficulty represented in the ghouls needing a steady supply of their own medicine to remain themselves? it's a neat metaphor i guess. disabilities still exist in the wasteland, they're just completely different now.
#fallout tag#it's not ideal obviously if you're looking at it in terms of actual representation (beyond ppl losing a limb and so on)#like it would actually be cool to see a diabetic for example figure out a way to manufacture insulin despite the apocalypse#and how they still survive while everything is so different and their treatments need to be different now too#how do those necessary differences then cause further physical issues#what's the monopoly like on that drug etc#you could easily do this with real disabilities !#BUT. at least with fallout's kinda apocalypse i imagine it would be more difficult for people to have#1) survived at all and 2) adapted as quickly as would have been necessary#so i think there's more potential in terms of... maybe someone born into an apocalypse while disabled#and having enough time to figure that out as it progresses as they age or maybe they're lucky and they have scientist parents#and they come up with their own ways to make it work#i get why we maybe see less of all that though#and instead opt for a more Interesting version that may not even have been intended as a disability metaphor and more just#a plot relevant way to add conflict or weaknesses to exploit#i just.. .cant NOT think about this every time the ghoul uses a fucking inhaler / drug cocktails to stay alive

#maybe im just biomedicine pilled but please god get a grip#before about eighty years ago every single person with type one diabetes died#they just died as children or adolescents or sometimes young adults#there was nothing you could do except watch your child die a slow and painful death#waste away into nothing#dead certain that like the richest thirteenth century noblewoman or whatever would give up all her wealth and luxury#to live in a world where smallpox had been eradicated and she didn't have to fear for her childrens lives#kim wexler voice picture it... REALLY picture it#a world without vaccines sanitation anesthetics antibiotics antivirals blood transfusions#chemotherapy immunotherapy radiation treatment x rays CT scans MRIS#without a basic knowledge of how diseases are spread and where they come from without antimalarias and antihelminthics#without any sort of meaningful medical testing without surgeries or anything like the ability to medically transition it#you literally cannot imagine it#and of course the fact that our medical advancements aren't available to everyone across the world because of capitalism is horrific#it is nothing if not a crime against humanity#but that problem won't be solved by pretending cornelia mother of the gracchi wouldn't have chosen to live#in a world where 9 of her 12 children didn't die if she could#9 out of 12 children. god. really picture it. can you?#i can't and i am thankful for that

can I ask non-americans not to do this please? a majority of u.s. citizens support a single payer/nationalized health care system and yet our representatives keep screwing us over and the insurance companies keep getting worse, demanding more money for less coverage and nothing is done. meanwhile people are dying without access to life saving meds, treatment and surgeries and ffs United health group is using a goddamn ai to approve or deny claims so how do you think that's going
you can criticize us for refusing to learn another language and insisting English is the best. you can criticize us for clinging to guns like a security blanket because our gun culture is fucked to hell. you can definitely criticize us for whining about our propaganda-drenched schooling never teaching us things that are obvious to the rest of the world while we have the Internet at our fingertips to find out we were taught wrong.
but maybe don't make fun of us for being crushed and killed by an evil system designed to juice as much cash out of our sickened bodies as possible? just a thought, for people who are interested in practicing compassion.
