Study of a Woman
by the Nuremberg Master, circa 1480
Pen and brown ink. Approximately 5.25 x 4 inches
-
In this drawing, there are obvious Schongauer influences.  We find, however, in the woman’s expression much of the harshness seen in portraits by Michael Wolgemut, as may be proved by a comparison with the latter’s Portrait of Ursula Hans Tucher (1478).
There would thus be grounds for considering Durer’s master to be the author of this impressive drawing.

Melchoir Lechter (1865-1937), 'Blaue Blume Einsamkeit' (Blue Flower of Loneliness), ''Deutsche Kunst und Dekoration'', 1897-98 Source
Tumblr media
"Widely published in the German press between 1897 and 1905, this wonderful painting disappeared from public view for more than 115 years after its purchase directly from the artist by the Swiss banker Julius Landmann (1877-1931). In 2020, the painting resurfaced at auction in Zurich where it was acquired by The Daulton Collection." .... "In German literature, the blue flower is associated with the fragmentary novel Heinrich von Ofterdingen by the leading Romantic author Novalis (1722-1801), published posthumously in 1802. And the blue flower became an important motif in 19th century Romanticism, representing a longing (Sehnsucht) for things transcendent." (Source)

GANG ART
Früher
gab es Menschen,
die meine Art zu gehen
umerziehen wollten.
So sollte ich beim Laufen
die Kinderfüße auswärts richten,
nicht nach innen, da ich sonst
über sie stolpern würde.
Das verstörte mich zutiefst
und hat mir eine Neigung zu
Sehnenschmerzen eingebracht.
Heute
hab ich mir die Kunst des Gehens,
wie sie mir von Gott
gegeben wurde, wieder antrainiert,
die Füße introvertiert
wie mein Seelenleben,
lieber stolpern, stürzen,
wieder aufstehen und
weiter laufen
als mich ganz egal wozu
für andere verbiegen.

So today I learned that in (Swiss) German, crane flies are called "Schnok" and nearly pissed myself laughing
I did not know that it was a crane fly, I just heard my boyfriend, horrified, say that an awful bug had appeared and he said he didn't know what it was in English and I said what is it in Swiss German and he said, in the most horrified voice ever, "A Schnok"
And if that's not the funniest fucking thing you could call a bug, I don't know what is

frangenheimstraße // köln lindenthal
art in architecture in the form of rough mosaics with natural elements on the balconies give this house in lindenthal something extraordinary. however, the mosaics should be professionally restored as soon as possible, as individual stones are already missing.

Zwinger Palace Dresden, Germany I was in Dresden only a few hours before I left to Prague, I spent most of it about the Zwinger. Completed in 1728, it's absolutely huge, elegant, and breathtaking, and I could see why it took 18 years to complete.
